if i see one more person saying that annabeth’s character is “ruined” because leah’s not blonde, i’m actually going to go insane. if you think that annabeth’s motives and character are entirely defined by her hair color, you did not understand the books. her character goes so much further than her appearance. “but leah doesn’t uphold the dumb blonde stereotype” leah being annabeth ENHANCES annabeth’s character arc by covering racism as well.
every single character in the riordanverse has been outcasted and turned away. this includes annabeth. you think that leah’s annabeth, a black girl in the early 2000s, is an exception to this? fuck, even in the episode with the chimera, it’s noticeable. now i dont know if this was intentional, but someone mentioned that the police officer had no problem with walker/percy’s blatant disrespect, but the SECOND leah very normally asks, “are we under arrest?” he accuses her of having a disrespectful tone.
annabeth’s intelligence is in no way related to her hair color. leah portrays annabeth beautifully and i couldn’t ask for anyone better.

(Gonna preface this saying i don’t live in the US so I’m not very knowledgeable about much of slavery in the US. All of this is based off what I have read and heard from reading about it in school and my own research- So if anybody wants to add any talking points/correct me lmk!)
One thing that is insane to me really is the TRAs who are now comparing TIMs being banned from using the women’s bathrooms with Black women and segregation not being allowed to use bathrooms (allocated to) white women.~~~(and having to walk either across the country to get to one or not have a bathroom they can use point blank period).
Black women and white women are women! they are female! That’s an insane way to have to start a sentence but apparently the systemic violent racism towards Black women and girls is somehow comparable in TRAs eyes, to TIMs being banned from bathrooms. Abhorrent to compare that.
Because how the fuck are you saying that “not letting TIMs into female bathrooms is adjacent to racial segregation.” Literally what the fuck. Like I’m not shocked at TRAs being racist because they’re fucking racist. But the idea that they THOUGHT somehow it was a “checkmate” is actually insane. They are not nor will ever be subjected to the oppression and violence that Black women were faced with (and face to this day). And to try and ride that train is fucked up and straight up disrespectful and offensive.

since the whole discourse on whether laura lee would engage in cannibalism and stuff was brought back again, here's my two cents ig
listen, i understand thar ppl have different interpretations and that is a consequence of art reaching out to different people and different audiences
and there are definitely many heads to analyze in this discussion, like psychological aspects as how laura lee's suicidality in pool scene was a fuel for her religious fervor and the need for a purpose and how this could develop in the wilderness had she survived
but now i wanna talk specifically about how ppl seem to see lottie and, by extension, the other girls, when they bring out this argument to affirm that laura lee wouldn't engage in the cannibalism
it's definetely a bit bizarre that ppl talk about the topic, especially when it's about laura lee and lottie, as if lottie herself was #1 enthusiast of ritual cannibalism right from the start
many ppl seem to straight up forget that lottie was absolutely horrified when she found out via misty that the others killed javi and that they started a hunt in her name which resulted in said killing
(actually, that's probably one of the main reasons why she passed the "crown" to nat, bc she thought nat's moral integrity would be able to keep the others in check -- tho, it's safe to say based on pit girl scene that this idea didn't work at all)
there is a huge difference between the teen lottie who was horrified with the circumstances of javi's death and the one who participated in the pit girl feast, as much as there is a huge difference between that brutal lottie and adult lottie
this show is all about the proccess, the ways in which these girls made those choices
so, as by the end of season 2, we can't say that lottie has reached the point of pit girl scene yet, even if she did commit an atrocity at doomcoming along with the other girls -- the sexual assault and attempt to murder travis
what is more concearning tho, i guess, is ppl framing the brutality of the girls as if it was only a positive thing, and if laura lee or jackie or any other felt conflicted feelings about those things then it means they would be in the wrong
listen, i'm the first one to defend the idea that the wilderness allows these people to set themselves free from social conventions and that includes social structures like racism or LGBTQ-phobia or misogyny
but, again, what ppl miss is that one key word: NUANCE
the showrunners have mentioned a few times, including on that vulture fest panel last year, that the wilderness is some type of double-edged sword, it brings that freedom but also cost these characters a lot
and when ppl act as if doomcoming or other of these moments as purely some "girl power" type of moment, they are missing the entire point of the show
the show isn't trying to be a girlboss moment or witchy, especially bc, if so, then that would be sort of very disrespectful towards actual real life practitioners of Wiccanism and Neopagan religions by associating them with something that might be evil or, in the case of the supernatural not being real in the show, dismissing it as insanity
what yellowjackets is trying to do with that fictional belief system that has no correspondence in the real world is a discussion that crosses different fields like anthropology, philosophy, history, psychology etc, which is trying to understand how faith and belief work
and what makes this show able to attract ppl as different as practicing Christians, Jewish ppl, agnostics, atheists, Neopagans etc is that it never treats ppl as foolish for being believers or non-believers, these characters are just treated as complex human beings dealing with extreme survival circumstances and just trying to navigate life
another important point the show is trying to make is about the violence
bc there is this long discussion, which in Western civilization we can trace back to the 16th century philosophers and perhaps even further, on whether the human nature is purely violent or not, and that is something that's become a theme in the very same intellectual fields i mentioned above -- anthropology, philosophy, history, psychology etc
the most famous example, especially when we consider these survival stories or any story that turns "lord of the flies" in a trope, is 17th century english philosopher thomas hobbes with his idea that, roughly summarized, human beings were so leveled in the state before the creation of organized societies and governments etc (a state that is called "state-of-nature" in the philosophy studies) that they could never be free of the fear that other would do them harm and, since everyone had the right to everything and resources were scarce, people lived in a scenario of perpetual war against each other.
