If you're soy sensitive/allergic and buy products because they use sunflower lecithin instead of soy lecithin, be prepared for either price hikes beyond mere inflation, or double check ingredient lists if they're not certified soy-free products! Sunflower shortages due to the war in Ukraine have meant out of stock at the retail supplement level for a few months now and I'm sure producers of protein powders or soup or whatever snack are starting to see issues in their supply chain availability/price increases.

Free-From Baking
Hey if you're someone who likes to cook and bake a lot, and you also live with/encounter food allergies and intolerances in your day-to-day lives, then this book may be of interest to you:
The Elements of Baking: Making any recipe gluten-free, dairy-free, egg-free or vegan by Katarina Cermelj
Release Date: October 3rd 2024
This book is advertised as "the ultimate allergy-friendly cookbook" and I believe it. I've seen photos of this book, and a video on the author's personal Tiktok page that shows it in a bit more detail and I think it looks incredible.
As well as clear visual markers to show which recipes are free from certain ingredients, there are also pictures included for some recipes to show what they should look like if they are gluten-free, egg-free, soy-free etc. Which I think is amazing.
My lactose intolerance and love of baking may make me biased, but I was already excited for this book when it was shown to me before I even looked at Cermelj's website for more information, and now I'm even more so.
Cermelj's site, The Loopy Whisk, also allows you to search for recipes by dietary requirement and recipe type!
She has another cookbook, released in 2022, with details on gluten-free recipes!
If anyone has any other recommendations for allergy/intolerance-friendly cookbooks and recipe books, please let me know! I'd love to add more to the archive!

As a precautionary measure, Seneca Foods Corporation is announcing a voluntary recall of mislabeled Hy-Vee Turkey gravy in glass jars that actually contains beef gravy. This product could potentially contain a soy allergen which is not declared on the label. Seneca is now retrieving improperly labeled Hy-Vee Turkey Gravy from its distribution system. This recall only affects Hy-Vee Turkey Gravy product sold by Hy-Vee. No other retailers are affected. People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to soy run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products.

I'm mildly allergic to cocoa and lactose intolerant
Still just made a warm cuppa of hot chocolate because it's appropriately cold and perfect to accompany my book reading
I hope the Interviewer is proud of me
Okay I get it because I do these things too but PLEASE take care of yourself. I have a lot of allergies and I truly understand the urge, but please be safe. The Interviewer also wants you to be safe.
Here is a cocoa recipe that you don't need milk for:
Oat-Milk and/or Oat-Milk-Cream (!!) There are recipes for making your own oatmilk from oats, if you can't find any! I found vegan heavy cream on the basis of oat at some point and it's been a lifesaver. Rice milk might work too, as well as almond, but I find it then to be very watery. I do stan oats though.
Boil and add dark chocolate: if you are allergic to cocoa, it might be that you are allegic to a specific thing that gets out due to processing it further. If you know what part is the issue, there might be ways to go around it. Melt the chocolate in the oat-milk and let it boil for a minute, be aware there will be foam but in my case, it actually makes things edible for me that I wasn't able to have before! You're the expert on your own allegies, so you know best.
Adding actual chocolate makes it thicker as if you used cows-milk.
Add some cinnamon on top, maybe some sprinkles of vanilla - especially the cinnamon is nice when it's cold and rainy!
Enjoy!

My mom: I'm doing a pineapple teriyaki chicken dish tonight for dinner.
Me: Ok.
Her: And the recipe does call for soy, but I'm not going to use it, I'm going to use those coconut aminos, soy, replacement things.
Me, about to drop a bombshell: Mother...
Her: What?
Me: I'm allergic to coconut too.

just ate uncooked strawberries and cherries and nothing happened. Then i had a cautious bite of apple just now and nothing (yet?). Maybe my immuune system finally easing up on the self destruct upon encountering food i enjoy thing. :)) I've never lost a food allergy so it's very puzzling. I was just having a stupid moment and eating a strawberry expecting a reaction, medication at hand and prepared for something annoying. When nothing happened i just kept eating strawberries. Same with the cherries! Probably a bad idea to try things i have more severe reactions to as i don't fancy choking to death over a few pistachios but...if this sticks just being able to eat many fruits fresh again would already be a huge qol improvement. 🥳
