I'm a bit too anxious to say it out of Anon (because brain scream sometimes) but I want to say that I love all of the yandere wips/ficlets you've shared that I've read so far. ... which is funny because I normally dislike toxic routes in many otome.

I ADORE these short stories. Most of the Readers I've seen you've make so far? Are not frilly silly characters who are the Dumb Naive types that the narration tends to offer for immersion. And the Yanderes? TERRIFYINGLY COMPETENT. Whether they're terrifying on main or instead are very very good at hiding in plain sight.

The readers are smart and/or clever. Strong of will and the ones who fight go down swinging. It's not made easy for any of those yanderes even when they are stronger, although the ones I've seen that "hunt" the Readers are very much playing with their 'food'. Some Readers realize the threat too late but they try to escape too. And then some others don't catch on yet to the danger but its not because they're dumb but because there's no feasible way for them to realize anything's amiss yet, whether they're Isekais MCs or native OCs.

(I especially love the Chosen set. omg the chosen set. And the Aizawa and Yamada ones too, like oh my god yes.)

Probably the most Terrifying yanderes you've written (that I've so far read) are the platonic/paternal ones. Whether they lull the Reader into their web or outright steal them away for Bad Ending Hell. Just... god. The Grandmaster Demon Mage, the Mad Scientist 'Daddy'... and now the Villainess Isekai's King and Queen.

pray for those readers. At least "Grandlearner" is safe in the knowledge that no Route they're stuck in will last. The Golden Ending would require the other Routes after all. If Villainess Isekai realizes the danger... oof. And "Eve"? Hopefully she'll gain enough muscle autonomy to escape "daddy" because imagine being resigned to hoping for a quick death given the Dark SciFi Otome Backstory Hell she's trapped in.

I'm gonna send this before I talk myself down from it but thank you for writing these.

Cause like? Yandere? In my mind? Shouldn't be Real™. Like "more at 11" depressing, restraining order REAL. They should be the horror monster that LOVES you. The "I cracked along the fault lines and something UNHINGED bubbled up" that? Technically we all COULD be... if that part of our brains that stops us from metaphorically biting through our own fingers? Either turned OFF or never developed.

Enough unhinged 20 somethings! That's not a proper yandere! That's probably a mood swing! No... let them COOK. Let the crazy FESTER into a smile that doesn't reach the eyes and movements that are FAR too deliberate.

The fun of a yandere is that they are... INEVITABLE.

It's kinda like godzilla in a way. Or a forest fire. The odds aren't HIGH? But if you DO happen to be unlucky enough? All you can do is try to survive. As this Force Of Destruction rages around you.

But WORSE! Cause THIS one? Looooooves you!

May have POWER. A willingness to plan. To wait. To commit violence. And the power of the fanatic to drive them. Because, after all, they fight for True Love. For your FUTURE together. For the God of their delusions.

Aaaaah! There are so many types? I got really tired of them all going for the same template of a person? There are many ways to set off a bomb, after all! I am probably rambling and contradicting myself. I just have SO MANY THOOOOOUGHTS. Seriously, this is the nicest comment I've ever gotten? Just?

latest Freddie DeBoer seems odd. It's very focused on a sort of consumer-facing understanding of technology for a lot of its runtime. He's not wrong that the changes are smaller than they were in the 1800's but like. That's the low hanging fruit, we all know this, the jump from "not having trains" to "having trains" beats almost any improvement in "trains"

A major change technology has brought to the modern world imo is heavily streamlined manufacturing all across the industrial stack.

If you read like, Bunie Huang's Made in China blog series, in the early 2000's getting a piece of technology made required enormous in-person investment of time and effort working with your manufacturing teams across a pretty broad number of suppliers and industries, you had to get PCB's made, components sourced, moulds designed and set up for injection.

I know people manufacturing small to medium run commercial and industrial electronics, and I did that at my last job. You order machine populated PCB's from your favourite Chinese PCB solutions provider over a web form. If you need ten thousand buttons, you can get that delivered with three emails. Hell, if you want a custom genome to use for some experimental bioreactor, there's multiple competing suppliers who will mail you plasmids that you can customise from online templates and you don't even have to talk to anyone.

And that's just mass manufacturing. If you're making a few thousand of some high end medical equipment, or still in the development phase of design, you can order a titanium laser print to be delivered by the end of the week, or run off a dozen prototypes on your company's fleet of printers using body safe plastics.

