I did another sprint!! And I made sure the ending ties everything together!! Everybody lives together; everybody else is just absent in this lil oneshot. ssshhh dw they're alive and well. Isabeau and Siffrin, after gathering firewood, huddle under some blankets together to get warmer. ----

A chilling winter breeze cuts through Siffrin as he and Isabeau brought in the firewood for their new home. Siffrin sighed with relief, peeling off the layers of the thick outdoor clothing he put on over his normal wear, as his cloak was still drying in the laundry room.

Isabeau added fresh wood to the fireplace, stroking the flames to be even bigger with a poker.

"There we go," Isabeau smiled. "This should last us a good while."

He turned to Siffrin, who was eagerly rubbing his hands and placing them within the vicinity of the now roaring fireplace. "You okay?"

"Yeah!" Siffrin nodded. "I'm good. Just…cold. I've never been cold like that without my trusty cloak."

Isabeau chuckled, recalling that Siffrin spilled soup over it yesterday. They hated parting with their cloak, but it had to be washed. Thankfully, washing could be done indoors with utmost care.

"I have an idea," Isabeau spoke up, "How about we get our blankets from our room and huddle underneath of them?"

He gestured to the couch just a couple feet away from the fireplace. It was a secondhand purchase, but still sturdy.

Siffrin nodded, and the two of them grabbed as many blankets as they could carry. The blankets varied from thick to fluffy. Isabeau propped up the blankets onto the couch, and Siffrin dove in under them.

"Are we building a fort?" They asked.

"Nope. No fort." Isabeau chuckled, following Siffrin inside.

"What do we do, exactly?"

"Here," Isabeau pulled Siffrin closer, making them squeak with surprise. "It's warm like this, right?"

Siffrin blushed heavily, it was loads warmer. He leaned against him, head resting on his chest.

"Yeah. This is nice." Siffrin smiled. "We're not going to catch on fire, are we?"

"Pfff, no. Our blankets are a safe distance away from the fireplace. We're safe."

Siffrin closed his eyes, listening to Isabeau's heartbeat. Such a soothing sound. It didn't take long for him to fall asleep, surrounded by the warmth of the fireplace, Isabeau's body heat, and their shared love for each other.

Isabeau didn't mind. He stood still, avoiding making any sudden movements. As Siffrin snoozed, Isabeau ran his fingers through their soft hair.

Home is where the heart is, after all!

Watching Star Wars in chronological order is so funny.

Obi-Wan Kenobi really took one look at R2D2 in the middle of the desert and said “No, Luke, I’ve never seen this fucking droid in my life. Looks like a real bitch though. Not that I’d know. This is my first time meeting the asshole.”

No one in that whole franchise was Gatekeep-Gasslight-Girlbossing quite like “Ben” Kenobi, regular human-man.

honestly making three year timejumps between acts was the smartest decision character development-wise dragon age ever pulled. i don't think da2 has more character interactions/romance content than other games but i think the main reason kirkwall squad's dynamics and relationships with hawke and each other feel so fleshed out and real to me is that the game implies these people were spending time together during literal years. the plot itself moves very quickly but its structure creates an impression that the characters were still given enough time to breathe. like yeah anders' dramatic love confessions would feel hilariously out of pocket if it happened like a week after he met hawke but the guy was pining for a very long time. hawke's reunions with their sibling (whose personality also drastically changes in this time period) would fall flat if they were separated for like a month but they haven't seen each other in years. and i think da2 also conveys the passage of time nicely. character models might not change (would have been a nice touch tho but this game was made in less than a year) but they themselves change due to their circumstances that get progressively worse and this is also the reason why their questlines don't feel rushed. the quests are connected but the Next Big Thing doesn't happen the second you finish the previous quest. it takes time for danarius to get to fenris. it takes time for sundermount demon to ruin merrill's relationships with her clan and her keeper. and it takes time for the qunari and mage/templar conflicts to reach their breaking points and every companion is inevitably affected by it and it wouldn't hit half as hard if all these events happened in a year or so. yeah this is the shortest dragon age game but to me it feels the longest in the best way. i got to spend almost a decade with these guys watching their lives slowly and inevitably fall apart and it successfully devastated me

now that natlan is out it's tsaritsa yearning hours again because i am one nation closer to either being horribly disappointed or foaming at the mouth!

creator!reader w a little side of conflicted tsaritsa is such good food I can't not yap about it. a woman who has dedicated so much of her life to severing herself from "love" of all kinds and succeeding and. just being so confident that when she meets you she's bitter and angry and mean. because she can't stand you. she isn't supposed to love yet you worm your way into her heart anyway and you don't even know it.

especially in smth like an imposter au. she tells herself your just a tool for her to use but your treated like the Divine you really are, pampered and spoiled every step. tells herself it means nothing when she indulges you – let's you hold her hand in private, eventually let's you move aside the veil, just a little.

and she hates it. hates how easy it is to let you break down the ice she's built up for years.

all you do is smile and she feels like she can't breathe. because despite how violently she rejects love in all aspects, it always bleeds through eventually. she despises it but the way you brush your thumbs over her cheeks makes her bitter and warm and it infuriates her to no end.

she hates you and she loves you and she can't stand you and if you were ever taken from her she'd destroy every inch of teyvat if she had to go get you back.

and ironically enough I think she'd also be the one to initiate any first kiss. maybe she's still trying to convince herself it's just a fluke and itll make her realize it meant nothing, it means nothing. desperate to fix whatever you've done to her and instead it just makes it worse.

a horrible mess of a woman who gave up on love just to be confronted with it when she finally accepted it's absence.

I will admit I'm a little salty that people, in an effort to prove that there is no good dialogue in Veilguard at all, keep comparing mission exposition to the high point narrative set pieces of prior games. I agree that some of the writing related to plot mechanics and mission exposition in Veilguard is a little too utilitarian, but that doesn't mean none of the dialogue is good or that prior games didn't also sometimes have this issue here and there.

I also generally dislike when people put the bar for good writing — and all writing too, not even just dialogue writing, ALL writing — at mic-drop sentences that still sound good completely divorced from context, because that really just reduces "good writing" down to like fake-deep philosophizing or witty quips exclusively. sometimes, a really good bit of dialogue sounds like a completely normal sentence out of context.

Anyway, I sincerely recommend reading A Dark Among the Lights by LuckyLectio on AO3. It's a wonderful story in which after a long and arduous journey, our snarky protagonist has finally gotten a hug. Two of them, even!
