General Fandom Terminology

Do you want to be more involved in fandom, but you don’t know all the crazy words fandoms use? Below is a collection of common fandom terms and their definitions. 

Fandom - The collective fans of a piece of media (including TV shows, movies, books, comics, video games, etc.).

Fanfiction/fanfic/fic - a fictional work created for free by fans of an existing media about the characters &/or world of that media.

AO3 (An Archive Of Our Own) - a website that acts as an archive for fanfiction, run by the Organization for Transformative Works (OTW), a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving the history of fanworks and fan culture. As an archive, AO3 is not a social media platform, and it does not have an algorithm. Instead, it has a complex search engine that allows users to filter fics based on fandoms, characters, relationships, ratings, warnings, and other tags.

Zine - an amateur-created magazine. In fandom spaces, zines contain fan content like fanfiction or fanart that is made by and for fans of a particular fandom. 

Canon - a term adopted by fandom to mean the events and elements of the original media or text, exactly as they were published. 

Headcanon - an idea that a fan imagines to be true despite not being supported by evidence from the original media. 

Fanon - ideas introduced by the fandom that are not part of the original media but that are canon-compliant and widely treated as canon by members of the fandom community. An idea becomes fanon based on its longevity in the fandom. 

Blorbo (originally “Blorbo from my shows”) - your favorite character. The term comes from a tumblr post complaining about people constantly tagging their favorite characters on unrelated content. 

Poor little meow meow - a miserable, pathetic, problematic character, used as a term of endearment. 

Cinnamon Roll - a sweet, kindhearted character. The term comes from a 2014 article title from The Onion: “Beautiful Cinnamon Roll Too Good For This World, Too Pure.”

Shipping - a variation on the word “relationship,” this is the act of thinking that two characters would be good together in a romantic relationship and wanting them to get together.  

Ship - a desired relationship between two characters. 

Ship name - a portmanteau combination of the names of two characters in a ship. This could be first or last names, aliases, or occasionally a descriptive word/phrase. Examples of ship names are “Steddie” (Steve Harrington/Eddie Munson from “Stranger Things”), “Sleeping Warrior” (Aurora/Mulan in “Once Upon A Time”), and “Ineffable Husbands” (Aziraphale/Crowley from “Good Omens”).

Slash - a fanfiction in which characters of the same sex are in a romantic or sexual relationship. Slash often refers to two men, while femslash refers to two women. The term comes from the backslash symbol used to tag two characters as being in a romantic or sexual relationship, as in [Character 1]/[Character 2].

Anti - a person who is vocally against a particular ship and harasses people who create content for that ship. (Don’t do this.)

OTP (one true pairing) - your favorite ship. 

OT3 - your favorite polyamorous ship. If the polyamorous ship contains more than three characters, OT4, OT5, etc. are used. 

NOTP - pronounced “no-T-P,” this is a pairing or ship that you personally dislike. 

Plot armor - a character is said to have plot armor when they are too important to the story to die. 

DLDR (Don’t Like, Don’t Read) - a general piece of fandom advice that if you don’t like the content described in the tags, don’t read the fic, and especially don’t complain to the author that you don’t like the tagged material.

SALS (Ship And Let Ship) - A fandom rule that says not to harass people who like ships that you don’t like. 

YKINMKATO [Your Kink Is Not My Kink (And That’s Ok)] - A fandom rule that says not to dissuade or harass people who create kink content, or content more generally, that you don’t like. Sometimes referred to as “kinktomato” because of how the acronym looks. 

Beta reader - a proofreader or editor of a fanfic who is not the author of the fic.

Rpg Anon: ok first of all, Avalon chapter might have been one of the best chapters of FGO period because of how hateful terrible everyone was. every other chapter previous was basically bad guy doing immoral extremist things to save everyone for selfish purposes. This chapter was VERY different. regardless, I'm gonna have to put this in an imaginary scenario so that you could possibly understand the viewpoint. I'm gonna use DR characters for your understanding.

now imagine if you are essentially Makoto Naegi pre-this blog. You're a hopeful positive cinnamon roll. You were raised by a loving family who taught you about love and peace. Also, you were literally magically summoned to this world to be the chosen one, The Savior. Great, right? No. One out of three Junko's I will bring up (yes there's like three people I can call an aspect of Junko) commands an army to murder everyone you love. Why? She felt out shadowed by their brightness. No one could be more lovely and beautiful than her. Goddammit. Welp, now you have only yourself. So now you venture to the outside world to do your duty as The Savior as do heroic things! ...sigh...

Ok so mod, i know that most of these blog anons have been a positive community but I know that some anons have been absolute horrible motherfuckers. I want you to think back to every single toxic ask you've been sent. Hold on to those emotions. Now think back to that post you made about JoCat. think back to all those people you called out. hold on to those emotions. How would you react if I said basically 99% of this world's population was these assholes? GOD FUCKING DAMMIT.

For 4000 straight years, you become a folk hero saving the day only to be hunted down by those ungrateful assholes every single day. To put it simply, this fuckwads can be described as horrifically "pure". It's a joyous day! ...until the very next day where everyone fucking killed all your friends, burned everything to the ground, poisoned the king, and so on. Chaos is back in business. All your hard work down the drain. Why did they do this? Cuz they just didn't like it. "How dare they be better than us?", "This is not equality.", "I don't like their outfits." etc. And at this point, YOU FUCKING SNAP. You should have never tried to save these assholes. YOU SHOULD HAVE RULED THEM.

Congrats. you are now the antagonist of this Avalon chapter.

So imagine this. You, makoto naegi, essentially come Izuru Kamakura out of sheer spite and hatred for everyone. And you used all your untapped magical power to dominate and beat every single person in this world to a pulp and make them all submit to you. You become a straight up cold blooded heartless tyrant forcing everyone to suffer abuse and obey your iron fist. AND FOR ONCE. ONCE IN 2000 YEARS. there is FINALLY peace and order. FINALLY.

Oh and here's a kicker. Imagine if one of those motherfuckers came up to you and asked, "Why are you doing this? What did we do to deserve all of this? Why are you tormenting us instead of saving us? Weren't you supposed to be The Savior?"

Along the way, you meet 3 people.

One who is basically Mikan's backstory times a million: A "vampiric" immortal child who has been abused by everyone for the past 4000 years everyday for being different and always asking for love. They straight up murdered, ripped her apart, violated, and did so many unspeakable things to her every day. And she keeps resurrecting cuz she's immortal and just desperately wants to be loved. You save her and adopt her as your daughter out of safety for her.

A second who is basically Sakura, but cursed to straight up DEVOUR anyone she falls in love with. And yes, this "sakura" is already traumatized after eating sick "Kenshiro". You mind wipe her so she doesn't have to suffer.

And a third person who is basically Mukuro who works under that Junko character I mentioned and is abused by her. However, to put it simply, "mukuro" can't bring herself to refuse her commands cuz 1. she is indebted to her and 2. if something happens to "junko", "mukuro" will, I kid you not, lose her identity and become The Dragon of Destruction and burn everything with lasers of doom.

