west side story - tony finding maria and climbing up to her balcony railing to tell her how much he loves her even though they just met is so satoru coded like actually.
satoru knew he should've gone home hours ago and he had no business on this side of town anyway, he was a sorcerer. but he couldn't stand to go home without knowing if he'd ever see you again. especially not when your peach flavored lip gloss tasted so good.
"it doesn't open?" satoru pulled harder against the shut metal hatch above him with a disappointed expression as he stood on the railing of the balcony underneath him. "I don't have the key." You laughed.
"shit!" the snowy haired boy face palmed and you smiled wide at the profanity, he was so upset over such a little thing. you quickly shut your bedroom window, afraid your aunt was still awake.
cold metal pushed into your legs as you got on your knees to intertwine your fingers with his, your faces close. "i'd use my powers to break it, but I'd just get us both into trouble.." he sighed.
you thought for a minute,"you're a sorcerer?" he nodded. "you'd risk all that to be.. here...!?" he nodded again, pretty blue eyes staring deeply into your own. sorcerers weren't allowed in residential areas, jujutsu isn't always easy to control.
"you're worth defying the whole world." his nice white dress shirt a little dusty and his expensive dress shoes drenched from the dirty rain puddles he walked directly into when he finally found you. âI wanna be with you. I love you,â You laid on the metal now, trying to get as close as possible to him. âI love youâ you whispered back, âI had a feeling that a miracle might happen tonight.. Youâre all Ive prayed for.â
âBut theyâd never accept this satoru. Donât you have that part of your life planned out for you anyway?â to marry the most powerful sorcerer and make baââ
âI donât care about thatâI-I donât want that, they donât matter. I just wanna be with youâ you swear you would almost melt from his words but still shook your head, he was so stubborn, was he even listening?
âAnd itâs not safe,â you continued, your eyebrows furrowed with worry. âI can control itâ Iâll vow to never use jujutsu again if thatâs what scares youâ he countered every doubt you had with a solution, no matter if it was logical or not. âWhat if theyââ
he cut you off, not rudely, more impatient to sort this out with you. âThen letâs run away together if youâre worriedâ somewhere nobody cares what I am or the rules or other bullshit like that. they canât find us if we run away â Iâve seen others do it and theyâre still missing.â he thought lightly about an old friend.
satorus fingers intertwined with you and those âdamned metal barsâ. You were so close to each other you could feel his breath on your cheek. âRun away?âYoure serious?â He nodded and you looked back at your window, your bedroom window â your whole life, and then you looked back to him, your potential new life. âTo where?..Where wonât they find us?â
âAnywhere you want. Iâll run anywhere with youâ

Hadestown and cyclical stories stuck in the brain after watching West side story the other night and thinking about how Romeo and Juliet have a similar story. Not only of doomed lovers but of being told a thousand times, names and bodyâs change but the love remains.
Itâs been asked before but do you think, just maybe theyâre a little tired? Or is it enough to replay the sweet, private moments knowing youâll get them again?
Anyway- They get a double date out of the fucking narrative with Orpheus and Eurydice. No retellings for two years theyâre at the beach!!!đ

I'm about 8 years late with this but one thing in the Civil War dispute I have never seen anyone from either side point out (and I could just be completely wrong on this):
There is no indication Steve actually knew Bucky killed Tony's Parents
Steve knew it was Hydra because, and as far as I am aware ONLY because of Zola's little exposition scene in Winter Soldier where he shows a bunch of newspapers clippings of things Hydra is responsible for, including Howard and Maria Stark's death.
I repeat: things HYDRA is responsible for. So, yes, Cap knew Hydra killed the Starks, and knew Bucky was working for Hydra. That does not mean, because of that little exposition scene, Cap decided, 'oh yes, in the last 70 years Hydra has only had one man doing all their assassinations, so that must mean Bucky killed Howard and Maria.'
The thought it might have been him could have occurred to Steve, but either way, that would be a theory, and not something Steve has any reason to tell Tony.
For further proof, this exchange from Civil War straight after Tony & Steve watched the security footage:
Tony: "Did you know?"
Steve: "I didn't know it was him."
Tony: "Don't give me that shit, Rogers. Did you know?"
Steve: "...Yes."
