Pair of Twins, these two are the final boss. You basically have to simultaneously forcefem them, cause they will reinforce the others "Masculinity" if you don't. (The classic, "what are you doing bro? You soms kinda faggot?) So finally getting them to embrace being a pair of happy women is the most challenging but heartwarming.

Ok last post about this but here's some simple points that it's imperative you read and understand if you genuinely care about trans people especially as one yourself;

A) No sex or gender is virtuous or sinful by default. It's a persons words and actions which determine what kind of person they are. Leave this 'innate sin' Catholic bs at the door and send the pedestal you're forcing trans fems to sit on out with it.

B) Therefore any trans person can be transphobic, transmisogynistic or transandrophobic including if they're amongst the group targeted by the intersectional terms. All of these types of bigotry are unacceptable, regardless of your personal perceived impact on yourself and others. Nobody should be subject to any kind of bigotry.

C) This does not mean ALL members of X group are Y kind of bigots but it also doesn't mean that no X group members are Y kind of bigots. It's good to be careful of these lines of thinking in anyone if we want to get rid of it but see point A.

D) Holding individuals accountable and opposing the general ideology of transmisogyny, transandrophobia and general transphobia (including nonbinaryphobia/exorsexism and transmedicalism) is more affective than demonising a whole group based on their identity. If members are radicalised or bigoted already, they're not changing their minds because you yelled at them to kill themselves nor are they unworthy of redemption.

E) Listening to people directly about the bigotry they face is the key to understanding bigotry you might not face yourself.

F) Trans unity is the tool we need to craft a fortress so strong we can weather any storm but it won't work if we believe that's enemies in our own lines.

G) Using female-orientated insults towards trans mascs is still misogynistic. Using male-orientated insults towards trans women is still transmisogynistic. Telling anyone to kill themselves for existing loudly and in a way you disapprove of, puts you in the wrong automatically. Telling someone or a whole group to kill themselves also invalidates anything else you wish to say before or after said statement.

H) Failure to understand any of this means you are helping no groups, or even yourself, instead you are likely contributing to trans harm. Including harm to the groups you are most personally invested in helping.

Equality doesn't mean making the oppressed the oppressors and it sure as hell doesn't mean the oppressed oppressing each other. Stop doing the TERFs jobs for them.

i have read soooo many webcomics over the years and i barely remember any of them now so here’s me rambling about the stuff i do remember

selkie—comic about this guy named tom i think? who adopts a girl named selkie from an orphanage. selkie is some kind of fish person and has blue skin and gills and webbed feet and black sclera and started my obsession with giving characters with black sclera. one of the earlier comics i read and idk if its still running or finished or what. i remember it beingn pretty good? the art was really simple.

zebra girl—woman named zandra gets turned into a demon after finding a weird book or something. started out as a gag comic and then developed a plot and i’m fairly certain this one ended after like…..over a decade or something. absolutely stunning art evolution.

i don’t remember the name of this one but it was about an angel mixing up some people’s files in heaven, altering reality so that one character was now two years younger and another was now assigned female at birth. also don’t remember if it finished. very anime art style. i don’t remember much of the plot except for something about a car race

yu+me: dream—one of the comics ever….i still think about this one regularly. about a girl named fiona who starts questioning her sexuality while attending a catholic school and then has a wild genre shift. absolutely stunning art and genuinely one of my all time faves.

khaos komix—i think that was the name?? it was this really early queer comic that showed the lives of each of its characters who were all queer in some way. each storyline covered the same time period from a different character’s perspective. i vaguely remember there being drama because the storyline for the only trans fem character had her assaulting her boyfriend but it was unclear if that’s how it was supposed to be read? i think it finished.

maggot boy—discontinued but i was so into it for a while. zombie apocalypse but the two main characters are zombies that are still aware and sentient. i think this was my first glimpse of that concept and i’ve never really found anything else that lived up to it. also the art style was really fun

i don’t remember the name at all but there was some comic about. secret magic world or something and i vaguely remember a coin being important and people had true forms i think?? i really wish i could remember this one

oh there was also this comic with gorgeous art and an unclear plot and the first chapter was focused on this like. semi feral girl who was just naked all the time. artist did an impressive job of censoring it using the scenery.

monster pulse is another completed one that was really really good. about a bunch of kids whose body parts become sentient monsters separate from them.

whenever people want to hate on d4dj why do they jump straight on "It's queerphobic bc..." as if it doesn't have the best queer rep of any rhythm game out there.

