Last Line Tag Game

I was tagged forever ago by @amewinterswriting and @doublegoblin, so here it goes. I'll be using a snippet from The Garden That Burned - book 1, Kindling.

In hindsight, I definitely should have geared up before going head-to-head with the General of the Cosmos wars, but at least I got what I came for. I thought to myself as I looked toward the windows. It was already almost dawn, meaning I had quite a bit of work set out for me before I could arrive at the desired location at midnight with all the ingredients needed to perform my ritual under the light of two full moons. The ideal time to release the scariest Soulmancer Eden has ever known.

Tate McRae - uh oh in the Live Lounge

In 2017, I watched “The Gang Tends Bar” as it aired live, and it’s all kind of a blur but I remember three things very clearly:

Sunnyblr was POPPING. To this day, I still see TGTB posts floating around with 10k notes and they are all still so fucking good. My beautiful relics of an absolutely insane time.

Airing A Crickets Tale that very next week is probably one of the most chaotic things that was happening to Tumblr at that time. We were all like, “Mmm, thanks for whatever that was, RCG! So yummy! Now can we have another helping of repressed middle-aged gay men?” and they said, “Okay, sure! Here’s more of that but make it foreboding,” and aired “Dennis’ Double Life” the very next week after THAT.

I didn’t sleep the night TGTB aired. I was a freshman in college and I went to class the next day and just stared at nothing during my lecture because I was so blown away by it. At 18, it was one of the most formative experiences I’ve ever had with television. Raw, emotional moments have always been so much more impactful to me in comedic shows. I still consider it one of the most romantic episodes of any show I’ve ever seen. I’m 25 now, and I have never forgotten the way I felt the first time I saw this episode. My life is entirely different now from February of 2017, but my feelings about TGTB are exactly the same if not intensified.

Bonus Big Feelings:

Once you’ve watched “Dennis’ Double Life,” TGTB reads so differently—it hurts so much more. Because you know how it ends for them and you never get closure. YOU NEVER GET CLOSURE.

Something about Glenn’s hair being outstandingly hot in S12 really brought everything together, that year + heightened the pining. He would do something and we’d all be like “ok work!”

Season 16 is the closest I’ve felt to Season 12 levels of deranged. I think this makes sense since S16, stylistically, reminds me the most of classic Sunny and somehow, also, every macden fic I’ve ever read.

I never had a good reference point for whether other people outside of Sunnyblr read that episode as incredibly queer, or Just Guys Being Dudes, but most of my comms class watched this show, and we were all foaming at the mouth talking about it the next day. Everyone was like, “Oh my god! It’s getting gayer! We won!”

Reflecting on where I was in life when TGTB, and when this most recent season aired, I can’t help but wonder where we’ll all be if they touch noses. Season 24 is our seasons guys.

coming up with a fic where Tony is a ghost tethered to Gregory after GGY kills him and it's just Tony having watched Gregory be mind controlled and then free himself unknowingly and wake up with memory loss and survive a night at the pizzaplex all while Tony cant talk to him or even help him.

afterwards Tony finding out how to show himself as a ghost and Gregory seeing him and just being reminded of GGY and everything that happened and remembering it all and freaking out.

the idea of Tony being a ghost and stuck tethered to his killer + ex-friend but maybe hes actually good? and he doesn't know how to feel about it because as a detective he realizes that Gregory isnt himself while doing all of these things but also... Gregory killed him

Thanks for the tag @doublegoblin! I haven't played this one before, but there's a first time for everything :P

RULES: Share your OC's favorite color, shoe choice, season, animal, pastime

For this tag game I'm going to be using Danny from The Garden That Burned series.

Favorite color: Baby blue. It reminds him of the sky back in the days he and his best friend Freitza would cloud gaze together after class. Back before life became so complicated.

Shoe choice: Danny is a Terranian. Terranians don't wear shoes, silly. It'd mess with their tremor sensing abilities. Danny hates shoes.

Season: He prefers autum (autumn/fall) as he risks disturbing and killing less plant life while practicing his Geomancy abilities.

Animal: Danny's favorite animal is the Tauropion. A chimera between a jaguar, a scorpion, and a bull. It's known as the Kingdom of Terran's (the Terranian's kingdom of Geomancers) official animal and it is honored on their flag.

Pastime: Reading. To be more specific, studying, but Danny enjoys reading in general as well. He's at his happiest when he's learning something new.

The Good, The Bad, and The Alternative: chapter 2, an excerpt.

A pale, black-clad creature of the night stalked the half-flooded roadways of Houston's downtown, fixing any passerby with a dead-eyed glower, hand-in-hand with a sun-kissed girl way out of her league who held a crimson umbrella up over the both of them.

Rose Lalonde and Kanaya Grubbe, respectively, made their way to Rose's favorite reliquarium of esoterica- Makara's Miraculous Miracles & Sundry.

The "& Sundry" was a recent addition- or so Rose deduced. It was a result of the sea level rocketing up a dozen yards, and thus turning previously landlocked properties into beach houses. To think the world once feared an ocean rise of merely a few feet.

