Gonna bundle these two questions! (ALSO SPICY AT THE BOTTOM)
Sakura had one 'relationship' and that was/is with Aren Uzumaki.
Some backstory:
On their way back from Chiyo's, Saeko, Enji and Sakura were unable to port back in Tea Country- as the civil war came into full effect, and an embargo was placed on all the major ports in an attempt to cripple trade/starve out the big trading cities/ take control of the capital (which was on the coast).
For a few weeks, Sakura and Co. were prisoners on an enemy ship that captured the previous Daimyo's niece, Unami (now heir apparent, given that the rest of her family was murdered).
On their way towards the capital (for a nice public execution), they were boarded by famed Pirate Captain/Smuggler Aren Uzumaki of The Last Sparrow- who took them aboard along with the rest of the spoils.
As the enemy closed all the ports, Sakura realized they would never make it to land for the foreseeable future and offered her services as a healer for the duration of the war in exchange for Saeko, Enji's, and Unami's safety.
Furthermore, Enji helped Unami cut a deal with Aren, in which he was promised legitimacy and exclusive trading contracts with the South under her future rule. Thus, the Last Sparrow became the Command Center for the Civil War for the next eight months.
During that time, Sakura healed, fought, and hassled Aren into teaching her basic strategy, war, and bureaucracy - something the Captain (and Unami) realized she had a good head for. (Sakura would later serve as Unami's consul after the war).
As for Aren, he is extremely intelligent, shrewd, and a powerful fuinjutsu specialist. He's a respected captain and only chose the pirate/smuggler life after the decimation of the Uzumaki clan. When Konoha didn't come to their aid in time during the third war, Aren swore never to be beholden to a shinobi village and took to the seas, denouncing shinobi-hood.
Sakura approached Aren and asked to spend the night with him on the eve of the last battle, and had an on-again, off-again relationship after the war. Aren's first love was the sea, and Sakura never wanted to be second (or third) place in anyone's life ever again, so while they aren't in any official relationship, they do find themselves in each other's arms when they cross paths. (fun fact, Aren calls Sakura 'Wildflower')
When Kankuro was poisoned, The Last Sparrow (legal now!!!) had fortuitously docked at one of Fire Country's port cities. So they could take that to Suna and cut a week off their travel time.
Kakashi was surprised to see that Aren and Sakura knew each other.
He was very unpleasantly surprised to see HOW well they knew each other. He spent a full week seething- as he watched some sleazy Icha-icha knock-off pirate Lothario take advantage of Sakura.
Once again, thank you so much for the lovely words and all the support for this AU!
SPICY UNDER CUT.

Youth (Part 4)
Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4
Synopsis: Losing your parents was hard on you, but taking on the challenge of raising a kid at the age of 14 was going to be harder. You were just lucky to have him by your side.
Tumblr media
A high-pitched scream fell from your lips as you watched Mizuki throw the other shuriken at Naruto. Your heart felt like it was in your throat, eyes wide as the weapon moved in slow motion toward the retreating blonde. Mizuki whipped his head to where you were standing, your leg poised to jump into the action. You pushed off from the branch, screaming for Naruto to run faster.
As you closed in on him and the approaching shuriken, you realized you had made it just in time to save him but your eyes widened as you also realized that you would most likely die from the impact. If you twisted your body in a different position you risked the weapon missing you and flying straight into Naruto. It would just have to strike your side, you hoped the blade wouldn't cut a vital organ but a feeling of dread told you otherwise.
Iruka jumped into action at the same time you did, his hand outstretched in the hopes of pushing you away, but you were faster than him. He cried out your name as the blade pierced your side, causing you to cry out in pain. Your body slammed into Iruka's, sending you both flying to the ground. Iruka made sure to land in a way that wouldn't hurt you further but he still winced at how hard you slammed into the ground. Your head shot up to where Naruto stood frozen, mouth opening to yell for him to keep running but the words fell on deaf ears as he watched you with dread in his eyes.
"Naruto, PLEASE RUN" Your scream was bloodcurdling as the blood flowed out of your side, staining your shirt and Iruka's shaking hands as he tried to stop the bleeding. Iruka wasn't doing so hot, what with having the other shuriken being thrown into his back earlier on in the fight, but you were really not doing well. Your skin grew dull due to the blood loss, gaze turning heavy as you blinked slowly at Naruto. Instead of running like you wanted him to, he stood his ground for the sight of you caused something not akin to fear to stir within him.
Tumblr media
Naruto's eyes shot up to Mizuki, lip pulled into a snarl as he moved his feet into a fighting stance. You shook your head 'no', lip trembling as you rested your head on the ground in anguish. You were so tired, so very tired. "Y/n, don't fall asleep" Iruka sounded muffled and far away but you heard the frantic tone in his voice. You nodded softly at that but didn't fight the feeling of falling into darkness.
The sound of beeping was the first thing you heard when you started to stir, wincing at how high-pitched the sound was. You kept your eyes closed, enjoying the chance to relax.
That is until you remembered what had happened.
Your eyes shot open and a loud gasp flew from your lips as you sat up in the bed. Iruka and Kakashi jumped from where they stood against the wall, eyes shooting from you to the blonde sleeping beside you. Iruka winced as he watched your face contort into pain, your free hand flying to your side as you tried to catch your breath from the shock of pain that shot through your system. "Ow, oh my... How am I-" You frantically looked at your side to make sure you weren't just dreaming, and that's when you saw him.
Naruto was curled up on the bed beside you, sleeping with his head shoved into your pillow and his hand tightly gripping yours. You sighed in relief, he was alive. With a shaky hand, you let go of your side and raked your fingers through his hair. Your lip trembled, eyes growing watery as all of the memories from the incident flashed through your mind.
"Hey, it's okay" Kakashi whispered as he sat down beside you causing you to jump in your spot. He wrapped his arm around your middle before softly resting his hand on your injured side, thumb caressing it as if trying to ease the pain. "Was he hurt?"
"No, no you saved him" Kakashi reassured quietly as he nuzzled into your shoulder. If you weren't so focused on Naruto, you would have taken in just how shaken up Kakashi was. He rarely if ever showed 'neediness', especially in front of others, so this must have been bad. Your eyes flicked to Iruka, heart stopping as you took in his steely gaze.
Ah... Ya...
"Hi Iruka" you called out quietly "I'm, uh... Sorry I didn't listen to you"
He nodded but didn't say anything. You shied back into Kakashi, now very self-aware of the emotions in the room. Fear, relief, guilt, and anger mixed violently together, making you grow slightly nauseous in the stuffy room. "Iruka, can you give us a minute?" Kakashi called out. It was supposed to be a question, but it sounded like a demand. Iruka, growing quite disgusted with his emotions nodded and headed for the door.
You let out a breath you didn't know you were holding in, eyes once more casting down to the still-sleeping child below. "I was so scared. I know I shouldn't have done it but I couldn't stand the idea of Naruto being hurt if there was a way for me to stop it."
Kakashi nodded against your skin as he pulled down his mask to press soft kisses on your shoulder. You visibly relaxed at the sweet gesture. Kakashi always knew how to calm your worries. He had three methods - talk you off the ledge, press kisses on your skin, or hold you close to him. Each method was used for different cases, and it finally hit you just how bad it was by the fact that he was implementing both two and three simultaneously.
You tried to wiggle to see how tightly he was holding onto you, but he grumbled out a complaint as he continued to pepper kisses on your skin. "It was bad, wasn't it?"
His eyes shot open, blood running cold as he weighed the pros and cons of telling you just how terrifying it was for those around you. You wiggled around more before huffing out a 'If you don't tell me I don't want you touching me'. It was an empty threat of course, but he opened up anyway.
"Naruto managed to defeat Mizuki with his shadow clone jutsu, but it was a couple minutes after you passed out. Iruka tried to stop the bleeding but he didn't move you until Naruto was done. Several other Shinobi arrived and helped Iruka carry you here." He trailed off hoping that it would be enough to satiate your need to know why everyone was being so clingy, but your silence told him that his explanation wasn't enough.
He let out a sigh, "You bled out so much that you died, Y/n."
Your breath caught in your throat, eyes wide as you processed what he just said to you. "I... Died?"
Kakashi nodded against your shoulder before dragging you deeper into his embrace, he didn't know if it was for your benefit or his but he needed you close to him. "They brought you back, obviously, but Naruto saw the whole thing." You winced at that, now understanding why Naruto was gripping onto you like you'd float away. Even in his sleep he was worried about you. "My poor baby" you blubbered out, lip trembling as tears clouded your vision. You tried to sniffle quietly, but it was no use as your sniffles turned into shallow sobs. How could you have done this to him?
"Iruka saw it as well. He won't voice it but that's why he was upset earlier"
You nodded at that, understanding just how terrifying it was to watch someone you cared for die in front of you. Your eyes roamed over Naruto's peaceful face, you were glad he was sleeping so peacefully. But you were starting to get antsy "Okay I know he's a heavy sleeper but how is he not awake" You coughed out a laugh as you wiped away your tears and snot. Kakashi chuckled as well before pulling up his mask. "He couldn't go to sleep with how on edge he was, so they gave him some sleeping pills-"
Just then, as if on cue, Naruto began to stir under your hand. He blinked his eyes open but it took him a couple of seconds to adjust to the bright room "Hi honey"
His eyes widened at your voice, body shooting up as he tackled you into a hug. You both flew back into Kakashi, causing you to cry out softly as pain shot up your side. Naruto didn't pay any mind to it though and instead squeezed harder, fingers digging into your shoulders as he pulled himself deeper into you. "I'm so sorry Mom. I shouldn't have listened to that bad guy. You're in here because of me. I'm so so sorry Mom, do you still love me? God seeing you die was the most terrifying thing in the world and -" The longer he talked the more hysterical he sounded. Tears were streaming down his face and his words somehow morphed into sobs that only you could understand. He was shaking against you and you opened your mouth to reassure him that you were okay but he squeezed you even tighter, cutting you off.
"Hey hey be careful Naruto! She's still injured you know!" Kakashi spits out as he tried to loosen the grip the child had on you. Naruto shook his head at Kakashi, he knew you were still injured but he was so scared of losing you that he couldn't imagine loosening his grip on you. "Naruto honey" you wheezed out through the pain, hands moving up from his back to his hair hoping and praying that grounding him would lessen the grip he had on you.
"Naruto"
It got quiet as you rubbed against the nape of his neck, the spot you always used to rub to get him to sleep as a toddler. You were surprised it still worked now that he was much older. He relaxed in your hold and you finally let out a breath of alleviation. You turned your head to press a kiss to his cheek, "You didn't do anything wrong. My duty is to protect you-"
"But you died"
"I promised Lord Third that if the day ever came where your life was in danger, I had to lay down my life for you..." you trailed off as he pulled his face away from your shoulder, eyes wide in both shock and fear. "I accepted my fate when I took you in, Naruto..."
"Okay well don't accept it, take it back. You can't just lay down your life like it's nothing for me!!"
"Naruto-"
"The Third Hokage doesn't know anything, how dare he put your life on the line for me"
"Naruto."
