Launching a Microlearning Initiative: Strategies for Success
Launching a microlearning initiative for the first time can indeed be overwhelming. The promise of delivering concise, engaging, and effective training in short bursts is appealing, but the reality is that successful implementation requires careful planning and understanding. One of the main reasons microlearning initiatives fail is poor planning and implementation, often stemming from a lack of proper understanding of what microlearning can and cannot do. Additionally, many organizations approach microlearning with unrealistic expectations, hoping it will be a catch-all solution to their training problems. This guide aims to provide a comprehensive overview of how to successfully launch a microlearning initiative by addressing these challenges head-on.
Understanding Microlearning
What Microlearning Can Do
Enhance Knowledge Retention: By delivering content in small, manageable chunks, microlearning helps learners better retain information. Studies show that breaking information into bite-sized pieces makes it easier for the brain to process and store.
Increase Engagement: Short, focused modules are more engaging than lengthy training sessions. Learners are more likely to stay focused and complete the training when it doesn’t feel like a huge time commitment.
Facilitate Just-In-Time Learning: Microlearning is perfect for on-the-go learning. It allows employees to access the training they need exactly when they need it, leading to immediate application of skills and knowledge.
Support Continuous Learning: Microlearning encourages continuous learning and development by making it easy for employees to fit learning into their busy schedules.
What Microlearning Cannot Do
Replace Comprehensive Training Programs: Microlearning is not a substitute for in-depth training programs. While it’s excellent for reinforcing knowledge and providing quick updates, it cannot replace the depth of traditional training programs.
Solve All Training Problems: Microlearning is not a magic wand that can be used to address all training issues. It’s essential to identify the specific problems it can solve and not expect it to fix everything.
Cater to All Learning Styles: While microlearning is effective for many, it might not suit every learner’s style or preference. Some topics might require more extensive, interactive, or hands-on training methods.
Planning Your Microlearning Initiative
Identify Clear Objectives
Before launching a microlearning initiative, it’s crucial to define clear objectives. What do you want to achieve with microlearning? Objectives might include improving knowledge retention, increasing engagement, providing just-in-time training, or supporting continuous learning. Clear objectives will guide your planning and help you measure success.
Assess Training Needs
Conduct a thorough assessment of your training needs. Identify the specific skills and knowledge gaps that microlearning can address. Understand the pain points in your current training programs and determine if microlearning is the right solution. This assessment will help you design relevant and effective microlearning content.
Understand Your Audience
Knowing your audience is key to designing effective microlearning modules. Consider the following:
Learning Preferences: How do your employees prefer to learn? Do they like videos, interactive quizzes, or reading articles? Tailor your microlearning content to match their preferences.
Access to Technology: Ensure that your employees have access to the technology needed to engage with microlearning. This might include mobile devices, internet access, and the necessary software.
Time Constraints: Understand the time constraints of your employees. Design microlearning modules that can be completed within their available time.
Design Engaging Content
Content is the heart of any microlearning initiative. Here are some tips for designing engaging microlearning content:
Keep It Short and Focused: Each module should focus on a single topic or concept and be no longer than 5-10 minutes.
Use Multimedia: Incorporate videos, infographics, and interactive elements to make the content more engaging.
Include Assessments: Add quizzes or interactive activities to reinforce learning and provide immediate feedback.
Make It Relevant: Ensure that the content is directly relevant to the learners’ job roles and responsibilities.
Develop a Delivery Strategy
Decide how you will deliver your microlearning modules. Options include:
Learning Management Systems (LMS): An LMS can help you organize and track microlearning modules, making it easy for employees to access and complete them.
Mobile Apps: Mobile apps are perfect for delivering microlearning on the go. They allow employees to access training anytime, anywhere.
Email Campaigns: Email campaigns can be an effective way to deliver microlearning modules directly to employees’ inboxes.
Implement and Monitor
Once you’ve planned your microlearning initiative, it’s time to implement and monitor it. Here’s how:
Pilot Test: Start with a small group of employees to test the microlearning modules. Gather feedback and make necessary adjustments.
