A Question/Poll: Please Help Pick My Next TTRPG Read, 2/22/24 Edition
I'm more'n halfway through the Army of Darkness RPG corebook, so it's time to pick next.
Gonna try streamlining a bit. Instead of my usual series of pulp/not pulp, licensed/not licensed, I'm going to pick a semi-random collection of categories, some of which will produce additional polls, some of which won't.
So, here goes!
(I have purchased so many things I really cannot keep track; I keep thinking of more things I wanted to add)
Gonna try to tag game creators below, but I suspect I'll end up with too many tags, and probably won't include 'em all in the reblogs.

Do you or your followers have any recommendations for settings/adventures for comedic fantasy adventures (like Discworld or particularly comic illustrations to 0e)?
Obviously tone depends on GM and players, but I would like to have something that already has prompts for humorous adventures.
System doesn't matter since we are using the one nobody knows.
Btw, wouldn't Rolemaster have something like this? You constantly say how it's actually a comedy
Rolemaster would work for comedic fantasy of a violent slapstick type, yes! Like, Rolemaster as a system is marked by extremely swingy results that often result in hilariously graphic or ridiculously buffoonish results.
Fivewild is an extremely funny fantasy RPG that's kind of like what if D&D 5e was good. It's an absolute riot. And also free!
I feel Dungeon Crawl Classics can also do comic fantasy, but of the "laughing at a bunch of hapless dungeon crawlers" variety. The game emphasizes randomness and unpredictability, and is actually not too much unlike Rolemaster in its love for cool tables!
Oh, Land of Eem definitely has the chops for comedic fantasy!
Okay, one more: I feel Troika deserves a mention. Troika is very much weird fantasy and a lot of its comedy comes via implication. Very little is set in stone about its setting, but what little is implied is enough to set one's imagination ablaze.

For the guy who a§ked how to §educe the Other§: Do Not The Calamari. It’§ not worth it bro. It won’t end well and, from what my one of my current §e§§ion mates §ay§, they aren’t even that good.
Anyway, just got through a hectic and unnece§§arily convoluted entry and need to vent/get advice from a pompou§ a§§ that i§n’t in my §e§§ion(jk, love your §hit). Haven’t met up with anyone fully yet, but it already look§ like a clu§ter fuck. Eight player§, rolled up three other veteran§ and four §boob§, but god doe§ the game hate the sboob§.
One of them got an angel land word, another got an Other land word… ba§ed off rough calculation§… the land§ are gonna be trying to §ma§h into each other. Through §kaia. In 2 week§, unle§§ we can figure out how to §tabilize the orbit§. The other two §boob§ are from a two player §e§§ion and are freaking out about having more people and them being alien§. §o cool, mixed §pecie§ §e§§ion right off the bat for tho§e two. All ready the culture cla§h is cau§ing… problem§. Not only that but it §eem§ like they both got bountie§ from their dream moon§ on their head§ already. §omehow.
The veteran §ide of thi§ i§… yeah also hate§ u§, but in the way we expect. Our Time player i§ down a dream §elf, not §ure when or how they know that yet. One guy§ got… not sure if it’§ a land fuck up, but what’§ e§§entially a permanent atomik ebonpyre in the cloud layer around hi§ land. With hi§ hive on a mountain top. Third vet has a dead land, or a land that’§ pretending to be dead. Like fir§t village was empty and very few imp§ during hi§ entry. I can §afely §ay I’m a profe§§ional §pace player at thi§ point but my land i§ not ho§pitable for frog§ yet. And my §prite§… well. An i§§ue. One of the §boob§ prototyped a dangerou§ p§ychic creature and now all the underling§ have weapon§ grade telekine§i§ at minimum.
Cla§§ line up i§ (ba§§ed off our time player§ not §o cryptic hint§): Veteran§; Mage of §pace(my§elf, with native title thi§ round), Knight of Doom(Angry cloud layer), §eer of Time, Heir of Life(“Dead” Land guy). §boob§; §ylph of Heart(Other Land), Witch of Rage(Angel Land), Maid of Blood, Prince of Void.
