Backstory: The only known siren hybrid, Esme was raised in an underwater cave system as a vicious beast with little to no regard for her food mankind. Sure, she could play the part of a terrifying cute little girl helping her not-all-there father with his errands when needed, but she never imagined that one day she'd be invited to assimilate into human society - yet that was exactly what happened when a bold witch waltzed right up to the entrance of the caves and called out her name. One simple letter, received at 11 years old, changed the course of her entire future

Siren Capabilities:

- Siren Song: Esme speaking in a normal tone is strong enough to influence most people for a short while, but resistance can be built up. If she sings, however, there is no hope of resisting. The victim would have to be released voluntarily. This ability is forbidden at Hogwarts for any reason. Even one infraction will get Esme expelled, which of course means she's used it multiple times

- Siren Code: not binding, but the code states that if a human is under a siren's song, no other siren may touch them. Many other creatures also respect this. The code is incredibly useful in risky situations

- Becomes visually more siren-like when submerged, including pointier teeth, claws, fins, and teal tinted skin

Family

Mother: A siren whose name has no english translation. She is all that a siren entails, seductive and bloodthirsty - other than her human pet who she won't allow any of her sisters to eat. It can't be said if she truly loves him, but she's kept him under her song for close to two decades now and protected him the whole time, so she certainly favors him

Father: A pureblood wizard who has never been lucid enough to remember his own name, though typically goes by 'Bertie'. He seems perfectly happy, but it can't be known for sure. It is obvious, however, that he truly loves his daughter, seeming most sane when he is with her

Aunts: Various sirens that give terrible advice, unless you're looking for a revenge plan

Pets: An owl named Seafoam that Esme got before her first day of school. Seafoam stays at Nerida's house over summer break, just in case

Family Dynamic: Esme loves her parents dearly and can sometimes be purposefully naive about the whole situation. She knows it isn't right for her father to be trapped like he is, but she can't work up the courage to ask her mother for his freedom out of fear she'll never see him again, and she can't deny how safe she feels when she's nestled in her mother's deadly arms

Friendships

Best Friend: Nerida Roberts

- The friendship started off very weird and uncomfortable with poor Nerida's merfolk obsession, but Esme did appreciate someone thinking she was cool rather than terrifying. Once Nerida calmed down a little and Esme opened up more, the two became loser besties together. Esme still refuses to bring Nerida home to meet her mother no matter how much she begs, but she will answer any questions now that she trusts her and supports her dream of being a merfolk ambassador

Frenemy: Imelda Reyes

- Imelda claims she's not mad about Nerida, but she definitely is. They don't really get along, but will be the first to defend the other if someone else says anything. Sometimes they have late night 'bonding' sessions where they just bitch about everyone else. A formidable team during Quidditch, somehow able to sense each others' moves before they happen

Friend She Didn't Expect: Poppy Sweeting

- Poppy was never the type to talk to her fellow humans, and Esme always assumed that if Poppy did talk to her, it would be much in the same way as Nerida used to. The events of fifth year force them to converse, and thankfully, Poppy accepts that Esme refuses to speak about her siren heritage much. They become rather close through hunting poachers

Future

In June of 1891, Esme stumbles upon a Dark Arts arena while exploring and is roped into the fight. Here she gives in to her morbid curiosity and casts as many Unforgivables as she pleases. Surely, the use of them is justified - these people had all agreed to the risks, why shouldn't she cast them? Still, the addictive quality of the power frightens her and once she wins, she vows to never use the curses again... except in emergencies. Probably.

In April of 1893, Esme has the dreaded talk with her mother: asking to free her father. Her mother is unhappy and refuses. Esme asks again shortly before graduation, stating that she wants him to be able to come since neither her mother nor her aunts could attend. Her mother is still displeased, but reluctantly agrees. Esme activates her own song on her father once her mother's is released so that she can walk him to the nearby hamlet safely, and then frees him. He's too disoriented after spending nearly twenty years under song to take care of himself; she checks him into St. Mungos (difficult without knowing his real identity). He's well enough to attend graduation.

In August of 1895, Nerida is allowed to visit the sirens while under Esme's song. Throughout the visit, Esme makes sure to instruct Nerida to "remember" so that she can write all important information down later.

On December 31, 1899, Esme and Adelaide are married after dating for two and a half years. It is an outdoor, nighttime ceremony, and they are wed standing in the snow. The reception lasts long enough to ring in the new century. Before the honeymoon, Adelaide is brought home to meet Esme's mother: lucid, in a show of immense trust

As for careers, Adelaide follows in her uncle's footsteps as a metal trader, and Esme does bounty work to support her creature sanctuary with Poppy

Everyone looks at least a little different except Alexis, who I've decided was perfect the first time. Esme only has different eyebrows and Lukas has silver eyes now. Everyone's skin tones might be a little off since that's one of the only things you can't change after starting the game, so I couldn't check their settings and just did the best I could. Joshua does look pretty different, mainly in his coloring. This is him in a glamored state - Madam Snelling put a very strong Colovaria charm on him so that he doesn't stand out quite so much. His natural hair/eye color is still blood red. I'm certain I made his skin darker than before, but with him it was on purpose.