this state of perpetual war could only be stopped by the creation of civil society and the idea that the social contract was unquestionable.
this idea could apply to different social organizations, but hobbes' role model described in his most famous work, leviathan, was basically absolutism/absolute monarchy, which is very authoritarian
now, i know all of this is too academic and ppl who read this might ask what is the point, but, please, bear with me
what makes all of this be relevant is that, even if you're not familiar with this type of academic stuff, you've probably have seen movies, fictional books, tv shows etc that have some variation of the idea that human beings are naturally violent and even evil
it's actually very common in stories that try to portray gray morality in a way
but this is not what yellowjackets does
yellowjackets doesn't treat these characters as naturally violent and evil
on the other hand, it also doesn't treat these characters as naturally good either (something that also comes from philosofical discussions, except that this time it comes from the myth of the noble savage, which french philosopher jean jacques rousseau was wrongly accused of perpetrating when his work was actually just stating an earlier version of the idea that inequality in economy and education was the source of social issues)
what yellowjackets does is actually make us question these assumptions we have about Good and Evil, and show that we human beings are not naturally one thing or another, but that our choices in certain situations can tend to one or the other
most of all, yellowjackets doesn't give us easy answers or stereotypes, it just invites us to think about what it means to be human by showing the good, the bad, the ugly etc in human experience, with most of the characters having all of these things inside them at the same time
so, because yellowjackets isn't a Good vs Evil type of story, it makes no sense for ppl to act as if laura lee, or jackie by the way, would be an antagonist to lottie or the other girls, let alone treat being an antagonist as something positive in a fight against evil, or, which seems more common, something negative as an obstacle to #girlpower
yellowjackets is a show about people in a very desperate situation making desperate decisions with tragic consequences
and it's because laura lee is a human being, and all of us human beings can end up feeling desperate, that having her joining wilderness cult is not something absurd, implausible or out of character
it's a bit of a disservice to act as if lottie is all monstruous and manipulative when all the characters are morally gray and we have yet to see all of them truly embrace brutality as a method
it's also a disservice to the work that the writers and also courtney eaton and simone kessell put to make lottie such a complex and compelling individual, someone that we sympathize with even when we can't support all her actions
and, perhaps, even a bit racist and psychophobic for ppl to assume that lottie is all violence when she, just like her white counterparts, is a morally gray and complex individual
the same way that making lottie a helpless victim is bad bc it strips her from her agency
as my favorite lottie article, "yellowjackets: the unknown through lottie and the use of static" on the latina media website, says, lottie is "a complicated character in the static"
and it's a bit patronizing and sexist to reduce laura lee to her religion and treat her as helpless when compared to the girls her age just bc she is Christian, the same way that it is to idealize her and put her on some pedestal for the same reason
it's also a disservice to the hard work that the writing team and jane widdop have put into making laura lee be more than just a Christian girl stereotype and feel like a fully fleshed individual
anyways, this is a topic that we can discuss for days and days bc, while no show is perfect and flawless, yellowjackets is so well-written and the actors are so amazing that we can analyze it over and over again and always find new stuff to talk about
but the point is that we can't really begin to understand this show and these characters if we only focus on stereotypes and judge a book by its cover

People in the MCU fandom really expect Sam Wilson fans to eat shit and just roll over and accept whatever disrespectful crap they say or do without question. We’re never supposed to respond to anything, especially racism, and especially if we’re Black. It’s actually insane.
I’m sorry, but do you all live in fantasy land? Nobody has to sit around observing your racist nonsense. We can and will react to it. That’s actually normal, by the way. Normal people call out racism anywhere they see it, even online. Fucking duh.

If you have lgbtqia+ friends and you voted for Trump ... you are not an ally.
Let's be real.
The man ran anti-trans adds bashing they/them to the tune of millions of dollars.
He has vowed to toss out gender affirming care - not just in the prison system or for people under the age of 18.
Last presidency, he appointed anti lgbtq judges and banned trans service in the military.
The list goes on - do your research on actual legislation and the people around him that he supports and who support him.
If you have women in your life and you voted for Trump, you are not an ally there either.
He appointed the justices who helped overturn Roe v Wade. He boasts about it. This has led to insane and restrictive abortion bans across the country. Go listen to real women's stories who this has affected. Listen to practicing OBGYN doctors across the nation who are scared.
Think to yourself, why the fuck do men even get a say in your reproductive rights? Especially men who are smuggly propetuating sentiments like "your body, my choice" after this election.
These men support Trump. They feel so comfortable right now.
You are supporting a sexual abuser. Not just alleged but a man who has been held liable for sexual abuse.
His allies peddle outright sexism and rape culture, and he does not condemn it. He's a fucking blatant misogynist.
You don't get to force unwanted "protection" on women ... you are not a knight in shining armor. Don't want it. Don't need it.
I'm so sick of the hyperbole excuses. On all matters.
Do I even need to talk about global climate issues? Racism? China? Immigration? On and on and on.
You would do anything for your family or loved ones? Wouldn't you? I bet you would. You were just lucky enough not to be born on that side of the coin. Be thankful you don't have to constantly worry about the safety of your family to a degree that you need to flee your own country.
They are people. Everyone that I am talking about are actual human lives. Women are dying. Trans people are taking their own lifes. I know we can't help everyone. Or maybe we could. Idk.
