I'm sorry what was this quick switch from Kol where he's just completely fine with Freya now. Just fucking hanging out
#last episode we had davina's funeral and when we saw freya we were still enraged about what happened#we told her we're leaving and that he never asked for her to come back#and now suddenly he's just casually talking to her about the spells she's doing#the quickest character assassination in the west#mad curious if he'll be mad again in season 5 and this just was some lazy writing#or if he's just completely chill with her (and elijah) now despite davina's body barely even being cold yet#kol mikaelson#the originals#the originals 3x22#kolvina

I'm sorry I just cannot believe that 3x22 the savage curtain introduced the dilemma of spock having to choose between following the actual personification of vulcan history and philosophy, or kirk, and then resolved it so quickly that it was barely even a source of stress for either of them. the answer was kirk, btw. in case that wasn't obvious.
SURAK: I will not harm others, Captain.
SPOCK: His convictions are most profound in this matter, Captain.
KIRK: So are mine, Spock. If I believed that there was a peaceful way out of this --
SURAK: The risk will be mine alone. If I fail, you lose nothing. After all, I'm no warrior.
SPOCK: The captain knows that I have fought at his side before and will do so now, if need be. However, I too, am a Vulcan, bred to peace. Let him attempt it.
spock is saying, let him do as he sees fit. let him follow his own principles. and let me stay by your side. kirk tells him to gather weapons in case surak fails, and spock does. he is casting aside the philosophy he was raised with in favour of war, and he's doing it for kirk.
KIRK: Your Surak is a brave man.
SPOCK: Men of peace usually are, Captain. On Vulcan, he is revered as the father of our civilisation. The father image holds much meaning for us.
KIRK: You show emotion, Spock.
SPOCK: I deeply respect what he has accomplished.
KIRK: I hope he accomplishes something here, and soon.
kirk is complimenting surak, and I do think he genuinely means it, but the way he says it comes off like an apology. like he knows what spock just let go of for him, and he wants to make sure spock is okay.
spock says, men of peace, and he is not counting himself as one of them. I think that's what makes kirk look up like that. throughout the show, he does use violence, but outside extreme situations he does it sparingly and elegantly -- the nerve pinch, the simple side step of a punch -- and usually advocates for a more peaceful solution. now, he's admitting how he has changed. he values peace. but he can't call himself an instrument of it.
and now he's comparing surak to a father image. christian implications aside (and that is difficult with star trek sometimes), he is standing beside kirk in spite of surak's and his own vulcan father's teachings, too. he sharpens his spear and looks frustrated with himself. he shows emotion. and he doesn't deny it, either! he says sincerely that he respects surak's accomplishments, and kirk stares at him, because that's more emotion than he generally cares to show, especially after it's pointed out to him. (early in the episode, surak points out his emotion on seeing him, and spock begs forgiveness. he is no longer looking for that from surak. spock has made his choice.)
he's angry at himself. and as a peace offering, kirk says he hopes surak has managed to broker peace here and now. even though you can tell from his tone and the fact that he's still making his own weapon that he isn't optimistic.
(and all of this is putting aside the fact that surak is definitely a jesus figure and spock rejecting his philosophy and forgiveness for an imperfect man is another kind of huge character choice. this has to be pointed out.)
idk how they managed to air this in the 60s. but I'm very glad they did.

3x22 au with castle and beckett in the pool together pleeease
Castle wades in the shallow end, the pool mostly empty save for a man swimming laps and a woman, whom he just watched dive into the deep end. Her gaze snags on him the second she comes up for air.
She swims over to him with irritation in her eyes flaring like the sun overhead.
“I told you to stay on the deck,” Beckett growls.
“Beckett, people have seen us here together,” he reasons, trying so very hard to stop his eyes from wandering past her face, down to the exposed skin of her chest, sun-kissed and decorated with rivulets of water that race to converge at the v of her swimsuit. “Don’t you think it might look suspicious if I sit by and sip piña coladas while you seduce Royce’s killer?”
She doesn’t buy his reasoning. Not at all.
“Okay, okay, I also wanted to swim in the pool. It’s a nice pool, Beckett-”
Kate curses under her breath and flicks her eyes over his shoulder, her gaze landing on something that has her straightening in the water. Russell Ganz, he’s certain, and she confirms it when her gaze snaps back to meet his.