She sniffled from the chill the persistent drizzle brought forth.

A sharp, black fingernail ran its way down her palm in a way that made her shiver.

Yes the world was cold and gray, but her girlfriend was very soft and warm.

Kanaya gave Rose a soft smile.

"What are you thinking about?" She asked, voice threaded with that staccato cadence that sounded endearingly like a science-fiction artificial intelligence that would go on to attempt to genocide the human race in the latter half of the film.

Rose's eyebrows drifted up.

"The folly of man." Rose replied smoothly. "And how in his-"

"Or her." Kanaya interrupted.

"-pursuit of progress, innovation, and knowledge, they unknowingly doom themselves to this eternal pursuit, chasing concepts which themselves are defined by evolution, and in the flush of the fowl, the wetland is diminished."

"I had a feeling that most of the world would have come around to cooperating against climate change, had the meteors not struck." Kanaya replied, flawlessly.

The way her partner always seemed able to read her mind despite the walls of pseudo-intellectual chaff Rose habitually produced never ceased to awe her.

i have gone entire years of my life without watching “the gang tends bar” because while the ending is lovely, i have never been able to look dennis’ discomfort throughout the episode directly in the eye; his desire to be known, the loneliness, the angst there. in the final few scenes, glenn conveys something few actors can, and that’s the devastation of being fundamentally misunderstood. no one does tragedy like america’s longest running live-action sitcom.

Gregory always struck me as a very skeptical kind of kid, the kind of kid who rolls his eyes at the concepts of ghosts and magic

So it is very funny how he ends up at the very center of the mess of Fazbear Entertainment

I imagine him seeing Tony’s ghost for the very first time and going “Yup I lost my mind”

I can imagine him being neutral about it (tony is skeptical, ellis believes in ghosts and stuff like that so Greg's in the middle) and then when all of this stuff happens to him hes like ok. whatever. this happened I guess. oh look, theres Tony's ghost!

my two cents

I think the diamond is supposed to represent dennis —they're beautiful and the toughest material on earth, how Dennis wants to be viewed. a "golden god" (hence the diamond shining gold), perfect, royal, while also trying to seem unaffected by annoyances and inconveniences. Dennis telling the gang not to make diamonds with the pressure cooker makes me think of tgtb and him trying to get the gang to see past his façade, and to stop reinforcing it.

also, the "running against the system" while his blood pressure escalates along with the use of "Listen to Your Heart" seems like Dennis trying to "take a vacation from himself" and keep his anger in, thus building up pressure, but no matter how much he tries to keep it all suppressed, he fails, which leads to him giving into the "pressure". but instead of this pressure release happening in public like it has before, it happens in his mind or heart. and through this internal release, he allows his façade to remain intact as we're brought back to see that it essentially was all him using random people as devices to let out his frustrations. the diamond cannibalism having him consume or become one with the diamond.

💘Is there any posted fic you want to rework/re-edit/re-write? I think I've said it before, but my very old Lost Boys story, TGTB&TU was rough considering I was? uh? 18 when I wrote it? I still think the idea is promising, but I could execute it a lot better now at (almost) 27. But going back like that wouldn't be good for me, so I'd never bother.

🧿what steps do you take to not take things personally if a fic doesn't do well, or if your writing/posting/sharing experience isn't going how you'd like it to? Honestly that's the beauty of the sheer amount of bullshit I write. If one is falling flat, odds are there's another one doing good - or, even if not, I have 43584 other things I should be writing or working on or thinking about that I don't have time to get all broody about it.

Mostly, I try to take as much of an objective view as I can and figure out why it didn't quite work, and then keep that in mind with future projects. Usually upon reading something back, I can end up seeing why folk didn't warm to it. It is what it is, it's bound to happen here and there!

🦋what are you most insecure about when you post a fic?

Oooo probably descriptions, honestly. I know writing is one big continuous description, but like when it comes to establishing how a setting looks (which makes Tolkien!fic a hell of a challenge, because that's what he's known for), or even things like details of a character's appearance. It just always feels so clumsy to me lolol - I always get war flashbacks to My Immortal where there are sudden 8 paragraph segues into describing a character's outfit in painstakingly detail just for them to wear it for one paragraph.

I think it shows that it makes me nervous, too, because then I usually have to go back and edit in descriptions where there previously were none before I post chapters. Avoidance, babyyy.

🎉how often do you celebrate completing & posting a work? how often do you give yourself the credit/validation that you seek from others when you post? (if you don't, you should!)

💀 I do not, but I'll take that I should on board. Again, another Thing that happens when you work on 583454 projects at once. I usually post something, feel a mild sense of relief, and then open up another document to focus on the next thing within 5 minutes at most.

But like? I have so many things that I work on that I think if I actually took time to celebrate each and every little milestone, I wouldn't get anything done? Sometimes I do treat myself to a couple of chapters worth of reading time though, just to decompress if my brain is protesting against having to concentrate on my own words.