Maybe it's boring and you're taking everything at face value.
Maybe you think it's not that bad.
I hope it's not as bad as it seems.
Or maybe you are anti-human rights, misogynistic or internalized misogynistic, bigoted, anti-lgbtqia+, racist ...
Idfk.
And to those who hide it ... don't you ever consider why you feel enough shame to hide it? If you are so solid and sure in your beliefs, why are you not willing to sit openly and speak about it. I am not saying anyone has to. There is a reason it's anonymous. I'm just saying, consider why you don't feel comfortable sharing.
I personally would really like to understand the thought process. It's your choice. That's the beauty of democracy.
I do wish people would stop saying friendships or family ties should not be broken over it. That it's disrespectful to excommunicate over politics. That's also a choice. I will respect your choices, but it does not mean I have to continue to have you in my life because you are not my ally and you do not value me.

general thoughts
damn we started this season strong but once we get past the first catelyn scene it started making me mad lmao
once again…..ATE these bitches up and LEFT NO CRUMBS
shae screaming at tyrion after he tells her to shush is so funny
see this sex scene is fine, whether renly can get it up is actually plot relevant and they’re trying to characterize margaery as a proper player, and show renly is kind of in over his head as well. like it’s a topless scene that at least makes sense to be there.
theon writing then burning a letter warning robb about the attack……….
another sex scene and this time it’s a crazy joffrey one.
oh fuck i completely forgot about dany lmao
cat pulling a knife on petyr. listen i don’t think stoneheart will kill petyr but damn hot damn. do i want catelyn to rip him to pieces slowly ramsay snow style. i can’t wait for red wedding 2.0 that’s the main reason i need the winds of winter, i need to see cat go INSANE killing a few pathetic freys isn’t enough I NEED A REAL WAR CRIME I NEED HER SLAUGHTERING INNOCENT BABIES LET HER ENTER HER VILLAIN ERA FOR REAL
“for the sake of the mother who bore us” CASSANA ESTERMONT MENTION LETS FUCKING GOOOOOOOOOOOooooooooo
can i say i think finn (loras) isn’t that good here either
cersei day drinking omg she is so slushed right now when she raised her cup and slurs out “and i say we should thank them”
the tyrion and lancel scene is so good lmao
now what is the point of this random tiff between irri and doreah
this whole scene where dany is scolding aggo and jhogo over trying to steal something from xaro and then her & jorah talk about how savage the dothraki are……did i just experience a racism akskdjd
when catelyn takes brienne’s hand to swear to her and brienne’s face goes so soft, like she wasn’t expecting the affection. gwendoline christie u r a genius and an icon to all queer people everywhere
i might do something with bran and osha first, they make my heart so soft
changes i noticed
i adore shae & sansa. i love this change i think it’s the best change they ever did. the way sansa just went through this intense dinner & is taking her anger out on shae, just a lowly maid, but shae is so unflappable & notices sansa is crying and just decides to stop bitching. sansa wanting someone to brush her hair when one of the first scenes we got of her was catelyn brushing sansa’s hair…
keeping lommy saying he’ll yield and his murder when he asks to be carried but not the original “what do i do if the wolves come” “yield” joke is so fucking LAME I HATE THESE PEOPLE
talisa…….do i do my talisa rant now or later. do i get super high when i rant so it’s funnier and i don’t get legit angry like i want to omg the westerling disrespect never ends
so the margaery character change is the next big one (i’m not ranting about talisa yet). i understand wanting to focus in on her, how she plays the game, how she ~weaponizes~ her femininity in order to gain status. the thing is. i don’t like the ultimate decision to make margaery & olenna the acting heads of their houses when in reality, the tyrell plot is often olenna trying to act AROUND her dumb ass son!! i think this goes back to aging up those 14 year old characters - just makes their stories a bit hollow imo. also this first dress is so ugly omgggg
WAIT I JUST REALIZED THEY CUT WEASEL??? THE GIRL IS IMPORTANT TOO YOU ABSOLUTE FUCKING FUCKS
i love to drag dany for naivety in Qarth but this adaption isn’t even naivety it’s just stupidity. she just throws a fit on their doorstep, makes some threats, and thinks that’s gonna get her inside. when i tell you how much i fucking hate dany’s story in s2. is dany actually learning about politics & magic not interesting??? compared to this temper tantrum?!??????
show renly and robb should have hooked up
…..details are fuzzy but iirc brienne doesn’t kill anyone here? catelyn convinces robar royce to let her go, and then LORAS kills them & he believes that brienne killed renly until jaime says otherwise
i will give them “i want to be THE queen” is such a good line
i don’t care for the roose/tywin change. they could have cast someone with more star power as roose if they really just wanted to have maisie playing off someone cool for a few episodes.
i have a conspiracy theory i’m not ready to share yet. we’ll circle back next season.

Mortal Kombat Headcanons
Frost
Frost is going through a teenage rebellion of some kind. Yes, she's a bit old for one, but hey every person in their early 20's has a right to be immature. She feels a bit confused, dismissed and disrespected.
Kuai Liang was always her father figure, so Frost internalised and took the Shirai Ryu rivalry very seriously. So when Kuai Liang started making peace with Hanzo she didn't take it very well.
Frost has a wrapped sense of justice and logic thanks to her childhood, considering she killed her own mother. Before becoming a part of the Lin Kuei she lived in a bad environment. (If her mother is truly like Sindel we can only imagine and guess what that was like).
Rain flirts with her all the time, and he is genuinely interested in her. (Can we get her a boyfriend?)
