✧ Fantasies in the dark
✦ Pairing: Arthur Morgan x Female!Reader ✦ Summary: In which Arthur catches a glimpse of your intimacy, the vision driving him into madness until he finally decides to give in to his urges. ✦ Warnings: SMUT 18+, MDNI! Masturbation, nudity, voyeurism (reader not aware he's staring), self-depreciation, and lots of shame from this poor man. Arthur's pov. ✦ Words: 2,7k Arthur's pic is mine, others are from Pinterest. And as always, as English isn't my first language, prepare for some possible misspellings. Read on AO3
Lately, Arthur had a problem. An incessant, disturbing, haunting problem.
He couldn’t sleep at night.
This could have been related to the gang’s precarious situation, being hunted down by the Pinkertons and surrounded by enemy gangs, O’Driscolls and Lemoyne raiders everywhere. Or even because of some older wounds, the loss of Eliza and Isaac amongst others, reminded almost every day by the complicated family portrait John painted with Abigail and Jack. Or the hurtful thought of the life he never had with Mary that was always following him since he had seen her again near Valentine. Life doomed from the start by his inherent violence and the mountain of corpses he was responsible for.
Arthur had plenty of reasons not to sleep at night. But this wasn’t because of any of that.
He couldn’t sleep because of you.
Not that it was your fault. In fact, you didn’t even know about any of that and Lord have mercy, he was praying that you’ll never find out; because he would never be able to look at you in the eyes then.
A few weeks ago, the gang had settled at Clemen’s Point. A rather pretty spot just near the lake, and not so far from town. But it wasn’t exactly the place that was causing him trouble. It was the unexpected view he was having from his tent.
For some unknown, mystical reasons, Miss Grimshaw while deciding the camp’s ajancement had decided to place your tent right next to his. Not so big of a problem at first sight, right?
Except that you were a night owl combined with the suffocating warmth of the place. Making you get to bed naked.
Oh, Arthur knew you do, because every night, every single one, you let a candle lit to read, or write, or God knows what before sleeping. The light casts your shadow against the tent’s canvas. The shadow of your very much nude body.
The first night Arthur had noticed, he had come back exhausted from a job in the middle of the night and laid on his cot without even taking the time to remove his boots or hat. A very usual and typical slice of his life, which lately felt more and more like a terribly used one. As if all these slices were repeating again and again. An accumulation of jobs and missions and robberies and fights; deceiving, lying, stealing, killing. Over and over again, going round and round. At night, he was reduced to a slumbered mind in a spent body, that was definitely becoming old and rusty. Already half asleep, mud and twigs surrounding his tired limbs, his thoughts all tangled up like a ball of wool, he had turned his head to his left, reaching from instinct for his pack of cigarettes on the little table next to his bed. Another slice of bad habits from a bad life.
That’s how his eyes had met with this quite erotic shape displayed on your tent.
Said eyes had grown so big that it had fully woken him up all of a sudden, as quickly as if someone had dumped a bucket of iced water on his shocked face. After half of a second of pure stabbing surprise and incomprehension with his hand hanged in the air, his breath stuck in his throat as if really being punched in the gut, he instantly turned his eyes back to the ceiling of his own tent. Cheeks burning red, heart pounding, as if someone had caught him in the act of doing a terribly shameful thing. Exactly as if he had really seen you naked.
He had feverishly grabbed the cigarette pack without looking at it, gaze refusing to turn again, these two blue diamonds locked on the ceiling of his tent, and had messily pulled one out of it, his shaky fingers fumbling, almost spilling everything on the ground.
He must have looked so damn ridiculous.
The smoke helped him to calm down, its soothing and comforting feeling spreading and burning through his lungs. He had fallen asleep, turned to the other side facing the wagon, trying not to think too much about the peek of your intimacy he had witnessed, telling himself it probably was going to be an isolated incident.
But of course, of course the Lord had to torment him even in the rare moments of peace he could have enjoyed.
Turns out this was apparently a habit of yours.
To be honest, he probably deserved to be tormented. But this was years from what he had in mind when it came to the Lord's punishment for his life of crimes.
And Arthur, even though a hardened man in many ways, able to lock lips during torture, kill men with bare hands, and stay emotionally strong in any kind of situation, was still only, after all, a man. A man with needs.
Filthy, disgusting needs.
