What Bones doesn't know is that Spock can actually hear him rolling his eyes.

Everyone else on the Enterprise going on and on about like. How does Scotty do it. "How has he gotten the first officer who hates everyone to like him? How come THEY work so well together Scotty's the kindest warmest man I know!"
And thing about that is that Scotty is in fact warm and kind enough and above all emotionally available enough to realize that Spock — rather than being cruel or cold, as many others on the ship believe — has "got some issues of his own" as he puts it. Scotty doesn't consider it his business to understand exactly what Spock's hangup is, but he does consider it his business to be friendly with everyone he works with. You've got to be able to trust your coworkers, after all.
He's figured out that Spock gets "a bit jumpy" when you treat him like you might treat any regular human. Rather than try to poke and pry Spock out of his shell (something that's also necessary, but is Kirk's job, not his) he just acts professional and straight-to-the-point and minds his own business so to the extent that Spock doesn't just "tolerate" him, he really likes him. He says it's because he appreciates someone who can stay professional. But really it's more that he feels safer around him, as many people do. It's rare that Scotty crawls up his ass about being too logical, he rarely gets angry with him and he doesn't force him out of his comfort zone. When around Spock, he's practical, and easy to get things done with. He's a stabilizing presence. And a damn good engineer.
#Scotty being the only one who doesn’t give Spock a hard time in Galileo Seven ❤️❤️❤️#we stan#scotty#Spock#fave#Star Trek#tos

Spirk is so perfect because like nobody understands spock, nobody understood him - throughout his entire life. Nobody on Vulcan, definitely not his father and, God bless, not even Amanda at times. When he's growing up, he's the only half Vulcan, half human out there. He's too Vulcan for humans, he knows he's too Vulcan for even his own mother. He isn't able to tell her he loves her, give her the human affections he's aware she wants from him. He's too human for the Vulcans, his first welcoming words into the world were that he was too human from his father. He's stuck in this lingo of being too human and too Vulcan depending on who's perceiving him, and he wants to be just one full thing to someone. And then along comes kirk, a stupid googly-eyed human, who sees spock for Spock. He doesn't grant Spock's wish of seeing him as just one side (preferably his Vulcan), but he sees both those sides. Kirk absolutely adores both of them. Kirk loves Spock's logical (Vulcan) side, the side that most humans unfairly rage on, and compliments him constantly on his scientific abilities. Kirk also loves Spock's more emotional (human) side, he picks up on those little cues that most other humans miss. Kirk loves spock, not as half this and half that, but as a full person. Y'all getting this.
