Suna Kakashi who is known for his electrical nature and his prowess in learning all of the elements. Who quickly becomes knows for learning all if the elements and being a lil shit who likes to steal jutsu scrolls from enemy shinobi when he see’s them

Who grows up beside Baki and happily trains with him, even learning wind style from him and struggling with it the most over any other element.

Who goes to Konoha to fight and finds himself pitted against Kaiyo (friends oc) at one point and Gai at another, and has two really great options for people who he can fall in love with to which Baki will roll his eyes and remind him he should probably find someone in Suna to fall in love with

Sakura had one 'relationship' and that was/is with Aren Uzumaki.

Some backstory:

On their way back from Chiyo's, Saeko, Enji and Sakura were unable to port back in Tea Country- as the civil war came into full effect, and an embargo was placed on all the major ports in an attempt to cripple trade/starve out the big trading cities/ take control of the capital (which was on the coast).

For a few weeks, Sakura and Co. were prisoners on an enemy ship that captured the previous Daimyo's niece, Unami (now heir apparent, given that the rest of her family was murdered).

On their way towards the capital (for a nice public execution), they were boarded by famed Pirate Captain/Smuggler Aren Uzumaki of The Last Sparrow- who took them aboard along with the rest of the spoils.

As the enemy closed all the ports, Sakura realized they would never make it to land for the foreseeable future and offered her services as a healer for the duration of the war in exchange for Saeko, Enji's, and Unami's safety.

Furthermore, Enji helped Unami cut a deal with Aren, in which he was promised legitimacy and exclusive trading contracts with the South under her future rule. Thus, the Last Sparrow became the Command Center for the Civil War for the next eight months.

During that time, Sakura healed, fought, and hassled Aren into teaching her basic strategy, war, and bureaucracy - something the Captain (and Unami) realized she had a good head for. (Sakura would later serve as Unami's consul after the war).

As for Aren, he is extremely intelligent, shrewd, and a powerful fuinjutsu specialist. He's a respected captain and only chose the pirate/smuggler life after the decimation of the Uzumaki clan. When Konoha didn't come to their aid in time during the third war, Aren swore never to be beholden to a shinobi village and took to the seas, denouncing shinobi-hood.

Sakura approached Aren and asked to spend the night with him on the eve of the last battle, and had an on-again, off-again relationship after the war. Aren's first love was the sea, and Sakura never wanted to be second (or third) place in anyone's life ever again, so while they aren't in any official relationship, they do find themselves in each other's arms when they cross paths. (fun fact, Aren calls Sakura 'Wildflower')

When Kankuro was poisoned, The Last Sparrow (legal now!!!) had fortuitously docked at one of Fire Country's port cities. So they could take that to Suna and cut a week off their travel time.

Kakashi was surprised to see that Aren and Sakura knew each other.

He was very unpleasantly surprised to see HOW well they knew each other. He spent a full week seething- as he watched some sleazy Icha-icha knock-off pirate Lothario take advantage of Sakura.

okay so team seven au where the mission to wave runs long. it's not any different in result, it just takes longer to get there. Zabuza and Kakashi stayed in their coma/recovery phases longer, then team seven stayed in wave longer after to let sasuke and kakashi recover from nearly dying, and all this means is that they miss the chuunin exams.

Kakashi thinks it means that they're missing the chuunin exams.

what it actually means is that, on their way back from Wave, they find out that Konoha has been destroyed.

The Suna invasion happened, and there was no Naruto there to talk Gaara out of it. There was no team seven to run interference. The village is gone. It's not just invaded, it's not just been couped, it's rubble. It's dust.

Everyone is dead.

The team is now, by happenstance, missing nin. They have no village to return too, and every member of their team except one is highly desirable with a massive bounty out. (Kakashi the Copy Ninja, Naruto the Jinchuurik, Sasuke the Last Uchiha... and then sakura.)

Naruto wants to go to the village anyways. he feels like he can save someone, they have to at least try, they have to do something. The idea it's too late, there's nothing to be done, is completely impossible for him to understand. he lost his family so young that this is the first time he's lost something he actually remembers having. He's struggling to process the grief, especially without physically seeing the proof of it.

Sasuke gets intensely protective and possessive. Yes, the village is gone- but all of his close bonds are with him and alive. This is a tragedy but it's one he's not directly experiencing for once, and it just reaffirms his fears about how easy it is for people to die. He feels responsible for keeping his teammates alive to an extent that is deeply unhealthy. Especially with how poorly his teammates are handling their grief- he feels like he's the only one prepared for it, the only one approaching the world with realism, the only one capable.

Sakura is experiencing loss for the first time, and nobody is giving her the time or space for it. There's no nice way for her to say "none of you have families, but i did and now i don't", but she's losing her mind about it and

Kakashi was struggling to be a sensei when he had a military state backing him up, and now he's essentially their dad and also they're on the fucking run with nowhere to go. He's responsible for them, for all of them, all of the time, and because they're getting hunted down so he can't just find a nice civilian to hand the kids over to (as if they'd let him, they're all attached like barnacles at this point). That's not even getting into how absolutely impossible it is for him to handle the massive loss they're trying to process, especially since he's really limited in how he can let them deal with it. No Naruto cannot see the bodies to internalize they're dead, no Sakura cannot try to find anything to remember her parents, and no they're not in a position where he can do anything about Sasuke's paranoia except encourage it.