Okay let's just get to the point. WELP. despite your best efforts, everything still goes to shit cuz of all of those stupid assholes. They backstab you after murdering your daughter, desecrating her corpse, and tossing it at your feet to distract you. "Sakura" eventually regains her memories and becomes a monster that needs to put down. and "junko" does something overly ambitious that forces "mukuro" to have no choice but resort to the nuclear option, regretting having betrayed everyone and in grief that she is becoming something that will doom the world. All those assholes are running amok and doing stupid horrible things all over too.

The world becomes so even more horrible than it ever was, 2nd "junko" becomes so disgusted by how horrible it is that she actually helps the protagonist of FGO. Wow.

Eventually the protag and his team defeat all the villains and save mostly everyone. And that's when 3rd Junko swoops in, summons basically a giant housefly dragon blackhole thing, and literally eats up the land and kills everyone. And Honestly, GOOD FUCKING RIDDANCE. Fuck all those bastards.

And that was basically a somewhat summary of what happened in Avalon. I hate all those motherfucking assholes. Everyone in the past worlds were nice and honorable. these fuckers all deserve to die and suffer in hell forever. I know I kinda didn't explain well enough but i hope you understand. srry if any of this was tmi or just awkward for you, mod.

EIJI OTORI

Eiji Otori is another member of HEAVENS and he is a down-to-earth type of character. One can say he is a cinnamon roll as he looks out for HEAVENS and his brother, Eiichi. Eiji talks in a formal manner to people outside of HEAVENS and addresses them by their surname like the time he worked with Tokiya for Mighty Aura, or when he was working with Camus and Masato for Feather in Hand. Around HEAVENS, Eiji talks casually, calling them by their first name. He is very mindful of other members of HEAVENS and Eiji keeps an open mind for ways to improve his skills as an idol and to help out his bandmates come to a solution where both sides agree. Eiji speaks very fondly of the people he works with formality and a lot of respect.

What I love about Eiji is his relationship with his brother, Eiichi Otori. The two have a strong bond as Eiichi looked after and took care of Eiji when growing up. The two of them are inseparable and do a lot together while looking after each other. Personally, their sibling bond is what I wish to have with my sibling as well, even though we're complete opposites like day and night! Their interactions are easily seen throughout the anime, you can even see their sibling bond show the most through HEAVENS Radio as Eiichi and Eiji are the co-hosts. If there is anything that I'd like to know more about Eiji, it would be about his hobby, gardening. He has a lot of knowledge on plants and perhaps agriculture. It'd be nice to see HEAVENS talk about their hobbies one day. But all in all, Eiji is a great character that I appreciate with a heart of gold!

Eiji Otori, the 4th member of HEAVENS is one of my two most favorite characters in Utapri. I was originally drawn to his kind and gentle demeanor, that made him such an easily lovable character. He was introduced in the 4th season of the anime in the cross idol unit episodes. The way he treated Tokiya besides knowing he was part of the rival idol group ended up becoming an essential part of Tokiya’s later character growth. Although Eiji is meant to be a foil for Tokiya’s character their personalities are completely polar opposites, their devotion to wanting to be an idol being one of the only similarities besides level headedness. Eiji is his own character, right down the way he speaks to the way he sings. Eiji seems to always carry the group in a loving and family-like way, even going as far as having domestic hobbies like gardening and baking. We always see him and even hear the way he interacts with the other members of HEAVENS on the radio show as if they were an inseparable family. Eiichi, his older brother and the leader of HEAVENS loves him in a way that is so complex but Eiji will always love him back with every fiber of his being to the deepest parts of his soul. There is a deep connection between the brothers that is so beautiful that even poetry couldn’t express, it’s more profound then words can show. It’s a bond they share that only they know, like a secret.

However, even then there is so much more about Eiji that makes him such a wonderful character. When it comes to myself, Eiji hits a bit close to home in a more personal way. Perhaps that is also a factor in why I love him so much. I empathize with him and I can see through his eyes in ways only a younger sibling would know. As a younger sister to a sibling who has always been in the spotlight in some form of way with a big presence, I always lived in her shadow, but I admired her and cared about her above anything else. The way Eiji feels about Eiichi is something that I can personally relate with and understand. Eiichi is an essential part of Eiji’s character and the anime does not lack to show this, nor does it lack to show that Eiji is just as much an essential part of Eiichi’s character. It’s more obvious in the radio show that is hosted by the two brother but it’s not fully ignored either in the anime. I love how Eiji interacts with all of the characters, and seems to find ways to treat everyone with kindness even if they aren’t kind to him in return. He admires those who show a deep love for the things he does, and respects those who are more experienced then he is. He’s always eager to learn

and please. He’s the kind of person you’d always want around and you’d want a hug when things get rough. Eiji is definitely the most pure hearted character of all the Utapri characters. And, I’ll always stand by that through and through.

VAN KIRYUIN

Kiryuin Van. Where to start? He’s cocky. He’s cocky as all hell. There’s something in his air that is poised yet undignified. Childish yet mature. The man is founded on juxtaposition, not dissimilar to a painting of Picasso. His ability to be unique in an industry that begs for individuality, to rise above a tidal wave of competition and stand apart from other fish in the sea, is awe-inspiring. Expectation is dead to him; though the oldest member of Heavens, the weight of bearing the role as ‘most mature’ or the ‘parent’ of the group couldn’t be further from his concern. He is only any dimension of himself he wants to be at any given time. Dumb bitch by morning, bad bitch by night. Much like his bandmates, his confidence and intimidating aura is unwavering. He claims his victory before a race begins, and I couldn’t say if that undying faith in oneself is a skill or a sin. Whatever it is, he owns it. He shamelessly, unapologetically owns who he is and shares it with his fans, friends and enemies.

Also, he’s hot. He’s very appealing to the human eye. His ruggedness reminds me of a warm blanket in winter. His voice, oh his voice. If the world was about to blow up and he just said “No it won’t”, in his own way, I think I’d believe him. Regardless of what he says being juvenile or mature, he’s always authentic. No sugar coats, no little white lies, only genuity. As just said before, he is who he is and wouldn’t change for anyone if it wasn’t in his own best interest. Who couldn’t love a guy like that?

Where do I begin when it comes to Yamato? It took me a while to actually like him. At first, I wasn’t a fan of how he was when he first showed up in the anime. I still remember when Yamato was one of the few HEAVENS members people really didn’t like or care much for, next to Eiichi and Nagi.

I used to be one of those people too with Yamato. I found him to be very stubborn, but over time after listening to HEAVENS Radio; The Drama CDs; Watching Maji Love Kingdom, etc… I came to realize there’s so much more to him.

I’ve learned a lot more about him, especially through role-playing as him, and my love for Yamato skyrocketed. Even with all the new content that’s been coming out for HEAVENS lately like Black Garden and Endless Score, my love grows even more every day. Yamato sneaked his way up to being one of my best boys.