To me at least, that 'yes' means Steve knew Hydra, as an organisation, killed Stark's parents, and he elected not to tell Tony, which he is shown to have found out in Winter Soldier so we know that. But his initial statement, "I didn't know it was him", we have no evidence wasn't entirely truthful.
(Whether Tony hears that 'yes' as 'yes I knew Bucky killed your parents' or 'yes I knew your parents death wasn't an accident/orchestrated by Hydra' is ...debatable, but either way I can't see any reason to believe Steve meant the latter, especially since he has already said he knew it wasn't Bucky specifically.)
Why didn't Steve tell Tony Hydra killed his parents?
I can think of a few reasons, whatever side of the Civil War divide you are you can probably come up with more:
1. Steve knew Zola was trying to distract Steve and Nat when he showed those newspapers, so was just trying to keep them engaged, and hinting there might be more to the death of an old friend and get Steve emotional would be a great way to do that. Steve might have suspected it was true, but with no actual evidence he didn't want to open Tony's old wounds.
2. The avengers were going after Hydra post-Winter Soldier, and Steve was worried about what Tony might do/how reckless he might be/didn't trust him enough to risk telling him the people they were targeting killed his parents.
3. It was more than 30 years in the past. If Steve didn't know it was Bucky, it would be likely the person who did it (or at least authorised it) was long dead or unfindable (again, 30 years cold case, no evidence except in a bunker in nowhere siberia that Zemo spent a year searching for when he knew exactly what he was trying to find), so there would be no justice to get, so it would be only hurting Tony for no reason.
But the point is there are a lot of reasons Steve wouldn't tell Tony (admittedly a lot aren't very good or wishful thinking, and Steve probably should have said something, but it is a common theme across the MCU that Steve doesn't always have as much faith in Tony as he should (and then sometimes Tony builds Ultron because he got scared and you can understand why Steve might not trust him when emotional), I'm not here to idolise either of them or say either were completely right in this movie, just point out one thing I see a lot of people complain about). A lot of those reasons don't hold if Steve knew that it was Bucky, and we will never know if Steve might have told him if he did, but you can't blame Steve for not telling Tony something he didn't know himself.

Happy Birthday
Summary: It's your birthday and the only person who doesn't seem to be excited about it is you.
Pairing: Bucky Barnes x Reader
Warnings: Mentions of death. Angst. Fluff. Language probably. My poor attempts at being funny.
Word Count: 2.5K
A/N: This story was completely self-indulgent, but I hope someone out there likes it!
Masterlist
Youâve always been very reluctant to celebrate your birthday.
You havenât had a birthday party since you were 12. The following year your mom died a couple of days before and neither you nor your family were in the mood to celebrate anything.
It wasnât by any means unexpected, she had been sick for a few years, but it still hit you hard.
You were the youngest and were far too young when she first got sick to really understand everything going on.
You were 8 and all you really remember is watching your mom get more and more sick until eventually there was nothing more the doctors could do.
Her death hit you hard and you closed yourself off, never talking about it or even crying after the day of her funeral. To this day youâve still never cried, in front of others or even by yourself.
You started exercising to channel all your energy, refusing to do anything more like the therapy your family suggested.Â
When you were 15 you discovered SHIELD and decided you wanted to help others, so you signed up for the SHIELD Academy, working your hardest and pushing yourself to your very limit.
You ended up being not only the youngest cadet ever, but the youngest to actually graduate and then the youngest recruit at SHIELD at only 16 years old.
Natasha was very impressed when she heard about you and took a liking to you, convincing Fury to make you part of her team during her missions and teaching you everything she knows.
Thatâs how you ended up in the Avengers Initiative, not that you felt you didnât deserve it since you know how hard you worked and everything you gave up to work towards this achievement.Â
The team themselves were initially skeptical since you were barely 18 during the battle of New York, but they were quickly proven wrong when they saw how well you handled yourself against the Chitauri.Â
You were devastated when SHIELD fell, but carried on as an Avenger, battling Ultron and then moving to the Compound with the team.