Sakura is dealing with a grief she's never experienced before. She's not getting a lot of leeway, and she's also the one who keeps getting sent out to get them food or supplies from villages because everyone else on her team is wanted. sometimes she thinks about just staying in the little towns they pass through. Her team needs her, but she doesn't feel like she's really part of the team. Certainly doesn't feel like they're supporting her. And every time she goes back to them, things are worse. Maybe she was never meant to be a ninja at all. Maybe she should've been at home with her parents when the invasion happened.

Headcanons and easter eggs after the cut

RasaDai: Is it crack? Yes. Is it impossible? Yes, yes, they’re both dead. Do I still ship them? HELL YES. My old old man yaoi (crack) rarepair. Rasa inherits the nearly bankrupt firm from his deceased bastard of a father, and had to devote his whole life to work. He loses Karura after she gives birth to Gaara, and now he’s a single dad whose grown up kids hate his guts. Can this old man still find love with an older DILF? Except he’s definitely not going to wear that green tracksuit. (also that’s Suna designer wear on Rasa and Pakkun’s carrier)

KakaGai: These boys. These men. Husbands, rivals, friends, eternal loves. Kakashi with his jorts and baby pink crocs 😂 (thanks @urieskooki for the color pick) with ANBU gibbets. Gai with Daytime Tiger-inspired shoes! I love having Bisuke perching on Gai and adopting his sparkles ✨. Kakashi giving Gai the ‘I’m pinning you down later’ look. Also, if you really want to know what Kakashi’s reading, check the tags. ;)

GaaLee: My loves, my babies 🥰 Okay I gave Gaara his Shippuden pants bands and his shoes are gourd inspired. He’s excited to finally get to hold a puppy and promptly carries the meanest-looking one (Urushi, surprised, gives a tentative tail wag). In the meantime, Lee has their snacks and drinks ready ❤️ The man is smitten with Gaara. He is composing love songs for him as we speak. He’s also rocking dragon-print kicks (I used my own dragon design from the CNY card).

The Ninken: Ok some headcanons. All the dogs were adopted by Kakashi, except for Pakkun who was his dad’s pet before he died. Pakkun prefers to ride in his carrier than to walk in his older years. Akino, being partially blind, sticks close to his emotional support dog (Pakkun). Shiba is giving puppy eyes to Rasa in case he can get pets. Guruko being a naughty baby running between people’s legs. Bull is just chilling with his new collar—Kakashi replaced the spikes with pompoms for comfort. Uhei likes Lee best and stays close to him.

Good Memories, Yours and Mine

A little illustrated drabble for @kakashiweek Rating: G Day 4: Any AU. Post-war. Obito could tell getting used to this version of him wasn’t an easy task for Kakashi, but their awkward attempts at being friendly seemed like a good start. Twice they’d found common ground, and twice it had ended in parting soon after; if not for the Sage’s mercy and jutsu mastery, they wouldn’t be strolling the streets of Suna now, during a small break between court sessions. Getting in sync had felt natural in the midst of battle, but getting along in the thick mire of post-war stagnation turned out to be way more difficult.

Frankly, Obito still barely recognized himself; self-restoration was a work in progress. He hadn’t associated what he saw in the mirror with “Uchiha Obito” for a good deal of years, but now he sometimes absently wondered if his real self could still be seen through the battle-weary shell of his body or the grim lines on his face. Only the eyes seemed the same – dark, restless, and brooding, the Sharingan sealed away.

But apparently grannies could sense something regardless. They’d always clung to the lively boy he’d been, and when an old lady tugged at his sleeve and asked if he could carry her enormous suitcase up a flight of stairs (which were abundant in Suna), Obito got lost in the feeling of déjà-vu. It took him a few moments to process her words, and then he silently fulfilled the request under Kakashi’s amused stare. He knew one thing for sure: grannies’ intuition never lies. If that Suna lady approached him, then perhaps he did have something of the former Obito in his aura again; a tiny flicker of warmth only a perceptive person could notice.

“There was a time when I couldn’t stand your granny-related excuses. But now they’re good memories,” Kakashi commented with a lilt in his voice when Obito returned. “But I… I didn’t leave you any good memories, did I? If I did, it might have…”

Obito sighed. “You probably did,” he admitted quietly, “but they were few. Very few. And poisoned by what – what followed later…” It was a precipice they’d been hovering on for quite a while but couldn’t jump into just yet, so he made a mental step back and clutched onto a tiny vision that twinkled like a firefly in the dark mess of his mind. “Oh! Remember the day when you helped me with granny Hiroko’s errand? You were so nervous we’d be late for some stupid team training with some stupid invited specialists that you sank to my level just to make sure I’d be on time.”

“Uhuh. We ended up being late together anyway, only appearing after they’d left. An unforgettable event,” came the light-hearted response, and then Kakashi giggled. It was the strangest sound in the universe.

“‘Criminally negligent irresponsibility in time of war,’” Obito quoted Sandaime’s words mockingly. “For once I wasn’t the only one being scolded. And you actually enjoyed running that errand with me – don’t tell me you didn’t. You didn’t even chastise me after. And maybe you even snickered under that mask of yours when Sensei, pale and fidgety, tried his best to explain your ‘degradation’ and my bad influence on you to his superiors.”

“True, I was smiling,” Kakashi let out slowly, lost in the memory. “Their faces were funny.”

“Took you a long time to admit it.”

“Took me a long time to change.” He hummed and closed his eyes in delight. “Besides, granny Hiroko’s eggplants were tasty.”

