just had a cishet white dude complain to me that the business world doesn't take him as seriously if he doesn't grow a beard.
mf, image being a woman in this patriarchal society. no beard cheat-code. you just gotta deal with it and let your work speak for itself. 🙃

The Straights(TM): noooo you can't ship two same-gender characters because they're just friends! Clearly(TM) you've never had any experience with Friendship(TM)
me: *talks about my best friend and explicitly refers to him as my Best Friend*
The Straights(TM), every time, without fail: ........is he your boyfriend?
#sorry to bring this up again but i felt like finding another creative way to point out the hypocrisy#ironic isn't it#for those who don't know me: i'm afab genderqueer and my best friend is a man#and yes we are very affectionate and i've written poetry about him#but if you look up the word “bromance” in a dictionary there's just a picture of us#i am well aware of the existence of friendship and i appreciate it greatly#doesn't change the fact that i want to see the fictional guys kiss#shipping#shipping discourse#the straights

How do straight dudes not understand women being attracted to femboys? Dudes wanting the "girl who likes sports and is just like the bros" is literally the same shit

unlabeled and comfortable labeled people, asexuals and people who feel sexual attraction, living happily together inside the queer community shows how you don´t have to understand others to accept them.
and this is something The Straights have to understand.
i may not understand how people love being unlabeled, but i believe they do love it and accept it.
if you don´t understand korean writing system, it doesn´t mean that it doesn´t exist

what if your doppelgänger wasn’t evil it was just a person. what if your doppelgänger wasn’t trying to replace you it was just trying to learn to be a person and you were the best model it had. what if your doppelgänger looked at you with your eyes and said with your voice that it just wanted to be loved. what then.
#aelan speaks#fornax cain#fun fact i used to think imposter syndrome was more literal#not so much “i don’t deserve this good thing and i’ve somehow tricked people into thinking i do”#but more like “i am straight up not a person and everyone knows it”#“and i am TRYING to be a person but i can’t get it right and they all KNOW and i should not be here but i don’t know where else to go”#anyway i was a normal child

slow down for your disabled friends. thats like a bare minimum kindness that we shouldnt have to ask for. i love that youre so quirky and walking fast is a cool personality trait to you and all that but i bet you can count your physically disabled friends on less than one hand
#in a perfect world the move im gay meme would be about being fat or having a mobility aid and people just standing in your way in public#my bemoanings#debated posting this but itd be nice to have some solidarity where my mobility aid users at who have not a lot of good outside friends#also if youre a friend of mine who is worried that you might be the person in the comic im gonna be real#MULTIPLE ppl have said this exact thing to me and id rather you just slow down next time. dont come to me asking for forgiveness or smth#also straight up the person in this comic i havent seen for years because they were mean to me anyways

