Dungeon Meshi Chapter 55
Adorable title image. They're all hugging someone or something they love. Chilchuck has a daughter so he probably cares about Izutsumi like one, not that he'll ever admit it. And Shuro's the kind of person to never show he loves his retainers, so we instead see Maizuru hugging little Shuro.
Tumblr media
It's funny seeing Thistle getting knocked around so easily. He's been this menacing figure since his first introduction so it's nice to see that he's actually kind of pathetic when he can't use his magic.
Tumblr media
The Canaries have several fairies on them and can use them to communicate. I'd guess this one is Mithrun's but I also kind of feel like it might be Otta's.
Tumblr media
We've seen that Otta has terraforming magic, and Cithis seems to be a mage, but what are these two doing?
Tumblr media
One of them seems to be a beastmaster while the other is a beastkin. Maybe the info from that guy could help out Izutsumi at some point.
Okay so some of the Canaries are criminals. And all the ones grouped together when Kabru thought of that were the ones with those clippings on their ears. So that's actually a mark of them being criminals.
Mithrun teleported Kabru's leg into a walking mushroom.
Tumblr media
That is a very nasty splinter.
Tumblr media
Mithrun was probably trying to completely sever Thistle's arm but screwed up since his depth perception is poor.
The objects Mithrun teleports keep their momentum so kicking a board and then teleporting it into Thistle's leg means that the board moved around inside him. His leg muscles were probably shredded by that move.
Tumblr media
Was it ever mentioned that you have to be willing to be teleported for it to work? Thistle is able to resist Mithrun's magic. Also, I think he's trying to burn Mithrun's arm but Mithrun doesn't care.
Tumblr media
I think Mithrun was trying to be compassionate to Thistle when he told him about Delgal being dead. It looks like Mithrun loosened his grip on Thistle's throat before saying anything. Mithrun knows Thistle created the dungeon under Delgal's orders, and he thinks that if Thistle learns Delgal is dead, he'll have no reason to continue serving him. Maybe Mithrun thinks Thistle is a slave needing to be freed.
At first, this makes it seem like trying to convince Thistle to stop won't work, but Kabru mentions that Mithrun did a horrible job explaining things. Maybe it would work if someone more compassionate tried to talk instead. I don't think anyone in Laios's party will be able to pull that off.
Thistle is in denial that Delgal had been pushing him away for all those years.
Tumblr media
It should only have been a few hours since the raid fight, but all Falin's injuries are healed. Thistle probably healed her.
Tumblr media
Addendum: Mithrun can teleport himself. This will definitely not cause additional problems in the future.
Tumblr media
The western elves definitely come from some elf-supremacist place. They have no respect for other races' lifespans at all. If it was an egalitarian society, short-lived races would have an expedited interrogation process since time matters far more to them. Actually, whatever system where a person could be imprisoned indefinitely for questioning because elves don't think much about time would be thrown out.
I wonder if there are some laws that adjust prison times based on a race's life expectancy. Like, if a Tallman would get 10 years in prison, a Half-foot should get 6 years and an elf 50 years. Giving the same prison time sentence would be far crueler to short-lived races but mean practically nothing to a long-lived one.
Kabru's beloved smother mother
Tumblr media
Was Rin also from Utaya or some other village destroyed by a dungeon? Doesn't seem like she was taken in by someone like Kabru's foster mother.
Kabru had one of those "To be lawful or good" moments. His ultimate goal is to ensure a second Utaya doesn't happen. Initially, he thought his best bet was to let Laios conquer the dungeon while Kabru keeps the Canaries from charging in and causing problems. But the Canaries have quickly and efficiently handled the situation far and above Kabru's expectations.
Tumblr media
Kabru's acting like Laios in this moment. He's asking why black magic is so bad, and he's realized there's more to a dungeon that what the elves let on. If Thistle was some horrible monster rather than a servant trying to help his king, and if Falin were able to be as dangerous on the surface as she was below, Kabru might have let the canaries act. But there's too much inconsistency with the dungeon now and what happened in Utaya for him to just let it go.
And he wants to do his part to save Falin as well.
Tumblr media
Oh that eye on the book moves. So the part in chapter 42 is as ominous as it appeared.
No telling what the red dragon's personality was before fusing with Falin, but Falin's compassionate and caring side has definitely become part of its personality.
Tumblr media
I'm sure this all happens before chapter 47. I went back through it to see Thistle's outfit and he's wearing different clothes from this one. He's wearing a long-sleeved shirt and his garment seems to go further down his legs as well. He was also visibly tired, probably on edge after nearly dying and also having to think about what Mithrun told him.
His eyes were also in the same shape as the eyes on his book.
Tumblr media
We've had so many dramatic chapters with Kabru and it all ended with him falling to an uncertain doom as he entrusts Laios to achieve what he could not.
And then it cuts to this:
Tumblr media
So much is happening in the wider world. Meanwhile in the future, Laios and company are still getting into hijinks, completely unaware of anything going on.
Since Changelings transform their victims into "similar" creatures, Marcille's transformation into an ogre implies ogres are in the same taxonic human classification. And Izutsumi has transformed into two different demi-humans now. So despite being born a Tallman, her beastkin status causes the mushrooms to classify her as closer to them.
I kind of want to throw Izutsumi into a changeling ring several times to see what might happen. Would she eventually turn into a mermaid?
And this made me think that maybe orcs and kobolds have a similar origin to Izutsumi. Like, what if there were ancient experiments to fuse human and animal souls, and the results created a large population of beings that were capable of reproduction? Orcs would have been pig-beastkin while kobolds were dog-beastkin.
Marcille's outfit is amazingly elastic. The front buttons are barely holding together, but her pants and sleeves are not having any issues despite all of Marcille's limbs now being thicker than her elf body.
Oh, I never took Laios as a fan of muscular women. I guess he really was admiring Zon's wives in MMT2.
Tumblr media
Also, Marcille has a new hairstyle. Twin braided tails.
I can't believe the frog suits came back, even if just a little.
