Overloading my brain by trying to imagine how Super Robot Wars with all the mecha media I've seen would work
Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans (In crossovers, the first step is always the most ordinary one.)
Mobile Suit Gundam: Witch From Mercury (Two series in and we already have two different definitions of the word "Gundam", off to a great start. At least these definitions are fairly compatible.)
MSG: Universal Century circa Zeta Gundam (More like universal attendance amirite? Also, we've got a third definition of "Gundam" that's not compatible with the definitions from the AU series; nobody in their right mind would name their new brand of mechas after ones that kill their pilots.)
Code Geass (Not sure how to reconcile both the Federation and Britannia being around, but SRW has done it before.)
Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann (Humans don't even rule the Earth in this one.)
Robotech (Yo dawg, I heard you like mecha crossovers, so I put a crossover pretending to be a generational epic in your crossover so you could crossover while you crossover.)
Last Hope (If the generic name means you have no clue what I'm talking about, it's a Netflix exclusive anime. The only series here in which giant non-sapient monsters exist.)
Dragon Pilot (Nothing in common with the rest of these series tonally, and the real-world Japan setting directly contradicts Code Geass.)
Daemon ex Machina (So the moon colonies from UC are just fucked, right?)
Pacific Rim (Okay, maybe not the only series with giant monsters.)
Ace Combat (Belka and the aggressor squadrons from 5 would make good overarching plot, and you can justify the series' traditional missiles you can dodge with one turn by saying that's the best you can do with Ahab reactors and Minovsky particles in play.)
From Yu-Gi-Oh, Sky Striker lore, Melffys piloting Divine Arsenal AA-Zeus, and Kaiba in defictionalized versions of his XYZ machine monsters and Blue-Eyes Jet Dragon (Here exactly because someone online proposed this as a way to put Yu-Gi-Oh in SRW and I liked their answer.)
And, of course, any number of pilot-a-ship bullet hells depending how loose I feel like playing it. The first boss of Dondonpachi Resurrection can transform between a humanoid mode and an airplane mode just like the Zeta Gundam.

Today In Card Design [13]: Don't GOUGE!
As more and more time goes on, card games seem to forget what rarity should actually be used for. I've decided to coin this problematic form of high rarity card design GOUGE design, which is an acronym for:
Generic: The effect is generically powerful in any deck that can run it, and chances are, a lot of decks can run it. (I.e. Magic's The One Ring; Yu-Gi-Oh's Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring)
Overpowered: The card is made high rarity because it does too much good, and making it harder to get theoretically makes it appear less often and do less damage. (I.e. Magic's Sheoldred, the Apocalypse; Yu-Gi-Oh's Divine Arsenal AA-ZEUS - Sky Thunder)
Undercosted: The card itself isn't strictly overpowered, but the resource cost is so low that the effect is suddenly extremely potent. (Magic's Ragavan, Nimble Pilferer; Yu-Gi-Oh's Diabellstar the Black Witch)
Glue: The card is a potent support card for a major archetype, not explicitly required but practically necessary for power level reasons. (Magic's Ulamog, the Defiler; Yu-Gi-Oh's Bonfire)
Effective: The combination of all of these elements to create a desirable chase card at very high rarity. (Quite a few cards already mentioned fit this category, but to add some more examples, look at Magic's Fury and Yu-Gi-Oh's Super Starslayer TY-PHON - Sky Crisis)
While a card leaning into one or even two of these tropes of GOUGE design doesn't automatically mean it's a no-go, you should consider a rarity downgrade so more players can get their hands on it. If downgrading the rarity would suddenly make the card much more problematic, then you've accidentally made a GOUGE card. That's fine! See if there's a way to retool the idea into something that still has the sort of flare you're going for, just without GOUGE'ing. If you can't, however, consider a replacement that's strong, but make sure it's not as strong and/or has more hoops to jump through for its use. If all else fails, just remember to avoid making your highest rarity cards the best in the game; it's okay if they're getting played in the main meta, but you should avoid any Mythics you'd anticipate could warp the game around them.

Master Duel WCQ 2023 DLv MAX decklist (Ishizu Naturia Vernusylph)
Tearlaments games were actually about 60% in my favor through the ranks but there weren’t as many of them as you might think. Good Floowandereeze match-up (Naturia Beast solos a lot of the time), good Spright match-up (same as before), TERRIBLE “60 random anti-Tearlaments cards” match-up
I would rather have been playing Donner, Dagger Fur Hire than Protector of the Agents - Moon, but I ran out of UR dust... most important cards in the extra besides the Naturia stuff are Bagooska for when you either brick or get Maxx “C”‘d and Abyss Dweller for the Tearlaments match-up. The rest are mostly personal preference.
You could maybe cut the deck down to 40 cards by taking out 1 Naturia Sacred Tree, the Naturia Horneedle, and the Crossout Designator, but with as many soft bricks as this deck is running 43 is honestly fine. 2 Naturia Beast came up surprisingly frequently, and the most shocking thing was probably how many games Naturia Stinkbug won me (like, at least 10% of my wins were from just Stinkbug). Get stinkbugged lol.
Text decklist below cut:
Main Deck:
3x Naturia Mole Cricket 1x Naturia Sunflower 3x Maxx “C” 1x Naturia Stinkbug 3x Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring 3x Vernusylph of the Misting Seedlings 1x Naturia Horneedle 3x Vernusylph of the Flourishing Hills 1x Vernusylph of the Awakening Forest 2x Keldo the Sacred Protector 3x Mudora the Sword Oracle 2x Kelbek the Ancient Vanguard 3x Naturia Camellia 1x Vera the Vernusylph Goddess 2x Called by the Grave 1x Crossout Designator 3x Naturia Blessing 3x Evenly Matched 3x Naturia Sacred Tree 1x Gravekeeper’s Trap
Extra Deck:
1x Naturia Exterio 2x Naturia Beast 1x Naturia Barkion 1x Baronne de Fleur 1x Swordsoul Supreme Sovereign - Chengying 1x Meliae of the Trees 1x Abyss Dweller 1x Number 41: Bagooska the Terribly Tired Tapir 1x Traptrix Allomerus 1x Divine Arsenal AA-ZEUS - Sky Thunder 1x Knightmare Cerberus 1x Aussa the Earth Charmer, Immovable 1x Protector of The Agents - Moon 1x Apollousa, Bow of the Goddess

