This is way different than my normal content, but like???
Is anyone else just so tired of scalpers and resellers getting to stuff so quickly?
Every time I find an item I want for my collection, it usually sells out in less than a week, and then 2 weeks later it will appear on Ebay or something for like triple the original price. Even those people who are going into thrift stores and buying stuff and reselling it for 2x the price make me really mad.
Like I get they're trying to make a profit, but??? Can some of us regular collectors have a chance too, please?

Okay. Herr goes, Yu-Gi-Oh cards, because high-school wasn't Rough enough. Dnd books, because I love DMing. Dnd Miniatures, because see previous. Gems, because when you pick up enough rocks some of them end up looking cooler than you innitially expected. Swords, because I like dressing up as a viking and knight and visiting castles. And Space Marines, because apparently I enjoy struggling financially, also some necrons and chaos space marines.
Oh god I have a problem
Because polls get the most engagement I’m making a poll lol
(For the sake of this poll: a collector is anyone who *currently has* a collection of things either physically or digitally that they intentionally acquired which can be grouped together)
Please please please please pleeeeeeeaaaaaaase tell me what you collect and optionally why!!!! (This is doubly true if your collection is related to a regulatory/“special” interest!!!!!!! That’s honestly the only reason I’m making this poll, I am begging youuuuuuuuuuu
Neurodivergent related tags are for reach as I know a lot of neurodiverse people are collectors. I do try my best not to clutter those tags, if anyone has an issue with it please tell me and I’ll remove them

steve owl house as a guard of whiterun manning his post when the owl lady and her two sidekicks show up and start causing chaos. of course. suddenly, a fucking DRAGON shows up and the stakes just got a lot higher. eda tells luz to grab king and RUN, and steve knows why. because nothing can bring down a dragon. technically, hes supposed to be fighting the dragon but what the hell. its a dragon attack, all cards are down. he helps luz and king get away and hide somewhere in the vast plains, probably behind a rock or something. somehow, the guards (and eda) manage to bring the dragon down (probably through some kind of wild card but i dont know what yet) and as luz and king step out from behind the rock to examine the scene, king absorbs the dragons soul and thats the exact point that he comes into his powers

In the cat AU would either guy feel bad if they give reader a particularly bad scratch or bite. I imagine after reader pulling cat!König away from food he gets a good scratch on their face. LOVE YOUR WRITING and have an amazing day !!!
Oh my goodness you are far too sweet! I genuinely cannot express how thankful I am for these lovely comments!
But yes, how would the kitters feel after scratching Owner? Well, the simple answer is: bad. But how bad? That varies.
Horangi is a bit of an ass. He's got a massive ego and in turn justifies all his bad acts. He's not a thief, he's a collector! He isn't loud and obnoxious, he's got a bombastic personality! And if he's trying to bat at you and get your attention but accidentally catches your skin instead of your sleeve? Well then that's just your fault. You should've been staying still instead of pacing nervously in your room. He tried to show you he cared, but you went ahead and made it worse!
Most of the time, Horangi is the one to use claws anyways. He loves to hide around corners and under furniture to attack your feet. He's a brutal beast. But, if he does dig in too far, he'll go off about how you shouldn't be such vulnerable prey. He's trying to make you a better solider! You should be prepared for attack at all times!
After König sits on him for a minute he does relent. He finally admits it was a mistake and yes, of course he feels bad. Why wouldn't he feel bad for hurting you? You're his owner, after all! He loves you!
After an hour (of König forcing him to fess up), he'll pad over and try to play with you. He'll bring over a toy for fetch or some sort of toy to play. If he really got you bad, he'll brush his head against your side and let you scratch his head. Horangi doesn't often like to be pet, but he'll tolerate it to make it up to you.
König is a bit different. König is prone to accidentally scratching, but not because he tries to attack you or swat at you like Horangi. In truth, König is actually a very cuddly sweet cat. He's a bit grungy, but he's a very loving cat. The problem with König is that he's anxious all the time.
When I was young, I had a very nervous cat. I feel bad because I didn't help that cat in any way (I'd always try to play with her and she did not like that) but she was also just naturally an anxious cat. She had a very interesting thing where she never fully sheathed her claws. She was always on edge, so wherever she went you'd hear a little tap tap tap tap tap when she walked on the linoleum floors. She was only ever silent on carpet.
König is much the same. He's always anxious as a cat, so he's always got his claws out a bit. It's so natural for him that he just... forgets. He forgets that he hasn't actually fully retracted his claws. So sometimes he'll playfully bat at you and accidentally leave a scratch or two. Sometimes, he might just be desperate to run away from a bath and accidentally digs in deep into your arm, or you're trying to drag him away from the food and he gets a good scratch in.
He's immediately distraught. He is bending over backwards to try and cuddle you to say sorry after. He genuinely adores you and he can't believe he accidentally hurt his precious owner. He'll often try to lick the wounds and will purposefully force himself to fully retract his claws so he can 'hug' your hands and nuzzle against you. He really goes over the top with apologies.
So, Horangi is a dick, but that's kind of expected of him. König is a big softie that feels terrible, that's also expected. What's not expected is that they actually try to make it up to you. They're both very loving cats, albeit in their own ways.

