Look if the qualifiers are 4th Ideal Radiants who aren’t fighting for Odium by the end of the book the only ones qualified will be Jasnah (busy ruling Alethkar in exile), Kaladin (uninterested), Random Stoneward We’ve Never Heard of, Shallan (probably having a breakdown again), …..and Szeth
take my hand. it's the end of kowt and they're trying to decide who becomes king of urithiru because kaladin doesn't want to and the succession line gets fucked up and no one knows what to do. wit speaks up. "who has a better story than szeth?" szeth becomes king of urithiru.

hmmm Kaladin’s not doing to hot with all that responsibility hm yeah I know what to do I’m gonna relieve him of duty even though I know how it will affect him
oh wait I need an heir I’m gonna give him sooooo much more responsibility all of a sudden. Yeah I know he has no experience with economics or large scale leadership. I think he’s a good person and that will be enough.

guys can we talk about chapter 14. I know everyone wants to talk about adolin/shallan shower sex etc etc but also like specifically jasnahs part of chapter 14.
because like yes girlboss emotions and backstory but also like.
this feels very reminiscent of ch 99 in all it's infamously horrid representation of both the characters and ace/aro identity
also I feel like hoid is being such a bitch
like that may 100% be in character but I love him so much and I would appreciate him not being a bitch

The Bondsmith spren seem to require…negotiation? Additional permission from/persuasion of the spren?
Also Gavilar is being more honest in this than he has been in anything he’s told the Stormfather so far, which might be part of it too.

It’s interesting that the Stormfather took the exact wrong tact with both Kholin brothers.
He helped the greedy, manipulative conquerer too much, missing the fact that Gavilar was lying to him (or the extent to which he was). And is stonewalling Dalinar, who genuinely wants to be a better person with the planet’s best interest at heart.
I think the stormfather might have had a better chance in making Dalinar listen to him of he hadn’t spent most of their conversation saying no, giving vague answers and not helping.
Because it makes a lot of sense for Dalinar to trust Cultivation more here. She has genuinely helped him before when he was at his lowest and now when he is scared and unsure of what to do she offered him a solution. Not only that she told him he would get the answers he’s been asking for
Even if this is the wrong solution it is a lot more tangible than having no solution at all
Now the question that I have is why cultivation seems interested in replacing honor? And why she would want to spend the rest of her time co parenting roshar with Dalinar and Taravangian of all people

stormlight 5 bingo is COMPLETE. most recent addition is from the theory I reblogged earlier about the stormfather dying and killing the cycle of highstorms...
i feel a bit overconfident about this one. some are (in my opinion) quite likely, some are absolutely wild guesses. hoping to tick at least a few of these off with the incoming preview chapters though lol

Surprising Similarities Among Cosmere Characters
Here are some similarities between Cosmere characters that you may not have considered before!
[Spoilers chiefly for Stormlight & Warbreaker!]
1. Kaladin & Lift: BYOH ("Bring Your Own Holds") Rock Climbing
Kaladin has done this multiple times--he climbed up the walls of the chasms in the Shattered Plains by sticking rocks to the walls to create holds, and he climbed down Urithiru using, like, brushes or something I think. Meanwhile, Lift can climb up super smooth walls by having Wyndle create handholds through his vines.
2. Kaladin & Dalinar: Had a Brother Who Was OBSESSED with Rocks
To be fair, Tien’s love of pretty rocks is perhaps slightly cuter than Gavilar's love of rocks filled with dark, pulsing doom energy.
3. Dalinar & Vasher: Defeated a Villain by Giving him a Super Valuable Gift
When Dalinar and Sadeas were in their "who gets the bridgeman" standoff, Dalinar won by giving Sadeas his shardblade. When Vasher was fighting Denth, he won by giving Denth all of his Breaths. In both cases, this was a strategy that no one saw coming because who would actually give up something so valuable??
4. Shallan & Lirin: Successfully Robbed a Wealthy Lighteyes
Shallan stole Jasnah's soulcaster, and Lirin stole a bunch of spheres from the previous highlord.
5. Shallan & Dalinar: Canonically Have Great Butts
As pointed out by @aphroditesmoon here: https://www.tumblr.com/cosmeretrek/740781582381645824/shallan-dalinar.
6. Shallan & Kaladin: Wear the Same Boots
(Sorry I had too.)
7. Kaladin & Adolin: Kill a Powerful Man by Stabbing him Through the Eye
Kaladin killed Helarin, who should have been unkillable in his shardplate, by throwing a speartip through his eye. Adolin killed Sadeas by pushing a dagger through his eye.
8. Jasnah & Kaladin: Hated Amaram Before It Was Cool
As pointed out by someone on Reddit but brought to tumblr by @cosmeretrek here: https://www.tumblr.com/cosmeretrek/745477332090880000/link
9. Shallan & Kelsier: Can Keep Smiling Through Anything
While living in her very abusive household as a child, baby Shallan just kept smiling to try to keep her father calm. And Kelsier, of course, kept smiling to make sure the Lord Ruler didn't win.
10. Sarene & the Stick: Similar Nicknames
"Leky Stick" for Sarene and "the stick" for the stick. Really makes you think.
BONUS BELOW [SPOILERS FOR WAT PREVIEW CHAPTERS 1-2!!]
Kaladin & Shallan: Ask weird poop-related questions
...but at least Kaladin was a child at the time.

finally got around to reading tress of the emerald sea...!
it's the first of the brandsand kickstarter books i'm getting around to actually reading (well, listening to as an audiobook), and the one that compelled me the most from the previews we got. i liked it a lot! i loved the whimsical vibe and narration (95% of the time) and the worldbuilding and the characters. i had a great time!!!
BUT ALSO........ the multiverse aspects of the cosmere are starting to really turn me off of it. like i know that's the whole Deal but i just don't enjoy it. it always feels like a cop-out to Me when the story is solved with a super-powerful person appearing from a different planet that you need to read books X, Y, and Z to recognize. i'm sure it's fun for people who are fully immersed in it! but i'm not and i generally tend to prefer stories that are Self-Containted.
like i really really loved stormlight archive when i read it, and i still do, and i think cameos can be fun!! but the more off-world characters are involved with the plot it just... i'm less excited about it now. like i signed up for a story on this world but now it's gearing up to be that the whole multiverse is in danger or something? bleh. idk. my hype is dying.
anyway, as i said - i enjoyed the narration in tress 95% of the time. unfortunately the other 5% i found hoid to be insufferable and most of those times were when he addressed the audience. i think it Can work well, but for me it did Not. the Not Like Other Girls/Protagonist parts were also... ugh. like i can tell it was trying to do a subversion but it didn't really. like idk i don't like it when books assume that the reader is bigoted or judgemental? like it's not a good gotcha.
OTHER THAN THAT i think it's a lovely book!!