Tumblr media
Senshi is having such a hard time cooking as a half-foot. He can barely reach the counter and he needs Chilchuck to mix everything cause his hands aren't big enough.
Tumblr media
Senshi's worry that Izutsumi wouldn't drink a mushroom tonic ended up being unfounded. Turns out, changing species affects your taste afterall and orc Izutsumi likes mushrooms.
Did someone cut up Izutsumi's hamburg steak for her? She's the only one not using a knife.
Tumblr media
At some point during the fall, Kabru realized that he's leaving everything to a group of clowns.

In preparation for the upcoming release of the second book: a compilation of all translations by this account of Twisted Wonderland: the first novel!
(These do not encompass the entire book, only the parts that vary from the original game)
What Yuuya Remembers Crowley catches up to Yuuya, who has recently woken up inside of a coffin and been chased through an unknown building by a monster demanding his clothes. Crowley explains that Yuuya--just like everyone in the school--is the egg of a magic user. Yuuya tries to remember what happened.
Yuuya, Alone After escorting Yuuya to Ramshackle, Crowley leaves to visit the library. Left alone for the first time since waking up in a coffin, Yuuya is finally confronted with the reality of his situation.
Yuuya Dreams After awaking in a coffin, battling ghosts, making peace with Grim and being hired as janitorial staff, main protagonist Kuroki Yuuya spends his first night in Ramshackle Dorm--and has a dream.
Ghost Escort After spending his first night in Ramshackle with Grim, Yuuya wakes up to a surprise: the ghosts that he thought they had exterminated the night before are back, and they're friendly. Yuuya reflects on the Great Seven statues.
Meeting Ace Yuuya's first interaction with Ace is not pleasant.
Yuuya's Confession After their violent first meeting with Ace, Grim plots his revenge while the ghosts cheer him on him, forcing Yuuya to reveal something that he has been trying to avoid all day. And it leads to a revelation.
Naming Ramshackle and Culture Shock Some NRC information from the novel and emphasis on how foreign everything is to the protagonist through comparisons to how very different school systems overseas (and in other dimensions?) are when compared to those in Japan. Yuuya has at least twice the culture shock in any given situation.
Cafeteria Panic Much like the game, after Ace tries to ditch his window-washing duties it is Grim's turn to run away. Ace and Deuce are quick to turn to violence in order to capture him, which Yuuya can neither condone nor stop.
Ace Almost Apologizes Assigned by Crowley to retrieve a magestone from the mines to compensate for the damage done to the cafeteria chandelier, Ace realizes that the stakes are far higher for Yuuya than he'd thought, and almost manages to apologize.
Getting Them to Listen Ace, Deuce, Yuuya and Grim successfully find a magestone only to be chased away by a monster telling them to get out and that the stone is theirs. The situation immediately devolves into finger-pointing and arguments, which Yuuya tries his best to manage. (This scene seems significant to the "beast master" role of the Prefect that is only rarely touched upon in the game.)
Yuuya's First Class After retrieving the magestone, being assigned the role of "beastmaster" by Crowley and being permitted to attend school as one-half a student (with Grim), Yuuya shows up to his very first class at Night Raven College, and it is just as awkward as the high school he left back home.
Yuuya and Deuce Yuuya has been stared all morning by the other students, throughout disastrous potions lessons where he couldn't understand what was going on. It is finally time for lunch, but he has lost his appetite. Cue, Deuce.
Yuuya at Night A quick blurb for anyone wondering how the novel approached the sleeping situation in Ramshackle: Following an afternoon of PE with Vargas while everyone else had flying lessons, Yuuya is home after his first day at school.
Ace Apologizes After a difficult first day of school Yuuya is awoken by Ace, who is asking to spend the night after stealing a tart at Heartslabyul. Important note: just moments earlier Yuuya tells Ace that if he apologizes from the heart, Riddle will forgive him for stealing.
Yuuya and Ace Lunchtime at his second day at school is shaping up to be just as terrible as the first, when Deuce had to step in to keep Yuuya from breaking down entirely under the whispers and stares of the other Night Raven College students. Now it is his second day of school and it is happening again, but worse. Cue, Ace.
Meeting Leona Leona's introduction was entirely retconned in the novel: when Deuce and Yuuya are on their way back to Heartslabyul from the school store with eggs for the chestnut tart they are interrupted by a group of Savanaclaw bullies, and Leona steps in.
Ace Asks for Help After a sleepover where Ace, Deuce and Grim dub Yuuya the "prefect" of Ramshackle Dorm, Deuce and Ace are already awake. Ace is hoping for Yuuya's support with apologizing to Riddle, but has difficulty asking for it.
Yuuya Fails Ace has presented a chestnut tart to Riddle to ask forgiveness for what he stole, only for Riddle to reveal an unknown rule about chestnut tarts and unbirthday parties, and order it thrown out. Ace tries to stand up against Riddle and looks to his dormmates for support, but receives none. Not even from Yuuya.
Yuuya's Guilt Yuuya is wracked with guilt after failing to join Ace against Riddle, and now both Deuce and Grim have been collared as well. Ace himself is less than pleased, and Yuuya can't help but think that everything is all his fault.
Yuuya Apologizes Yuuya fails to defend Ace to Riddle during the unbirthday party's chestnut tart incident, and the guilt is eating him alive. After speaking with Chenya, the four first-year students go to Trey for answers, but Trey has nothing to say in his own defense.
Ramshackle Sleepover It is the night before the duel between Ace, Deuce and Riddle, and no one is able to fall asleep. The three begin discussing the events of the day, and the topic turns to the mysterious Malleus Draconia.
Duel for Housewarden The unstable situation at Heartslabyul has led to this, a duel between Ace, Deuce and Riddle. Cater makes one, final bid to stop it, while Yuuya finds himself more involved than he'd anticipated.
Riddle Gloats Ace and Deuce’s duel against Riddle was over almost as soon as it began, but Riddle isn’t through with them yet.