Advice? And or how fucked we are rating?
~TA
The implication that one of your sessionmates managed to sex the squid is horrifying, please do not elaborate on this. And to answer your question, this session is pretty awful, but not unsalvageable.
As far as the Angel and Other Lands colliding, I imagine you and the Witch have the best chances of physically making the planets stop moving, but I don't think I'd be too concerned if they do impact. Obviously try to be as far away from the point of impact as possible, and don't just let it happen, but as long as they aren't moving especially fast (as in "a secondhand observer would say it's moving fast", I know technically a planet moving at all is notably fast), the game tends to cope with it well. As in, there will be some environmental destruction, the Land's geography will shift itself around, the Consorts will be in danger (but have some level of self-preservation, help them out anyway to boost your Land Reputation), and maybe some non-essential features break, but then they sort of comfortably "fuse" in a stable form. Your house is not usually the site of impact, but the sheer schmovement might make it wobble so hard it collapses, so watch out. And the best part is, because Angelic and Otherwise Corruption cancel each other out, it might neutralize the more dangerous tendencies of both Lands! SO that part should be fine. Unless they are moving fast enough that both Lands might explode, in which case you're fucked and I can't help you. Outside of "abuse Space powers to make them stop", and maybe try abusing Time powers to complete either one of their Land Quests. I'm just guessing that there has to be a point in the Land Quest where the Angels/Others go dormant, and if that happens to at least one side, they should stop being attracted to each other. The only alternative is trying to kill the Angels or Others, and good luck with that one, buddy, you're unironically better off just dealing with those two Lands exploding (and trying to see if it's still possible to make progress with them, the game won't be unwinnable in these conditions, I think).
For the Knight of Doom, the Atomyk Ebonpyre Cloud Layer is an early-game concern. First, confirm if this affects their hive. While a "regional" Ebonpyre isn't too outlandish, they never manifest near dungeon entrances or special structures (like one's house or hive). When you enter the Medium, the game keeps spawning Underlings until you enter the first Gate, at which point all Underlings in and around your house despawn and it assumes a normal spawn rate. If your Knight of Doom ran away without entering the first Gate, this is their fault, tell them to get in there. If the Knight of Doom did enter the first Gate and aggressive monsters keep spawning, then yeah, it's an Ebonpyre. You have three options.
Clear out all Underlings. While the entire cloud layer being a Land-wise Ebonpyre is probably an intended challenge and feature of the Knight of Doom's Land, it should recognize the zone around their hive. Once you've cleared out an Atomyk Ebonpyre zone, the spawn rates and behavior returns to normal, as it essentially goes "deactive". This option should only be undertaken once they've got some combat abilities, and escape plan, and maybe a bit of help.
Fortify the hive. Build over windows. Landmines, barbed wires, and turrets outside. Smooth out the house to remove any surfaces an enemy could spawn on (lots of stairs and ladders with few platforms). To be honest I don't even think you should have any doors if it's too much of a problem. Keep in mind that this is a stop-gap measure until you can execute Option #1, and should be used in conjunction with Option #3.
Build up. If the Atomyk Ebonpyre is localized to the cloud layer, enter the stratosphere. Once you're above the danger zone, you can build like you're not expecting assassins to kill you in your sleep. It will be expensive though.
Running through the rest of your issues quickly, the guys who have never seen a Troll before will adapt quickly (and if not, hit 'em with the Etiquette FAQ), the Seer of Time's dreamself might not be dead, could be merely mistaken for dead and entombed by the Carapacians (inconvenient but not awful, but you have access to the Sacrificial Slab now), the Heir of Life's planet is probably just "acting" dead because their Land Quest is to bring it back to life (and if they didn't prototype anything before entering, it is actually dead and they just fucked the entire Session, but considering they're a vet this is unlikely), and the telekinetics you might just have to deal with. They'll probably be clumsy about it, and throw the biggest items, which you might want to counter-act by simply captchaloguing the items mid-air. If they begin displaying telepathic or mind-control abilities, then the danger level has increased significantly and you'll want everyone to start wearing tinfoil hats. Don't laugh.
