Strategic Planning Frameworks: A Comprehensive Guide to Business Success
Source: Yuri_Arcurs from Getty Images Signature
Today’s world is more business-orientated, so an organization should be more alert and welcoming of new ideas if it wishes to grow. One of the key tools that could improve your business game is strategic planning. Regardless if you are a start-up firm or a well-established business, having a clear roadmap will help you achieve your long-term goals. At the center of this roadmap is strategic planning frameworks. These frameworks act as a structural approach to develop, evaluate, and implement strategies that make a business successful.
In this article, we will get an overview of five popular strategic planning frameworks, their benefits, and how they can be used to improve business performance.
What Are Strategic Planning Frameworks?
Before discussing specific types, let’s simplify what Strategic Planning Frameworks are. A strategic planning frameworks is a guide that helps a business determine how to assign its resources, align with its vision, and achieve its goals efficiently. They offer an organized way to think about commercial goals, identify key challenges, and decide on the best course of action.
Different frameworks cater to various types of businesses and objectives, making it vital for leaders to choose one that fits their specific needs. The right framework makes sure that all stakeholders have a clear understanding of the company’s direction and are aligned in their efforts.
1. SWOT Analysis
One of the most widely recognized strategic planning frameworks is the SWOT Analysis. It stands for Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats, and it provides a clear picture of an organization’s internal and external environment.
How It Works:
Strengths and Weaknesses: These represent internal factors, such as what the organization excels at (strengths) and areas needing improvement (weaknesses).
Opportunities and Threats: These are external factors. Opportunities highlight potential markets or partnerships, while threats could include competition, changing regulations, or economic downturns.
Benefits:
SWOT is simple to understand and apply, making it accessible for businesses of all sizes. It allows companies to focus on their strengths while mitigating weaknesses and preparing for external risks.
Application:
A small tech startup could use SWOT to evaluate how its innovative product (strength) might help it penetrate a competitive market (opportunity) while considering its lack of capital (weakness) and large competitors (threats).
2. Balanced Scorecard
Developed in the 1990s by Dr. Robert Kaplan and Dr. David Norton, the Balanced Scorecard is a holistic strategic planning framework that balances financial and non-financial metrics. This framework encourages companies to not only focus on financial performance but also on customer satisfaction, internal processes, and organizational learning.
How It Works:
The framework divides goals into four key areas:
Financial Perspective: How does the organization appear to shareholders?
Customer Perspective: How do customers see the company?
Internal Processes: What are the business processes that need improvement?
Learning and Growth: How is the company improving its ability to innovate?
Benefits:
The Balanced Scorecard ensures that businesses don’t focus solely on short-term financial outcomes but also on long-term value creation by improving processes, fostering innovation, and maintaining customer satisfaction.
Application:
A retail business may use the Balanced Scorecard to track its progress on enhancing customer loyalty (customer perspective), streamlining supply chain operations (internal process), and investing in employee training (learning and growth) while maintaining profitability (financial perspective).
3. PEST Analysis
PEST Analysis is another powerful strategic planning framework that focuses on the external macro-environment factors affecting a business. It stands for Political, Economic, Social, and Technological factors.
How It Works:
Political: Examines government policies, tax laws, and regulations that could impact the business.
Economic: Looks at economic trends such as inflation, interest rates, and unemployment rates.
Social: Considers demographic trends, cultural attitudes, and lifestyle changes.
Technological: Analyzes technological advancements that could create opportunities or disrupt the business.
Benefits:
PEST Analysis is invaluable for businesses looking to expand into new markets or adapt to changing environmental factors. It helps companies stay ahead of the curve by understanding broader trends that may impact their success.
Application:
A global e-commerce company looking to enter the Indian market might use PEST to evaluate the country’s political stability, growing middle-class consumer base, and rapid digital transformation, allowing them to tailor their entry strategy accordingly.
4. Porter’s Five Forces
Porter’s Five Forces, developed by Michael Porter, is a strategic planning framework used to assess the competitive forces within an industry. It helps businesses understand the intensity of competition and the profitability of an industry.
How It Works:
The Five Forces are:
Threat of New Entrants: How easy is it for new players to enter the market?
Bargaining Power of Suppliers: How much power do suppliers have in influencing the price of inputs?