Consumer needs don't change much because people are people, we have limited capacity to need things and do things. I've long said that no human can digest more than 50Mbps of media in real time, really. One home cook can only economise their movements so much. A food processor and a pressure cooker can save you some time but the solution to"I want to spend less time cooking at home" will eventually become "don't cook at home, lean on industrial manufacturing of food" and that's fine. There's only so much tech can improve your individual experience before you become the bottleneck.

Faster computers sure, means you can edit video on your phone a little quicker (also hey people ARE editing video on their phone, despite what this blog post says) but it also means Netflix can serve their 4 Petabytes of video library at 400+Gbps from a single server occupying less than 50 liters of space.

It seems disingenuous to act like consumer products feeling stagnant means technology is stagnant.

Your Guardian has to rest. What is their living space like: A very basic studio situated in the walls. It's very cheap and consists of a small kitchenette, a simple bathroom with a toilet, a sink and a bath/shower and a bedroom with a single bed. There's a rather big window that allows her to see the Last City. She often naps on the couch near said window.

Does your Guardian have any casual wear?: Yes (see references pics on refsheet.net)

What hobbies and/or skills does you Guardian have: Surprisingly talented with piano and singing, a hobby she hasn't much practiced before getting access to a musical hall in the Last City (thanks to some civilians she aided). Maja's also a rather skilled mechanic and sometimes likes to hang with Amanda when she needs to clear her mind off of things.

What would your Guardian's lore book be called: The Moon and the lion

Where was your Guardian reborn?: Found by her Ghost somewhere in nothern Europe, Maja was first reborn from the light in an old military hospital. Something must have gone terribly wrong considering all the skeletons found within the facility.

What were they wearing when they were reborn: She had a bulletproof vest with a massive hole near her heart location, military trousers and boots. Her vest was so torn she had to abandon it. Her hair had remnant of teal in it, her brown roots showing up.

What was their reaction to being reborn: Fear and anger. Had Atawhai not been there, she likely would have hurt Little Sunshine. The Ghost doesn't hold it against her, but like to tease her about it when the occasion comes.

What was their reaction to their first rez: She threw up bile. Happened after training with Atawhai (she mismanaged her grenade).

After being reborn, did they meet friendlies first or hostiles: Friendlies. Quickly learned that other lightbearers might not be as friendly as her mentor and friend and thus distrusted everyone they met.

Who was the first other Guardian they met?: As said earlier, Athawai.

Did your Guardian get reborn with, or find, any indication of their past life? If so what do they have/found: An hospital plastic bracelet. Her name was somewhat intact, her birthdate only showing the day and month.

Going back to your Guardian's lore book, what would be some some quotes or passages from their book: "People always think of me as weaker. I think they forget that no matter my size, I remain a Titan. Ever seen a Hunter fly?" "Sometimes, I regret not having been the one to have a final death. So many have died and I feel powerless. But then I remember that... No matter what, if I'm still there, that means I have to keep fighting to protect the City."

Does your Guardian have a significant other: It's complicated. (Mr Crucible Handler and this fierce titan have their ups and downs) She hasn't truly set her heart in a place, her long life having seen too many go.

Did your Guardian go explore first before going to The Last City? If so, where to: Since she was rezzed during the middle of the Dark Ages, Atawhai showed her a lot of places.

What was their reaction to first seeing The Last City: Maja and Atawhai came back to the Last City when the walls were mostly built. They did help before regaining the wilds and exploring more in the search of possible civilians to escort/save.

Is your Guardian a part of a clan: No Clan

If your Guardian would have a quote as a flavor text for a weapon and/or piece of armor, what would they be: For a bow: "Funny how when you fire with a bow, it's elegant and silent, but when you get hit, it's like a whole tree fell on you." | For a shotgun: "Being up close and personal like that... Just don't get your hopes up."

If your Guardian has had any interactions with any civilians (The Last City/The Farm), Eliksni, Cabal, Vex, Hive, Taken, Scorn, Rogue Lightbearers, or Iron Lords/War Lords(if your Guardian is an Old Light) tell us about it!: During the Dark Ages, Atawhai, part of the Sunbreak order, had cordial relations with the Iron Lords. They both kept their distance but wouldn't mind helping them if needed. They also happened to have accidentally crossed on Shaxx's territory more than once, earning them a few deaths, but never a permanent one. Atahwai thinks it amused Shaxx in a way to see Maja getting so riled up all the time.