Deuce vs Riddle Deuce makes a final effort to stand up against Riddle, and Yuuya can only take so much.
Yuuya vs Riddle Someone is finally standing up to Riddle and, against all expectations, it’s Yuuya.
Ace vs Riddle Riddle shifts from insulting Yuuya's home to mocking Ace and Deuce's parents. It does not go well.
The Egg Scene Riddle throws a temper tantrum in the gardens, and the students of Heartslabyul have finally had enough.
Riddle, Breaking Down After being so mistreated for so long the students of Heartslabyul have finally had enough. Deuce is not impressed.
Riddle Attacks Riddle delights in terrorizing the students who have turned on him and Ace alone stands his ground.
Trey Protects As Riddle tries to murder Ace, Trey steps up.
Riddle on the Edge Teetering on the brink of overblot, Riddle tries to come to terms with the thought that he was made to suffer for nothing.
The Transformation Riddle transforms.
Birth of a Monster The Overblot
Crowley's Magic Riddle has been taken over, and Crowley steps up.
Something to Tell Him Cater and Trey are convinced to join Ace, Deuce, Yuuya and Grim in standing to fight.
The Struggle Crowley has left to evacuate the students, Ace has no plan, and Riddle is fading fast.
The Overblot Battle Trey saves Cater, but he cannot reach Riddle
Meeting Trey Having collapsed during the overblot battle, Riddle dreams of his childhood and meeting Trey and Chenya for the first time.
Riddle Awakens In the aftermath of the battle, Trey becomes desperate.
Visiting Ramshackle Long after the fight, Ace and Deuce visit Yuuya and they discuss how things have changed.
Stubborn Ace calls Yuuya stubborn, completely catching him off guard.
The Unbirthday Party Yuuya and Grim attend Heartslabyul's Unbirthday Party, and Riddle surprises them all.

Dragon Lord Carter
------------
Carter was built by me, but his Sabertooth Leopard is an old Heroclix. Both were painted by the same friend who painted Orion. Carter is going to simply be a deathworld veteran. His beastie, i'm not sure.
------------
Carter is a Catachan veteran who grew up taking a great interest in the beasts and monsters of his homeworld. He spent many years trying to understand and tame the monsters. He holds a deep reverence to animals and wild beasts.
For most of his life, he had the moniker of "The Beastmaster" for his tendency to have a small crew of tamed local beasts following him into battle. On a hive world during one of his deployments, Carter adopted a large hound, and the hound went with him everywhere from then on. During a night on guard duty, the hound helped itself to some officers rations, and the commissar executed it. In a fury, Carter went AWOL and abandoned his regiment, becoming a mercenary who would travel with anyone, as long as they paid and left his pets alone.
Carter found his niche in capturing and taming animals for various menageries belonging to Rogue Traders and planetary governers. Some jobs were simple, hunting down problematic beasts on agri-worlds, or other jobs were procuring some rare animal for a menagerie.
Carter has a deep love for animals and beasts, and as such never takes kindly to a beast with bionics - the only time he is willing to tolerate it is if the bionic is essential for the animals survival. He would rather the beast survive on it's own merits.
He earned the name "The Dragon Lord" whilst working as a mercenary for a Rogue Trader against a group of Eldar Exodites. Their coterie had captured one of the fierce lizards that the Eldar had used as mounts, and over the weeks of the campaign, Carter was able to bring the massive lizard to heel. Carter personally rode it into battle against the Eldar in the final battles of the campaign, and left the monstrous lizard with the Trader on his departure.
Most recently, Carter has fallen in with an Inquisitor named Orion, and has agreed to follow him. He has his sights set on Taming one of the massive Ice "Bears" that inhabit one of the icy moons of Tsardoma, Orion's home system.

Note
could you do one that control all parts of tye inner-world (except the actual alters) - like including places NPC’s (pets, plants non alter living things) and memory sorting - like in our system we have a ‘library’ where memories are sorted chronologically ! it’s ok if not :3
Similar terms already exist, but if you would like a different one, we can make a new term!
Puppetmaster: A Headmate with intimate control over certain or all aspects of headspace and/or fronting.
Sculptor: An alter that creates things like NPC’s, vessels, clones, fake alters, etc.
Beastmaster: a headmate who can create, remove, as well as control NPCs, animals, plant life and any other living part of a headspace. They do not have any control over headmates, fragments or any other sentient/sapient part of the system. (Pluralpedia Recoin)

Are any of the classes rarer than others? There was the remark that it has been forever since she's seen a Beastmaster, and Etherweavers seem to be kind of common considering how we saw a couple of them tending to the hedge, but is the MC unusually strong or good at it? We kinda lack comparison for anything but the Battle Zealot (thanks Id, for your sacrifice) and Vox Psions seem like glass canons. Also make me think of Lena's collar and the restrictions on her saying things oddly... hmm. Curioser and curioser! I picked the Vox Psion in the end, it felt a little off for my recluse shy healer MC, but I really liked the tuning staff idea and it's just such an attractive option to have them have a really beautiful voice and almost nobody knowing it. Also the sign language could come in handy. I keep thinking of non talking charas like Oma or Id in his grumpy mood.
I love this entire ask! Thank you for it :] And yes, old bloods (which there are very few left of) are outliers because they have trained and mastered it for longer than others, not to mention that they are Rivenians born and bred and have lived with the surge around them for their entire lives, adapting to it without even knowing. Sure, they might be out of practice, but their inherent knowledge of the surge is way deeper than the average hunter today. I'd liken it to a tier system, where your hunter is in the top tier. Other hunters would see them as mentors, or role models. It isn't as intuitive for them.
Originally, the ones that had a solid connection to the surge used it like etherweavers, which is why you see weavers in the intro! It is the most common spec, absolutely, seeing how needed it is to maintain the hedge. It is very rarely seen used in combat, though.
That is about as far as I have come on the worldbuilding on the surge specialities - as I've said before, this whole spec system was a curve ball for me too, and not in the original planning. I love when writing gets organic like that, it is so much fun to tinker with!