“Okay, since you ruined my original plan, we’re going to have to improvise.”
“I’m game. So how-” He chokes on his question as Kate places her hands to his bare shoulders. Her fingers dig into his skin ever so lightly as she uses him for purchase to reel herself in close. Her body glides through the distance between them, drifting through the water until her arms are lacing snugly around his neck.
"Castle."
He can't breathe.
"Castle," she snaps, but her lips are curled in a tight smile. "You're making me look bad. Touch me back."
"Say less," he mutters, reaching for her thighs.
She gasps in surprise when he hefts her up, her legs instinctively curling around his waist.
"I said touch not - grab," she huffs, but her arms remain folded around his neck.
"I didn't grab," he murmurs, slipping his palms up her thighs, past her hips, and splaying them wide at her spine. Her lips purse. "I'm just playing the part of a very interested male companion."
Beckett smirks, leans forward to tilt her mouth towards his ear. "So your normal role?"
"Funny," he mutters, but he's trailing his fingers up the line of her vertebrae, savoring the hitch in her breath, the stutter of it in his ear. "But you're not wrong. Though, I'd call this a more hands-on approach."
"Castle, I am trying to get Ganz's attention, stop-"
"Distracting you?" he grins, one of his hands lifting to curve along her shoulder.
He loves the structure of her bones, the strength he can see carved into her shoulders. He traces the bone of her clavicle with care, hooks his thumb under the strap of her suit.
Her head turns, nose bumping into his cheek. "He's on his phone. Not looking yet. Stop."
"I'm just touching. You said to touch-"
"I'm going to hit you," she mutters, unfurling her arms to cup her hands at his nape, lean back in his grasp. And oh, her eyes are... dark. "When he looks this way, I'm going to shove you away and get out of the pool. He'll follow."
"How can you be so sure?" he asks, lowering the hand at her shoulder back to her outer thigh. Which is pressing snugly into his hip. Holy shit he can't believe he has Kate Beckett wrapped around him.
"Because I have a plan," she shrugs, her own eyes tripping down his face, over his mouth, down to his chest.
The elegant line of her throat ripples.
Her thumb is moving in a maddening circle just below his ear, her palm draped at his pulse point. She's so close, her lips just inches away from his, the heat of her body flush with his, ruining the reprieve of the water.
He's going to kiss her. Again.
"Beckett?"
Her eyes flutter and she shakes her head.
"I'm sorry."
"What-"
And then she dunks his head under the water.
-
He's dripping wet and waiting for her when she meets him behind the bushes. But before he can say a word, she's poking him.
"Ow!" he hisses, protecting his chest before she can stab him again while she whisper yells at him.
"He called me green, Castle! What the hell were you doing?"
"I saw his phone in the cabana after you tried to drown me," he scowls. "I thought it was worth the risk."
"You took his phone?"
"No, I took a picture of his recent calls list while you were busy flirting it up."
"What?" The smile spreads wide across her face. "Where is it?"
"Don't poke me," he warns as he digs for the phone in his pocket.
"Poke you? I wanna kiss you," she grins, taking the phone from his proffered hand.
He tightens his grip on the thick towel around his waist. His life can be so unfair.
"I'd like that," he risks. "Least you could do after you dunked me."
"Oh please," she sighs, glancing up at him with mischief in her eyes.
"Beckett, water went up my nose. Do you know how unpleasant-"
She lifts on her toes, lips at his cheek and dangerously close to his mouth.
She presses a kiss to his skin.
"Better?" she husks, and he curls his fingers at her hipbone, fisting the slinky, wet fabric of her wrap, her swimsuit, in his hand.
He exhales slowly. This new game they're playing, teasing the fire between them... he's not sure he can survive it.
"For now."

To clarify, this does not mean your favorite episode, but rather, your favorite episode of this ship. Because this had to be whittled down so much to fit into the amount of spaces available for a poll, this doesn't include every Adrinette episode, so feel free to click other and put your episode in the tags!
This is for the purpose of satisfying my curiosity of ship trends in ml, so please share for a larger sample size!

What are your favourite slow burns?