"My life means nothing, but yours does-"
"Naruto" The tone of how you and Kakashi said his name made him quiet down.
"I'm sorry... I just can't imagine this world going on with you gone"
Your eyes widened in shock, tears once more bubbling at your lash line at the sadness in his voice. This really really scared him. "Well I'm not gone and I'm right here. And Naruto, I will continue protecting you whether you like it or not. Because I for one cannot imagine a world without you, and I refuse to exist in one where that is true."
Naruto nodded, accepting that your love for him would trump over everything else. A knock sounded out and you wiped your tears away as the nurse came in with a smile. Naruto and Kakashi got off the bed so she could have more room to check on you. Kakashi motioned for Naruto to follow him out into the hallway to give you some privacy. Both of them threw a glance your way as if making a mental note that you were indeed alive and well. That you wouldn't still be passed out when they returned. Kakashi wrapped his arm around Naruto's shoulders, "Your mom's strong kid. She'll be alright"
Naruto nodded at that. He believed it, he truly did. But something told him that this wouldn't be the last time something like this would happen. At that moment, he made a realization - if he grew stronger, you wouldn't have to protect him. With that thought, he smiled.
He'd become strong.
This world needed both of you in it, so he was going to make sure it would stay that way.

Oh my god! I’ve read this through five times! I love it so much.
Sasuke and Kakashi bickering cracked me up! Him being his cheeky lil self and thinking he got one over on Kakashi, and then Kakashi letting him believe it!
They are so adorable and Omg, the literal face palm ‘what does she see in you’ killed me! Their relationship is so lovely, I love when kakashi can see himself reflected in sasuke in so many ways, more than just being a prodigy. And little sasuke getting excited to learn a Justu (and set a plan for it, no ‘next time’) it’s so bittersweet that he wanted it to be one outside the clan too <3
lol the coffee was a wonderful touch!😊.
‘With no hesitation and no remorse she laid his own insecurities in front of him and worst of all she did it with a smile.’
‘I don’t celebrate Valentine's day.” she continued to argue, though her voice was too tender to hold any real weight in the words she said.’
This is 100% Akami in a nutshell! You wrote her (like she’s yours lol!) and their little teasing tender dynamic so so well! I could totally see her in all of this! she won’t admit it to his face but she low-key loves that’s he’s dorky and cheesy and also yes she hates it when he wears his mask when it’s just them!
Also the cooking! I love love love when people show their love through food, especially when that someone is kakashi!
Ughhhakchcujkdh!!!!
If I keep going I will end up repeating every line back to you, but thank you thank you! I love this so much and after I share this will probably read it again for a 6th time!
So thank you once again! 🥰

This is an exchange fic for @akamikazae for the Beautiful server we’re in together 🥰🥰🥰 I saw an opportunity to have some Kakashi and Sasuke bonding (in their own special way) and jumped at it, but of course I couldn’t miss a chance to include a beautiful OC for Kakashi to love. I hope I did them justice 💜💜💜
Thank you to @lemony-snickers for being a beta reader for this fic 💜💜💜
Pairing: Hatake Kakashi/OFC
Words: 2944
Two hours and twenty-three minutes.
That was how long Kakashi had to pick up groceries, get to Akami’s place, make dinner, and set everything up before she was due to return home. He’d taken every precaution to ensure he wasn’t a second late with his preparations, even forgoing a visit to Rin and Obito so that he could ensure he wasn’t late.
Today was not a day he could be late, but as always Kakashi was faced with the fact that the world hated him and wanted him to fail in everything he did.
Even making a nice dinner for his girlfriend, without hindrance, seemed too much to ask judging by the three-block lineup that led to the grocery store.
“Come on,” leaning a little to his left, he peered down the seemingly endless lineup. “Since when do people line up for the grocery store?”
A new restaurant he could understand, or a brand new spa. There were always lineups into the spas, even the older ones that had been around since the village was founded.
A grocery store, though. There was nothing he could think of that would explain people lining up and waiting for three blocks just to get into a grocery store.
“It’s valentine's day,” He’d sensed Sasuke’s presence nearby, but he hadn’t thought the kid would approach him so it was a little surprising to hear his voice directly beside him. A surprise that must have been evident in his expression, judging by the smug laugh Sasuke gave him. “For a Jonin you’re bad at noticing your surroundings.”
He could argue that fact, but there was no point. Sasuke didn’t know half of the things he did, and if the kid wanted to feel like he’d accomplished something by sneaking up on a Jonin, Kakashi would let him. There was no harm in letting the kid have a moment of triumph.
“Valentine's day?” He repeated, struck suddenly by a horrible realization. “You mean…”
Slapping a hand over his eyes, Sasuke groaned. “What does she see in you?”
A question Kakashi asked himself every day. There was no doubt in his mind that Akami was way out of his league, but every day she chose to be with him.
A small blessing the universe granted him after a lifetime of loss and one that could be snatched away from him at any moment just like everything else he loved had been.
“So,” peering down the line once more, he sifted through his options. Waiting was possible but judging by the time it had taken him to move two feet it would result in a very late dinner. Only one option could get him back to Akami’s in time to cook and set everything up, but he was going to need Sasuke’s help to make it work. “Any chance you’d help a guy out.”
“Doing what?” The kid scuffed.
“No one in this line is going to get mad at a twelve-year-old cutting in line,” if they did everyone else in the lineup would shame them for it. “So if I give you some Ryo you could head to the front of the line and slip in before everyone else.”
An odd sense of familiarity washed over him when Sasuke placed a hand against his hip and glared at him with an intensity that only a stubborn kid could radiate but Kakashi chose to ignore it just as he ignored many things in his life. “You want me to do your shopping for you?”
“It would help me get home quicker,” he explained, cringing at the slight desperation he heard in his voice. “You wouldn’t want me to be late with dinner, would you? How would Akami feel about coming home after a long day of work and having to wait for a nice home-cooked meal?”
Sasuke simply rolled his eyes. “Alright,” he extended a hand towards Kakashi and smirked when money was placed into it. “But only on one condition.”
Kakashi scolded himself for not seeing this. It only made sense that Sasuke would want something in return. When he was a kid he’d done the same thing to Minato-Sensei after being asked to pick up some flowers from the Yamanaka flower shop for Kushina.
“What is it?”
“Teach me a new jutsu.”
Kakashi stared at the kid, processing what he had just heard before narrowing his eyes into a glare. “Aren’t you still in the Acadamy?”
“I am,” Sasuke confirmed with a shrug of his shoulders. “But I’m already ahead of the rest of my class. There’s nothing Iruka-Sensei can teach me.”
That was a lie. While Iruka may have only been a chunin he still had a wealth of knowledge that he didn’t share with his classes. The jutsu was considered too advanced for the academy students and Iruka wasn’t a man who made a habit out of teaching his kids anything outside of the assigned curriculum.
Kakashi knew Sasuke’s plight though. To be a prodigy meant that Sasuke would always feel like he was being held back by the rest of the class. He was unable to advance until he finally graduated and took on the rank of genin.
“One jutsu,” he agreed, holding a single finger for emphasis. “What style?”
Sasuke’s eyes widened for a second, but he swiftly got his emotions under control and returned to his regular unimpressed expression. “I’ve only learned fire jutsu to date.”
“Then we should stick to fire jutsus,” Kakashi decided. It would just earn Sasuke more unnecessary praise if he were to teach him another style before he became a genin. “I can think of a few you might like.”
“One that’s not an Uchiha jutsu, preferably,” the kid insisted, holding out a hand toward Kakashi. Placing the small list of groceries he’d written for himself into Sasuke’s palm, he watched as the kid closed his fingers around it and swiftly as he turned his back to him. “Though, you wouldn’t know those anyways.”
Holding his tongue, Kakashi watched as Sasuke made his way toward the front of the line. It wouldn’t do him any good to correct the kid, and it wasn’t as though he knew about the Sharingan that Obito had gifted him or the fact that he’d learned some of the Uchiha’s fire-style techniques while working alongside Obito and Itachi.
That information wouldn’t do Sasuke any good anyways, so there was no point in providing him with it at this time. Instead, he’d take the time Sasuke was gone to think of just which jutsu he was going to teach the kid.
“One Akami won’t get mad at me over,” he grumbled to himself as he took a step out of line and allowed the person behind him to claim his spot. “But which one?”
There were more than a few he could choose from.
Mission accomplished.
Not even five minutes after he’d left Kakashi’s side, Sasuke returned with a bag in hand and a sour look on his face. “Never ask me to do that again,” he insisted, holding the bag out towards Kakashi. “The place was crowded.”
Unsurprising given the lineup Kakashi had found himself stuck in.
Peering into the bag, he smiled when he saw all of the things he’d asked Sasuke to retrieve plus an intriguing-looking bag of coffee with a snake smack in the center of the bag, A perfect gift for Akami. A little gift he was certain she’d love. After all, If there was one person in all of Konoha who understood Akami better than him, it was Sasuke.
“This is perfect,” not only did he have everything he needed, but he still had over two hours to get himself to Akami’s house and prepare everything. “Thank you.”
He tried his best to smile, a small sign of his appreciation for Sasuke’s help, but judging by the way the kid took a step back and cringed he was willing to guess it hadn’t turned out as warm as he was trying.
“That’s weird,” Sasuke grunted. “You’re weird.”
“Well, you’re stuck with weird,” closing the bag, he gripped it in his left hand and held it off to his side. “Now, would you like me to make enough for three tonight?”
Most days Sasuke would join them for dinner. It was something Kakashi had to get used to at first, but these days he almost felt like they were missing something on the rare night when Sasuke would stay out late training or hide away in his bedroom.
“No,” turning his back to Kakashi, the kid sighed. “I see you two being cuddly enough most days. It’ll be three times worse tonight.”
That wasn’t particularly true considering neither Kakashi nor Akami was the ‘cute cuddly’ type of couple, but he decided not to correct Sasuke this time. A night for just the two of them sounded nice.
“In that case, I’ll meet you after you finish class tomorrow if I don’t have a mission,” that last part he had little to no control over. If Lord Third wanted to send him away on a mission he’d simply have to accept it and chose another day to train with Sasuke. “I think I have the perfect Jutsu picked out for you.”
A chunin-level fire-style jutsu that he was certain Sasuke would have no problem learning. Anyone else would struggle with it, but Sasuke was a prodigy of his generation. There was little doubt in his mind that the kid would be able to learn it easily enough, and if he needed support and guidance Kakashi would be there.
He’d be a terrible teacher if he didn’t at least make sure he learned the jutsu properly.
“Tomorrow then,” Sasuke agreed. “Good luck tonight.”
With that, he was gone. Kakashi could still sense him easily enough, but anyone genin level or lower would think he’d disappeared into thin air. Another example of his skill.
“Tomorrow,” Kakashi spoke to himself, glancing down at the bag that hung from his hand. “For now, I have some food to cook.”
With two minutes left on the clock, Kakashi turned off Akami’s stove and set the pot off to the side to cool. The sweet smell of Mapo tofu filled the kitchen, and the onigiri he’d worked on for just over an hour molding into perfect little triangles sat in the center of the dinner table.