Obito couldn’t help but chuckle. “Oh, really?” They had been ninja, and fighters, and soldiers, but sometimes they had been just kids.

Every season they play for the Kaguya Cup, named after the mother of ice hockey who invented it eons ago with two sons on her hip ! Yeah sure we’ll go with that….

I present to you the Original FIVE: the Kumo Cloud, the Iwa Quake, the Kiri Mist Wraiths, the Suna Dust Devils, and the Konoha Leafs !! Sorry to actual Leafs fans but I thought about this for much longer than I want to admit and there is no other name that makes sense here. I just think they’re fun <3 (SO many translatable motifs and ideas and I can’t include them all here)

3-man units EASILY become lines. I thought about this and yeah . Yeah. Team 7 is still comprised of Naruto-Sakura-Sasuke OBVIOUSLY . there is no gender segregation in this AU because i chose joy and fun when dreaming it up. also they all wore 7 in juniors. 777. 7-UP line LMAO. jackpot line? Team 7. haven’t decided.

Naruto quick facts: winger, wears the C (eventually) undrafted in his first eligible year, taken 111th overall in his second (he was a late bloomer + canon-compliant asshole child era meant nobody wanted his ass!! Konoha took a chance on him!). Wore #7 he wears #1 because of his draft position and because he’s gonna be the best player EVER. <3 He thinks he’s normal about Sasuke (he is not)

Sasuke notes: winger, wears an A. went 1st overall. No weaknesses … the Perfect player ! except he is Not his brother Itachi who ALSO went 1st overall about 10 years ago. the world wont let him forget it . Itachi is now retired for medical reasons but works in hockey as a scout, but the comparisons haunt our little man… </3 Sasuke’s D+1 year he wasn’t ready for the ENHL and everyone started calling him a bust because he got sent down!! SAD!!!! Wears #77 as a Leaf because they all agreed it would be fair no one should have #7. Trade rumours to the Oto Thunder every season like clockwork because Orochimaru, Oto’s GM, originally tanked to get Sasuke in the draft and FAILED…!

Sidebar i believe in my heart that Naruto and Sasuke played for rival juniors teams; the Uzushio Tempest and the Uchiwa Flames…… let me cook here alright,.. i just think they developed an intense fixation on each other and got thrown out of games for fighting ! Ironically this rivalry unlocked their potential and they were in a heated scoring race thru the entire season…..

Sakura: undisputed center and the bus driver of this line!!! wears the other A! Drafted 7OA and everyone was mad about it because they wanted someone else. Wore #7 through juniors to spite them !! Currently wears #16 just like her hero Tsunade <3 Tactical mind, not naturally talented but worked hard for everything she has, an extremely effective playmaker… I think she is built like a tank… terrifying power forward Sakura…………….

They play for the Konoha Leafs obviously...! Theyre the cringefail girlies for about 2 years once they make it to the ENHL, godbless . Lots of individual flashes of brilliance but no long-term success and zero team cohesion as they are shuffled around. Naruto and Sasuke both have a go at being center but they both Suck at anchoring a line like that.. they aint made that way (to ME!!!) Konoha Leafs on the verge of collapse and wasting another 5-7 yrs of being mediocre. Then one day coach Kakashi decides ‘Hm. Maybe. i will make Sakura play with these two assholes.’ And the rest is history!!!!!!

Listen I just think she would corral their worst impulses and keep them in line…. I feel like she’s a very responsible and smart 2-way player and balances Naruto and Sasuke’s heavy offence out. They get really dangerous the moment they settle into their roles. 777. JACKPOT!!!!!!

Various team mascots are the tailed beasts? <3 I just think it would be neat….!

DESIGN NOTES

In-universe, the above design is a 3rd jersey nodding towards Konoha's heritage. Prior to becoming the Leafs in the ENHL, they were the Demon Foxes!

WHY did i choose a third jersey…? This idea popped into my head when i heard rumours the ducks were leaning into their orange county ties in the rebrand and i thought ouuuhh you know what would fuck severely… naruto x ducks brand collaboration…… oramnge…. I love orange <3

Anyway Naruto had his heart set on being a goalie before tragically being moved to forward (the skaters …they YEARN for the pipes!!!!) so he wraps his stick in that insane goalie knob style <3 Where did you get that red and blue tape from Naruto…. C’mon now don’t be shy …

Blade is orange taped bc Naruto loves orange so bad. There are various ideas about white sticks/white tape being harder to see against the ice and i think he’d like the idea of taping his blade orange bc the doesn’t need that competitive advantage lol

Konoha home jerseys are green/brown/white/red/blue (think something closer to the Jounin flak jackets) More on them later mayhaps…

Out of universe, I based the colours and design elements largely off Naruto’s outfits over the series. The black and orange is a nod to his first outfit in Shippuden — note the black on his shoulders cutting across his chest and the shape language of the piping on the abdomen.

The red piping is because reaaaalllly wanted to add his Hokage robe flames but i tried it and thought it looked lame as HELL . So i suppose we will save that for a specialty jersey somewhere down the line (many thoughts… many many thoughts….)

The blue/white/red on his skates, sleeves, and gloves is an homage to the Uchiha, who had a hand in founding the team + have people within the org. I imagine the Uchiha clan as this, idk, juggernaut of hockey dynasties…!! A finger in every possible pie. Maybe they have partial ownership of the team. They do equipment manufacturing (gloves, skates, tape!), PR, scouting… everything!!!