Here are some that I have enjoyed, and are well liked. ~Jen
About-face by @quizasvivamos
At the start of the Marching Band season his sophomore year, Blaine is the youngest Drum Major in McKinley High history. However, none of his peers believe he deserves the title, especially a handful of embittered upperclassmen, including one particularly stubborn Color Guard Captain, who challenges him in more ways than one.
~~~~~
Near Misses by flaming_muse
Kurt and Blaine could easily not have met on a staircase in high school. They could have met a few years later in college instead.
This story is AU from within 2x06 ("Never Been Kissed"), with many of the broad strokes of canon remaining except where I thought they would be different because of the AU or other factors. It takes place in Blaine's first year of college, starting about a year from now. There are some spoilers through 3x22 (“Goodbye”).
Butterfly Wings by @hkvoyage
A fashion blog started at University launched Blaine Anderson’s fortune and fame. As Vogue’s new editor-in-chief, he is struggling to find an original angle for an upcoming issue. Kurt Hummel has recently arrived in New York City after finishing high school, and is having no luck building a musical theater career, so he decides to explore another passion of his: fashion. He applies for an internship at Vogue, and Isabelle sees in him the perfect fresh face to liven up the magazine, and convinces him to try out as a model. Kurt meets Blaine, and in spite of their 10-year age difference, sparks fly. Can they overcome misunderstandings and sabotage to find their happily-ever-after? Klaine model AU.
Out of Eden by @wowbright currently 64/75 chapters Part of Glory of the Stars (Mormon!Klaine Universe) . The author has written it previously on tumblr, and is adapting it and putting it on A03. This present verse has been updated to a very appropriate part, and will be added to.
As a gay Mormon, Kurt Hummel has decided to go the rest of his life without falling in love. But toward the end of his two years as a missionary in Germany, Elder Anderson moves into his apartment—and Kurt's best-laid plans fall apart.
(75 chapters is an estimate. It's not necessary to have read the previous works in this series to follow this one, or to read the works in order. I try to make most things understandable from context. You can start this and, if you like it, hop back to the earlier stories as you wait for new chapters to post.)
How Hyde Is a Good Friend to Eric
Season 1:
Hyde tries to help writing Eric's term paper while Eric is busy with his grandmother's visit. ("Sunday, Bloody Sunday" [1x10])
Hyde chooses to stay in Point Place in large part because Eric doesn't want him to leave. ("Punk Chick" [1x22])
After a drunk Eric is knocked unconscious by one punch at a bar, Hyde initiates defending his honor by getting into a bar fight with Eric's assailant and his buddies. ("Grandma's Dead" [1x23])
When Eric wants to bounce a bowling ball on the living room floor, Hyde tries to dissuade him. ("The Good Son" [1x25])
Hyde takes responsibility for the television Eric breaks, risking homelessness by doing so because Red might kick him out of the house while Eric's potential punishment would be far less severe. ("The Good Son")
Season 2:
Hyde helps Eric wrangle a high Red and get Eric's car back, which Red sold. ("Garage Sale" [2x01])
To open Red's eyes about who Laurie truly is and to get Eric vengeance on the years of Laurie getting away with bullying him, Hyde supports and encourages Eric to reveal the truth about Laurie sleeping with her college professor. ("Laurie and the Professor" [2x04])
Hyde defuses Donna's anger at Eric and feelings of betrayal by talking with her and giving her a different perspective. ("Van Stock" [2x06])
Throughout the season, Hyde doesn't burn Eric about Kelso sleeping with Laurie and tries to convince Kelso to end his affair with her. (Note: Eric's claim in season 7 that Hyde relentlessly burned him about Kelso and Laurie is a retcon that has no evidence whatsoever on the show. The retcon was written for that episode's punchline and contradicts all the episodes and seasons before it.)