Like there are actual valid reasons to not like d4dj. There's definitely an issue with sexualising the high schoolers, I've made posts talking about it before. But at the same time, if you as someone who plays other of the major gacha/rhythm games is going to say that, you should probably address that SIF, bandori (and maybe enstars? it's been a while since I played) have some dodgy cards as well. Admittedly these cards are mainly old whereas D4DJ is still producing these, but you shouldn't act like your preferred game is perfect either.

But especially saying that D4DJ is queerphobic is so weird. To say that just proves you have no idea what actually happens in the game, and you're just taking screenshots out of context.

Firstly hayakoko. Okay so in the flashback where they get together they said "but we're both girls". Yeah, it's a cliche line that screams 'written by a hetero person', but within the context of the story it's not that bad if a little cringe. Neither Hayate or Kokoa had liked a girl before they started dating, this is literally stated on screen: Hayate says that she was a little surprised to realise that she had a crush on Kokoa. They're baby gay at this point in time. I think Kokoa's an interesting one to point out as well, because she's the one who said the line in the first place, and even after she admits that she likes Kokoa as well and they start dating, the True Love Kiss side story shows her being insecure about PDA in school. It reads a lot like she's had a very heteronormative upbringing, which is very common for queer people. It's probably more common in Japan where they still don't have equal rights for queer people (they don't have marriage equality, same-sex couples can't marry, the exception being if one is trans and hasn't legally changed their gender. and after they're married they can't legally change their gender). Not to mention she goes to catholic school, and as far as I know there's some issues there. So I don't see anything wrong with Kokoa not wanting to be out publicly, and being a bit insecure when she and Hayate confess. You gotta remember they are 15 as well (and ~14 when they started dating). Their relationship isn't going to be perfect, and that's normal.

And then Aoi and her gender presentation. Aoi has always been a very masculine presenting character, and is explicitly GNC, so I can understand that some people were disappointed with her wearing long hair and a ballgown in the Aoi & Haruna Relations event. But the anger some people hold towards this. Come on, how badly can you miss the point? Aoi's gender presentation has been a part of her character since her initial card story. She says she actually used to dress more feminine and have long hair in high school, but decided to change her look because she thought she suited the shorter hair. She also mentions that when she presented fem, she would be told she looked like a cross dresser, which obviously offended her. It's not hard to see that Aoi just wants to be seen as Aoi. It's not about how she presents her gender, she's still Aoi no matter how she dresses - Tsubaki mentions this in the A&H Relations. Nothing was retconned or de-canonised when Aoi wore hair extensions and a dress, it wasn't a sudden unnecessary change. The event explores the fact she wants to try different looks outside of her usual 'princely' one, but she's a bit of a people pleaser and is unsure about it because people associate Aoi with "androgynous good looks". There was no pressure from anyone to be feminine, there was actually pressure the other way. She wore a dress and had long hair for one (1) event, and 2 illustrations. Her most recent card has her in trousers with short hair again. Like you don't have to pounce on it being erasure because Aoi wanted to dress more feminine one time. She doesn't hate being GNC now, she's not permanently feminine now - Aoi being GNC is a part of who she is. Aoi being fluid with her gender expression is a part of her queerness and I don't get how you can miss the point so badly to call it erasure.