I find it weird that the only good angle you can get of your characters is when you make them; I'd have to download some sort of pausing or pose mod to get good screenshots of them while playing. The angle in the menu is awful skjgkjdlgjd

I still have the old saves of everyone except Josh (sorry buddy, you were the least far along), but I was cursed with new ideas and ended up playing in the character creator. While I was there I figured I'd get better pics of my ogs. New ocs coming soon! Sneak peak of their names in my pinned post - plus I updated it to show who everyone is shipped with :P

I know everyone is playing Magic Awakened right now, but I finally got Hogwarts Legacy to run without crashing so I'm finally playing that! And as always, I've made a batch of ocs. Introducing Esme, Alexis, Joshua, and Liam

Esme Taelceon: The daughter of a pureblood wizard and an almost friendly siren. Esme is a very timid girl, never speaking above a whisper in the hopes of her siren powers never making someone do something against their will - unless she's desperate. She hates how much her appearance strikes fear into her classmates and goes out of her way to be helpful.

Alexis Hornstagle: A normal muggle girl with no connection to the wizarding world until her fifteenth birthday when she was attacked by a werewolf and turned, suddenly activating powers beyond what she should ever have been capable of. Alexis hides her terror of further attack behind a cold exterior, though she's loudly protective of her friends.

Joshua Jimmensong: The son of cursed parents who came out of the womb marked for death. A swirling angry scar rests above his heart and branches out across his whole body, and his magic is too powerful for how frail he is. Joshua is a right asshole to most people, but he wishes he knew how to be kind. His only hope is that he'll make the most of his (likely) short life.

Lukas Froll: A young man with absolutely nothing extraordinary about him and he likes it that way. He's average in his classes, not popular but not unpopular; unremarkable. That changes when he begins spending too much time with the three freaks of the school and discovers he also has powers he shouldn't. Seems he's doomed to have a wild destiny after all. Bugger.

They all have characteristics of being the proper mc, like all having access to ancient magic, though in lore only Alexis joins the school late. I've tentatively decided who each of them will be romantically interested in - one of them being a simp for a certain Slytherin, because obviously - but I want to get further into the game before I set it in stone.

I was originally going to play as Ida and Sebastien, ocs I developed a long time ago, but while playing through the game I decided that it didn't fit who I wanted them to be, so they'll be used for something else instead. The curse of making my own lore before giving the game a chance to explain itself :P

Hi Zin! I have a hard time falling asleep tonight so I'd thought I'd ask how your HL OCs would get along with Danny as friends?

Heyo! After rereading through Danny's profile, I've decided:

Lukas would be his best bet for a good friend! They'd be dormmates, and Lukas sticks close to his fellow Ravenclaws for the most part until fifth year. Lukas is pretty shy and nerdy, liking to fade into the background when he can, but with the right people he's an absolute riot. I can imagine a lot of boys' nights in the dorms with them and Amit/Andrew throughout the years, as well as study groups with Samantha, Hogsmeade trips, and cheering at Quidditch matches. Danny would probably also be one of the first to figure out Lukas' major crush on Amit - though whether he gives advice or teases him relentlessly (or both!) would be up to him. They're similar people but different enough that they can play off of one another

Esme would unfortunately hate him. It wouldn't be instant, but over time she'd grow to resent his ability to work through his social anxiety and make/keep strong friendships, which is something that she was never really capable of. If she ever learned of his younger childhood, she'd also resent him out of the knowledge that he'd probably be the type to condemn her for allowing her mother's imprisonment of her father to continue. Even after she grows up a bit more and learns the ways of being social, Esme would be too deep in the grudge to ever "forgive" him. She would, however, at least appreciate that he sees her as human rather than a monster

In between the two extremes in Joshua. Josh ends up a minor bully in his younger Hogwarts years, but he's not trying to be. It's a result of never really meeting other kids his age before and not knowing how to interact with someone who isn't trying to control him like his pos family. Before Natty enters the scene and knocks some sense into him, I can see Josh being a jerk to someone like Danny. But if Danny kept being nice, once they got older Josh would be able to apologize and they could be decent friends if he forgave him!

Alexis, being the MC and only arriving in fifth year, may not really even know he exists? Between the whole sudden magic thing, the werewolf thing, having to make up for 4 extra years of school, and the Minister, she's got a lot going on and doesn't have time for friends that aren't assets on her quest. She'd probably only know him as one of Lukas' friends, though maybe come sixth year there'd be more of an opportunity for friendship!
