the bonus features for the lives are a short post live interview where they answer a question from their guest artists and moroha, the group that gave us kaigen, asked the bat seiyuu how did they handle the night bat lost
sakakihara-san watched the livestream live and was right there with us lol hands clasped together, begging for that meter to stop higher than mtr’s and the disappointment was immense when it didn’t and wanted to babble about it in their group line chat lmao
takeuchi-san himself thought it was a bummer they didn’t make it to the finals but didn’t feel too strongly about their loss until the night posse was crowned champions. it was then he felt like he actually wanted to win this and was frustrated they were stuck watching lol
hayama-san, too, felt disappointed but, equally so, he also thought that this was a lot of fun lmao!!! from there, he’d been thinking of everything he needs to improve/change to elevate performances and portrayals and it gets him fired up so much so he’s just ready for the next one lmao

Creating an Effective Power BI Dashboard: A Comprehensive Guide
Tumblr media
Introduction to Power BI Power BI is a suite of business analytics tools that allows you to connect to multiple data sources, transform data into actionable insights, and share those insights across your organization. With Power BI, you can create interactive dashboards and reports that provide a 360-degree view of your business.
Step-by-Step Guide to Creating a Power BI Dashboard
1. Data Import and Transformation The first step in creating a Power BI dashboard is importing your data. Power BI supports various data sources, including Excel, SQL Server, Azure, and more.
Steps to Import Data:
Open Power BI Desktop.
Click on Get Data in the Home ribbon.
Select your data source (e.g., Excel, SQL Server, etc.).
Load the data into Power BI.
Once the data is loaded, you may need to transform it to suit your reporting needs. Power BI provides Power Query Editor for data transformation.
Data Transformation:
Open Power Query Editor.
Apply necessary transformations such as filtering rows, adding columns, merging tables, etc.
Close and apply the changes.
2. Designing the Dashboard After preparing your data, the next step is to design your dashboard. Start by adding a new report and selecting the type of visualization you want to use.
Types of Visualizations:
Charts: Bar, Line, Pie, Area, etc.
Tables and Matrices: For detailed data representation.
Maps: Geographic data visualization.
Cards and Gauges: For key metrics and KPIs.
Slicers: For interactive data filtering.
Adding Visualizations:
Drag and drop fields from the Fields pane to the canvas.
Choose the appropriate visualization type from the Visualizations pane.
Customize the visual by adjusting properties such as colors, labels, and titles.
3. Enhancing the Dashboard with Interactivity Interactivity is one of the key features of Power BI dashboards. You can add slicers, drill-throughs, and bookmarks to make your dashboard more interactive and user-friendly.
Using Slicers:
Add a slicer visual to the canvas.
Drag a field to the slicer to allow users to filter data dynamically.
Drill-throughs:
Enable drill-through on visuals to allow users to navigate to detailed reports.
Set up drill-through pages by defining the fields that will trigger the drill-through.
Bookmarks:
Create bookmarks to capture the state of a report page.
Use bookmarks to toggle between different views of the data.
Tumblr media
Different Styles of Power BI Dashboards Power BI dashboards can be styled to meet various business needs. Here are a few examples:
1. Executive Dashboard An executive dashboard provides a high-level overview of key business metrics. It typically includes:
KPI visuals for critical metrics.
Line charts for trend analysis.
Bar charts for categorical comparison.
Maps for geographic insights.
Example:
KPI cards for revenue, profit margin, and customer satisfaction.
A line chart showing monthly sales trends.
A bar chart comparing sales by region.
A map highlighting sales distribution across different states.
2. Sales Performance Dashboard A sales performance dashboard focuses on sales data, providing insights into sales trends, product performance, and sales team effectiveness.
Example:
A funnel chart showing the sales pipeline stages.
A bar chart displaying sales by product category.
A scatter plot highlighting the performance of sales representatives.
A table showing detailed sales transactions.
3. Financial Dashboard A financial dashboard offers a comprehensive view of the financial health of an organization. It includes:
Financial KPIs such as revenue, expenses, and profit.
Financial statements like income statement and balance sheet.
Trend charts for revenue and expenses.