Launch: Roll out the microlearning initiative to the entire organization. Ensure that employees know how to access and use the modules.
Monitor Progress: Use analytics to track completion rates, engagement levels, and assessment scores. Monitor progress to identify any issues and make continuous improvements.
Common Pitfalls to Avoid
Unrealistic Expectations
One of the biggest mistakes organizations make is expecting microlearning to be a one-size-fits-all solution. It’s important to have realistic expectations and understand that microlearning is a tool that works best when used for specific purposes.
Lack of Integration
Microlearning should not exist in a vacuum. It should be integrated into your overall training and development strategy. Ensure that microlearning modules complement other training initiatives and provide a seamless learning experience.
Poor Quality Content
The effectiveness of microlearning hinges on the quality of the content. Avoid cramming too much information into a single module. Focus on delivering high-quality, concise, and relevant content that meets the learners’ needs.
Inadequate Support
Ensure that employees have the support they need to engage with microlearning. This includes technical support for accessing the modules and guidance on how to make the most of the training.
Measuring Success
To determine the success of your microlearning initiative, you need to measure its impact. Here are some key metrics to track:
Engagement Metrics
Completion Rates: Track the percentage of employees who complete the microlearning modules.
Time Spent: Measure the average time employees spend on each module to gauge engagement levels.
Learning Outcomes
Assessment Scores: Use quizzes and assessments to measure knowledge retention and understanding.
Application of Skills: Monitor how well employees apply the learned skills in their job roles.
Feedback
Employee Feedback: Gather feedback from employees to understand their experience with the microlearning modules and identify areas for improvement.
Manager Feedback: Get feedback from managers on the impact of microlearning on employee performance and behavior.
ROI
Cost Savings: Calculate the cost savings from reduced training time and resources.
Performance Improvement: Measure improvements in key performance indicators (KPIs) that are directly related to the training objectives.
Conclusion
Launching a successful microlearning initiative requires careful planning, understanding, and execution. By setting clear objectives, assessing training needs, designing engaging content, and continuously monitoring progress, you can ensure that your microlearning initiative delivers the desired results. Avoid common pitfalls such as unrealistic expectations, poor quality content, and lack of integration. Instead, focus on creating a seamless, engaging, and effective learning experience that meets the specific needs of your organization. With the right approach, microlearning can be a powerful tool for enhancing employee training and development, ultimately leading to improved performance and ROI.

Lan Wangji Goes To Lotus Pier AU: Part 1: Dread on Arrival
(Part 2)
#poorly drawn mdzs#mdzs#lan wangji#jiang fengmian#jiang cheng#wei wuxian#Yungmeng Jiang Training Arc AU#MDZS AU#The AU name for this idea is something I am 100% willing to change if someone has a better one.#There will be at least 2-3 more comics so *please*. Ideas and feedback welcome.#The core idea behind this AU is that LWJ goes to study with the Yunmeng Jiang sect instead of JC and WWX going to Cloud Recess#But why? Well I imagine Lan Xichen set it up to give LWJ a challenge (more social than skill based) and LWJ rose to it (begrudgingly)#Sort of a 'You've mastered so many Lan techniques but Other Sects have styles that are worth learning.' set up.#Lan Qiren agrees mostly on the basis that...well it's LWJ. Yunmeng Jiang is unruly but LWJ is beyond that riff-raff. He'll rise above it.#This is the story of a boy who thrives on routine and rules spending time in a place that is his apparent antithesis.#Also it is so warm there. He is used to it being cold and what do you MEAN just take off some of my layers?#I just want to see him struggle and flail in many situations. And get him in Jiang Purple. Is that so wrong of me?#(Soaking wet JC is part of my 'JC was born to swim; forced to hold a sword' agenda. Do not remove him from the water)#((Politeness notes: JFM would *not* call LWJ 'lan wangji' nor would LWJ be vocally impolite to a sect leader.))

