King in Limbo
6 volumes (when complete, volume 1 releases Jan 16, 2024 in English)
Licensed by Kodansha
From the creator of Apple Children of Aeon comes a gripping, six-volume thriller manga about trauma, healing, friendship, and a global conspiracy to keep people sick. A must for fans of suspenseful, complex manga like Naoki Urasawa’s Monster and The Promised Neverland. It’s been eight years since the pandemic in which a deadly sleeping sickness claimed millions of lives. After a serious injury cost him a leg (and, nearly, his life), Petty Officer Adam Garfield retires from active service in the U.S. Navy. But his plan to focus on his family and physical therapy is shattered when he receives secret word that the sleeping sickness has returned, and it’s his job to bring back the mysterious man who helped cure it by diving into people’s memories: a man known by the codename “King.”

Hey, so today KING IN LIMBO volume 1 came out, and I HIGHLY recommend it. Full disclosure: I’m the letterer on this manga. Kodansha paid me for that, but not to plug this book, or to gush about it with the editor. This is probably my favorite title I’ve ever worked on. The SF premise is very cool and the sense of place is spot on, but what makes KING IN LIMBO stand out is the multifaceted, layered main character. If you’re into grounded, character-heavy SF and want more comics for mature readers please check it out.
I just got the script and assets for the third and final volume and am so excited to see how it wraps up.

Apple Children of Aeon
3 volumes (completed. Digital only in English as of 4/19/2023)
Licensed by Kodansha
This work is set in the Showa era during the mid-1960s and early '70s. Yukinojo, the protagonist, was abandoned on the grounds of a Tokyo temple soon after his birth. He meets and marries Asahi, the daughter of an Aomori apple farmer, and after being adopted into her family, moves to the deep, snow-covered apple country of northern Japan. Far from the social turmoil of the period, Yukinojo lives a quiet family life that warms his heart and fills the void of never having known his parents. But one winter everything changes when he brings his wife, who has fallen ill, a forbidden apple. Reviving a rite that should have died out some 60 years earlier, Asahi becomes the consort of a local deity known as Obosuna-sama.
Delicately yet boldly, with richly expressive touches, this continuing series depicts villagers who hold fast to the traditional customs they have inherited and the natural environment of a bygone Japan. Note: Won a New Face Award from the 16th Japan Media Arts Festival in 2012.

I’ll be honest, I don’t dislike Minoru Tanaka at all or anything but the people who were like ‘oh my god he’s literally SO much better and smarter than Light WOW’ really baffle me. like I’m sorry but did you perhaps forget the part where his whole plan was about — very publicly, with the whole world’s attention — selling the Death Note to the wealthiest group, government or individual alive who would want to purchase a Death Note. like sure you could definitely argue that Light’s plan is worse, but even then please enlighten me as to how in the world that auction gambit seems like such an intelligent idea to you. because I really sincerely doubt so. we literally saw what and who bought it and almost gained ownership of it in canon, if not for the rule change (which absolutely wasn’t within the expectations of Minoru), and I fail to see how that was going to turn out well. if it was still a smarter plan than Light’s one that would be because Light’s new world plan was atrocious beyond compare (EDIT: this is debatable btw, Minoru's plan is arguably potentially worse depending on how you look at it), not because Minoru’s plan was the best thing since sliced bread or even remotely well thought out in regards to its potential ramifications