Pie charts for expense distribution.
Example:
KPI cards for net income, operating expenses, and gross margin.
A line chart showing monthly revenue and expense trends.
A pie chart illustrating the breakdown of expenses.
A matrix displaying the income statement.
Best Practices for Designing Power BI Dashboards To ensure your Power BI dashboard is effective and user-friendly, follow these best practices:
Keep it Simple:
Avoid cluttering the dashboard with too many visuals.
Focus on the most important metrics and insights.
2. Use Consistent Design:
Maintain a consistent color scheme and font style.
Align visuals properly for a clean layout.
3. Ensure Data Accuracy:
Validate your data to ensure accuracy.
Regularly update the data to reflect the latest information.
4. Enhance Interactivity:
Use slicers and drill-throughs to provide a dynamic user experience.
Add tooltips to provide additional context.
5. Optimize Performance:
Use aggregations and data reduction techniques to improve performance.
Avoid using too many complex calculations.
Conclusion Creating a Power BI dashboard involves importing and transforming data, designing interactive visuals, and applying best practices to ensure clarity and effectiveness. By following the steps outlined in this guide, you can build dashboards that provide valuable insights and support data-driven decision-making in your organization. Power BI’s flexibility and range of visualizations make it an essential tool for any business looking to leverage its data effectively.

Red Lobster was killed by private equity, not Endless Shrimp
Tumblr media
For the rest of May, my bestselling solarpunk utopian novel THE LOST CAUSE (2023) is available as a $2.99, DRM-free ebook!
Tumblr media
A decade ago, a hedge fund had an improbable viral comedy hit: a 294-page slide deck explaining why Olive Garden was going out of business, blaming the failure on too many breadsticks and insufficiently salted pasta-water:
https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/940944/000092189514002031/ex991dfan14a06297125_091114.pdf
Everyone loved this story. As David Dayen wrote for Salon, it let readers "mock that silly chain restaurant they remember from their childhoods in the suburbs" and laugh at "the silly hedge fund that took the time to write the world’s worst review":
https://www.salon.com/2014/09/17/the_real_olive_garden_scandal_why_greedy_hedge_funders_suddenly_care_so_much_about_breadsticks/
But – as Dayen wrote at the time, the hedge fund that produced that slide deck, Starboard Value, was not motivated by dissatisfaction with bread-sticks. They were "activist investors" (finspeak for "rapacious assholes") with a giant stake in Darden Restaurants, Olive Garden's parent company. They wanted Darden to liquidate all of Olive Garden's real-estate holdings and declare a one-off dividend that would net investors a billion dollars, while literally yanking the floor out from beneath Olive Garden, converting it from owner to tenant, subject to rent-shocks and other nasty surprises.
They wanted to asset-strip the company, in other words ("asset strip" is what they call it in hedge-fund land; the mafia calls it a "bust-out," famous to anyone who watched the twenty-third episode of The Sopranos):
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bust_Out
Starboard didn't have enough money to force the sale, but they had recently engineered the CEO's ouster. The giant slide-deck making fun of Olive Garden's food was just a PR campaign to help it sell the bust-out by creating a narrative that they were being activists* to save this badly managed disaster of a restaurant chain.
*assholes
Starboard was bent on eviscerating Darden like a couple of entrail-maddened dogs in an elk carcass:
https://web.archive.org/web/20051220005944/http://alumni.media.mit.edu/~solan/dogsinelk/
They had forced Darden to sell off another of its holdings, Red Lobster, to a hedge-fund called Golden Gate Capital. Golden Gate flogged all of Red Lobster's real estate holdings for $2.1 billion the same day, then pissed it all away on dividends to its shareholders, including Starboard. The new landlords, a Real Estate Investment Trust, proceeded to charge so much for rent on those buildings Red Lobster just flogged that the company's net earnings immediately dropped by half.
Dayen ends his piece with these prophetic words:
Olive Garden and Red Lobster may not be destinations for hipster Internet journalists, and they have seen revenue declines amid stagnant middle-class wages and increased competition. But they are still profitable businesses. Thousands of Americans work there. Why should they be bled dry by predatory investors in the name of “shareholder value”? What of the value of worker productivity instead of the financial engineers?