Yamato is HEAVENS’ Strongest member. (Seriously, how the heck does this boy train everyday and do so much of it?!) He’s not always aggressive and violent. He’s actually a really thoughtful person who cares about his friends a lot, even being very protective of them. Yamato is the kind of person that’ll immediately stop what he’s doing, and only think about how to help the other person feel better.

A lot of things tend to be overlooked for him cause of how he’s written in the anime, and there’s fans who only pay attention to that. Not even giving the extra content a thought or a single glance.

As Ryuya’s younger brother, Yamato has his own insecurities, especially since he’s always seen as just a shadow. He’s been trapped in darkness where he feels he’s not good enough to be appreciated and loved as his own person. He doesn’t know what to do and which path to take. Yamato only became an idol just to defeat and finally be better than Ryuya at something. I feel that goal is still there, but it’s not a major one like before. Now, Yamato has people like the other members of HEAVENS, the angels, and the other idols. He found his light and happiness.

Overall, Yamato is the kind of person he wants everyone to be proud of. He wants to always share his strongest power and energy, carrying the burden of everybody’s smiles. Wanting to see those around him happy and be the best they can be.

Another part that I really like about Yamato is whenever he gets embarrassed. I can’t help, but find that really cute cause it’s something we don’t see or hear out of him a lot.

There’s also the times he demonstrates how much he loves food. Even though he overeats and knows he can’t help it when he’s hungry, I really liked when Yamato stated that if eating makes you happy, go for it. Just make sure you train afterwards to burn off calories. It helps people feel good about themselves.

Even the times when Yamato struggles with difficult words, specifically English and kanji. It’s embarrassing for him to admit, but he knows he’s not good at that sort of thing. What I really like about this is HEAVENS is always willing to help him, even Tokiya and Cecil. They help keep things simple and easy for Yamato to understand.

There’s a lot you can say I just simply vibe with when it comes to Yamato, and I love him. Hope everyone enjoys this long appreciation of this strong boy, and I hope you all love him too!

SHION AMAKUSA

When I saw Shion for the first time, he caught my attention with his beautiful appearance. His cream-white hair, his periwinkle eyes and his pale skin were a wonderful combination that I just couldn't ignore. Physically, he was exactly the type of character I love… Even his hairstyle is great! And what to say about his pretty face! To me, he looked like an angel.

His style in clothes is something I also like about him. With all this mixed, the only word I can use to describe him is "perfect".

But, of course, there's more than just physical appearance. Shion's way of speaking, as we all know, is quite… Particular. And those beautiful words made me be more interested in this boy, even if they were a bit difficult to understand. This characteristic is something that, in my opinion, makes him special, not only in his group but among all the groups.

That poetic way of speaking is a beautiful combination with his voice. When he speaks I find it so mystical… And when he sings his solo songs I feel relaxed and even a bit emotional. He's not an angel just physically, he also sings like one!

But what made me love him completely was his personality. To be honest, at first I didn't understand why he acted so hostile to Cecil and signed with him, but when it was explained later I could see his point of view and I felt sorry for him, for how he was feeling and the big sacrifice he was making if we take into account his thoughts.

Loyalty is something I value a lot, and Shion has a huge loyalty towards his friends. After that incident, he changes his way of thinking and he starts getting more friendly to the rest, something I find beautiful.

I also find him very cute, an extra point for me to like him. His -sometimes- childish attitude is adorable! And how he acts around his friends… So lovely!

I also feel a bit similar to him in some aspects, such as listening to the same song again and again, liking birds or even usually feeling sleepy, besides other things. These similarities make me feel connected in some way with him.

Shion is a very special character for me, and I can't wait to see more content about him, to know more about this wonderful boy, for example, about his family, where he is from, how he ended up in HEAVENS, how he started to speak the way he does… There are a lot of things we don't know yet and I hope we can get more information about Shion soon!

Personal favorite is often shown in the one I draw the most lol, which for a long time was Danielle LWW, but just because she was also my wolfsona at the time. After I made my own personal one I think I went onto Sam for a good while, also eventually going to Dany from Bsd!

So a tie between two beautiful girls, Sam is definitely my favorite LWW Oc, she is just precious and the one I hold the most and most always feel terrible and bad when I put her through it TM. 

Also Dany is my self insert, U//w//U, she has definitely allowed me to slowly self love and allow me to appreciate myself, especially the parts of me I didn’t think to much about or consider so appealing, I think? She has definitely been changing gradually into more of myself since I first came up with her almost 2 years ago! Watch me slowly knock her down to my height of 4′9″, let her have her 3 inches for another year maybe lol.

19. Introduce an OC that means a lot to you (and explain why)

Definitely Darkwolfmon! I am sure I explained in the first question why, but again I consider her to be that other half of me, the part of me I never discovered or the parts that essentially fill in the gaps within me. She is my precious partner Digimon and has honestly come a long, long way since I first created her. I believe sometime in 2009-2010, so almost 11-12 years since. She was the first ever OC of mine and is one I hold closest too in my heart.

For the longest time, even too now, I have always wanted her to just manifest at my side. Go on this journey of life together. While she might not be physically here like my child-self would want, she is still in my stories, my imagination, my inspirational drive. I think that is definitely more than enough, I don't know where or who I would be without having created her. I probably wouldn’t have a whole tale of OC’s and stories to tell if it wasn't for her. 

I am more than grateful and thankful that I am who I am because of this lovely Oc of mine. I can only hope to have her at my side for the rest of my days!

20. Do any of your OCs sing? If they sing, care to share more details (headcanon voice, what kind of songs they like etc)?

Most, if not all, my OC’s can sing! Their voices and tones vary, to which I cannot give a straight answer on how I headcanon most of their voices right now ^^; I will say that Danielle has a British accent to her voice as well as Spanish speak, and Sora has a Russian accent to her voice, so may be just lightly deep, but not to much.

I will definitely go with my Bsd Oc/Self Insert Danielle Mika Mason, however! Because I have gone and done a thing on how she would speak in her Japanese and English Dub! Dany is meek when it comes to her singing, she will often be caught humming and softly singing something, but quickly tends to stop around others. She is often back and forth with how she sounds and often shuts down when she hears someone she considers better than her. She just needs some encouragement and a gentle push from someone she really cares about. When she does feel the push and genuineness from someone she will sing her heart out. But of course prefers to sing for only that one special person~ can ya guess~ 🐯

Oh boi! I literally have moodboards to add to this! I pick Samantha, or Sam! 

She would totes have a Tumblr blog, and Instagram! You always look forward to see what she post and just feel an instant calmness and warmth when you see it! She is always tagging her things appropriately, a soft and warm spring like layout that is shades of yellows, golds, orange, white; an occasional blue and teal as well! She would reblog anything of her aesthetic, golds, yellows, dance and ballet related things (may even post videos or poses of herself in practice and dance related things), cafe shops, sweets and desserts, warm night lights, cats, lots and lots of cats and felines of all shapes and sizes! Her best friend/boyfriend, Takaru always cameos in her stories and posts 💖

She would also reblog or spread awareness of any issues happening in the world, marking them and making her own voice heard as well. In spur moments, you may see her not tag things, but will likely go back to name things accordingly. She would also reblog anything of Bi Pride too!