Routing the El
@mbta-unofficial recently "routed" the T in Boston, riding through every T stop in the city in a single day. I love public transit and random fuckery so this appealed to me instantly, but even @mbta-unofficial admitted they didn't know how they'd route the El here in Chicago. I know nothing about routing and very little about certain parts of the El even after living here as long as I have, but I'm willing to take a swing.
The first question is one of simple logistics: are we riding every stop, or every train that passes through a stop?
In other words, there are many stops that multiple lines pass through, and the question is whether it's enough to pass through each stop on a train, or do I need to ride the entirety of the line, then backtrack and hit the same stations on a different line? This wouldn't be such a big deal if it weren't for the purple line, which is an express from Evanston that covers much of the northern red line branch and a huge whack of the brown line as well. If I'm covering lines, I almost certainly need to start with purple.
Moreover, do I include the yellow line, which is an extension built to serve basically a single suburb? It feels snobbish to ignore it; it is outside of Chicago proper but then so are several stops on the blue and green. But it also feels very Chicagoan not to acknowledge it, and it is going to be a massive pain in the ass to include because there's nothing near it. I would just be riding out to the Dempster-Skokie stop and back, or starting at Dempster-Skokie and then having to backtrack up the purple line.
Which leads to the next question: where to begin? @mbta-unofficial's route began at one of the termini, Braintree, which they traveled to get to, so in theory one could, and probably should, begin at an endpoint, but the T also isn't structured exactly like the El; there is a central exchange, but nothing as cohesive as the Loop, around which almost every line circulates and which every line at least touches except the yellow. But living downtown, I could also begin at a Loop station, or a red or blue line station that touches the Loop.
So let's set some rules for the initial run, and once that's accomplished, we'll see about adding complications.
Every station, not every line. As long as I touch every station while on a train, it counts.
However, if the stations are discrete, I have to hit them twice -- in other words, I have to touch Monroe and Jackson twice, once on the Red and once on the Blue, because the platforms are accessible to each other but separated by a passageway several blocks long. I'll have to touch Lake twice, once on the Red, because it's both elevated and underground.
I'm going to disqualify the Yellow not because it's suburban but because it doesn't touch the Loop. This is the rule I'd most likely revisit if I was going to attempt this several times.
I am also going to disqualify the purple line, not via the "loop exception" but because it will knock almost half the red line off the map for me in about a third of the time it would otherwise take, but even so having to start at Linden kind of fucks me. Given the purple line's extremely limited running time, there's an argument for disqualification, but this is another rule I'd revisit on a second attempt.
Removing the purple line makes routing a lot easier. And I think the starting point then becomes both obvious and poetic: we start at O'Hare, where it costs double to board the train.
O'Hare blue line all the way to Forest Park is an easy first leap, and from there I think it's most rational to bus to the green at Harlem/Lake and ride it all the way to Cottage Grove. From Cottage Grove, backtrack to Garfield to cover the Ashland-63rd leg of the green line, and then again back to Garfield to disembark and walk to the Garfield red line, which I can take south to 95th/Dan Ryan, then north again to Roosevelt (another two-touch stop). I can catch the Orange at Roosevelt south to Midway and back north again unless there's a fast bus to 54th/Cermak; presuming there's not, depending on stop times I can either take the Orange line back to hit any missing loop station or transfer to the Pink and then take that out to 54th/Cermak. Either way I need to get back into the Loop and catch the Brown out to Kimball, then back to Belmont (or Montrose and bus to Wilson), north to Howard, then south to Harrison on the Red line. Convenient to end at my home station -- I didn't plan it around that, but it's a nice touch.
If I really wanted to get ADHD about this I could sit down with timetables and work out ways to catch trains within the loop to shave minutes off, but El timetables are essentially worthless these days.
I think that's a functional plan. Working off my base knowledge of the trains and also with the reminder that I'm pretty time-blind, I'm estimating:
Blue line O'Hare to Forest Park: 2hrs
Bus to Harlem/Lake: The 318 picks up every 15 minutes and takes 8 minutes, so guesstimate 30 minutes to be on the safe side.