Bargaining Power of Buyers: How much power do customers have in influencing prices?
Threat of Substitute Products: Are there alternative products that could replace your offerings?
Industry Rivalry: What is the level of competition among existing players?
Benefits:
Porter’s Five Forces is ideal for businesses looking to understand their competitive environment and identify potential threats and opportunities within their industry. It provides insights into how to position the company for long-term success.
Application:
A telecom company could use Porter’s Five Forces to evaluate how competitive the market is, the potential for new players, and how much power customers and suppliers have. This helps in developing strategies to stay competitive.
5. OKR (Objectives and Key Results)
https://enterprisewired.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/1.3-OKR-Objectives-and-Key-Results-Image-by-Funtap-from-Getty-Images.jpg
OKR is a goal-setting strategic planning framework popularized by companies like Google. It helps organizations define clear objectives and track the progress of key results, ensuring alignment across teams.
How It Works:
Objective: What do you want to achieve? Objectives should be ambitious yet achievable.
Key Results: How will you measure progress? Key results should be specific, measurable, and time-bound.
Benefits:
OKRs promote transparency and alignment within teams, fostering a culture of accountability and focus. By setting measurable goals, organizations can track their performance and make necessary adjustments in real time.
Application:
A tech startup could set an objective to increase market share in the next quarter, with key results such as achieving 10,000 new users and increasing website traffic by 30%. This aligns teams and provides a clear focus.
Choosing the Right Framework
Selecting the appropriate strategic planning framework depends on several factors, including the size of your business, the industry, and the specific challenges you face. For instance, a startup looking for quick growth might prefer OKR or SWOT, while a large organization focused on long-term sustainability might find the Balanced Scorecard more suitable.
Incorporating the right strategic planning framework into your business strategy enables you to make informed decisions, stay ahead of competitors, and ensure that your resources are allocated efficiently. Whether you’re analyzing internal strengths or external market trends, these frameworks provide a roadmap for achieving business excellence.
Conclusion
Strategic planning frameworks are vital tools for the company that are working towards navigating through the complications of the business world. By implementing these frameworks such as SWOT, balanced scorecard, PEST Analysis, Porter’s Five Forces, and OKRs any organization can line up their goals, observe their improvement, and adjust to the changing work environment. The path to success lies in choosing and applying the right framework that aligns with your organization’s needs and ideas.

A Comprehensive Journey into Objectives and Key Results (OKRs)
In the dynamic landscape of today's business world, organizations are constantly seeking effective frameworks to align their teams, set ambitious goals, and drive performance. Objectives and Key Results (OKRs) have emerged as a powerful methodology to help businesses articulate and achieve their objectives. In this comprehensive exploration, we delve into the essence of OKRs, shedding light on their significance and how BullseyeEngagement's OKR solutions elevate goal-setting and performance tracking.
Understanding Objectives and Key Results (OKRs)
Objectives and Key Results (OKRs) is a goal-setting framework that originated in Intel and was later popularised by companies like Google. At its core, OKRs provide a simple yet powerful approach to setting and achieving goals. Objectives represent the ambitious and qualitative outcomes an organization aims to accomplish, while Key Results are specific, measurable, and time-bound indicators that signify progress towards the Objectives.
The OKR framework encourages transparency, collaboration, and alignment across an organization, breaking down silos and fostering a shared sense of purpose. It's a flexible system that allows companies to adapt quickly to changing market conditions while keeping the entire organization focused on common goals.
The OKR Framework in Action
To illustrate the practical application of Objectives and Key Results, consider a technology company with an Objective to "Improve Customer Satisfaction." The corresponding Key Results could include metrics such as "Increase Net Promoter Score (NPS) by 15 points," "Decrease average customer response time by 20%," and "Achieve a 90% customer issue resolution rate within 24 hours."
By defining clear and measurable Key Results aligned with the overarching Objective, teams can stay focused on what truly matters, ensuring that their efforts contribute directly to the organization's success.

Politics and Business: Navigating Instability in Eastern Europe
by Eastern European Institute for Trade
Eastern European nations face a myriad of challenges as they strive to balance political instability with economic development. This volatile landscape poses significant obstacles for businesses, both local and foreign, as they navigate a complex web of regulations, corruption, and political risk (Pop-Eleches & Tucker, 2011; EBRD, 2020). In this article, we delve into the causes of instability, the implications for businesses operating in the region, and potential strategies for managing the risks associated with political turbulence.
