“Jesus, Witch, what’s gotten into you?”
“Nothing,” the way (y/n) almost took off Percy’s head with her sword said otherwise.
Standing back up once the danger had subsided, Percy was still for a moment. His own sword blade-down sat in the grass, its position similar to that of a shorter walking stick. His head tilted in a way that let (y/n) know he was deep in thought, most likely analyzing her stiff posture. She quickly dropped her raised shoulders, but that only made his eyes narrow even further.
“Can we just keep training?” she asked, feeling the tightness in her chest begin to creep into her throat, “I almost got you with that move.”
“No you didn’t,” Percy wasn’t even trying to be funny. (y/n)’s swing had only thrown him off because he wasn’t prepared to actually have to defend himself. In a real battle, he knew exactly how to handle a move like that, but he didn’t want to hurt her during their training, “I’m serious, (y/n), what’s going on with you?”
“Nothing. Drop it,” her shoulders were halfway to her chin again, but Percy decided to go with it.
He brought his sword up once more, holding eye contact, “Okay. Then let’s go again.”
So they did. (y/n)’s jagged, almost wild sword motions seemed especially odd next to Percy’s smooth, controlled swings. Every time she tried to attack, he blocked it with enough ease to irritate her. Any time he made a slight attempt to do the same, she was quick to hit his sword down.
To anyone around them, as well as the two in battle, the situation was embarrassingly obvious. (y/n) didn’t know what she was doing, and Percy, the best swordsman at camp, was going easy on her.
No longer than a minute later, (y/n)’s arms stopped moving, and Percy, surprised at the sudden switch up, tripped over himself in order to prevent his sword from slicing down her abdomen. (y/n) dropped her sword in the dirt, turning her back on Percy and walking away.
Percy was very familiar with the feeling of confusion. After a year of being involved with Camp Half-Blood, he had accepted the fact that he didn’t know a lot of things, especially in the world of Greek mythology.
However, this wasn’t a Greek mythology related issue. At least, he didn’t think it was.
The sound of laughter earned his attention, and he turned his head to find a group of campers watching (y/n) stomp off the field. Their various swords and daggers let Percy know they were training too, but he still frowned. The way they were snickering to each other, their eyes filled with humor at the sight of (y/n)’s frustration, it was something Percy was also familiar with.
He shot a quick glance at the direction (y/n) went, before approaching the group. Other than his tense jaw, he seemed perfectly casual.
“Hey,” he greeted, unable to keep the anger out of his voice, “What’s so funny?”
He was met with wide eyes. The group consisted of five campers from about four different cabins. He didn’t know any of their names, and frankly he had never seen any of them around before. But the neon orange t-shirts that three out of the five group members wore confirmed their residency.
“Nothing!” The girl with short pink hair and wide blue eyes, who Percy decided was the ringleader, sounded surprised. She exchanged a wide-eyed look of panic with the brunette girl and blond boy by her sides that made Percy’s eyes narrow.
“Then what the hell are you laughing at?” At first he had been worried that he was overreacting, but after watching the guilty looks that appeared on their faces as he confronted them, his suspicions were confirmed.
“We just-“ the brunet guy on the end stopped after the blonde girl shoved her elbow into his side. He gently shoulder checked her before continuing, “We just thought it was funny how the Wicked Witch walks around camp all high and mighty but can’t even use a sword.”
Percy stepped forward, his jaw clenching so hard he didn’t notice the way the four other campers stepped away from him, with the exception of the brown haired doofus who continued talking, “What did you just call her?”
“Wes, shut up,” the blonde girl whispered frantically.
“The Wicked Witch?” the guy, Wes, smirked, choosing to ignore his friend. His tone was far too casual for the threat that stood before him, “You get it? Because she’s evil, just like that daughter of Hecate from-“
“You shut your goddamn mouth,” with a flick of his wrist, Percy sent the guy’s sword clattering to the ground. He held up his own, pressing the tip of the blade into Wes’ chest, and the dark haired boy’s smirk faltered as he looked up at Percy’s furious eyes, “I don’t want to hear about you talking to or about (y/n) ever again. You got it?”