He had tried to resist. Had tried not to let his eyes slip in your direction like that first night. Sometimes he would allow himself a quick glance, just to check if you were wearing any clothes for once, like a normal person. And maybe the night after would be different? Every evening spent at camp, his pupils would end up brushing the sinful silhouette in just a soft, slight sight, as if not to scare you, as if not to feel too bad about it.
But it was getting harder and harder not to stare. The easy lies about just checking on you or looking at anything else in the same area as your tent to have the chance of winning a glimpse of you would soon not be enough.
Just the mere fact that he knew you were completely bare, only a few meters away from him, singly the thin and superficial fabric of the tent between the both of you, was getting him hard and sweaty, and making his blood boil as a virgin teenage boy would. He could almost physically feel it, like a burning presence in his back when he was sleeping head against the wagon's wall.
The Human mind may be well designed for a lot of things; it forgets an event too hard to carry or can trick you into thinking you're not experiencing any physical pain in extreme situations. But Arthur had learned that it was extremely poorly made when it came to ignoring something. The more he was trying to not think about his unholy urges, the more he ended up being plagued with them. As sure as the seasons always turned in circles, you would come back to his effusive psyche.
And Oh, he was ashamed. Ashamed and revolted by himself. This was absolutely not in his habits, all the contrary. Yes, he was an old miserable bastard who had killed and plundered. But for God's sake, he had never acted obscene towards a lady before.
But the shame wasn't enough for him to stop. On the nights when the guilt was at its lowest —when the tediousness of his days was nibbling at his patience, he had let his eyes wander to your sinful figure, telling himself that maybe if he did, he could just go on with his night and finally rest. Just a quick taste, not too long.
But it only made things worse. It made him dream of you.
Dream of you stripped, his imagination taking the lead of what the tent’s fabric was preventing him from seeing. Dream of you moaning, taking him so tightly, welcoming him in your warm body and into your arms. Dream of the feeling of your skin under his fingertips, of the sight of your naked body squirming with pleasure. He would now often wake up frustrated and angry, if he had succeeded in sleeping at all, his member hard and throbbing on its own, his heart beating powerfully in his chest as if it had been real. His pants and blanket had even been damped one or two times.
What was he, a fifteen-year-old boy again? He was so angry and mortified by the physical obsession his body was having with you that he was constantly in a foul and fiery mood; bitter with everyone, his tension leaking into every movement and every word he spoke. He started missing targets when shooting, getting even more reckless and hot-headed during jobs, jobs often ending up missed or taken care of negligently, yelling at people when they weren’t fast enough, or clever enough, or silent enough, breaking things, breaking rules. The lack of sleep was making his deadly efficiency fade away, replaced by sloppy and messy gestures, stopping enemies from falling dead at his feet like his lethal skills always did, castrating the only thing that was left of his masculinity.
And yet, he couldn’t stop watching you from afar during the time he was at camp, telling himself he knew, or at least had an idea, of what you looked like without these clothes on; feeling a twisted sensation of pride imagining he was the only one who did. On top of that, your sweet personality and beautiful face weren’t helping him at all with his addiction. Filthy old bastard, stop it- he had to mentally slap himself to prevent staring at you for too long, especially staring at your chest that this goddamn dress you had chosen to wear wasn’t covering at all; or your ass these goddamn pants were fitting way too well.
Tonight, Arthur is avoiding going to bed too early. He knows he would just lay in it waiting for you anyway. Instead, he goes for a walk along Flat Iron Lake’s shores, bringing his journal with him. Two entire pages are already dedicated to your shadow. He had no idea a picture exclusively made of black and white flats on a sheet could have such a powerful erotic effect. Or maybe he is a complete degenerate —which, he is sure, is more and more true.
He has to be honest with himself, he could just go to a hotel, or out of camp for a few days to sleep under the stars, and the matter would be settled.
But he doesn’t want to. Because deep down inside, his urges are winning, making him feel like the most foolish and weakest man alive. He enjoys watching you. He enjoys seeing those forbidden plumped curves cast on this canvas. He feels like you're not leaving him any mercy, pitiless, his days dictated by the wait for his taboo rendez-vous, his nights by your sensual apparitions in his dreams.
He is trapped, you have completely tamed him, and irony of it all, have absolutely no idea you are making him feel like this.
This woman is drivin' me insane.