Does your Guardian have any unconventional allies or connections(By Vanguard standards): At the time, yes. Maja had connections with some Eliksni's from the House of Devils after helping one of theirs from a certain death from one of the less savory guardians. This earned them to be able to cross some places without being harmed.

How does your Guardian feel about themselves or others using Stasis: Maja is scared of Stasis, not trusting herself with those powers.

Did they run The Last Wish raid? How did they react to seeing a live Ahamkara a.k.a Riven: Maja was around during the Great Hunt. She was heartbroken that these creatures were murdered due to guardians/people using the power of the Wish dragon to do wrong. She however understood why it happened, but never wants to tell tales about it.

Did they run The Deep Stone Crypt raid? How did they react to the Crypt and seeing Exo Eliskni: -

Osiris, First Warlock Vanguard, originally exiled: She has troubles wrapping her head around him. However, she deeply respect him, no matter how excentric he is

Eris Morn, Bane of the Swarm: Feels awfully sorry for her. Impressed by her.

Cayde-6, Sixth Hunter Vanguard: Finds him very irritable, but is a bit envious of his ability to defuse situations most of the time. His death came like a crashing wave, especially when she heard that it was Sentry who brought back Cayde's body.

Ikora Rey, Second Warlock Vanguard: Often talks with her when they have a bit of time, usually around a cup of coffee. Seeks her when she tries to figure her emotions out.

Commander Zavala, Second Titan Vanguard: Shows respect to him, they've always remained on strictly cordial and professional terms.

Saint-14, legendary Titan, First Titan Vanguard: Absolutely adores the Titan. When he first disappeared, she cried a lot, mourning a friend. Upon the news of him returning to the Tower after Traveler knows how long, was one of the first to greet him with the biggest Titan hug she could make.

Lord Saladin, Iron Banner handler, One of the last remaining Iron Lords: Dislikes him for his choices at Twilight Gap. Still shows him respect.

Lord Shaxx, Crucible handler, Hero of Twilight Gap, living megaphone: Has a strange relationship with the Warlord. Infatuated with him and wishes for more but their duties come first. Sometimes will spar with him, or just share a drink or two. Extremely admirative of him, she tries to outdo herself in the Crucible just to hear his praise on comms (and is often banned for the week for terrorizing the new lights due to it.)

The Crow, New Light, Ex-Enforcer to The Spider: Doesn't really interact much with him. Learned from Sentry about who he was and feels sorry for him.

The Spider, The Shore's Only Law, founder of "House" Spider: Would fight if she could.

Uldren Sov, Prince of the Reef, Master of Crows: Didn't like his antics at all.

Mara Sov, Queen of the Reef, Queen of the Awoken, Ex-Kell of Wolves: Respects her and will do duties if guardians are needed on the Reef. Curious about her. Learning about her and Shaxx's "affair" had her envious.

Variks, the Loyal, founder of House Judgement: No real interaction with him.

Mithrax, the Forsaken, Kell of Light, founder of House Light: Adores the Eliksni, taught him a few human things and will chase anyone teaching him anything wrong.

The Exo Stranger/Elizabeth "Elsie" Bray, Granddaughter of Clovis I and Sister to Ana Bray: Mysterious lady but likes her, especially since she's trying to save her sister in a way. At first, she was very suspicious of her due to her being a Bray.

Empress Caiatl of the Cabal Imperial Empire: Huge admiration on the Cabal Empress. Sparred with her and had great fun.

Taniks the Scarred, the Perfected, the Abomination, the Shadow Thief: Despises the fucker for killing Andal Brask. Can't believe he's not dead yet.

The Darkness is fast approaching. How is your Guardian handling it: Not too well. She is extremely anxious, especially since the Final Shape is upon them, but she will fight. Even if it means she'll draw her last breath. Little Sunshine is on board with it too.

And finally, does your Guardian have any advice for any New Lights: "Don't judge a book by its cover. I can toss a Hunter flying across Twilight Gap like no other."

It's not like he can reach up further than the bottoms of his eyes with that long and hologram disguised tongue as it slithered through its portal to attempt wiping the windshield of his vision, but his growling stomach now realizing it had been starved for over a month now demanded he try. The result is frustrated huffs expelling hot dribbles of drool that puddle into the offering plate of an empty pie tin. And when he notices that- he laps it up too- just in case there's a shred more of sustenance to be found in the particles of his own saliva.