D4DJ is genuinely one of if not the best mainstream gacha/rhythm game for queer rep. There's so much more than just this: Tsubaki and Aoi are canonically in love with each other and there was even an attempted confession (they got interrupted), KyoShino have implied romantic feelings, same with NagiHiiro and RinMuni (mainly from Muni's side). Haruna was pretty much confirmed as lesbian during the A&H relations, and has had crushes on two separate characters. Saori's sapphic as well (there's one or two implications that she's bisexual). Having Hayate and Kokoa in a relationship opens the doors to more ships becoming canon in the future. The only negative representation I can think of in this game is Noa, so if you really want to go out of your way to say D4DJ is queerphobic, there you go. Noa likes cute thing, cute girls, and flanderisation took hold quickly to the point of her being creepily obsessed with the ri4 girls and a few others, and literally stalking them. Yikes. Her writing is improving though, especially in All Mix where she just occasionally comments on how cute they are without taking it too far, and they actually let her have other personality traits expressed that had pretty much been forgotten.

My point here is that if you're going to say D4DJ is bad rep or homophobic, you're admitting that your game is worse for representation. I'm not saying that the games in the "Big 3" (proseka/bandori/enstars) are bad by any means (idk about enstars actually I didn't play for very long), but D4DJ has definitely taken some big steps in queer representation that those games are seemingly too scared to make. Having a canon sapphic couple is a game like this is a huge deal, I'm not even sure if it's been done before. And before anyone says "but anhane and minoharu went on a double date in Buddy Funny Spend Time", neither of those pairs are stated or even fucking implied to be in a relationship outside of that event. It kinda just happens in one event, and even then it's still a bit vague on whether either of the couples are actually dating in the event. It's definitely heavily implied that anhane/minoharu have mutual romantic feelings, so they are arguably canon in that sense, just not in an established relationship sense. Bandori has done this as well with PareChu, have them go on dates and be clearly romantically interested in each other, only to never actually be a couple (I know tsumutsumu and reochi have called parechu an official couple, but that's word of saint paul rather than word of god, so take this how you will). Hayakoko is HUGE for this genre, and could mean good things in the future of other rhythm games (especially other Bushiroad ones).

--Break here where I went on a tangent about non-D4DJ queercoding--

Outside of schroedingers dating, both bandori and proseka have characters who are implied/canonically queer. I'll make this short because this is getting really long now and I apologise to anyone who's still reading.

For bandori, Arisa has a crush on Kasumi, Kaoru can be considered as canonically lesbian just from how she's presented, YukiLisa has a lot of implications for romantic feelings, as do MocaRan. Himari is also an interesting case, as she could be read as bisexual or comphet lesbian, it's never really made clear (at least as far as I know, I stopped playing bandori a while ago, and am not up-to-date on story, so anyone who's still reading feel free to add to this or correct me). There's probably some stuff missing here as well.

As for proseka, it actually has quite a lot of queercoding. I already touched on anhane and minoharu earlier, but Kohane and Minori are both heavily implied to be lesbian, An as well (although there's like one or two hints that she could be bi. I can cite them if needed). Mizuki is canonically transfeminine (their gender is unconfirmed), and they have been shown to be attracted to women. ShizuAiri and AkiToya have a lot of romantic implications in their relationships, EmuNene has gradually been getting more and more actually (Amidst a Dream). Ena is implied wlw and Rui is implied mlm okay I think I got everything tangent over.

Regardless of my criticisms, all of the games I've mentioned definitely show how much queer rep has grown and become a lot better in the last decade or so. While not focused on the rhythm game, the first generation of Love Live (2010-16) queerbaited* a fair amount. To give one example, there's an 'interview' with Honoka from 2015 where she heavily implies that she's straight, despite having ship tease with other female characters. Compare that to what we have 8 years later, and you can definitely see improvement. However I think it still needs to be addressed that what we have isn't perfect, and it probably will take while to get to a point where we can have more openly queer characters/couples, especially considering Japan as a country (and american/else localisation teams). But I think more people need to recognise how important D4DJ is for queer representation within this genre. It's really not common to have queer romance and gender presentation be directly addressed and frequently shown, and not just for the sake of making money.

