THE NIGHT WE MET âł NOW ON AO3
I absolutely loved getting to work with @consultingpachaâ for the first year of @fellowshipoftheficsââ The Hobbit: An Unexpected Collaboration event! Pacha was such a great partner and listened to my yelling, as well as brought many great ideas to the table!! Iâd love to work with her again one day, and I hope you like this little story we managed to tie together! Be sure to give her artwork some love and attention, which you can find â here!
On a night when The Green Dragon Inn is out of vacancy, Bilbo Baggins opens up his home to a trio of displaced and rain-soaked dwarves. The two children of the bunch are happy to have a temporary home away from the rain, but their uncle, Thorin, sees it only as a debt to be repaid.
Rating: General Audiences Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply Relationship(s): Bilbo Baggins/Thorin Oakenshield Characters: Bilbo Baggins, Thorin Oakenshield, Fili, Kili, Thorinâs Company, Original Hobbit Character(s), etc.
âBag End has a few rooms that are unused!â Bilbo practically shouted, earning an uncomfortable bout of silence within the entire main room of the pub, and three sets of dwarven eyes staring at him in both shock and confusion. âThat is to sayâŚsince the Green Dragon seems to be out of vacancyâŚif youâre looking for a place to stay, Iâd happily give you the roomsââ âIâm not looking for a handout.â The dwarf practically growled before a tiny tug came to the bottom of his tunic. Those big blue eyes of Filiâs staring back at him. â...But under these particular circumstances, my hands are a bit tied. How much?â âIf youâre unwilling to take my handout as you call it, how about you just pay me what you think is fair?â Bilbo offered with a small shrug, offering a small smile to try and soothe the frayed nerves of the little ones that kept flickering their eyes between the adults. âThereâs plenty of food, warm blankets, and a bathtub you can use.â âThat wonât be necessaryââ âThe little ones look chilled to the bone. Think of their cold little toes in those boots! Some hot water and bubbles will do them some good and ensure their feet remain intact.â âBubbles?! For my toes?!â Fili cried out in excitement as he bounced from latching to his guardianâs leg towards the stranger. âMhm, lots of bubbles, and theyâre lavender scented. Youâll smell just like a field of flowers,â Bilbo teased, his heart warming at the idea of his good deed, but the look he was fixed with by the rather exhausted-looking dwarf before him was telling. He didnât like this, but as terrible as it was to admit, Bilbo knew he had no other choice, and was glad for that. âIâmâŚterribly sorry, I forgot to introduce myself first before throwing my home open up to you. Rather strange, isnât it? Bilbo Baggins, of Bag End.â Jutting his hand out for a proper shake, it took the dwarf a few moments to so much as move. âThorin.â

Bottled Up
A/n: Aaand itâs here! :DDD I couldnât be happier.Â
The absolutely stunning art was brought to life by @mysandwichranawayâ Applause, guys, please - I will never forget how he saved the day and stepped up to collaborate with me, when I was absolutely discouraged. Thank you, my friend, youâre gorgeous!
Long story short, hereâs our piece for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Collaboration 2022 project, that united so many talented, kind and creative people. @fellowshipoftheficsâ, you, guys, rock.Â
Our prompt was âMusical Bards and Their Heroic Musesâ.Â
@i-did-not-mean-toâ You know, the night before I wrote it I dreamed I was writing it with you for 3-4 hours straight. So you can totally consider yourself a co-author and an inspiration
Also tagging as requested - @mismaeve (a new Lindir, my love!!!), @glassgulls @oenothera5 @noldorinpainter @otakumultimuse-hiddlewhore @eunoiaastralwingsâ @a-contemplation-upon-flowersâ (may be, you will enjoy it)
Forgive me, if I forgot anyone. Ok, I shut up.
Bottled Up
âSpin that baby, laddie!â Bofur cheered happily. Â
âI donât want to kiss you,â Kili growled, pushing the bottle with one finger only, âAny of you, on that matter.â
âWhy are you playing this, then?â
âThereâs a lady among us,â reminded Kili with a wink.
