🟧 AFTER YOM KIPPUR - Updates from Israel
THANKS - special thanks to our valiant soldiers who spent their Yom Kippur keeping us safe instead of with their families or in synagogue.  Our prayers are in their merit.
⭕SUICIDE DRONES from HEZBOLLAH hit HERTZILYA on Yom Kippur night, hitting a NURSING HOME.  1 intercepted, 1 got through.  1 injury.
⭕HEAVY ROCKET BARRAGES across the north, hitting Haifa, Acco, Karmiel, Safed, Rosh Pina, and towns throughout the north over Yom Kippur.  3 people were slightly injured by a rocket falling in the Western Galilee and 12 were slightly injured on the way to a protected area.
⭕ROCKETS FROM GAZA on Yom Kippur, to southern Ashkelon.  No casualties, and the IDF continues a policy of forced evac of source areas of fire.
▪️YOM KIPPUR - medics treated 286 fainted, dehydrated or felt ill due to the fast, and took 146 women in labor to the hospitals, one who gave birth in the ambulance.
▪️A HERO SOLDIER HAS FALLEN.. in battle in Gaza before Yom Kippur.. Ittai Fogel, 22, from Yakir.  May his family be comforted among the mourners of Zion and Jerusalem, and may G-d avenge his blood!
❗️On Yom Kippur the IDF had 1 serious injury in battle in Gaza, no others casualties.
♦️IDF airstrikes on 280 targets throughout the holiday, in Lebanon and Gaza.
♦️IDF forces eliminated 50 terrorists in face-to-face encounters and directed air force strikes, and destroyed more than 200 Hezbollah terrorist targets from the air and with artillery.
♦️IDF created a small border buffer into SYRIA, in the Alonei Habashan - Kwdana area.
🔹The Christian sectors in Lebanon are in talks to form a political alliance against the Hezbollah.
🔹Yemeni defense minister says an operation against the Houthi Rebels is "imminent”.
🔹Jordan’s Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi calls for Chapter VII of the UN Charter to be invoked to “force Israel to comply with international law and immediately end all its illegal wars” in Gaza, the occupied West Bank and Lebanon.  This framework allows the UN Security Council to impose sanctions or in extreme cases even military force to guard against threats to peace.
▪️Nicaragua announced the severance of relations with Israel "due to the attacks on the Palestinian lands".
▪️Speaker of the Iranian parliament arrived in Beirut and toured the area, leaving later in the day to Turkey.  This is the 2nd Iranian commercial-diplomatic flight to break the Israeli air ban.

In Daliyat al-Karmel and Isfiya in the Carmel area, the activity scale will shift from Partial Activity to Full Activity, with restrictions on gatherings of over 2,000 people. The rest of the country's guidelines remain unchanged. It is crucial to follow official Home Front Command channels and check updates on the National Emergency Portal and Home Front Command app.
🟥 As of 20:00 today, Zar'it, Shomera, Shtula, Netu'a, and Even Menachem in northern Israel will be declared a closed military zone. Entry to this area will be prohibited for security reasons.
For the first time in the Middle East war, the US intends to deploy its THAAD (Terminal High Altitude Area Defense) anti-ballistic air defense system in Israel to prepare for a potential Iranian attack. This system is designed to intercept and destroy ballistic missiles, providing a high level of protection.
◾The US has also announced new sanctions on Iran's oil sector in response to Tehran’s missile attack on Israel.

Arezo Khavari was a 16-year-old student in Tehran, whose parents moved to Iran from Afghanistan. According to people close to Arezo described her as a bright and energetic girl. She attended Kosar School in Rey, south of Tehran where she was known for her lively personality, intelligence, and sociability.
On 26 October 2024(5 Aban 1403), Arezo joined her classmates on a school tour. During the trip, she wore jeans and removed her headscarf in a moment of joy with friends, dancing briefly, a natural expression of youthful happiness. However, this simple act provoked the school’s deputy principal, who filmed Arezo without her knowledge and threatened to show the footage to the school administration. For Arezo, a student of Afghanistan’s nationality, this threat loomed far larger than a disciplinary warning — her status as a foreign national made her education tenuous, and even a minor offence could lead to her expulsion.
