I FUCKING LOVE THE SONG OF ROLLAND#song of roland#clay does art#so. okay bear with me#the song of Roland / chanson de rollanz was an epic poem written in the 11th century about the real battle of Roncevaux Pass in#the 8th century.#so 11th c ? we are smack in those middle ages#and its old copies were recorded as illuminated manuscripts#yet! it is technically an epic!! its an epic poem!!!! I don’t believe there were many written between Roland and the Aeneid (19 BCE)#in the west?#so like . WILD COMEBACK!!#this comic (?) is me playing with this idea of both muddling and clarifying the reality (8th c. real battle. he died.)#with the context of the poem (11th c. chivalric code. this was the hamilton of the time I must assume)#the translation from old french (flows better in modern English than it does in modern french apparently?)#and me. making it a scrolling comic. inspiration from real armor of the 8th century#although 11th c manuscripts armor them like they’re contemporary#I did hand lettering! as a manuscript would be!!#but my composition is wildly different than theirs#I could go on ! but I shant. ty for reading#no id#< I do not. know how . HAPPY 16TH BIRTHDAY!!! To this elderly bapy boye!!! he...!!!
#cats#ghhbbb this is the first time I've genuinely considered tumblr blazing a post lol but no.. i shant.. I feel too weird putting financial#information into tumblr or whatever unless I made like a seperate bank account or something not associated with anyhting else lol#but I gave it serious contemplation which is really sayng something (the evil magical spell that all cats cast over u by their perfection)#ANYWAY.................... old man!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!#it's technically like march 8th but I did his party a little early. I have other pictures to post later maybe too..hrmm#The '1' candle is actually a '4' candle with the side part cut off because they didn't have any 1s#I went all out (like under $15 still lol) and got new birthday decorations for him instead of using the same old#ones from the past like 5 birthdays that I've done for the cats lol..#His theme was rainbows mostly in as light of colors as I could find#The legal age to drive a car in the US is 16 so.... honk honk beep beep.. I shall go out and buy him the most expensive car on the market#as soon as March 8th comes. then he can run little errands (probably mostly getting kibbles or chicken somewhere)#stealing the rotisserie chickens from walmart or something lol#AND they would let him have them. He would drive up and walk inside and they'd call the manager to come over#and they would be so moved by his presence and his big goofy stare that they would just be like..... okey.. have all the chicken in the#entire store. Actually. have the store. it's yours now. And This would continue all the way up the chain until he was handed#the entire walmart company. And every other company. a boy who owns everything. probably wouldnt use it for evil. he'd just abolish#everything and then focus on eating chickens.. ........ chibken son...

My comic is so pretty...
The hiatus is letting me take a little extra time on these episodes, and I'm definitely putting it to good use!!!
#almost done with my 8th episode... which will give me. two weeks. of buffer...#id really like at LEAST a month... but to be more comfortable id like two#which means 2-6 more episodes before I come back!#I've got about 7 weeks so its possible. but i do still have to finish book 4#so much to do ..........#I decided for my next comic im doing 3 updates a month.#having 10 days instead of 7 to make an episode is such a huge huge huge difference...#difference in quality and in my health!#anyways the comic is really pretty im really happy with the work im doing rn#the environments especially. im getting to spend a nice amount of time on them and theyre turning out so nicely#its nice to be able to write with a lot of different environments and not have to redo panels when I get to them cause of time#cause every time theres a wild angle? you need a new background...#so sometimes. often actually. there just isnt the time to make the backgrounds for those and i have to make them more flat...#which is fine. it doesnt really affect anything narratively. but. idk. it's kinda sad right?#anyways yeah! 10 days will be much better.#36 episodes a year is about what ive been uploading with my hiatuses on the weekly schedule anyways!#so might as well cut out that super stressful middleman and just commit to that#52 a year is just such a huge difference and i have to accept its not possible to me#i will hurt myself trying to do that. and i want to make comics my whole life!#so i cant push myself that hard now and sacrifice my future. we're gonna go slower after this...#anyways yeah cant wait to come back but also time. if I could get an extra week like a secret one just for me#where theres no chores no nothin just me and my work#thatd be great! so go ahead and do what you gotta do to give me a little pocket dimension#me: ugh i want to return right now...#the more logical me: NO we need the time to finish everything!!!!!! watched Grease the other night with my buddy and. well. obviously i Had To
#this was a good warm up i think. kinda low quality cause its Small and Not Much Effort Went Into It#but i think the fuzziness adds to the charm. or something like that#ive always loved greasers as a concept and general Thing#anyway now im Thinking about what everyone's 'roles' would be#i think the little greaser group would be wally / sally / barnaby#except theyre the most unconventional greasers ever#sally is all bark and no bite. barnaby is no bark and no bite. wally is just there to look pretty#i think theyd fold frank into the group eventually due to Witnessing His Knack For Violence#i can picture them mostly hanging around a diner#where they all share the single milkshake they can collectively afford#scribble garnish#welcome home#in middle school i absolutely adored the outsiders#we even did a thing for the class where we were assigned 'greaser' or 'soc' and i was So Fucking Delighted to get greaser#assigned greaser by 8th grade english class#got to dress up and everything. i had a blast. so gender.#during that time i would even sit there in class thinking 'i was born in the wrong generation'. delusional? yes#one of my ocs is even a fuckin. universe-hopping assassin greaser#their vibe.... 50s punk...#loved the movie btw. made next to no sense. very charming

god i want. an au where it dosn't work. where it's just arr g'raha who's woken up, and he doesn't have all these memories and all these people keep looking at him like they're mourning someone. the world has changed and time has changed and all the people he knows have changed, but he hasn't changed, he was just sleeping, just sleeping, and the world nearly ended several times and apparently he helped prevent yet another end but he has no memory of this. they want him to join the scions. he does not know these people. (he barely knows the warrior of light, now, but did he ever truly know them in the first place?) his little sister is alive and well. she looks at him like a ghost. she's changed, and she's older than him now. he acts bratty and loud and brash to cover up the fact that he does not know anything it seems, and he is tired but he was sleeping for so long, so how could he be tired?
he doesn't know these people. they seem to know him. he wonders if he'd killed someone, when it was him and not that exarch who woke up. he wonders if it should have been him who was "killed" in that way, if it is him that lives and not that man who had known and become friends with all these figures from legend. he wonders if he'll always be fated to be a historian one step back from everything, because he simply cannot be a hero.
