it's covered in a thick layer of dust from disuse. none of the cupboards or closets have doors, not when they're so easy to hide behind. the windows are covered in thick black paint that no light can penetrate

but worst? worst is the glass

mirrors, cups, bowels, every single reflective surface is shattered; the glass left lying where it fell

he never cleans it; just steps around the crystalline piles, the shards too fine to hold a reflection

there's little need to guess how they were broken, not when there's a fist-sized hole in the mirror backing in the bathroom. not when fine scars riddle his knuckles, torn from ripping out glass splinters with shaking hands

riko is in such a weird cultural place if you think about it. he’s a japanese boy who has been coached to assimilate into american culture by an uncle who we assume taught him japanese but didn’t have enough interest in him to share any aspect of his culture beyond the language, and he’s the main perpetrator of holding jean to an americanized standard but he himself has been through that process before and had to learn and adapt on his own. beyond the acceptance of his family i think it’s easy to forget riko was also denied access to his own culture (and likewise, any sense of non-exy related community) through their rejection, and it’s interesting to think about how he upheld the same process of americanization for kevin and jean, both foreign boys just like him. it makes one wonder if riko was even buried with the proper traditions—did they bury him as a japanese man or was he denied even that? and did tetsuji even care enough, respect him enough to oversee his burial?

Imagine going back to the pilots-season 2 Ninja, and trying to tell them about the robot uprising, the noodle cult, the ghosts, the pirates who like the sky, the snake and time guys, the fucking biker cult, the guys who hunt and eat dragons, the living embodiments of destruction, an angry fire snake, their friend turning into a GENOCIDAL TYRANT, the video game that was just an abandoned child, the slave-owning king, the evil human-hating squid, the return of Satan, AND ESPECIALLY the 14 remaining Realms coming together and creating some clusterfuck disastertopia where some evil Empress dictator and her army want to drain ALLLL dragons of their life force to rule the Merged Realms.

Sometimes, I wonder about the reaction to Jason's death in the criminal community. And i don't mean the big bads, I mean the smaller guys.

How did the goon who was in charge of kidnapping him for one scheme and actually found himself entertained by the kid’s antics feel? How did the goon who's only there because of their own children at home feel? How did the scary muscle goon who always had a soft spot for kids feel? How did the kid only a few years older than Jason feel?

We know not all criminals are bad people. A lot of them are just desperate. So,

Did any criminals cry for him? Did any criminals lay a rose down for him? Was it the wake-up call for someone that they needed to get out of there immediately?
