I love Henrietta. She has such a vivid and powerful internal world that informs her and carries her forward with such wisdom. I imagine a lot of children are that way, but that ability gets crushed out of them as the weight of the world and its many sins presses upon them. In the sleepy town of Torminster, I suspect that she will not encounter such a hindrance and grow up to be much like Grandfather.

I also love Grandfather. I've known some people like him, and their intuition is not just crazy but also crazy good. We need more people like him to make things interesting and to make uncanny sense out of this senseless world.

I get Jocelyn. I get past trauma jading present outlook. Practical to a fault, but not so stubborn ignore Henrietta or Grandfather. It is interesting that he noticed the paths that everybody at the church festival took to embrace faith. It's going to be interesting to see how he turns out.

Has anyone ever mentioned how ironic it is that Nico, the first demigod character to be confirmed gay in cannon and, the one who came from a time period when, "if you're gay, you're going to hell!" was a popular catchphrase especially where he was born; has literally gone to hell twice??

And that he's literally the son of Hades, the god of the underworld. Where the Greek equivalent of hell, is?

I was thinking about this:

"Fen'Harel is said to have spent centuries in a far corner of the earth after his great deception, hugging himself and giggling madly in glee."

And of course things get changed over time. The Evanuris became kind gods, the vallaslin became a dedication to one of them instead of a slave marking, etc., etc..

And it led me to think that perhaps he wasn't giggling madly in glee. Perhaps he was laughing in the way you do when you succeeded at something you didn't expect. The kind of laughing that turns into bitter tears, sobs that wrack your body, the laughing that brings up all your sadness and brings it to the surface.

That kind of sadness that makes you hug yourself to self-soothe because you successfully did what you set out to do but it means losing everything you knew, the entire world you loved, the connection you had to the Fade and magic and the spirit friends you have there.

In order to save the world, you had to destroy the one you knew and loved and needed to save.

Imagine the grief he felt in that moment.