Political instability in Eastern Europe can be attributed to a multitude of factors, including weak governance, high levels of corruption, and ongoing tensions between European Union (EU) aspirations and the influence of Russia (Pop-Eleches & Tucker, 2011; Börzel & Lebanidze, 2017). This instability creates an uncertain business environment, marked by policy unpredictability, regulatory inconsistencies, and heightened risks for investors (EBRD, 2020).
The implications of political instability for businesses operating in Eastern Europe are manifold. Investment decisions may be hindered by a lack of transparency and predictability in regulatory frameworks, while companies face increased operating costs due to corruption and bureaucratic inefficiencies (Slinko et al., 2005; EBRD, 2020). Additionally, geopolitical tensions and the potential for conflict create security risks, further complicating business operations (Börzel & Lebanidze, 2017).
To successfully navigate the complexities of the Eastern European business environment, companies must adopt a proactive approach to managing political risk. This entails conducting thorough due diligence, engaging in strategic planning to anticipate potential scenarios, and fostering strong relationships with local stakeholders (Pop-Eleches & Tucker, 2011; KPMG, 2016). Moreover, businesses should consider diversifying their operations and investments to mitigate the impact of regional instability (KPMG, 2016).
International actors, such as the EU and the International Monetary Fund (IMF), also have a critical role to play in promoting stability and economic growth in Eastern Europe. By providing financial assistance and technical expertise, these organizations can support the implementation of reforms aimed at strengthening governance, combating corruption, and fostering a more predictable business environment (Pop-Eleches & Tucker, 2011; EBRD, 2020).
In conclusion, political instability in Eastern Europe poses significant challenges for businesses. To navigate this uncertain landscape, companies must adopt a proactive approach to managing risk, while international actors should support regional efforts to improve governance and promote stability. By working together, businesses and policymakers can foster a more predictable and conducive environment for economic growth and investment in the region.

I keep seeing posts about how Jason should have chara development that makes sense regarding his morals and stop killing because of that rather than because Bruce told him to stop and like - it's not like I disagree. Of course, that would be great. Of course I want him to be written his age by writers that like him and have development that makes sense and work with Bruce and Dick and evolve on his own as a person.
But the thing is.
A few weeks ago I saw a critique of His Dark Materials that was so absurdly daft it made me want to peel my skin off. For context, His Dark Materials by Philip Pullman is a children/young adult book set in fantasy worlds that doubles as a retelling of Paradise Lost in which Lucifer wins, and criticism of christianism is preponderant in it. (This will spoil a good part of book 1 of HDM btw). I'm far from a HDM fan, I saw a few episodes of the adaptation and read it once when I was ten and thought the characters and world was fun but the rhythm in the 2nd and 3rd books was off and I didn't like the ending, so like it was fun but I definitely not a re-read for me. But the point is, this critique clearly had a degree in not getting the fucking point, because his arguments against the books clearly stemmed from an inability to shift his viewpoint out of the christian framework (I promise this is still a Jason post). One of his most ludicrous argument was the lack of character depth in HDM. This is particularly silly because one of the main characters, Mrs Coulters, is one of the most interesting complex characters I've ever seen in fiction. Now Mrs Coulters is interesting because she is a bad guy. Like, tortures and kills children level of bad guy. She doesn't magically grow to sacrifice herself in the name of martyrdom to repent for her sins or something silly like that; but still, she sometimes does very good, helpful things for the characters, because the tension between her character is between her ambition (and her faith though that's more questionable) and her motherhood, as she truly loves and cares for her daughter, one of the protagonists, and wants a better, safer world for her. Now the critique claimed that there was no character depth because there was no concept of sin and no redemption arcs in the books- but those are utterly Christian concepts, so of course they wouldn't be endorsed by a book that challenges their validity. Just because Mrs Coulters doesn't have a redemption arc doesn't mean she isn't deep; and the fact that she does good things not out of morality but out of love is what makes her a fascinating character.