28. Your most dangerous OC? 

Hmmm,,, my most dangerous Oc, I am taking the notion that they are just plain dangerous and likely of evil intent in their actions. Because plenty of my Oc’s on their own are dangerous in their own right, such as the Legendary Wolf Warriors, who have a great power at their paws. They can be destructive in their actions if they lose control or use it for the wrong intentions, which they wouldn't do of their free will. 

I will say Danielle and Sam are the strongest of the seven, because of their powers of Darkness and Light, respectively. Their souls created the others, so the other Warrior’s power does not match theirs. They can definitely be lethal together if used for the wrong reasons or if they are under the control of a Human or Deadly Sin.

Which leads me to say that the most dangerous of my OC’s with the worst intentions and evil thought processes that makes them dangerous is likely the Deadly Soul Sin Pride, or Mikka Penelope King/Pride as her solid name goes. 

She is definitely the most sinister of the seven sins, even worse than Wrath, who you may figure would be the worst. She has a calculating mind and is very precise in her actions and ways of manipulation. She has a poison within her veins that is just as deadly, capable of blinding others or even killing without remorse or care. While she may be a ghost like entity in my stories, a person/digimon holder in my Digimon College Au, she has enough power to influence people to fall under pride and vanity in the most dangerous level possible, heck even possess them if she wishes. That makes her stronger, as well as the other sins. Does not matter if she is dead or fades away for a while, her influence remains and if it does, than she can exist for a long as she desires.

Lol I saw cinnamon roll and instantly had a list of ocs ready, honestly any child OC I have is instantly a cinnamon roll and to good and put for this world, please treat them all kindly!

random headcanon: as you might have noticed, I use they/them pronouns for Balth. This is because I 100% think they’re nonbinary. They use all pronouns really, they don’t even care that much, but they just feel immensely seen when someone uses they/them pronouns. All my other headcanons about nonbinary Balth are collected in this fic I wrote a million years ago (I’d probably write it differently today, but the timeline still stands).

unpopular opinion: Balthazar is not a precious cinnamon roll, too good for this world, too pure, never done anything wrong in their life ever. They fucked up a few times and sure, they had their reasons, but those are not the same as excuses. Balthazar is not perfect and pure, and that’s okay (and purity culture is bs anyway)

least favorite thing about them: just the uhh (how do I put this without offending the wrong people?) slightly biphobic writing in lolilo he had to endure? I mean I get what they were trying to achieve there - he’s complicated, he has issues, etc etc. but you really need to consider what you’re saying when you make a character you’ve previously established as bi have an alcohol abuse problem and let him have sex with pretty much everyone and just. it could have been done better is all i’m saying. (I still want to clarify that I didn’t hate lolilo. it did have its weaknesses and problems, but I still overall liked it and hated that the fandom had to be torn apart over it.)

favorite line: all of the sonnet. I memorized it by heart pretty much the day the video came out. I just love it so much. The delivery, the soft smile, the vulnerability, just... he’s done with being scared and hiding and running away and distracting himself, and he embraces his feelings fully and is finally ready to speak up, and it’s so, so beautiful. 

brOTP: Peter & Bea had a lot of potential, I wish I could’ve seen more of that. Also, Peter & Jaquie!!! I did ship Peter/Jaquie/Costa there for a bit, but in the end, I’m all about Jaquie dating both Meg and Freddie soooo bros Peter & Jaquie it is!

OTP: Pedrazar. Like I said, I could enjoy a bit of Peter/Costa or Peter Jackie or Peter/Costa/Jackie, but that’s maybe for an alternate reality where Peter gets to explore his sexuality freely and without the pressure of negative stereotypes and an endgame ship over his head.

nOTP: Peter/Bea. Not sure if that’s a thing, but it shouldn’t be. They’re bros!!! 

random headcanon: At some point in his uni years, Peter really gets into lgbt+ politics and activism - his main goal is to educate people, especially teens, about different sexualities, so that no one has to grow up ashamed and repressed like him. But then he begins to take an interest in actual politics and how there’s really unjust laws that prevent all kinds of marginalized folks from living their best lives. Maybe he feels silly and weird about it at first, it reminds him too much of his awkward run for class president which was mostly about his need to be popular - but he eventually decides to go into politics full-time, this time for the causes and not for the power and popularity.

unpopular opinion: Peter, just like Balth, was not a pure cinnamon roll, but he wasn��t a toxic, abusive shitbag worth nothing either. I really hated that time the fandom split in two camps, the one defending Peter and the one defending Balth, and it sucked so much that to praise one, the other had to be put down, called problematic, etc. etc. Pretty much everyone in lolilo did some fucked up shit, most of it due to insecurity, anxiety and other mental health shit. Peter was no exception from this, but he wasn’t the devil, he wasn’t the worst of them, and he still deserved love, forgiveness, and happiness.

Day 4: A Late Start To A Nice, Chill Day in Fairbanks

After staying out until the early morning hours viewing the northern lights, we slept in to recuperate and regain our lost energy from a very long and productive last 24 hours. Our first stop after we were up and ready to go was The Cookie Jar, a brunch place we had found online with great reviews. And it was super yummy! We ordered the Stuffed Nolan (which is made of two cinnamon roll halves stuffed with cream cheese, grilled, and then topped with strawberries and whipped cream with syrup to add on the side) and Biscuits and Gravy with Sausage Links, Hash Browns, and a Poached Egg. The servings were quite generous and the food was amazing, especially the Stuffed Nolan… it was so good! Luckily, because there was so much of it, we took half of it home to have for later. The biscuits and gravy were delicious too! Wow, what a start to the day!

Once we had our fill, we drove out of town about 20 minutes to the North Pole, a little town in Alaska that was happily named so in the past that now attracts visitors from across the world just because of its name and association with Santa Claus. We quickly drove through town and saw the candle-cane-like street lamp posts and sign posts, the forever-hanging Christmas decorations, and the Santa-related street names in town. 

We then visited The Santa Claus House, a large gift shop stocked with everything Christmas-related. Outside the shop on the grounds was a very large Santa statue with a sled in front. On the walls outside of the house were Christmas murals. Inside were lots of gifts, Alaska souvenirs, punny shirts and sweaters, Christmas trees, and Santa Claus himself! He was a jolly old fellow and we enjoyed hearing his conversation with others and also enjoyed conversing with him about this crazy year, the typical tourist flow in the North Pole, his work history, etc. We even got to see him making short video messages for family members of customers stopping by the house! We walked through and looked at the different merchandise on display before we asked someone about the letters to Santa that were supposedly posted up somewhere in the shop. After a worker there showed us the location of the letters, Cynthia and I spent a good 15-20 minutes reading through all the different letters, from both kids and adults, sent in from around the world and routed here to Santa in North Pole, AK. It was so fun to read through some of the amusing and innocent messages written on those letters. So many heartwarming ones too! We definitely had fun reading them! And it reminded me of the good old days when Santa (i.e. my mom and dad) left me and my brother presents we didn’t ask for under the tree. Good times, good times. 