“Yeah, man, chill,” Wes’ eyes widened as Percy applied more pressure to his chest, “I got it. It was just a joke-“
“No more joking,” Percy let the sword fall to his side, stopping for a moment to pick up Wes’ sword from the ground. It was well balanced, and had a nice blade. He turned his attention to Wes’ four other friends, who eyed him nervously, “That goes for you all as well.”
All he received was a few frantic nods.
His hard green eyes scanned over the faces of the five individuals before him, taking a few seconds to memorize each of their faces. Then he walked away, following the path he recalled (y/n) had taken. He chose to ignore the objections of Wes, whose sword he had just stolen.
It didn’t take him long to find (y/n), he knew where she would be.
There was a specific part of the Camp’s woods that people avoided, and that was because it was populated with yew trees. Yew trees were extremely poisonous to the touch to everyone, except apparently for children of Hecate. It made a bit of sense, since the yew tree was sacred to the goddess.
Whenever (y/n) needed a break from the other campers, she came to this part of the woods. There was a particularly large tree that she liked to make herself comfortable in the trunk, since the roots allowed for her to lean against as she pleased.
“Hey, Witch,” he kept his voice soft once he found her, exactly where he knew he would. He would have been there faster, but he had to take care not to accidentally brush up against any of the other trees in the forest.
He lingered a bit behind her, a way to let her know that he would leave if she didn’t want him there. The anticipation buzzed in his skin, his eyes trained in the back of her head.
“It’s not that I care what they think,” she started, and Percy ignored the way her voice cracked in the beginning as he sat down across from her, “I just… It didn’t help. I know I suck at sword fighting but I didn’t need them mocking me.”
She was sitting in a way so that her arms wrapped around her knees and her chin rested on her arms. Her eyes were fixed at a point somewhere in the ground behind Percy, and the look on her face was something between sadness and embarrassment.
“How long have they been doing that?” He asked, choosing his words carefully.
She shrugged in response, almost as if she didn’t want to think about it too much, “I dunno. How long haven’t they been doing it?”
“(y/n), this isn’t funny. Those guys are assholes. Why didn’t you tell me?” Percy did his best to keep his voice steady but he could still hear his anger leaking through.
(y/n) finally met his eyes, and she seemed almost curious.
“It’s not like they’re the only ones who do that,” Percy felt his heart drop at her casual tone, “And why do you care so much? You’re barely around anymore.”
He opened his mouth to respond, before closing it. She was right. He only spent summers at Camp, and he had just gotten back from his illegal quest to the Sea of Monsters. But she had gone with him?
Now that he thought about it, this did explain the comments that Clarisse had made upon their arrival, and why (y/n) had flinched every time the daughter of Ares had said her quest had been cursed.
“Yeah,” (y/n) said in response to the look of sad realization that had morphed into his face, “Not everyone can be the Golden Hero of the Prophecy, or whatever it is they call you. Someone has to be the scapegoat.”
“But that someone doesn’t have to be you-“
“It already is,” (y/n) shook her head in frustration, her eyes wandering towards the other yew trees, “It has been for a while now. I don’t need you to try and save me, Percy. You can’t solve all of my problems. Just accept that.”
Percy felt his jaw go slack. Something about her words, her tone, let him know this was more than a couple bullies at the training center. He wasn’t exactly sure what else she was referring to, and he knew she wouldn’t tell him.
“You’re right, I’m sorry,” he said, and (y/n) frowned at the look of pity that he had, “I can't fix it, but I am here for you. If you need to talk, or anything. I’m here. I’ll always be here for you.”
(y/n) felt her stomach drop. She tried swallowing the nausea that had begun to overwhelm her, but there was something about the way Percy was looking at her. Like he meant what he said. She knew he did, and that made the whole thing even worse.
“I know.”

