Book of Shadows vs Grimoire; What's the difference?
Tumblr media
A Book of Shadows (which will be referred to as BOS)
Book of Shadows
A BoS is a witches magick diary, so to speak. It's incredibly personal and may contain pages that consist of shadow work entries, entries on their dreams, sigils, tracking and records, tarot readings & spreads, even spells and their outcomes/progressions if they are making their own. This book is full of mistakes, progression and finalising of creations. You can decided to put anything in your BoS, which is what makes it yours. Many witches usually keep this book hidden or locked to anyone other than the owner of the book. It's quite literally a diary into their craft, so there may be pages in there that are full of vulnerabilities and struggles a witch may face throughout their journey.
Vs. Grimoire
A grimoire is something a little less personal, and more academic and used to find information. A grimoire is used more as a book of information; a guide to meanings, definitions or common information in one place. A grimoire is great when creating/making new spells, rituals, learning of gems and crystals. A grimoire can come in many forms, like a BoS, it can be done online, in a book, or on your phone. It can include key words and sayings, pre-made spells, sigils, prayers, etc. Both the BoS and grimoire can be placed on an altar

Spell Book
Job 40:15-19
Tumblr media
7 “Brace yourself like a man;     I will question you,     and you shall answer me.
8 “Would you discredit my justice?     Would you condemn me to justify yourself? 9 Do you have an arm like God’s,     and can your voice thunder like his?
Tumblr media
10 Then adorn yourself with glory and splendor,     and clothe yourself in honor and majesty. 11 Unleash the fury of your wrath,     look at all who are proud and bring them low, 12 look at all who are proud and humble them,     crush the wicked where they stand. 13 Bury them all in the dust together;     shroud their faces in the grave. 14 Then I myself will admit to you     that your own right hand can save you.
Tumblr media
15 “Look at Behemoth,     which I made along with you     and which feeds on grass like an ox. 16 What strength it has in its loins,     what power in the muscles of its belly! 17 Its tail sways like a cedar;     the sinews of its thighs are close-knit. 18 Its bones are tubes of bronze,     its limbs like rods of iron. 19 It ranks first among the works of God,     yet its Maker can approach it with his sword. 20 The hills bring it their produce,     and all the wild animals play nearby. 21 Under the lotus plants it lies,     hidden among the reeds in the marsh.
22 The lotuses conceal it in their shadow;     the poplars by the stream surround it. 23 A raging river does not alarm it;     it is secure, though the Jordanshould surge against its mouth. 24 Can anyone capture it by the eyes,     or trap it and pierce its nose?

——-
I was always fascinated by the idea of Adam becoming one of the Great Demons from Solomon. But this is mainly all I have time to make today. Sorry it’s bad. Maybe. Someday I can give it more justice. But I hope you all have an awesome day!

As wonderful as this hellsite is (was? Kind of….) for finding witchcraft and pagan information….
Always double check sources. Always look in more than one place. Search for answers, sure, but always check and double check, and find more sources for your information elsewhere.
I’ve met some great and knowledgeable witches and pagans on here
I’ve also met some pagans and witches on here with shit for brains
Discernment. It’s important.

December Prep 2
Let's look into a couple of things this week The first is how to properly study, research and gather information and the second is the various kinds of prompts you will see in the challenge throughout the year.
The basic steps in any research process are
Identify and develop your topic (we will have multiple so it will be important to follow the same steps for each topic.)
Preliminary search for information - we will be gathering a list of resources for everyone before the challenge begins including websites, a list of recommended books, and more.
Locate the information/ materials - Gather all your sources into one place! A folder on your pc, or a bookmark bar in your browser can go a long way to helping you keep this organized.
Evaluate and use Discernment on your informational sources.
Take notes! - self explanatory. Using the resources at your disposal, take notes on your selected topic, gather all of those notes, and keep them organized. You don't need to think of this in exact terms of a research paper, but the idea is the same! All of your notes will be helpful in actually filling and creating the pages for your grimoire! But, you also can just keep the notes as they are in your grimoire!
Now lets get on to the types of prompts you will see!
Meditation/ Journal - these will generally be the end of every week and after every practical prompt, so you can look back at what you've done and learned, in order to help you process what you'd done and how you feel and think about it.
Research/ Study - these will include things like herbs, gems, types of magical practices and topics, tools, history
Practical/ Hands on - at least one a week, where you get your hands dirty, so to speak, and really perform some magic or do the work you're studying.
Submissions - I encourage everyone to share their thoughts, ideas, and physical progress within the challenge. You don't have to share pictures, if you're not comfortable, but thoughts and ideas and a short post about what you accomplished!
Holiday/ Seasonal posts - We'll have posts for the typical holidays and some that not so common.
Divination prompts - On occasion we'll have a divination prompt. It won't necessarily require you to perform any divination if you're not comfortable or don't know how, but the option will be there!
Cooking prompt - We've all seen those cool witchy inspired cooking posts on this site. So why not do one? Why not learn to make bread? Or mead? Or cute little pastries? Or anything. This'll be a new prompt, one I encourage everyone to take part in and share!
There may be more of these added as we go, but in general this is all of the types of posts we'll be seeing!
What else is there to do?
Well if you’ve already got notes somewhere (a notebook or files on your computer or what have you) you’re gonna want to actually design a grimoire right? And this is a grimoire challenge right? So let’s look at different design and style options!
If you’ve seen the video I posted of my grimoire pages, they’re very scrapbook/ junk journal styled. Which is a fun and totally customizable option.
Let’s look at some note taking methods, to help us take notes as well as design our grimoire pages, and some scrapbook supplies and ideas for ways to decorate our grimoires.
https://crm.org/news/note-taking-methods#:~:text=There%20are%20many%20different%20methods,and%20Bullet%20Method%2C%20among%20others.
These are just a few links for some ideas.
Your grimoire should suit you, no matter how you choose to design and decorate it. It could be a scrapbook like mine, a bullet note journal, or a leather bound tome with thick ink lettering in a cipher that only you can read. However you want to design it, it should be an expression of you and your practice.
I am excited to be running this challenge again, and to be helping all of your find inspiration for your practices and grimoires!
Good luck and happy crafting!

