Ken 'Okarun' Takakura Summary: It had been a long time since Takakura had made anything akin to a wishlist. You sit down with him, however, to make one together.

Ken Takakura hadn't made a wishlist since he was 9. When he had discovered that Santa Claus wasn't actually real, and it was just his parents putting the presents under his tree, Takakura had been devastated. It had made him become slightly jaded by the holiday, and so every year since then, Takakura made it a point to avoid doing anything Christmas-like.

Call him petty, but Takakura was truly betrayed.

That's how he began to become obsessed with the supernatural; researching anything about aliens and UFO's and things that go bump in the night. Coincidently, it was also how he met you.

You were just as obsessed about aliens and UFO's like he was; and when you had sat with him in the library, gushing about his alien book that he was reading; it was the start of something great, at least to him.

It wasn't easy for Ken to make friends, and you were his very first one he'd ever had. To say that Ken Takakura adored you would be an understatement.

Then, he met Momo Ayase, and everything changed. He got his penis and balls stolen, got cursed, got his penis back, then one of his balls back, and it was a whole ordeal that he tried desperately to keep you away from.

But you were always such a caring person, and though Takakura tried to protect you, you still got involved when Takakura suddenly wasn't around as much. Strangely enough, you had taken the news of his newfound power very well.

Nothing had changed despite this new development, but Takakura was thankful for that. In a way, you made him feel normal again. That was why on a Saturday afternoon, the two of you were huddled up in your room; Christmas-themed arts and crafts strewn around the room.

Glitter and marker ink stained your fingers, and Takakura was sitting at the desk, watching you as you made a popsicle-stick version of a gingerbread house. A pen was between his fingers, an empty sheet of paper in front of him; decorated with little reindeer and presents but otherwise blank besides the title you had made for him.

"You haven't made a christmas wishlist since you were 9?"

You didn't look at him, your face morphing into an expression of concentration as you carefully glued the popsicle sticks together; precise with your movements and placements.

"No. Ever since I found out Santa Claus wasn't real, I just never really had a good feeling about Christmas."

You pouted, glancing over at him and making his back tense slightly as you sighed.

"Aw, that's so sad though. You should still do one, you know? Even if Santa Claus isn't real, it'll still be a good way to figure out what you truly want for Christmas."

You did have a good point there, he supposed. Glancing back down at the paper, Ken Takakura was then stuck with a dilemma that he hadn't had to deal with for years.

What was it that he actually wanted for Christmas?

Sparing a glance at you, you had gone back to making your gingerbread house, the room filled with christmas music and the subtle sound of the two of you breathing, and Takakura could feel a blush begin to crawl up his neck as an idea struck him.

Carefully, his pen moved across the paper, and he began to write.

Takakura swallowed thickly before he carefully, but quickly, but his list into the red envelope you had put onto the desk for him once he was done and sat back in his chair. You glanced up at him, raising a brow.

"Are you already done?"

"Yep."

You made a face at him, rolling your eyes and huffing.

"You better not have just left it blank."

"I didn't, I swear!"

He couldn't keep himself from blushing, clutching the wishlist close, and you shook your head at him, sighing and raising your hands in mock-surrender with a smile.

"Alright, alright, I'm just teasing you is all. Let's go put the envelope into the mailbox."

Takakura nodded, and the two of you stood up, brushing your clothes off, and you grabbed another red envelope from your bag. Takakura looked intrigued, asking as he adjusted his glasses and leaned down a bit.

"Is that your wishlist too?"

You smiled brightly, nodding to him and brushing it clean of any glitter, dust, or debris that had gotten onto it since the time of you making it until now.

"Yep. I got it done right around the beginning of December!"

Takakura hummed, asking you.

"What did you wish for?"

Your smile became soft and gentle, and you looked down at the envelope when the two of you made it to the mailbox.

Takakura didn't exactly know what that meant, but he didn't care. As long as you were happy and kept smiling like that, Takakura could live blissfully ignorant for the rest of his life. Placing his envelope into the mailbox alongside yours, he became shy, adjusting his glasses and voice shaky.

"Hey, would you...maybe...um, want to...get some hot chocolate and watch the new Cryptid show that came out? They're airing the first episode in a little bit."

Your eyes sparkled with excitement, and you nodded, grabbing his hand and making the man damn-near combust as you dragged him inside the house again.

"Yes! Yes! I'm so excited for it, I hear the pilot is gonna be on vampires and the Chupacabra!"

Takakura gasped, momentarily forgetting that your hands were still conjoined by the time you two made it into the kitchen where the hot chocolate Christmas kits were waiting.

"No way, really?! I thought it was supposed to be on werewolves?"

"Nah, werewolves are lame!"