He’d even managed to set up the table so that Akami’s new bag of coffee was sitting in front of her seat waiting to be noticed.
All he had to do now was wait.
The sound of the door sliding open echoed through the air at that moment, alerting him to Akami’s arrival. One minute early, but he wasn’t about to complain. “Kakashi?” her voice called out to him. “Are you here?”
“I am,” he confirmed without hesitation, knowing all too well that any seasoned shinobi would reach for their Kunai if they didn’t hear a familiar voice right away. “How was your day?”
Shoes clattered to the floor and in just a few seconds Akami appeared in the doorway. An exhausted look in her eyes seemed to disappear as soon as she saw the meal waiting for her.
“What is this?” she propped herself up against the side jam and watched him with curious eyes. “You don’t usually cook.”
“I don’t usually have time to cook,” he defended himself. “But today is special. I wanted to surprise you.”
Perhaps he’d read too many of those cheesy romances his friends teased him about. The ones where the man would cook up a brilliant meal to show his lover just how much he cared, with all of their favorite foods and candlelight to add a little bit of romantic flare.
Maybe it was just because he was feeling lonely. The two of them hadn’t been able to spend a lot of time together in the last month because of back-to-back missions Lord Third had been sending him on and now that he had an opportunity to make up for that he was determined to do so.
“A surprise?” a smile tugged at the edges of her lips. “Is this just because? Or did you feel obligated to do something for Valentine's day?”
“A bit of both,” he admitted. “Actually, I’d forgotten all about Valentine's day until a certain overprotective Uchiha reminded me this afternoon.”
Akami rolled her eyes. “Did he call you names again?”
“Not this time. He’s just struggling to understand why you would want to date someone like me.”
“And let me guess,” straightening herself up, she slipped a hand behind her neck and pulled her long black hair forward so that it draped over her shoulder. “You’re wondering that too?”
She’d read him like a genin-level book. With no hesitation and no remorse she’d laid his own insecurities in front of him, and worst of all she did it with a smile. Not just any smile either.
That smile.
The one that shone in her eyes so bright that he was certain he’d be blinded by it and left him feeling weak in the knees.
“Stop that.”
“Stop what?” she asked with a mischievous smirk.
“You know what you’re doing,” stopping directly in front of him, she lifted a hand and gently placed it over his chest. “I made you dinner.”
“You did,” she agreed. “And it smells delicious.”
“So you should stop teasing me.” It was a hopeless cause. He knew it was a hopeless cause but he had to put his foot down or Akami would get bored. She enjoyed a challenge and there were few people in the village willing or capable of giving her that challenge. Partially because of her cunning and sharp personality, and partially because no one really knew how to deal with someone who’d been trained by Danzo as a root operative.
Kakashi knew, though. He’d known Tenzo since they were kids and while he had a vastly different personality from Akami their training was the same. They knew how to toy with people and how to read them.
There was almost nothing that could get past them. Even Kakashi, with all of his genius, was easy for them to read. They may not have been allowed to foster their own emotions but they’d learned well how to read and use the emotions of others against them.
“Hmmm, perhaps I should,” reaching out toward him, she gently laid her hand against his cheek. The warmth of her skin invited him to relax and unwind. “You didn’t need to make me dinner.”
“I wanted to.”
“I don’t celebrate Valentine's day.” she continued to argue, though her voice was too tender to hold any real weight in the words she said.
“Then it’s not Valentine's day,” he fired back, fully willing to play along with her. “Dinner is a treat because you deserve it. The sweets are a gift from me and Sasuke because you’ve worked hard and even the great Akami needs to spoil herself once in a while.”
Her hand dropped from his face and came down to settle over her mouth, just barely covering the smile that now stretched across her lips. “The great Akami?” she repeated, chuckling a little as the words reached her ears. “Were you bitten by one of those romance books of yours? You’re not usually this cheesy.”
“Perhaps,” he shrugged his shoulders and took a step back, waving a hand out towards the dinner table. “You’re not going to dump me because I’m a little cheesy, are you?”
Akami rolled her eyes. “I think I can forgive your cheesiness,” she fired back without hesitation. “As long as you keep making those delicious-smelling meals.”
“Is that all I’m good for?”
“No,” closing the distance between them once more, she laid a hand over his chest. “You’re good for a lot of things, Hatake Kakashi.”
A shiver ran down his spine. “Don’t do that.”
“Don’t do what?”
“Don’t say my full name,” he clarified. “Everyone gets something from their parents, even if they don’t like them, and you…well.”
The smile dropped off her face. “If you say it I’m walking out the door right now and you’re eating dinner alone.”
Kakashi wasn’t an idiot. He could tell that she was serious about her threat and he’d put too much effort into making the perfect dinner to risk her walking away angry. So, he swallowed his words and wrapped both arms around her waist instead.
“Mmmm, good choice,” Akami reached up and poked his nose. “Oh, and there’s just one more thing.”
“The mask?”
“The mask,” she confirmed. “There’s no one here but me to see that handsome face of yours.”
Handsome. The word felt wrong when he heard it, even if it was said with that pretty voice. He refrained from wincing, but there was no doubt in his mind that Akami had seen the pained look in his eyes.
The fact that she didn’t immediately tease him about it was a gift. One he wasn’t about to let go to waste. So, without any further hesitation, he reached up, tucked a finger under the top of his mask, and pulled the cloth down off of his face. Exposing himself to one of the only people in the world to whom he was comfortable showing his face too.
“There it is,” her lips stretched across her face into a brilliant smile, and her hand settled against his cheek once more, the cold feeling of her skin easing the warmth that had built up in his face from wearing his mask all day. “Just as handsome as I remember it.”

Naruto: The Will of Fire - I have seen this movie so many times. And I never get tired of it.
How did Sai survive that fall? You know what, it's anime I'm not even gonna question it. I say that even though I have the same thought every time I see it.
Kakashi: "We need to continue the mission." Darlin, i love you, but you constantly preach about never leaving someone behind. MAYBE YOU SHOULD PRACTICE WHAT YOU PREACH, IDIOT!!
Poor Sai. Naruto drags him into everything. lol.
Hiruko is annoying from the get-go. Like "a perfect, immortal ninja" boy, you need to go back to whatever dark, depressing hole you crawled out of.
Not Naruto falling asleep after Hiruko threatening to throw the world into war. He's completely unbothered. Lmao.
I really hate that the animators didn't include bookshelves in Kakashi's apartment. That man reads more than just porn.
Tsunade: "Kakashi are you saying you want me to go down in history as the Hokage who sacrificed her subordinate in order to protect the village?"
Kakashi: "Yes, I do."
My reaction to this every time:
Tumblr media
Again, further proving my point that he sees no value in his life whatsoever. If I could, I'd jump through that screen and slap him. And here's another problem I have with that, Kakashi really thought that Naruto would just sit back and let him sacrifice himself. What? ARE YOU STUPID?! DID YOU JUST FORGET WHAT YOU TAUGHT THEM?!
Naruto: "This time, no doubt, I'll protect him." Kakashi needs more of that in his life rather than going on a suicide mission. Which he's done repeatedly, by the way.
Tsunade: "What are those idiots doing?" Uh, to save someone from themselves and keep them from being an absolute martyr.
And Shikamaru kinda pisses me off a little bit in this movie. "I want to save Kakashi-sensei too, but I can't sacrifice everyone in the village for that." I'm sorry that's not... why are you talking like giving up Kakashi's life to the enemy is the only option here? I see the logic in Kakashi's plan, but this is NARUTO we're talking about. Have faith in him if anything else.
LMFAO! Sai really only acted because of what a book told him to do. I love him so much!!
Shino was perfection. "Do you think that's all I have?" Where's his crown at? He's an absolute king.
I'm even more surprised that Gaara tried to stop Naruto. He should know better than anyone that Naruto has always cared about others and would never sacrifice the life of anyone in the village to save it. The only one who had faith in Naruto was Jiraiya.
"That would go against Kakashi's wishes." No, Kakashi is an idiot who feels guilt-ridden and is trying to make up for his mistakes. Nothing more.
Gaara: "I won't be swayed by your ideals" *a minute later*
Tumblr media
Shikamaru: "I'll stop Naruto. Even if I have to kill him." See, now that's where he loses me entirely. That's where his beliefs become moot. He's being incredibly ridiculous and narrow-minded at this point.
Hiruko's outfit in this movie reminds me of a straitjacket. He should be in one, given how insane he is.
Kakashi: "What the hell are you doing here, Naruto?" Oh, you know, out for a walk... HE'S THERE TO SAVE YOUR ASS FROM YOUR OWN STUPIDITY!! WHY DO YOU THINK HE'S THERE?!
See, no, it just looks wrong when someone else uses Chidori. It's gross even (this excludes Sasuke).
Kakashi: "I'm the loser here." Ya, think? Such a stupid, lovable man.
"I knew it. You're just like him." TALKING ABOUT OBITO! Literally crying, screaming, and throwing up.
I love this movie. Never get tired of it.

For Them to Have Your Eyes: Welcome
Gai was very anxious to meet their child, but he had to admit his rival’s feelings about it were stronger. Not because he was not as excited, of course! But rather because Kakashi wanted both to meet the kid and to get rid of the extra weight he had to carry around.
At some point, Gai had tried to reassure him saying he was just as handsome as before the pregnancy, but the Hatake had glared at him aggressively and he had ended up sleeping on the sofa that night. Sakura had assured him that response was most likely due to the hormones, so he shouldn’t worry about having said something wrong. The next day, Kakashi had challenged him to wear a vest that imitated the pregnancy during the whole day, and Gai had then understood why his partner complained so much and so often.
Sure, he was a taijutsu master and carrying extra weight around was kind of his thing, but that was… Something else. The position was uncomfortable, pulling at your muscles and getting in the way of almost every movement you did. After the agreed twenty-four hours of challenge, he had been glad to throw the vest away, although he had been polite enough to say that if it made the Hatake feel better, he would keep wearing it. Kakashi had then started crying and demanded cuddles, so he guessed at least that time the hormones were playing in his favor.
Surprisingly, the day —or rather night— in which his rival’s water broke, he was completely calm and composed. At least at the beginning.
It was almost midnight and they were preparing for going to bed. This meant a whole ordeal in their household at the moment, the pillow and blankets needing to be arranged in an exact position to not bother Kakashi. It also implied cleaning the path from his side of the bed to the bathroom, leaving the doors open for the several moments of the night when the Hatake would undoubtedly wake up needing to pee. Most of the time, Gai would awake as well or one of the dogs would accompany him in case something happened.
“Gai” Kakashi called from the bathroom, “can you…?”
He was there before the other man could finish the sentence, his wheels drifting on the wooden floors.
“What is it? What do you need?”
“A hospital, preferably” the Hatake said as he put his mask slowly up.
“WHY?! Did you fall?! I told you to ask for help if…”
“Gai” his rival cut him with a pointy look. “Just look at the floor for a moment.”
There was a small puddle over the bathroom’s tiles, not very big but still dangerous.
“Did you slip with the water?!”