Her acting out is her way of getting everyone's attention, and she believes it's a great way of proving herself.
Mileena
Mileena is desperate for a relationship with Kitana, so she's willing to be an antagonist so long as it means having her attention, but there's still resentment. Even with that resentment Mileena is somewhat caring and protective of her, judging on how she doesn't want Kitana and Liu Kang to marry.
She wants love, and lots of it. She thinks that by having the throne she will be given that love, since Shao Kahn was given it.
Mileena and Frost can become friends.
If things were different, her and Skarlet would get along well.
(Skarlet should've been the Jade to Mileena's Kitana. Why Netherrealm Studios? Why?)
Skarlet
Even though it was Shao Kahn that introduced her to bloodmagic, it was Shang Tsung that taught her how to cope with it. (Since he created her in the flesh pits before her backstory was retconned)
Skarlet experienced racism and classism during her early stay with Shao Kahn, and she longed for Kitana and Jade's respect. Due to their shunning she holds a harsh bitterness towards them.
Based on Rain's intro she is partially Edenian, but is mostly Outworld-ian.
Mileena and Skarlet would never admit it, but they both have a bit of a sibling bond with each other. But it's one of actual rivalry thanks to their narcissistic parental figures. Her infatuation with Shao Kahn is a sign that bloodmagic is slowly and surely leading to her insanity, before she did not view him in that way.
Erron Black is the only person she's had a relationship with. Ever since Erron she hasn't been in a relationship due to the fear of being hurt again, but she has been getting a certain Shaolin's eye on her. (I think Kung Lao was genuinely flattered when he said "We hardly know each other.")
Shang Tsung
He does feel some kind of care for Mileena, but in the end she is like a dish to be proud of and served instead of growing a bond with.
He gets a bit prideful from her accomplishments, though.
"Mileena would never do that thereafter. Mileena did you do that thereafter?"
When Skarlet was much younger she used to follow him around just to see how well he would perform magic in order to improve her own skill.
Noob Saibot
Noob/Bi Han takes a lot of things people say literally. Because of this he is the least antagonistic towards Johnny Cage.
His soul is enslaved so a lot of what he does is not the actual Bi Han, but he is sometimes able to break out of it to deliver a few lines.
He has mistakenly gotten into a few debates with Shang Tsung about the use of dark magic vs soul magic.
Kitana and Jade
Very classist and a bit racist, on Jade's part.
Were mean to Skarlet during their upbringing and intentionally isolated themselves from her.
As much as Kitana doesn't want to admit it, she is much like Shao Kahn.
Kitana is 17-19 in human years. Jade is 21-23.
(I like Kitana and Jade but there's things about them that I don't like)

It's truly astonishing how IDW Sonic as a series manages to be more uncomfortable/infuriating than Netflix Castlevania, a show that tackles (very poorly) far more touchy themes and subjects. Imagined if IDW Sonic tried handling those same themes.
I'm sorry, but no.
IDW Sonic has completely mangled the themes of agency and redemption, that much is true. Sonic has been turned into a preachy hypocritical bitch who will do anything to defend his "principles", including gaslighting his friends and passing off blame for his genuine mistakes, while himself not upholding them when expected ("big oof"). Whisper's trauma gets constantly disrespected by the people that are supposed to be her friends - Tangle, who steals the name of her dead friends for cool points; Lanolin, who treats her like she's insane and uses violence on her; Sonic, who tries to guilt-trip her into accepting Surge into her team. The writing is atrocious, and the lessons it accidentally teaches are atrocious, all because Flynn thinks it's just a "kids' book" so well, he can pretend to be deep but he can't actually think too hard about it.
But NFCV, among its plethora of issues related to its writing and themes - the edgy cynicism, the shallow CHURCH BAD, the veiled racism/xenophobia/Islamophobia, the complete disrespect of victims of trauma who are either played for laugh or treated like dumbasses who deserve to suffer - has honest to god rape apologism. It has a victim falling in love with, and only wanting in his life, a woman who abused him physically, mentally, emotionally and sexually, passing the message that what she did "wasn't so bad after all", because "well she also did him some good", because "he had fun" during his rape by deception (and let's face it, because she's a cute woman who is so sexy when she puts a leash on her male simp puppy 🙂). And it wasn't even intentional: it was the author's fetish gone unchallenged, mixed with his own personal spite against another person on the show. And this is completely indefensible for me. It is vile, it is a genuinely harmful rhetoric from real life, and I will never let it go.
#fans don't look#anti netflixvania#idw made me angry#it made me rant. it made me rage. it made me defend my favorite characters like my life depends on it#it is a besmirching of a series that has accompanied me through my childhood#but nfcv makes me sick to my stomach in a way flynn can only aspire to

i need white people to understand that racism is traumatizing. colonialism is traumatizing. cultural appropriation of sacred practices and beliefs is traumatizing. explaining over and over and over again why something is cultural appropriation is traumatizing. and yes, white people refusing to listen and continue to disrespect your culture is traumatizing!! it’s not just about listening, it’s about actually changing your behavior to make the lives of POC easier because otherwise you are Traumatizing Us. do you know what it’s like to be told over and over again that your culture and your voice doesn’t matter? or that you’ll only be listened to if you fit a very specific niche, only to watch the people saying that refuse to listen to people who DO fit that niche and argue with them? just because they don’t want to change a fucking word?
white entitlement is insane and it’s not an individual attitude that someone has, its an entire cultural upbringing you have to ACTIVELY UNLEARN by LISTENING. white privilege teaches you that you can take and take and conquer. you’re allowed to have anything that you want so long as you go for it. the rest of us are silenced and forced to live in your shadow while you do this.
if you reduce any of this to “just anti endo propaganda” then you’re too white to get your head out of your ass and you’re not safe for POC to be around. that or you’re too attached to internet discourse to actually care about the real lives and trauma of POC. this shit might go away for you when you log off but for the rest of us we have to deal with shit like this every day. just fucking listen for fucks sake. white pro tulpas can fuck off and stop acting like allies.