A lot of this looks worse than it is, probably, and you've got a good Title line-up, in addition to some experienced hands. The colliding Lands is the worst part, but every other major problem is sticky at best, instead of catastrophic. Once you solve that Priority 1 Problem, everything else should click into place.

Borrower’s Right To Redeem Mortgage Extinguishes Once Bank Publishes Auction Notice: Supreme Court’s Interpretation of the SARFAESI Act

Introduction The Supreme Court of India has clarified a crucial aspect concerning the Securitisation and Reconstruction of Financial Assets and Enforcement of Security Interest Act, 2002 (SARFAESI Act). The Court ruled that a borrower’s right to redeem a mortgage ceases to exist once the bank publishes an auction notice for the sale of the secured asset. Legal Background The Act serves as a comprehensive legislative framework, enabling banks to recover non-performing assets without the need for court intervention. It outlines the procedures for securitization, reconstruction of financial assets, and enforcement of security interests. Relevant Provisions for Borrower’s right to redeem a mortgage - Section 13(2): This section allows the secured creditor to issue a demand notice to the borrower, requiring the discharge of liabilities within 60 days. - Section 13(8): This section states that the borrower has the right to redeem the secured asset by tendering all dues before the date of publication of the notice for public auction or inviting quotations or tenders from the public or private treaty for transfer by way of lease, assignment, or sale of the secured assets. Facts of the Case for Borrower’s Right To Redeem Mortgage The borrowers had availed a credit facility from the bank and secured it with a simple mortgage over a parcel of land. Upon default, the bank initiated the auction process for the secured asset. The borrowers filed a redemption application before the Debt Recovery Tribunal (DRT) and also sought relief from the High Court. Supreme Court’s Ruling Extinguishment of Right of Redemption The Court held that failure to tender all dues before the publication of the auction notice, as stipulated by Section 13(8) of the SARFAESI Act, results in the “extinguishment of the right of redemption of mortgage.” Justice Pardiwala noted: “The right of redemption is clearly restricted till the date of publication of the sale notice under the SARFAESI Act, whereas the said right continues under Section 60 of the Transfer of Property Act, 1882, till the execution of conveyance of the mortgaged property.” Legal Sanctity of Auction Process In Borrower’s right to redeem a mortgage The Court emphasized the necessity of upholding the sanctity of the auction process under the SARFAESI Act. Any contrary interpretation would undermine public confidence and the very objective of auctions. Conclusion about Borrower’s Right To Redeem Mortgage The judgment serves as a legal precedent, clarifying that the borrower’s right to red eem a mortgage under the SARFAESI Act is extinguished upon the publication of an auction notice by the bank. It also underscores the importance of maintaining the sanctity of the auction process, aligning with the larger public interest. Case Citation (Borrower’s Right To Redeem Mortgage) Case Title: Celir LLP v. Bafna Motors (Mumbai) Pvt. Ltd. And Ors C.A. No. 5542-5543/2023 Citation: 2023INSC838 This article provides a comprehensive and precise understanding of the Supreme Court’s judgment, incorporating the relevant provisions of the SARFAESI Act and quoting significant paragraphs for reference. Land of Eem is a game about adventurers exploring and discovering the remnants of a forgotten, better age. Players portray lore-seeking travelers, fortune-seeking pioneers and adventure-seeking heroes in a time devoid of them.

But for all its post-apocalyptic doom and gloom, Land of Eem is a lighthearted game with a sense of humor. Set in the world of our two fantasy series Rickety Stitch and the Gelatinous Goo and Dungeoneer Adventures, the game combines Lord of the Rings high fantasy epicness with a heavy dose of Muppets-like whimsy and a dash of Mad Max dystopia.
Together with Exalted Funeral, we're launching the Core Rulebook (approx. 200 pages), a Bestiary (approx. 180 pages), and the first Land of Eem Sandbox Campaign Setting: The Mucklands (approx. 400 pages), a realm of 6 unique regions filled to the brim with locations, NPCs, and quests. At the highest reward tiers, all three 8.5" x 11" hardcover books are packaged in a box set, complete with a 22" x 22" foldout Mucklands map gameboard.