“No, Gai” Kakashi sighed, his tone annoyed. “I stained the floor with my amniotic fluids when my water broke.”
So, he hadn’t fallen. Everything was alright, then…
Wait.
Oh.
Oh.
“REALLY?!”
His scream was enough to alert the dogs scattered around the house, their paws hitting loudly the ground as they ran to the bathroom.
“What is it?” Akino asked, looking around as if expecting an enemy. “What’s wrong?”
“Nothing is wrong” the Hatake sighed again. “My water broke, so I’m ready to give birth. Now, why don’t we get to the hospital so I can go through this with the support of some competent people?”
“Right. RIGHT!” Gai exclaimed, adrenaline running through his body as he turned towards the ninken. “Bull, take the emergency bag that it’s packed in the wardrobe. Uhei, Pakkun and Biscuit, go looking for Tsunade-sama, Shizune and Sakura and make sure they are available at the hospital. The rest of you, come with us.”
The dogs moved quickly under his commands, Urushi, Guruko, Shiba and Akino following them as Gai accompanied Kakashi to the bedroom so he could change his pants and underwear. He needed his assistance for it, but they were done quickly and as soon as Bull had the baby bag hanging from the mouth, they left for the hospital.
Barely a second after Gai wheeled himself down the ramp with Kakashi on his lap, two ANBU figures appeared at his side.
“Is it time?” Yamato asked.
“Yup, I’m ready to push this baby finally out of me” the Hatake joyfully said. “Let’s go!”
Was it weird that his rival sounded more happy in that moment than during the last month? Gai thought back on the pregnancy vest and shuddered. Yes, that tracked.
“Are you sure you don’t want us to carry him, Gai?” Yugao intervened. “We could…”
“I’m perfectly capable of getting my rival to the hospital, thank you very much” he complained. “Unless he wants it otherwise.”
“Nah, I’m good.”
Happy with the answer, Gai made sure Kakashi was perfectly safe on his lap before start wheeling himself forward with as much strength as he was. In under thirty seconds they had left the outer part of the village —where they lived— and entered the city center. A minute and a half, and they were at the hospital’s doors. Ha, as if Yugao or Yamato were able to keep up with his speed even if he was on a wheelchair.
The five ninken that had left the house with them were at their side just a moment later, as well as the ANBU guards who would undoubtedly protect Kakashi from the shadows as he gave birth. On the other hand, Uhei, Pakkun and Biscuit waited inside of the hospital together with the three medic-nin that would make sure the whole process went smoothly.
“Ready to meet your brat, brat?” Tsunade asked with a smile.
“Hey, my kid will only be half a brat” the Hatake reclaimed with a huff. “Don’t forget who is the other father.”
“Well, I would appreciate if nobody called our kid a brat before they’re even born” Gai pouted.
The others chuckled at the comment, Shizune and Sakura helping Kakashi to get up and transfer onto the gurney they had brought to the entrance. Being so late at night, the place was empty except for the couple of administrative at the front desk, which Gai guessed made his rival more comfortable. From there, they moved to a big individual room were the whole procedure was planned to take place.
“Ok, guys, I know you like Kakashi and all that, but there are too many of us in here at the moment” Tsunade said, looking at the ninken, “so, I must ask you to leave.”
“But he’s our summoner!” Uhei complained.
“Yeah, and his pup will be our pup to raise!” Pakkun added.
“I’m pretty sure Gai and me are the ones supposed to do the raising” his rival commented.
“Sure, you will help.”
Gai was starting to seriously suspect a kidnapping coming from the ninken.
“Well, you can do all the baby raising you want once they are actually here” the Sanin pushed. “Now, off you go.”
She shooed them out of the room with her hands, to which the dogs responded with glares and whines. However, as Kakashi didn’t say anything to oppose Tsunade’s declaration, they followed the instructions. And by that Gai meant that they sat at the other side of the room, their breaths still audible from the inside.
“Ok, we can start now” the Godaime indicated, turning to the Hatake once again. “First, how long ago did your water break? And how are you feeling?”
“It happened about five or seven minutes ago, and so far I’m good, pain manageable.”
“Well, it won’t stay that way much longer.”
Gai was not sure if that was the kind of encouragement Tsunade should be offering, but he was not the medical expert in there, so he remained silent.
“Tsunade-sama…” Shizune complained.
“I’m just stating the truth, and you know it as much as me” the Sanin said as she put on some gloves. “Now, I need to examine you. Do you want us to help you to change, or just Gai?”
“Just him” the Hatake quickly answered.
Nodding, Tsunade offered Gai a medical gown and then started to close the curtain around the bed to give them some privacy. They had previously talked about the whole arrangement and they made a great team, so even with Kakashi’s difficulties to move around, they were able to undress him rather fast, gown in place just a minute later.
“Are you ready to meet our kid?” Gai asked in a low voice.
“Yeah, but that I remember we may be a few hours away from that, and before I have to suffer quite a bit.”
Gai grimaced, knowing the delivery would be one of the most unpleasant experiences for Kakashi due to several reasons. Even if he knew it wouldn’t change much, he kissed him softly on the forehead.
“I love you.”
The Hatake nodded, smiling with his eyes and giving after a signal to indicate he was ready to continue. Gai moved then to open the curtains, revealing the three women again.
“Everything set? Good” the Godaime said. “We’ll start with an examination to see how far dilated you are, ok?”
Another nod and she made some movements to shift Kakashi’s legs in the correct position. Gai stayed by his side, taking the Hatake’s right hand in his when he saw him grabbing the sheets as if he was about to be tortured. As previously accorded, Sakura and Shizune stayed back but ready to intervene if necessary.
“I’m going to start now” Tsunade indicated with a calm smile.
Gai knew the exact moment in which her hands made contact with Kakashi’s body, as his rival stiffened and increased the strength of his grip to an almost painful level. Still, his eyes didn’t move away from the Sanin even for a second, which allowed him to detect the sudden tension on her shoulders.
“W-What is it?” Kakashi asked in an uncomfortable tone.
“It feels like the baby shifted positions in the last three days” she said, not sugarcoating anything. “I need to check your belly with medical ninjutsu to be sure, but I believe the baby is breech.”
Through all the pregnancy, Gai had read enough books to know what that meant.
“So, their feet are coming first? Isn’t that dangerous?”
“It will be if I don’t take a decision quick enough.”
“Then, hurry” the Hatake barked, fangs probably showing after the surgical mask.
“Believe it or not, brat, I know how to do my job” Tsunade responded as she removed the gloves and stood up to position herself by Kakashi’s left side. “I will do all I can to ensure both yours and the baby’s health.”
Unmaking the knots Gai had done in the side of the medical gown, she lifted it carefully to reveal as little skin as possible before moving her hands under it and over the Hatake’s belly. A soft, green glow came out a moment after and his rival face changed again into an uncomfortable expression. Thankfully, Tsunade just needed a couple of seconds to do the examination.
“The baby is definitely breech” she said, turning then to Sakura and Shizune. “We need to prepare for an emergency c-section.”
The other two kunoichis nodded and began moving with precision, removing some items and bringing others from the back of the room. Barely a couple of minutes after, the whole setup had changed.
“Ok, do you remember what the plan for this was?” Tsunade asked while looking at them.
Gai nodded, his brain going over all the explanations they had gotten, as well as everything he had learnt from the books. There was a part of him screaming that it was not time for questions and wanting to panic, but he shut it up.
“You’ll put the lower part of his body to sleep, and set up a few tubes for meds” he said. “Then a couple of incisions and the baby will be born.”
“That summarizes it up quite well, yes” the Godaime smiled, her hands moving to receive the line Shizune was offering. “Are you ready, Kakashi?”
Taking a glance back at his rival, Gai was able to recognize the signals normally indicating that his anxiety was firing up. They were subtle, but still there, and he was about to intervene when the Hatake closed his eyes and took a deep breath. When he came back, he nodded with a decisive look in his face.
“Yes, I am.”
There was a small squeeze on Gai’ hand, to which he responded with one of his own. They were ready.
The next moment, Tsunade put the line in Kakashi’s left arm and Shizune pushed in some medication. Afterwards came the catheter and the anesthesia, as well as the cleaning of the abdomen. Once everything was ready and it was clear his rival’s lower body was asleep, the Sanin took the scalpel.
There was no visual barrier between them and the kunoichis, that being one of the Hatake’s conditions for the intervention. He trusted all of them, of course, but the thought of a knife cutting his body while he was awake and lacking control over it activated too many of his shinobi alarms. If the down part of that situation was having to see his own body being cut and blood coming out, he was fine with it. Gai, even if he was not particularly enthusiastic about it, knew that at the end it was Kakashi’s decision and, since it wouldn’t affect his or the baby’s health, he agreed with it.
Seeing the scalpel cutting his skin and feeling nothing more than a brushing sensation was weird, Kakashi decided. Also a little bit disturbing. If being honest, the first second after Tsunade had said a c-section was necessary, he almost let out a “thank Kami-sama”. As stated before, he was rather attached to his genitals, but that didn’t mean he felt comfortable with someone else besides Gai looking at them, let alone feel the deformation they would suffer during birth.
Of course, all that had gone through his mind in under a second and then the rest of the information had slapped him. The baby was at risk. That was everything he needed to know to agree with whatever Tsunade thought it was best.
As the Sanin worked with the support of the other two kunoichis, Kakashi kept an eye on her, not even capable of looking at Gai. He didn’t need it, either. The other man’s presence was noticeable from his peripheral vision, and his hold was strong against the Hatake’s hand. Even if Gai was strangely silent, he knew he was there for him.
Time moved slowly and it felt like an eternity until the next words came out from Tsunade’s mouth.
“I’m taking the baby out now.”
A mix of nausea and excitement filled Kakashi as he saw his skin separating enough to let a head come out, quickly followed by the rest of the body. There was no pitch-high cry as he expected, but instead Sakura approached quickly with a clean blanket that was covered in blood and other liquids in no time.
“W-What…?”
“I’m going to clear their airway, sensei, it’ll be just a second.”
Kakashi almost jumped out of the bed upon seeing his student turning away with his baby, but she stopped next to Tsunade, one hand holding them while the other took the utensils given by Shizune. Her movements were fast and precise, working on the baby’s mouth and nose while the umbilical cord was still hanging. A moment later, a cry echoed in the walls, strong and beautiful.
“There you go!” Sakura smiled. “I know from who you got those lungs, baby.”
“Gai, do you want to cut the umbilical cord?” Tsunade asked, hands still working with green ninjutsu on Kakashi’s belly.
“Y-Yeah.”
The taijutsu master moved almost mechanically, eyes not leaving the baby until the distance between him and the Hatake forced him to let of his hand. His sight fell then on Kakashi, as if doubting of releasing the hold. He decided to do him a favor, retreating his fingers and nodding with an exhausted smile.
“Take the scissors and cut in between here” Shizune indicated, handing him the utensil. “That’s it, perfect.”
As soon as the umbilical cord was cut, the world seemed to start moving faster. Sakura stepped a meter away with the baby to let them over a small table where she started the first examination. As much as Kakashi knew all that was necessary, he could not avoid feel anxious. Tsunade’s green chakra became more intense as she worked on him with Shizune’s assistance, but the Hatake still kept his eyes on the baby.