Flash forward a decade. Today, Dayen is editor-in-chief of The American Prospect, one of the best sources of news about private equity looting in the world. Writing for the Prospect, Luke Goldstein picks up Dayen's story, ten years on:
https://prospect.org/economy/2024-05-22-raiding-red-lobster/
It's not pretty. Ten years of being bled out on rents and flipped from one hedge fund to another has killed Red Lobster. It just shuttered 50 restaurants and declared Chapter 11 bankruptcy. Ten years hasn't changed much; the same kind of snark that was deployed at the news of Olive Garden's imminent demise is now being hurled at Red Lobster.
Instead of dunking on free bread-sticks, Red Lobster's grave-dancers are jeering at "Endless Shrimp," a promotional deal that works exactly how it sounds like it would work. Endless Shrimp cost the chain $11m.
Which raises a question: why did Red Lobster make this money-losing offer? Are they just good-hearted slobs? Can't they do math?
Or, you know, was it another hedge-fund, bust-out scam?
Here's a hint. The supplier who provided Red Lobster with all that shrimp is Thai Union. Thai Union also owns Red Lobster. They bought the chain from Golden Gate Capital, last seen in 2014, holding a flash-sale on all of Red Lobster's buildings, pocketing billions, and cutting Red Lobster's earnings in half.
Red Lobster rose to success – 700 restaurants nationwide at its peak – by combining no-frills dining with powerful buying power, which it used to force discounts from seafood suppliers. In response, the seafood industry consolidated through a wave of mergers, turning into a cozy cartel that could resist the buyer power of Red Lobster and other major customers.
This was facilitated by conservation efforts that limited the total volume of biomass that fishers were allowed to extract, and allocated quotas to existing companies and individual fishermen. The costs of complying with this "catch management" system were high, punishingly so for small independents, bearably so for large conglomerates.
Competition from overseas fisheries drove consolidation further, as countries in the global south were blocked from implementing their own conservation efforts. US fisheries merged further, seeking economies of scale that would let them compete, largely by shafting fishermen and other suppliers. Today's Alaskan crab fishery is dominated by a four-company cartel; in the Pacific Northwest, most fish goes through a single intermediary, Pacific Seafood.
These dominant actors entered into illegal collusive arrangements with one another to rig their markets and further immiserate their suppliers, who filed antitrust suits accusing the companies of operating a monopsony (a market with a powerful buyer, akin to a monopoly, which is a market with a powerful seller):
https://www.classaction.org/news/pacific-seafood-under-fire-for-allegedly-fixing-prices-paid-to-dungeness-crabbers-in-pacific-northwest
Golden Gate bought Red Lobster in the midst of these fish wars, promising to right its ship. As Goldstein points out, that's the same promise they made when they bought Payless shoes, just before they destroyed the company and flogged it off to Alden Capital, the hedge fund that bought and destroyed dozens of America's most beloved newspapers:
https://pluralistic.net/2021/10/16/sociopathic-monsters/#all-the-news-thats-fit-to-print
Under Golden Gate's management, Red Lobster saw its staffing levels slashed, so diners endured longer wait times to be seated and served. Then, in 2020, they sold the company to Thai Union, the company's largest supplier (a transaction Goldstein likens to a Walmart buyout of Procter and Gamble).
Thai Union continued to bleed Red Lobster, imposing more cuts and loading it up with more debts financed by yet another private equity giant, Fortress Investment Group. That brings us to today, with Thai Union having moved a gigantic amount of its own product through a failing, debt-loaded subsidiary, even as it lobbies for deregulation of American fisheries, which would let it and its lobbying partners drain American waters of the last of its depleted fish stocks.
Dayen's 2020 must-read book Monopolized describes the way that monopolies proliferate, using the US health care industry as a case-study:
https://pluralistic.net/2021/01/29/fractal-bullshit/#dayenu
After deregulation allowed the pharma sector to consolidate, it acquired pricing power of hospitals, who found themselves gouged to the edge of bankruptcy on drug prices. Hospitals then merged into regional monopolies, which allowed them to resist pharma pricing power – and gouge health insurance companies, who saw the price of routine care explode. So the insurance companies gobbled each other up, too, leaving most of us with two or fewer choices for health insurance – even as insurance prices skyrocketed, and our benefits shrank.