Pearl Correspondences & Uses in Witchcraft
Friendly reminder that this post was available for early access over on my Patreon! Unlock early access to my future content (as well as exclusive access to my research notes, free tarot readings, digital goodies, access to my online library, and TONS more) by subscribing to my Patreon for as little as $2/month!
In ancient Chinese culture, pearls were used in artwork, folktales, and charms to represent wishes, fortunes, gratitude, and even the moon:
Marquis of Sui’s Pearl, a gemstone in a folktale dating back to the Warring States period (475-221 BCE), is given to a leader, Sui, from an injured snake that he nurses back to health, as a symbol of gratitude.
In Hindu and Buddhist traditions, The Chintamani (equivalent to the importance of The Philosopher’s Stone in alchemy) is known as a wish-fulfilling jewel that is sometimes depicted as a pearl.
In Chinese artwork, dragons may be seen holding or playing with a “flaming pearl” – in this context, some believe the pearl may be representative of “an object of great value that enhances the benign dragon who treasures it”, however it is more commonly (especially in Westerners) believed to be a cosmological symbol of the moon – in fact, there is an ancient belief that full moons are solid pearls, while new moons are hollow pearls.
In holistic circles, pearl powder is also known to help you with longevity, beauty, bone-health, among many other (non-FDA approved) benefits – and in Ayurvedic medicine, pearl is said to be an antidote for poison, and it was also used in love potions.
Knowing the traditional symbolism of pearls in Chinese and Eastern cultures, as well as its (supposed) medical benefits and Ayurvedic uses, we can create our own Correspondences for Utilizing Pearls in Witchcraft:
The Moon
The inner/subconscious-self
Wishes
Gratitude
Abundance
Love
Beauty
Longevity, good health
Pisces, cancer
Hidden knowledge
Uses for pearls (or pearl powder) in modern witchcraft:
Use pearl powder as highlighter in makeup for an easy glamor-spell
Mix with salt and other herbs associated with abundance to make “money-salt” for money spells
Add whole pearls or sprinkle pearl powder in your money bowl
Blow pearl powder onto your front door at the beginning of each month to bring abundance to your home
Write down a secret or something you want to get off your chest, and bury it with a pearl to keep it ‘hidden away’ from others
Make a wish with a pearl by leaving it out in a rainstorm, or dropping it into a natural body of water (pond, lake, etc).
Offerings to sea-related or beauty-realted deities
Tumblr media
Fun pearl facts:
Genuine pearls (and pearl powder) doesn’t burn! Pearls may discolor, but they shouldn’t go up in flames.
Pearls are made as oysters try to protect themselves from irritants or parasites – they add layers and layers of this ‘pearl’ coating to intruders, and viola!
Pearls are the only gemstone that come from a living creature
Pearls come in many colors
Pearls are obtained from oyster farming – which is actually beneficial to the environment! Additionally, pearls can be harvested without killing oysters.
Be careful when shopping for pearls – many places do not sell genuine pearls and they may be fake. Use caution when looking to purchase!

SPELL FOR THE END OF THE WORLD
I just put together this new version of a zine from 2020, with a new cover and new page configurations and I'm really excited about it! It's on my web store and going out to the Snail Mail Club next month! 🐌💌 My phone camera could not seem to get the colour of the cover quite right, but I promise in print, the text is more legible! (Made with support from CAFKA-Contemporary Art Forum Kitchener and Area, Canada Council for the Arts, and CBC/Radio-Canada. Thank you!)

𝕵𝖚𝖘𝖙𝖎𝖈𝖊 𝖘𝖕𝖊𝖑𝖑
When legal matters are a problem, or you feel you've been wrong in some way, invoke Hecate, the Goddess of Justice, by chanting:
Keeper of what's just and right Come and save me from the plight Take swift action — hear my plea Do now what I ask of Thee
Know that the problem will be resolved.