When Sakura finally approached with them still in the dirty blanket and just a hat on their head, he felt tears filling his eyes and his heart beating so fast he thought it would come out of his chest.
“Here you go, sensei, meet your child.”
Yep, he was definitely crying and, judging by the soft noises coming from his side, Gai was as well.
The baby was simply perfect. Very pink and wrinkled and dirty, but perfect. As soon as Gai reacted and helped him to remove the upper part of his medical gown, their child was pressed against his chest as he hold them, the crying stopping soon after.
It was as if the world had stopped. It didn’t matter that Sakura was looking over them like a hawk, ready to intervene at the sight of the smallest problem. Or that Shizune and Tsunade were still working on him. The only thing that mattered was the new life currently on his arms.
Gai’s and his child.
“You… They…” the other man sobbed. “You’re both perfect.”
Kakashi nodded, feeling completed as Gai’s body moved closer to his, leaving the wheelchair and sitting at the end of the mattress with one arm falling over his shoulders and the other resting over the baby’s head, covering it completely. A new feeling appeared wild and strong in the Hatake’s chest, almost like a natural instinct. The desire… No. The need of protecting them. His family. His world.
Gai was overjoyed. And ecstatic. And energized! There was so much energy inside of him that he didn’t even know how he was capable of staying put. Or rather he knew, but didn’t understand. It felt as if, didn’t matter what happened outside of that room, he would never leave as long as his family was there. Not to train, not to fight, not to talk to his students. And he loved his students! But that new feeling was… was something else.
At the moment, the room was empty except for them, the medic nin agreeing they were capacitated enough to detect and call in case any dangerous change appeared. Kakashi had been closed up soon after the birth, recovery set to be fast and without complications if they followed the indicated recommendations. Considering he was a shinobi and he had had the three best medical nin of the country taking care of him, he could choose to go back to work in under a week. Of course, Gai would strongly push against it, as well as Tsunade, Shizune and Sakura had. And, considering one of those women was the assistant of the Hokage, she had promised to make sure he had at least one month of full paternity leave.
So, it was only them and their baby. Their baby.
“What are you thinking about?” his rival asked, shifting slightly.
It was the first time he heard him talking since the birth, before just nodding or shaking his head whenever one of the kunoichis asked him something, as if scared of taking his eyes away from the baby. Now that they were alone, that fear seemed to have minimized.
“I love you” the words escaped Gai’s mouth, his body still pressed against his rival’s. “I love you and I’m so proud of you for this.”
Kakashi chuckled.
“You’re talking as if what I did was a miracle.”
“It is for me.”
From the moment they were left alone in the room, his rival had removed his surgical mask, so it was easy for him to see the soft smile on his lips. Even if the Hatake’s expression was tired, he seemed incredibly satisfied. Just as he should.
“You didn’t panic, and I know you were scared” he continued. “Even after having all our plans broken, you composed yourself and did magnificent, rival. You will make a perfect dad.”
“I would say that’s taking it a little bit to the extreme, Gai” Kakashi softly laughed. “We’re shinobi, so panic doesn’t control us easily. You reacted even ahead of me.”
“Well, yes, but… You were the one going through it, rival, I was just looking. What you did… I believe it’s nothing short of a miracle.”
Instead of trying to refute his words, the Hatake just nodded and moved his eyes back to the baby on his chest. They had been alone for almost an hour, so they had had time to feed them with the donated milk they would be using, but the child refused to fall asleep yet. Their big, black eyes were fixed on Kakashi, as if wanting to remember that face they would probably see more than any other person in the world.
“You know, at the end I had it my way” his rival said, one finger brushing over the baby’s chest. “They have your eyes.”
This time, it was Gai who laughed.
“Yes, but the hair looks like a mix of both of us. Maybe their eyebrows will grow as well.”
The Hatake rolled his eyes at the comment, but he was smiling. Gai moved one hand to accommodate their child’s hat, not wanting them to lose any heat. Underneath it, soft baby hair was mostly grey on top and dark black in the lower part of the head. It seemed smooth at the moment, but he would love to see it growing and become a mane as impossible to tame as his rival’s.
“We still haven’t decided on a name” Kakashi pointed out. “What do you think?”
“Well, of all the names we discussed, I like Keiki and Rei, but if you have other preferences…”
His rival laughed happily and freely, making Gai fall in love with him all over again.
“I can’t believe we have reached an agreement without even talking much about it” he said, adding after seeing his confused face: “I like Rei as well.”
“Oh!” he exclaimed, separating his body just slightly to better look at his rival. “So, we… Uh, have a name for them?”
“Yeah, I believe we do” Kakashi declared, looking down at their child. “Welcome to our lives, Rei.”
Babies did not smile. At least not so soon. Their muscles were simply just not developed enough for it. And still, Gai believed this one did. A prodigy from the beginning.
“Why don’t you hold them for a while?” the Hatake suggested a moment after.
“I would love to! But, uh, are you sure? Sakura said that skin to skin contact was very important for the both of you, so…”
“She said you can do it as well, just remove the upper part of your jumpsuit, Gai” the other man reminded him. “I’m feeling well enough, but my arms are a bit tired and I know you want to hold them, too.”
Of course he did. Jealousy was not usual on Gai, but he had to admit feeling it for the last hour. Therefore, he didn’t hesitate a moment more and stood up —his left leg almost failing him after so long sitting in an awkward position— to start removing his jumpsuit. When the upper part was rolled down over his hips, he sat back on his wheelchair and extended his arms at Kakashi to transfer the baby safely.
Something ignited inside him the second the new weight made pressure against his skin. Rei reacted as well, mumbling a bit before settling again and focus their eyes on Gai.
“Hi” he said, voice slightly trembling. “I’m your papa.”
Rei made a gurgling sound and his heart melted a bit. It was strange, to be so excited that you could do ten thousand push-ups in one go, and still feel uncapable of moving.
As he hummed quietly, he noticed their newborn slowly falling asleep against his chest and Gai felt at peace then. His family was there, safe and protected. Their students and friends would surely come soon to meet Rei, and he gave top another hour before their summons broke into the room, demanding to meet the baby.
He hadn’t had it easy after waking up from opening the Eight Gate. In a couple of occasions, he had even asked for his suffering to end. Now, he was glad they didn’t listen to his words, instead pushing him towards recovery. If that was what it took to be with Kakashi and Rei, he would do it as many times as necessary.

Die A Little Bit (Live A Little More)
“You shouldn’t be here.” Sakura startled, mint green eyes wide with alarm. Heart thumping incessantly against her ribs, adrenaline bleeding in her veins, a screamed birthing and dying at the back of her throat. The derisive snort that echoed throughout the otherwise silent prison cell made her cheeks blush hotly in embarrassment, and she stomped out the burning feelings of anger. She really shouldn’t be down here, and she couldn’t afford to get caught.
And yet, the potential danger of getting caught did not elicit fear or anxiety. All Sakura could feel was an overwhelming wave of both compassion and sorrow. Compassion, because regardless of everything this man has done, she loved him and her heart could not and would not be swayed, and sorrow because of all the tragedy and manipulation and anguish and grief that led him astray and carried his steps until they led him here. Here, being locked away in Konoha’s prison, thrown away like yesterday’s trash. He really was the last living Uchiha, and the thought made Sakura’s eyes sting with tears.
“Don’t tell me you’re crying. And for me of all people? I’m touched.” At least Sasuke’s disdain was a constant that went unchanged. Even bound and chained away, eyes covered with a blindfold inked to the brim with seals that prevented him for using his family’s famed kekkei genkai, normally lithe and muscular frame looking gaunt in a way that made concern thrum through Sakura’s chest, covered in grime and filth and blood?, Sasuke Uchiha radiated an elegance and regality few people could emulate.
He was proud, but Sakura’s keen eyes could tell he was hurting, and she couldn’t stand it, which is what led her here. Naruto, thank gods, was acting as a distraction for her. She only had an hour, and Naruto warned her that she needed to be gone before the Anbu did their routine checkups. He was just as incensed as her, if not more so, and together, they begged and pleaded for Tsunade to let Sasuke go, but the buxom blonde would not be swayed. Sakura adored her teacher, and loved her like a mother, but she did not like how cold she was being. Did she not understand Sasuke’s mindset? Did she not experience grief and injustice from the very system that took away everything from her, only to call her back when they needed her assets again?
If Kakashi were Hokage, he would surely be moved to throw Sasuke a bone, and she and Naruto came to the silent realization that Tsunade must’ve known that and held onto the Hokage hat longer to prevent that. Naruto told her it was a lot of politics involved, and they that they really were leaning towards execution.
Tears dripped down her face without her permission, and she angrily wiped them away. She had no time for tears. She was so tired of crying and being useless. If she had half of Kakashi’s tact or Naruto’s bravery and willpower, she would do something more than slip inside the prison cells and see Sasuke. Wasn’t she trained by the greatest kunoichi alive? And yet she couldn’t muster up half of that monstrous strength to do anything more than sit with him and offer him what? Love? Comfort? Companionship? Since when has Sasuke wanted any of that from anyone, let alone her?
“Sakura.” Her head jerked up, pink locks of hair swirling like sakura petals in a lazily spring breeze, and when would this man relinquish the hold he had on her heart. When would she let him? Even beaten down, frail, and bloodied, he was still so beautiful, so impossibly handsome that she felt her heartbeat running away the longer she looked at him. The wounds from his betrayal stung still, bled faintly, but if she found out her whole clan got slaughtered, that the culprit was her own brother, who was manipulated by the powers that be to carry out such a heinous crime, what would she do?
And then to be paraded around as the Uchiha Prince, groomed for a greatness and destiny he did not consent to? To know that the leader of their village not only knew this, but ordained it and covered it up? She would be beyond angry, and that was putting it lightly. It made her previous comments and behavior toward him all the more childish and embarrassing. How could she not know her teammates were suffering so? Two orphans, children of a prophecy that has led to countless bloodshed and ruin. One held the strongest tailed beast alive sealed within him and ostracized because of it.
“I never wanted any of this for my son, but I had no choice but to do it. His mother was dying and the Kyubi would’ve killed us all within a few years time.”
“What do you mean?”
“Even if we killed him, it would’ve been temporary. He would’ve come back within five years, and without a vessel…” Minato’s voice trailed off, and the threat that hung in the air was ominous. Sakura shivered at the implications his words had. They would’ve been fucked, to put it politely.
“And now he hates me.” Sakura’s body moved before she knew it and her hand gripped his shoulder, green eyes gleaming with understanding.
“He doesn’t. He’s angry and very hurt, but he loves you dearly. Of that much, I know. I’ll talk to him for you, and convince him to speak to you.” And those eyes, bluer than even Naruto’s, shone with relief and happiness.