So, thinking about that asinine critique, I was suddenly struck with the realization that Jason is somehow similar to Mrs Coulters in that he is a very loving person who tends to put his personal connexions above everything else (of course, he doesn't experiment on and torture children, that's not what I'm saying). My point is, I don't think why we shouldn't have a Jason who evolves not moved by his morals (though he has them and they matter) but by his love. The point of Death in the Family is Jason wanted to be loved and have a family and trying to shield Sheila's body with his and telling her he loved her. The point of UTRH is Jason doing horrible things in the most theatrical, strategically planned mental breakdown as begging for proof of love because he can't reconcile being loved in a different way that he loves and because he can't understand someone putting their moral code over love. And as much as RHATO #25 fills me up with dread, I have to say I love Jason's behaviour in that final stint. "I am my father's son" holy shit what a line. Jason is Willis' son and because of his filial love, his loyalty demands he avenges him. Jason is Bruce's son and because of his filial love, his loyalty demands that he does not kill. Jason almost murders Willis' murderer with a blank bullet and then when Bruce beats hims halfway to death he doesn't defend himself, doesn't fight back (like, one punch but come on, we've seen him fight, he just gives up). That right there? Hate to say it with how questionable RHATO's Jason is in general, but that's peak characterization. The conflict is entirely about Jason's conception of love, family and worldview, and it's deep and interesting and has nothing to do with morality. I want Jason storylines that explore that. I want Jason to work with the batfam in stories that make sense, I want the writers to acknowledge him as a victim and trauma survivor and allow him to grow from there instead of demonizing his mental illness, I want him to stop killing out of love and I want him to allow himself to love in healthier ways and for the width of his love to spread exponentially and for that to affect his behaviour and worldview.
And that's not just because I like Mrs Coulters and dislike the idea of holier than though moral characters! The christic symbolism Jason is crystal clear (especially in Lost Days), but it's not just about Jason: Talia is associated with Mary (which makes sleeping with him that much more obviously incestuous and horrible and ooc), Joker is the Devil and Bruce, of course, is God (which begs such interesting questions about the Holy Spirit - Robin maybe? To explore at a later date). Now, everybody's experience with Christianity differs wildly, but the way I learnt it growing up in catholic culture was basically God being an Authority of Judgement and Law, strict and all about morality; while Jesus is about love, unconditional love, even and especially the sinners and the damned (and as for the devil Lucifer is a fallen angel who fell after losing to God, and Satan is the demonic incarnation of temptation ain't that interesting). So I would argue that by having Jason kill or not kill out of love for his family, Jason is already his own character with autonomous thought process, independent morals and original interesting values that are a breath of fresh air in the world of superhero which is all about moral codes. Additionally, I think it's interesting and full of potential (and hope) that that very thing is why Jason and Bruce are held in opposition so often when in christianism they are two sides of the same coin.
TLDR: Jason going through character development that doesn't involve an evolution of his moral code is a great idea and if executed properly should give us fascinating stories with one of the most interesting characters in the DC universe, I used to think he should get a sort of "redemption arc" after UTRH where he questions his moral code but now I feel like I'm stuck in the same Christian/superhero framework as the pedantic guy who didn't understand His Dark Materials and I refuse to agree with them about anything so now I'm a hardcore "love over morals" Jason girlie. Obviously I still think moral code development would be a good and interesting storyline and better than anything DC is giving us rn, but I think we could do even better without it.
(also Star Sapphire Jason ftw)

Sorry if this is annoying/you have been asked this already but we have been seeing more and more posts trying to deny that Alters/headmates are separate people and that they are actually just you but separated by amnesia barriers.
it’s very confusing to us since we have OSDD 1 and view ourselves as distinctly different people just inhabiting the same body
is that wrong of us to think? (We also get confused since a lot of said posts say it’s “scientifically accurate” but we have checked the DEM multiple times and talked to our therapist and we can’t seem to find where it says that headmates can’t be separate people)
I actually haven't been asked this in a long time.
First off, the "amnesia barriers" thing is an AI talking shit about nothing in Google results. It's inaccurate, and I wish it would go away. Dissociative barriers are not only caused by amnesia, and the result of them is not always amnesia, but that's me being pissy.
Now, as for how people view themselves.
You do you, boo ❤️
Fuck the haters.
I'm going to explain this as simply as possible. This is a very general overview.