You met the actual Bucky for the first time when you were 22, during the whole Civil War thing with Baron Zemo. Like Natasha, you were on Tonyâs team, fighting mostly Pietro, but the conflict eventually ended.Â
It took Tony some time to get over the whole âBucky killing his parents while brainwashedâ thing, but, as he likes to say, he canât call himself a genius without admitting that Bucky didnât have much of a choice.Â
Thanks to Tonyâs help Shuri was able to find a solution to Buckyâs brainwashing faster than she wouldâve alone, meaning Bucky didnât have to go back into cryo and was pretty quickly cleared to join the team, about a year after the airport battle in Leipzig.
You were warmly accepted by everybody and, the more the team grew the more you felt at home with these people.
And now you wish you could burn down the whole compound because, somehow, Tony convinced you to have a birthday party for the first time in 13 years because, in his words, 'you only turn 25 once'.
Good news is you managed to make him limit the guest list to the team and other people close to you like Maria Hill and Fury. Bad news is youâre still gonna be the center of attention, which you hate.
You couldnât stop Tony from making everyone dress up for the party, and you couldnât stop the team from getting you gifts even though you insisted all you wanted was everyone together and to have fun with them since for the longest time nobody ever even knew when your birthday was.Â
What you didnât realize was that the only person more worried than you about your gifts was Bucky.
Since he joined the team the two of you have gotten close, starting with his first training with the team where he very loudly told Steve about his disbelief that someone as young and small as you could actually be an asset to the team.
You quickly put him in his place by taking him down after less than two minutes of sparring, taking full advantage of his underestimating you because he âdidnât want to hurt a pretty little thing like you.â
Admittedly he was impressed and wasnât shy about letting you know that, while the rest of the team snickered at his initial shock when you pinned him down.
You became friends after that, not as close as youâd like but friends nonetheless.
If you were honest with yourself youâve been harboring a little crush on the supersoldier, but heâs never shown any interest so you resigned yourself to just being his friend.
Something that you did come to treasure, though, is your and Buckyâs late night talks.
It started with you walking in on him in the kitchen on a late night where you couldnât sleep, nothing new to you, but the two of you barely talked other than acknowledging each other.
You took a bottle of water and left.
A couple of days later you ran into him again and you stood there in silence while you made yourself a cup of tea and then left for your room.
A few days later again he was just sitting there and said nothing as you made your tea, except this time you put a cup in front of him and silently took a seat next to him at the counter.
Two nights later when you arrived at the kitchen he was already there with a cup of tea in front of him and one in front of the seat next to him.
You didnât want to assume it was for you, but you took a chance when you noticed it was the cup you always used, a blue mug with Stitch on it that says âLetâs get weirdâ. Your favorite in fact.
You hesitantly sat down next to him and, without you having to ask or without even looking at you, he told you that the nights you stay up late because you canât sleep you tend to be more quiet during the team dinners and while you hang out afterwards.
You didnât say anything in return and just sat there, trying not to overthink how much he seemed to watch you.
But the more nights you spent like that, the more you two talked and you gathered quickly that Bucky is a very observant person, nothing more.
You loved the time you spent together after dark where youâd talk about everything and anything, but come morning it was almost as if it never happened, which you came to accept.
It weirdly made the nights you spent talking even more special, which was almost every night.
But back to the present, youâre currently getting ready with Natasha and Wanda, who know much more than you about hair and makeup and are always happy to help you out with getting ready for Stark parties.Â
You put on the black cocktail dress with rhinestones all over the corset and a slit down the left side, then the three of you make your way to the party room and you take a deep breath before entering.
Everyone is already there, all dressed up in fancy clothes as they all shout âHappy Birthdayâ.
You laugh and say hi to everybody while they all take turns hugging you, thereâs not too many people but everyone important to you is there.
Even Laura and Clintâs kids are there, which you consider a second family at this point, since Laura always did treat you like a daughter.
You hate to admit that it's a nice party.
Knowing you, everyone makes an effort to not put you too much at the center of attention and you just go around talking to your friends like every other party.
Eventually time comes for the cake and, the moment you kind of dreaded, opening the gifts.
Since it's the first birthday you allowed the team to celebrate everyone decided to go all in for your gifts, which you picked up on from the very first gift you open.
Pietro got you a first edition of âThe Picture Of Dorian Grayâ which is your all time favorite book, Wanda and Maria got you a leather jacket and an amazing pair of boots that you knew were expensive because you were all out shopping together when you came across them.
