look i know a lot of people don't like the stormblood return to ivalice alliance raids and they're very long quests and they're intentionally annoying and matsuno's writing really isn't the best fit for ffxiv but you have to understand. you have to understand. some of us were once young gay idiots and seeing this

was like getting run over by a freight train. my god. the doomed yaoi of it all. still get chills thinking about it. twenty fucking years of thinking about delita and ramza and finally we get the AU reconciliation timeline to fix their estrangement??? im a mainline game???? unbelievable.

I've been in kind of a slump... but I got to thinking about that awful little man Argath. this post isn't going to be too organized. maybe.

...namely want to talk about how argath has some curious things to share with the heirals though for as much as he resents them.

he and delita are both ambitious and that ambition is fueled by an outside force that is hostile to their existence. for delita it's being someone of common birth in a noble house. the shadow of house beoulve affords him and tietra some protection but does not truly welcome either of them. and for argath, it's a different yet strikingly similar shadow-- the shadow of his own house's cowardice. delita and argath are both aware of these differences, this is what drives their rivalry and eventual conflict... that awareness combined with their different-yet-similar manner of character. argath's actions and words are both foreshadowing and the catalyst that sends delita down the same path argath himself died upon

tietra and argath... it's even more vague but obviously, they both die at zeakden as a result of negligence. by the same guy no less. zalbaag when i get you zalbaag. more importantly, their last and near to last scenes (ignoring deathknight argath) are spent preserving what is ultimately a lie-- not merely that but a lie that ends up only doing them harm (fatally so) when the original intent was to uphold and/or uplift their standing with others. for tietra it's the lie that her peers at the preparatory accepted her-- for the sake of comforting her brother while he goes off to fight military deserters and thieves. for argath it's the lie that if he does what he's 'supposed' to do, he and his family will be reaccepted into the echelon of nobility.

idk... just that all three of these lil fellas dance around in my head a lot more than they probably should. i care them.

Delita Heiral is the yin to Ramza’s yang. He is commoner by birth and works his way up the hierarchy by playing the nobility’s game of using one against the other. Ramza is a noble who refuses the game and is labeled a heretic and loses the right to his heritage. Delita is calculating and plays close attention to what others say and do, he knows the mission he and Ramza will be sent on before they are issued the orders, he knows the names and ranks of the enemies he is sent to fight. Ramza is intuitive and is guided by his conscious, he stops the an interrogation when it gets violent while Delita calmly watches, he’s eager to prove himself in the first battle, Delita urges him to think tactically.

Despite their opposing thought processes their moral compasses align well. They both move to track down the Corpse Brigade without a thought about opposing orders. When they are confronted with evidence that the poor are being exploited for the nobility’s war they both begin to question their roles. When Delita’s sister is kidnapped they switch roles, Delita is understandably emotional and Ramza urges him to think of how to help rather than simply react.

When they are both see that how the world works is far more brutal and impersonal than they believed, they both abandon the life they knew and start again. Both with groups that on paper would be better suited for the other. Delita begins working with an opposing noble house and Ramza with a common mercenary troop. Is it providence that causes them to meet again? Or is it Ramza’s eldest brother trying to keep tabs on him that reveals his plot to control the throne which opens the door for Delita to intervene and begin his ascent?

Delita is on a quest, he will become king and create a world where the evil that happened to him and his sister never happens again. Ramza is on a quest, he will find his sister and save her from the evil that threatening to overtake the world. Delita’s enemies are humans that think they have the right to exploit others for their gain. Ramza’s enemies are monsters that think the same, also they used to be human.

Now are they in love and would totally be fucking if it weren’t for all this bullshit? I think so. I think Daddy Beoulve saw what was going on and pulled the strings to make sure they could be together before they even knew. It’s the kind of world where that kind of relationship world be hush hush and he’s the type on man that wouldn’t care and would want them to be happy. I don’t believe all these parallels and interweaves are coincidental and just means they were a couple of besties.

FFT seeped into my brain again, so here we are for today's drawing.

Originally, it was just Delita and Ramza with Zeakden burning as the only background element, but having solid black everywhere else felt kind of...off. So then I added the little wisps around Ramza.