THE SETTING
Eem is a land of color and wonder, a world with many storied regions and realms teeming with diverse cultures and a plethora of characters and creatures. Eem is also a land in decay, for the great civilizations of the past crumbled long ago at the hands of the mysterious GLOOM KING. Ever since, the world has declined into an untamed, unchecked land filled with all manner of monsters and fiends, fearsome warlords and, most recently, greedy tycoons... ushering in an unruly industrial age called the DUNGEON ERA. A time chaotically run by rival goblin corporations locked in a never-ending quest to outdo one another in business and expansion. All the while, average folk toil away in mines, factories, and dungeons, eking out a meager existence.
The southern realm of Eem and seat of goblin power, known as the MUCKLANDS, is broken into six regions: The Drippy Downs: One of the few bastions of the old magical world, the Drippy Downs is a land of rolling green hills, home to trolls, faeries, dweorgs and other uncommon species--many doing their best to preserve the heritage of Eem's magical past.
Fleabag County: The bustling region of Fleabag County is home to the Mucklands' biggest cities, including the big crabapple itself--Bogtown. Corrupt politicians and underworld criminals thrive like weeds as average folk toil away in factories and farms.
Quagmash: A wilderness of largely unexplored swamps and bogs where pioneers, adventurers and big game hunters flock to either make names for themselves or succumb to the perilous backwater full of gators, muckmen, and orches.
River Country: A beautiful green country full of rushing waterways, River Country is not only home to peaceful quortles and peasant folk but to wily rascal robbers and obscenely wealthy river barons who endlessly duke it out for supremacy on extravagant riverboats.
Scalawag Strand: The infamous coastline of the Mucklands teems with pirates and rascals out to rob seafarers blind--or worse. And if the pirates aren't enough to deter you from the open seas--beware! For beyond the peaks of Terror Island, there be monsters!
The Used T'Be Forest: Home to the goblin tycoons and corporations that fuel the Dungeon Era, the Used T'Be Forest is a barren landscape of cracked earth and felled trees. A true testament to what happens when big business and small moral fiber make a mess of the natural world.
The Bestiary
Land of Eem is chock full of original and classic fantasy foes, each with an unusual spin on traditional tropes. While the core rulebook includes a select handful of adversaries, the Bestiary contains those and many more—all illustrated in full color.
Approx. 180 pages
160+ Creatures, Critters, and Creepers
Super simple stat blocks
Unique, succinct abilities to make GMing painless
Advice on how to roleplay them during social encounters and run them during combat

🗣 Akaiss + Lammek
"Well Well... i-s>nt thi-s> a nice treat. Little LamLam! It's been -s>()me time, ha-s>nt it?"
There it was.. that familiar voice. It made the hairs on the back of Lammeks neck stand on end... the fellow sea dweller was not a person who casually graced others with his presence. He valued his time as a currency.. and one that he had no intention on sharing so easily.
Even for his work life, the idol never worked with people he didn't deem worthy of his time or energy... the more he thought of it.. his brother was everything he never strived to replicate.
".... Akai-ss>."
His response was curt. Sharp. Perhaps to show how he was really feeling about his surprise drop in. The only thing separating them was a coffee table and a matching couch that the younger 'brother' sat on.. glancing up at his elder.. he couldn't help but furrow his brows more..
That fucking smile of his. He wanted to punch it right off his face.. and it was almost comical how the sea dweller laughed as his thoughts started.. his attention was casted down at the table.. not much sat on it..
Besides the chess game he had left unfinished from their previous encounters.. hilariously- Lammek hated chess. It was the only thing that could ever potentially bridge the gap between him and the older Ritouv. Yet it was only a cruel reminder the sheer obstacle this man was.
"()h .. y()ure being -s>() unkind.. all I wanted t() d() wa-s> dr()p in.. chat f()r a minute ()r tw()."