"Hey, that's not true!"

there was a bunch of alien themed stuff at target & naturally I put all of it in my cart (a UFO plushie, an alien head rug & an alien head erase board thingie) but then I got sick at the rampant commercialization of my dearest obsession & the 5 dollar cheapo mass produced made in chinese sweatshop material began to viscerally disgust me & I got nauseous then it got worse bc I noticed a suspicious big red stain on the back of the plushie as if it was used to clog a bullet hole or soak up someone's period so I abandoned it all & just stole a candy bar instead but now I'm sad bc I really wanted more UFO/alien decorations for my room...thinking of asking my friend to buy me some more original well made ones off etsy in exchange for the drugs I am sending her

Quick-bite reviews: V/H/S/Beyond (2024) dir. Jay Cheel, Jordan Downey, Virat Patel, Justin Martinez, Christian & Justin Long, Kate Seigel

I finally decided to stop covering this franchise (last year's '/85' remains unwatched) when '/Beyond' had to go ahead and be pitched as an alien-centric V/H/S with a segment written by my horror enemy Mike Flanagan. I've seen a fair chunk of alien horror movies and never have much to say about them because... they're bad... but I'm always rooting for a good one to come into existence. They're like my now-horrible home baseball team; I KNOW the storytelling optics aren't there, it wouldn't be a problem if we could assemble the perfect cast and crew and have infinite time and infinite money. The original V/H/S actually had a memorable piece of alien horror so that's encouraging? It wasn't good but it was memorable! It was there! My feelings on Flanagan only made for extra incentive; if I couldn't have a good alien horror movie at least I could have another alien horror movie to be performatively mad at.

Mike Flanagan has been forgiven; alien horror has made it to first base.

Beyond is still very much a V/H/S movie so was never going to be my thing, but I think it's successful(!) because every segment understands that the job of a V/H/S movie is to feel like a theme park haunted house. The usual buckets of gore and barf and what have you are coordinated this time around, showman-like. The frame story, notoriously the worst part of even the best anthology horror, re-grounds the aliens when segments stray and is a great example of how to lovingly and effectively mock cable-cum-YouTube documentaries. The creature design and bad acting of the first segment are fun enough, while the second segment is a commentary on Mumbai's Film City that feels like homage to and improvement upon the original V/H/S. The third segment goes crazy; UFO attack on a skydiving plane?? and then aliens with interesting designs chase everyone in broad daylight and rip them apart into Halloween decorations??? That's what we've been waiting for! The momentum is building! Then there's Justin Long's abysmal segment. Most unfunny comedy torture-horror I've ever seen, made me think I was going to have to rate this even lower than past panned V/H/Ses, Saw 18 directed by Doug Walker, etc., etc., until, finally, we lose the haunted house angle and Flanagan takes center stage.

His alien story is so good I didn't want to believe it was him writing it, and so painfully UNBEARABLY Stephen King I knew it couldn't be anyone else. Clever sci-fi concept that does my favorite thing in the world by focusing on the UFO itself, eye-rollingly maudlin over American family values, intentionally funny in places, and scary!!! I said 'no way' out loud when I realized how it was going to end; timed just right, not too early but still well before the protagonist. I'm giving Flanagan so much credit because it's the kind of short story I would've been completely enraptured by as a kid, but on film its function is really thanks to director Kate Seigel and near-solo actress Alanah Pearce. They use their medium (infrared camera!) and place in the framework to full advantage, which is why I'm glad it's a little treat within a schlocky horror anthology instead of a short film in its own right.

Buy a ticket? With these V/H/S reviews I always say 'no it's bad don't watch it unless you already like the franchise,' and THIS time... still no lmao. It isn't quite good enough to merit a recommendation, but that's on high highs and low lows rather than the kind of mediocre stickiness of past entries. If you're interested in going through a haunted house (these things continue to hit right at my limit for gore and body horror) to include one gnarly alien story and one interesting one? You could do worse. Not a home run, but first base. They hit the ball <3

Findings from watching the season two opening. Here be spoilers if you haven’t seen it, begone all who seek to avoid those.

Crowley climbs up the rock (and does not look like he enjoys climbing much). Does that mean demons can’t fly? Crowley in particular can’t fly?

There is a moth (butterfly) that starts flying with Crowley and Aziraphale when Crowley lights the match. It’s the first creature that accompanies them. Is it important?

The fuck is this thing. I thought it’s an elephant first? With a trunk? But it’s on fire. Could just be a rock? Whatever it is, the angel with the box (Gabriel?) spawns right behind it. I would say portal to Hell, but angels don’t commonly come out of those. Or do they now? Anyway mysterious fiery thing.

There’s also a bunch of animals in the background of this setting. They seem to be mostly sheep and goats. And there’s huge bones/skeletons. Dinosaurs are fictional in the Good Omens verse, though. (Something about the dinosaurs are a joke thing? Please let it be something about dinosaurs being a joke, I love this bit.)

