i want to hear a happy love story after that one ):

i did not properly go to school for the first several years of my life. actually, it was very improper even when i went to a “structured” aka public school. i was very alone a lot of the time which actually sits fine with me but i did notice that i was alone.

somewhere in the mess of people, popped out a girl with strikingly blonde hair and she was missing one of her teeth. she had the kind of smile like she had just gotten done roughhousing on the playground and was ready for some post-play mischief. i knew T would be my friend for years, we were separated. her family moved around, mine fell apart, she moved with her dad in states away, i moved out of the states. yet whenever we stumbled back together i felt the same as when she first fell into my life: “oh, hey, there’s my friend”

even after we were in middle school together, our classes were different. our friends were the same but things were too weird with me for her to regularly get involved. my health was in the tubes and, by the time high school rolled around, i was alone again. somewhere, in the mess of halls, T came outta nowhere and grabbed my arm, she dragged me to the breakfast table and very readily announced “this is my friend” to a group of girls i knew very little about.i knew that i didn’t understand the social consequences of T hanging out with me and calling me her friend, but i understood they were grave (i had a lot of issues, i was a problem-child for a few years)

while many people tried to avoid me and i did my own thing, i always looked around and she would be there, ready to offer me her hand and help me back up. she was extroverted where i was introverted, we fell apart but she never lost me. she never left me behind.

now that i live 800 miles away from her (actually, 850, now that i take into account T moving for her new life) i have just given her my new phone number this morning and plan to talk to her in about 20 minutes when she gets off of work. i can’t truly call her my childhood friend because it was so strange for us both, but she was my buddy and turned to my friend, a playmate turned adult in whatever way it can. and she’s never lost contact, never lost trust, never lost love, and i haven’t either.

i think her soul must remember losing part of itself to mine in some kind of past-life, if you wanna go by that metaphor, and she knows she doesn’t want to lose me again. and i’m grateful for i love her and would be utterly lost and confused with T as some kind of beacon. i’ll keep part of her in my soul, hoping that next time i’ll be the one that can help her along

Today may seem like just another day for some, but for you it was your birthday! You were awakened with texts from friends and family, all congratulating you on your special day. One of your best friends, Lauren, had sent you birthday wishes too, but her text left a bit to the imagination.

🎬 Lauren 💗: Happy Birthday bestie!!! I have a little gift for ya, it should be on your doorstep later today…

Lauren has been your best friend, since childhood. Her dreams of being an actress came true when she landed a role in Avengers: Age of Ultron, as another Maximoff sibling. The one thing about Lauren was she was such a bubbly and outgoing person, that it was no problem for her to get along with the cast. After she did Age of Ultron, the producers decided to add her character in Captain America: Civil War. So during the time of production, she got especially close to Chris, Elizabeth, Anthony, and Sebastian. Of course, Lauren and Chris became closer through the many shenanigans they both perspired and then performed. The two were so alike in character, it was hard to separate them. One time, Sebastian and Anthony had challenged them to a prank war and of course the two adult-children couldn’t turn down the offer.

While Lauren filmed Avengers: Infinity War, she invited you to come down. It was fun to meet the cast, because apparently all Lauren did was talk about you. They were all so welcoming that you couldn’t wait to go back the next day. Even at the end of filming, they invited you to their cast dinner, which felt nice to be held so high in their minds. From there on out you were always invited to any events with them, becoming close to all.

So because Lauren was practically joined at the hip with Evans, without doubt he soon became your close friend too. Not too long ago, Chris had taken you along to the Oscars. Chris looked dapper in a tuxedo and you in a blush a-line dress. The people absolutely ate it up, even sparking dating rumours, in which you had wished they were true.

Now back to your special day. As you got ready, you couldn’t stop wondering what Lauren was gonna give or maybe even bring to you. Every year since you were eight, you both always tried to one-up the other. Last year, you got Lauren a watch she had been dying to get and for your birthday, she took you to a very extravagant steakhouse, where the prices were outrageous but the experience, very unique.

You had made it downstairs opting for a cup of coffee instead of the whole breakfast fiasco, after all it was getting close to noon. Boston was always bustling during the summer, so maybe going to eat at one of the touristy, but nicer, restaurants wasn’t a good idea. Out of ideas, you scrolled through the internet, hoping to find a way to treat yourself to a nice birthday outing.

About an hour later, still in your deep internet dive, your doorbell rang. Curious, you left your seat and opened the door, shocked at what, or should I say who, was standing there.

“Chris!?”

“Happy Birthday!”

“What… What are you doing here?”