Tell me more about the way the new superman show portrays Lois and her heritage, Starry.
thank u for sending me this ask so i can go insane. also disclaimer: i am korean american but i was raised by white ppl so i cant be an entirely accurate source! slappin a read more on this bc oh boy. i say words
so just in the first 4 episodes i think they do a spectacular job of making her heritage subtle yet noticable. in the first episode she does the lil heart hands thing, which is the way i've seen kpop idols do it but my brother told me its just kinda the korean equiv of heart hands
and then in the 4th episode she wears a jeogori, which is the top of a hanbok (korean traditional wear)
(image taken from the 'jeogori' wikipedia page)
i also wanna note the little top shes wearing under her jacket looks like a traditional viet top (source: my friend who is viet) so double slay
and then beyond that, i really like the way she's designed visually. she doesn't fall under the classic tropes and stereotypes that most animation companies do when designing east asians. she isn't pale (which is a colorism issue, i actually have the same skin color as her), she doesn't have long flowing black hair or on the flip side she doesn't have a purple streak or anything, and she isn't drawn with stereotypical slits for eyes. she's just a normal korean-american woman!!! she's also voiced by a korean, which is super nice to see! i know people joke about her looking and sounding like luz but, yknow.
and then in episode 4 she goes to this fancy high-rise party where she isn't taken seriously and is even insulted on her mannerisms and looks. she's the only woman there wearing something that isn't 1. a dress and 2. western-styled. so they're ostrasizing her based on her heritage as well as her class, though it's interesting that all the women ivo points to as 'classy women' are woc so it is more abt classism. jimmy, a black man, gets disrespected as a photographer and people ignore lois entirely even though some people are willing to speak to clark, who is white. its subtle but like ive been there. she also strays away from the model minority myth--she refuses to take the safe route.i think its a rlly nice and subtle way to show classism and racism without it like, just telling you. i could go on forever abt clark being a jewish immigrant adoptee too he's part of the group even tho he's white (passing). i like the way the show kinda plays around with "but hes not like us/hes dangerous!" no matter how nice he is-- its the same model minority stuff nimona touched on with no matter how nice you are people will still see your worst. but i digress
and just generally abt how they portray lois: i really like her!!! bc it's a younger version of her (superman origin story), it makes sense that she's super spunky and peppy since she's an intern rn. but she's still the kind of woman who runs headfirst into danger without thinking. i like that her character is 'i hate being lied to' because of her past with her dad which then in turn makes her a super nosy reporter who wants the truth. cant wait 2 see what happens next week now that she figured out clark is superman
#asks#my adventures with superman#this show is super cute i dont rlly care how accurate or inaccurate it is to lore so far#ik the futuristic tech is just kinda the way this animation studio works#its a show for the girlies!!! idc!!!! its shoujo!!!#maws spoilers#the best part of the new episode was lois's backless shirt <3 i love women#long post#SORRY I LOVE THIS SHOW RUNS ALONG THE WALLS

Different anon, but. Look, I was already boycotting the song itself and everything from the day it was announced. But at this point, I feel this really weird uneasy feeling that I can only describe as: I'm not sure if I want to be a STAY anymore.
With things going the BTS Americanization Route (with extra Zionism), it just feels so starkly different from the SKZ and 3Racha that I admired originally. Not that changing music style is bad itself (they changed quite a bit from the start of 2020 to 2023). But it feels less like a change made from growth, and more like getting stripped of what made their whole thing appealing originally.
And I see it with parts of the fandom too. Yes, there's still some nice fans. But now we have a bunch that are so focused on streamings and chart ratings and big numbers, rather than if they actually like the music.
I miss when most Stays would joke about how their view counts were all ''organic''. Now they're raising money to get collab songs on the charts. I miss when most Stays were proud multistans, and their v-live fan forum would regularly be sprinkled with posts about Ateez or TXT or Day6, or even Limesoda.
And the weird thing is: I told myself back in the late 2010s that I wouldn't get caught up too much in the celebrity fandom thing. That I wouldn't put SKZ on a pedestal, so that I wouldn't get disappointed if things went south somehow. But now, I subconsciously hesitate to listen to even their other songs, even if it's through unofficial or pirating means. And I feel like I'm over-reacting, and it's frustrating.