It’s raining fire and the poor goats and sheep get torched. :( Looking pretty apocalyptic for a season that (maybe) isn’t about the end of the world this time!

There’s the pickled herring from the spoiler/bts pics! And this person looks like Hastur IMO. “Everyday” apparently already died; it’s on a tombstone. What is the person in the back (behind the herring barrel) carrying? A miniature airplane? A rocket launcher? A big camera?

And THEN there’s the lamp with a face and feet guy, walking in front of the person with the headscarf. WTF is with lamp with a face guy. Lamp with a face guy even has a smaller lamp attached to his arm. I do not want to meet lamp with a face on a dark graveyard!

There are some more spooky characters joining the procession as it goes underground. What’s up with red head and a lamp on a stick guy for example?

Lovelovelove Hell with the magma and the giant spider and the office chairs on rocks (some of them upside down). Giant pentagram in the background that seems to be spinning! I loved the basement office hell vibe they used for Hell in S1, but this fiery Hell looks so cool. Creature with bat wings perching on top of a rock! Great vibes, very hellish.

London during the airstrike has a cool blimb, a tank, lots of wreckage, is apparantly a 30 zone, so no speeding, and there’s an ad for Stairway to Heaven. Seems like a play or a movie maybe?

Aziraphale and Crowley with their wings out walk in front of a bus with “wings for victory” written on the side. And then an aircraft throws a bomb on them.

It is raining rabbits in the entryway to the magic show theatre, and there’s person sized and shaped rabbit in the audience. Is it Harry the Rabbit?

Lots of interesting head dresses in the people following after Crowley here, and there’s Beelzebub. They’re being led to meet Aziraphale in his magic uniform, now upgraded with a cape! (He should have worn the cape to Adam’s party, capes are cool.)

Space! Spacespacespace! Look at the planets and stars! Also the tank, it’s still here. And there’s... a rabbit astronaut? With glowing eyes?

Little UFO crossing in front of that moon/planet! Looks a bit like the flying saucer from season 1.

Thy kingdom airways lol! And it’s raining hearts! On Aziraphale and Crowley on the bookshop roof.

“Give me coffee or give me death” is a very metal slogan for a coffee shop. And there’s lots of music themed stuff in the street. There’s a jukebox, a pile of records behind it, that decoration between the street lamps looks like vinyl records cut in half strung up? And the Bentley is there, probably blasting Queen. :D

The skycrapers are elevator shafts. The one in the middle has an angel in it, riding down. Down to Hell? Ding!

It’s the Dirty Donkey! And the movie theatre is called “The Arrival”. It’s screening today! That’s very clever, wonder if the opening will change with the different episode titles? :) Also, there’s the image from the box the angel is carrying again, on the film posters for The Arrival. Can’t tell what it is.

Look at them all walking into the light! They’re going to be enlightened! Or something. But it is a very bright light! Lighthouse! It’s also covered in scrap and  junk nearly to the top. Whatever that may mean. (Guys don't walk into the light, no!)

At last a game about UFO sausage itself. By the way, you are flying at the planet, where these UFO are living. Planet is fantastic. Surface of the planet is pink and green. And it is creating an objects. With a form of spheres, squares and rectangles. It is something like trees or mountains. But, it is something another, its own.

There is a very strong magnetic field at this planet, And strong radio waves. They make a their own structures. Whole oceans. And events at this fantastic planet. It is something like Solaris. Planet ocean. But another way. Magnetic field is very strong here, and it is like some force of nature at this planet and it forms a whole islands, for example. Out of radio waves. And radio waves – can make a whole ocean. Such a fantastic ideas. Of a strange planet. The planet, where UFO sausage is living.

Game itself it is a pseudo three dimensional flight at the UFO sausage. With CGA style colors. About 4 colors. You can turn left and right. To avoid objects. Circles and squares. They are with black color. Background of surface is moving with different speed. More speed higher for background- more intense it has a magnetic field, It is the idea.

Magnetic field can be 1.8 – it is small magnetic field, slow move. And it can be big strong field. It is 0.3 parameter of background. Background moves with most big speed in this game.

And you are flying and avoiding obstacles. This is the idea. To flight a certain distance. As in a learning book about math class. From point A to point B.

Distance is at the right part of the screen. And a the left - it is your energy. Levels are described with a fantastic conditions. Parameters of field, distance. In such fantastiс terms. And even there is – standalone theme of game – it is map of the planet. Pink planet. With white lines. Intense of field. Radio waves. Don’t forget, that there is no else thing at this planet. Two powers are active here, and they form everything. It is radio waves and magnetic field. They are, of course, not like a the planet Earth. And some fantastic.