One of my mutuals is showing off their deck on their blog, so I'm gonna show off mine. Not only because I don't want to have an unfair advantage next time we duel, but also just cause I want Tumblr to rate my deck... I'd post a picture but my cam quality is awful so I'll just rundown the deck list.

1x Spright Jet, Pixies, and Carrot,
2x Spright Red,
2x Nimble Beaver,
2x Melffy Catty, Puppy, and Pinny,
1x Melffy Wally,
2x Kalantosa, Mystical Beast of the Forest,
1x Dogoran, The Mad Flame Kaiju,
1x Red Resonator,
3x Small World,
2x Dark Ruler No More,
1x Harpie's Feather Duster,
2x Forbidden Droplet,
1x Called by the Grave, Spright Gamma Burst,
3x Infinite Impermanence,
2x Warning Point,
1x Tri-Brigade Revolt.
Extra Deck is Accesscode Talker, 2x Tri-Brigade Shuraig the Ominous Omen, Tri-Brigade Bearbrumm, Tri-Brigade Ferrijit, Salamangreat Almiraj, Divine Arsenal AA-Zeus, Gigantic Spright, Cat Shark, Sky Cavalry Centaurea, Joyous Melffys, Melffy of the Forest, Number 64: Ronin Racoon Sandayu, Number 2: Ninja Shadow Mosquito, and Merry Melffys.

New banlist! Notably this is for the OCG, so my understanding of how it effects the format isn't going to be great from the get-go. Anyway;
Only one forbidden card this banlist, and it is Beatrice, Lady of the Eternal - previously the card was limited; I suppose the OCG realised a limit was absolutely nothing to the strategies Beatrice heralded within decks that wanted her (Fiendsmith I know did, Yubel might've?) The only place left with Beatrice is MD.
Big limited list, which looks better than what the TCG got back in August; Fiendsmith Engraver and Fiendsmith's Tract hits for Fiendsmith; Diabellstar the Black Witch, Snake-Eyes Poplar, and Bonfire hits for Snake-Eyes (and really any deck that took advantage of Diabellstar's summon cost). On top of these hits were Phantom of Yubel and Tenpai Dragon Chundra (Phantom not getting hit was a total surprise in the TCG, so I'm glad they did get hit somewhere.) Zoodiac Drident, Master Peace, the True Dracoslaying King, Red-Eyes Dark Dragoon, and Snatch Steal have been released to the limited list also. Less enthused about Master Peace's release than the others (even Dragoon) given its effects.
Also big semi-limit list. Eva, Speedroid Terrortop, Dinowrestler Pankratops, M-X-Saber Invoker, and Luster Pendulum, the Dracoslayer were released from limited (none of these are hugely notable, but Speedroid is receiving support, so Terrortop going to 2 helps on that end.) Other releases include Gold Sarcophagus, Fusion Destiny, and Branded Opening. HEROs are getting support on the Evil end of things, so maybe Fusion Destiny will end up more impactful at 2 than other entries (except for maybe one particular entry.) Personally not sure how Branded fairs in the OCG, but good for them. The cards added to the list (instead of being released) include Nightmare Throne (another Yubel hit), Gozen Match (a boardbreaker/floodgate that isn't the most fun), and, apparently Maxx "C".
Unclear if Maxx "C" is facing what Ash Blossom and Joyous Spring did in the TCG, where it was unlimited, semi'd, and then unlimited again, or if they're slowly walking everyone's least favourite cockroach into a death spiral (even if that's an ant thing) until it's forbidden everywhere but MD (I imagine if the OCG doesn't even want Maxx "C" in the end, then neither will MD.)
Unlimits include the big Dragon Rulers, Performage Plushfire (who has been errata'd), SPYRAL Quik-fix (sure), Divine Arsenal AA-ZEUS – Sky Thunder (who doesn't care because you'll only really run 1 copy), Majespecter Unicorn - Kirin (supported recently), My Friend Purrely (sure), Raigeki and Lightning Storm (monster board breakers.)
My best guess is that this might change what decks are at the top, but won't absolutely manage it - Snake-Eyes was already hit with Ash at 1, and now Diabellstar and Poplar join it alongside Bonfire (this isn't quite enough to kill the deck, especially with Azamina, but it wounds it), and Fiendsmith losing 2 copies of Engraver doesn't necessarily spell doom, but does hurt. Yubel only having one Phantom of Yubel is, additionally, hurting but not dooming. Tenpai was already fairly dead from a limited Sangen Summoning, but perhaps not enough, so Chundra had to be limited.
We'll see if roach to 2 has any impact.
#marwospeaking#roach to 2 has happened before. notably. We'll see if this is a repeat or if they're actually tired of the bug