You laughed, just happy to relax and leave the troubles you all had to live through in the back of your mind, if only for a while.
Of course, the refined abode of the Elves was no place to play such childish games, but the cheer of the Company was contagious, and you let yourself get unleashed for once. Spin the bottle seemed just the right thing to teach them. You had to admit it was hilarious, the whole thing in general and the way each of them demonstrated the involvement in the process so peculiarly.
Dwalin kissed his loyal kin and fellows with the face he must have been saving up for the fiercest of battles, the ever-enthusiastic Fili was as enthusiastic as ever and Ori just a bit less bewildered than you had predicted.
The ones that had the luck to kiss you were rewarded with handclaps and sighs of envy. Â Â
The attendant Elves were judging you hard, which only added zest to the already spicy pastime. Â
The day was obviously a success.
Once again congratulating yourself on a lucky idea, you stretched your neck and took at the waist of the bottle resolutely.
âLet it be me,â prayed Fili, whose luck with you had been failing him this afternoon.
It wasnât. Neither was it anyone else. The bottle made two lazy spins and stopped, pointing between Ori and DoriâŚRight at the Elf who had been the first to greet you in Rivendell and was stepping on the Companyâs heels ever since. Heâd been watching the game, too, a sour expression not leaving his face for a moment.
âGo kiss him,â Kili suggested, before you could replay your go.
The Dwarves perked up, anticipating a good laugh.
âKiss the boy!â
âGo for it, buttercup!â
âKiss him, kiss him, kiss him,â they chanted as one. You were looking around desperately in search of at least one disapproving grimace â but no. It was impossible to thrust in a word, let alone make them change their minds.
Caught up in your own game, you stood up to approach the one called Lindir in uncertain steps.
The closer you were getting, the less life and blood were remaining in his face. You had no idea why he didnât move back â the alley behind him was clear, yet he opted out of escaping for a reason inconceivable to you.
Instead, he simply froze still, looking at you in what seemed to be rather close to panic.
You stood on your tiptoes and shut your eyes not to see what a fool you were about to present of yourself. Â
âKiss him!â
You didnât know why you failed to make it a peck on the cheek or forehead. May be, it was the heady Elvish wine youâd tried for the first time this evening, or the overly heated encouragement of the Company, but, instead of taking it easy, you went for the honest to Eru mouth-to-mouth.
The Elfâs lips were surprisingly smooth and coolish, the banal word âsilkyâ describing them best of all. He gave a start, but didnât pull away as you cupped his face with the last surge of boldness and kissed him deeper and more softly.
It felt good, almost like the real thing, despite the lack of response on his part.
At an instant you had an almost-but-not a sensation that some reluctant sort of a reaction was still there, but you couldnât truly tell. And surely, it would be strange to expect him just stand there like one of those prim statues, which surrounded you at each step in here.
Having counted to ten, you called it a kiss and stopped to retreat to the safety of the Companyâs circle.
There was a very pronounced response to your ministrations, after all.
Your victimâs face was flaming, and so were his eyes. He reeled, then stammered something you didnât understand. The Dwarves were laughing without mercy, and some of the Elves followed the example, but you were probably the only one who paid attention to it. Lindir didnât look like he cared. As shocked, he turned on his heels and almost fled the scene, leaving you and his duties behind.
âThere goes the courage of the Elves,â Bofur concluded out loud and reached for the bottle for the hundredth time since morning.
âSpin that baby!â
All it took was one single mental image of your dragging the thing on your back all the way to the Lonely Mountain, with no to little chance to ever put it in good use.
Alas, a tin ear was the rudest of understatements in your case.
You snorted without any backthought and was ashamed of the sound immediately, as your eyes met his.
âAm I being a figure of fun?â
âNot you,â you tried to sound placating. It wasnât each day you experienced a cultural revelation in such a brutal way, âAnd still, Iâm sorry, I canât take it.â
He had found you lazying around in the gardens, your head more than a little heavy with the consequences of yesterdayâs overindulgence in cheer and drinking. In the good news, your usual case of a nosebleed had happened minutes before that. Youâd just barely managed to wash the last spots off your face and shirt in the nearest fancy fountain, when the one still called Lindir stumbled upon you, a lute in his hand.
