How do you honestly feel about konoha/the shinobi system in general?

Shinobi world is a fantastic fictional world with an ancient history that gives depth to its existence. But it's not perfect, because of all the practices that go on in it. The world is dark and mysterious and has a history that is as old as time.

But it is also a broken system of child soldiers, where children killing children or even adults taking advantage of children isn't seen as a bad thing. And that's why Naruto, the main character, exists, who acknowledges how messed up the system is and how hate and love are tied together and he is too naive to understand a lot of things.

We also see the other, darker side of the Shinobi world and Konoha, both, through Sasuke and Itachi. While Naruto's world is all sunshine and green and he learns through his experiences, Itachi has already seen the worst, has done the worst, and faced their consequences. Sasuke, much like him, although in ignorance, has experienced similar things and the way he responds to injustice against himself is a reflection of how violence is embedded in the system of its people, no matter how kind and gentle they otherwise are.

Many people criticise Sasuke for wanting revenge against Konoha, but "revenge" is also the reaction of Shikamaru and Naruto and they're expected to train and kill who killed their masters.

In their world, people not only are more violent to each other than an average person, but also have a higher pain tolerance. And since the ninja world is a place everyone is trying to survive, it's not a place to find out your heroes.

The good people here will have some kind of corruption in them and the bad people will have some kind of goodness to them. And at one point there are no lines because they're all so miserable and broken that one side can do anything whether it's morally right or not.

I feel majority of the fandom uses the real world as a kind of reference to analyse and assess the Shinobi world, which is unlikely to give you a clear image, because what the author is telling you is that the world he created has no heroes. If you're going to use your own personal moral lense to view the Shinobi world and judge characters based on what you approve or disapprove, you're not going to get a clear picture of it. IMO, this is the reason there are such hypocritical takes on the characters like Sasuke and Itachi and other morally ambiguous characters.

Konoha is the same. Since it's the village we spend most time with and the narrative never acknowledgew its system is wrong, it's easier to fall in love with it. Konoha isn't worse or better than the others, in my opinion. It's just that everyone in it sounds like a hypocrite. Kakashi, for example, tells Zabuza they're better people for not making kids kill each other, but then we're introduced to the Chunin exams. We have the venerated second Hokage who experimented with the dead bodies. Hyuuga clan practices slavery. And so on.

Konoha is more powerful than the other nations because they have the right strategy and the strongest tailed beast. And they manage to hide the genocide of its people, blame the victims, driving one away to death and blaming the other for wanting justice (while advocating the same ideals for others, as I mentioned above).

It's awful to see that Koshimoto leaves the darkness of his world unattended. It could be because he needs Boruto to run, so the issues Naruto promised Sasuke would get resolved are never actually resolved. He's probably uninterested. It should probably frustrate me more, but I think when I finished Naruto, I had expected this more or less. And it's been a long time since Manga ended (even it's been long enough for anime), so frustration isn't going to change anything.

Sasuke doesn't understand a lot of the things happening around him, but he doesn't really have time to worry because he's starting the academy soon and since Kakashi and Itachi are really busy, they enlist the help of Boar who insists on being called Tenzo. Which brings its own share of problems.

At first, everything is fine and dandy, Tenzo is good at training them, he says he used to be a captain but failed to say where he was. Regardless, his skills speak for themselves.

Still, Tenzo made one huge mistake.

He had assured him and Naruto that both Kakashi and Itachi knew what he was going to attempt to do and both had given him a green light to try.

He said he wanted to see if it would take care of the fox.

That was the first red flag, Sasuke had only heard people refer to Naruto as the fox contemptuously. Nothing ever good came out of that mean nickname. Sure, Naruto had whiskers and ears but nobody called the Inuzuka the dogs.

Still, Naruto seemed interested in Tenzo and he assured Sasuke everything was going to be okay and he was fine with trying whatever Yamato wanted because Kakashi had said it was okay.

They went to a training ground that was far away from the others and Tenzo summoned some weird wooden pilars from the ground. They formed a circle and Tenzo sat down on the inside while he instructed Naruto to stay still and Sasuke to step away.

Sasuke reluctantly listened and Naruto simply stayed put.

Tenzo pointed the palm of one of his hands at Naruto and for several seconds, it seemed like nothing was going to happen at all, Tenzo was frowning and all, and Naruto shared a confused glance and a shrug with Sasuke.

It looked like whatever Tenzo was trying, didn't work.

Until the screams started.

Sasuke was startled and Tenzo faltered but ultimately held strong and focused. It didn't make sense. Two seconds ago Naruto was just fine and now he was doubling over in pain.

"Stop that" Sasuke whispered, out of breath.

Tenzo couldn't have possibly heard him, but he was certainly not blind and could see how much Naruto was hurting.

Yet he didn't stop.

"Stop!" Sasuke screamed when Naruto tugged on his own hair.

Tenzo didn't listen.