Only once he's bruised the limits of his tongue's reach does he refocus- locking looks with the provider of the annihilated pie for a full, unassuming minute before the smug smile of the other agitates him out of his seat- talon gripping the edge of the table and scraping the wood as he slowly stalked along its circumstance, eyes not so much as blinking. Though it wasn't like that was much of an alarm given how permanent a backlit expression could be.

"More. Chop fucking chop." He reiterates, slamming his fist down onto the table and cracking it down the middle with the blow as he nears where the other had frozen in place as if enamored by his pie eating capabilities. Leave it to this bastard to demand he eat only to feign confusion at a request for seconds and later fifths when he actually did so. The man could split him in half just as he did the table, he really could.

But before he could think of how to do that once reaching his destination- another smaller table is conjured between them along with that plate of pasta that looked surprisingly intact after his earlier tantrum spent with it. A turn and attempt at leaning down over the steaming food results in choked confusion however when the feeling of heated light hangs in a chained loop around the coil of his robe's high collar, squeezing just slightly before a chain sprouts from it and settles into a hand that yanks the great span of his spine into a doubled down curve. With a snarl and resisting jerk of his head that did little to scoot him any meaningful distance from the handler's observations, he's forced to accept the condescending swab of a handkerchief across the rest of his face, sputtering and utterly unsuccessful in tipping his gaze away from the squeaking of fabric against glass as it polishes the gravy stains out.

With the reappearance of another pie that smells just enticing enough for his stomach to lurch at as the rest of him remained held at an aggravating distance thanks to whatever these new fangless restraints were, Lucifer's gloves grinding into his mouth's corner are subject to another salivation deposit that drips in feral frequency as he catches a certain whiff of something equally as primal below eye level, causing him shudders on the spot from the familiar serpentine whispers at his neck that served as the template of temptation as far as human hunger went since some six thousand years prior.

Expelling another haggard huff that blows wisps of the other's hair back with the exertion of a bear after it charges, he's thinking less of any promised dessert and more about the two dishes of food left at his disclosure as he straightens with a stagger out of the dissipating squeeze of infernal chains dismissed.

Feasting is far more poetic a word than what he actually resorts to. Because as he curls over from head to naval to reach the pie at table level with his mouth in a surge of impatience, several snaps of teeth end with a scalded tongue and chunks of pie filling expelled with a 'puh?!' right into the plate of pasta. Only a couple of warding shakes of his head seem needed to cool the initial bite of the burn before he's sinking talons in to the web of pasta, twirling and mixing the edition of spit, gravy and pie chunks into the other dish before lifting practically the entire angel hair lump to his mouth where he proceeds to shove and slurp the mass inch by inch that he only snaps into swallowable sections at the last set of molars, a groan following each gulp as he spears leftover meatballs onto his talons for once the last of the noodles have slid down.

Like kabobs, his talons dip their spread of balled meat into the pie next that had since cooled since he'd broken its crust in his haste. Scooping up handful after handful of the soupy filling, he shovels it in and bites off each gravy soaked meat ball during the sloppy process until there was again nothing left to do but lather the bottom of the pie tin with his tongue once again. Only this time his gaze wanders up mid slide to study the cross legged devil with some sneering conviction. He'd wondered what kind of game the other was playing at besides humiliation, but after catching whiff of...that- he's not so sure. Doesn't change the fact that he wants to shove him right off that high perch of his. Then curb stomp that gaggy apple pie straight through his skull.

He cleans his fingers one by one, a tad less mindless with the added weight in his stomach. "Yeeeeeah- how about no?? To dessert, I mean. I'm like~ watching my figure and shit." Of course he was. After three full entrees. Seems he's not the only one watching it too. Watching his figure across the room- that was.

this era saw a lot of stuff like H2O: Footprints in the Sand and School Days. softcore ecchi made money in the domestic market, sure, but it was only within a super niche otaku space. if the space could be expanded like say towards overseas, then big $$ could be made.

for a while, this Big Thing was still in the process of being figured out. The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya was a light novel adapted into anime that saw BIG popularity overseas and so some efforts were made to adapt whatever and see what stuck, more in the Light Novel and Web Novel area.

and so they chanced upon and adatped SAO.