Once we bid farewell to the Santa Claus House, we made a quick detour to pick up Cynthia’s bag that we had left at The Cookie Jar before driving onward to the Morris Thompson Cultural and Visitors Center in downtown Fairbanks. We were hoping to visit the center and learn more about Fairbanks and Alaska’s history through the exhibits but we came a tad late and only a small part of the center was still open for viewing. So we made a quick visit out of it with plans to return tomorrow morning before leaving town. 

As we left the visitor center, the rain was starting to take a turn for the worse as the clouds were starting to build and drizzle was starting to come down. We made a quick stop to view the Moose Antler Arch right behind the center, as well as the Lend Lease Monument and Chena River nearby before heading back home to lay low and rest. The late night was quick to catch up to us throughout the day. Even though we had soft plans to check out different areas outside of Fairbanks today, with the weather looking the way it did and us feeling tired from the late night, we knew the smart thing to do was to rest for a few hours before dinner. 

So I took a nap and Cynthia used that time to work on a presentation she had to give as part of her upcoming interview. After a couple hours of rest, we left the BnB and drove through the small area known as Downtown Fairbanks on our way to grab dinner from Fushimi Japanese Fusion. We ordered the Third Ave Roll, Chicken Teriyaki Bento Box, and Shrimp Shumai and brought it home to enjoy in the comforts of our AirBnB. Even though we had had sushi recently, it was nice to have some good, warm food and not fast food for dinner and to enjoy it after just running around eating unhealthily yesterday. 

The night slowly crept in and before we knew it, we had reached the point in the evening where we had to commit to sleeping or chasing the auroras. Again the weather tonight was not particularly great with on and off rain throughout the area and heavy clouds. However, as I kept track of the data being posted on the websites I previously spoke of, conditions slowly started to improve, prompting me to get myself out of the warm bed I was sitting in and out to the car, all while dragging poor Cynthia out with me to see the Northern Lights one last time. 

Tonight, instead of driving to the same spot we went to last night, I drove about 50 minutes out of Fairbanks to Murphy Dome, which was labeled a mountain peak on Google Maps and was one of the many spots that many websites advised for viewing the auroras in and around Fairbanks. The drive took longer than I expected because we had to drive on a very heavily pot-holed dirt road up a mountain in complete darkness. But when we finally arrived at Murphy Dome, wow! The skies were super clear with minimal light pollution and the view of the night sky and stars was spectacular!  

The views of the sky were amazing. And there weren’t too many people in the area, not that it mattered because the area was huge. But the thing that was difficult to deal with was how windy it was. It was SO VERY WINDY. And what made matters worse was the fact that the ball head on my tripod was loose and there was no way to tighten it without the right tools. FML. So I had to make do while keeping as warm as possible in the unrelenting wind while watching what ended up being a spectacular show of northern lights. 

Unlike last night’s light show, tonight’s was way stronger and way more visible. The lights were greener, the skies were clearer, and those two conditions combined to make the perfect viewing opportunity. At first, the auroras were found streaming across the sky like one big flowing river. However, as the night went on, the activity increased significantly and changes to that stream began to happen, to the point that they appeared to be dancing across the sky like nothing I’ve had a chance to see before! It was crazy! And beautiful! And mesmerizing! The only bad things about seeing the auroras where I saw them were that 1) they were actually quite difficult to photograph given the way they looked in the sky and  2) the surroundings I was shooting in was subpar. Straight lines in the sky are hard to frame. And when you do have those straight lines, it’s much better if you frame it relative to the surrounding scene. But at the top of the mountain at Murphy Dome, there wasn’t much of a scene to frame in the foreground to make the photos look good. So I just had to capture what I could and delete whatever didn’t work out later. Oh, and it was really cool to see the Milky Way galaxy and some shooting stars above in such a pure, dark sky. It was awesome! 

After standing outside in the cold and wind for 2-3 hours and watching the northern lights peak and then start to slow down, it was finally time to go home. By this point in the night, Cynthia was long gone and fast asleep. So, similarly to last night, I called and caught up with my dad on the drive home before arriving at the AirBnB and going straight to bed around the same time as last night. Not sure if I’ll be able to get up as early as we intended on getting up tomorrow… We’ll see… because we have a very long day ahead and much ground to cover. 

5 Things I Learned/Observed Today:

1. Fairbanks is known as the “Golden Heart City”. 

2. The Dalton Highway is a Wild Wild West-type road that takes you from Fairbanks to the Arctic Circle and is supposedly a very desolate, primarily unpaved road that is used mostly by truckers for their jobs. Occasionally, tourist companies and tourists themselves venture out on this road to reach the outskirts of Alaska. If you’re ever thinking of taking a trip into the Arctic Circle via this route, you will need to be prepared for the worst case scenarios and pack and plan accordingly. 

3. The North Pole has candy-cane-striped light poles and billboard/sign poles lining streets! Also, there are a lot of streets that are named after Christmas things. The town itself is pretty small though. The main attraction is the huge Santa at the Santa Claus House, the gift shop there, and meeting Santa in real life!

4. Supposedly, the current Santa is from FL and moved to CA to do his job as Santa before landing his dream gig at the North Pole. And after chatting with him, I got to see first hand how good a fellow Santa is. No matter how hard I tried to get him to troll someone about something, he was always so nice with his words. And he made the good list this year because he was wearing his mask! Good job Santa! Even though his mask made him look a little creepy… 

5. “Thank you” in the native Athabascan language is “Enaa Baasee’”.

Let's clarify a few points:

1) All ships are valid: there is no better pair than the others because it is all purely "subjective".

2) It is okay to express your opinion but without trying to offend, because it is rude and is not respectful towards the other.

3) Try to change your mind on a ship or a character... "And a ship that is toxic and does not make sense1!" "The character is abusive1!" cit ...it's ridiculous and I recommend to look at point 1.

4) Many people forget that ship with little screentime, or rare ones, there have always been in all fandom not only on BNHA: a good example of rare and non-canonical ship is the Dramione \ Drarry (from Harry Potter) and boast a numerous fandom behind. But there are many others.

5) "He has massacred her at the festival: you support the abuse1!" And nothing, it's already laughing like that. They were fighting loyally and Bakugou showed great respect for her, facing her in full force. Should he have let her win? And for what reason?

6) Katsuki is probably among the characters that are developing more within the manga and Ochako is not at all a tender "cinnamon roll" helpless, because he can manage his temperament very well and Katsuki is not a "monster”: their would be a beautiful relationship based on mutual respect that could lead to further development for both characters. 