After a few hours on the cold shore's sand, his fingers only capable of creating quick little sketches and scribbles, his feet lead him back to camp. What a surprise. He finds most of the gang's members already asleep, apart from the ones on guard duty and some late campfire enjoyers talking about life, about love, grief, the future, the past. He briefly nods at them without a word and walks to his private space. He already knows what’s waiting for him there, your tent looking like it’s still illuminated, his thoughts and body avid for it.
No, don’t be a fool, Morgan.
He sits down on his cot. Mumbles to himself orders and curses to try and stay reasonable. Takes off his hat, runs a hand through his hair, sticky with sweat and dirt from his busy day, as all the other ones, as always. Scratches his beard and his ears with a sniff, tells himself he needs to take a swim into that lake. That he’s as dirty on the inside as he’s on the outside. Pulls down his suspenders before stretching his shoulders, a pained groan escaping him. A cigarette joins his lips, a match lights it, and he breathes in slowly. He tries to calm down, focusing once again on this homey feeling it brings him.
But his brows furrows. His lips tighten. He knows he won’t be able to hold on much longer. He needs to sleep properly. Even being the all-mighty Titan he is, he still needs a good night of sleep from time to time to keep the engine of his body turning, and you have kept it from him for days.
He lies to himself promising this is only for his health.
That this is the only way for him to stay focused during the day; the only way to rest properly and be at his best again tomorrow.
That this will be the only time he’ll do that.
His only moment of weakness.
The still-lit cigarette and his good conscience fall to the ground as he lies on his cot, settled on his left side, his right hand already roaming on his lower belly.
His eyes drop on the scene he had fantasized about for what seems like years to him at this point.
Lord have mercy…
Your shadow looks so perfect. He takes his sweet time to notice every detail of it, enjoying to the maximum his sinful behavior, now that he had succumbed to it. How you’re laying on your back, reading your book with your legs crossed. The curvaceous shape of your body looks divine to his insatiable gaze. Your hair messily tangled around your head. The silhouette of your chin and throat making him hungrier than any feast he could have attended. Your belly, rising and falling with your chest and breasts, gives the shadow an organic appearance. Your delicate legs, from the base of your thighs to your calves, to your feet, your toes mindlessly curling as you get lost in your story. And of course, the blurry outline of what was between them…
Damn it.
His hand quickly reaches his belt, unbuckles it, fiddles with his pants, opens them carelessly in an urgent grip. He spits in his palm, lashes out at himself when the desire of it being your wetness instead crosses his mind, and slips it between the buttons of his union suit. It finally wraps around his desperate shaft, gorged with blood, and he wonders if he already had been this hard before.
The moment he feels the pressure of his own fingers around it, he can’t help but sigh deeply through his nose, and has to physically block the groan he was about to let out.
Make no noise, moron.
He bites his lips to stop any other immoral sound from crossing through his mouth. Last thing he needs right now is to get caught. He slowly rubs one languorous time from up to down, then up again, his fingers brushing his swollen head right where he needs to. He instantly knows he won’t last. He had dreamed about this, about you, both during days and nights. His eyes are locked on your tantalizing silhouette, this deiform delicious flesh. Goddess of the night, Queen of his desires.
His hand rubs once again and his muscles tighten. He starts to stroke in a rhythmic pace, his moves are efficient, messy, careless. He masturbates the same way he takes care of himself —quickly, roughly, as if matching his disgust towards his own self. The exact opposite of what he would do to you if he could. This is pure physical relief.
Yes, God, yes…
Your name turns in his mind between blasphemous curses as he pleasures himself, stroking faster and faster, delightful warm sensations spreading through him. Finally. The burning is no longer in his back or mind; it's right there around his erection, flames licking all around it.
He wants to be able to join you there, so badly. He wants to discover the tone of your bare skin in those places you never show to anyone. He wants to whisper sweet things in your ear and you to sigh back, your voice high and softly shaking from pleasure. He wants the lewd intimacy, the shared tension and the electric, exciting touch of two foreign skins discovering each other for the first time. He wants to see your hardening nipples he can only have a glimpse of through the fabric.
He wants to have you, to take you, consume you, all to himself. He wants you to think about him the same way he is now, wants you to come while thinking of him, only him, your mouth to moan, whimper, scream even, all thanks to him.
He wants your hand instead of his, around his cock right now, pressing harder, moving faster.