There are descriptions for these regions of the planet. Total 42 regions. It is 42 episodes. They have 1 or several levels. Maximum it is 4 levels for a region. For more interest they are separated for 8 zones. Zone s are goes about higher and higher intense of magnetic field. You select region. And next - to read description of a region you select. Number of levels. And length of them. And something else. Power of the field.

Game is a retro science fiction theme. Strange, maybe. Regions – there are lots of them. It is a big planet giant. It is rotation somewhere in a depth of space. And from those space, UFO sausages are flying.

Game has some feature. It is main menu. You make a selection of game mode. F1 – normal mode. F2 – extended mode. Mainly, it is similar. But, simply, in extended mode, it is drawn square of a UFO sausage, hitbox, and two lines along the screen. For easier navigation. Just like you inside of UFO turn on some options. And something to indicate at the screen, as additional information.

Videogame, it is fourth, in a game plan TRIA. Final. In this plan. And as I finish it, I will start to prepare 4 new games for publish. Plan TRIA is going to its final.

Program part and overview description

Videogame is written with programming language QB64. It is modern version of QBasic. Game use 4 colors, that do imitation of colors MS DOS CGA. Pseudo three dimensional about way of movement. Something like arcade. Maybe, a game about – just to have a relax. Fly at some distance. Turn left or right. And do not crash into game objects – squares and circles. Game is with science fiction theme. There are texts and description of the planet.

Development state

So, for this time, I pay attention to decoration for the game. I do programming for menus with planet map. And it has lots of text. I create all these Sci Fi theme. With descriptions. And someway decorate the menus. In a pink color. I need to check, that everything works. And, maybe, to make menus more interesting. Maybe, to draw a picture with UFO sausage. And, mainly, - it is everything done!

New Pronoun Buttons (She/They)!

Hey shapeshifters of Tumblr! want to help us with a little market research?

We're revamping our pronoun buttons! Taking some inspiration from our Cryptid Collection, we're going with a horror/supernatural/occult theme. Krista's put together a few ideas and we're thinking of having different designs for each pronoun set. We COULD just pick which pronouns get which design ourselves ...

OR we could do a poll and have you all decide!

Obviously we really want to hear from folks who use the pronouns the buttons are for. But we don't have buttons for every pronoun set and also what are we? Pronoun cops? Gross.

World’s UFO Hotspots?

The map can be found under the UAP Reporting Trends segment of the AARO's new website.

According to the map, Japan's Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the US' eastern and western coasts, and some areas across the Middle East are considered UFO sighting hotspots.

Another specific Japanese UFO hotspot is a tiny linomachi community within the Fukushima Prefecture. In fact, it has even earned the name "UFO Town," as it has been filled with decorations that have an extraterrestrial theme. It also houses the International UFO Lab, which is a research institute that launched in 2021 and that is directed by Takeharu Mikami, an alien enthusiast.

Just this year, the International UFO Lab unveiled six snaps of phenomena that are likely to be UFOs. These were captured in Fukushima and Kobe, among other areas.

Those who typically link UFO sightings with the US can be surprised by how a Middle Eastern region and Japan are part of the world's UFO hotspots.

This Cartoon Network Sweepstakes to Win a Trip to *Roswell, NM* (!!) looms large in my brain, even 23 years later.

See, I grew up near Roswell. Spent a fair bit of time there, either on school basketball and choir trips or working some contract IT work for the city government office. Sure, there's the International UFO Museum, but you can run that thing in, like, an hour? Hour and a half, maybe? There's some alien-themed decorations around town, but most of Roswell looks like this:

So what must this Sweepstakes Trip have been like? You're kid from...somewhere else in the country. It's the tail end of 90's Alien Fever brought on by things like X-Files and various documentaries. You win this contest, and you're *pumped!*

There's no airport in Roswell. Certainly no commercial airport at the time. Which means you're being flown in to...most likely either Albuquerque or Lubbock? If Albuquerque, you're getting a brief glimpse of Pretty Tourism Postcard New Mexico before driving three hours into Flat Oilfield New Mexico. If Lubbock, you get the experience of the jarring transition between Texas, with its large, green farms (thanks to having an outsized percentage of the rights to the aquifer that provides the region with its water) and well-maintained roads, to southern New Mexico, dusty and with noticeably less money and worse roads. Doesn't create a fantastic first impression.

Then you get into town, do your hour in the museum and...then what? Go to the UFO-themed McDonald's? If this is a Sweepstakes Trip, then presumedly you've been put up for more than one day. Roswell is a pretty small oilfield town. Not even really a tourism destination. This is pre-Yelp, so the most exciting thing you're looking at is gambling on which is the best of the half-dozen interchangeable Tex-Mex eateries.

I have more nostalgic affection for southern New Mexico than I probably should, but this was a bad prize. I desperately wish I could talk to whoever won this and hear what their trip was like.