Endymion the Shepherd Warframe
I was genuinely surprised to see Endymion perform so well, handily scoring a joint first place with Macbeth in the first round. Can't seem to fathom what made Endymion work where the old "Duviri Beastmaster" fell short. It must have been the tightness of Endymion's scope, choosing to do fewer things but do them better.
The method for obtaining Endymion and her signature primary weapon the Orpheus is slightly complex. Every time the player(s) complete a Duviri animal conservation, Tamm hearding, or Corrupted Jackal assassination objective they will be rewarded with a Tamm Horn. Tamm Horn rewards are doubled if playing steel path. Players can then exchange their collected Tamm Horns with Mathila in her courtier form at her farm during any spiral other than joy. Mathila's Tamm Horn exchange options are as follows
Endymion blueprint (6 Tamm Horns)
Endymion chassis blueprint (6 Tamm Horns)
Endymion neuroptics blueprint (6 Tamm Horns)
Endymion systems blueprint (6 Tamm Horns)
Orpheus blueprint (4 Tamm Horns)
Orpheus barrel (4 Tamm Horns)
Orpheus reciever (4 Tamm Horns)
Orpehus stock (4 Tamm Horns)
1 Aya (6 Tamm Horns)
Ayatan Hemakara Sculpture (8 Tamm Horns)
Ayatan Zambuka Sculpture (8 Tamm Horns)
Random Riven Mod (10 Tamm Horns, limit 1 per day)
Health: 500 (600 at rank 30) Shields: 100 (200 at rank 30) Armor: 500 Energy: 150 (200 at rank 30) Sprint Speed: 0.9
Passive: Each of Endymion's abilities can be used in one of two ways: tap to cast as a buff for Endymion, or hold to summon one of Endymion's battle Tamms. These two modes are mutually exclusive, if the buff from an ability is activated while its associated Tamm is summoned the Tamm will disappear, and if the Tamm is summoned the buff offered by that ability will be disabled. Each active buff improves damage dealt by summoned Tamms by 10% and each active Tamm increases the intensity of currently active buffs by 10%.
By default each of Endymion's summoned Tamm have twice her max health, half of her shields, and armor equal to hers. The AI behavior of these Tamms is based on regular animal companions such as Kubrow and Kavats. The Tamm's standard attacks deal 100 times 1+X (where X is equal to the enemy's level divided by 10) impact damage with 20% status chance, 20% critical chance, and a 2x critical multiplier. The Tamms also have a special ramming attack with a 15 second cooldown which can be used on enemies that are between 10 and 20 meters away which deals double damage and is guaranteed to stagger the target. Each Tamm has special characteristics that separate it from the others. Summoned Tamms last for 20 seconds or until killed. If a Tamm takes fatal damage there will be a 10 second delay before it can be summoned again.
Ability 1: Michael the Unstoppable, 50 energy (summon) or 25 energy to activate plus 3 per second (buff toggle).
When Endymion embodies the strength of her legendary Tamm Michael she becomes an unstoppable force, recklessly crashing through enemies with ease. While the buff The Unstoppable is active Endymion becomes immune to stagger and knockdown while also dealing 300 impact damage to enemies she runs into with a guaranteed stagger, causing the enemy to stumble away from her.
As a summon Michael's unique attribute is his immunity to status effects, knockdowns, and staggers.
Ability 2: Raphael the Swift, 50 energy (summon) or 25 energy to activate plus 3 per second (buff toggle).
Raphael's agility is legendary as the swiftest of Endymion's Tamms and by embodying him she can borrow this great swiftness. While the buff The Swift is active Endymion's sprint speed & parkour velocity is increased by 30%, and her jump height is increased by 50%. Both of these effects scale with ability strength.
Unlike the other legendary Tamms, Raphael's ramming attack has a minimum range of 5 meters, maximum range of 30, and a cooldown of 10 seconds allowing him to make use of it more often.
Ability 3: Gabriel the Unwavering, 50 energy (summon) or 25 energy to activate plus 3 per second (buff toggle).
Gabriel is one of Endymion's most fearless Tamms, with his tremendous strength of body and spirit he is perhaps most worthy to be hailed as a legendary beast. While the buff version of this ability - The Unwavering - is active Endymion gains 25% bonus armor and regenerates 40 health per second. Bonus armor from this ability ramps up by 5% every 5 seconds, up to a maximum bonus of 50%.
Compared to the other Tamms Gabriel has 1.5x more health, shields, and armor, making him easily the most durable of them all.
Ability 4: Phanuel the Raging, 50 energy (summon) or 25 energy to activate plus 3 per second (buff toggle).
Phanuel's story is told most often of the four legendary Tamms in Endymion's flock, for he was born disfigured, a tragic runt with no horns. The great shepherd Endymion used her unknown powers to heal his deformity and make him strong, giving him not just the majestic curved horns of a Tamm, but making them unbreakable, with a deadly serrated edge. When Endymion enbraces The Raging of Phanuel she gains a multiplicative +150% weapon damage bonus which applies to all of her equipped weapons. This bonus ramps up by 5% every 5 seconds up to a maximum of +200%.
Phanuel's unique characteristic when summoned is his attack damage. Instead of a base value of 100 impact damage Phanuel's tooth-bladed horns deal 50 points each of impact, puncture, and slash damage for a total of 150 points before applying the level-scaling multiplier. Furthermore Phanuel's attacks have their critical and status chance increased from 20% to 30%.