“My son is lucky to have a dear friend like you. And I’m sure Fugaku’s youngest will warm up to you soon enough. There’s a lot of turbulence and darkness brimming in that young man’s heart. If I hadn’t of died, I would’ve made sure his clan wouldn’t have been vilified and murdered. What was Hiruzen thinking?!” And Sakura couldn’t answer that because nobody understood what went on in the Third Hokage’s head when he came to such an erroneous conclusion. Was genocide really the answer to the Uchiha problem, and why were a whole group of people considered a problem to eradicate in the first place? Were they all were that expendable?
“I’m not used to you being so quiet. You and Naruto could never shut up long enough to hear myself think, and yet all I can hear all not only my thoughts, but yours. I don’t know how you managed to sneak your way inside somewhere so heavily sealed and guarded, but I know you must be on some kind of time limit, and here you are, squandering it by sitting in silence ruminating on things that will do you no good.”
“I’ll ask again: why are you here, Sakura?” Thinking of everything up until now, all the injustice and murder and war and violence, feeling so fucking helpless and useless and unable to make a meaningful impact no matter how valiantly she tried because fear and insecurity continued to grip her in a chokehold, Sakura snapped.
Her hands were reaching for his blindfold, and she broke his seals in mere minutes, her intelligence and tenure as Tsunade’s student paying off. Startled black eyes greeted her, and if things weren’t so dire, if what she was about to do wasn’t so insane, she’d be smug, usher a haughty laugh of her own. See? I am useful. I can get shit done. I don’t need you or Naruto coming to my rescue all the time. I am as good as the two of you. You don’t have to leave me behind because I can keep up with you.
She used that brute strength of hers to break the chains that shackled themselves to him, and when his body inevitably slumped forward, Sakura caught him in her arms, cradling him close to her chest, letting his cheek rest against the swell of her breast.
He took several shuddering breaths, his body trembling from the emotions washing over him, no doubt, and Sakura said nothing, opting to simply hold him and lend him her strength for the time being.
“What are you doing? Why did you… do you not know what will happen to you for not only coming here, but freeing me as well?”
“I don’t care,” was Sakura’s quick retort.
“Well, I do!” was Sasuke’s even quicker response, and his tone was as fiery as the temper his clan was famous for. Sakura flinched despite herself, and Sasuke’s eyes softened. He pressed their foreheads together, and Sakura was not immune to the effect it had on her, face heating up in a soft blush a few shades lighter than her hair.
“Sakura,” he began, tone considerably softer, and where was this energy, this tenderness when she so desperately craved it?, “if you do this, not only will the brand you a traitor as well, but they’ll kill you too. Maybe not, since you have that Senju on your side, but this will not be a good look for you. You and Naruto have bright futures ahead of you. I don’t. This is the end of the line for me, and at least I can die happy knowing that I avenged my clan.”
“And don’t we get a say in anything?! Just because you threw us to the side for you lofty goals for revenge and revolution doesn’t mean we still don’t care about you! What about Naruto, huh? He went through hell and back to save you, and you’re just gonna accept death? What about Kakashi-sensei? Didn’t he take you under his wing? Didn’t he share his very own jutsu with you? Didn’t he try to keep you off that path because he knew this is how it would end?” At that, Sasuke couldn’t help but flinch, head hanging down in shame.
Gloved hands cupped his face and guided his gaze to hers.
“And what about me? Have I not given you all the love I had? My love, my loyalty, my strength, my heart?”
“I didn’t ask for any of that from any of you,” Sasuke feebly denied, but his eyes were telling an entirely different story.
“And you didn’t have to because we all love you. Our team was a toxic disaster and truthfully, we all have room to grow, but at the same time, I can’t think of anyone else I’d rather be teammates with or taught under. I love you all so much, and I just want you to be happy, Sasuke.”
“I can’t be happy in a village that orchestrated my clan’s death and used my brother as the scapegoat. This system is flawed and made to set all of us up for failure. Us ninja are just tools and fodder for those in power who’d rather sacrifice the youth and those who dare to stand up to them instead of fixing the problem from the source,” Sasuke spat, frame trembling with obvious anger.
“Then let’s burn it down, figuratively, and usher in some actual change.” She helped him up and ushered him on her back so she could carry him that way, and she could feel the embarrassment and indignation coming off him in waves, but he didn’t protest. She’d carry him in her arms, but needed her arms free and she was almost positive he would’ve fought her back if she tried that. Hell, he probably would’ve bitten her.
“What do you-?”
“C’mon, Forehead! Hinata and I aren’t getting any younger! Do you know how hard it to focus while you two are confessing your dying love to each other?” Ino’s indignant tone broke whatever moment they were having, and they both blushed, Sasuke hiding his against the skin of the back of her neck, and Sakura hiding hers behind her naturally rosy hair.
“Fuck you, Ino-Pig! I had to convince him to cooperate!”
“You spent more than half the time just staring at him! You could’ve just fucked him, if that’s all you were gonna do! Or at least be a good friend and let me help or something, but you got so touchy when I suggested it, and I wasn’t about to get punched. I’m too pretty to be walking around with a bruised face.” She and Sasuke blushed hotly all over again, and Hinata breaking the jail cell open was a welcome distraction from whatever bullshit Ino was saying.
Lavender eyes peered at the both of them in silent amusement before ushering them outside, Ino leading the front, her and Sasuke in the middle, and Hinata in the rear.
“Temari and Tenten are waiting for us,” she murmured to her, her voice soft and melodious like chiming bells. “Shikamaru and Neji are keeping the guards at bay, and Lee, Shino, and Kiba are with Naruto. They all should be on their way to where we agreed to meet up,” Hinata explained, Byagukan activated and ready to use. Sakura smiled in relief, heart brimming with joy. Meanwhile, Sasuke could only take all of this in silently, annoyed that happiness was blossoming in a heart he thought long dead. They were all crazy and none of this was bound to go over well, but still, his treacherous heart beats with hope.

“(Y/N)..?”
All of the color drained from your face as your eyes rested on the person standing before you. Your heart began to pound intensely against your ribcage. You could practically hear the beat in your ears from how loud it was. In a way, it was almost as if you lost any touch with reality. You completely zoned out, and everything behind you was blurring.
This couldn’t be, there was no way this was actually happening to you right now. You honestly hoped deep down that there was a possibility that this was a dream. You’d have to wake up eventually from it, right?
No, this wasn’t a dream, this was a fucking nightmare.
Your mind began to buzz with many questions. Why the hell was he here? You had done your absolute best to avoid him for as long as you could remember. He had chosen the wrong time to suddenly appear. How did nobody else notice him? Your friends knew who the hell he was, so why didn’t they warn you? Did he slip by unseen the entire time? Did they purposefully choose to not tell you? There were so many things you wanted to ask, but your brain couldn’t come up with a single answer.
You had never felt more nauseous in your entire life. Hell, you figured you’d throw up now to have an excuse to run away and hide.
His reaction seemed almost the exact same as yours. Your eyes were both as wide as saucers. He didn’t seem like he knew what to do, nor did you. It was funny, because what were you supposed to do in this kind of situation?
The person standing before you was someone you hadn’t expected to see at all this year. You went under the assumption that he was gone forever. You didn’t encounter him at all in the first few months on campus, so you figured you were safe. Not to mention, you had Obito right by your side in case anything had gone wrong and you were to come into contact with him. However, you weren’t safe anymore. If anything, you were feeling extremely vulnerable.
It wasn’t Obito, nor was it Kakashi.
It was your ex, Itachi Uchiha.
It felt almost unbelievable that he was here standing directly in front of you. He didn’t look different at all. His long raven-colored hair seemed a few inches longer than before, but, other than that, his features remained the same. It felt like you had just met him for the first time again, because the way Itachi looked at you made it feel like he was staring at a complete stranger.
Your body suddenly snapped back into reality when you felt warm hands touching your arms. Goosebumps appeared on your skin from the contact. It slowly hit you that Itachi had been touching you. You weren’t expecting it at all.
Your eyes slowly fell downward towards the floor. All of your thoughts were scrambled, and you couldn’t think straight whatsoever. There was a side of you that was screaming for you to leave that party as soon as possible. Being in the same room with Itachi of all people made you feel sick to your stomach. You were also finding it to be difficult to breathe. He seemed so intimidating to be around after all of that lost time.
“I-Itachi..” your voice sounded weak, and it disgusted you. Why the hell did you sound like that? All of the words felt like they had gotten caught in your throat.
No, you couldn’t do this right now. He wasn’t supposed to be here. This was a conversation you weren’t ready to have with him yet. Hell, you were prepared to never have it if you were being honest.
Feeling his familiar touch was making you relive everything he had put you through. As much as you thought you were prepared to see him again, you truly weren’t. You couldn’t act like you were happy to see him. The pure image of Itachi standing before you made you want to vomit. All of those horrible memories were pouring into your brain. It was almost like a sign for you to get the fuck away from him.
All you wanted to do was run.
While you were too focused on Itachi, you hadn’t picked up on the pair of eyes that had been staring at you for the last five minutes. He felt more confused than anything, but there was also anger boiling inside of him at the sight of you standing there with some guy and his hands on your body. Did you seriously move on that quickly?
Obito just couldn’t help but linger his gaze longer than he needed to. He knew it was wrong to still feel that heavy feeling of jealousy within his chest, but he had zero clue who the hell that guy was touching you like that.
He also couldn’t help but notice your distressed expression.
He had seen that look previously. You were really upset about something, and he was there to see your facial expression change. It made him question what was going on with you. Was that guy there to comfort you? Those thoughts alone made him pissed off. He wasn’t expecting to see you at the party either. Hell, it had been a while since Obito had seen you around campus with your usual group of friends. He wondered where you had been hanging out. However, you weren’t exactly his concern anymore.
Clearly, you had moved on and found someone new. Obito was glad he didn’t have to deal with anything, but were you happy? Was that guy treating you well?
Who was he to care for you? He knew cutting you off was a good idea. It was the best decision he made for the both of you.
“What the hell is he doing here..?”
Obito turned his head to see Kakashi standing just a couple of feet next to him. He had no idea he slipped inside of the house, but that wasn’t the concerning part. The thing that alarmed Obito was the expression on Kakashi’s face. He seemed angry, almost furious at something. He knew he shouldn’t have cared, but seeing the fact that Kakashi was looking over at you and that mysterious guy made him wonder what was going on.
His attention quickly left Kakashi to look at where you were standing. The guy seemed to be trying to speak to you. He actually stepped backward so he could look at your face. There was something that wasn’t sitting right with Obito. His gut was telling him that there was clearly something wrong, but he didn’t know what it was.
The other fact that Kakashi seemed alarmed as well was also extremely off putting. Did he somehow know the guy?
His eyes suddenly grew wide as he saw you suddenly shove past the guy. You practically darted outside the front door, and the guy who was with you seemed shocked. From what Obito witnessed, he could tell there was definitely something wrong with you. He hadn’t ever seen you rush off like that.
Before he was able to process it, Kakashi flew past him to head towards the front door. He actually had to dodge a few people as he ran to his destination. This action had made Obito even more curious than before. It was honestly no surprise that he was going after you. After all, the two of you had hooked up not even a week ago, so obviously he had some kind of care for you. It pissed Obito off even more knowing that fact. It wouldn’t shock him if the two of you had some kind of thing now. You were always so obsessed with keeping all of your things not serious.