Green Line Harlem/Lake to Cottage Grove: 1.5hrs
Cottage Grove back up to Garfield and down to Ashland/63rd: Again no idea, but probably at least 30 minutes
Ashland/63rd to Garfield and transfer to Red Line Garfield: 30 minutes?
Red Line Garfield to 95th/Dan Ryan and back to Roosevelt: 1.5hrs
Orange Line Roosevelt to Midway: 30 minutes
The 54B bus comes every 20 minutes and take 40 minutes to get from Midway to 54th/Cermak, which is still I thiiiink faster than doing Orange back to Washington/Wells and then Pink out and back. Mulling this one still. Either way, Pink line gets me to Clark/Lake
Walk to Washington/Wells, Brown Line around the loop to hit the missing Loop stations, to Kimball: 1hr
Kimball to Belmont: 30mins
Belmont Red Line to Howard: 1hr (Red line to Howard is HIGHLY variable, I've had it take anywhere from 40-90 minutes from Harrison)
Howard to Harrison: 1hr
About 13 hours in total, let's say my time to beat is 15 hours.
I can't do it this coming weekend; I have all-day events both days. I can't take a day off next week either, I'm going to be slammed at work ahead of an event. So my best bet is either Saturday or Sunday the 20th/21st, or taking Wednesday the 24th off...
Or this Friday. I could call in sick with few ramifications.
Well, I'll keep prepping for now -- find the bus I need from Forest Park to Harlem/Lake, then maybe run the whole route through Google Maps to see what it thinks the timing estimate would be. It might even have some ways to shave time off -- still looking at that Pink-Orange transfer and wondering.
And I need to find places around transfer points to take bathroom breaks since the El doesn't have public restrooms. I can probably get to a bathroom at Midway and back in the 12-minute delay time between arrival and departure...

I dislike takes that Danse would be just as conservative in modernized aus when it's clearly shown his staunch views of things come from his time in the Brotherhood and his deep-rooted desire to belong to something with a greater purpose.
Not to mention lines that show much more open-mindedness that get overlooked for his harsher sentiments when you first meet him. Like the oppurtunity to be a part of something is why Danse fell so far into Brotherhood dogma and it doesn't negate the offense things he does but I feel like it's just lazy to be like "hmmm he'd def be racist" just so it aligns to his BoS beliefs.
#like i genuinely think he would like not fall into the military if he was in modern times because of all the other things he could do#he clearly has a passion for tech and mods and likely would find himself more useful as like a mechanic like at most hes one of those range#types or something but I feel like people equate his seriousness and him being a military man to closemindedness when its like having to ge#a new view point like we really dont know what he believed in before the BoS if he believed in anything at all outside of selling scrap to#survive before basically having an army recruiter have him join one of the scariest factions like why is the BoS so fucking violent???#like the BoS operates in such a way cause there is no civilian population like everyone is something or training to be so they arent really#fighting for anything but themselves at this point which is just a feedback loop of gaining more power and is not equatable to real#military people due to the fact most of the recruits are really born and bred to be soliders while say irl you have a family and country to#fight for and return to outside the military which is def grounding as Danse wouldn't be in the army 24/7 like in canon#idk its odd to me when a character that is has fantastic racism ergo the trope of bigotry to fake races people try to translate it to real#life especially when those races have not equivalent like tell me what is the irl equal to a fucking ghoul or super mutant like????#racism is not like a funny headcanon like making him a defrosting prude or by the book is whatever but he would not be a bigot just like a#narc or some shit hed tell on me for loitering but I know hed tear apart each voting party and likely the military for being self serving#and like knows all about it and it makes him sound like a politics nut but its more annoyance like I have such strong feelings about#characters who would be marginially better if they were not victums to the military like yes I believe we can fix Danse he just needs to#be around not war/the military for like a week and see people be happy existing like he doesnt know how to do that but this is a weird take#ive seen mostly from white fans that makes me super uncomfy like ur weird#anyway still fuck the brotherhood everyone is so rude like damn i know its the east coast but can we get a little hospitality fuck you#maccready was right brotherhood of squeal more like it dont worry porky we'll get you out (danse is porky btw)#fallout#fallout 4#fo4#paladin danse

Tonight we did an impromptu training session with the visiting judge after the trial ended, and it felt like I was publicly eviscerated. Her approach was tough love, but I'm not in a place to receive that. What I need right now is empathy and optimism. I just felt incredibly defensive, embarrassed and sad. I held it together until I was driving home.