Had heâd found you a moment earlier, it would have definitely added only more awkwardness to what was enfolding before your eyes now.
âI canât let you not,â stated he very slowly, as though his opinion of your comprehension skills was less than poor.
You couldnât say you blamed him for that.
âLet me have this straight,â your temples were splintering with ache, âI have to take this with me, because I happened to be your first kiss?â
The thing he did with his shoulders reminded you of an agonal twitch. His lips stretched into a lopsided line for a moment, and you concluded he was enjoying this one-on-one as little as you were. And that was really not a lot.
âBy the ways of my people, yes.â
âAnd this ⌠instrument is your most precious possession, that is now mine? Because I happened to be your first kiss?â
âWhat do you do, when your first kiss comes?â
Just as always, you spoke quicker than you thought.
âPop a foot.â
Lindirâs brows went up, but, as your luck had it, he obviously interpreted your answer as another manifestation of how small a brain you had.
âAm I being a figure of fun?â repeated he patiently.
âNo, Iâm sorry.â
Without further words, he held the lute out for you yet again. And yet again you couldnât imagine yourself taking it.
The pause was a lengthy one, so dragged-out you had to wonder whether his arm was getting tired of holding the weight of this âprecious giftâ you had earned through such a little effort.
âI canât,â you shook your head again.
âPlease,â a note of desperation slipped into his voice.
He was travelling from anger to misunderstanding and spiraling farther into unhappiness, that you couldnât fully comprehend, in a matter of seconds.
âAre you a minstrel?â you asked him at last.
The lute came down.
âIsnât it obvious?â reciprocated he with a merriless smile.
âWrite me a ballad.â
You didnât doubt you would feel bad about this new brainchild of yours, too. But you had to save yourself out of the honour and him â out of the misery.
âI beg your pardon?â
âWhen this journey ends, I want to look back and know I did well,â the inflow of inspiration made you unusually eloquent, âThat I was a hero. I donât need a lute, what good can I get out of it? I want something I can remember, not break one day and never regret it. You wouldnât wish I did that, would you?â
The deep dark eyes were never off you. This Lindir guy wasnât the one to hand out his approvals easily, you thought, when another handful of minutes had passed without a word from him.
âI wouldnât,â agreed he finally.
âThen write me something about how brave I can be. What deeds I can do, if thereâs a chance. What hardships I can deal with. And Iâll say you paid for that ki-.â
âWhat do you know of pigeon mail?â he interrupted you suddenly, in the most business-like kind of voice.
âBut how-â
The Elf allowed himself a smile, showing only too clear that your standing somewhere between a mindless rubble and a bit more mindful slug wasnât changing for the better with him.
âHow do I sing something I have no knowledge of?â
And just may be, he wasnât that wrong on your part. Â Â
âA deal, then?â you put out your hand for him to seal the agreement. Much to your surprise, he didnât hesitate to accept it, wrapping his long fingers around yours politely, if a bit stiffly.
And thatâs when the awkwardness returned.
You were quite ready to have your limb to yourself again, yet he had decided otherwise.
âNoble Y/N?â
Your fingers were feeling the pressure that his ones were giving them quite acutely.
âYes, my Minstrel?â you decided not to dwell on it, in hopes that the light tone will repair this change to his manner. Â
âDid youâŚâ he stumbled through the question, which you somehow realized was not a common occurrence with him, âDid you do it on purpose?â
âDid what?â
You hoped you sounded surprised enough. Just like you didnât guess the answer on your own and didnât wish he had never asked that.
âSpun that bottleâŚthat way.â
It was safer to keep on playing dumb. He was surely able to forget that kiss. Would he forget other advances you had no intention to offer him was quite another question.
âWhy would I?â
His hand went loose around yours.