7) " Izuocha is canon1! 1" Ehm is it then? No ship is canon at the moment and even if at the end of the manga the Izuocha should be confirmed to me it does not change anything, because i like  Kacchako and I will not change my mind. 

I have so many ship that I like that they are not canon but hey, i do not take it and I'm not obsessed with these things.

There is one thing in fact that is called "personal tastes", something that many evades evidently, and that I have already mentioned in point 1.

8) The ship is the fun and light part of every fandom: yes, we follow the story and the development of the characters, but we like to fantasize over two characters that we like. This does not mean that we are superficial, but the ship war does not make sense because first of all it should be just a pleasure to support the favorite couples (fan art, fan fiction, etc ...) and then no one is forcing to please you. It simply takes respect, which is the basis of every civil cohabitation. 

And then I honestly prefer to spend my time dedicating myself to the things I love that hate my NOTP and make it known to the whole world.

Where’s the growth?  They don’teven need to have “flaws” per se.  Whatif the “One True Hero to Save the World” is balled up on the floor crying tothemselves because they don’t think they’re strong enough?  Hot take over and it’s probably little kidDreyns.  (Which breaks hearts because hegrows up into something not pure.)

August 9: The 100 2x01, The 48

Okay, settling down to rewatch 2x01, the start of my favorite season...

I love this Clarke so much. Badass Clarke, sneaky Clarke, a Clarke who will fearlessly do what she has to in order to escape and to get to her friends. A Clarke with convictions and guts.

How DO they know everyone’s names lol? Is that ever explained? (ETA: Monty was obviously the informant.)

Mount Weather is one of my favorite parts of this show, honestly. I love that their mission is in part to preserve the beautiful things humanity created, like art; they gave their prisoner Starry Night. The ORIGINAL Starry Night. I just find that very moving. All of these non-essential parts of being human... the show has abandoned them and that’s part of why it’s so hollow for me now, I think.

Level 5: where it all begins and it all ends.

The Clarke/Maya relationship could have been so much more, tbh. Like they had their good moments, like threatening to kill each other etc., but they could have gone deeper.

Surprise! Underground executive branch family dinner! This is the sort of twist I can get behind.

Haha remember when actual delinquents still existed? I joke but truly the later canon has ruined parts of this show for me.

I forgot Tristan survived into 2x01. Not for long. Such Grounder hypocrisy: “That’s one. I lost 300.” He makes it sound as if Finn marched into a village and killed 300 people--they were fucking soldiers on the attack you dum-dum.

“Only our warriors speaking English.” Well that sounds like bullshit based on literally everything we see after this point.

The statue of Lincoln is “the place we go to settle disputes.” First, please don’t say they settle disputes to the death or some nonsense, and second, that’s his namesake... Significant? I mean, objectively, no, but can I make something out of it somehow?

I disliked Luna but she COULD have been so interesting and she and Lincoln COULD have had quite a dynamic. I headcanon them as exes. I want to know their whole backstory tbh. When they met. How. If he wanted to go with her to the sea. If he did perhaps and then came back.

Drink every time someone cauterizes a wound.

You know what else they should have done? Story line about the meeting of Grounder and Sky People medicine. Oh wait that would have taken away from the repetitive war story lines never mind.

That dropship is so fucking impressive. WHERE ARE THE AWARDS FOR THE SET PEOPLE?

And the costume people for those awesome masks.

Am I supposed to feel bad for this Grounder and his charred friend? I do not. Next time, don’t attack the children for no reason and you won’t get burned to a crisp. Easy.

The thing is I can never get behind the Raven + Murphy friendship 100% even though their S5 dynamic looked interesting because he literally fucking shot her and that’s just not a bygones are bygones thing. But they do have personalities that mesh well together so in that way it’s sort of a shame. Also he 10000000000000% had a crush on her don’t even try to argue.

She fired that gun at him. I forgot that. She fired but was out of bullets, that’s the only reason he didn’t die right there. “Yeah I would have shot me too.”

I’m p. sure that’s the real Mount Weather?

I know the Mount Weather people have no leg to stand on when it comes to the Grounders and that they’re...pretty obviously racist, but in their defense--the Grounders were written to be pretty savage, so “savages,” while unforgivably racially tinged, is a fair descriptor of them.

I know I’ve harped on this before but Mount Weather has a judicial system of some sort and it’s possible to press charges there. Somehow. The world building on this show sucks balls.

“They also said you were their leader” is like some retconning, okay. Because you will not convince me that for most of S1 BELLAMY wasn’t the leader in the eyes of the delinquents.

Fucking love Dante. Where are my Dante + Clarke mentor/mentee or ex-mentor/mentee or different-gen-rivals fics?

“We prioritize safety over sentimentality.” As Maya takes blood she absolutely doesn’t need but is having just in case and that she knows comes from someone else’s tortured body because she’s accepted this as something they do, because she’s not sentimental. But she already feels guilty.

Clarke is already using the word “capture.” I had a discussion with someone once about Clarke’s vision of Mount Weather versus, say, Jasper’s, and why it was different and I said some poorly phrased stuff that didn’t really reflect my thoughts and opinions and it still haunts me but I feel like this is...relevant to that. How she immediately feels ‘captured,’ trapped.

Clarke’s devotion to her friends and her people was still so pure and right here.

Dante really does believe he “saved” them. I wonder what his thought process was... I really hate the “savages” so I must save these children? These children look interesting, let’s meet some new friends? She’s right of course that if they were really guests, they could leave.

Multiple crash sites over 100 square miles = I should go on google maps to confirm my Pennsylvania/Farm Station theory but I’m too lazy.

GOD THOSE CLOTHES. I love that Clarke picks the pants and the high heel shiv.

There’s no way there’s actually time for natural selection to work that fast in 97 years and also I’m pretty sure the Sky People are genetically modified because their original pool was way too small for the process Dante is describing but whatever this show is all la-di-da science.

Also: this is how you run an underground Bunker OCTAVIA.

Dante was the only rival/antagonist/whatever Clarke has ever had that rivals her instincts and intelligence yeah I said it; fight me. I know she needed to be on the outside for this season to work but he should have been her mentor. He basically set her up to be mentored and then she ran off and into L who basically destroyed her and she’s never recovered.

THAT REUNION. Heartwarming. Though hard to watch too because this show did both Jasper and Monty so dirty. (Yeah I said that too WHAT OF IT.)

“Dying. Same as you.” Murphy gets all the good lines. That’s why people like him, forget this “redemption arc.”

The Grounder Raven killed was Murphy’s guard and honestly--hilarious. He abandons his post, realizes all his friends are skeletons, pickpockets one, then is shot by what he must initially assume is a dead body. Better character than almost anyone introduced from S3 on.

This cake scene is the most iconic. Jonty were scene stealers stfu. They’re children--basically. They get to act their age. They get to be happy and silly and they loved each other so much.

“Pretend like you’re happy to see me.” / “We are happy to see you.” See? Adorable. I know he’s no cinnamon roll but gosh, adorable.

