Danny had come home to Fenton works only to find the place tossed and ransacked, the portal broken, and his family missing. Danny doesn’t know who to trust, but he needs to find his family and whoever took them. He can’t do it on his own though, He needs help. He needs a detective, and who better to help then the greatest detective in the world...

Bobo T. Chimpanzee aka Detective Chimp

For those of you unfamiliar with Detective Chimp, he is canonically the best detective in the world, better than Batman who is merely the best human detective. His skills include being able to speak to any living creature, eternal youth, hyperintelligence, incredible deductive skills, occult knowledge, and alcoholism

okay, the alcoholism isn’t a skill bit it’s wild he’s an alcoholic in canon. His entire lore is frankly wild, including Rex the Wonder Dog and the fountain of youth plus a court case that examined the implications of him being an animal owning his own business and making contracts. The ape has been in a surprising amount of team ups, from Batman, to the Shadowpact, and is in the regular rotation of Justice League Dark

He owns a magic sword called the Sword of Night, and is sassy with a sort of dry humor. Honestly kind of similar to constantine in some ways.

And Danny should play the Watson to his Sherlock.

It’s always disheartening to see the difference in views on the first episode of nightmare time compared to everything else. Last I checked ape man and watcher world had 500k views and everything heavily declined from there. Which sucks, because nightmare time is so important to Hatchetfield, it gives us new characters and lore and npmd isn’t as good if you don’t watch at least nightmare time 2 first

I think all these problems end up falling on specifically hatchetfield ape man. New characters for the most part (Hidgens, a mention of Becky, and Ted). Other than that everyone is entire new, we hadn’t even heard of an ape man before this. The format didn’t help with this either. I’m glad they changed from everyone being visible to just the people talking. It felt more professional that way. And the story itself is just lackluster. Lucy never comes back and neither does Chumby (I think that was his name). It wasn’t overly comedic or scary, it’s forgettable in every sense of the word and never lead anywhere. For nightmare time 1, watcher world introduces blinky, we get Paul 23 and Emdroid in forever and always, and people generally love Paul and Emma so they’re always fun to see. Same thing with Jane’s a Car, we also get teased as to the lords in blacks names in that. TB gives us Tinky and the Ted is the homeless man reveal, and Witch in the Web introduces Holloway and Duke, Webby in her human form, the black book, nightmare time as an actually setting, and more smaller things that are just great for the world building. That leaves Ape Man as the sore thumb, and not only that but it’s the first episode. It doesn’t help that they hadn’t figured out the format

It’s so sad I know so many people never made it past the first episode, especially since there’s so much amazing content to be had in NMT, especially NMT2

Personally I'm gonna interpret the stuff with the Australium and Administrator to be like. An allegory for addiction.

Like she needed it and it became a vicious cycle of getting it and using it, getting it using it etc etc. even at the cost of everything and at first there was a reason, and then that meaning is lost overtime to just get the Australium and be a hater

(this part was my girlfriend's interpretation) And when she dies that could be a metaphor for either her not taking an ultimatum (Red team gathering around her felt very intervention like) or overdosing

more people need to talk about matt dahan and his genius underscoring in nightmare time. like to name off a few of my favourite moments (these might not all be 100% correct bc i have a bad memory but i appreciate matt dahan nonetheless)

in almost every episode there’s musical references to the opening/credit song - ex. we hear the hatchetfield ape man motif before we even hear the song the hatchetfield ape man. same with one thousand eyes and the web i spin for you i believe

similarly there are lots of character motifs - show stopping number often plays when hidgens is onscreen, and when he discusses working boys that motif plays

keywords are often met with motifs too - i can remember a couple ultimatums that were accompanied by the join us and die instrumental

in watcher world there are lots of not your seed references, and during really tender alice and bill moments matt tends to play the “why does it hurt to love you” bit

adore me plays a lot for linda during honey queen

one of my personal favourites - when we first meet roman in honey queen the nibbly ditty plays as underscoring. like come on that’s genius.

in abstinence camp when boy jerry is hiding mary and noah’s bodies matt plays a slowed down version of virginity rocks

in yellow jacket when hannah’s driving her go kart around the new apartment matt plays janes a car

if i remember correctly hannah gets what if tomorrow comes motif a lot in yellow jacket

same with lex she gets the black friday motif a lot

also in yellow jacket when otho’s about to take hannah over matt plays let it out

yellow jacket just generally gets a lot of tgwdlm underscoring references whenever otho’s on screen

there’s almost definitely more so if you can think of any SAY IT but. matt dahan is a musical genius with what he does with jeff blim’s motifs for underscoring and to think that at least during the first nmt episode he like totally improvised the backing music… ugh he’s so amazing