âTrue,â uttered he with a nod, âI thank you then. For the kiss. And your generosity. And I promise to honour our deal.â
âI have no doubts you will.â
You were becoming a smooth liar.  Â
 My dear Minstrel,
I fear I thought too much of âŚI wish I hadnât been that presumptuous⌠I canât recount the events of this day inâŚI saw them, Lindir. The stone giants. They were murdering each other right before our eyes. It was a life-alteringâŚan experience, that IâŚ
Scared, my dear Minstrel,
But Iâm still here.
Yours,
Y/N
My dear Muse,
Do not test your skill and my patience withâŚ
Do you not think me able to read a simpleâŚ
Iâll pray to the Valar to keep you safe. Or what my ballad will be worth of otherwise?
Your faithful Minstrel.
My dear Minstrel,
I have one word for you. Goblins. Iâd love to say my heart was not in my feet, but it was.
You could describe it better, if you were me, Lindir.
But I wish youâll never have to be in my place.
Yours,
Me
My Muse,
I wish you were not yourself, either. I wish you were not there where you are.
No song is worth it.
Lindir.
My Minstrel,
The castle is under siege. I donât know how it ends. I just know that it will.
Do I need to say that word? Scared?
I donât. I am not scared.
I didnât mean to kiss you. But it was not bad.
Your-
A heavy drop of blood rolled down your lips and splashed against the scrap of paper. Your last one. As the things were rushing now, you couldnât even ask Ori for a replacement.
Who even cared?
You tied the string around the pigeonâs neck carefully. Something told you it was the last time you did that.
âGo.â
You wanted to cower under his stare. He was not like you remembered at all. The eyes narrowed in anger, the jawline sharper and outlined more cruelly.
âSoâŚYouâre an Elf-Friend now?â
It wasnât in the least the happy reunion youâd imagined to yourself.
âYour friend, too, then, my Minstrel,â you tried to mellow his temper with a smile, but it didnât work. It couldnât have worked with the way he kept scorching you alive with this disdain.
âYouâre not,â he spat out, flinching back at your attempt to approach him.
Very well. You had your pride, too. Itâs not like you had ever needed the friendship with a handful of faceless letters on a torn piece of parchment.
âIf you wish.â
The next thing you knew were his hands, digging into your shoulders so hard that bruises were just a matter of minutes for you. He shook your whole body twice, with a furious murmur in some distorted kind of Elvish, and let go, as though touching you was the last thing he had expected himself to do.
âI thought that youâŚâ he drew in a heavy breath and went on, with about as much success, âI thoughtâŚâ
âI didnât, Lindir.â
You felt it happening too late. The world filled with the steely smell of blood. You choked on it, just as usually, and coughed, lowering your head to let it flow freely. You were not fond of what swallowing it brought on.
The red blots painted the floor with a pattern that was always new and curious.
A sigh of exasperation reached your ears.
âOh, please,â Lindir exhaled tiredly.
He had nice handkerchiefs. At least the one he had run against your mouth and chin. And his hands could be tender.
And he had gone a long way in kissing. That was the last thing you could think of clearly, when his lips brushed against yours and he returned the favour youâd done for him that sunny Rivendell afternoon a long time ago.
âNow,â being so close to him was still a novelty, but the one you couldnât but welcome, âWhereâs my ballad?â
Lindir chuckled, tightening his arms around you not to let you slip off his lap.
The golden fountains were singing their soft, honeyed songsâŚ
And you wanted one, too.
âForgive me, my dear Muse, but your writing abilities are not to be boasted of. What was I to do with your missives?â
âSo thatâs how youâre honouring our deal?â
âIâm agonizing in shame,â drawled he with no shame written on his face whatsoever.
You furrowed your brow and drew yourself up, straddling him more securely.
âYouâre forcing me to take drastic measures,â you said, a threat in your voice.
âDo,â invited he through a smile.
Unhurriedly, taking your precious time, you wrapped your fingers around the brooch at his collar and unclasped it in a soft motion.
The sound he swallowed was sharp, as you skimmed your lips against his neck and had the kiss linger to make your point clearer.