He casually started to make his way to thr front of the couch.. sliding his fingers across the back cushions, nails biting into the leather.. he moved carefully. Almost too precisely.. the bangles and jewelry clicking together..
"And give y()u a little update~ We left ()ur game ()ff ten-s>e la-s>t time... -s>() much drama ()ver -s>uch a -s>h()rt peri()d ()f time~"
He laughed, sitting down now on the empty couch.. reaching forward to pick up a piece off the board, twisting it between his fingers.. Lammek watched closely. Returning no words... and soon.. Akaiss moved the piece. Taking down a pawn on his side of the board with his own pawn.. smirking..
"Y()ur friend-s> are very.. intere-s>ting~"
He laughed, covering his mouth with the back of his hand..
"I d() have t() a-s>k.. why y()u hang ar()und.. -s>uch.. -s>trange thing-s>.. Y()u -s>eem.. s() bu-s>y a-s> ()f recent."
He moved his pieces for the younger heir... his eyebrow twitched in annoyance.. Making moves.. for himself?
The pawn he had lost sat to the side.. staring him down..
"Di-s>tracti()n-s> can get th()-s>e pe()ple hurt.. ykn()w? Have y()u checked up ()n any ()f them?"
Lammeks lip twitched,
"-S>ince when do you care about the people i con-s>ider friendly?"
That smile turned rancid.. it was like a monster staring him down. Ready to sink his teeth into him and tear him down... and Lammek felt some static and electricity crackle around him for a moment..
".. ()h.. y()u haven't heard? Hehehehe.."
The pieces began to move more.. more.. without Lammek touching the board. Eventually a bishop on his own side was taken off.. and Lammek couldn't follow the thought process of his movements..
Why was he doing this?
Yet Akaiss continued to smile.
"Maybe y()u -s>h()uld a-s>k y()ur friend-s> what they've been up t()... hasn't any ()f them been a l()t quieter? Hm?"
And the silence sat heavy around them... and he stood to his feet. Smiling.. reaching across to pat the top his head..
"Well.. h()w ab()ut y()u think ab()ut that hm? I'm s()rry I can't alway-s> -s>tay and chat.. but y()u kn()w what they say.. Early bird get-s> the w()rm~"
And with that.. Lammek silently watched Akaiss leave.. laughter echoing back at him.. as he felt himself begin to break out in a cold sweat.. ans his eyes landed on the pawn that had taken his own.. and the lonely white piece knocked over on its side..
...
When was the last time he had checked up on his friends?
...
He had people to speak with.. urgently.

Frisii
This is a rewritten post on the Frisii tribe, my previous post is over a year old so I wanted to update it by adding more information.
The Frisii were a Germanic tribe who lived above the Rhine in areas that are now known as modern day Noord-Holland, Friesland, Groningen, the Wadden islands in the Netherlands and East-Frisia in Germany. They should not be confused with the Frisians, a tribe which settled in the same area at a later time period, The Frisians and Frisii are however not completely foreign to each other, some Frisii stayed behind and were absorbed by the Frisians, the oldest still existing Germanic culture. The Frisii were neighboured by the Cananefates to the south and Chauci to the east, the west and north were part of the north sea.
The meaning of their name is derived from the Proto-Germanic word 'frisaz' which means 'curly'. There is a common misunderstanding that the word Frisii, and the later Frisian, comes from the word freeze/vriezen or freedom but this is not correct although understandably a good possible meaning.
The origins of the Frisii is still a bit unclear but there are viable theories. Unlike other tribes, like the Chatti, Lombards, Batavi, Cananefates etc.. who all migrated southwards and settled in their territories around 100BC, the Frisii are a lot older. In fact we do not know how old exactly they are but there are several theories:
The most likely theory is that the early Frisii, also called Proto-Frisians, migrated southwards from northern Germany and Denmark around 1000BC. Somewhere around 700BC they migrated from modern day Drenthe towards modern day Friesland, Groningen and Noord-Holland. There is however a more controversial theory that suggests the birth of the Frisii started with their patron-mother the Goddess Freya.