Friendly reminder that Nico Di Angelo as a child, loved pirates and Greek mythology.
Imagine a 10 year old Nico getting excited that the Greek gods exist, then finding out that he gets to learn how to sword fight just like pirates do. (He was so excited he ended up cutting his leg resulting in a scar)
And now imagine all that excitement disappear when he learns that he can never show his big sister what he learnt.

Thinkin about Bianca di Angelo. She was just a pre-teen girl who was forced to be a mother. Was she attracted to death because it brought her closer to her father? What would she have become with freedom and time? Would she have chosen the Hunters if she’d had a chance at a normal pre-teen life? Maybe she just wanted to be a girl forever because she already missed her chance. 12 year olds shouldn’t be mothers.

The fact that Bianca di Angelo will only ever be remembered as Nico's sister, and how her character and her death was all created just to further Nico's character and arc, is just so tragic. Because the small fraction of life that we did see was her trying to escape all that. It was her trying to be more than just Nico's sister. Trying to be more than the person who takes care of Nico, trying to have her own life instead of being his caretaker, and then she immediately died. And we talk about her but only in the way she affected Nico. Even when Percy remembers her it's less about her and more about how Nico reacted when he told him that she was dead.
In life and in death Bianca tried desperately to stop her life from revolving around Nico. And then after her death for a long time everything Nico did revolved around Bianca. Morning her death, trying to exact revenge for her, trying to bring her back. Nico couldn't let go of Bianca.
On the other hand Bianca's most memorable decisions were all permanent attempts to solidify her independence. First joining the huntresses of Artemis and then choosing reincarnation. She loved her brother but she was forced to be essentially his mother when she was still a child. She wanted a chance of life without that responsibility. She wanted the chance to live for herself but she knew she would never get that and have Nico in her life at the same time.
Bianca di Angelo was her own person but she will never be remembered for that.

I don't care about Nico and Bianca's casting. I care about watching Thalia get so angry at Bianca for leaving her little brother when she never got a second chance with her own. I care about the look on her face when Percy tells her that Bianca is joining the hunters. I care about her looking over the San Francisco skyline and coming to terms with the fact that her not-so-little sister doesn't need her anymore, and she will never see her little brother again, even though he is only a few miles away. I care about those being the things that convince her to join the Hunt. I care about her seeing Jason in Nico's eyes.
#Actually I do care about Nico and Bianca's casting#as long as the actors are treated with respect#But I just said that for dramatic effect#Thalia Grace#nico di angelo#bianca di angelo#jason grace#annabeth chase#Percy Jackson#pjo#percy jackon and the olympians#percy jackson and the olympians#percy jackson tv series#The Titans Curse#The Hunters of Artemis#Hunters of Artemis#grace siblings#Jason and Thalia Grace#New Rome#TTC#percy jackson and the titans curse#pjo tv show

headcanon!!
percy was looking for bianca for 14 hrs straight. everyone else gave up looking for here after around 3-ish hrs. they had to physically drag percy away from the wreck. when they finally did manage to get percy away from the wreck he passed out 30 seconds later. percys hands were also completely shredded and ripped. you could see the bones and muscles. there was blood all over them. he had bandages on his hands for at least three months afterwards. he does not remember any of this. he remembers looking for bianca longer than the others and he remembers his hands getting at least a bit injured. he does not know the extremes of either. his hand is covered in scars and stitches because of this.
zoe’s the one who stitched him up.

i just know if sally jackson was in charge of camp half blood and not chiron, nico’s entire character arc over the 4th book wouldn’t exist because sally jackson would not be so fucking STUPID as to make a 14 year old tell a ten year old his sister is dead.

this scene is so underrated. he claimed a prophecy foretelling his death so that nico wouldn't die. a prophecy that thalia knowingly passed onto him mere pages before (for a good reason, yes).
this scene is the absolute pinnacle of his character. he just watched so many failures of their world. nico losing his sister and being left alone. luke hurting everyone he loved because of the gods' terrible treatment. zoë's death at her father's hand. everything that happened to bianca. he watched all of this knowing how wrong it was and said to the girl who was left by everyone who was supposed to care about her, "no. i will not let this happen again unless i am the last one this happens to," and then spent the next year and a half expecting to die on his 16th birthday. wtf.