Subsumed ability: Raphael the Swift
Signature Weapons Orpheus: Endymion's signature primary weapon categorized as a shotgun with a held-beam style trigger. The Orpheus is quite different from other beam shotguns, firing only a single beam which deals abnormally high damage in a large spherical blast radius of 6 meters at the point of contact or beam termination allowing it to hit multiple enemies at once. Both of these advantages are offset by its extremely short maximum reach of only 12 meters and its unusually slow ramp-up compared to other beam weapons. Damage ramps up from 15% to 100% over 1.0 seconds when firing. After firing stops for 0.8 seconds, the damage decays back to 15% over 1.5 seconds. The Orpheus also has an abnormally thick beam allowing for easier contact with enemy bodies. To better support continuous fire the Orpheus has a very large magazine offset by a slow reload. Orpheus deals pure magnetic damage with high critical chance and above average critical multiplier at the cost of very low status chance. As Endymion's signature shotgun the Orpheus's damage decay takes 3 seconds instead of 1.5 when she wields it. Pan: Endymion's signature melee weapon, a pair of beastly fists used for barbaric hand-to-hand combat. The Pan fists can be unlocked for the Drifter's use in Teshin's cave in exchange for 50 Pathos Clamps. Doing so unlocks the Pan's blueprint for Warframe use which is crafted using a variety of Duviri materials. Pan has a quick attack speed at the cost of below-normal damage, deals mostly slash damage with moderate puncture and impact, and has very high status chance at the cost of low critical chance and below average critical multiplier. Guarding heavy attacks with Pan perform a double-fisted ground slam, pumping energy into the ground which then erupts upwards beneath all enemies in a 10 meter radius around the wielder. This eruption applies a guaranteed heat status proc and launches enemies into the air causing them to become ragdolled momentarily. There is a 30 second cooldown on this special attack which is reduced by 1 second each time the wielder scores a melee kill. As Endymion's signature melee weapon heavy attacks gain +20% heavy attack efficiency when she wields it.
Closing Notes: Endy's four Tamms are named after the four angels "who stands before God in the Book of Enoch (ca. 300 BC)" Aside from that Endymion, Orpheus, and Pan are all shepherds from legend or myth. Nothing else here is really a big clever Easter egg. The overall idea I was chasing down with this design was a monstrous tank. With all four buffs toggled on Endy is a juggernaut, and with all four Tamms summoned she's a zookeeper. Of course finding your personal favorite combination of buffs and Tamms is where her real core gameplay loop is going to come from. And then I gave her a novel shotgun to pair with that juggernaut playstyle. I genuinely think that Endy has a kit that everyone will use in their own special way and not just enslave themselves to the meta. Also GOD DAMN this is a big wall of text. Do you love the color of the sky type of post.

You ever see that something doesn’t exist/isn’t a thing yet, and you think “Well now I gotta be the one to do this.”?
Well that’s what happened with an idea I have for a bugsnax dnd au. I’ve seen that people have made grumpuses a playable race in dnd, but I’ve never seen anyone imagine an au for bugsnax based off of dnd. There’s 2 routes you could go with this:
The characters are in a dnd world
The characters play a dnd campaign
I ended up choosing the latter, because I thought it’d be fun to make dnd characters inspired by how I imagine bugsnax characters would play.
I’ve split the snaxburg group into 2 dnd campaigns, because the idea of managing a campaign of 13 players sounds like absolute hell.
The group I have drawn is a campaign run by Eggabell, with Wambus, Cromdo, Chandlo, Triffany, Lizbert, and Gramble as players. I honestly have a whole plot for the campaign in my head, but I don’t wanna get into that now, so instead I’ll show you what their characters look like, and some general information about the characters and the players play-style
Tumblr media
These Are The Lads
I’m gonna go from left to right with some basic info
Octavio Hailstone
Storm Sorcerer Blue Dragonborn
Played by Wambus
First time playing, but he gets into character.
Amanda Skullcrush
Berserker Barbarian Orc
Played by Cromdo
Also first time playing, and is good at combat. Horrible at the role play though 😔
Charlie Brightshot
Sharpshooter Aarakocra
Played by Chandlo
Seen Snorpy play, has absorbed knowledge of the game through osmosis.
Talulah Bonebound
Undead Warlock Stoneperson(homebrew)
Played by Triffany
She’s played a bit before when she was younger, but is still learning the new system
Jessica Woodgaurd
Beastmaster Ranger Gnome
Played by Lizbert
Has played before with Eggabell, and surprisingly never played ranger.
Ashton Nightwatcher
Dream Druid Dryad(homebrew)
Played by Gramble
Played some in middle school, but not much since.
(Edit: had to reupload the image bc it was crunched up)

Beastmaster (system role)
[PT: Beastmaster (system role)]
“A beastmaster is a headmate who can create, remove, as well as control NPCs, animals, plant life and any other living part of a headspace. They do not have any control over headmates, fragments or any other sentient/sapient part of the system.” - Pluralpedia(link)

The Amazing Plural Headspace AU: Caine
HOST: Fronts the most often, is most responsible for day-to-day activities
CAESIAN: Detatched from the system’s trauma, therefore more equipped for handling daily life
OMNISCIUS: “All knowing” alter; doesn’t know literally everything, but knows more than most and has control over way more things
ADMIN: performs internal tasks and functions that benefit the system and its ability to properly function.
Taskdoer/Steward: does tasks that the body is responsible for (work, schoolwork, chores, hygiene)
Gatekeeper/Puppetmaster: controls switching and access to certain areas inside the headspace
Architect: creates, destroys, edits, and changes locations in headspace
Beastmaster: can create, remove, as well as control NPCs, animals, plant life, and any other living part of the headspace
Caller: Has the ability to summon headmates
Caine wears the most hats, is good at what he does (sorta. Mostly. Depending.) and sees himself as the only one who can really do his job(s). Between all these roles and constantly masking both symptoms as well as his eccentric personality to the outside world, he will sometimes overwork the body into a panic attack, breakdown, shutdown, or temporary dormancy of himself, leaving the others to pick up the pieces. He doesn’t have COMPLETE control over everything, many NPCs, locations, etc are out of his hands. Him sharing a name with the body is one of many reasons why he sees himself as the only one who should be in charge.

I beat Final Fantasy Tactics Advance
Tumblr media
This might be the longest game from start to finish I've ever played
Not in the sense that this is a long game but in the fact that this is the first real game I ever played (I'm sorry, I'm not considering pc learning programs for baby), and it took me approximately 18-19 years to get around to Finally beating it. It's very funny to say that my first experience into gaming was a strategy game. I also think that somewhere, deep down in my heart, this planted the seed for what games I ended up loving in my present. Experiencing this game with an adult mind was ALMOST a fresh experience, yet I uncovered a lot of old memories and experiences during it.
