So I just finished reading Through the Moon and the scene with Rayla and Soren stood out to me. Their friendship is so sweet and I wish it was explored more.

After season 3 I don’t think Soren would be comfortable knowing Viren is out there alive and probably with Claudia. He needs closure, just like Rayla does. And now I want a buddy cop mini series where Soren leaves with Rayla during the two year gap after season 3. They constantly end up in chaotic situations, bond over sword fighting and teasing Callum, and write back to everyone in Katolis about their adventures (complete with Soren’s bad poetry of course). It would make their fight after Rayla breaks Runann out of prison more interesting because they would have years of experience fighting next to each other

Thinking about how The Dragon Prince is simultaneously about the cycle of violence in the world and ending generational trauma and also about the relationships between parents and children and also about the process of grief and making peace with various forms of loss both personal and cultural and growing something new out of the ashes and also every possible form of love

Maybe neither Ezran or Callum/Rayla needing to pull through with their sacrifice at the end is a cop-out...

OR MAYBE, hear me out, it's a beautiful commentary on the themes of the series that the Archdragons (the dragons who through their reign are partly responsible for the state of the world), save them not just from Aarovos physically but also from needing to violate their moral convictions (eg. Erzen not solving conflicts with violants and Callum not using dark magic).

Like they gave the next generation a chance (the seven years) to build a world without the baggage of the past. A world that does not need people to do things "however dangerous, however vile".

Maybe this is not all a bait and switch to have a next season, but the fact that the story goes on is the whole point!?

Callum sends people off on their missions. Why did it have to be the Ocean dragon? aka I saw a Tumblr post saying that Callum first and foremost had Rayla's comfort in mind while sending people off on their mini-missions and I made it a drabble

Rayla, Astrid, Runaan, and Ethari (still with questions regarding who the newcomer was, which, yeah, was fair) gathered around the table as Callum told them his plan.

“Soren will be able to find Zubeia,” he said confidently. “I'll write to Ezran.”

Rayla reached for his fingers. “Callum–”

He smiled, and to anyone else at the table, it might’ve reached his eyes. “He’s not unreasonable, especially when the world is in danger. Astrid, go to New Aurea and find Aunt Amaya, fill her in.”

He didn't pay attention as she raised a tentative hand, starting, “What does she–”

He cut her off, not unkindly, just in that one-track-minded way of his. “Ethari, you go to get Rex Igneous and bring Moonberry Surprise. Trust me on that. Runaan, I'll have you come with me to talk to Akiyu. Rayla, will you go to get Domina Profundis?”

Her smile faltered, and he met her eyes with worry, squeezing her hand.

“I will,” she said, as bravely as she could because this was not the time to be hydrophobic, and, besides– this couldn't possibly be any worse than the last time, right?

Callum smiled at her reassuringly, and turned back to the rest of the group. “Okay. We can do this. Break!”

i love it when characters are unfair, actually. i love it when they’re uncouth and cranky and hypocritical, i love it when they have cognitive dissonances, i love it when they make good and bad choices for the wrong reasons. i love when they’re short to anger and hard to understand. i love it when they’ve destroyed themselves for nothing but can’t even see either part of it yet. i love it when they’re messy and selfish and bad at communicating. i love it when they get convinced of their own ego and stuck in a feedback loop regarding their own warped paranoia. i love it when characters actively make their lives unknowingly harder for themselves. i love it when characters don’t know they’re in a story. i love it when characters are like real people

There's a second chapter now, with Rayla going to Evrkynd to ask Callum's family for their blessing as well.

I've remembered this is a thing I can do; sharing my first Rayllum fic from AO3 to here as well.

Title: Customs

Synopsis: Two years after Season 7's finale, Callum has decided he's ready to propose, but first, he wants to ask Rayla's parents for their blessing. The men of her life end up sitting around the kitchen table talking about how much they love her.

“…there is no path to victory,” Aarovos mocked. “It’s over.”

“You're right, there isn’t!” Came a voice from up high. With his heart jumping, Callum turned around. “Not for you, either!” 

There she stood. Rayla of the Silvergrove, the last dragon guard and his truth and love. She took up her father’s fallen bow and, with tears running down her face, she pulled up an arrow. “Because we will sacrifice anything to stop you, and save this world.”

And then she made a promise. The same promise she had made over two years ago the night they came for King Harrow. After they had found the Dragon Prince, her goal might have changed, but her purpose had always been the same. She vowed, “my heart… for Xadia!” 

She blinked away the last tears. Closing one eye, she took keen aim. 

Aim at him.

Callum opened his mouth wanting to say something, anything… but no words came. He knew they did not need them. 

Tears came to him too, but he could not let them overtake him. She did not waver, neither would he. 

With all the determination he had in what was left of his life, Callum turned around to face the star-touched titan.

Honestly, I don't even know why I wrote this, but I was just thinking of that scene all day and if I am going to write a fic about tdp sometime, I might as well start with randomly writing that scene, lol