Eyewitness accounts reveal the toll this confrontation took on Arezo. She was visibly shaken and experienced episodes of nausea, vomiting due to the stress of being reprimanded, filmed, and threatened. By the end of the trip, her anxiety had reached a critical level, and her emotional distress was evident to those around her.

Near the end of many of our weekly conversations, I ask Yashayaie variations of the same question: How can one hold revolutionary idealism, the belief that collective action can lead to the betterment of society, to such lofty concepts as “equality” and “justice,” when the movement’s romanticism has long fizzled out? As he listens he holds a sugar cube between his teeth and sips tea loudly, a talent unique to men of the old teahouses.
“God created the world in six days, supposedly, and we are still trying to make it better,” he replied once, before taking down the Book of Genesis from his library and reading its depiction of the Fall. “Because man is inherently flawed—and will always be seeking change,” he proclaimed, his head of thick, wavy white hair as smooth and resilient as freshly piled snow on a rooftop. Every generation can find a place to seek improvement over the status quo, he insists. “The question is the decisions you will make if and when you find yourself in that place.” (...)
What remains of Jewish life in Oudlajan today—a number of synagogues and a public bath adorned with rich wall carvings and intricate mirror work—exists mostly as destinations for walking tours. Yashayaie and a group of a dozen Jewish men who were born in the neighborhood still drive there every Shabbat morning to worship. Journalists and tour guides often ask Yashayaie whether they can see a Shabbat service, and when I make the same request he sticks to the script and invites me to Ezra Yaghoub Synagogue, the oldest that still survives in Oudlajan.
Muslims and Zoroastrians also lived in the Oudlajan of Haroun Yashayaie’s childhood, known as a Jewish neighborhood. Relationships were mostly cordial, defined by distance and respect, he says. On Shabbat, Muslim neighbors would turn on the lights of the synagogue. His brother helped Muslim neighbors cook nazri—food made for public distribution during Ashura, when the Shi’a mourn the death of Hussein ibn Ali, the grandson of Prophet Muhammad.

I’m semi shocked that the Colombia tour is later this week. I know people were floating a November date to compete with earth shot.
To be honest, they did it themselves. They told some sources November. Other sources were told August. It let them hedge their bets to see which got the more favorable attention.
I suspect there was backlash for November because of Earthshot so they went with August.
But you know how “Meghan plans, God laughs”? Okay, that’s not the real saying but you know what I mean - Meghan does this big thing expecting all the headlines and attention, but the universe delivers a karmic blow that drops her back to tomorrow’s fish paper where she belongs?
Well, looks like things are getting pretty tense over there in the Middle East, and something could be happening very soon:
I’ll check the Pizza Meter tonight.

While on approach to Heathrow, about five minutes before the flight was due to land, a 55-year-old Australian named Laurence James Downey went into the toilet and doused himself in petrol.[1] He then went to the cockpit and demanded that the plane continue on to Le Touquet – Côte d'Opale Airport in France, and refuel there for a flight to Tehran, Iran.[2][3] Upon landing at Le Touquet, Downey further demanded the publication in the Irish press of a nine-page statement which he had the captain throw from the cockpit window.[4]
After an eight-hour standoff (during which time Downey released 11 of his 108 hostages),[5] French special forces stormed the plane and apprehended Downey. No shots were fired and nobody was injured.[6] It was later found out that Downey was being sought by police in Perth, Australia, in connection with a $70,000 land fraud incident,[7] and was also wanted in Shannon, Ireland, for alleged assault.[6] He was sentenced in February 1983, in Saint-Omer, France, to five years' imprisonment for air piracy.[8]
In his statement, Downey claimed to have been a Trappist monk in residence at Tre Fontane Abbey in the 1950s (this was later confirmed by monastery officials),[2] before he was expelled from the order for punching a superior in the face.[3] He then took a job as a tour guide in central Portugal, at a shrine devoted to Our Lady of Fátima, the reported origin of the Three Secrets of Fátima.[2] At the time of the hijacking, the third secret was known only to the Pope and other senior figures in the Catholic Church; Downey's statement called on the Vatican to release this secret to the public.[3]
on the third secret:
Sister Lúcia chose not to disclose the third secret in her memoir of August 1941. In 1943, Lúcia fell seriously ill with influenza and pleurisy. Bishop Silva, visiting her on 15 September 1943, suggested that she write the third secret down to ensure that it would be recorded in the event of her death. However, Lúcia was hesitant to do so as, upon receiving the secret, she had heard Mary say not to reveal it. Because Carmelite obedience requires that orders from superiors be regarded as coming directly from God, she was in a quandary as to whose orders took precedence. Finally, in mid-October, Bishop Silva sent her a letter containing a direct order to record the secret. Lúcia continued to struggle, even after this direct order. According to Lúcia, she overcame it after the Virgin Mary appeared to her in early January 1944 and said, "Write that which they command you, but not that which is given to you to understand of its meaning."[18]
The text of the third secret, according to the Vatican, was published on 26 June 2000:
The third part of the secret revealed at the Cova da Iria-Fátima, on 13 July 1917. I write in obedience to you, my God, who command me to do so through his Excellency the Bishop of Leiria and through your Most Holy Mother and mine. After the two parts which I have already explained, at the left of Our Lady and a little above, we saw an Angel with a flaming sword in his left hand; flashing, it gave out flames that looked as though they would set the world on fire; but they died out in contact with the splendour that Our Lady radiated towards him from her right hand: pointing to the earth with his right hand, the Angel cried out in a loud voice: 'Penance, Penance, Penance!'. And we saw in an immense light that is God, something similar to how people appear in a mirror when they pass in front of it, a Bishop dressed in White. We had the impression that it was the Holy Father. Other Bishops, Priests, men and women Religious going up a steep mountain, at the top of which there was a big Cross of rough-hewn trunks as of a cork-tree with the bark; before reaching there the Holy Father passed through a big city half in ruins and half trembling with halting step, afflicted with pain and sorrow, he prayed for the souls of the corpses he met on his way; having reached the top of the mountain, on his knees at the foot of the big Cross he was killed by a group of soldiers who fired bullets and arrows at him, and in the same way there died one after another the other Bishops, Priests, men and women Religious, and various lay people of different ranks and positions. Beneath the two arms of the Cross there were two Angels each with a crystal aspersorium in his hand, in which they gathered up the blood of the Martyrs and with it sprinkled the souls that were making their way to God.

Googoosh: the rise and fall of Iranian pop music
Tumblr media
Ben Forrest Sat 10 February 2024 23:00, UK
Pop music and Iran are not things you would immediately link together, especially not if your frame of cultural reference is based in the Western world. In actuality, the country of Iran has an incredibly rich music history dating back thousands of years. The output of Iran was incredibly influential on surrounding areas across West Asia and the Middle-East. In more recent times, Iran witnessed a blossoming pop music scene, with the pioneering sounds of Googoosh blazing the way.
Born as Faegheh Atashin in 1950 Tehran, Googoosh began singing at a very young age. After starring in various Persian films during the 1960s, her twenties saw her devote herself almost entirely to pop music. Blending the traditional sounds of West Asia with a kind of 1960s pop sensibility, Googoosh quickly became a cultural icon in Iran; women across the country rushed to copy her hairstyle and fashion sense, characterised by mini-skirts and bright colours.
Constantly pushing the boundaries of pop music and wowing audiences with her incredible tones, Googoosh reached the peak of her popularity during the 1970s. In addition to her legions of fans inside Iran, she became notable worldwide, with tracks like ‘Talagh’ earning her acclaim throughout much of West Asia and parts of Europe. Her chanson-style of performing, evoking images of Edith Piaf, often centred around themes of love and loss, proving to have universal appeal even among non-Persian speakers.
Tragically, the success witnessed by Googoosh during the 1970s would not be long-lasting. In 1979, the Iranian revolution saw the overthrow of the Pahlavi dynasty, to be replaced by an Islamic theocracy, a ruling government which prevails to this day as the Islamic Republic of Iran. Under this authoritarian regime, female performers were outlawed. While music is not inherently haram, music which may cause temptation is seen as an evil – leading all female voices to be banned. A common phrase used to justify the performance ban was the Arabic “sawt al-mar’a `awra,” or, “the voice of a woman is a shameful thing”.
