Zuko's eyes watered against his will when the ghost of a woman he did not know smiled at him like he was her child.
Zuko decided right there and then that maybe, just maybe, this too was something he came to find.
Ghost-Mother takes a look into Zuko's soul in For the Spirits Chapter IX: A Rider Alone.
More than a stranded soul, Kya holds all the love of the Old Tribe and the means to calm a coming tempest. Zuko won't ever forget her.
(He won't be allowed to.)

I think it's easy to scoff at their attempts to smear him in documentaries with evidence they're unwilling to turn over.
But we need to remember the cops and media successfully spread that Luigi had a manifesto and journal detailing plans of the crime and many who support Luigi believe it's from him.
With the latest motions in Luigi's case, I think all of us who doubted the manifesto and journal should get much much louder about it. Because they had plenty of time to hand it over to his defense. The fact that they have not but spread it to the media means they definitely planned on predisposing the public to believe he wrote it so they don't have to present that evidence in court.

the modern villainisation of demeter will never cease to enrage me bc it wasn’t ENOUGH to just take a story of a girl being torn from her home from everyone who loved her and dragged away to be forced into marriage and twist and corrupt it until it was a romance story about female empowerment that wasn’t ENOUGH they HAD to take the original hero of the story the mother who went to every length to find her daughter again to bring her home and demonise her character until she was this horrific overbearing unloving mother. overprotective controlling without love. they turn the story of her grief at her YOUNG daughter being torn from her without her knowledge into the story of a misunderstood bad boy and a horrible cruel mother who won’t give him a chance and i really find it sickening. it’s ironic, that the ever misogynist age of hellenistic greece, has a better grasp of how disgusting and horrifying this situation was that a modern, self proclaimed ‘feminist’ era.

This means one of two options:
1) Shen Yuan knew the washerwoman's name and just insisted on calling her The Washerwoman (can't really see that happening when he remembers the names of so many wives and the washerwoman is more important to Binghe than all of them + he calls Su Xiyan by her name instead of calling her Binghe’s birth mother or something)
2) he doesn't know her name, which implies Bingge just never allowed himself to think about his adoptive mother too deeply for literal centuries.

He noticed the spears resting not too far away from the women. Zuko squinted his eyes and recoiled at the sight of blood painting the blades, in clear contrast to the whimsical whites and blues of the South. These women were hunters.
The Southern Water Tribe brings shades of white to Zuko's soul in For The Spirits Chapter IX: A Rider Alone.
Sharpened mothers and fatherless children resting on the back of tattered tents. A Ghost-Mother, a shapeless howl, and the blue eyes from his dream—everything comes together in the land of the Midnight Sun.

the golden ring on Messmer’s crest is from the symbol on the eye Marika blessed him with + it’s on the ring he wears as well (remember what I said about in Palmistry, wearing ring on the middle finger implies responsibility, devotion and justice, so it’s something the head of the family would wear).
even though he took out the eye, he still wore the ring in his Base Serpent form. and if you look closely, every plate on his armor is engraved with that golden ring symbol as well.

Hopping series for a minute, that's also why Harrow's refusal to condemn John at the end of Nona the Ninth hits. Harrow knows that she has never had power that she didn't abuse. She has hurt people, badly. Partially because of her self-hatred born of guilt.
She can't and won't absolve John, but she doesn't have to condemn him either. So she doesn't. She refuses to condemn him because she sees herself in him. She refuses to condemn him as part of her journey to learning how to stop condemning herself.

Thinking about where the line between lies and storytelling sits with Garak. How trauma (especially childhood trauma) forces you to morph your life into stories to tell the truth when the facts are too all encompassing and terrible for you to face.
Thinking about the queerness inherent to Garak and Bashir's book club. The way they interrogate the subtext of their books the way only queer people can, when the realities of our lives are rendered unspeakable by homophobia.
The way they dance around each other, creating a hidden story within the story - the truth of their relationship too large and unforgivable. Queer repression as text becoming repression subtext. An ouroboros of enforced shame. It remains hidden but in doing so, reveals some new truth. Neither knows who they are without the obfuscation they have worn for so long that it has become their face.