Today, Americans pay more for worse healthcare, which is delivered by health workers who get paid less and work under worse conditions. That's because, lacking a regulator to consolidate patients' interests, and strong unions to consolidate workers' interests, patients and workers are easy pickings for those consolidated links in the health supply-chain.
That's a pretty good model for understanding what's happened to Red Lobster: monopoly power and monopsony power begat more monopolies and monoposonies in the supply chain. Everything that hasn't consolidated is defenseless: diners, restaurant workers, fishermen, and the environment. We're all fucked.
Decent, no-frills family restaurant are good. Great, even. I'm not the world's greatest fan of chain restaurants, but I'm also comfortably middle-class and not struggling to afford to give my family a nice night out at a place with good food, friendly staff and reasonable prices. These places are easy pickings for looters because the people who patronize them have little power in our society – and because those of us with more power are easily tricked into sneering at these places' failures as a kind of comeuppance that's all that's due to tacky joints that serve the working class.

Nintendo Reveals Super Mario Bros. Wonder Is Fastest-Selling Game In The Series
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yesterday, we learned that the Nintendo Switch had surpassed 132 million units sold on the heels of great results from recent first-party releases like The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and Pikmin 4. Now, Nintendo has revealed that its latest first-party release, Super Mario Bros. Wonder, is the fastest-selling game in the Super Mario series. It achieved this record after selling more than 4.3 million units in two weeks.
“Super Mario Bros. Wonder, which was released worldwide on October 20, achieved global cumulative sales of 4.3 million units within the first two weeks,” Nintendo’s financial briefing reads. “This makes it the fastest-selling Super Mario related title. Super Mario related titles also tend to sell consistently over a long period of time. We anticipate this title will be an appealing choice for consumers during the upcoming holiday season and will continue to sell next year onwards as well.”
[embedded content]
Nintendo highlights the caveat that it has only been collecting sell-through data since the Nintendo DS and Wii generation, meaning Super Mario Bros. Wonder is the fastest-selling Super Mario game since collection began during the Wii and DS generation. This could mean prior Super Mario games sold faster, but that remains unknown. Nonetheless, 4.3 million copies sold in two weeks is an impressive feat for the first new entry in the side-scrolling Super Mario series in 11 years.
Nintendo attributes part of the game’s sales success to The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which hit theaters in April and quickly achieved the best opening of all time for an animated film. It comes as no surprise that Nintendo is following that success with a live-action Legend of Zelda movie, which it announced yesterday.
[embedded content]
Alongside news of Super Mario Bros. Wonder’s sales, Nintendo also highlights that the Mario success will likely continue soon with upcoming Mario-related releases like this month’s Super Mario RPG remake, Mario vs. Donkey Kong, its remake of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, Princess Peach Showtime, and its HD remaster of Luigi’s Mansion 2.
For more, read Game Informer’s Super Mario Bros. Wonder review and then check out the strange reward for beating Super Mario Bros. Wonder’s hardest challenge. Read Game Informer’s Super Mario Bros. Wonder Flower Coins and Wonder Seeds guide after that and then check out our Super Mario Bros. Wonder Search Party guide.

"Minnetonka first started selling its “Thunderbird” moccasins in 1965. Now, for the first time, they’ve been redesigned by a Native American designer.
It’s one step in the company’s larger work to deal with its history of cultural appropriation. The Minneapolis-based company launched in the 1940s as a small business making souvenirs for roadside gift shops in the region—including Native American-inspired moccasins, though the business wasn’t started or run by Native Americans. The moccasins soon became its biggest seller.
Tumblr media
[Photo: Minnetonka]
Adrienne Benjamin, an Anishanaabe artist and community activist who became the company’s “reconciliation advisor,” was initially reluctant when a tribal elder approached her about meeting with the company. Other activists had dismissed the idea that the company would do the work to truly transform. But Benjamin agreed to the meeting, and the conversation convinced her to move forward.