Season 3:
To protect Eric from Red's wrath, Hyde tells Eric not to confess to smoking pot, too, despite that Hyde is now homeless because Red kicked him out of the house. ("Reefer Madness" [3x01])
Hyde holds Eric's hand while Leo tattoos Eric's butt. ("Eric's Drunken Tattoo" [3x22])
Season 4
Hyde takes the lead on trying to lift Eric's spirits and doesn't let Kelso or Fez abandon Eric when Eric first rejects their help. Hyde gives up only when Eric becomes a little hostile and makes clear his grief has too strong a hold on him that day. ("Eric's Depression" [4x02])
Hyde breaks up with his girlfriend, Jill, to be more available to Eric. He also lies that she broke up with him so that Eric won't feel pitied. ("The Third Wheel" [4x11])
Hyde supports Eric when Eric learns Donna's going on a date with Casey Kelso. ("Donna Dates a Kelso" [4x16])
Origin Story: In first grade, Hyde becomes Eric's protector from bullies, starting with Donna. ("Class Picture" [4x20]) (Yes, it's a total retcon that Donna bullied Eric when they were young, and I don't accept it as canon. But Hyde absolutely would become Eric's protector. He still is during the time of the show.)
Hyde stays up all night pulling the fire alarm at the Le Motel to stop Donna from having sex with Casey. He does this for Eric and Donna, out of his friendship with and protectiveness of both of them. ("Eric's False Alarm" [4x25])
Season 5
Hyde buys Eric a plane ticket to California (albeit with Eric's money) so he can reconcile with Donna and covers for him to Red and Kitty the whole time Eric's gone. ("Going to California" [5x01])
Hyde advises Eric against making the same mistake that broke up Eric and Donna in season 3. Although Hyde fortunately turns out to be wrong about the outcome, his heart is in the right place: friendship. ("Hot Dog" [5x07])
After season 5, Hyde and Eric's storylines don't focus on their friendship, but their friendship is ever-present. They both demonstrate their love for and support of each other in short scenes and a few lines of dialogue.
What were some of the story beats you think stelena do better than phole?
cole fighting his demon nature for phoebe.
i think stelena does it better.
the whole cole trying to scare her away and get her to dump him and phoebe being stubborn in her love for him and they're trying to kill feelings that they can't shake i don't believe any of it.
like, there is the writing where i don't think i've been given any real reason as to why they would have this connection at all but i'd be willing to overlook that if alyssa and julian sold the pain and sold the angst by themselves but they don't. it's reliance on storylines like phoebe turning into a banshee because she was in pain and then as a banshee being attracted to cole because of his pain, which again i would be fine with, like how i love the demonstration of stelena's love through stefan literally doing the impossible and fighting an original's compulsion because of his love for his elena but stefan and elena sell their story just by nina and paul being in the same space (plus they have the writing)
but when cole and phoebe get together, i'm just like ... i've seen angst done properly with the same sort of storylines for me to care about any of this. like obviously charmed came out before tvd but even as a kid i was like um...buffy and angel did this better??
like, cole monotonously telling her that he was given a second chance and he blew it
compared to stefan trying to scare elena away with his vamp face
even the torture of 1x19.
his face, her face
but this is supposed to sell their circumstance for me?
when there's this? the earnestness in stefan's face?
and nina isn't trying to get to a place she's at the place with paul
and then in 3x22 when they do the whole did the potion really work? and you get your answer with a passionate kiss
i much prefer living in that kind of moment, in the tension like the 3x03 closet scene. where they're just looking at each other.
stefan sees her and he reacts, you see it in how his neck clenches,
and then he's given the test -- is he too far gone or not, but cole and phoebe don't have tension to work with so i'm not living in this situation with them, it's all kind of perfunctory. this is the best they can do
Did Paul and Ian have any disagreement or conflict with julie and co. over their characters' arc and the overall narrative?The original ending was that the brothers would die together but that was season 2.The story changed a lot.Why were they so adamant about their character's death?It's like they didn't care about anything else.
The only thing I know for sure Paul was in disagreement about with the writers was Stefan letting Elena drown and saving Matt in 3x22. Every chance he gets he will tell you he hated that lol, he said he even stopped them when rehearsing it or something and was like I don't really think this makes sense. Ian whined about DE but most of that was probably him being butthurt over Nina. They say they wanted their characters to die because they both did awful things and didn't deserve redemption, I also think they wanted their characters to be dead so in their minds the characters were laid to rest. In their delusional little minds they thought that would end ship questions but it's like don't keep attending cons centered around the show if you don't want to talk about the show.