The ToSD asserts that no one is born with an integrated sense of self. During normal, uninterrupted development, childrens' action and defense systems begin to cohesively work together to create... The person you would become, I suppose. You learn to prioritize your needs and wants and create plans for yourself using a cohesive set of thoughts. For example, you're hungry but also need a shower. Your experiences have shaped you to prioritize and perform actions in certain ways. Some people will eat first, then shower, some will shower first and eat second. And these decisions are influenced by the totality of all of your experiences.
In CDDs, these action systems become separated-- dissociated away, not hidden by amnesia. If your parents were particularly cruel around food, you may have pushed those needs away, and that action system develops within itself, beginning its own prioritization process. In many cases, we lose access to those systems, and they no longer play a normal part in our decision-making.
For many, we don't have any access to those parts that we originally rejected. Some parts become alters, some parts are just fragments, but we struggle to cohesively and strategically place those needs in our day to day lives. We struggle to communicate with those parts. They have drastically different wants and needs and priorities, and access to their own unique coping skills (that may or may not be good for the system as a whole).
At any given time, we only have full, cohesive access to parts of our lives, skills, techniques, needs, thoughts, the list keeps going.
This is "parts of a whole."
This is what parts language is.
It's what I believe and it's what's helped my system.
This does not have anything to do with how autonomous or individualized alters can become, how separate, how they view themselves.
Some people relate much more heavily to this particular framework, some can understand but don't like it applied to them, some don't feel it applies at all to their system.
It's a mechanism of how CDDs develop, and within this framework, you can use whatever language you prefer. Not all parts work is parts focused. Alters can see themselves as their own people, they can wish for their own lives and dream of having their own body. Therapists can and do empathize with these feelings, and they play no part in the success or failure of treatment.
Are you all working together to stay alive and keep out of jail? Does your whole system understand they share a body?
Yes? Great, you're good to go. Use whatever language feels right.
We are parts, but we're also people within our own rights, and that's okay.
It's a huge framework. Explore it.

astro notes: mars, jupiter, & saturn meet
As we step into Wednesday 8/14, the cosmic energies are intensifying with Mars conjoining Jupiter in the sign of Gemini at 16 degrees. This conjunction is forming a powerful square with Saturn in Pisces, which is currently at 17 degrees. As the week progresses, these aspects will significantly shape the astrological landscape, leading to dynamic and potentially transformative events.
Key Aspects and Developments:
Mars Conjunct Jupiter in Gemini: Mars, representing speed and action, joins forces with expansive Jupiter. This alignment suggests an increase in momentum, particularly in areas governed by Gemini—communication, information, and mental agility. Expect a rapid pace in these domains, which could lead to potential misunderstandings or conflicts, especially with Mercury in retrograde.
Mars and Jupiter Square Saturn: The square aspect to Saturn introduces a sense of challenge or restriction. This is where the energy shifts from pure momentum to a more focused, determined effort. Saturn’s influence demands discipline, structure, and a cautious approach to the enthusiasm and ambition fueled by Mars and Jupiter.
Formation of a T-Square: As the weekend approaches, Venus moves into the same dynamic, opposing Saturn and squaring the Mars-Jupiter conjunction. This forms a T-square, a challenging astrological pattern that often brings tension and the need for resolution. Venus’s involvement suggests that relationships, values, and resources may come under scrutiny, requiring balance and adjustment.
Mercury Retrograde and Uranus Influence: The week also sees Mercury retrograde squaring Uranus, adding a layer of unpredictability and potential disruption, particularly in communication and technology. This aspect, combined with a Kazimi (when Mercury is in the heart of the Sun), emphasizes breakthroughs or sudden realizations, albeit through chaotic or unexpected events.
Full Moon and Uranus: The Full Moon, with its square to Uranus, culminates this energetic buildup, highlighting a need for change or a shift in perspective. This Uranian influence could bring about sudden shifts or liberating experiences, reinforcing the theme of breaking free from outdated patterns.
Archetypal Themes:
Speed and Amplification: The Mars-Jupiter conjunction in Gemini accelerates mental processes, communication, and data exchange. This could lead to quick decisions, bold statements, or conflicts arising from hastiness. However, the positive side includes increased confidence, courage, and a sense of victory in overcoming challenges.
Pressure Cooker Dynamics: The square from Saturn introduces a testing period where strength, determination, and focus are required. This aspect suggests a need to channel the high energy of Mars-Jupiter into disciplined and constructive efforts. It’s a time for heroic perseverance in the face of obstacles, whether expected or unforeseen.