Anyway, she didn't say anything I didn't already know. She also saw me run Marceline when I've been through nearly two years of a downward trend where nothing I have tried has improved the situation. So yeah, I am not performing well and I don't have it in me to be positive when I am in a demoralised state. I know that's not a good place to be, but it's the reality.
Of course, the answer is pay someone to fix it. I don't know who can fix it, and I don't have much money to pay. I don't have the ability to travel for workshops or seminars to get in-person training. I don't know who to fly up on the club's dime that would actually know how to help, and I don't even think I would get time to work with them given that I have to run the club so any seminar hosted by the club means I'd have to run it which means less time to train.
I know that these are just excuses to some, but they're also reasons that fixing this problem is hard. And I don't really feel like pretending it's not hard for me when it is. I'm not the kind of person who sees my dog repeatedly say no and just be able to switch on a happy face and pretend everything's fine, push through it positively, or laugh as I walk away. I was getting picture perfect performance in training, with all the enthusiasm you could desire, and then the literal next day at trial the picture was so colossally different... I don't know man.
I've been sad about this too much. I simply don't have endless money to throw at it, especially if I don't know the money I spend will actually give me the answers I need.
I don't know. I don't know.
#dog training#dog agility#Marceline#to be clear the judge wasn't rude or mean or anything like that#she is extremely blunt but that's not the issue#I was just not in a place to receive that feedback at that time#especially not in front of everyone#and I just don't feel good about it

i really liked the design of this shirt but 1) too many dollars 2) i wasn’t about to stand in that merch line for an hour and 3) it’s not on the website anymore??? idk
anyway i have decided to embark on a fun project in which i recreate this design but instead of the city names it’s the 8 ball from that show, which means it won’t be done until april! so i’m gonna post progress updates as i do them. graphic design is my passion or whatever
here is the current draft updated through 3/4:
i’m doing it in illustrator because i have access through my school and also it’s easier to move things around as stuff gets added. i don’t know yet if i’ll try to make it into a shirt or maybe a poster or something once it’s done
my main obstacle to making it really similar to the original is these fucking song titles jesus christ. it took me like 5 hours noodling to get the current composition. slump isn’t even one of their longest like if they play get busy in raleigh i’m cooked. i am having fun though so that’s what matters
finding the fonts is also very time consuming but still fun, there are some i straight up can’t find anywhere (and the image isn’t hq enough to be able to tell exactly what they look like anyway) so for some of them i’m just gonna use the best match and then convert to shapes and fuck around until it looks right; i did it with the 3.3 and 3.4 idk if it’s noticeable
i’ll rb this post with more updates!! hopefully posting will also structure the time i work on it so i don’t end up completely missing schoolwork due to hyperfocusing on this
#fun stuff!!!#bees’ art#fall out boy#fob#2ourdust#i’ve looked for the fonts through austin but i’m trying to not fail my classes so i’m pausing the search until after the following show#i’m realizing they might eventually repeat an 8 ball like last year but i think it’ll still be cool#also for double 8 balls i’m gonna put both if they’re both fob songs but there hasn’t been a double 8 ball yet! so no worries 😐#ahahaha.#i’m open to constructive feedback too lol i have very limited graphic design training and am mostly self taught#bees' graphic design adventure