He rolled his eyes at the thought, but he decided to follow after Kakashi. His curiosity had gotten the best of him, but he didn’t want to be seen. If he was caught, he didn’t want to face the repercussions from Kakashi on what he was doing.
Obito made sure to keep some distance between him and Kakashi. He didn’t want to make it seem like he had been following him, or becoming nosy all of the sudden. There were several people who had been standing around the entrance who witnessed what had gone down between you and that guy. They seemed to be gossiping with one another about what they had seen. It made Obito question what the two of you had said to each other. Did he make you uncomfortable or something?
He had eventually made it to the front door. There were a couple of people outside talking with one another. However, he had yet to spot where Kakashi was. He hoped that he hadn’t disappeared somewhere where it would be easy to spot him. He wanted to know what the fuck was going on. Obito knew it wasn’t right of him to shove himself into business that had to do with you, but he was interested.
Stepping outside, the warm air surrounded his skin. His eyes scanned the front lawn before him to see where his gray-haired companion had gone. He also searched for the mysterious guy who had been talking to you earlier in the evening.
Obito slowly went down the concrete steps that led to the path towards the driveway. He turned his head both ways to see if there was a chance that Kakashi was somewhere on the side of the house, or on the grass. However, neither of those possibilities was the case.
Where the hell did he go?
As he was about to turn the corner to head towards the driveway, his steps were immediately halted once his eyes landed on Kakashi talking to someone. Obito quickly moved to where he was now standing behind the wall around the corner. It was clear that he was talking to whoever that guy was, because there was no way Obito could miss that long hair of his.
“Why the fuck are you here?”
His eyes grew wide from how harsh Kakashi’s tone was. He knew he was the confrontational type, but he wasn’t expecting it to come out to someone he didn’t know. It made that question inside Obito’s mind burn more. Did Kakashi somehow know the guy who was talking to you? Hell, speaking of you, where were you at? He hadn’t seen you outside, so did you possibly go home? It wouldn’t surprise him one bit if you did.
He decided to focus all of his attention on the conversation beside him. He was in too deep with the shit that was going on.
“What do you mean why the fuck am I here? I party here often, Kakashi, you should know this by now,” Itachi’s eyebrows were furrowed at his teammate's sudden aggression. He had known Kakashi for almost two years, and he hadn’t ever seen him act that way towards him before.
Kakashi rolled his eyes at Itachi and his stupidity. It was clearly obvious why Kakashi was angry with him. He didn’t want him to come into contact with you. After all he had put you through, it was better for the two of you to remain strangers for the rest of time.
He didn’t want to fight with him, but Kakashi didn’t want Itachi near you whatsoever. “Itachi.. you need to stay away from (Y/N). I know you’re looking for her,” he spoke, “Just leave her alone, you’ve already done enough to make her unhappy. She doesn’t need you,”
The Uchiha standing before him had this look of shock written on his features. He didn’t expect to hear such words from Kakashi. From what Itachi could remember, he didn’t think you were friends with Kakashi of all people. Sure, he had a pretty big reputation on campus, but you never seemed familiar with his teammate while you were both dating.
It made Itachi wonder what your history was with one another.
However, anger was beginning to swirl inside of him. Kakashi had no idea what the dynamic was like between you and him. He had no right trying to become between the two of you, because, to be frank, he wasn’t your problem at the end of the day. You and Itachi had business to take care of. He wasn’t about to let you walk away again. Though, judging by Kakashi’s reaction, you must have informed him of the events that took place before school had ended last semester.
God, you had such a big mouth sometimes.
Itachi lifted his eyes to meet Kakashi and his serious expression. He was running out of time to find you. There was a chance that you possibly left and went home, and Itachi didn’t have a single clue where you were staying now.
“What the fuck do you know about anything? I know her better than anybody else, so stay the fuck out of it, Kakashi,” he scoffed, “Get the fuck out of my way, man. I can’t even talk to my own ex without weird fuckboys getting in the way,”
Obito’s eyes grew as wide as saucers when he realized what Itachi had just said. The way he talked about you made so much sense. The moment he said the word “ex” had answered so many questions inside of his head.
Obito’s mind began to replay the argument he had with Kakashi over you when he first found out that the two of you hooked up. The way he had mentioned someone else had confused Obito for a while. He had assumed he was talking about something stupid, but he didn’t think Kakashi meant he had cleanned up a mess your ex had made. The information he had just learned made him feel sick to his stomach. You didn’t have sex with Kakashi just because you wanted to, but, instead, he was simply a rebound to help you feel better about a breakup.
The overwhelming guilt began to take over Obito. He never imagined he would feel this wrong over a situation. Not only was he a shitty person to you, but he was an even shittier friend to Kakashi.
There was no way he could come up from this. He had practically tarnished every single memory between the two of you. He felt terrible, and there was no possible way the two of you would forgive him for what he did. He said disgusting things about you and Kakashi, and he even hurt his best friend physically over everything. How could he be such an idiot? Why didn’t he hear you or Kakashi out?
Obito realized he was no victim. The both of you were.
He placed his palm against his forehead. He didn’t know where the hell you were, but Obito wanted to speak with you. He also became worried about you. It was nearing the middle of the night. You weren’t supposed to be out there by yourself at this time of evening.
“Fuck.. I’m such a shitty friend..” he whispered to himself as he stared down at the rocks beneath his feet.
He wasn’t sure how he’d be able to fix things between you or even Kakashi for that matter. He didn’t even know if the two of you could ever forgive him for what he’s done. You probably hated him for everything. In all honesty, it was deserved on Obito’s part. You would probably never forgive him if he ever apologized. How could he do this to you and Kakashi? The two of you deserved better than the things he did to you both.
He had to do something, and fast.
Obito’s eyes lifted off of the ground when he saw Kakashi storm past him. There was this angry aura that was emitting from him. Thankfully, he didn’t seem to notice his presence. It then made Obito wonder where the hell Itachi went. He took it upon himself to peer down the corner he was hiding himself behind. His onyx eyes widened when he noticed that Itachi was gone. Where the hell could he have gone off to? Was he searching for you? It was a possibility and those thoughts alone made Obito nervous.
More importantly, where the hell were you?
Well, you were practically speed walking your way down the sidewalk that led to your university campus.
Seeing Itachi made you feel sick. You were in such disbelief that you thought you were dreaming as you left the frat house. You managed to avoid your ex-boyfriend for almost four or five months. How could he show himself at a time like this? You believed in coincidences, but this was one you wished didn’t happen to you.
You were a mess right now. Your makeup was for sure smudged, your eyes felt puffy from the crying you did as you walked away from him, and, most of all, you felt sick. It took everything inside of you to not throw up the food you had several hours prior. You were very paranoid, more paranoid than you’d like to be. There was a chance that he’d try and find you on campus. Itachi knew who your friends were. He had a way of getting what he wanted, especially when it came to you. It made you scared, and you felt so helpless. You didn’t want to deal with him. Your life had been perfect up until now. Sure, the whole Obito thing had really messed with your head, but this was the icing on the cake. Nothing compared to your cheating asshole ex coming back without any warning.
The wind danced through the air, earning several shivers to ghost down your spine. You didn’t realize how chilly the air had become all of the sudden. However, you were close to your apartment complex. All you wanted to do was disappear from everything. You wanted to crawl into your bed and sleep tonight. However, you had high doubts that you would get any rest at all. Every single detail was fresh inside of your mind. It was haunting you and making your heart jump inside of your chest.
You were about to cross the street when your ears perked at the sound of gravel grinding against the street. Your head turned towards the left side of the street. There was a car parked, and it was quickly shut off. Your eyes widened when you noticed the vehicle’s features. Your heart began thumping rapidly at the sight.
You couldn’t fucking believe he followed you here.
Your nerves kicked into gear and you began to rush across the street so you could get yourself far away from him. You could feel your hands trembling and your mind beginning to race. You wouldn’t be shocked if you passed out from the anxiety.
“(Y/N)! Please, wait! I need to talk to you!” you could hear his footsteps getting closer to you. It only made your feet quicken. He was so close, there was no one here to stop him or save you from this conversation.
Your entire body was brought to a halt when his hand wrapped around your arm. Itachi’s grip was tight, had he gotten stronger since then? He practically forced you to turn around and face him. His features didn’t seem to change at all. Being that close to him made goosebumps appear on your skin. He had this intense gaze that intimidated you. There was this look in his eyes that told you he was stressed. Something was bothering him, and he felt comforted by your face.
Every cell inside of your body was telling you to run away from him. You wanted to get as far away as possible from Itachi. However, his iron grip on your arm was preventing you from wiggling out of his grasp.
Swallowing thickly, your brain scrambled to find some type of response to him. You wanted to remain silent so badly. Itachi didn’t necessarily deserve to hear your words, because you already told him everything on your chest all those months ago. You didn’t owe him anything else at the end of the day. He had some nerve expecting you to hear him out after all of this time. You felt better off without Itachi in the picture.
You took a deep breath. Your eyes finally locked onto his. A part of you was scared to say something, but you didn’t want to be that afraid girl who couldn’t stick up for herself. “Itachi..” your voice was strong, “Let go of me, right now.. I swear to god I am not afraid to scream and call someone,”
His eyes widened when your words filled his head. He didn’t say a word as he loosened his hand which was around your arm. If anything, he seemed upset by your response. All Itachi wanted was to speak with you. However, he wasn’t going to make himself seem like the bad guy. He wasn’t trying to be at all.
Itachi chewed on his bottom lip while his eyes rested on your face. “I just.. I wanted to talk to you,” he sounded calmer now, his voice didn’t sound as chaotic as it did when he first ran up to you.
You let out a shaky breath. You could feel the tears burning your vision. God, you fucking hated crying over everything. You didn’t want Itachi to see you start bawling your eyes out. He had already seen that sight enough. All of the shit that happened tonight was so fucking overwhelming for you. It honestly shocked you that you didn’t have a heart attack from the stress of it all.
Sniffling, you wiped a stray tear that slipped down your cheek. You shook your head as you stared at him. “I mean this in the most disrespectful way possible..” you started which made Itachi look at you, “But please stay the fuck away from me..”
Before he could process your words, you turned around immediately to head in the opposite direction of your ex-boyfriend. Your feet were quick on the pavement below you, and you honestly almost felt like running from how panicked you were. It was also the dead of night. There wasn’t a single good soul out there. Despite that thought, you kept pushing away from him. You wanted to put as much distance as possible between you and Itachi.
The muscles in your legs burned from how quickly you were walking. You had even almost tripped a few times, but nothing stopped you from reaching your apartment building. You were so relieved to have finally arrived. It felt like forever, but you had finally made it.
You rushed towards the front entrance. There wasn’t a single person around the complex. It was kind of eerie to see it so quiet. Usually, the building was full of life and there would be many students making their way to their classes, or people coming home after long days of work. However, at the moment, there wasn’t any activity. It made sense though, because it was already the middle of the night.
You turned down the hallway to your own apartment. Your hands were shoved into your pocket to fish out the key you used to unlock the door. You could see how shaky your hands were. It took you a second to shove the key into the lock, but, after several seconds, you heard the click of the lock.