“I sensed a genuine commitment to positive change,” she says. “They had really done their homework as far as understanding and acknowledging the wrong and the appropriation. I think they knew for a long time that things needed to get better, and they just weren’t sure what a first step was.”
Tumblr media
Pictured: Lucie Skjefte and son Animikii [Photo: Minnetonka]
In 2020, Minnetonka publicly apologized “for having benefited from selling Native-inspired designs without directly honoring Native culture or communities.” It also said that it was actively recruiting Native Americans to work at the company, reexamining its branding, looking for Native-owned businesses to partner with, continuing to support Native American nonprofits, and that it planned to collaborate with Native American artists and designers.
Benjamin partnered with the company on the first collaboration, a collection of hand-beaded hats, and then recruited the Minneapolis-based designer Lucie Skjefte, a citizen of the Red Lake Nation, who designed the beadwork for another moccasin style and a pair of slippers for the brand. Skjefte says that she felt comfortable working with the company knowing that it had already done work with Benjamin on reconciliation. And she wasn’t a stranger to the brand. “Our grandmothers and our mothers would always look for moccasins in a clutch kind of situation where they didn’t have a pair ready and available to make on their own—then they would buy Minnetonka mocs and walk into a traditional pow wow and wear them,” she says. Her mother, she says, who passed away in 2019, would have been “immensely proud” that Skjefte’s design work was part of the moccasins—and on the new version of the Thunderbird moccasin, one of the company’s top-selling styles.
Tumblr media
[Photo: Minnetonka]
“I started thinking about all of those stories, and what resonated with me visually,” Skjefte says. The redesign, she says, is much more detailed and authentic than the previous version. “Through the redesign and beading process, we are actively reclaiming and reconnecting our Animikii or Thunderbird motif with its Indigenous roots,” she says. Skjefte will earn royalties for the design, and Minnetonka will also separately donate a portion of the sale of each shoe to Mni Sota Fund, a nonprofit that helps Native Americans in Minnesota get training and capital for home ownership and entrepreneurship.
Some companies go a step farther—Manitobah Mukluks, based in Canada, has an Indigenous founder and more than half Indigenous staff. (While Minnetonka is actively recruiting more Native American workers, the company says that employees self-report race and it can’t share any data about its current number of Indigenous employees.) Beyond its own line of products, Manitobah also has an online Indigenous Market that features artists who earn 100% of the profit for their work.
White Bear Moccasins, a Native-owned-and-made brand in Montana, makes moccasins from bison hide. Each custom pair can take six to eight hours to make; the shoes cost hundreds of dollars, though they can also be repaired and last as long as a lifetime, says owner Shauna White Bear. In interviews, White Bear has said that she wants “to take our craft back,” from companies like Minnetonka. But she also told Fast Company that she doesn’t think that Minnetonka, as a family-owned business, should have to lose its livelihood now and stop making moccasins.
The situation is arguably different for other fashion brands that might use a Native American symbol—or rip off a Native American design completely—on a single product that could easily be taken off the market. Benjamin says that she has also worked with other companies that have discontinued products.
She sees five steps in the process of reconciliation. First, the person or company who did wrong has to acknowledge the wrong. Then they need to publicly apologize, begin to change behavior, start to rebuild trust, and then, eventually, the wronged party might take the step of forgiveness. Right now, she says, Minnetonka is in the third phase of behavior change. The brand plans to continue to collaborate with Native American designers.
The company can be an example to others on how to listen and build true relationships, Benjamin says. “I think that’s the only way that these relationships are going to get any better—people have to sit down and talk about it,” she says. “People have to be real. People have to apologize. They have to want to reconcile with people.”
The leadership at Minnetonka can also be allies in pushing other companies to do better. “My voice is important at the table as an Indigenous woman,” Benjamin says. “Lucie’s voice is important. But at tables where there’s a majority of people that aren’t Indigenous, sometimes those allies’ voices are more powerful in those spaces, because that means that they’ve signed on to what we’re saying. The power has signed on to moving forward and we agree with ‘Yes, this was wrong.’ That’s the stuff that’s going to change [things] right there.”"