WIP excerpt for videogeek; Kara gets to Earth on time and the Kents get a two-for-one special on free kids. (( chrono ||non-chrono ))
The rustic little machine whirrs to life, and Ma and Pa both make satisfied sounds and Pa pats its side the same way he does the “kuh-ows” when he’s pleased with them. Kara wonders if it has an AI operating system, but if it does, she hasn’t seen any sign of one. She hasn’t seen a single AI system on this planet at all, in fact. She’s started assuming they’re only used in more developed areas or bigger towns and cities, considering the primitive, bare-bones tech she’s seen so far. She doesn’t even know if Smoll-Veel’s power source is developed enough to run an AI system, much less Ma and Pa’s farm’s power source.
Kara isn’t even certain where Ma and Pa keep their power source; she’s never seen it and actually has no idea what even fuels it. Though she’s almost certain it’s not crystal-based or solar-powered. At least, if there’s a crystal chamber or a sun collector anywhere on the farm, she hasn’t seen any sign of either.
There’s too many things she still doesn’t know about this planet. Too many things she still doesn’t know about the farm, even. She’s still always following Ma or Pa around and following along with what they do. She doesn’t know how to take care of things herself, though, except for just the most basic, unimportant chores that are all the same every day and never actually change, or at least haven’t changed so far, and she doesn’t have the words to ask. Everything’s just–complicated, and so hard, and so hard to understand, and if she doesn’t learn it, if she isn’t good enough . . .
Kal needs her to be good enough. Ma and Pa won’t let them stay long enough to learn more about this planet if she’s not good enough; if she doesn’t learn enough to be actually useful to them.
Most of the time Ma and Pa don’t even bother getting her before they start their work or chores, and she has to catch up with them and insert herself into the middle of things, and then she slows them down, she’s sure, and then she’s an interruption and a problem, and . . . and . . .
She needs to be good enough.
She needs to be better.
“Ma! Ma!” Kal calls, waving his Krypto toy at her, and the word sounds flat and alien in his mouth. He doesn’t even chime for her. He doesn’t really chime at all, when it’s Ma or Pa’s attention he wants. He barely even chimes for her, at this point.
Kara doesn’t understand why that upsets her so much, but it feels the same way as hearing his voice as something so flat and alien. Aunt Lara and Uncle Jor would be disappointed in her, she thinks. Her parents would be disappointed in her.
Kal doesn’t know any Kryptonian words at all, as far as she can tell.

AITA for snapping at my brother over Christmas presents?
My brother and I are both toy collectors as a hobby. I'm not picky and will basically take anything to fill up my collection, while my brother prefers toys of a certain texture because he has vision problems and the texture matters more to him than looks. For Christmas, we each got a toy… but I wasn't a very big fan, and neither was he. Out of curiosity, my brother tried to take a look at my toy, and here's where I might be the asshole - I was already in a grouchy mood because I didn't like the toy, so I growled at him, and he backed off. But, in my defense, it's still MINE, even if I don't like it. He has his own toy, and he barely even plays with it.
In case this is relevant - I'm 7M and my brother is 3M (though everyone treats him like a BABYM. He's a GROWN ASS ADULT.) Here are some photos of us.

I could write a whole lot about my problems with Jack & Joker but instead I'm just going to post a handful of thoughts and questions from after I finished the episode:
Hope and Save were there in the beginning and they're there at the end. But they didn't exist in the middle with the others when everyone else was getting character development. Why did we get so many damn monopoly games but characters at the damn center of the emotional impact at the end of the show didn't get more than 2 seconds?
The show has already said that Joke can only fight well when the show calls for it. Joke literally beat Jack after he escaped prison. Then him and Jack worked together to fight those two dudes during the necklace heist. So Joke should be able to at least hold his own against Carbon for longer than that. I mean, even grandma lasted longer than he did.
Do you know who was there for Joke? All the time? Hoy. Hoy stepped between him and Jack when Jack looked violent. Hoy held him in the hospital and stopped him from hurting himself. Hoy talked to that woman and convinced her to rally the troops when Joke couldn't. Hoy has always forgiven Joke for everything. And doesn't even think he needs to apologize half the time.
To place all that blame on Joke? Joke stole a ring. Joke did not force people to sign literal death contracts. Joke did not create the debts and poverty that the community has to live with. Joke has done nothing but try his best. Joke's actions might have indirectly caused pain but boss's actions directly caused it. Intentionally. So did Carbon's. How is it Joke's fault Toi Ting got hurt? Neither one of them was there to stop Carbon. Joke is probably the reason Toi Ting survived. Because he did get there in time. How long would she have been laying there is she had to wait for Jack?
Jack tried to be a buffer as a debt collector. Hope relished in it. Joke forgave Tattoo for stealing when he shouldn't have. Hope beat Tattoo up for not having money. So. Why is Hope forgiven then Joke isn't? Since when are Jack and Hope on good enough terms to warrant any sort of forgiveness or feel any sense of betrayal? Why does Jack care?
What does Carbon get from helping boss? Is he being paid? Did boss get him out of prison? Does he owe a debt of sorts now? Is he just relishing in being cruel and boss gives him the outlet he wants to do that?