Opening the door, you quickly stepped inside of your apartment. You let out a deep breath that you didn’t even know you were holding. It felt like for just a moment you could actually breathe and focus on something. However, it didn’t last long, because the anxiety that Itachi was now around searching for you hit you like a bus. What was he looking to say to you? What if you had stayed in front of him instead of walking away? The whole thing was eating you up inside and you didn’t know what to do.
You turned around to lock the door of your apartment before removing your shoes and placing your key onto the key holder beside the door. You then walked down the corridor that led to your bedroom. In all honesty, you didn’t have any energy to even change out of your clothes or take your makeup off. You felt drained, more drained than you’ve ever felt in a long time.
You stepped into your bedroom, shutting the door behind you. You dragged your feet as you walked over to your bed. Your limbs honestly felt heavy and there was this sudden wave of sleepiness that rushed over you when you sat down on the mattress.
You lied down on your bed. Once your head hit the pillow, your eyes shut almost instantly. All of the stress from today filled your mind, but you were too tired to even think of anything.
Maybe this was a nightmare. Maybe you would wake up tomorrow morning with no recollection of this and Itachi wouldn’t have been present at all at the party. Hell, maybe you had too much to drink and you imagined the entire conversation.
Deep down, you were hoping for either of those possibilities.

Tumblr media
sooo i’m glad u like it!! a lot of thought went into it, and actually creating it did take me a long time 🥲🥲

Crawling Back to Me
Jiraiya x NarutoMotherFigure!Reader x ???
Synopsis: You had broken things off with the Sannin, but when he arrived back in Konoha 2 years later - you were feeling things you wished you didn't.
Song: Guilt by Nero (Link: https://music.youtube.com/watch?v=r1ATFedwjnk&feature=share)
Tumblr media
He angered you, angered you more than you'd like to admit. "You could go talk to him... You know?" Kakashi muttered, annoyed with the way you were ignoring him. You let out a huff, arms crossing as you looked at the white-haired man beside you. "I can't just go talk to him, Kashi... I broke it off remember"
Kakashi let out a hum, he knew quite well how that convo went down two years ago. There was a lot of screaming, crying, and throwing of shoes. You two were toxic for each other, so he wasn't sure why you wanted to talk to the idiot across the field. You turned back to watch Jiraiya as he walked Naruto through a couple of moves. "I just wish he would just, I don't know-"
"Beg for you back?"
"Yes! Exactly!! That's exactly how I-"
Your mouth slammed shut as you turned to face a disappointed Kakashi. He didn't have to say anything, the look in his eyes alone told you that what you were wishing for was not okay. "What did he do to you again?"
His question didn't mean to come out condescending, but it did anyway. You pursed your lips before facing forward. Your eyes dropped to the gravel below your feet, what did you break up with him for? He didn't cheat, never hurt you in any way... There had to have been a reason though.
Kakashi's glare softened as he took in the way your face crinkled in pain. "Why don't you go talk to him..." his hand went to your back, rubbing at it in the hopes it would alleviate some of the angst coursing through your bloodstream. "He won't listen to me, I don't think I deserve the chance to talk to him-"
"Hey"
Both you and Kakashi looked up in shock. You were so focused on trying to remember why you broke it off and Kakashi was so focused on you that neither one of you saw or heard the man walking towards you. "Jiraiya" you breathed out, eyes sparkling hopefully as he towered over you. "Naruto needs some supplies for our next trip. Can you get them for him before we leave?"
Kakashi bit back a snarl as he watched your face fall into a deeper pain, a pain that you felt throughout your entire body, one he knew all too well. "Ya." You whispered as your eyes drifted to Kakashi. The disbelief and agony written all over your face had him fighting the urge to pummel the man before him for making you feel this way.
"Thanks" he stated simply before turning to leave. "That's it? You aren't even going to ask her how she's been?"
"Kashi" you whimpered out, hand flying to his wrist as he took off after the older man. Jiraiya stopped in his tracks, head-turning just enough so you both could see his glare. "I have nothing to do with her. Not anymore" the snarl that flew from his lips had you shaking in both anger and fear. You understood that he probably didn't want to see you ever again, but to this extent?
"You're a fucking asshole-"
"Kakashi" you warned again as passerby's started looking your way. Jiraiya turned finally to face the other white-haired man. Kakashi broke free from your grip and stepped forward, both sizing the other up as if threatening the other to back down.
"I don't think you deserved her from the start" Kakashi snapped out, finally having enough of the asshole before him. "What, and you did?" Jiraiya bit back, "I know you had a pathetic little crush on her, yet you weren't the one who got in her pants. I was"
Your eyes widened in shock at the way Jiraiya spoke about you, it was disgusting. If this is how he talked about you in front of you, "Jiraiya" you stated firmly, the way you spit his name out was venomous, as if it left a bad taste in your mouth. "If you speak about me like that, or any woman for that matter, in front of Naruto... And he picks up that language... I will pull him from your training and ensure he will never see you again, do you understand me?"
Jiraiya's eyebrow shot up in surprise, he wasn't used to this side of you. But, deciding to let it go, he backed down from Kakashi. He turned once more to leave, and this time Kakashi let him.
Kakashi's eyes met yours, softening at the once again sad look in your eyes. He was hoping the anger you just had would persist, but it would seem that the only thing you were feeling was angst. "Let's go home Kakashi..." you whispered, chancing a glance towards the field once more to see Naruto waving at you. You didn't know if your threat was real or not, but it didn't matter.
"Naruto won't be like him" Kakashi seemed to always know where your mind was heading, and he knew what to do to stop the train of thoughts. You nodded at him, it was true, and you knew that but the urge to pull him from the older man was stronger than ever.
"I just wish I was strong enough to train him myself"
Kakashi nodded at that, you had felt that way for a long time, even before meeting Jiraiya. Deciding that enough was enough, you raised your hand and waved back to Naruto who you could hear let out a happy squeal at the wave. A smile formed on your lips as you shook your head - "That kid is nothing and will be nothing like him because you're the one raising him."
You smiled sweetly at Kakashi, before remembering something that Jiraiya had said.
"I know you had a pathetic little crush on her"
You didn't know if it was true, you were silently hoping it was though. "Hey" you breathed out finally, ignoring your brain as it screamed for you to stop. But you couldn't, you had to get the words out because you had been dreaming of a chance like this. "I feel like we need to talk about what he said..."
Kakashi's eyebrows furrowed, but the confusion on his face was quickly replaced by understanding. His cheeks grew red, eyes looking everywhere but at you as he tried to fight off the panic rising in him.
"So it is true" you beamed, fingers playing with one another as you stepped towards him. This was it, for years you had loved him but pushed it down for fear of him not loving you back. "Can I be honest with you?"
He finally met your e/c eyes, and the way you were looking at him made his stomach flip. Grabbing his hands, you leaned in closer to his face. The tension was thick and it had him mentally begging and pleading for you to say anything at all. He expected a rejection, but he wasn't expecting the four words about to fly from your mouth. The four words he didn't know he needed to hear. You took a deep, shaky breath, dreamy smile plastered onto your face as your lips hovered by his ear.
"I feel the same"

im absolutely frothing at the mouth over kakashis chronicles (a boys life on the battlefield) like they start off with him being a pissy little stickler about obito being late, contrasting starkly to the first time we even meet adult kakashi way back when he was late to pick up team 7!! LIterally right off the bat they are establishing that kakashi has changed deeply and irrevocably, and hinting that theyre gonna explain why soon
and then we get the bit about following rules and after rin gets kidnapped obito looks back at him and says, a ninja who abandons even one of his comrades is worse than scum to me. and thats what kakashi says to team 7 on their first mission when they get thrown in wayyy over their heads facing zabuza??
and THEN obito goes and says that he thinks the white fang is the real hero? hello?? HELLO?? his FATHER who fuckin offed himself because he got villified by the village for saving his teammates over prioritizing the mission and dragging out the whole war?? I KNOW it was said in a manipulative ass way but come ON this is a formative moment for kakashi realizing that maybe he understands his dads choices and he doesnt believe he would truly make a different decision, even if it leads him down the same path??
jesus fuckin christ the parallels have been building since the BEGINNING god kishimoto is one of the best fuckin angst writers out there i cant take this im wailing screaming crying throwing up rn

Please do not feel as though you need to publish a response to this. I am aware I am just babbling at you.
Hello. It’s the person who lost and then refound your CBAA series.
I forgot how intense parallax is. I am actually going to need to stretch after I finish reading it again because all of my muscles are tensed 😭. The ryuchi cave scene… good gods. The whole aftermath of the partial evisceration up to the removal of the genjutsu is quite honestly one of my favourite things I have read in fanfiction and also fiction in general. I can’t really articulate why but it really resonated with me. I am probably going to sound insane here but I have younger siblings and the borderline incomprehensible devotion that ordeal took, to me is totally comprehensible. Also nothing anywhere near the scale of that injury but I’ve had a few instances of internal bleeding (and some severe wounds that were unrelated to the internal bleeding) and there were… physical sensations, we shall say, that I could viscerally remember and so that whole arc just really got me. Anyway I came here to yell you because I just reached the part where Danzo is interrogated and that was honestly GENIUS. Your mind is so powerful. Shisui is deranged your honour. Also I am utterly enamoured with your characterisation of itachi, sasuke², shisui, and kakashi. Not just through their perspective but from how they are viewed by others. I am actually quaking. The depth you have given every moment in this fic is stunning. The seamless way you’ve inserted instances of humour into tragedy and suspense is i m p e c c a b l e. I love love love the character dynamics and the grace and respect you have given each character that has been given focus (I’m not entirely sure how to phrase what I mean here but I hope you understand somewhat). The imagery is stunning as well. This whole thing is so masterfully done. I love the attention to detail of everything and the research that must doubtlessly have gone into this, whether intentionally done or from know you already have. Screaming crying and throwing up this is so good. So so good. Anyway I am now going back to continue finishing reading.
You fool, I LOVE babbling. I actually love live-tweeting (or live-responding) more than any other form of review. It makes me so excited to see how other people's brains interpret my work and how it makes them feel.
The cave scene is WILD. I remember coming up with the idea and how excited I was to execute it. I was always afraid the way I was detailing it would undersell it, so I think I ended going up far too in depth with detail. The similarities to Seppuku should not be ignored as well.
I'm so sorry for the pain you have personally felt. I personally do not have any younger siblings, but I do have fierce devotion to those I hold special and I tried to use that and show it the best I could.
Danzo- I tried to make that arc as surreal and mystical as I could. To make it as terrifying and out-of-depths as we all felt in the first story. I'm very pleased with that, but every time I read it I felt it could have been written better. I think I was equally excited to write it and publish it as you were to read it.
I want every character to be fleshed out. They aren't simply there for plot, they are unique and deserved to be examined. Everyone is different, and I wanted to portray that with no "bashing" in any way at all. I love throwing in humour, it's one of my favourite things to add in situational hilarious moments. I've won a few poetry contests, which I am sure you can tell with my writing style.
Screaming, crying, hope you get to the end