Rather than fleeing her native lands in favour of a country with more accepting cultural scenes, Googoosh remained in the Islamic Republic of Iran, “out of love for [her] homeland”. In many ways, Googoosh acted as the perfect encapsulation of everything the 1979 revolution sought to banish: she was a fearless woman performing Western-inspired pop songs while bedecked in mini-skirts and vibrant colours. Nevertheless, she remained in Iran following the events of 1979. Retiring from performance – though, not by choice – Googoosh remained under the authoritarian rule of Iran until the new millennium, when she left the country for Canada, permitted to tour by the reformist presidency of Mohammad Khatami.
Recording material and performing live for the first time in over 20 years, the comeback of Googoosh was glorious. Selling out venues across the world in testament to her universal appeal, her 2000 tour came to a close with a date in Dubai on the eve of Nowruz (Iranian New Year); much of the audience had traversed the Persian Gulf from Iran to see their country’s cultural hero perform in the flesh.
For many, Googoosh is the singer of countless ear-worm pop tunes from the 1970s, but the Iranian singing sensation represents so much more. Googoosh represents the vibrancy and empowerment of the pre-revolutionary period in Iran, a time of real excitement among the country’s youth, characterised by trailblazing artistic movements which were later destroyed by the revolutionary state. Remaining active to this day, with a date at Wembley Arena due next month, Googoosh remains a beloved figure around the world, and an important point in the rich timeline of Iranian music.

Born a photographer March 29, 1944. Abbas Attar was an Iranian transplanted to Paris. He dedicated himself to documenting the political and social life of societies in conflict. In a career that spanned six decades, he covered wars and revolutions in Biafra, Bangladesh, Northern Ireland, Vietnam, the Middle East, Chile, Cuba, and South Africa during apartheid. He also documented life in Mexico over several years, and pursued a lifelong interest in religion and its intersection with society.
From 1978 to 1980, Abbas photographed the revolution in Iran, to which he returned in 1997 after seventeen years of voluntary exile. His book Iran Diary 1971-2002 is a critical interpretation of Iranian history, photographed and written as a private journal.
During his years of exile Abbas traveled constantly. Between 1983 and 1986 he journeyed through Mexico, attempting to photograph a country as a novelist might write about it. The resulting exhibition and book, Return to Mexico: Journeys Beyond the Mask, helped define his photographic aesthetic.
From 1987 to 1994, he focused on the growth of Islamism throughout the world. Allah O Akbar: A Journey Through Militant Islam, the subsequent book and exhibition, spanning twenty-nine countries and four continents, attracted special attention after the 9/11 attacks by Islamic jihadists. A later book, Faces of Christianity: A Photographic Journey (2000), and touring show, explored Christianity as a political, ritual and spiritual phenomenon.
Abbas’s concern with religion led him in 2000 to begin a project on animism, in which he sought to discover why non-rational ritual had re-emerged in a world increasingly defined by science and technology. He abandoned this undertaking in 2002, on the first anniversary of 9/11, to start a new long-term project about the clash of religions, defined as a culture rather than faith, which he believed are turning into political ideologies and therefore one of the sources of the strategic struggles of the contemporary world.
From 2008 to 2010 Abbas travelled the world of Buddhism, photographing with the same skeptical eye. In 2013, he concluded a similar long-term project on Hinduism.
Most recently before his death, Abbas was working on documenting Judaism around the world.
A member of Sipa from 1971 to 1973, then of Gamma from 1974 to 1980, Abbas joined Magnum Photos in 1981 and became a member in 1985.
On Wednesday April 25, 2018 the Iranian photographer Abbas Attar known simply as Abbas, died in Paris, aged 74.
According to Abbas, in a 2017 interview with Magnum, there are two photographic methods: “One is writing with light,” he said, “and the other is drawing with light.” While he viewed other Magnum photographers like Henri Cartier-Bresson as adherents of the latter, the former was the foundation of Abbas’ practice. In lieu of placing his focus on single moments in time, he looked at his photographs as interlinked elements of a greater whole. In this sense, Abbas was a storyteller, and his images were pages of tales on celluloid, which were no less arresting when viewed (or rather, read) in isolation.