And then Clarke comes in like secret espionage time and they just look so Tired TM.

I feel like Monty knew, or suspected on some level, that Jasper wasn’t just ‘bummed out’ by Clarke’s suspicions, he was panicking a little.

I can’t believe Jasper and Maya have known each other for like 10 seconds and she’s already seen his O face.

“Clarke’s the only reason we survived.” Um ex-CUSE me but I know you didn’t forget Bellamy’s existence, Jasper.

Clarke’s so smart!

Maya brings out the big guns, literally.

“I’m the one who fired the rockets. Should I not have done that?” is so heartbreaking. Mostly because of the delivery. I love this entire scene. There are like 8 different scenes I love in this episode, like whole-heartedly and truly love.

Clarke’s suspicions really do look like paranoia. Like I see what she’s picking up on, saw it even the first time I watched this ep, but there’s a sense in which she does appear irrational.

There’s actually something kinda funny about Bellamy running out with a spear in one scene, looking around blankly, and then getting chained up as a prisoner in the next scene. At least he inspired his little protege Monroe. Scenes like this are the reason she joined Pike in S3.

Tristan’s like “Who are these fucking children running at me and screaming?” Then he gets shot in the head. Goodbye Tristan you won’t be missed.

“We’re here now. Everything’s going to be okay.” This sounds like Kane playing out a hero fantasy he’s had since he was a child. Except he’s talking to two mud-stained kids who are looking at him skeptically instead of, like, a captured heroine or something.

I feel like they set up this conflict where the adults/Sky People elite come in and, like Kane says explicitly, assume they’re in charge and everyone will fall in line, but then the delinquents don’t see it that way or want that: they have their own priorities (their friends) and their own relationships (Finn and Bell don’t even LIKE each other but they’re still communicating by look) and their own knowledge (the pipes that allow them to move through the dropship camp quickly and without permission). But then... it sort of plays into the rest of the season...but not that much?? Not as much as I would like.

“You are not animals. There are rules. Laws. You are not in control here anymore.”

This show sacrificed a lot of complex relationships to just either make people buddy-buddy who had no reason to be or just arbitrarily assign relationships to scenes or episodes without regard for continuity at all.

Raven took Jasper’s goggles.... never over this.

How was bringing Octavia to TonDC faster than collecting some beetles for her to eat?

“Loss, pain, regret. Time eases these things.” I’d say this is the sort of line the show should be repeating but God when it gets a line in its teeth it never lets the fuck go so I guess it’s better this one remains pristine.

I find Dante very sympathetic but also so creepy.

They weren’t really patrolling for other people, were they? Because like...surely they would have found them. They’re at the dropship and close by. He was just bullshitting here. But why don’t they want to make even more new friends?

Dante’s stationery is presidential themed lol. Glad we stocked up the bunkers properly with the important stuff.

The crashed Alpha Station is beautiful. I believe this was the first time it was shown on the show? Ugh, this whole sequence with the music, it’s perfect and so touching.

Jaha is the most tragic and heartbreaking figure on this show. He also doesn’t get the appreciation he deserves. Just...the image of a man alone in space, talking to his loved ones, hoping they can hear them, not knowing if they can... I almost can’t handle it. I used to be very unsure if I liked where his story line went after this (seeing it in its entirety, I defend it) but surely he could not have died this way.

This is gonna get sappy. Hello! Thank you for 2K (again)! 

Honestly, when I left 2-3 yrs ago I didn’t have any intentions on returning, or at least I hoped beyond hope I wouldn’t cave. I did, though. I’ve been sharing headspace with Uni for a long time, though by official count it’s at five years. A fella I’ve spent a lot of one-on-one time with, getting to know, helping him grow, and he, in turn, helping me in a lot of ways. Writing him has been therapeutic in a way I cannot even begin to describe and when we left those years ago it was for a number of reasons. The biggest being that we--or, really, I--felt as though we had overstayed our welcome. Uni wasn’t shiny and new anymore, hadn’t been for some time, so finding people to write with was like pulling teeth. I had just recently been plagiarized, too, and that honestly made me too paranoid with everything/one. 

But, lo and behold, I returned at the beginning of the year or so, though my activity was in and out for personal reasons. Since properly returning with a fixed schedule not two months ago, I must say I am so... relieved by the way he’s been [re]accepted back into the RP community. Even despite his divergence, despite my hesitance to divulge too much info, etc. It’s been so refreshing to see him get all this activity, to have people want to interact with him, to want to get to know him. AND BLESS THESE SHIPS, HONESTLY. Basically, we love you all and I would thank you all individually but that’d take a long time. Hence this blurb before the proper bias list to say we appreciate you all and wanna write with everyone!

That being said, this bias list will only cover people I’m very close to, people who’ve been following Uni for a long time, or have simply meant quite a bit to us in recent weeks. Thank you !Peregrïn used to be a shy child, but grew a happy young girl. She loves the sun, exploring, seeing the world, she loves the sea, she has kind of a “sunny personality”, and she’s optimistic.Perry and Khadgar do have a bunch of traits in common, traits that brought them closer. She’s smart and very, very curious. She loves to learn about everything, so they spent time reading and discussing about it, sharing thoughts, sharing theories. She is a risk taker, she’s not afraid to try new things (after all she started traveling at a young age), so they’d experiment things, or get to private libraries together. They’d borrow books, read them all night, and then be sleepy all day. To some, they could be seen as trouble makers.She likes to laugh, and I think they like to make each other laugh - please don’t blame her for Khadgar’s puns, though :DShe’s caring, she wants to help. I think she can be reassuring and inspiring, at times.  She likes to sing to kids lol (I totally see her singing this kind of stuff, with a similar voice, too)

Peregrïn is also a bit blunt. You asked what she does that makes Khadgar blush, well that’s one of the things. It’s like she has no filter with some subjects. She can just stop in the middle of something and compliment him when he less expects it (special mention to the day she told him his ears were small and cute)The fact she is so open about this is a bit fun to see but I… believe it ends up helping him quite a lot. But.. that’s another story ! They help each other, they ease each other’s insecurities.Cause yeah, as optimistic as she is, she has a lot of weaknesses. And she lacks self confidence. She especially feels like a bad elf, with how different she is. She’s short and she’s not as pretty or graceful or strong.  She can still kick ass, but only when necessary. Though when she’s in battle by Khadgar’s side she worries a lot about him so she naturally becomes a good bodyguard xD I guess she’s just better than she thinks. She’s jumpy, and if you scare her she might turn into a cat. 