According to this theory a line of matriarchal rulers, known as folk mothers, were descendants of Freya herself and responsible for the creation of the Frisii, this would mean that the origin of the tribe is not around 700BC but around 2200BC. Here is a line of Frisii folk mothers starting with the Goddess Freya: Freya - somewhere around 2000BC Fasta, Medea, Thiania, Hellenia, Minna, Rosamond, Hellicht, Frana, Adela and Gosa. Of course if there was a continuous matriarchal line for about 1500 years long, this would include many more names but those are lost in time. This theory is based on the information found in the Oera Linda book, a highly disputed manuscript worthy of its own post so I will write about it in the near future. An altar stone has been found near modern day Xanten however with the following description: "MATRIBUS FRISAVIS PATERNIS" which could refer to these ancient Frisii matriarchs making the Oera Linda book theory possible.
By 100BC the Frisii were quite a large and powerful tribe who had established themselves fully in their current territory. Their first encounter with the Roman empire was around 12BC when Drusus Germanicus, one of Rome's most succesful generals, invaded Germania with the intention to turn the land into a province of Rome.
Drusus Germanicus, not to be confused with the other Roman general called Germanicus, was incredibly succesful with his invasion. He subjugated every Germanic tribe in his path including the Frisii who were forced to be allies of Rome. The Romans also built a fort, their most northern one, at modern day Velsen to keep an eye on the Frisii. It is likely that all of Germania would have become a Roman province if Germanicus didn't die after a fall from his horse in 9BC.
The Frisii delivered auxiliary troops to Rome and they had to pay taxes which led to high tensions between the tribe and Rome. The taxes were incredibly unfair as the Romans demanded large skins of cows which did not even exist in Frisii territory, they only had a small breed of cows. This rising tension eventually led to the Frisii revolting against Rome in 28AD. The Frisii hung Roman tax collectors which infuriated Rome.
Olennius, a Roman centurion in charge of Frisii administration, escaped the lynching party and hid himself at Castellum Flevum, the most northern fort the Romans ever built. The Frisii however marched onwards to this fort but were unable to capture it, archeological research shows traces of heavy fighting at this fort. The Frisii retreated back towards their sacred grove dedicated to their Goddess of war, Baduhenna, luring the Romans with them.
The Romans chased the Frisii right into the sacred grove. This was however a dreadful decision since the Frisii knew their swampy estuary terrain very well and were extra motivated by being in the presence of their battle Goddess. Almost all of the Romans were slaughtered, 900 of them, some according to legends, were captured and sacrificed to Baduhenna right in her grove. Another 400 Roman soldiers killed each other out fear of treachery, the event has been quoted by Tacitus:
"Soon afterwards it was ascertained from deserters that nine hundred Romans had been cut to pieces in a wood called Baduhenna, after prolonging the fight to the next day, and that another body of four hundred, which had taken possession of the house of one Cruptorix, once a soldier in our pay, fearing betrayal, had perished by mutual slaughter." - Tacitus
The Frisii name thus became famous in Germania and Roman emperor Tiberius tried to keep the Roman defeat a secret, not wishing to entrust anyone with the war because of the shame. The Roman fort in modern day Noord-Holland was abandoned after the revolt and the Frisii became free people once again and remained so until the medieval ages.
The earliest known written record that we have about the Frisii comes from a Roman poet Albinovanus Pedo. In one of his poems, he describes a disaster that occured during Germanicus' campaigns to avenge the Teutoburgerwald battle. This disaster took place around the Eems river in Frisii territory around 16AD and involves a storm destroying parts of his fleet:
"For a long time they had left the day and the sunlight behind them, for a long time they looked exiles from the well known part of the world, who had dared to go through forbidden darkness to the boundaries of nature and the furthest coast of the earth.
From here they saw him, the sea, carrying huge monsters under slow waves with rising wild whales and the dogs of the sea on all sides grabbing ships. The fleet was already in the mud, left behind by a rapid storm. They believed that their unfortunate fate was to be torn apart by these wild sea monsters.