In the same interview, Abbas noted that it was a 1968 trip to New Orleans that made him understand the importance of what he called “sequencing”, or creating a narrative thread through a series of images. Examples of this can be seen in Abbas’s book Return to Mexico: Journey Beyond the Mask (1992), a document of his travels through the country in the 1980s.
His books aside, Abbas’ work has been the subject of exhibitions in galleries and museums around the world, including the Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art, the National Museum of Singapore, Galerie FNAC and the Magnum Gallery in Paris, and the Grey Art Gallery at New York University.
“It is with immense sadness that we lose him,” Dworzak said. “May the gods and angels of all the world’s major religions he photographed so passionately be there for him.”

Russia Sends S-400 “Triumf” to Iran to Defend Nuclear Facilities?
Russia reportedly supplied the S-400 "Triumf" air defense system to Iran following a request from Tehran. Iranian military personnel acted swiftly to deliver and install the system at various locations across the country, primarily to defend its nuclear facilities.
Tumblr media
A few days ago, Defence Security Asia reported that Russia has begun supplying the long-range electronic warfare system “Murmansk-BN” to Iran.
Additionally, recent reports indicate that Moscow has also provided Iran with the S-400 “Triumf” air defense system.
Russia delivered the S-400 air defense system to Iran following a request from the latter, and Russian/Iranian military personnel swiftly installed the system at various locations in the country, particularly at its nuclear facilities.
The renowned American newspaper, the New York Times, confirmed the supply of the S-400 air defense system to Iran, citing statements from Iranian government officials and several officers from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
The provision of the S-400 “Triumf” air defense system, the “Murmansk-BN” electronic warfare system, and various other Russian-made weaponry to Iran comes amid Tehran’s threats of launching a massive attack on Israel in response to the killing of Hamas Political Bureau Chief Ismail Haniyeh by Israeli forces.
Tumblr media
In addition to Iran, Tehran-backed armed groups, including Hezbollah, the Houthis, and various other factions, have also threatened retaliatory attacks against Israel.
Conversely, Israel has declared that it will launch a major counterattack against Iran if Tehran initiates an assault.
Previously, Iran possessed the S-300 air defense system, but the acquisition of the S-400 system is more concerning for Israeli and American aircraft due to its ability to target aerial threats at a range of over 400 kilometers.
It was reported on August 2 that Russian transport aircraft landed at Tehran International Airport.
The aircraft were identified as IL-76TDs belonging to Gelix Airlines, a company known to be used by Moscow for covert arms deliveries under the guise of a civilian cargo airline.
In April, the American newspaper, The Washington Post, reported that Moscow had invited an Iranian delegation to visit various Russian arms manufacturing facilities, including companies producing key components for the S-400 air defense system.
Tumblr media
The delegation, comprising 17 senior Iranian officials, toured facilities owned by START NPP in Yekaterinburg, which manufactures critical components for the S-400 system.
The S-400 air defense system is highly feared by the Western world due to its capability to detect and destroy aerial targets, including stealth fighters like the F-35.
The system can engage targets at distances of up to 400 kilometers.
Certain variants of the S-400 system are equipped with high-powered radars capable of countering stealth technologies used by fighter jets like the F-35 and bombers.
According to US intelligence officials, the visit by the Iranian delegation to Russian arms manufacturing facilities underscores the close defense relationship between the two countries, especially after the outbreak of the conflict in Ukraine.
A few days ago, Iran reportedly received the long-range electronic warfare system “Murmansk-BN” from Russia to prepare for potential large-scale attacks by Israel and the United States.
Tumblr media
Reports indicate that Iran has deployed this long-range electronic warfare system in various parts of the country.
The “Murmansk-BN” system is said to be the most powerful electronic warfare system in the Russian military.
It can disrupt and intercept enemy radio signals, GPS, communications, satellites, and other electronic systems up to 5,000 kilometers away.
The primary purpose of this system is to disrupt and destroy high-frequency satellite communication systems used by the United States and NATO.
Additionally, it can render “smart munitions” and unmanned aerial systems “blind and deaf.”
Some defense analysts believe that the operational range of the Murmansk-BN system is not 5,000 kilometers but can extend up to 8,000 kilometers. — DSA