Shoulder patches are Uzushio’s whirlpool insignia.

The ribbed neck guard is a reference to Naruto’s first jumpsuit design. He definitely thinks he doesn’t need a neck guard until Sasuke mentions that they’re kind of cool — a blatant manipulation to get Naruto to wear one. <- they are unwell about each other you see

Naruto tapes his hockey socks different every time for good luck. someone said variety is the spice of life and then he heard somewhere else that spicy foods promote longevity and his wires got crossed and now he thinks of variance = spice = a long playing career.

Hi! I've just gotten into naruto and I was wondering if you have an fic recommendations based in other villages?

OKAY hi yes. meant to answer this yesterday, oops. Welcome! while currently I am writing and reading in a more DC-focused direction, I definitely still have a lot of Naruto fic recs. because i'm not sure exactly what you're looking for in terms of genre or content, some of these vary widely and might not be what you're after. so! here's some stuff from my AO3 bookmarks. (you do have to be a registered user to read some of these.)

The One Where An OC Moves In With Kakuzu by Tozette is about 10k words and takes place in Ame. it's pretty straightforward, a little cracky, and very enjoyable. this author has a very good grip on Kakuzu's characterization, i highly recommend everything else they've written as well.

a study in demons by saintbedo is 2k words and technically takes place in Kiri. it's a short and bittersweet character study of zabuza.

he wants to be tender and merciful by nithenoel is 40k. it's a time travel fic with Gaara. it's been a long time since I read this one, but i'm certain that at least the majority of it takes place in Suna, if not all of it. i'm a sucker for Gaara-centric stuff, and this fic is all about him trying to repair his relationship with his siblings.

look twice by tciddaemina is about 9k, a soulmate fic with itachi/kisame pre-canon. it's from kisame's perspective, so at least the first part is in Kiri.

denizens of the sands of time by CherShare is 42k, another time travel fic with Gaara but to the Warring States period or directly after the formation of Konoha, i forget. iirc Gaara sort of starts building his own village and adjudicates for the wandering desert clans and stuff, so... technically takes place in early early early Suna? it's tagged Tobirama/Gaara.

To Stay the Tides by TheDroidsYoureLookingFor is 126k and the majority takes place in the Land of Waves. SI-OC and soulmate AU, i think the main pairing is the OC and Kisame. I don't remember how many canon characters come into play here, i think there's a lot of OCs and worldbuilding with Wave and Uzushio and stuff.

I Never Sharpened My Teeth by DrDiabolical is 25k and probably darker than most of the other stuff on this list. it's young Kakashi-centric, in a world where he gets kidnapped to Kiri and experimented on. mind the tags and rating; it's explicit and a lot of stuff happens. But as far as i remember the author tags accurately and clearly.

Steam by Ornery Otter is 62k and it's only on this list because of how much i enjoy it. it's an SI-OC from Yugakure, but only the first few chapters take place in Yu. so this one is maybe disqualified. but i like it a lot so :p

Plasticity by Mixelation is 177k and again, maybe doesn't count? but it's another fic near and dear to my heart. SI-OC gets kidnapped by the Akatsuki, so some of the fic takes place in Ame. this is another author that just writes bangers, and has a killer (ha) grasp on Akatsuki characterizations. i'd recommend pretty much everything they've written too. (there are also nearly endless AUs and spinoffs of this AU that you can find on Mixelation's tumblr, increasing in whackiness and fun as they go).

I have a new sasusaku au idea.

So say after the third shinobi war, Leaf and Sand made a peace agreement via arranged marriage. The sand would provide a relative of the Kazakage's family to be a bride for one of the head families of Konoha's clans.

The Uchiha clan was chosen to receive the bride. It wasn't decided yet if she would wed Itachi or Sasuke but she would be for one of them.

As for the bride herself, there was a debate to send the Kazakage's daughter Temari, but then Suna's council remembered that Karura had a sister who had a daughter.

Sakura knew her whole life that she would eventually be sent to Konoha as a peace bride. Her childhood was kinda lonely because of it. Suna's council started her ninja training young because they knew the Uchiah's were a ninja clan by trade and that they value strength. They gave her to Lady Chiyo to train. Sakura never really took to puppetry, not like Kankuro, but she did excell under Lady Chiyo's posion teachings and beginner medical training.

When Sakura wasn't with Lady Chiyo, she was with her cousins. She was closest to Gaara since both of them were being raised to be used in service to the village (Gaara as a weapon and Sakura as a peace offering) which left them both pretty isolated as children. This isolation also left Sakura a little oblivious to the village's fear of her favorite cousin. All she knew was that Gaara was a sweet boy who just needed some extra training to control his powers. Yes, she did know that Gaara had Shukaku in him and sometimes he lost control of his powers, but like most kids, she doesn't fully understand what that means.

Sakura and Gaara's relationship took a hit when their uncle, Yashamaru, tried to kill Gaara and then proceeded to blow himself up. Gone was the sweet boy who wanted to love and be loved. Gaara was now colder, and while Sakura still cared greatly for her cousin, it felt like he only tolerated her now. She was still one of his closest relationships, along with his siblings.

When Sakura was twelve, she was given two items. The first was a chain with a ring on it. The ring was silver with a red jewel. Purple chakra swirled in the jewel. The second item was a headband with Konoha's symbol on it.