This game is goddamn addicting. I Genuinely had so much trouble putting it down at times because I just Kept Wanting To Play. Let me explain to you my thoughts :)
Gameplay
I love RPGs to the bottom of my heart; HOWEVER. I have Always Always Always HATED gear management. I don't think I ever truly appreciated it in a game until Final Fantasy IX, where equipping gear and holding onto it taught you abilities permanently. It made me care about my gear and when to equip it more than just stat buffs and "yeah I guess I'll get fire immunity whatever". I LOVE that system so much. Another system that I love to the bottom of my heart (also an FF Classic but Dragon Quest gave me this too) is the job/class system. The freedom of changing my characters to be whatever I want and to mix and match their abilities is so fun and leads to a lot of flavor and mechanics. Final Fantasy V does it the best imo. So what do I get here? I get 2 of my favorite RPG mechanics of all time put into one!!! The reason this game is so addicting is it's basically to me character building simulator. I am constantly thinking about job paths, what I want each of my guys to be, how much time am I putting them in battles and spreading across their usage and swapping gear to maximize AP gains and make a small army of broken warriors. It's an absolute joy. The base gameplay is super solid too which helps. I mean, I love strategy RPGs (I am, unfortunately, a Fire Emblem bitch), so you literally can't go wrong with it.
I loved the jobs in this game. In fact, I'm gonna be a big nerd and tell you about my whole clan because this is MY post and I make the rules
Marche - Paladin/Fighter: World's Strongest Child. Fighter's damage output is insane, and has a wide range of abilities that helped out with its accuracy or distance, as well as just some meaty hits to annihilate. I went into Paladin just for some extra defense, and was also blessed with some good support skills and a stupid strong nuke in Holy Blade.
Montblanc - Mog Knight/Juggler: To be real here, I fucked up with this dude. I Did Not know what I wanted to do with him, and messed his stats up a little as a result. But Juggler is such a good support unit, especially with Dagger's disable + damage and Smile's instant turn ratio. Mog Knight did not perform how I wanted it to, but it has funny ability names.
Nikolai - Hunter/Archer: As I mentioned before, I'm a Fire Emblem bitch; and what that means is that I'm used to archers sucking shit (fuck you Python hit your damned shots). I was NOT expecting the bowman here to be as goated as he was. The utility of the aim abilities from damage boosting to disabling the enemy, as well as hunt's huge monster damage, this dude was a prime stay throughout the entire playthrough.
Chelney - Dragoon/Gladiator: This guy took a bit to load up, but once he did, holy shit. Absolute damage demon. Dragoon's wide range of AOE abilities + spear usage given some extra strength and smaller focus when needed from Gladiator, on top of the insane movement I gave him meant I had a Bangaa missile land wherever I wanted it to.
Eugene - Sage/White Mage/Beastmaster (when needed): Another unit I didn't really do optimally. White Mage is obviously a great support as it always is, but I genuinely thought Sage was gonna be a support type. Instead I got some damage skills (which to be fair were nice to have) that were super rare to find and didn't feel really BEEFY. Beastmaster was mostly there to support the Blue Mage.
Gertrude - Red Mage/Summoner: The early playthrough goat and 1/2 of the reason why I think Viera units are the best units in the game. Red Mage's wide variety of abilities came in clutch, as well as the bit of Fencer I gave her at first to cover both magic and physical. Then came Summoner, which was just "haha drop a big explosion". THEN I got Doublecast. "HAHA DROP TWO BIG EXPLOSIONS". Very very very fun unit, I just wish she actually managed to hit more. I blame myself for not giving her more movement to get behind the enemy.
Skimble - Time Mage/Black Mage: The epitome of a glass cannon, Poor Skimble could nuke anyone he saw but kept constantly getting targeted and killed. I actually did really like this mix of jobs because he could pull off support and damage well whenever I needed.
Gotwald - Bishop/White Monk: Not the most used unit, but a VERY fun combination of jobs. Bishop is like, Good Sage, with its healing and damage magic, and then the White Monk abilities balanced it out with some physical attacks as needed and Revive. Thematically it all balances out very well, I loved this.
Gallahad - Ninja: Another unit I didn't really know what to do with. He started out as a thief but I never really liked stealing in games (mainly cause it just never seemed worth the trouble). It was worth it to get to Ninja, though. His damage output, especially once I unlocked Double Sword was insane. The utility of Ninja Skills are also awesome, I just wish he could land them.
Agatha - Assassin/Sniper: I lied when I said Gertrude was 1/2 of what convinced me Vieras were the best. Agatha is 5/6ths of what convinced me of this fact. Having her in Sniper was already really solid with Doubleshot, Death Scythe, Aim:Weapon, etc (a really funny combo was dooming someone then using Montblanc to speed up their turns and thus their demise.) But then Assassin? Holy shit. Literally just instantly killing anything across the field, dashing around at mach speed, everything in her range. Once I mastered Ultima Buster and gave her back a greatbow, everyone was just "am I going to Last Breath or Ultima Buster you? You get one shot either way". Insane unit.
Karl - Gunner/Animist: This is such a fun long range hide in the back of the map combo. Gunner has surprisingly crazy damage, and it can keep up that damage AND cause statuses. Animist rounds it out nicely with the self heal and AOE attacks (oh I can't shoot you? Get Chocobo'd, idiot.)
Nobel - Blue Mage/Fighter: This is a Blue Mage that is 1000% worth the investment. You don't even need all the spells. Matra Magic is one of the funniest spells in a strategy game I've ever used, and even beyond that I had Twister and Dragon Force. Fighter was there to give them extra meat for their attack based spells, as well as no MP options because Damage > MP is a thing and is good.