He was concentrating. He may be able to separate Naruto and the Kyuubi, make sure the beast was properly sealed deep inside Naruto, and give the kid a safer chance at life.

If people ever wanted to find out who the jinchuriki of Konoha was, they would just need a glance at Naruto, which would put him in danger.

He was, perhaps, too concentrated.

When he noticed a small body was kicking at his hands with unexpected strength and red eyes staring him down fiercely, he realized he may have gone too far.

The little Uchiha boy kept trying to kick and hit until Tenzo retreated into the trees, keeping the boys in sight.

As soon as Tenzo was far enough, Sasuke ran back to Naruto to check on him.

The other boy had passed out but he was breathing and his face wasn't scrunched in pain.

When Kakashi and Itachi arrived to pick them up, they didn't seem very thrilled about Tenzo going as far as he did and Kakashi told him a talk was needed.

"I'm so sorry... I thought he could take it" He stuttered.

"Not all kids are like us" Itachi chastized. Sasuke didn't know very well what that meant but Tenzo seemed to and looked properly ashamed.

"Anything else?" Kakashi raised a brow at Tenzo.

The man shook his head but then stopped and glanced quickly at Sasuke and then back at Kakashi. Which obviously didn't go unnoticed by IItachi.

"Did you do something to him?" His brother's flaming hot rage could be heard and felt even through his passive face.

"N-no!" Tenzo stumbled back. "He, uh, the sharingan"

Itachi snapped out of his threatening mode to look at Sasuke with wide eyes. "You awakened the sharingan because Naruto was hurt?"

Huh, well, Sasuke guesses he did.

I agree about Lee, it seems to me that in general many people agree, it fits well with the theme of the gate & 'Handsome Devil of the Hidden Leaf Village' & 'Konoha's Beautiful Green Wild Beast' (and obviously the topics of interest to me are about acceptance/negativity in all my damn AU.)in addition, I recently realized the relationship with THIS. 😤

with Gaara, I eventually settled on a folklore golem. (sorry, I hate vampire themes)

- golem is supposed to do everything that its creator commands it to do, although there are stories of golems turning on their creators and becoming uncontrollably violent. Although they usually start out as unthinking robot-like beings, in some stories, golems develop thoughts and emotions similar to those of people.

- the golem is activated by having the Hebrew word emet, meaning truth, written on its forehead. To deactivate the golem, one character is erased, leaving the word met, Hebrew for death, left on its forehead.

(the word "love" on the forehead eventually fits so well into the concept)

Gai Week, Day 4; Turtle

Ninjas don't live long. Every time you see an elderly ninja, you must be extra weary: for they have survived long past their prime, and have taken down oceans of men who tried to cut them down.

Most ninjas won't get to know their history. They will not have the opportunity to learn from their mistakes. Nor learn about the stories of the past unless they the extreme luck of being there personally when it happened, or knowing someone who was.

Even than, getting the full story revealed was exceptionally rare, as Ninjas are trained from birth to hide their secrets. So whatever you heard was unlikely to be completely truthful. The second hand information will lack detail, or be exaggerated past the point of realism to protect one secrets, or bolter ones ego.

With all that in mind, Gai knew there was only one way for a young man such as himself, to learn the history of the world. He would need to meet and gain the trust of someone not only old, but ancient. He would make a pact with someone without ego, who would be willing to tell the secrets of this world.

He could not look to man for answers...

Blood poured down his hand as he wrote his name on the scroll. Kakashi had told him the basics of summoning when they were little. How to make a contract. The amount of chakra needed. The cost of failure... that was before he closed his heart off to him. Before war had taken their friends and stripped them of what remained of their innocence. It had currently lead his beloved rival and friend to the shadows. Far away from him, and towards Danzo. A respected elder of the village, who had no respect for him.

Gai took a deep breath as he looked at his name written along the scroll. He wassn't supposed to have found this. The rogue ninjas he had taken down were thieves and opportunists who mistook his optism for obliviousness. And it had cost them their haul, their freedom and awarded Gai thier bounty once he returned home.

But for Gai, all that paled when he realized what they had in their possession. What these fools had over looked. They must have intended to sell it for a quick buck. But for him...he knew this one scroll would possibly change the future of his life.

He took a deep breath, channeling his chackra as he formed the hand seals he saw Kakashi perform hundreds of times before, and than he finally placed his hand down, watching the black seals erupt from under his palms.

The puff of smoke filled the area, Gai felt his eyes and smile widen. The giant shell came into view under his hands, gleaming in the dim light.

"Who are you, you little brat!?" The turtle called out. Biting at his hands.

Gai felt tears of joy fall down his face as he jumped away from the attack. He stared at the dark brown beak. The deep wrinkles under its eyes. Its rough skin was hanging off its body, mostly hidden under the rock hard shell. It was ancient...

But it was powerful.

It was everything Gai could have ever wanted.

"WHAT A JOY TO MEET SOMEONE SO BEAUTIFUL!!!" Gai exclaimed to the world. "I am Konoha's mighty yet youthful green beast: Maito Gai! And I would like to be your new summoner! If you'll have me!"