“Lauren sent me. I thought she told you?”

You scoffed at your friend’s sneakiness.

How were you gonna outrace her this time? No clue. You had 17 days to figure that out.

Overwhelmed with excitement, you leaned forward to hug Chris, careful of whatever was in the bag.

When you leaned back from the hug, you couldn't help but quizzically look at the bag, Chris, picking up on your confusion.

“I figured roses were cliche and I know you like ramen so…”

“Chris, how did you know?!” Happily, you took the bag of food, the smell so tantalizing, but leaving Chris at the door, who was chuckling. He strolled to the closet, hanging his bomber jacket and removing his sneakers. You were already in the kitchen, excitedly unpacking all the food, and Chris couldn’t help but smile at your giddiness, as he leaned up against the doorframe.

“To answer your question, sweetheart. I’m observant.” Now, you were at the pantry, grabbing some paper plates, luckily preventing the man from seeing your flustered state.

On the way back to the counter, you discreetly took a sip of water, in hopes of finding your voice. Chris was setting the table with utensils, and you couldn’t help the feeling of domesticity, that you just loved. Mentally, you scolded yourself.

No, he was your friend. Of course he doesn’t feel the same way.

“You ready to eat, honey?”

Chris’s bright smile was almost stunning until you regained your composure and avidly nodded back at him.

There he goes again with the pet names…

The food was absolutely delicious and maybe the best part of your birthday, well, aside from Chris’s company that is. Suddenly, a large, but comforting hand laid on top of yours, causing you to look up from the entrancing meal.

“(y/n), I don’t know how to say this, so I am just gonna go with it.” The redness rising up on his face made you feel warm and fuzzy inside.

He was nervous around you?

In the few seconds before he spoke, your mind went to a thousand different conclusions while your heart was beating faster than a Swedish polka. The concern must’ve shown up on your face because Chris surely noticed it.

“Hon, it’s nothing bad… I just… wanted to say that I like you... A lot.”

Your eyes were as wide as the plates being used and Chris laughed so hard, in typical Chris Evans™ fashion, clutching his chest. The laughter alleviated the nervousness in his body as he got a way better answer than expected.

“Uh… that’s really ironic because I like you too.”

It was a whisper, as you bashfully looked down, but Chris heard it. He immediately stood from his chair, gathering his empty plate, and then yours. With his free hand, Chris placed it on your shoulder, then leaning in close to your ear, kissing it and whispering a sweet something.

“Happy Birthday, Darling.”

After your birthday feast, it was decided that you both needed to relax, especially from scarfing down all the food. You collapsed on the couch, legs curled up, while Chris gently laid his head on your lap. His eyes were closed, yet a smile painted on his face. Leaning back, you sighed in content and lightly ran your fingers through his hair. The man slowly fluttered his eyes open and continued to smile at you with adoration. Looking down, you whispered to him.

“You’re so cute.” and with that, you softly kissed his nose, a large grin on both of your faces.

What better way to spend your birthday than with your best friend, turned boyfriend?

Later that night, after Chris had left, that little matchmaker of a friend, texted you once more.

ok so I ran out of the allotted number of anonymous asks so here’s my entire matchup essay as a submission sorry!! Feel free to delete all the asks I sent so far. -🖤

could I get a matchup w/ one character from each game? I’m nb and pan. I’m extremely impulsive, because in my experience if I don’t act on impulse I’ll just lay in bed and do nothing. I have severe anxiety, and I worry intensely about how people view me. Despite this, I try to express myself via my appearance as much as possible. I dye my hair, get piercings, wear a leather jacket, the whole shabang. Perhaps it’s to make up for the fact that I rarely show emotional vulnerability. I present myself with a mask of self-deprecating jokes and mild interest in everything. I rarely share my interests because in my experience, happiness is the most vulnerable emotion of them all. I’d rather be a negative person than be a person with weakness. However, I’m trying to work on this and better myself. But it’s difficult. Anyway, I have a wide variety of hobbies, including drawing, writing, ukulele, and piano. I also really enjoy singing, but I have stage fright from being bullied. I don’t really do my hobbies for others’ enjoyment anyway. I do them because they make me happy and distract me from my negative thoughts. Making others happy is just a bonus. However, one of my other hobbies, cooking, is different. Seeing the looks of contentment on peoples faces when they like what I make brings joy into my heart. And I’m pretty good at it, if I do say so myself. Around other people, I’m extremely bubbly and not serious at all. I crack jokes whenever appropriate. When I become more comfortable, I also tend to be affectionate, and even flirtatious if I get the other party’s consent. I’m that person in the group chat that says “ilu” all the time. I’m also a bit vulgar. (Understatement of the year). Around an audience that I know will laugh, most of my jokes are about wanting to do something nasty or wanting to die. I also hate change being forced upon me, or really anything out of my control, but I’m trying to better myself. Oof, I feel like I’ve said too much negative stuff about myself, so I’m gonna try and top it off with some positivity. I’m rather articulate, I’m creative, I’m kinda intelligent, and I am always there for my friends when they need to vent. I’m outgoing, though not the best with social skills. Empathy is an issue for me, but I try my best to be morally sound. I also love and care for my pets very much. I try my best to be an activist in the community for issues that mean a lot to me. I fall asleep a lot when I’m not supposed to. Also, I make really good pasta sauce. I love “emo” music and I can tie shoelaces. I’m also stubborn. Anyway, I guess that’s it? hi! You helped me with typing as INFJ. I have a pattern throughout my life of being like a chameleon. If I truly like/admire somebody I more or less unconsciously try to copy their way of being or methods for success. It started when I was a kid and wanted to be better student and by this gain attention from emotionally abusive parent (I tried to be as conscientious as my 'idol' ). It works out only for a while and I'm aware that this isn't the best strategy to win someone's favor so I usually 1

