Foreclosure involves the radical rejection of a particular element from the symbolic order (that is, from language), and not just any element: it involves the element that in some sense grounds or anchors the symbolic order as a whole. When this element is foreclosed, the entire symbolic order is affected; as has been noted in a great deal of the literature on schizophrenia , for example, language operates very differently in psychosis from the way it does in neurosis . According to Lacan, the element that is foreclosed in psychosis intimately concerns the father. He refers to it as the " Name- of-the-Father " (as we shall see, the French, Nom-du-Pere, is far more instructive).
The absence of the paternal function is the single most important criterion to consider in diagnosing an individual as psychotic, yet it is by no means immediately visible in the majority of cases.
The paternal function is not the function played by the individual's father, regardless of his particular style and personality, the role he plays in the family circle, and so on. A flesh-andblood father does not immediately and automatically fulfill the paternal function, nor does the absence of a real, live father in any way automatically ensure the nonexistence of the paternal function. This function may be fulfilled despite the early death or disappearance of the father due to war or divorce; it may be fulfilled by another man who becomes a "father figure"; and it may be fulfilled in other ways as well.
Let it suffice to say that the father who embodies the paternal function in a nuclear family generally comes between mother and child, stopping the child from being drawn altogether to or into the mother and stopping the mother from engulfing her child. Lacan does not claim that all mothers have a tendency to smother or devour their children (though some do); rather, he says that children "perceive" their mOther's desire as dangerous or threatening. This "perception" reflects in some cases the child's wish for the mother to take her child as her be-all and end-all (which would ultimately annihilate the child as a being separate from its mother), and in other cases a reaction to a genuine tendency on the mother's part to obtain a kind of satisfaction with her child that she has not been able to obtain elsewhere.
In either case, the result is the same: the father keeps the child at a certain distance from its mother, thwarting the child's attempt to become one or remain forever one with the mother, or forbidding the mother from achieving certain satisfactions with her child , or both. Stated differently, the father protects the child from le desir de la mere ( which means both the child's desire for the mother and the mother's desire )-that is, from a potential danger. The father protects the child from the mother as desire (as desiring or as desired), setting himself up as the one who prohibits, forbids, thwarts, and protects-in a word, as the one who lays down the law at home, telling both mother and child what is allowed and what is not.

I love the idea of all the robins kinda being clones of each other with just a few differences and a concussed Bruce not being able to tell who he’s squinting at so he just says generic statements and avoids saying any names
Bruce (sitting at the breakfast table): so… how’s the weather… dick?
Jason (grinning): you do know I’m gonna hold this against you for like, the next 2 months right
Bruce: (groans into his hands)
Bruce (walking into the living room): hey have you read through the files I gave you yesterday?
Dick: (confused cause he took a day off to surprise Bruce) ?
Bruce: so?
Dick: er… no?
Bruce: Dick?? What are you doing here?
Bruce (walks into the kitchen with a fresh concussion): Jason? I thought you were on a mission with the outlaws?
Tim: (frozen through mid fridge raid, having assumed they were past Bruce calling him Jason since yk. He’s a shit brickhouse now and Tim is, well, obviously not): uh?
Bruce: *turns around and leaves*
Bruce: Oh hey Cass, when did you arrive from Babs’?
Damian: (slowly turns around in the black hoodie he’s wearing) we’re not even the same gender
Bruce: (under his breath) yeah but the same height

