Texas mayors heading to DC for Tuesday’s immigration announcement

Two Texas border mayors will travel to Washington on Tuesday when President Joe Biden will announce an executive order that will mark his latest and most aggressive plan to reduce the number of migrants allowed to seek asylum in the United States, US media reported.

Brownsville Mayor John Cowen and Edinburg Mayor Ramiro Garza confirmed they had received invitations from the White House for Tuesday’s immigration announcement. Cowen told the Associated Press that he plans to attend, while Garza said he would have more details about his plans on Monday.

Meanwhile, the Democratic mayor of Eagle Pass, a Texas-Mexico border town where the number of migrants has led to a clash between state and federal authorities over border security, had not received an invitation as of Sunday. The mayor from McAllen said he had received an invitation but was unable to attend because of prior commitments.

A White House spokesman did not immediately respond to a request for comment about other mayors who also received an invitation to the announcement.

Here is how I interpret the sitch

I think USA is close to collapse and sporadic civil war and a number of new countries will soon inhabit the continent much like what happened when Rome fell

The reason this is possible (and indeed likely) is because the level of corruption in federal politics has been red-lining and the alarm has been blaring for years with no action, this has led to a de facto power vacuum

Also, on the chance that any member of the Texas State Government, and particularly the Texas National Guard, is reading this, or anyone who has friends or family in such positions, this is your reminder that you have both a right and a duty to refuse illegal orders.

Re Greg Abbott's deliberate usurpation of Federal authority over the border, in defiance of a Supreme Court ruling, and the joint statement by 24 Republican State governors supporting his unconstitutional acts:

"If two or more persons in any State or Territory, or in any place subject to the jurisdiction of the United States, conspire... to oppose by force the authority thereof, or by force to prevent, hinder, or delay the execution of any law of the United States, or by force to seize, take, or possess any property of the United States contrary to the authority thereof, they shall each be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than twenty years, or both."- USC 2384.
