Possibly the thing I love most about She-Ra and the Princesses of Power is how obviously it's a straight-up genderswap of Saturday morning action cartoons from the 80s (including, presumably, the original He-man).

Everyone in a position of power is female, except for Hordak the Big Bad, and Glimmer's late father who still gets a chair at Princess Coalition meetings.

The only other recurring named male character (at least as of ep6, the Entrapta one) is Bow, who is unquestionably The Chick.

He's kind of Glimmer's boyfriend.

His superpower is less powerful than anyone else's, so much so that they had to dedicate a Very Special Episode to proving he can save the day without princess help (again, the Entrapta one).

He wears slightly less clothing than everyone else (including Mermista, who goes swimming in yoga pants).

And he does the burden of the Hero Team's emotional labor.

I cannot overstate how much 12-year-old girl-me needed this show.

honestly though, the bisexual representation in spop feels like an afterthought. like glimmer had good chemistry with adora but i doubt that was intentional.

bow showed no signs of being bi except for when he was fanboying over seahawk? which came off more like hero worship, rather than bow actually having feelings for seahawk. (also anything romantic between them would be weird considering how seahawk is portrayed as an adult man)

there's also no proof for mermista being bi except for that one time she blushed when she saw she-ra.

seahawk has an ambiguous ex-boyfriend (which btw they never say that they were exes in the show) who was his dad in the original she-ra.

oh, and there's entrapta who is apparently exclusively attracted to robots and robotkind.

and if i remember correctly, hordak was also supposed to be bi and again, there's no canon confirmation of this.

amazing. this is exactly the kind of representation i, a bi person, would like to see. :D