Something something violence has always been the primary love language for Waynes, something something.
It breaks me that Bruce loves Jason so deeply, and Jason is so completely unaware of it. He comes to the conclusion that love is religion. You have to see to believe.
I’m just thinking about Jason watching evidence of how wrecked Bruce is after his death. He stalks Batman, always, tracks down every movement and breath. He waits for the perfect moment to shoot.
Your father only dies once, after all.
That moment, mysteriously, doesn’t come.
Jason’s never been scared of Bruce. Fear, to him, is darkness and cold and a bleach white face laughing at him. Fear of Bruce not being there at all. That’s fear.
I need a scene where Jason, — Red Hood, — watches Batman pin down a mugger.
He doesn’t know what that man says. Something about getting on him for not being there when Wayne’s boy got killed.
He’s never been scared of Bruce.
But when he punches that man, over and over and over, when his throat makes those horrible sounds of gasping effort, animal and feral, he’s afraid. Afraid Bruce won’t stop.
He’s about to jump in when another, smaller pair of feet runs up to the scene and Jesus Christ that’s a kid — A kid wearing Jason’s old uniform. Wrapping his arms around Batman’s and clinging.
The man on the ground is motionless. If he didn’t blink, Jason wouldn’t know there was a face anymore.
But that’s not the worst part.
The worst part is Bruce crying. Gasping, punched out noises, his hands drenched with red, squeezing the kid so close to him.
“My baby. Oh my baby.”

Daniel Wayne, the younger toddler brother of Bruce Wayne and the son of Martha and Thomas Wayne had been kidnapped the night their parents were murdered.
Daniel had been snagged the moment their killer heard people headed to the alley and Bruce in his state of shock didn't realize it until it was far to late and could only scream in horror (from everything) as his baby brother is crying his name. (If you wanna make it even more heart wrenching, make it Danny's first time being able to say Bruce's name right and/or Bruce had said some mean things to Danny earlier after he accidentally broke something of Bruce's, something like 'I wish youd go away' or 'I never wanted a brother, you're such a bother!')
Bruce is being held by Alfred as some police officers are chasing down the Wayne's parents killer while some stay behind to see if they could do something.
Minutes turn to hours and as they wait, praying the police at least found Danny, Bruce is ridden with guilt. From his parents death to allowing his brother to be kidnapped.
Eventually the police return to give Alfred and Bruce the news. And it's not good.
The killer escaped and Danny was nowhere to be found.
And it would take many years before he would be found.

Bruce gets a call from Damian during school hours one day. When he answers he is greeted with Damian demanding him to get to the school and explain himself.
Confused Bruce asks what does he mean and Damian responds with
"The two new students in class today are the spitting images of you and I father! Either they are poorly created clones or you have more hidden blood children!"
-x-x-
Meanwhile the very students being discussed are calling up someone too
"Ellie? Dan? What's wrong? You better not have made too much chaos already, I just paid for the uniforms for that place."
"DAD! I THINK ANOTHER ONE OF THE FRUITLOOPS FAILED CLONES SOMEHOW SURVIVED!"
"What?"

balinor giving merlin the ambrosius sigil and merlin carrying it around with him for years. merlin and arthur sitting around a campfire, both believing fullheartedly that they’ll be dead by morning bc like hell are they going to allow the other to sacrifice themself to close the veil. arthur giving merlin the du bois sigil as a parting gift and ensuring that merlin will be taken care of after his death. merlin biting the bullet and handing over the ambrosius family sigil in exchange. luckily, arthur doesn’t recognize the ambrosius sigil for what it is - a dragonlord lineage. BUT now he thinks merlin has noble blood and is wondering when tf he figured that out, if he ever met his father, and why he never told arthur.

Editor’s note: The Name of the Father ( le nom du père ) or Paternal Metaphor can be heard as both the no/ non of the father and his name/ nom . This pun contains the two dimensions of what Lacan understands to be symbolic castration: the negative side that enforces the prohibition of incest (“No,” says the father, “you cannot be your mother’s phallus, the exclusive object of her desire”) and the positive side, the child’s inscription in the generational order (as the son or daughter of a father and a mother), which locates the child in the social world, the realm of language. Lacan’s expression “paternal metaphor” not only refers to the double meaning of the non/nom but also points toward language per se as a metaphor for what has been irreversibly lost when the child becomes a speaking subject. In speaking, the subject does not know that he or she is symbolizing, through language, the object of his or her primordial yearning. For Lacan, then, castration is not merely the fear of losing or missing the penis. It is a symbolic operation that cuts the imaginary bond between mother and child and grants the boy or the girl the ability to symbolize this loss through words. Therefore the fear of losing the penis or the frustration at not having it is grounded not in our “anatomical destiny” but in the dynamics at work within the intersubjective realm in which mother, father, and child are inscribed.