Sorry for the rant. I just feel like I need a second opinion on this.
i think this is honestly a valid reaction and feeling this way is valid too because even i feel this way about kpop in general and kpop groups like even before all of these boycotts started to unfold i was just SO jaded with this "community" if we can even call it that. the way some people are behaving lately towards this boycott is unveiling the fact that some people just care about streaming and buying and that's it! that's their whole purpose as a fan and then also shun people that don't wanna do it and for what reason? also, the fact that i've seen so much racism come to light with this! people getting harassed for wanting to stand for something and being pro palestinian, palestinian fans getting harassed for calling shit out because yes their feelings are super valid and especially when the group they stan is saying nothing and the company they are under is employing zionists, they can feel betrayed like idgaf about what people say! even before this when fans would call out idols for being ignorant these fans would be racist to these fans for being hurt like?? what is this culture we are creating in these spaces is what i am asking?? i knew it was like that even before all of this but lately it's like i am getting hit with realizations left and right it's so insane how some people are acting. whether some people like it or not, we are allowed to feel disappointed and criticize them. even i feel stupid for these types of things bc it's like you mentioned we should know better and yet we put these people on pedestals and for what? it's all very valid concerns to have especially this time around! so many companies want groups to be international but then dgaf about international fans' opinion and they never did to begin with how do expect people to want to stan these groups when they do disrespectful shit and you pretend we don't exist unless we give you money
#this reply is all over the place#but anon this is very valid#even tho i gave people resources to like these groups songs and etc#i have barely listen to kpop songs lately myself#it just feels odd and understand you completely#a lot of things happening are very eye opening and it's#sad that it got to this point tbh#asks#anon

fuck it here’s the alternative universe one too
this one goes by bethanne/beth/bethany. does not goes by betty. strictly dnd/cos. I can always write her here, but unlike betty’s lore which jumps around timelines, hers is strictly cos based. mainly because once you enter barovia, good fucking luck getting out at that point GDHCBVB
- despite her appearance and strength, she’s the most watered down version of betty. a lot more rational, gentle, and empathetic. a gentle giant.
- looks like she’ll kill you. is actually a cinnamon bun. takes after her late mama andréa. very mama bear oriented. tries to reconcile with words over violence first. usually just tired all the damn time. has her feral moments.
- not to say she’s a pushover though oh my god no she’s the party’s tank and has done INSANE shit to people who fuck with her ‘pack’. her strength is 24 and intimidation has a +4. zealot barbarian as myrkul’s (god of necromancy and the undead) death knight, oathbreaker because she told kelemvor to go fuck himself and he killed her for that. this one has told MULTIPLE gods to go fuck themselves. she and betty share the same distinct hatred toward authority, anyone who disrespects the undead, and the gods. this one is the true advocate for the undead as she walks as not entirely myrkul’s vengeance toward the disrespect, but as his patience and gentleness toward death. our myrkul is homebrewed to be a shepherd of souls as opposed to his early days where he was a downright menace lmao dude just wants to not be forgotten as a god and she walks in his footsteps in order to keep him in existence.
- this bitch. looks like a tank. her arms are GUNS. it takes the ENTIRE PARTY to pull her away. if you get punched by her, you’re going to the ER. she’s so scared of holding tiny creatures because she doesn’t want to accidentally hurt them. think of striga from castlevania, same build and accent, just deeper.
- she often hides in the shadows. not to be shady, she’s just ashamed of her appearance. she doesn’t want to scare people. it’s just how the Nosferatu strand works. betty can cast illusionary spells — beth knows no magic. her faith and weaponry are the closest to magical ties.
- heavy female lean. basically a lesbian. she will occasionally flirt and bed other people, but she’s very committed to trying win cassandra’s heart. since our campaign is entirely homebrewed cause the og cos is pretty fUCKING BAD LOL it’s now LGBT friendly without all the racism and sexism and strahd being a degenerate. still extremely dark. our strahd was gender bent — cassandra strahd von zarovich. it’s my favorite trope ever because not only are these two hot vampire lesbians but it’s beauty and the beast. cass is an extremely attractive noble and baroness who committed herself to vampirism as a young vistani in order to save her family. the court murdered her wife and her daughter’s status is unknown. she’s lost in grief and madness after the curse and her intentions are unknown atm. beth is a nosferatu barbarian who wears her enemies’ skulls on her attire who was forced into vampirism when a nosferatu beast slaughtered her entire vistani vardo and bit her. she could’ve went down cass’ path of hatred for the world, but instead she fights out of love. seeks to redeem cass and break her curse. she’s only met cass once after she saved our party and knows she’s been watching the party and has so many questions for the vampiress. beth has been collecting info on her and trying to track her down for a month and a half now because she’s that dedicated in making sure she doesn’t suffer any further as someone who’s in constant suffering herself. they’re two sides of the same coin tbh. I could go on and on about them I’m SO soft for this ship

hello!
I would like to ask you something about the show Supernatural. So, I have almost finished watching Chilling Adventures of Sabrina on Netflix and I wanted to watch something else. Would you recommend watching Supernatural? And is watching Supernatural worth it? Could you tell me your face things about the show and your least favorite things? Thank you :)
Hoo boy friend. This is. A complicated question.
I'll start with the easiest parts to answer and work up to the hard parts.
My favorite things about Supernatural?
The characters. The aesthetics of the early seasons. The way folklore and urban legends are utilized in the early seasons. The music. The way the characters get to grow and evolve so much because you get so many years with them. The little details. The themes of found family, resilience, and hope in the face of impossible odds. The incredible coolness and creativity of some of the ideas the writers came up with over the years. The critiques of religion and religious power structures. The road trip format. The way the show, at its best, is utterly unforgettable writing, editing, sound design, music, acting, and set design. Most of the cast. The fandom experience. The fact that nothing ever stays dead and buried, least of all the show that ended over 2 years ago.
My least favorite things about Supernatural?
The inconsistency in the show's quality from season to season and episode to episode. The way side characters are forgotten, killed off, or treated as unimportant. The way the show was never allowed to fully evolve past its season 1 formula.