Steve got you a gold heart-shaped locker with a picture of the team inside it, Natasha got you a charm bracelet with a little charm to represent everyone on the team, and Sam got you a cute necklace with your birth stone on it.
When you open Furyâs gift you start laughing since it's a gun, a SIG SAUER P226 to be precise, which is very Fury.
âIt was my first gun when I joined SHIELD.â He says with a smile and you smile back, knowing how much thought he put into this gift.
You open Clintâs gift next, a bow and arrow that he already taught you how to use, and Laura got you a pair of diamond earrings.
Your heart melts when you open Lila, Cooper and Nathanielâs gifts, respectively a friendship bracelet, an Avengers action figure of yourself and a Stitch plushie.
The three of them hug you tightly as you say thank you and now you only have two gifts left, Tonyâs and Buckyâs, and theyâre both little boxes.Â
You open Tonyâs next, thinking itâs some fancy necklace or earring but you frown when you see a car key.
âIs this the key to your car?â you ask Tony, knowing full well youâre holding the key to an Audi R8 Spyder, the car Tonyâs let you borrow so many times youâre now wondering if heâs gifting you his spare set of keys.
âNo.â He says casually âItâs the key to your car.â
Youâre even more confused and simply stare at him with your mouth gaped, not really processing the information.
âY-you⊠You got me a car?!â You almost yell out of shock and everyone else starts laughing at your antics when you start basically jumping up and down and hugging Tony, squealing like a little girl.
âWell, come on, letâs go see it!â Tony says enthusiastically after youâve calmed down, and you get up, just as enthusiastic, but are stopped by Steveâs voice.
âWait, wait. You have one gift left.â He says, picking up the small box and giving it to you. âItâs from Bucky.â
You were so pumped up by the car, you almost forgot about it and completely miss the mischievous look Steve gives Bucky and the murderous glare Bucky gives back.
You also miss Bucky starting to protest before you open his gift, but he instantly shuts up when he sees your face falling the second you open it.
Itâs a small necklace with a blue rose in it, it really looks like something youâd give a little girl more than a 25 year old woman.
You look at it for a minute, running your finger on it before you raise your head and look at Bucky.
The whole room goes silent as they all watch you worriedly, everyone noticing immediately that tears are streaming down your face.
Nobody understands whatâs happening and nobody knows how to react or what to do, itâs like theyâre all frozen by the sight of you being vulnerable for the first time ever.Â
Meanwhile Buckyâs heart is beating so loud heâs sure everyone around him can hear it, and he feels himself starting to panic at the thought of having ruined your birthday with that stupid gift.
Everybody else got you expensive gifts and all he did was get you a small, cheap necklace that reminded him of a story you briefly talked about once on one of your late night talks about a necklace you had as a kid.
He saw it at the mall while looking for a gift for you, remembering the sweet smile you had on your face when you mentioned it and the fleeting sad look he thought he saw when you told him you lost it when you were 12.
He was really proud of himself for that gift, but the more he saw the other gifts you got the more he regretted his choice, especially after Tony gave you a fucking car.
And now you were crying, not saying anything while just looking at him.
He doesnât know what to expect from you at the moment, nobody does, he thinks you might yell, throw his gift back at him, tell him how much you hate it and him.
But you surprise everyone by throwing your arms around Buckyâs neck, hugging him tightly while crying into his shoulder.
You honestly forgot telling Bucky about that story and certainly didnât expect him to remember it, especially since you always got the feeling that he didnât care about your talks as much as you.
You just assumed that come morning he deleted everything you told him to make room for more important things, and you didnât blame him.
But he didnât.
What you didnât tell him about the necklace is that your mom gave it to you because blue roses were her favorite, you had that necklace since you were born but you somehow lost it the day of her funeral.
That day you lost the two most important things in your life and cried yourself to sleep, and that was the last time you allowed yourself to be weak and cry.
Until today.
Bucky hesitantly wraps his arms around you, rubbing your back hoping to get you to calm down. He looks around at the rest of the team, panicking a little and not knowing what to do.
Everyone else is as clueless as he is, never having seen you in such a state before.
Bucky starts apologizing, his heart breaking at the sight of you crying, and he feels horrible that itâs because of him.