“Home” is important for Peregrïn, but she doesn’t feel home anywhere. As much as she adores a lot of places, forests, cities, etc, (she says she fell in love with Stormwind) she still feels like a stranger everywhere. To a point she decreed that “home” was not a place, but a person. And with that person in her heart, she’d be home anywhere in the world.Also, about the blush thing, here, it’s not a drawing for once xD

ill talk abt dominiques! basically, in my story she becomes queen at age 20 after her own parents (the previous monarchs) died tragically. she married her then-boyfriend, marius, and he became king. in their universe, the king and queen rule jointly, and one can override the others actions, etc etc.

she was really in love with him at first, and she did her best to be a just monarch, but power corrupts and marius, whose family were nobles always aching for more, became more and more evil the longer he ruled the kingdom. it got to the point that he was killing innocents based on his whims, like just because he felt like it. dominique had loved him, but after seeing what he became, she knew what she had to do, and had him assassinated. 

on top of that, she had been sick for many years and was dying of her illness, she had no family left, and none of her children were interested in ascending the throne. she had to give her entire familys lineage away to her closest lady-in-waiting (actually annaliese) because of her husbands evil ways. and thats ALL JUST THE BACKSTORY… not even starting with what happened to her in-story lmao

all of my ocs mean the world to me, but i gotta give special mention to annaliese and marianne! i first created them when i was figuring out my sexuality, and initially they were just the queen and her lady-in-waiting. around the time that i was starting to embrace my gayness, i made the switch from that to them having been good friends (but still the queen and her lady-in-waiting), and finally i changed it from that to them being joint rulers together and also married and in love. thats definitely the first time i began to accept that gayness was ok and good!

i like to think that all of my ocs sing! itd take so long to go into the details of it LMAO but i definitely imagine different voices and musical styles for each!

most of them! i think, of all of my ocs, annaliese has changed the most. initially, she was supposed to be a cruel tyrant that, at the end of her story, was going to be deposed and possibly killed. she was also russian i think LMAO… and she had the throne by birthright

in the current story, annaliese is queen not by birthright, but by choice. in her story, she was initially a servant in the castle of the queen and king (dominique and marius), and worked her way up the ranks to being dominiques closest confidant. after a long time, dominique, who was dying, sent annaliese to kill the king, and, because the princesses were not interested in ruling, she was given the crown as payment.

while annaliese does still have a bit of that “iron-fist ruler” type thing, its not NEARLY as bad as it was, and shes certainly not a cruel tyrant anymore. shes also not russian now, shes french

24. If you could meet one OC of yours, who would it be and why?

i think i would meet elyse! shes cool and can do magic

Yume’s Recs #3 Natsume Yuujinchou

@scrawlers you once said you only got confusing descriptions of Natsume Yuujinchou and since I’m riding high on hype from the new season I’m gonna attempt to write a good description.

So what is Natsume Yuujinchou (Natsume’s Book of Friends)?

It’s a slice-of-life anime about Natsume Takashi, a boy who can see youkai (Japanese monsters/spirits). Natsume is an orphan who has been shuffled around between relatives for as long as he can remember. His ability to see supernatural beings tends to creep people out, and he was often neglected, bullied or abused by his foster parents and classmates.

At the beginning of the story, he has just moved in with distant relatives, the Fujiwara couple (who are precious human beings who actually want to take care of him), in a rural town where his grandmother used to live.

His grandmother, Natsume Reiko, was also able to see spirits and faced the same loneliness as he did, as people around her shunned her. As a result, she sought contact with the youkai, challenging them and taking their names if they lost. Basically, the youkai would give her a paper with their names on it, and she would compile the papers in her “Book of Friends.” It is still unclear if she knew just how binding those contracts were, but youkai who have their names in the Book of Friends are forced to obey the owner’s orders.

As a result, Natsume, who has inherited his grandmother’s belongings, including the Book of Friends, is now often pursued by youkai who either want the Book for power or just want to get their names back. One day, he accidentally releases a powerful beast, with whom he makes a deal: the beast (named Nyanko-sensei by Natsume because he usually takes the form of a fat cat) will act as his bodyguard and help him give the names back to the various youkai, and in exchange he could have the Book of Friends when Natsume dies.

Thus begin their adventures. It’s a very episodic “monster-of-the-week” format, with a few overarching subplots (learning more about Reiko through the youkai’s memories of her, the stuff with the exorcists, etc), with the main focus being on Natsume’s growth throughout the story, and his relationships with Nyanko-sensei, his foster parents, and the friends (humans or youkai) he makes along the way.

It’s a very soothing and heartwarming show, with wonderful characters, beautiful art and music.

Reasons I think you’d like it:

Natsume is a precious cinnamon roll, too good for this world, too pure.

His relationship with his animal companion is very important.

Natsume and the Fujiwara slowly becoming a family aaaaah so much feels.

Nyanko-sensei is hilarious.

Have I mentioned how precious their relationship is? Because it is.

All the recurring characters are wonderful (except Matoba, stay away Matoba).

Quality contents for over ten years and still ongoing. Also the author is adorable.

The fandom is as sweet and peaceful as the show.

Natsume is voiced by Mephisto’s voice actor (but the acting is completely different).

Seriously everyone should give this anime a chance, it’s wonderful <3

Something happened to me. I was called transphobic and and a cis woman (I even had to research the meaning of that acronymic term). I was called like this by a gay guy. I’m shocked.

And so I didn’t get it. I mean. I’m a woman, I’m proud of being a woman. I support all kinds of love no matter the gender. I’m heterosexual. What was happening with the post where I was mentioned?

Now I want to get to the feels I had when I reblogged your post writing that I agreed while I don’t even a penis.

Doukyuussei is one of the most beautiful love stories on earth. High School romance with a bit of angst where the protagonists fall in love with each other and have to cope with their feelings and then kiss a lot and are happy together and have to face university, the different hobbies they have, their contrasting personalities… etc. It’s a huge cuddly love story of two cinnamon rolls. Oh, and they’re men.

I loved that story and despite this incident of being interpreted as wanting a penis I’ll keep loving Doukyuussei because it’s pure gold. He helped him to sing for the chorus! I even wanted to take an audition to my college chorus but I couldn’t! This story was glory for me.

And then I found your post in the Doukyuussei tag.

And what I understood is: love is so pink in these animes that I wish I could live like a gay anime guy.

So I thought: Yeah. Me too. These love stories are beautiful and cute. And I meant it for the love story, for finding the love of you life, I never minded the controversy of seme/uke you brought of anything else.

And I agree with your comment of the anime guys because specifically Doukyuussei is a precious BL’s love story and finding love should be really amazing. I don’t know. I admit I haven’t found love again. I lost my last boyfriend because he died. I was shattered. And I remember that when we fell for each other it was for me like listening to a Coldplay song for the first time. My heart raced like crazy.

I want to believe I will fall in love again, but obviously, I’m gonna have to tell him that some people think I’m homophobic and looks like they think I want to have a penis and being raped.

I’m sorry I repeat this over and over but it shocked me. I mean this, I really mean it. I have gay and bi friends and I’m pretty supportive with them. What I only care is that they don’t end up heartbroken and I’m there if that happens because love, we already know, is not pink. All I can do as a response for these couples is smile and give them a real like-life LIKE supporting them because hand-holding and kissing will never be wrong no matter your sex.