That was my clan, and I feel like most everyone got their time to shine (even if certain bunnies and lizards got a little more than others). There are some jobs I wish I got to experience a little more but I just couldn't put the investment into it. Illusionist and Alchemist are a couple that I think I could have cooked with in an alternate timeline; Templar as well. Gadgeteer scares me, but a luck based affect everyone class is really funny conceptually. I also really appreciated how throughout the game, the base jobs weren't always invalidated, and they had their place when needed.
I think building characters, while it is the part I enjoyed the most through the game, is very much sunk cost. You gotta just invest in your guys from the get go cause nobody you recruit later is going to even out just due to amount of abilities.
Other gameplay things I liked: customizable map is really cool. I ended up going with an optimized guide just cause I wanted treasure and I know I don't play games more than once often so I was going for full 100%, but as a replayability feature it's SO cool. I also actually quite enjoyed the little bit of time management that was there; it reminded me of Persona. Hold off to accept this mission cause I can't make it in time to do these other couple, plan out my optimal route to hit as many or as little battles as I could in this period. Map navigation was an actual part of the game which was cool.
The Law system gives me feelings so complicated. Thematically, it's very cool and fits in perfectly in the world (or I should say the world is built around it very well.) And theoretically, it really gives you incentive to switch around your units and plan out their growth. But in my experience, 80% of the time it was just annoying? (which again, flavor wise, VERY accurate). Like there were times where I got hit with "do not hit animals go to jail" on a mission I did not know was exclusively full of animals. I also don't think they were the clearest things at times, and you really do just have to get punished to find out the limits of stuff. It's not The Worst, but I don't think I had a lot of fun with it. Except when it prevented the enemies from doing something that was hilarious. Stupid Illusionist can't do anything when target all is illegal lmfao
To tie in two previous points, I think Jagds were a very cool area. The trade off of no laws but for permadeath is neat, and those zones actually gave me fear and made me try to plan and prepare when I went around them. I also have a memory of my childhood playthrough losing my favorite guy so I didn't want a repeat of that hahaha. But I think the permadeath eventually becomes WAY more of a punishment than it should be due to how hard raising a character is. One wrong move, and the guy you put dozens of hours and AP into is gone. I will say, this game absolutely made me anal about saving constantly, so that might be good? Maybe?
Two things I can strictly say I disliked, were the randomness and dispatch missions/mission items. When it comes to randomness, I feel like I was really blocked out of certain things just because I couldn't get the units or items I wanted. I didn't get the chance to recruit a second Viera for so long, which sucks when jobs are race based. (I read somewhere that it was based off month but I found that out way too late). Items as well; when abilities are locked to gear, you Need gear to reach potentials. But I barely got any Sage weapons, I was losing out on a lot of ice magic cause I just couldn't get the items, and I literally never got to figure out how to steal said weapons cause I didn't get the weapon to do that. It bothered me. Mission items are the absolute bane of my existence. I HATED them. You need them for so many missions, but those missions will appear WAY before you can even get the items, and some items are one time get only meaning you can screw yourself out of everything, which I hated. Yes, I know that if I was playing this back in the day (and if I had friends when I was playing this back in the day), you could trade and link for items, but as a solo player, it just doesn't work. The mystery difficulty of dispatch missions sucked too. I had to look up the formula just to figure out how to make something guaranteed to win.
I think this wins the award for Game With Gameplay I Actually Really Cared For And Had Opinions About 2024
Story + Characters
As a kid, I really didn't think about the story at all even though I could read it just fine. I was just a small one who named his character ABCDabcdef and had fun moving my guys around (also god damn I was a lot smarter than I thought considering how far I got) My adult brain though, was actually able to appreciate what this game was. I think it offers a really interesting inversion on the Isekai genre, before the Isekai genre even blew up. What if the main character wanted to go home? For a GBA game in 2003, I feel like this was surprisingly... profound? is that the word? I'm not saying it was the greatest piece of media ever written, in fact I think there were a couple areas where I would have liked a little more clarification/details, but like, for what it is. It's really cool.
Marche I think is an interesting character. He felt very... responsible. Like "haha ok guys we had our fun but we Need to go back." He was able to call the bullshit on the world, and try to pull everything back to reality. I felt this even further reading about his backstory and relationship to his family. Sure, he had freedom, but he dedicated his effort To his brother, and his mother, to make them happy, even at the cost of his own. He's a character that I very much appreciated and related to. Although, I think I would have liked more to his motivation. A stronger reason behind his intense want to go home.
Ritz and Doned were fine. I like them, but there isn't much To them. Ritz was a cool, strong character who I liked how she never backed down from her wants, and Doned hit close to my heart, being a very accurate younger brother; and I felt for him, "gaining" the health he always wanted. I really liked the scene between him and Marche fighting about what the other has. But they didn't get to show up much, which stinks, and in Ritz's case especially I wish her motivation was a little stronger.
Mewt I think was the perfect character to cause this story and this world. I completely understood his struggles between the bullying and the loss of his mother, seeing the struggles of his father, and wanting that all to go away, dealing with, or more aptly NOT dealing with the pain by running away from it. His mental state literally shaped the world, from the laws of the land to creating an overpowered coping mechanism in the form of him but backwards (fuck you Llednar you're too damn strong).
This game has a good Cid. I expected him to be a shithead, but in the real world he was just depressed and in Ivalice he was actually really honorable.
Montblanc and Shara were both good friends to their respective child, but I do wish they both had a little more background/depth. (I also wish that Shara hit literally any of her shots come on I wasted a unit slot on you)
Both the Nu Mou surprised me; Babus actually made me feel for the dude, clearly caring about his prince and fighting for him; his behavior and appearance made me think he was Mewt's stuffed animal given life. Ezel's fucking hilarious, this dude said FUCK the government, laws are no fun at all. I love that dude so much.
I don't have much to say about Remedi, as she's literally an extension of Mewt. She serves her role as being that physical incarnation of a metaphysical concept to plunge your sword into that every FF game needs.
