Apparently, this scene in Generations exists solely for one reason: to entice Bill Shatner into doing the movie.

The writers were literally like “hey cool guy, we know you love horses and we really really need you to be happy so we added a beautiful scene of you and Patrick riding horses. No, it has nothing to do with the plot. How does that sound?”

And Shatner was pleased but he wanted to use his own horses. No big deal, right?

Well, he made Paramount RENT his own horses from him.

Absolute outstanding move, Shatman.

What if in the upcoming Strange New Worlds Musical episode, we suddenly see Paul Wesley as Kirk disappearing into a room.

He abruptly reappears, walking out in a bowtie tux.

He has a stool and a microphone in hand.

He puts down the stool and promptly sits upon it.

He snatches out a "jazz cigarette", lights it, takes a generous drag, and begins:

"Packed my bag last night, pre-flight; zero hour, 9 am . . .

and I'm going to be high as a kite by then . . . "

The USS Enterprise crew:

*Whispering* "Maybe if we don't look he'll stop . . ."

"Captain, do something. Shut it down!"

have we considered the possibility (read as truth) that Shatner was simply in love with Nimoy and Kirk being in love with Spock was an accidental byproduct of that 🤨

I don't guess or presume character bleed unless it's specifically described by the actor or someone relaying what the actor told them, partially because it can get out of hand really fast but mainly because performing is a job. 95% of the time they're just doing their job well and honestly there's no telling which from the outside because on screen chemistry or performance is not a reliable indicator of real life chemistry. Real enemies play fake lovers, real lovers play fake enemies, real spouses turn out to have zero fake chemistry all the time, and one guess is as good as another. It's much safer (and keeps fandom much more sane tbh) to make 'they're good at their job' the default until you're specifically told otherwise by the source.