It was time for her to go to the Leaf Village.

On Konoha's side after the Uchiha massacre the council looked for ways to keep Sasuke in line. They remembered the deal with Suna and made the arrangements to officially betrothed Sasuke and Sakura. Not that they told him.

The deal was that once Sasuke graduated from the Academy, they would bring Sakura to the village and assign her to his genin team. Kakashi about damn near had heart failure when his third student was escorted in with two Sand anbu behind her. Gai had to console him later.

Sakura looked around curiously at everything as she followed Kakashi to meet her other teammates. There was a lot more color in Konoha than Suna, especially the color green. Her teacher was curious, too. He introduced himself as Kakashi Hatake. Hmm, the only Hatake Sakura knew about was the White Fang Sakumo, and Lady Chiyo wanted him dead. She wonders if Kakashi is related.

Sakura is behind Kakashi when he opens the door to a classroom and an erasure falls on his head. A loud laugh was heard from the inside. Was that her betrothed or her other teammate?

"That's what you get for being late!" The voice shouted.

We're they late? Sakura winced. That was probably her fault. Kakashi did have to get her from the Hokage's tower.

Kakashi only humed as he stepped into the room, Sakura following behind. Two boys turned their stares from their sensei to her. She scanned them, one was a blonde with whisker like marks on his face, the other had black hair and eyes. While she couldn't verify via the Uchiah symbol, Sakura had to guess the dark eyed boy was her betrothed Sasuke. She was told the Uchiah's typically had darker features.

Kakashi humed again. "My first impress of you three, I hate all of you."

Well damn, that's not good. Sakura needs allies if she's gonna survive here and make sure to maintain the peace agreement. Having her sensei hate her right off the bat doesn't bode well for her.

They're led up to the roof where Kakashi has them introduce themselves, not that he offered up much info.

The blonde boy started. "My name is Naruto Uzumaki! I like ramen, especially the ramen at Ichiraku! But I hate having to wait the three minutes for it to cook. And my dream is to be the greatest Hokage!"

Well, he was energetic. But this did confirm Sakura's suspicions.

Sasuke spoke next. "My name is Sasuke Uchiah. I dislike a lot of things, and I don't particularly like anyone. I don't have a dream because I will make it a reality. I will restore my clan and kill a certain someone."

Oh, well, there's some familiarity of home with her betrothed. At least she'll have some knowledge on how to approach her betrothed thanks to Gaara.

The boys turned towards her and Kakashi tilted his head. We'll go on.

Sakura blushed. Oh, right. "I'm Sakura Haruno. What I like, I mean, um-" Damn her accent slipped, and after her tutors worked so hard to make sure it was perfect. "I like studying. . ." Can't say posions, won't look good since she's suppsed to be a peace offering. ". . .medical plants and the effect they have on the body. My dislikes are um. . ." What was safe to say? She didn't get a chance to study her teammates before, and there wasn't much info her anbu escorts gave her either.

Kakashi seemed to take pity on her. "And your dream for the future?"

That was easy. "To maintain the peace and alliance between Konoha and Suna."

"How come we've never seen you before?" Naruto asked her.

The boys looked at her confused. Sakura looked at Sasuke confused. Why was he confused? He's the other half to making this peace agreement work.

Kakashi cleared his throat. "Sakura is from another village, but she has been put on this team as part of an alliance agreement. Now for tomorrow we'll have our first mission."

Sakura tensed as Kakashi explained that of the graduates only nine ever make it to genin and the rest are sent back to the academy. What does that mean for her? Would she be sent back to Suna? That can't happen, not if they want to peace agreement to work out, she can't fail this!

Sakura went to speak with Sasuke after they were dismissed. She knows they officially just met but they did need to talk about their engagement. Kakashi pulled them both back.

Kakashi pulled a silver ring on a chain out of his pocket. Sakura knew that ring. It was the matching ring to the one she wore around her neck, except it had her chakra in it instead of Sasuke's. Why would Kakashi have it?

Kakashi handed the chain to Sasuke. "Did your parents ever tell you about your engagement?"

Sasuke's face fell into a scowl. "What?"

Sakura began to grow mortified.

"The alliance agreement between Konoha and Suna was sealed with an arranged marriage between the Uchiha clan and a relative of Suna's leader, the Kazekage," Kakashi explained. "Sakura is the Kazakage's niece, and per the agreement, you two will be living together from this point on."

Sasuke turned his glare on to Sakura. Sakura was thankful she gotten used to Gaara's glares.

A shinobi must always be prepped to die for their village.

               For years Kakashi had listened to Rasa repeat those words to him before every mission. He’d committed them to memory, reminding himself of them whenever he was faced with a foe that was more powerful than him.

               Even when he didn’t want to die, Kakashi was prepared to forfeit his life for the village, just as he was taught to do. Just as any shinobi should be willing to do. Those words had become even more important to him when Rasa’s body was discovered just outside of Suna’s wall’s decaying under the blazing sun.

Then, just a few hours ago while he was on his way back from a visit to Konoha, Gaara was kidnapped from the village and Kakashi was faced with a choice he never thought he would have to make.

To stay and protect his village as the Kazekage, or to chase after the kidnappers in a desperate attempt to save Gaara.

Without a moments hesitation, he chose Gaara and left the village in Baki’s care.

With Kankuro in the hospital fighting for his life against a poison that their doctor’s didn’t understand, and Temari still out of the village, there was no other option really. Kakashi was the only one who had any chance at saving Gaara.