âItâs either a ballad or else,â you purred into his ear, âDonât you hate being in so much debt, my dear Minstrel?â
âOr else, my Muse,â he whispered back as carelessly, âI find Iâm less complaisant that I had thought.â

Song as old as rhyme by @i-did-not-mean-to
Ori - a popular but elusive author - is invited to a reading in a small bookshop.
He's nervous to be perceived by his audience and thankful that his best friend FĂli accompanies him, backed-up by his stern uncle Thorin.
Meanwhile, Bilbo Baggins - proud owner of the said bookshop - can't wait to surprise his employee and friend with a reading from her favourite author.
How will all these people fare when their most intimate longings and their jealously guarded secrets of loneliness and existential fear starting clashing?
Reveals are here and this is the piece, the book cover, I made for the beautiful fic my talented and kind collaborator @i-did-not-mean-to wrote for this event! We were both so happy to work together and I do believe something really special came out from this collaboration! Please go and show her love and support, it's the least she deserves!

Secrets in the Blue Mountain Apartment by SunnyRose
Rating: G
Warnings: N/A
Relationships: Dis/Vili, Thorin/Bilbo, Thorin & Frerin & Dis
Summary:Â Dis finally had a serious boyfriend she was actually excited about. The only problem is that he's friends with her older brother, and they might not have told him yet.
Companion Work to:Â
What Happened in 30C by snowmissus (soul_of_blaze)
For @fellowshipoftheficsâ The Hobbit: An Unexpected Collab. First off, Happy Anniversary everyone!! đ I canât believe AUJ is 10 years old!!𮠠@thotinshieldâ and I have worked really hard on this collab, and we hope that everyone enjoys! Honestly, it doesnât matter which one you read first, but you wonât get the full story unless you read both sides.đ
Excerpt from Chapter 2:
âSo I thought about you wanting to wait.â She began. âAnd I think you have a point.â
â Yeah?â Vili perked up.
âIâm going to ease Thorin into the idea. On Wednesday. I wonâtâŚtell him itâs you per say, but that Iâm seeing someone. Feel him out. Would that make you feel better about it?â
â Honestly? Probably.â He shrugged. â StillâŚI shouldnât have left you high and dry like that. Iâm sorry.â
Dis bit her lip to hold in the relief she felt coursing through her body. She swayed side to side.
âSoâŚyou arenât getting cold feet then?â
âAbout you? Not a chance.â
âGood. Because Iâve been thinking about what it would be like to live together.â
â Yeah.â
âYep. And just to give you a little preview.â
Dis opened up her robe, showing off the black lingerie underneath. She saw the phone slip from Viliâs hand as he stared, jaw dropped, giving her a feeling of satisfaction and a touch of smugness. However, that feeling quickly sunk into gut-plummeting horror when Thorin joined Vili at the window.

I am so excited for this fic collab to release!! @fellowshipofthefics thank yâall for organizing this event, itâs been awesome to write with fellow writers and see all the other stuff coming together!Â
What Happened in 30C
Thorin and his siblings have always maintained a certain dynamic - it has always been the three of them. Just the three of them.
And then DĂs went and messed that all up. Thorin had absolutely nothing at all to do with that. Nope.
&Â
Secrets in the Blue Mountain Apartment
Dis finally had a serious boyfriend she was actually excited about. The only problem is that he's friends with her older brother, and they might not have told him yet.
*AND* an excerpt from mine:Â
âTell Dis Iâll just be a few minutes, Vili.â Thorin said, before his friend could argue, and then Thorin moved down the stairs, past Vili, and out into the cooling evening air.
He approached the man, stuffing his hands into the pockets of his leather jacket as he came to a stop a few feet away from him. He had only made it a few feet since Thorin had spied him from the window and he wasnât even on the sidewalk yet. Thorin wondered how the man expected to even get to wherever his apartment was - unless he was lucky enough to have a ground floor apartment. Their building didnât have elevators.
And then the man stumbled, cursing colorfully.