#bakuspecial#commission art#the grayscale for these were done on a train with my laptop track pad fksdjhf it was! manageable! but not desirable condition#that was before I got my new current tablet too... thank you my old huion. you served me well. Im so sorry I chipped ur paint to shit#ngl the texture on the new one's better off the bat. the grip's better and it has good kinetic feedback#too bad abt the touch buttons tho... I was confident I could make use of them but alas#things need actual feelable buttons again please I can Not tell where anything is when Im drawing and cant look at the tablet#my eyes are on the screen!! Im bad at gauging distance!!! please give me buttons I can find in the dark. please#even the old huion which has actual buttons I still couldnt use them. bc theyre not raised#theyre flat to the tablet's surface. you know what I shouldve tacked raised stickers on them I was stupid there#well! the more u learn. the more u learn#I'm happy with the current tablet tho!! buttons stuff aside it's nice to draw on. and thats what important. wrists dont hurt no more#almost said ''I miss the wacom eraser end" I don't. not really. every time I used that thang I was like wow you are so imprecise and blunt#litcherally why would you want basically a mappable stylus end but it's 50 times the size of a normal nib and you cant see where ur drawing#especially on a screen tablet. the dynamic there makes absolutely no sense#I can really do the same thing now by mapping one of the stylus buttons to swap foreground color to transparency#anyways. this has been my testimonies on tablets. in the tags of a dip pen ink post lmao#well! this is a late post I shouldve posted this before art fight. thank u again to that anon who reminded me#have a good day lads! we can answer emails together. hands in professional hands

Once again I prove victorious (in my own head) (in the battle of whether I should do different work than I have been doing)
#things i have determined about my advisor and dissertation:#i have to have adequate historical context but i do not have to make historical arguments and he is wrong in pushing for the latter#just because he thinks ''i want to know more about X'' when reading my X-adjacent chapter doesn't mean my chapter is the place for it#and most importantly:#the enemy is using very minor ways he's sinning against me (not remembering anything i say; not giving feedback in time)#as gateways to launch enormous attacks on me#with so many avenues for my defeat (i could cherish anger towards my advisor! i could quit trying to do theology!#i could double down on pride in my own work! i could give up the part of my work that's a spiritual gift!#i could just get really depressed and lazy (as i have already done but only for less than 24 hours)!#i could get bogged down in trying to do many things FOR WHICH I HAVE NOT BEEN TRAINED and not graduate on time!)#it's very comforting i think to have a clear sense of the spiritual warfare in the matter#cause it lets me acknowledge all the pain and horror it causes me as a real thing#without blaming my advisor (a well-intentioned if careless) man for all of it#the dissertation

#love in the air#lita#rain#scriptwriting was the only course within my major famous for making people openly cry#because the professor would eviscerate you with her feedback#not to be mean; but she would look at the feedback you'd already been given by your classmates over and over throughout the course#and if you still hadn't fixed issues she'd really stab into them and rip you apart#she liked me though- i followed the syllabus due dates and no one else did#meaning day 1 i already had a treatment ready by the first class#and even though she told me the syllabus schedule didn't need to be followed; i chose to follow it#because it kept me a week ahead or so#So when I finished each 200+ page draft of my script I was finishing it a week early#which let me focus on other exams in other classes and manage my workload more easily#the only time scriptwriting made me cry was when i spent 6 hours typing draft 6 of a 214 page feature and my computer crashed#erased the whole thing#i'd been typing up the script based on hand notes i'd written on my previous draft so it was easy to recreate#but redoing it took 8 hours since my hands were so tired#but that wasn't the classes fault; that was my fault#i did really well in the class; you just can't take feedback personally and a lot of writers really struggle with that#i've lost so many friends because they claim to be writers who take feedback seriously#and then it turns out they're little bitches about it and throw tantrums after begging me to give them feedback#so now I will not give a friend feedback on anything they write#for the record- the way i was trained is not to be cruel or mean#you literally just go through it like 'here is what I had issues with as a viewer and here are some ideas on how to easily fix that'#always offer a solution#and for every complaint you have to give a complementt#so i'm not out there like gordon ramsey ripping into people; it's very gentle and kind#except when i gave M her round 6 feedback on her script and she STILL insisted Mt Everest was 3 billion years old in her story#AT EVERY STAGE OF THIS SCRIPT I REMINDED YOU IT IS AROUND 30 MILLION YEARS OLD GET IT THROUGH YOUR-