               All his life Kakashi had been prepared to die to protect Suna, but now it wasn’t the village he was putting his life on the line for. He’d left behind Rasa’s teachings as soon as he heard the situation, and made a choice that could only be described as selfish.

               He’d chosen Gaara.

He just hadn’t prepared himself to face off against an old friend when he’d made that choice.

“I’ll deal with him,” Sasori’s voice stabbed right through his heart, awakening memories that he had tried to bury years ago. “Get the Jinchuriki to the hide out.” “On it!” His partner grinned, sparring a glance Kakashi’s way. “Try not to take too long.” With that, he was gone. Flying off with Gaara hanging from the mouth of his giant, ugly bird. Rage boiled inside of Kakashi’s heart. A feeling he hadn’t allowed himself to express since he was a child, and which was now directed at someone he had once dared to call a friend. Someone he had admired when he was younger and far more naive. “Bring him back.” He growled as lightning arched between his fingers. Sasori simply stood there staring at him from behind the wooden mask of the puppet he wore. “Or what? You’ll kill me?” Extending out from his fingers, lighting began to fill the area around Kakashi. An extension of his anger, sparks licking the air as he dug his heels into the ground. “Give him back,” he repeated. “Or I’ll tear you limb from limb and leave your corps out for the vultures.” Laughter was the response he received. A low, bitter laughter that sent chill’s through his bones. “You’ll die trying.” “If that’s that case,” he focused his lightning into the souls of his feet and lowered himself into a charging stance. “Then  so be it!” Die trying.

Kakashi had accepted his fate when he chose to face off against Sasori. Even though he was confident that he had grown stronger than the other man, strength didn’t always matter when fighting someone who could kill you with a single scratch, and that was exactly what Sasori had achieved.

One tiny scratch across Kakashi’s cheek. A wound that Kakashi had sustained while delivering his final blow straight through Sasori’s heart.

Two steps.

He’d managed to take two steps away from Sasori’s broken body before the poison began to take affect. First it sapped him of what little energy he had left after the fight, and then it attacked his muscles.

His knees gave out from under him, sending him crashing into the sand just a few inches away from where Sasori’s body lay.

The last thing he saw as his eyes slid shut was Sasori’s face, as young and untouched by the world as the day he’d left Suna.

The face of a friend turned enemy.

“I’m sorry.” he whispered into the air, unsure if he was speaking to Sasori’s wooden corpse or to the brother he had failed to save.

“Boss?” Pakkun’s voice called out to him, but Kakashi didn’t move. ‘Hey, Boss. Help’s on the way. Just hold on.”

Kakashi wanted to laugh, but he was to weak to find the minuscule amount of energy required to do so. For two years he had Pakkun by his side, his favorite of the hound summons that the Hokage-

No, his father, had given him.

It was Pakkun who had led him to Sasori using the piece of fabric Kakashi had found clutched in Kankuro’s hand, and it would be Pakkun who stood at his side as he drew his last breath.

Somehow it all felt so fitting. After years of growing up without a father, Kakashi’s last moment’s would be spent beside the gift his father had given him. It may not have been Hatake Sakumo himself, but it was close enough.

“Boss…”

Kakashi wanted to reach out and pat Pakkun’s head. To comfort him with a small gesture.

“Gaara,” he muttered, his throat burning with every breath he took. “Get back- Suna- find

“I’m not leaving you,” Pakkun insisted. “we’re going back to Suna together, got it?”

Positivity.

Even now Kakashi struggled to understand it, but he found that in this moment he appreciated it. Even if he knew things wouldn’t work out the way Pakkun said, it was nice to dream.

To forget about all of his training for just a few precious seconds and pretend that things would be alright.

That he would be alright.

“Kaiyo,” he spoke again, his voice a little gravellier than usual. “Tell Kaiyo-“ Words failed him at that moment. Both because of the sheer exhaustion of having his body attacked by a deadly poison and because he didn’t know exactly what it was he wanted to say. He wasn’t even sure why Kaiyo had come to mind at that moment when he needed to worry about Gaara and Kankuro.

Why was it that he was suddenly seeing her face hovering in front of her or hearing her voice calling out to him ad though she was right there with him.

His heart ached at the thought. The last thing he wanted Kaiyo to see was him slowly dying in front of her. Then she might never smile again, and he so loved her smile.

The way her lips curled up, creating little dimples in her cheeks. How she would always wink at him as if that moment of happiness was a secret to be kept just between the two of them. A precious moment that no one else could know about.

“Kaiyo,” he throat burned, but he forced her name out as her voice grew louder in his ears. “I-“

“Kakashi,” she sounded like she was right beside him now, voice dripping with panic as she called out to him. “You idiot.”

“I…I think-“Feeling the pull of unconsciousness tugging at him, he forced his eyes open for one final, precious second and gazed at the beautiful face he enjoyed staring at whenever she travelled from Konoha to see him. “I think I might…love you.”

Basically, the premise is that Gaara faints during their fight due to a combination of Lee crushing his ribcage with a kick and the sight of his own blood, letting Shukaku take over. Lee gets injured, but not as profoundly as in canon. The "4th Kazekage" (Orochimaru in disguise) declares they have to kill Gaara, but Gai intervenes and Kakashi becomes suspicious when he recalls that Gaara is the Kazekage's son. Matters get even more suspicious when Orochi-kage isn't able to use the magnet release to subdue Gaara. The invasion gets stymied as a result. With a joint cooperative effort from multiple nations' worth of shinobi, Gaara is eventually taken down - severely injured, but not dead. Some experts are able to stabilize his seal a bit, but not quite permanently and to excruciating pain.