hey..
at what point do collectors opt to turn things from puppets to scrolls? I feel like turning an entire living creature into [a piece of paper] is very complicated, while turning them into simple puppets is easier because they keep all the same parts, just simplified and wood?
It is! It depends on the person's proficiency and understanding of the mechanism regarding when and how they change the creature. Once someone gets good at it, the creature can be transformed into a lifeless object without it dying in the process, and they will move on to more complex and efficient ways.
The way I see it, archiving is a form of information compression and storage—and there is A LOT of information. When looking at Earth creatures we have everything from single-cell bacteria to whales that range up to 100 quadrillion cells, all with different sizes. The smallest single-cell critter is 0.3 μm, while the largest single cell is an ostrich egg that can get to 18 cm. So it's not just noting "a cell"—there's also a lot of information about the cell content, size, the DNA, current water, and oxygen levels, what protein it contains and how much. Then there are spatial dimensions. (While we can consider there being more, especially in fiction, I’m sticking to three; trying to visualize four fills me with frustration and existential dread xD) Every cell has its place in space in relation to the others, and all the contents' relations are also important. If, suddenly, all histones materialize inside a mitochondria instead of the nucleus, we can have a problem. Additionally, physical and chemical processes gotta be considered. There's electricity powering our brains, hearts, running nerves, air in airways traveling to lungs, chemical signals traveling between synapses that also need to be accounted for. So, you have all the contents in space, their vectors, and building blocks. Thats a ton to save. This information has to be compressed to be preserved in an organized manner while also remaining lossless so that when returned to its original shape, it's as it was. Not even mentioning that in intelligent beings, there are also minds to take care of. Jellyfish might be fine after 100 years in a static void, but a human? Yhhhhh.
I think the mechanism would work by saving information in intangible magic and assigning it to a physical medium—be it a statue, doll, book, or scroll. If it is physical and can carry information, it can be used. We can argue the mind is part of the soul, or it is a biochemical process, but the fact is nobody really knows for sure what it is and Im not a theolog, so for the sake of this universe, I'll say it's something that occupies the same space magic does and is influenced by chemical processes, meeeeaning it can also be tricked by them. And the magic.
The first degree of preservation would be spells that only change the material but keep all shapes and info in place. This wouldn't require much thought while executing and could be "automated" or worse, taught to mortals (if they have enough magic to power the spell), like petrification or changing someone into wood, metal, or any other solid material. It's not perfect, if the structure is damaged, the spatial information is damaged too. Breaking is one thing, but imagine if the statue melts.
The next step would be assigning objects with some compression and change, like toys and dolls. I feel like there would need to be a system like a content library, so not every single atom is saved each time, but chemical structures like nucleotides in DNA (the ATGC thingies) would just have a shortcut. Larger repeating patterns could also be assigned their own id to save data, and it would slowly stack up. While things are written in intangible magic form and anchored to the medium, the medium can be somewhat customized, like the decorations the Collector added to the dolls. The mind, running in controlled magic, can also be affected, as we saw with Collie trying to scare them and Luz’s dream. On the spell keeping the preserved critter stable has a link to what shortcut it uses so with countless diffrent worlds and structres it wouldnt mix up.
Then we go further into compression, reducing size and dimensions until we reach a point where one axis is almost entirely removed, and we end up with a scroll. Then there are other things—creatures saved as amber miniatures, snow globes, scrolls, or drawings, sometimes purely to annoy the sibling that has to deal with the creature in unhandy form. A more permanent binding would be in a book that can contain a bunch of different animals. Rebinding for long-term preservation is the Curator’s job.
Looking at Earth creatures, eucariotic life shares ancestry with some ancient bacteria that decided to rebel and started to cooperate, so we share similarities even with distant organisms in some strutures since they come from each other. So when it comes to preserving whole populations with relations, the library of compression doesn’t have to be separate for every single animal or plant. For each section of the archive, there would be a common library of building blocks, and scrolls being somewhat separate carrying the exact instructions for body arrangement and the soul/mind/the part that makes them alive attached.
Next is unpacking the information. I think this requires the ability to interpret and recreate what was saved that mortals lack. While they couldn't really unpetrify others, a collector could (assuming the mind hadn’t deteriorated into a husk). In the case of an automated spell, I think it would result in a very lossy transmutation—like a jpg losing pixels, the creature might lose like heart funtion. The Collector's spell also looked temporary or incomplete since an influx of other types of magic (like in Amity or Raine’s case) was able to push back on it. That might also be why they were conscious in the form they were in. Not meant for long just enough to take them to archive in normal conditions. When a creature is heavily compressed, it needs external force to rebuild, as it's essentially written fully in magic. That’s what I think happened to the Owl Beast. Lilith released it from the medium, but since it wasn’t fully rebuilt, it being a magic form attached itself to a magic source.
SO YEAH, its a process that takes quite a while for them to master and it comes with experience. But when experience is based on life it often makes it hard to practice so those with less empathetic approach master it faster. Thanks for the ask! I was dying to talk about that for such a long time and that was a perfect thing to organise thoughts