Overcoming Obstacles: The combination of Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn signals a time to overcome hurdles through intelligence, discipline, and hard work. Whether these challenges were anticipated or not, the key lies in steadfast effort and strategic planning.
Structural Reformation: The Jupiter-Saturn square, amplified by Mars, points to a period of restructuring or reorganization. This could manifest in personal, professional, or societal frameworks, necessitating decisive actions to rebuild or reform systems that no longer serve their purpose.
Necessity as a Catalyst for Innovation: Saturn’s restrictive influence often forces creative solutions. As constraints become apparent, particularly in areas related to Gemini (communication, technology, information), the necessity to adapt or innovate becomes a driving force.
Practical Applications:
Stay Grounded: With the rapid pace and potential for misunderstandings, particularly in communication, take time to think before you speak or act. Patience and clarity will be your allies.
Embrace Challenges: View obstacles as opportunities for growth. The pressure cooker environment created by Saturn’s square may feel intense, but it’s also a chance to demonstrate resilience and determination.
Be Open to Change: The Uranian influence suggests that surprises or sudden shifts are likely. Embrace these as opportunities to break free from old patterns and move towards greater freedom or innovation.
Reevaluate Structures: Whether in personal habits, relationships, or professional endeavors, consider where reorganization or restructuring is needed. This is a time to build stronger, more sustainable foundations.

Smithy Gang Headcanons
Hi, friends! I'm extremely grateful for the positive feedback on The Forging, and definitely want to write more SMRPG stuff; I've just been working on other priorities lately. However, my brain has been busy churning stuff over, even if I haven't had the time to sit down and write a story yet.
So I wanted to jot down some of my headcanons for the Smithy gang, specifically the forging order of the main members. I thought of a sequence where Smithy created each as a response to shortcomings he saw in their predecessors. This timeline will serve as a framework from which I can write future stories.
I don't think there's anything here that goes directly against canon, but I'm not as much of an SMRPG expert as I am with some other games lol, so feel free to tell me if there's some kind of Japanese-only line that contradicts me. Also let me know your own ideas if you want!! I am new to being a proper fan in this fandom :P
First, some general notes: I don't really have a good definition for who Smithy himself is, where he came from, or what his world is like, and I don't know if I ever will, since I find some degree of ominous mystery to be more interesting. Also - while I've seen the Gang described as "robots", while that may be true in a sense, I think of them more as "constructs" - I don't think they're powered by wires or circuitry or anything like that, but rather arcane magic. They are not powered by AI, even in the sense that a more nuanced and self-aware robo-sentience might be (see examples in the Marioverse: TEC, Beep-0, JEANIE), but a more traditional type of consciousness/soul that Smithy has learned to work with, as if it were yet another material. (This isn't abnormal for the Mario world, where we already have living bullets and bombs and the like- and in an ironic twist, also makes them somewhat similar to Geno, who is a consciousness inhabiting a form that would not produce sentience or mobility on its own.)
This isn't really a fic, although it's long enough to be one, lol. I hope you enjoy!
First there was Exor; but Smithy did not create him. In fact, Exor was Smithy's beloved blade, the reason for his obsession with living weapons in the first place. But Exor is a being even more ancient than Smithy, who just happened to bond with him in his lifetime. The sword can grow to a massive size, and is never truly destroyed, but will reappear and reforge itself throughout history. The otherworldly creature that attached itself to Exor and brought it to life has been known to some as the Neosquid.
Now Smithy, in a sense, was his own first experiment - gradually replacing his organic parts with malleable metal, not only to extend his own life, but to make himself more suited for a variety of purposes. This was a process that never really had an end, as he was always experimenting, creating new heads for himself. But when he was satisfied enough with his initial efforts, Smithy sought to create life in his own image, and in the image of his beloved Exor. Among other adventures, he spent time in Subcon, the Land of Dreams, studying the enigmatic nature of consciousness - at least enough so that he could harness some of its unfathomable magic for his own ends.