To kinda summarize my point, I did like everything, and I thought there were a lot of cool concepts. The game made me feel feelings, it plucked at my heart a little. But it's not as deep as I would have liked, I don't think. Granted, this is a GBA game. I'm not expecting Shakespeare or anything, but if we ever got a remake or something? I'd love some expansion.
Apart from the main story, I actually quite enjoyed the background story of Clan Borzoi. These guys are being menaces, you defeat them, and through reading the rumors and dispatch missions, you find out their leader runs away in a boat you helped him with, only for him to come back 4x as evil, bringing fiends and becoming a fucking vampire. It was honestly a joy and a side plot that Did Not need to be there but I loved.
The post game 100% completion judge storyline was fun too. We get more Cid screentime AND we get to fight against the law being shitty and corrupt which you always love to see.
Art
I love this game's art style and direction. The portraits, the way everyone looks, is so fun, it's cartoony and unique. The monster designs are so special yet still recognizably classic. The game itself is really colorful and vibrant which makes it a joy to look at, especially as I can't tear myself away from playing it.
Even the animations just make me really happy to look at, although I recognize part of that is nostalgia. The spells are fun, like the demi squishy circle, or the Illusionist full screen hellfests (Stardust is the best one). Even the summon animations, for being on a GBA game, had that classic FF sense of grandness, power, and being over the top. I love looking at this game.
Music
It's amazing how even through the GBA sounds, this is very recognizably a Sakimoto soundtrack. I can feel that grand feeling that the XII OST gives me in the form of beeps and boops. I don't care what some people say, I love the way the GBA sounds, and I think this game has a very good soundtrack. The title theme lives in my head rent free, as well as the bar theme. Marche's theme is also probably one of my favorites, being a slower piece compared to most of the game.
Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin
See it's funny cause Marche is a stranger in paradise and I'm about to talk about the origins of Final Fantasy
Go play the silly Jack game dammit
I never truly appreciated how FF this game is. I will preface this by saying I Have Not played the original Tactics yet (I should have done it before Advance but childhood experiences win the matchup low diff), so my experiences are mainly second hand, that might affect some of my outlook. But as I was saying, this game feels INCREDIBLY classic Final Fantasy. Between the monsters, the jobs, the colorful nature of the game, the references to previous characters (I saw the four fiends! And Gilgame[sh]!) the fantastical aspects over the more serious political drama, I get the same vibes as the first few FF games, which makes me happy. I honestly feel like this game feels more FF than XII does (I am not saying XII is not an FF game it obviously is).
Speaking of XII, it is INSANE how much Tactics Advance brought to that game, and how little credit I feel the general public attributes to it. Like, This Game Came First. This game created Viera, Bangaa, Nu Mou. This game had Montblanc and Nono. This game had the Giza Plains. This game had monsters like Carrot. This game created Judges! So much of XII's identity is Tactics, and playing through this made me realize that even more of it is still Tactics. We wouldn't have Fran, we wouldn't have Gabranth, without Tactics Advance, and I wish this game got the respect it was due.
Shoutouts to XIV being the only game to acknowledge it in the form of Clan Nutsy. (I'm retroactively mad at Theatrhythm for not doing ANYTHING)
Post Too Long! Red Card: Go To Prison!
I'm so glad I finally got to finish this game, and complete a mission that I've had since I was a kid. I specifically remember giving up on the Llednar -> Mateus combo, and now here I am, 100% completion.
I can absolutely see why I put so much time into this game; it's addicting, and it has so many features and aspects of games that I love put into one package, even if there are bits I could do without.
The game as a whole feels ahead of its time, and even beyond the console it was on, and I hope one day it can get the recognition it deserves, rather than only getting a rerelease on the Wii U. I do recommend any FF fan to play this game. To finish off the post, I would say;
8/10. An absolutely addicting fun time and a key point in the history of my favorite franchise, as well as my own life. It's got some frustrations and imperfections, but it's such a solid experience.

I'm still mulling over things and putting together Thoughts regarding Sigurd's Lore Dump about us and the Origin War, so while I percolate, I thought I'd go about identifying the eight other Servants summoned by the Solar Cell/Heavenly Divinity. Some of them we've seen, others will probably be familiar if you've played FGO and kept up with the JP server, and one is... well. One is QUITE interesting. So, in (almost) order of appearance:
Tumblr media
The Beastmaster: Tezcatlipoca. In charge of the Pyrrhic Forest. We know he's been replaced by Lancer/Setanta.
Tumblr media
The Healer: Asclepius. In charge of the Fugue Hamlet. We set off his defenses by contracting with Rider again and were forced to eliminate him.
Tumblr media
The Slayer: Nagao Kagetora. Was mentioned to have been replaced by Nikitich by Sigurd during the banquet.
Tumblr media
The Keeper: Ptolemy.
Tumblr media
The General: Karna. In charge of Flicker Port. We saw him annihilate Izou during Chapter 2.5.
Tumblr media
The Pharaoh: Ozymandias. In charge of the Transient Megalopolis.
Tumblr media
The Protector: Gawain.
And last but VERY much not least...
Tumblr media
The Priestess: Tamamo no Mae. In charge of Sunbeam Row. Was mentioned to have been replaced by Tamamo Aria by Sigurd during the banquet.
Theurgical Holy Grail War more like the fucking 'Tamamo Everywhere System'. Which makes sense given she seems to have started this whole shebang off in the first place. But if Red Caster and the previous Priestess are one in the same it'd certainly explain a fucking LOT about our encounters with her (including Foreigner calling her a cheater) and how much she knows about us.
So you know. That's fun!!!

Given the existence of the insect glaive and the old concept art of a mount/pet based “Ranger” class I’d love for the new monhun to expand the Blademaster and Gunner archetypes with a Beastmaster category focused on working alongside partner creatures
You could lean into the kinsect even more and have it serve as the light version of the class with the new archaeopteryx mount serving as the heavy version
Obviously any Hunter can use the mount for travel since that seems to be a baked in system, but having a weapon built around fighting alongside it would be awesome
