There a lot of debate the name of Sonic’s world. Earth, Mobius, etc. The name for the planet seems to originate from the Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog TV show, as a western concept, and has carried on through other shows and the Archie comics for years until the reboot. So the name is now mostly in fan work because it was never in games… except it was! There is one game that had Mobius as a planet in Japanese script, it just wasn’t Sonic’s planet.

Planet Mobius was the name of the world Eggman tried to concur in Sonic Spinball. Rather than just being the same planet, the manual says it’s another world, like Little Planet or Planet Wisp. Since this game kind of canon, that’s what SEGA currently says, it’s on the list of places in Sonic’s universe. I guess that would work with the Two Worlds theory, but SEGA also scrapped that.

I guess this means if Sally and the other did appear in the future, they’d be considered aliens since they appeared on the bonus stage of the game.