Boomer was the first of Smithy's prized creations (yes, because I like the idea of the one called "Boomer" being the oldest). Originally created to provide a sort of companionship to Smithy in the form of strategic advisory and being a bodyguard- and also to provide friendship, although Smithy would never admit it. Over time, Smithy became distracted with his newer and flashier works, and grew tired of Boomer's overly serious and staid nature. Though their relationship has grown distant, Boomer's fondness, gratitude and loyalty for his creator has never faltered, and he will defend Smithy to the very last of his existence. In turn, Smithy has never put forth plans for machine-made Boomers- the younger creations speculate it's because he's too outdated a model for this to be worth it, but perhaps it's because even now, Smithy considers him irreplaceable.
Bowyer was the next-forged. Smithy sought to make a commander who represented a long-range weapon, to contrast with Boomer's katana; and also a more creative and inventive personality to offset Boomer's traditionalist and unadventurous nature. When Bowyer was born, Smithy found that he had accidentally gone way too far (in his opinion) in this new direction, leading to a creation that was so erratic he refused to even speak like those around him. Smithy found Bowyer a hard-to-control troublemaker who would rarely listen to him (or Boomer) and seemed unhappy most of the time, not fitting in with the world he had been forged into. Bowyer would also leave arrows all over the place, sticking out of random things in the weapon world - this is when Smithy had the bright idea to create arrows with consciousness, so they could return to their leader on their own. To Smithy and Boomer's surprise, Bowyer became a lot more joyful and content when he met his little Aeros, and they all became an inseparable entourage.
Smithy became creatively blocked while trying to think of his next big project, largely due to the stress of Bowyer's early behavior. Instead, he came up with a number of smaller-time minions, some of which were the Shymores, based on the Shy Guys he had observed during the time he had spent in Subcon. The Shymores were a playfully destructive group, and after seeing Bowyer's happiness with the Aeros, Smithy decided to forge a creation who was destined to be a leader from the outset; and also one with a mischievous streak, yet toned down from Bowyer. And so he made Claymorton, who later called himself Mack. He was a beloved leader to his rowdy group, but perhaps too social- he ended up neglecting his own training, preferring to play and mess around with his friends, and thus never became very strong on his own.
By now, Smithy was growing frustrated by the failures and flaws that he saw in the personalities of his creations. He decided to think extra hard about the character of his next project: this would be someone who could work completely independently - brilliant, shrewd, capable of powerful magic spells and illusions. Yet Smithy made sure to write in an unflinching loyalty to himself into the new creation's code, so to speak. And lo: at first Speardovich seemed everything Smithy could have ever wanted. Proud, powerful, but knowing his place. He needed no minions, and thus was never distracted, as he could split his own form and consciousness so that one being could do the work of many. He might appear to be older than Bowyer and Claymorton, but in fact he is technically not; he was just created from the outset to be more mature, with the moustache to prove it. And yet, over time, the cracks in this personality began to show. Speary was pompous and did not get along with the other creations when necessity called them to work together. And his respect for Smithy manifested as simpering; a begging for praise and attention which the smith found increasingly unbearable. He was always coming up with unasked-for ideas and input, such as: perhaps all the machine-made units could take the name of a spear in a different language, and "speardovich" could be their overall model name, and that he quite liked Yaridovich for himself personally, and perhaps it would be alright if- but no, Smithy would have none of it. While at first he had beamed with joy at this newest creation, he soon enough kept him at arm's length (or spear's length?) as well.
Finally, Smithy hit upon a brilliant idea - his next creation would be a group of (mostly) equals who could depend on each other without a major power imbalance, keep each other entertained, and stay out of his hair. The Axem Rangers were born, all bearing an energetic and youthful personality which they are still yet to grow out of. They were given control of the Blade, and sent to scout various worlds. They often picked up slang and brought home entertainment from the places they visited, and developed a countless number of inside jokes. The other commanders, and especially Smithy himself and Boomer, found it hard to keep up with them. However, Smithy considered their existence a big success, and remained very proud of them- although this might be due to the fact that he ended up not having to interact with them that much.
...So, that's what I have for now! I'm not sure where all of the Factory enemies fit into this; based on their descriptions, I think Clerk/Manager/Director aren't creations of Smithy, but are the same species as him and recruited from his homeworld. Same with the Chief, aside from possibly not being the same species. Smaller minions like jabits and the hammers would be produced at various points that aren't super relevant to this larger narrative. Count Down was probably made as a fun side-project when Smithy wanted to take a break from weapons per se, and see what he could do with an object like a clock. Gunyolk was confirmed to be created by the Chief. And Cloaker and Domino are weird outliers; I want to say they would be among some of the first things Smithy made, or the latest, in some kind of more abstract and experimental period.