[con’t: copy e.g organization methods not personality traits I envy. Immersing in aura of somebody I admire (fictional or IRL) makes me feel better though I know that it makes me disconnected from reality, in my own bubble. On a daily basis I don’t notice this chameleon behavior, it happens when I’m highly energized, the life and soul of the party, outgoing (Fe kicking in?). Is this trait something to get rid of or it is in the nature of FJs? Should I suppress it when it arise? Is this behavior who I am or is it a camouflage for some deep issue? Would developing Fe help with putting it to end? I have vague awareness of my feelings due to depression and barely know who I am and I’m trying to discover this on therapy however I would appreciate your insight.]

How old are you? I hear very deep confusion, which I’m guessing is a contributing factor to depression. Your understanding of yourself and the consequences of your behavior is superficial, which indicates immature Ni and overindulgence of Fe. You used Fe to cope over and over again and now it’s as though on steroids, so you don’t know what you would look like without it.

When a person is unaware of auxiliary dysfunction, that is, a higher function in the stack, it is usually the case that their ego development was stunted at a very young age, with the result being that they only know to repeat the same patterns of their childhood. Do you understand the harm, the self-violence, of always contorting and devaluing yourself? Generally speaking:

given the choice of being yourself or conforming to a fake image that you believe will be pleasing to others, you consistently choose the latter, which indicates that you don’t really like/accept who you are

the fact that you don’t know who you really are is the direct consequence of always choosing to be someone you’re not, i.e., the longer you do it, the more disconnected from yourself you become, eventually getting lost behind the multiple masks

not knowing who you really are also means not knowing how to make good decisions for the sake of your own personal growth and well-being since you always place higher value on external sources of judgment, and such infjs often struggle with indecisiveness because they can’t hear/trust their own inner guidance

not having good inner guidance means making faulty judgments and decisions that increase the likelihood of serious life mistakes/failures, which can lead to struggles with unhappiness or depression

chronic discontent leads to reckless/destructive Se grip behavior as you become increasingly desperate to fill the void where your self should be

you may end up wasting your life chasing superficial pleasures and immediate comforts, unable to face up to the challenges that would help you grow into a better person

It is not uncommon for infjs to suffer from this problem because of growing up in a social environment that made them feel unloved or inadequate for whatever reason. But the “chameleon” way of life is a short-sighted band-aid that only provides temporary relief. The more you deny the true self and try to replace it with fake images, the more the true self screams out for recognition, and the bigger and bigger the void within feels over time. In other words, the “solution” is only making the problem worse, it is self-sabotaging.

While this coping strategy perhaps allowed you to stay sane in an emotionally abusive environment during childhood, it isn’t healthy to keep doing it in a normal environment as an adult, especially because this fantasy mindset keeps you vulnerable to those who are looking to exploit/manipulate you the same way that happened in childhood. Without enough self-awareness, you keep replaying the role that you had in the old relationship over and over, and someone else can easily step in and assume the abusive parent role without you realizing it until it’s too late.

Since you’re in therapy, I would suggest working on your emotional awareness. Feeling and emotions are an important way to get in touch with yourself and know yourself better. Practice being completely honest about what you really feel, what you really desire, what you really hope for in life. You should also describe this problem to the therapist in as much detail as possible so that they can be aware of it and help you monitor maladaptive thoughts and behavior.