Whether the rhythm games mentioned do this or not is... debatable? It's done for the money which ticks the intentionally malicious box, queer people aren't for capitalising on. But a good amount of the time it's done to bait straight people who like yuri/yaoi. I do think it's queerbait though like heavily ship teasing a couple and then throwing in a line to imply one of them is straight definitely queerbaiting. april edit: it took me over a month to realise that there were words missing in that last sentence sorry about that. hi anyone who's reading this in the future

The question is, uhh, why is Squalo so afraid of being feminine in your fiction? I mean, not only in the fiction but I think I saw this in one of your comics too- So yeah, is that really such a big deal? The fandom often makes them out to be a completely normal hetero couple, if you know what I mean, and I just want to know, like, why is that so

Why can Tiziano, even though he's Catholic, be feminine, but Squalo can't? As I understand it, he is not cisgender in your works, but on the other hand, it seems that nowhere is it indicated that he has like, a terrible unbearable dysphoria, usually you indicate that he is just… unsure of himself, as I understood

And it seems that in both anime and manga, Squalo seems to be quite a flamboyant anyway, considering that he was drawn directly from a woman, like Tiziano

my interpretation of Squalo is very specific and also heavily based on my fanon backstory for him.

I'm going to try to be as thorough as I can to try and help you understand since you seem confused, and I've kinda been holding back on giving Squalo's whole backstory so I could reveal it later in fic form so like. fic 'spoilers' ahead if anyone wants to wait until I reveal it in story form

I'm sorry if I come off as really aggressive here I'm not trying to be mean or sound pissy or anything? so first off:

no it's not a big deal but it's a big deal to him. It takes him a while for him to come to terms with himself - a lot of the Squalo in my comics where you see him being worried about being fem - you can assume they're pre-VA and close to his transition, so he's particularly sensitive and insecure and relying on Tiziano to reassure him.

He's also! very, very oversensitive, for various reasons; because of toxic masculinity, he's scared to show that he's afraid or sad or upset in any way other than turning it into anger - except with Tiziano; Tiziano is the only person who he feels safe crying around. But because of that, his emotions tend to seem wildly exaggerated; he sometimes acts angrier than he is, and when he does express his other negative emotions around Tiziano, they've been bottled up so they seem excessive sometimes

they are both men gay men they are men in love they are not hetero i do not care if the fandom 'makes them out to be' a 'completely normal hetero couple' whatever that means. I also don't give a single shit at all how much the fandom feminises Tiziano and puts him in a "female role" just because he's got long hair and gorgeous eyes if that's what you mean. I understand how someone who doesn't feel the way I do might not get it, especially since I basically haven't addressed Squalo's backstory (that I came up with) directly, so I'll elaborate on my interpretation of Squalo and my backstory for him:

It's because he's a trans man, and i guess you may not have gotten this but essentially yes he does have crippling dysphoria. maybe I haven't made it super clear but. Squalo has been unbearably dysphoric his entire life (pretty much ever since (unfortunately) developing a concept of gender roles as a kid). and it's specifically especially due to his horrible upbringing situation and the relentless bullying he went thru as a kid (not to mention he never got diagnosed for most of his mental disorders, e.g. ADHD, possibly Autism, Anxiety, etc.) squalo is like if i never figured out what was wrong with me and never got medicated

For Tiziano: a very specific interpretation of Tiziano I have is that Tiziano is incredibly secure in his masculinity? which is why he's fine embracing 'femininity' because he doesn't feel the need to prove himself to anyone? He's literally just chilling, like he knows he's masc. He doesn't care if other people think he's fem. Not his problem. Like. all his 'feminine' stuff he doesn't even see it as feminine it's just. stuff he likes. hes very firm on the "clothing doesn't have gender" stance. I have no idea what Catholicism has to do with him being secure in his masculinity, but also, he's only "especially" religious in the Rockstar AU (I think?). He doesn't even have internalised homophobia. He's just got the Sex Before Marriage shame (and he gets over it real easy because he wants Squalo so bad). The whole Tiziano-never-dated-before-Squalo thing I have established is sort of a constant, but that's not because of Catholicism; it's literally just because he's a sucker for romance and wanted to fall in love first. but he's? demi/aro-spec despite being homosexual, so the only person he ever actually fell in love with happened to be Squalo