The lack of representation. The underlying racism, queerphobia, and xenophobia in the show's premise and execution that were unfortunately typical of network television from the early 2000s but that the show never fully unpacked or addressed in much later seasons. The carelessness with which certain writers handled certain character arcs and themes. The way so much of the creativity ends up being wasted potential. The lack of creativity in the monster design. The utter disrespect of that godforsaken ending.
Would I recommend watching Supernatural?
This is where it gets rough. And I'll just say...it depends.
Do you want a silly little show you can just watch, take at face value, and then forget about when the television is off? If so, Supernatural may not be the show for you. I mean you CAN consume it that way, but doing so practically guarantees you are experiencing the worst possible version of it.
Do you want a multi-layered 15-year fever dream of a metatextual hyperfixation that you can really sink your teeth into, analyze, compare show to scripts to writer and actor comments to fandom takes and get something new and contradictory out of every time you revisit it?
Do you want characters who will become like dear friends and break your heart and mend it too? Do you want an unparalleled media experience that is still ongoing and a fandom that verges on unhinged but mostly in a fun way? Do you want to dive headfirst into a show so insane that none of the actors who worked on it can be normal about it to this day?
Do you want context for some of the best goddamn fanfic you will ever read in your life, and the largest ship on AO3 in terms of sheer number of fics for one pairing, literally more fic for this one pairing than you could read in a single human lifetime?
Then yeah. I would highly recommend watching Supernatural.
Is Supernatural worth it?
Well...that depends. In addition to the questions above, consider...How much mess are you willing to put up with from a piece of media? How much lore external to the actual show are you willing to consume in order to have a full understanding of the story? And how unhinged are you prepared to be over a couple white dudes from Kansas and their grumpy-sweet Midwestern angel? How many friends do you want to make over a TV show? How ready are you to hear your existing friends and family beg you to talk about ANYTHING else for a while?
And depending on how you answered all of those questions
...would you like me to send you the mp4 files for the first several seasons? Because the Netflix version edited a lot of the show's original music, and it sucks.

I think an overblot Sebek would be interesting to see! Or maybe an overblot Rook?
This is honestly gonna end up going into crack territory so I’m so sorry to all of y’all. Also i will continue making edits because they’re fun! Anyway they’re kinda short but please enjoy
Cw// racism (against beastmen), body horror-ish, body dysmorphia, psychological distress, physical violence, overblots
Overblot Sebek
The faithful retainer of the faerie prince, fallen from grace? What an interesting thought.
Sebek has never been one well liked among the school, nor his kind. As a half faerie, he learned to be hated and to hate himself in turn. He verbally abused the students around him, condescendingly telling them, “not bad, for a human…”
The beckoning, too good to be true, and the promise given by a powerful faerie rung around his head for too long. He shunned it, at first, as nobody could be so powerful as what they’d claimed.
He pushed off the thought for weeks, focusing harder on his studies. Perhaps, if he were…
The faerie returned to him later, offering him a potion in an emerald green bottle.
Sebek drank it down. He screamed as he shed his human half, leaving him as a full fledged faerie. He thought this would make him feel better, make him feel more worthy. Make him better.
He found that his new form only served to scare others away. He didn’t feel the same, but he didn’t feel more powerful. Simply…less himself. It was nearly a month of this adjustment before he went to Malleus and Lilia, begging them to help undo it.
“I can’t undo a boon granted, Sebek. I’m sorry.”
This was a punishment, wasn’t it? He didn’t understand. Malleus is powerful, insanely so. Sebek was loyal, wasn’t he? He only ever wanted to help, he did this because he wanted to be better, to be able to protect someone. Humans were weak, having a half human guard made him weak, didn’t it?
Sebek sobbed, begging Malleus, asking what he had done wrong.
He became so overwhelmed, so distressed, felt so abandoned, that he overblotted.
His overblot form was more reptilian than he had been before. His teeth were even sharper, his eyes narrower. He looked more like a beastman than a faerie, but acted like neither. He simply acted like a wild animal, snapping at those around him.
He didn’t mean to. He didn’t want to be this way, but he had made a terrible mistake.
It didn’t take much to end the battle and return him to his (new) normal. After a lot of coaxing and encouraging, Lilia and Malleus found ways to help with his new adjustment. Malleus hadn’t lied when he said he couldn’t reverse it - the spell, he physically could not break, though it was also against faerie law to do so.
Sebek got better. He learned to be himself, even if he looked different. He took potions to help with any urges he didn’t know what to do with, he took careful care of his appearance to help with body dysmophia. Overall, he recovered, even if life looked a little different now.
Overblot Rook
Rook is a little difficult to imagine overblotting, isn’t he? I mean, he’s a rather happy guy who finds the beauty in everything. His signature spell he admits isn’t super powerful or even strong. So what on earth could cause him to overblot?
For me, I think it could be one of two things. Someone is completely intent on ruining every piece of joy he can find, irritating him to the point of actually managing to get him violent, or something magical is influencing his behavior
A new student appeared in Pomefiore, a sulking, sad type much better suited for Ignihyde. He was constantly around, lurking at corners. Everything Rook said, every praise he gave freely, was contradicted by this…this plebeian.
The blatant disrespect for the artistry and beauty of the world! The insults to his interest, the constant berating of those trying their finest to improve, it’s simply diabolical in Rook’s eyes.
What starts as annoyance begins to amp up the more this person harasses him, poking at any ‘weakness’ and being honestly just…awful.