this is somewhat off-topic from the premise that different body types are equally appealing, so forgive me that, but the male sitcom writer model of heterosexuality makes me think of the 'odd couple'* dynamic: a feminine, sensitive, neat freak who elicits endless homophobic jabs vs a loud, rude, hypermasculine slob drowning in ladies.
like bitch, where? you can't honestly expect me to believe that even straight women would prefer a slovenly, crude nightmare over a man who, what? enjoys poetry? goes to the opera? showers? not to mention gay male characters who fall for straight dudes with unwashed asses--kings, i'm so sorry an ugly bitch like straight male writers would say that about you.
the wildest example of misjudging men's attractiveness in both directions that comes to mind is netflix's daredevil, where matt murdock is supposedly getting laid left and right and foggy nelson can't get a date, because matt is conventionally attractive and foggy is, what, fat? but the thing is, foggy nelson is a fucking catch. he's hilarious! he has weapons grade charisma.
and yes, he's pretty hot imho! perhaps i wouldn't think so without the personality, but like op said, he's not attractive despite his appearance. it's like a reverse of that incel cycle where a man's bitterness over his looks puts people off; foggy's so appealing as a person that you go yeah, sure, i can work with this. i can get into that for sure.
and of course matt is very hot, love to see that man half-naked and bleeding, but going on a date with that man and trying to have a conversation seems like a recipe for crawling out the bathroom window before the entrée arrives. was it meant to say blind people can be desirable too? that's nice and all, but fuck, matt murdock is a social nightmare. he's got a face and body that makes you want to chat him up and a personality and demeanor that makes you turn around and leave.
*i've never seen the o.g. odd couple so idk if it's actually rancid in this way, but you know the trope.
I think there's a real tragedy in the way straight men don't see themselves the same way that people who are attracted to men see them. If you ask a straight man to describe what an attractive man looks like, there's very little variety - the masculine male ideal is tall, broad-shouldered, square-jawed with a cleft chin and built of sculpted muscle. The stereotypical image of an Alpha Male, someone whom he could respect, and envy.
And sure, there are plenty of women, gay men and people of all sorts who are attracted to to this specific type, even exclusively attracted to it, there is so much more variety in this, both in the tastes and their subjects.
The stereotype of "hot wife, ugly husband"-couples was drawn from the observations of straight men, from their own perspective. Women going after men that men find unattractive makes no sense to them, and they figure that women are willing to overlook being ugly if a man's funny, smart or rich enough. If a woman insists that she's attracted to a specific man who isn't attractive by their standards, they'll assume that she's lying.
The tragic part is when a man who believes himself to be ugly grows bitter over this, developing a foul personality which people do find repulsive, and then uses their repeated experiences of being romantically rejected as proof that they're physically unattractive, insisting that surely women would overlook his heinousness if only he was tall and muscular enough, and had the right bone structure. The self-feeding vicious cycle of being a bitter incel is born.
The thing about "ugly men with a good personality can still be attractive" is that they're usually not even ugly. Some people do genuinely find fat and hairy men, thin and delicate men, short men and feminine men attractive. There's as much variety as in cheese, you can't compare aura to brie. And just like in cheese, as long as you're not toxic, somebody's into that. You just need to find the right wine to compliment it.
#sorry op for going off on a point somewhat to the left of yours using a cringe example#i just think a lot about the poor assessment of attractiveness in both genders by straight people#straight men who dont see the appeal of a woman who presents remotely butch begone#gender#men (pos)#attraction#fuck im bad at tagging#the straights#long post#sage speaks#sage replies#netflix daredevil

Hey, if you do crafts (especially things like crochet, knitting, embroidery, etc), make sure to look up how to identify when a listing is AI generated. You do NOT want to waste money on an incredible looking kit or pattern that is physically impossible to make, especially if you're on sites like etsy hoping to support an actual artist.
#as an embroiderer: big red flags are curved straight or satin stitches#stitches that you cannot identify or figure out at all#thread that fades into other colors#backgrounds that match the piece weirdly well (like a floral embroidery piece with a matching vase and flowers on the table)#and a lack of videos of the piece and photos from other angles

Also can't be said enough how capitalism plays into and reinforces this. Like: getting ppl to feel like they are a distinct demographic that NEEDS particular products FOR THEM is Marketing 101; thus the proliferation of "Men's" products(including fashion; e.g. camo-chic) over the last 15 years, and "Women's" products following WWII.
This is just my 2¢ as a nonbinary person but I genuinely think that cis people's gender is just as constructed as trans people's. Cis people love to accuse us of having making up genders or artificially modifying our appearance but....the entire makeup, fashion, diet, workout, and haircare industry exists so that cis people can maintain the illusion of two entirely distinct genders with no overlap.

i think most people accept the idea of "you don't control who you're attracted to" in terms of being gay but imo it can go further. like if you're not attracted to men, but you happen to find a transmasc person attractive, i dont think thats inherently transphobic if you acknoweldge that your attraction is incongruent with their identity. you dont need to run yourself in circles creating qualifiers for your sexuality when we live in a world of infinite gender identites. it's not like you have an inbuilt radar that tells you whether that hot stranger at the bar is a woman or not. man who kissed a twink that turned out to be a butch lesbian that thought he was a butch lesbian. etc.

bastille has done more for the queer community by just making all of their love songs about "you" instead of specifying a gender than taylor swift has in all of her discography. thanks for coming to my ted talk.
#shrooms is talking#anti taylor swift#i can't believe y'all got mad at this woman for being straight#of course she's fucking straight#gods bless#stop trying to turn her into a queer icon#she's never gonna be a queer icon