Again - let me know your thoughts and ideas!

Personality:
Thurston embodies a perplexing blend of charisma, aggression, and unpredictability. His leadership style is defined by a drill-sergeant mentality, demanding loyalty and discipline from followers while relishing the chaos surrounding them. His strict adherence to strength as a virtue manifests in a dark sense of humor that scrutinizes societal norms.
Notably, Thurston's charisma is rugged, allowing him to inspire loyalty through strength, although it simultaneously alienates him from genuine emotional connections. Beneath the fierce exterior lurks a complex individual wrestling with profound fears—particularly the fear of vulnerability and isolation.
Background:
Thurston's formative years were shaped by an unforgiving environment, where he quickly learned that competition was vital for survival. The narrative of trust being a weakness led him to cultivate a worldview centered around strength, leading him into gangs and militant groups that echoed his beliefs.
His adolescence was marked by violence and tumult, sharpening his strategic capabilities and further cementing his chaotic outlook. This rugged upbringing ultimately earned him a reputation as a fierce opponent, teaching him that in a world dominated by chaos, one must be ready to manipulate and confront others to retain power and control.
Goals:
Thurston seeks to establish a dominion where only the strongest can thrive, envisioning a world where societal collapse makes way for a new natural order. His ultimate ambition is to lead a faction that echoes these beliefs, positioning himself as central to this redefined societal structure, necessitating conflict with those who represent order.
Needs:
Thurston’s prime need for respect and fear directly fuels his ego. He struggles with complex companionship needs, equating loyalty with strength, often pushing potential allies away as he seeks validation through his aggressive demeanor.
Moreover, an intrinsic fear of being labeled weak drives him to maintain a façade of invulnerability, complicating his ability to accept emotional vulnerability or connection.
Motivations:
Thurston’s motivations root deeply in a belief referencing survivalism, fixating on the idea that strength is the ultimate asset. He intentionally places himself in confrontational scenarios, perpetually pushing the boundaries of reckless behavior to validate his worldview.
His commitment to adrenaline-driven adventures comes from a place where danger is both alluring and terrifying, resulting in a cycle of compulsive hedonism that encapsulates his existence.
Internal Conflicts:
Thurston faces a fundamental conflict between his aggressive nature and a burgeoning awareness of emotions. His contempt for emotional bonds clashes with unexpected moments of longing for connection, generating a tension that often leads to self-destructive behavior in his relationships.
External Conflicts:
Thurston is often embroiled in conflicts with those upholding order—the ideological contrast between himself and 1P Finland illustrates this struggle. Moreover, his interactions frequently lead to skirmishes with authority figures, accentuating his existential desire for autonomy, which solidifies his rebellious identity.
Relationships:
Allies: A mix of similarly inclined individuals from various chaotic factions allows Thurston to garner strength through collective belief.
Rivals: The rivalry with 1P Finland signifies the ideological divide between chaos and order, serving as a catalyst for Thurston’s emotional exploration and journey.
Romantic Interests: While potential romantic partners are intrigued by his depth, Thurston’s aggressive persona often proves intimidating and off-putting. His internal battle between attraction and fear of emotional bonds creates an enriching complexity in his romantic plots.
Overall Theme:
Thurston's character encapsulates the ongoing struggle between chaos and order, strength versus emotional vulnerability. His journey prompts a contemplation of the delicate balance between power and compassion, challenging societal norms around strength, leadership, and the necessity of emotional connections.
General Plot Ideas:
Crisis of Leadership: Thurston faces the challenge of maintaining authority while grappling with the need for negotiation, exposing his vulnerabilities.
Emotional Bonding: A connection with a pacifist character propels Thurston to reevaluate his beliefs on strength versus vulnerability.
Apocalyptic Scenario: Encountering the chaos he craved forces him to confront the reality of his desires, challenging his totalitarian view of survival.
Romantic Plot Ideas:
Challenge of Loyalty: A romantic counterpart emerges, revealing a perspective that contrasts his brute beliefs, compelling him to reconsider his methods and views on connection.