And while jinchuuriki do have healing powers, the powers are imprecise and basically just focused on keeping the vessel alive. Gaara recuperates in the hospital in Konoha, after undergoing - under great risk & extensive seal work - a surgery that removes several dead organs from his body and reconstructs his ribcage. Lee visits him from time to time. Ultimately he is told that he will no longer be able to fight (in his mind - protect himself & assert his existence), so he throws himself off the roof of the hospital. The sand catches him, of course.

Suna attempts to transfer Shukaku to Kankuro, but the sealing fails because Shukaku insists on staying bound to Gaara.

Years later, both of their paths have been utterly altered: Lee remains a taijutsu specialist but has become a special jounin with a focus on assisting wounded shinobi through rehab and physical therapy. Gaara has become an avid gardener and agricultural scientist, though severely limited by his physical disabilities. In addition Temari has become Kazekage and is constantly dodging assassination attempts by the Council, who consider her a traitor's daughter. There are several attempts to marry her off to control her, one she almost goes through with until Kankuro walks into the council chambers and announces his intentions to kill Temari's intended and his family, at the risk of war.

Lee and Gaara stay in touch by mail, though Gaara's mental health is perhaps as poor as his physical health, and he spends much of his time researching a seal that wil lock Shukaku away for good. The story is mainly epistolary from here.

Ultimately, Lee and Gaara reunite in Suna when Lee is dispatched as support on a mission, realize that the feelings that have been growing between them are more than a lasting friendship, and ... well, you can probably guess the rest :)

Anyway, this fic is SO SO plotty, so I will probably never write it, but it's fun to think about sometimes!

GAALEE PARENT TRAP AU "Marry me"

"What did you just said?!" Lee screamed covering his mouth when he realiced.

"We are getting married in the five nations peace cruise next month" he says as calm as he say it the first time. "We can make the arrengements with Kakashi. Unless, you... do not want to?"

To be honest when Rock Lee said i will marry you in any place at any time even right here and right now an event so important as THE event of the year, he would even dare to said of the decade, didn't crossed his mind for a second. But it didn't stop him from feeling light headed, warm spreading in his cheeks and butterflies filling his stomach.

"Of course i want to marry you! I won't step out of my word to you" he murmurs reminding himself that they are still here, in the cementery afterhours. He's been waiting here, like the first plan was. He looked at the gray plate above the grass. Just Neji as or witness for our vows, blood instead of rings because nobody should know and a passioned night at his place, so Gaara could pack his things and make his way back to Suna. "It's just that when you told me about mantaening the secrecy of our nuptial, doing it in a place with the most important people of all five nations was not in my list"

"It's not like they are invited anyway" Gaara expressed while crossing his arms.

Lee frowned in confussion "i don't follow..."

"We'll have our own wedding in the cruise while the rest of the guests are at the party" he kept explaining "in the middle of the celebration we'll slipt away for a few moments, get married and go back to the event without anybody noticing. Everybody would be so drunk not even the council nor the rest of people there could guess what just happened" a little smirked scape from the corner of his lips, that for anybody else would look like a grimace, but for Lee wasn't.

"Hmm, i don't know. I think you'll enjoy more the fact that you're doing it just under their noses than us ACTUALLY getting married" Lee joked while taking his lovers hands to pull him closer.

"It would only be a plus to it" exhaled. While remembered the words of Temari when he told her about his plan. Of course their families where the only ones that will know, eventually, right now just Temari. You imprudent rugrat! you maybe wear the hat of the Kazekage but you are still act like a child! No. Not that. Marriage is something you enjoy in a unique special way. No, im not talking about sex! Is a promise! to both of you and your families, that you'll be by each other side for the rest of your lifes taking care of what you'll built. So...are you gonna make it right?

....Or are you gonna do the Uchiha way? He squirmed at the mere thought. Right, he's gonna make it right, Lee deserved that. He squized Lee's hands for comfort "...One Day Suna will know the name of my husband, i'll prepare everything for that. But for now I wanna give you a wedding we and our families wont forget."

"Our families..." Lee's eyes went wide and shine as the moon above them. He won't leave his family for you, he will make you part of his.

"It'll mark a new beginning for the world and for us. Marry me" told him almost begging while getting closer to the tearing face of the leaf shinobi.

"Yes" Lee smiled.

"Remember, Metal, no weapons!" "Yes, Papa!" but seal rolls are not weapons

"Shit kiddo, we are gonna be late!" "I literally can teleport us there, uncle"

Akatsuki Rin Anon!

I'd like to think that initially she would be too griefstricken. But then around the same time that Danzo drafts Kakashi into root/ sows seeds of there being something more to the attack- Rin starts to feel the full frontal assault of Kushina and Minato not being there to protect her anymore.

By the time Kakashi has met Tenzo, Rin starts piecing together a scene of what may have gone wrong that night and even before during team Minato's missions- approaching all sorts of unsavory crowds and places in her quest for answers- as much as she can. Being drafted into root in the process.

And about the time the entire rescue Tenzo, and capture Orochimaru debacle goes down, she had been in Ame- but she actually goes against Root- saving Nagato and Konan. Because much like Kakashi she was also taught to not ignore what is right when she has the power to correct it. This makes her Danzo's enemy- she is thankfully not murdered because she becomes to Ame what Naruto became to Suna.