You shake your head quickly and pull away a little to look at him, wanting to reassure him youâre not sad or angry but incredibly happy, but words refuse to come. You take a deep breath to calm yourself and finally manage to speak.
âThank you. You have no idea how much this means to me.â Itâs quiet, but itâs something, and itâs enough to make Bucky let out a breath of relief at knowing you donât hate him or his gift.
He brings you back in for another tight hug, almost forgetting about everyone else in the room as you hug him back without hesitation.
Youâre honestly not even embarrassed at crying, all you care about at the moment is Bucky, his arms around you while he lets you bury your face in his neck, like youâve been wanting to do for years now.
âHappy birthday, doll.â He whispers in your ear and, for the first time in 13 years, you really feel like it is.

The Avengers (+) On Gift Giving
Pepper: Absolutely wonderful, as usual. - But seriously: gives very practical, well thought out gifts.
Tony: I refer you to the bunny. Mostly makes or repairs stuff for people.
Thor: Decent at gift giving, but it's usually weapons, alcohol, or something he saw randomly in a shop window that he thinks he heard someone say they wanted. Basically, he gifts based on vibes.
Natasha: Gets something she knows someone wants but won't buy themselves (like a new printer or smth).
Clint: Inside jokes and cringey mugs/t-shirts/etc. are his go to.
Steve: Personalized paintings or things he knows someone specifically wants.
Bruce: Makes gifts unless he thinks of a specific thing for someone.
Peter Parker (yes, I am aware he is Jewish. this does not have to be for Christmas): Goes on one big shopping trip with nothing specific in mind with a list of people. Makes his own cards.
Sam: Depends on the person, but usually he does fun holiday stuff or books. (ex. Christmas tree mugs or personalized ornaments)
Rhodey: Asks people what they want. Sometimes gets things he thinks they need.
Bucky: Ridiculously good at getting exactly what someone wants without them saying anything about it.
T'Challa: Very spot-on gifts, that are very practical. This does not apply to Shuri, who gets memes (interpret that as you will).
Fury: Gift cards and passive-agressive books.
Maria Hill: Sticks to the classics. Socks, chocolate, ornaments, etc.
Coulson: Makes most gifts and cards off of memories and inside jokes. Very personal stuff.

Imagine Nick Fury being stressed the fuck out because all the Avengers are atleast scared of one or two, if not, all modes of transport. We donât think about how much trauma this heroes actually have honestly.
Nick Fury, asking purely out of concern as he sees uncomfortable or concerned looks on the Avengersâs faces: Is there any objections to how we get there? Weâll be traveling by road.
Tony, uncomfortable with cars/ground vehicles after his parents crash and the amount of times he nearly died by cars crashing into him too: *raises his hand*
Stephen, also uncomfortable with ground vehicles because it was the reason his hands are busted up: *raises hand too*
Fury, sighing before suggesting another option: The quinjet?
Bruce, already very uncomfortable with the mention of the quinjet: *raises his hand*
Fury, pinching his nose bridge: How about one of Starkâs planes. It has cloaking tech too.
Steve and Peter being uncomfortable with planes because Steve literally lived under ice for 70+ years and Peter is scared after the vulture accident and his parents died on a plane: *raises hand*
Fury, gripping onto the meeting table tightly to control his emotions: How about a train.
Bucky, extremely uncomfortable with trains(The man literally fell out of one). Steve, having witnessed Bucky fall off the train and is terrified:*raises hand*
Fury looks over to the two agents at the side, noticing how stiff they looked and their faces very close to betraying their emotions of terror, yet did not raise their hands at all: What the hell is wrong with the two of you
Clint and Natasha being uncomfortable and probably having beef with every type of transport known to mankind: *looks away and Nick has already figured out why*
Fury sighs deeply, now having to figure out how the hell is he going to get everyone to walk to their next mission.
Maria Hill coming up beside him to whisper something to Fury: Spin a wheel and whatever mode of transport it lands on, they either suck it up or we sedate them
Thor who only ever travels by the bifrost or quinjet: *visibly confused*

Tonyâs Childhood. Part 1: Identifying facts
In the MCU, Tony sometimes acts like a kid. There is a reason behind every behavior, so I wondered what it was like for him when he was a real kid.