Generative AI Policy (February 9, 2024)
Tumblr media
As of February 9, 2024, we are updating our Terms of Service to prohibit the following content:
Images created through the use of generative AI programs such as Stable Diffusion, Midjourney, and Dall-E.
This post explains what that means for you. We know it’s impossible to remove all images created by Generative AI on Pillowfort. The goal of this new policy, however, is to send a clear message that we are against the normalization of commercializing and distributing images created by Generative AI. Pillowfort stands in full support of all creatives who make Pillowfort their home. Disclaimer: The following policy was shaped in collaboration with Pillowfort Staff and international university researchers. We are aware that Artificial Intelligence is a rapidly evolving environment. This policy may require revisions in the future to adapt to the changing landscape of Generative AI.
-
Why is Generative AI Banned on Pillowfort?
Our Terms of Service already prohibits copyright violations, which includes reposting other people’s artwork to Pillowfort without the artist’s permission; and because of how Generative AI draws on a database of images and text that were taken without consent from artists or writers, all Generative AI content can be considered in violation of this rule. We also had an overwhelming response from our user base urging us to take action on prohibiting Generative AI on our platform.
-
How does Pillowfort define Generative AI?
As of February 9, 2024 we define Generative AI as online tools for producing material based on large data collection that is often gathered without consent or notification from the original creators.
Generative AI tools do not require skill on behalf of the user and effectively replace them in the creative process (ie - little direction or decision making taken directly from the user). Tools that assist creativity don't replace the user. This means the user can still improve their skills and refine over time.
For example: If you ask a Generative AI tool to add a lighthouse to an image, the image of a lighthouse appears in a completed state. Whereas if you used an assistive drawing tool to add a lighthouse to an image, the user decides the tools used to contribute to the creation process and how to apply them.
Examples of Tools Not Allowed on Pillowfort: Adobe Firefly* Dall-E GPT-4 Jasper Chat Lensa Midjourney Stable Diffusion Synthesia
Example of Tools Still Allowed on Pillowfort:
AI Assistant Tools (ie: Google Translate, Grammarly) VTuber Tools (ie: Live3D, Restream, VRChat) Digital Audio Editors (ie: Audacity, Garage Band) Poser & Reference Tools (ie: Poser, Blender) Graphic & Image Editors (ie: Canva, Adobe Photoshop*, Procreate, Medibang, automatic filters from phone cameras)
*While Adobe software such as Adobe Photoshop is not considered Generative AI, Adobe Firefly is fully integrated in various Adobe software and falls under our definition of Generative AI. The use of Adobe Photoshop is allowed on Pillowfort. The creation of an image in Adobe Photoshop using Adobe Firefly would be prohibited on Pillowfort.
-
Can I use ethical generators?
Due to the evolving nature of Generative AI, ethical generators are not an exception.
-
Can I still talk about AI?
Yes! Posts, Comments, and User Communities discussing AI are still allowed on Pillowfort.
-
Can I link to or embed websites, articles, or social media posts containing Generative AI?
Yes. We do ask that you properly tag your post as “AI” and “Artificial Intelligence.”
-
Can I advertise the sale of digital or virtual goods containing Generative AI?
No. Offsite Advertising of the sale of goods (digital and physical) containing Generative AI on Pillowfort is prohibited.
-
How can I tell if a software I use contains Generative AI?
A general rule of thumb as a first step is you can try testing the software by turning off internet access and seeing if the tool still works. If the software says it needs to be online there’s a chance it’s using Generative AI and needs to be explored further.
You are also always welcome to contact us at [email protected] if you’re still unsure.
-
How will this policy be enforced/detected?
Our Team has decided we are NOT using AI-based automated detection tools due to how often they provide false positives and other issues. We are applying a suite of methods sourced from international universities responding to moderating material potentially sourced from Generative AI instead.
-
How do I report content containing Generative AI Material?
If you are concerned about post(s) featuring Generative AI material, please flag the post for our Site Moderation Team to conduct a thorough investigation. As a reminder, Pillowfort’s existing policy regarding callout posts applies here and harassment / brigading / etc will not be tolerated.
Any questions or clarifications regarding our Generative AI Policy can be sent to [email protected].