She approaches Sarutobi with her warnings, is dismissed, removed from root with Danzo being given a warning and then put on an even tighter surveillance because she had been seen talking to the snake sannin.

Rin plays along because she can't leave Naruto behind. She won't. It burns that she isn't able to take care of him or be in contact- even though she understands the reasoning. (Doesn't stop her from being mad and feeling betrayed at Kakashi and Obito for running away in their grief, and leaving both her and Naruto alone and behind). Anonymity is protection. That reasoning meets a swift and violent death when Naruto is sent to live on his own and barely a week later his Jinchuuriki status is leaked. Rin has seen and lived through enough, she knows how this song and dance would go. Had already been forced to live with it once before Minato became Hokage. Had lived through and heard accounts of the ostracisation and hate thrown towards Sakumo, Kakashi, Obito and Kushina. But unlike Naruto's case where the entire village was made aware, her status and Kushina's status had only been known among the very higher ups, And a few among her sensei's generation.

This village seems determined to kill everyone she holds dear. Whether it be in body, mind, spirit or all. She won't let them kill Naruto as well.

Keeping in mind how much more reckless Danzo has gotten in his attempts to assasinate her, the information she has collected over the years, what she learnt from Obito and Orochimaru, Sarutobi's dismissal and Danzo's interest in Naruto... she just takes Naruto and gets the hell out.

Oh and Obito is acting as a temporary peace figure among the Uchiha and Senju factions because of his wood release and everything. He actually played a major role in sucking away the tailed beast bomb while Minato was busy fighting Madara or whoever. So Uchiha didn't get as much flak. Obito is unaware that he has a puppet seal on him.... And that there is a white Zetsu clone on him and that black Zetsu is keeping tabs on him...

What I am saying is Obito may have been literally used as a puppet in some instances and is blissfully unaware of this ... for now. The only reason he is being allowed to stay in Konoha is a) to collect information b) as a unknowing spy c) to plant a white Zetsu mole and lastly to set the board to arrange the ultimate heartbreak that would be needed to make him willingly go along with Madara's plans. Which means yes- Kakashi is being targetted but Kakashi is also obnoxiously good at surviving the impossible so he is fine and that part isn't something to worry about for now.

Every single one? I'm waiting for those "this is bad and you should feel bad" with everything I write. Especially with my Gai centric/rare pair stories. I want to do right by the characters and I want to make sure they are right (and good). I don't want to miss something.

Mago was a story I reluctantly posted. I wrote this story and held on to the finished work for years. I 'wanted' to post but also was very scared. Between the OC and talk of depression/suicide...I wanted to keep both sakumo and Hoshi safe.

But you, tea, might be thinking of that one story that hasn't been posted. And it will remain unposted.

The world isn't ready for it. And I'm not ready to post it.

Kakashi is a recovering drug user. This is a scene that was removed for a few reasons, but I liked it.

Kakashi starts relapsing and searches for Sakura, but she's away in Suna. He ends up finding Sasuke, who helps him out.

Kakashi forced himself to breath through his nose as his entire body pulsed. “Your eye…it can do something for this? Yeah?” Everything hurt. Everything. 

Kakashi lifted his head, watching Uchiha move around his kitchen with easy, preparing tea. It was weird.

“You did this to yourself?” It wasn’t really a question. Kakashi didn’t answer. Uchiha didn’t need one. “No.” It was like a nail in his coffin. Uchiha glanced up at him. “You must know the pain.”

Part of Kakashi knew this and the other half wanted to punch Uchiha. To take his sword and ram it through his gut. To take that tea cup and throw scalding tea at him and then bludgeon him with the tea kettle. Even though he knew the other man could easily take him down.

Anger and rage built up in Kakashi’s gut as Uchiha sat down at his kotatsu and carefully made tea.

“How long?” Uchiha asked after a few minutes. Kakashi was silent. His body pulsing painfully.

There was a heavy rap on Sakura’s bedroom window. She bolted out of bed. She tumbled sluggishly out of bed, spinning around almost drunkenly before she realized where the sound was coming from.

The green glow of the window. Silhouetted was Naruto with a slightly panicked look on his face. Moved quickly to the window, stopping when she eyed the clock on her night stand.

3:23 a.m.

“Naruto-” She opened the window, “What in the hell-”

“RememberwhenItoldyouI’dshowyoutheuniverse?” He said quickly, lowly, not taking a breath as he grabbed her arms and roughly pulled her down. “Now. We go now.” His voice almost absorbed by a low hum.

Sakura pulled back, mainly so he didn’t try to pull her through the window pane. “Naruto-”

“Sakura, we have to go.” He came through the window and grabbed her by the waist. The sound was getting louder and the green lights started to flash.

“What’s...what’s going on?” She slithered out of her window into the dry mulch. She looked around. The neighborhood looked like it did most nights, except for the loud hum and the green, and now blue lights, flashing wildly.

“The planet is being invaded and we have to leave now.” Naruto roughly grabbed her arm and started to drag her towards his house.

“Invaded?” Sakura tripped over a rock, almost crashing down. Naruto didn’t stop. “Invaded by what?”

It was then that giant fireballs started falling from the sky.

Naruto stopped and looked up to the sky. “The Akatsuki.” They stood there, frozen as the fireballs became more numerous.