Anyways Squalo's desperation to not be perceived as feminine in certain depictions of mine is also probably linked to trauma? like childhood trauma / child abuse.

to make a long fuckin story short, Squalo has a lot of siblings, his dad was always working, and his mother was just generally massively transphobic and abusive towards him specifically and refused to even acknowledge him as a boy. so his insecurity is kind of just a direct result of his mother fucking hated him (and probably shouldn't have had so many kids, let's be real) . Squalo was desperate to be seen as a man, so now he's paranoid that he's not Good Enough As A Man If He's Feminine, and if people start calling him a woman, he may just actually kill himself. genuinely (this isnt an exaggeration Squalo has been genuinely suicidal over being denied his own identity in the past)

He gets better about it over time (in particular, after he gets his surgeries), and the longer he's got the 'right' body and is with his beloved boyfriend, the more comfortable he gets in his masculinity (to the point he may be fine being somewhat more "fem" - though I will say I personally can't remember specific examples in canon of him being particularly flamboyant? granted i have the worst memory) but he is sometimes still anxious and insecure and afraid that he isn't good enough

Re what happened w the rad fem stuff I think um. One thing the person said was that lumping detrans ppl in w radfem/terfs is what makes them more radicalized against trans ppl and like. We didn’t lump bc ur detrans we lumped bc u admitted and defended associating urself w radfem terfs . Also the idea that it is someone else’s responsibility to ensure you do not become a bigot ? As I work out who to include and what role ancestors/the dead play in my local cultus, I decided to make this glossary for study and comparison of different cultures and traditions- this is not implying that these cultures should all be combined or borrowed from, as the boundaries of those traditions will vary.

I've decided to included house spirits in this list, as they often overlap a lot with ancestor cults, household worship. Or I may put them in a different list.

apotheosis- Greek- elevation of a human soul to godhood

Dii Manes- Roman- Divine Dead

disir- Collective of Norse female divine ancestors- cognate with the German idises, Celto-Roman matronae- associated with fertility, childbirth, dead, often depicted with fruit, grain, cornucopias, distaffs, spinning wheels. Some specific goddesses that may be related to the matronae include the Frisian/Dutch Nehalennia, the Gaulish Rosmerta.

euhemerization- the view that deities were once historical people. Some we have myths explaining that a human was deified or became a bodhisattva

hero (fem- heroine) Greek- a legendary person known for great deeds. Sometimes deified, often seen as semi-divine or a demigod/dess that is more powerful than a regular ancestor spirit.

folk saint- a saint that is venerated but not officially recognized by the Roman Catholic or an Eastern Orthodox church.

kula devata- in Hinduism, the guardian/patron deity of a family, clan or village. Sometimes an aspect of one of the major Hindu deities.

martyr- Greek- someone who died for their beliefs (religious and/or political) While typically associated with Christians there are a number of polytheist, pagan & heathen martyrs.

Mighty Dead- used for spiritual leaders, clergy, founders of traditions honored in modern Pagan and Witchcraft traditions (I'm not sure of origin of this term- I recall it first being used in British Traditional Witchcraft (BTW) but not positive.

restless dead- Spirits of those that died angry, with unfinished business, trauma. In some traditions they may be approached with caution and calmed with particular rituals, offerings and prayers so that they can move on to the afterlife, and bless descendants. They also may cause harm.

transcestors- modern portmanteau for transgender/transsexual ancestors/dead coined/used by some Pagans, polytheists, witches etc. especially for honoring folks on Trans Day of Remembrance. (TDoR)

Wild Hunt- legend/belief in a procession of spirits and other beings riding horses led by a deity, hero or legendary being. Legends of the Wild Hunt are found all over Europe and have many regional variations.