SAO had all the ingredients for what the average anime weaboo overseas was looking for. it had visual appeal, an easy to understand setting and a harem. but it was also super accessible despite being only a fraction as deep as .//Hack.

it also had the most delibrately blandly designed MC copied wholesale from Dating Sims and VNs at the time. tailor made to be easily projectable from the male audience with a Super Special Secret Superpower Talent he has that can save the world and his girlfriends if push comes to shove. the ideal hero for a crowd of teenagers.

and then it proceeded to be a big hit internationally, generating big fucking bucks like nothing before.

so the fat cats all decided to look for more works that fit SAO's template. since 2010 there has been a major uptick in isekais, pushing a lot of everything else into the wayside. interestingly, dating sim VNs adaptation also saw a massive drop, as with VNs in general. (think Steins:Gate) notably, the shoujo genre saw a massive slump in adaptation until Monthly Girls' Nozaki came along.

btw all those shitty animes are still being done bc they know throwing it on streaming sites like Netflix and Crunchyroll will generate greens Eventually. they're junk food mostly for the international audience. always has been. (meanwhile the animators in japan are being paid like $800 and everything is outsourced to the rest of asia to produce. the credit list is FULL of non-japanese sounding names and is increasing year on year l m a o)

Father: A pureblood wizard who has never been lucid enough to remember his own name, though typically goes by 'Bertie'. He seems perfectly happy, but it can't be known for sure. It is obvious, however, that he truly loves his daughter, seeming most sane when he is with her

Pets: An owl named Seafoam that Esme got before her first day of school. Seafoam stays at Nerida's house over summer break, just in case

She knows it isn't right for her father to be trapped like he is, but she can't work up the courage to ask her mother for his freedom out of fear she'll never see him again, and she can't deny how safe she feels when she's nestled in her mother's deadly arms

- The friendship started off very weird and uncomfortable with poor Nerida's merfolk obsession, but Esme did appreciate someone thinking she was cool rather than terrifying. Once Nerida calmed down a little and Esme opened up more, the two became loser besties together. Esme still refuses to bring Nerida home to meet her mother no matter how much she begs, but she will answer any questions now that she trusts her and supports her dream of being a merfolk ambassador

Frenemy: Imelda Reyes

- Imelda claims she's not mad about Nerida, but she definitely is. They don't really get along, but will be the first to defend the other if someone else says anything. Sometimes they have late night 'bonding' sessions where they just bitch about everyone else. A formidable team during Quidditch, somehow able to sense each others' moves before they happen

Friend She Didn't Expect: Poppy Sweeting

- Poppy was never the type to talk to her fellow humans, and Esme always assumed that if Poppy did talk to her, it would be much in the same way as Nerida used to. The events of fifth year force them to converse, and thankfully, Poppy accepts that Esme refuses to speak about her siren heritage much. They become rather close through hunting poachers

In June of 1891, Esme stumbles upon a Dark Arts arena while exploring and is roped into the fight. Here she gives in to her morbid curiosity and casts as many Unforgivables as she pleases. Surely, the use of them is justified - these people had all agreed to the risks, why shouldn't she cast them? Still, the addictive quality of the power frightens her and once she wins, she vows to never use the curses again... except in emergencies. Probably.

In April of 1893, Esme has the dreaded talk with her mother: asking to free her father. Her mother is unhappy and refuses. Esme asks again shortly before graduation, stating that she wants him to be able to come since neither her mother nor her aunts could attend. Her mother is still displeased, but reluctantly agrees. Esme activates her own song on her father once her mother's is released so that she can walk him to the nearby hamlet safely, and then frees him. He's too disoriented after spending nearly twenty years under song to take care of himself; she checks him into St. Mungos (difficult without knowing his real identity). He's well enough to attend graduation.

In August of 1895, Nerida is allowed to visit the sirens while under Esme's song. Throughout the visit, Esme makes sure to instruct Nerida to "remember" so that she can write all important information down later.

On December 31, 1899, Esme and Adelaide are married after dating for two and a half years. It is an outdoor, nighttime ceremony, and they are wed standing in the snow. The reception lasts long enough to ring in the new century. Before the honeymoon, Adelaide is brought home to meet Esme's mother: lucid, in a show of immense trust

As for careers, Adelaide follows in her uncle's footsteps as a metal trader, and Esme does bounty work to support her creature sanctuary with Poppy