So, the questions of the day: what do we know about Tony's childhood? Did he have one? And, most importantly, how did it affect him?
Letâs first list what we know from the movies:
At age 4 Tony built his first circuit board (IM1)
At age 6 built his first engine (IM1)
Was sent to a boarding school by Howard (IM2)
Cracked the Pentagonâs firewall in high school on a dare (AoU)
Had a nanny until the age of 14 (IM3)
Went to college at 14 (IM1)
Built Dum-E and U when he was there (IM1)
At 17 graduated summa cum laude from MIT (IM1)
Continued his education until his parentsâ death (CW)
Tonyâs genius gave him two things: the brain and the pain. And by the pain, I mean that instead of interacting and bonding with his parents, enjoying life, playing, having fun, making friends, taking care of pets, and all the other things children do to gradually prepare for adulthood and grow up "healthy", he got this list of achievements. That doesnât make a person normal.
Parents
We know his relationship with Howard was complicated. Howard loved him in his own way. He had too many things to do to be a good father: SI, S.H.I.E.L.D., scientific projects, trying to build a better future with clean energy, etc. All good, except when you want your child to love you back. Especially if in the tiny amount of time you spend with him, you donât show him any signs of affection.
What do we know about Maria? Her name, what she looked like, that she played the piano, and died at Winter Soldierâs hand on Dec 16, 1991. Thatâs it. She didnât spend much time with Tony either. Remember, he even had a nanny, instead of a mother. Tony's words about her showed that he loved her, but he didn't talk much about her. Because she wasnât present in his life enough. Why? BecauseâŠ
School
Howard sent Tony to a boarding school.
Hereâs in the S.H.I.E.L.D.s file we have this information about the school:
âPhillips Academy, Andover, MA 1977-1984â
This means he was there from age 7 to 14. Howard sent him to a boarding school when he was SEVEN.
Phillips Academy Andover serves grades 9-12 only (it is a college preparatory school). Thus, either this is a mistake by the creators of the film/file, or Tony, due to his genius, became an exception. Since the early age he was already at school was also mentioned in IM2 tie-in comics, and in Earth-616 that was also 7, we can mark 1977-1984 as valid.
Think about it again: Tony was sent to boarding school in another state when he was 7 years old. He spent another 7 years there, alone, among high school-aged teenagers. No parents around, no peers.
For example, even Hogwarts accepts 11-year-old children, and they live with their peers. Now imagine Harry Potter, at the age of 7, is thrown into a dorm with 7th-year students and locked there. Doesnât make a person normal either, does it?
Nannies and Jarvis
Since Tony was at the boarding school, there are two options for how he could have a nanny (mentioned in IM3) and spend time with Edwin Jarvis:
1) He was at the boarding school with a nanny. There is almost no possibility that the nanny was Edwin Jarvis because Jarvis was Howardâs butler and had other responsibilities.
2) He had a nanny at home in the summer and during short school breaks. In this case, his parents couldnât even give him this little of their precious time.
In any case, he could only see Jarvis at home, a few months a year at most.
Note: There is a date error in IM3, stating Tony was 14 in 1983. This is clearly an error and we can omit this detail.
Bullying
Remember this dialog between Tony and Harley in IM3?
0:45:15 â Harley asks him how he knew he was being bullied at school. Tony doesn't answer. He gives him a non-lethal flash thing to "discourage bullying."
We see that Tony knew exactly what was going on with Harley at school. Because thatâs exactly what happened to him there. Harley reminded him of himself. Brilliant kid with no friends and practically no parents. He was bullied by 9th-12th graders.
If he had a nanny with him at the school, that probably made things even worse. He would be bullied because he has a nanny, and despite he has one to look after him.
In Part 2 we will discuss how all this affected him. Stay tuned.

no because the bone i have to pick with marvel over the development of female characters. why do we only explore their characters when theyâre dead, or going to die. seeing maria in such a personal way with her glasses on and minimal makeup just for her to die? getting black widow when natashas already dead? exploring wandaâs character when they make the switch to villian/anti-hero? not when sheâs trying and sheâs hurting? but steve has three movies, and bucky has an entire backstory, and we just keep adding onto tonyâs long list. these women are constantly a second thought, or a last resort to boost engagement, and iâm sick of it.