No matter what happened, Gai was going to make this relationship work.

ohhhh im so excited you asked this one! ive been soooo eager to get this fic started and i keep almost doing so and then gettin sidetracked

so this is a magical creature AU! i got the prompt from a fic prompt blog like right after finishing Pearl-Filled Lungs, and since I'd just done that I wanted to do something different so I decided to do a dragon fic! in this fic, Lee is a dragon (based on Chinese dragons.)

the title is a play on Lee's epithet, Konoha's Beautiful Blue Beast, and Cāngdì comes from the Wǔfāng Shàngdì and means 'green deity' or 'green emperor'.

so far i have a summary of the overall fic and brief chapter-by-chapter summaries, along with chapter titles. this fic will be 9 chapters long based on the Chinese association of dragons and the number 9.

here is the majority of the summary i have:

Lee is a dragon, kidnapped from his home atop the eastern peak of Mount Cāngdì. He's young for a dragon, and thus small, and he cannot do most magic or fly making it easy to capture him. He was abducted by people in the exotic animal trade, who had been commissioned by the kaze daimyo. He had intended it as a gift for his daughter but she is scared of Lee, and so the daimyo uses it to boost his own ego, parading Lee out at formal events and political meetings and the like. On his 20th birthday, Gaara is sent to live in the daimyo's court at his father's behest. Rasa does not trust Gaara and hopes that the courts influence on his youngest will change his idealistic ways. Plus, Rasa is hoping for a political marriage between Gaara and the daimyo's daughter, something which Gaara has no interest in. One night, he stumbles upon Lee's prison. He tries to approach, but Lee doesn't trust him and Gaara is forced to leave. After that first night, Gaara goes back to Lee repeatedly to earn his trust, and eventually they develop a friendship. Gaara is the only person Lee has ever spoken to in all the years he's been imprisoned in the daimyo's palace[...]

As explained by her backstory, Sasa has a disdain for men, making her naturally cold and authoritative. However, she can also be gentle and graceful. She has a strong personality like Tsunade but the wisdom of her mother. She is very intelligent and particularly perceptive. She enjoys teasing, especially Shikamaru, and much later, Temari. As part of the new generation that aims to unite nations, she will do everything in her power to strengthen the bonds between villages by becoming an ambassador and later a representative of Konoha in the Shinobi Union. She will not hesitate to risk her life to protect all ninjas during the Fourth Great Ninja War.

Appearance

Part I Sasa wears a reddish, copper-colored top with one black sleeve that extends to her hand, forming a sort of mitten with a metal plate. She wears high-waisted pants, with one leg cut off to form a short. She has fishnet tights and a pair of sandals. Her headband is on her right arm.

In Part II, her outfit changes radically. She opts for a classic forehead headband. She wears an asymmetrical green and yellow top with the Asahina clan symbol on the right side, a dark green suit, and classic black shoes. During the Fourth Great Ninja War, she wears the typical Konoha ninja uniform, initially with the Konoha symbol headband. When she is outside the front lines, she did not have the new headband, but she wears it with the Shinobi Alliance symbol when she joins Gaara on the battlefield.

Two years after the war, she wears a black dress with long sleeves resembling mittens and a turtleneck, a headband with the Sunagakure symbol, a blue skirt with the Asahina clan symbol, a metal plate similar to Part I, and a bandage on her left arm due to an injury in the war. She also wears black boots. Her hair is styled in a high ponytail. As accessories, she has earrings with fictitious scrolls and a pouch at her waist.

In Part III, she has a new hairstyle with bangs and straight hair. She wears a purple dress, black pants, black heels, a metal plate, and a bandage. Her headband is now worn at her waist.

Skills Chakra Nature

Sasa has a water (Suiton) chakra nature from her mother and wind (Futon) from her father. Thanks to her paternal grandmother, she learns to master the wind chakra, forsaking the water chakra. She also masters medical jutsu thanks to Tsunade. She has the Mizu (Water) pupils from her mother's Aamaï clan. She can create a water prison and a water wall, which she can later transform into a large wave. She uses everything without accessories. She can use scrolls for sealing techniques and, with her eyes, create a genjutsu where water becomes the enemy of her target.

During the Fourth Great Ninja War, she was recognized as a great user of both elements and nearly landed a legendary punch on Madara.

Two years after the war, she is recognized as the most powerful Suiton user in Konoha and one of the best in the world.

Intelligence

Sasa accurately analyzes the actions of her opponents, allowing her to predict their strategies in advance, thanks to Shikaku Nara's teachings. She often participates in Konoha's major meetings, is strategic, and later becomes Gaara's right-hand and a council member of Sunagakure.

Other Abilities

Sasa’s summon is Luna, a midnight-blue cat with whom she can combine strength and speed. Luna can also assist her with Genjutsu, and together they later create an attack combining Suiton and Luna’s abilities.
