very sleepy character concepts for a sholmes retelling that’ll never see the light of day called “Sherlock Holmes, Girl Detective”. Sherlock is a pants-wearing, science-doing, girl-kissing consulting detective in the late Victorian era. Joan Watson is a trans woman returning from war and attempting to navigate the everyday trials whilst living a double life. When it is proposed that Joan marry the strange girl who keeps breaking into the university in order to calm her unruly spirit, Joan sees opportunity and Sherlock sees an ally. They both make one another worse the end. Ms. Hudson is an old queen. Sherlock’s worst enemy is Jolene Moriarty. It’s the kind of not-very-historically-accurate queer story I so require and it does not exist except in my mind! Goodbye

I am so excited to share that, as a part of my masters program, I have created a Discord community space for any writers, filmmakers, or other creators interested in retelling or adapting public domain stories—and anyone curious in exploring these sort of retellings is welcome to join: https://discord.gg/BNm4aDNzCN (and don’t worry if this is your first time using Discord—there is a channel dedicated to learning the basics of Discord!)
Over the summer, I will be sharing additional resources in this Discord server to help structure different ways to think about retellings—especially as a way to interact with the public domain canon and consider how retellings can be a form of counternarratives that share the identities, experiences, and stories that have historically not been told or shared.
Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions—and I would love to see you there ✨

A sapphic Sherlock Holmes book, but in space, and with an F/F second chance romance. If you’re looking for a quick but engaging read, The Mimicking of Known Successes is a great choice. Whether you’re a sci-fi fan who thinks you could use a little mystery or a mystery fan who thinks you could possibly branch into sci-fi, I think you could come into this book from either angle and be satisfied.
The Mimicking of Known Successes by Malka Older was reviewed at the Lesbrary

I need advice from people on the ace and aro spectrums. I've been doing research, but I would like your personal opinions.
I'm working on a modern day gender bent Sherlock Holmes retelling. I'm writing Watson as a Butch lesbian, and Sherlock as a non binary lesbian. But I'd like to integrate ace and/or aro into Sherlock's character. In the original stories Sherlock has always been kinda uninterested in romance.
I'm thinking maybe writing Sherlock as ace and demiromantic. As those are the vibes I picked up.
My question is: do you think demiromantic would fit the vibe of the original Sherlock Holmes characterization?

Also it makes sense to me that Harley got to kill Batman
Not just because she's from his rogue gallery
but because head to head Harley is the only "Villain" to ever beat Batman on her own
Anytime she "lost" to him it was with someone else's help/interference/distraction: Joker or Ivy
If Harley had decided on her own (away from Joker and Ivy) to kill Batman just because she wanted to, she absolutely could and I think Batman knew that
Harley being an anti-hero, having a slight crush/respect for Batman, and having some sort of moral compass is the only reason he's still alive
Harley knew Batman even without knowing he was Bruce Wayne
If anyone was going to take Batman out when he went rogue (and the Bat Fam wasn't around to do it) it was going to be Harley

I'm here today to ask for book recommendations.
But like a specific kind of book. Homosexual detectives or thieves and police involved.
Because shadow of the templar is not enough and I need more

Read a collection of Sherlock Holmes pastiche short stories recently. One of them was written my Neil Gaiman. It was about how Sherlock Holmes became a beekeeper to find the secret of immortality and he went to china and found special Chinese bees that he finally succeeded with….
i couldn't find any mention of bees but i DID find this

which sounds like a parody of something a really annoying guy would try to explain to you at a party

"Hello dear. Care to have a chat?"
The inmate looks back at the guards before they're flung into the cell, door locking shortly after. They sit back up and stare.
"I'm not here for small talk, I'm here to get out." I smile sweetly and giggle.
"They all say that." The inmate backs into a corner and sits there, staring at me, eyes filled with determination and boredom.
We sit in relatives silence for possibly 2 minutes till I open my mouth, an idea in my head I have to get right out.
"So, what is your theory on the description of hands in the acd canon stories? Is it intentional? Is there something deeper to it than just descriptive?" The inmate sares at me, a goofy smile present on my face.
"What stories?" I smile, mouth wide, dimple visible.
"Well, it all started in the year of 1887..."
Death Row Inmates can have their sentence abolished if they can handle a single night in the same cell as you; the most innocent looking person they’ve ever seen.