“Beastmen seem so dirty and gross. The sunset savannah sounds dry, and underdeveloped. I feel bad for the people there that Leona’s their prince, he barely qualifies as a student”
Rook is seeing red before he can think, honestly. He’s got this student pinned down, kneeling on the center of their back. His fingers dig in painfully to the crook of their neck, and his teeth almost look like fangs right now.
“Say it again.” He hisses into their ear, causing the student to start shaking in fear.
The shadow of a huntsman leers behind Rook’s crouched form. One of its arms is a hunting knife, the other carries the heart of a pig that pumps with each moment.
He’s not terrifying in terms of magic, but his ability to run, hunt, hide, and attack is unparalleled. He’s fast, he’s strong, and he’s incredibly dangerous to anyone that fucks with him.
He has no issue taking out his classmates, though he doesn’t do anything to permanently cause pain. A free broken legs, a few people chained to a wall to keep them out of the way, a close eye on anyone who could take him out easily and a quick ensnaring of his prey leaves the pool of people who can fix this very slim.
It’s the teachers, and specifically Vargas, that have to step in and end this. Rook never took much mind to the coach, but that was a mistake on his part. Coach has him knocked out in roughly five minutes of a fight and is already carrying him to the infirmary.
Rook will honestly never make up with the student that made him overblot. He will, however, apologize to his classmates when he’s recovered because now people flinch away from him.
Also the student that pissed him off transferred to a different school

politics readmore. talking about conservates that aren't [solely] racist fundies
if you actually listen to what conservatives say, and value (besides racism both implicit and overt), it's not a mystery why they think the way they do. they want their labor to be valued, and paid fairly. this is something anyone wants. the thing is, they believe that under socialism, their labor will be exploited without compensation to take care of people that just don't want to work. regardless of whether that's true - or which financial system it best describes - doesn't the idea suck? i'd hate that too.
furthermore, they understand that more and more of the country is voting democratic, and that they are a minority. the thing is, this doesn't make them wonder if they're wrong, because they believe most of the population is stupid. many republicans are boomers saying "kids these days," and many younger republicans are the "kids" in question trying desperately not to seem stupid like the rest of their generation. i remember being a teenager and doing horrible things in the name of being mature, because i was terrified of being disrespected and not taken seriously by adults i valued and respected. if those adults had been conservative, it's entirely possible that i would've adopted a sneering mindset, to ingratiate myself to them. maybe you wouldn't have done that. but i might have. and many people have done so. even if they're their twenties, they still value the wisdom of their family, and they disregard ideas that their family tells them are stupid.
if you go on reddit's front page, maybe 40% of the content you'll see right away is depicting people as stupid. "mildly infuriating," "am i the asshole," "petty revenge," "kids are fucking stupid," "insane parents," so on and so forth. all of these have communities built around humiliating the people posted there, with varying degrees of intensity. on subreddits like aita, you get upvotes for being snappy enough in your response, and the highest upvoted comment in the replies is given an award.
this is not, in itself, conservative propaganda. in fact, many people participating are leftists, and there are many subreddits like r/therightcantmeme that are explicitly leftist in nature, and are built around public humiliation. i don't associate this behavior exclusively with being liberal or conservative, but i don't consider it apolitical either. rather, i think it fosters a growing misanthropy within us - one that's been a part of western culture since before America even existed, but is being fed by the internet like mold on a rotting apple.
how many people do you know that have been the target of widespread online humilation? who have been the day's top idiot on the front page? i don't know anyone who has personally (and i'm grateful for that, because the long term psychological effects of that are absolutely devastating and i wouldn't wish them on anybody) and you likely know very few such people, if anyone at all. out of the people you meet, almost none are catastrophically stupid or rude enough to catch the internet's attention.
but 1% of the population is still a lot of people. if you've been conditioned to believe that that 1% represents a high percentage of society (ever heard the phrase "imagine how stupid the average person is - 50% of the population is dumber than that"?), why would you be surprised that over 50% of the country is "voting like idiots"? if you genuinely believe most people around you are so stupid they're a danger to others, why would you value their opinions, or let them tell you you're wrong about anything? hell, why would you want them to be allowed to vote at all, whether they're ex-convicts or just regular "dangerous idiots"? you comfort yourself that you're a bastion of rationality. it keeps you sane within your fear.
this misanthropy is a major part of the internet feedback loop. you're engaged by seeking negativity, and you're rewarded for being cruel in a funny way as a response. and by funding and perpetuating it, those with greater financial and political sway are able to keep a frothing, terrified base that's willing to tread the path of religious fundamentalism to protect themselves and their loved ones from what they perceive to be the greater danger.
it's part of why i hate the way many people mock conservatives. not that i pity the conservatives in question, but i know "information" (witty tweets) is being shared under the premise of enlightening people and making them rethink their positions... it's just an excuse to laugh at them and feel better about yourself. some ex-conservatives DID rethink their positions from those witty one liners, and i commend them for it, because god knows if someone mocked me for my beliefs i would just get defensive. you're not really trying to help.
the average reddit liberal has a lot of fun saying "you can't actually believe the cheeto in the white house wanted to help you. he literally made his ex partners get abortions" or whatever in the same tone that another person would use to tell me i can't possibly believe there's more than two genders. there's a difference. one is factually correct, and the other is a biological essentialist with a less-than-eighth-grade understanding of biology. but that doesn't mean it's much better.
idk. no point ranting about reddit on a different social media platform really. just. cool joke dude, you really owned them. now try saying something empathetic and kind or whatever
#it's not wrong to want to be safe and valued and compensated. that in itself is not a problem.#AVERAGE DOG OPINION