The world was robbed, nothing could be distinguished, his breath was taken from him, and thus he spoke from his heart: Where do we end up? The day itself is fleeing and nature closes the rest of the world with eternal darkness. Do we sometimes look for people untouched by wars? The gods call us back, forbid that mortal eyes see the end of everything. Why do we violate a strange and consecrated sea with oars? Why do we disturb the silent dwellings of the gods?" - Albinovadus Pedo
The next written mention is quite an interesting one. It involves a dispute about land on the Roman border area. Two Frisii leaders, Verritus and Malorix decided to travel to Rome in 58AD and defend their case about this piece of land. During their stay in Rome, they amused the Romans greatly by refusing to sit down amongst the common people in a theater exclaiming that: "No people can match the Germanics in loyalty and bravery!" They then proceeded sitting down next to the Roman senators present in the theater. The Roman emperor, Nero, found the whole event quite amusing himself and granted Verritus and Malorix roman citizenship. This account, described by Tacitus, is also the first account of foreign tourists visiting Rome who were mentioned by name.
In 69AD, during a particulary tough year for the Romans, the Batavi revolted against the Roman empire. The Frisii joined this revolt which was initially quite succesful. Unfortunately the revolt was put down by the Romans the following year, resulting in severe trust issues between the Romans and the Batavi and Cananefates.
By 98AD Tacitus published his work 'Germania' and also provices us with a small description on the Frisii. He separated the tribe in two parts, the Frisii Maiores and the Frisii Minores. The Minores lived in what is now Noord-Holland and the Maiores lived in what is now Frisia and Groningen. Here is a description on the Frisii landscape:
"The terrain is fierce, the climate is rough, life and landscape are bleak. You only come here if it's your homeland." - Tacitus
No significant recorded events exist after 98AD, the history on the Frisii between 100AD-300AD is pretty much unknown. We do know that parts of the Frisii joined the Cananefaat pirate/proto-viking Gannascus in his raids on several settlements, mainly in Gaul. These attacks infuriated Rome and led to improved defenses being built by them. Gannascus is eventually assassinated by the Romans under the pretence of a negotiation which caused great outrage amongst the Chauci, Frisii and Cananefates. The Roman emperor of that time, Claudius, feared a violent conflict with these tribes and withdrew Roman forces from the Rhine in order to ease tensions.
Around 300AD the Saxon confederation came into existence and bordered the Frisii directly to the east. The Western Roman empire started to decline rapidly during this time period as well leaving the borders vulnerable for invasions. With the Huns invading Europe, economic hardship, climate change, failed harvests and empty Roman borders, came the great migration. Many Frisii migrated either southwards to become absorbed by the Franks or to the west by invading Britannia together with the Angles, Saxons and Jutes. Only very few Frisii remained in their original homeland, we have archeological evidence that some did indeed stay.
Frisii lands were now almost completely deserted until the arrival of Saxons and Jutes who settled the area together with the few remaining Frisii. These new settlers started to call themselves Frisians, after the ancient Frisii. The Frisians still exist until this day and they have a rich history which deserves a post of its own, which will be coming very soon.
The last thing I want to mention is the auxiliary troops that the Frisii supplied Rome with. The Notitia Dignitatum, a Roman document that describes details of the administrative organisation of the empire, mentions a Frisii cohort stationed at Vindobala, a fort located at Hadrian's wall. This entry 'Tribunes cohortis primae Frixagorum Vindobala' however contains a possible spelling mistake, Frixagorum instead of Frisiavonum. This entry might however also refer to the Frisiavones tribe unrelated to the Frisii.
Here are images of: A map showing the location of the Frisii, A reconstruction of Castellum Flevum, A depiction of the Frisii fighting Romans by an unknown artist, A reconstruction of a Frisii fortification, A small piece of a Roman helmet, bottom left, found at Velsen where once the Castellum Flevum stood which was attacked by the Frisii, A depiction of the Goddess Freyja, the ancestral mother of the Frisii, from 1874,