Yes, yes, jus’ a bit more darlin’… -
A movement from you, a real one, makes his pace slow down and his heart stops, afraid you might have by some sort of divine knowledge understood what was happening. But you’re just shifting in your bed, positioning yourself on your belly with your book open against your pillow, and Arthur’s balls spasm; he now has the most perfect view of your ass, its gorgeous, decadent round and plumped contour making his member twitch in his fist.
Ahh, shit… So god damn perfect…
Pearls of sweat leak from his forehead to his neck. His ears shut close to the outside world, his surroundings completely disappearing. Now, there’s only you and your perfect back beautifully arched ending with your perfect bottom and him, and no one else’s on Earth. His breath is jerky, his entire face completely crimson, his fingers pumping so hard and fast he’s basically fucking his hand —your hand, with those wet and unmistakable noises filling the air.
His breath speeds up as Arthur feels his deliverance coming, blood rushing in his veins. He sees himself behind you grabbing fistfuls of your cheeks, he sees his erection diving deep between them. And it's the last straw. His brows are crunched in an exquisite expression of pure sexual delight, jaws so tensed he’s about to break his teeth, your pleasure-filled voice screaming his name in his head, dragging every sensation out of him. His orgasm hit him with the strength and speed of a thunderstorm, lightning bolts of satisfaction striking every fiber of his body.
Yes! Yesss —Damnit!
He comes hard with a low and throaty growl he forgot to —or couldn't repress, silently repeating your name again and again, his lower lip almost cut open from how hard he had bit himself, an enormous vein on his forehead where sweat covers his skin. His thick, hot cum spills messily in an indecently large amount, the aftermath of having held himself back for so long, leaking on his pants and fingers and staining his cot; a dash of white contrasting with the darkness of what he just did.
He’s praying to the Lord and the Devil, any mystical forces known to man, that nobody had heard his final relief sound, especially not you. It was louder than what he would like to admit.
Shit, so damn good…
Using his black bandana, he roughly cleans himself then tosses it somewhere on the floor, his cock finally softening as he shoves it back under his clothes, balls empty. And it feels good. So good a wave of shame and guilt crashes onto him once more. What a pig he was for jerking off while ogling you. What an old bastard he was to mingle you and his filth. But at the same time, he feels like his muscles are thanking him, his restless flesh satisfied, even though he almost hurt himself with how fast he had stroked, lost in his haze.
His bittersweet and contradictory feelings accompanied him as he took a last glance at your tent before drifting off to sleep, his breathing still a bit raspy as if he had run for hours. You had closed your book and taken the candle between your hands to blow on it, the little flame flickering before fading. And then, darkness.
The curtains falling on the stage at the end of this private decadent act.
Eyelids heavy, Arthur knows he will finally sleep tonight.
But he also knows this isn’t the end of his torments at all; the conflicting thoughts paint his mind just as the sun pierces through the dark ebony clouds of a thunderstorm, creating those abruptly dazing shapes and color, pitch black laced with blinding light.
Never in this life or the Other he will forget the form of your naked body, no matter how wicked he feels. Because when it comes to you and only you, Arthur Morgan is, indeed, a very weak man.

care for me?
pairing: Messmer the Impaler / Wife! Reader
synopsis: exhausted, you try to stay up for the arrival of your husband. only he doesn’t come back the same man.
wk: 1.1k
warnings: mention of death, violence. mostly fluff
A/N: EJ come, water! (no seriously enjoy Messmer lovers) this was a request, thank you for the suggestion anonymous!
Enjoy!
It was so cold.
Dreary winds busted across the little home, invading the shack with freezing temperatures that nipped at one’s bones.
The girl of said residence could not battle such a feat alone; so she lay bundled up in many cottons and wools that cascaded her form just in front of the fire pit.
With her teeth clanking together, she drew in a particular large blanket that seemed to swallow her whole being.
She was trying— attempting, to stay away for her husbands arrival.
“He— he will be here soon,” giving herself words of comfort, little fingers smoothed over the skin of her arm.
Back and forth they went, seeking any form of warmth they could gather.
But, she was getting tired. It had been hours since his departure.
So, with a defeated huff, her lashes fluttered.
Eyes now shut, her form slumped against the wooden boards.
Maybe she could greet her doting husband upon the fields of dreams
Everything went wrong.
His mother… his own mother…
A cry, weak and low left Messmers lips as he shuddered in pain—agony.
Instead of telling the citizens, the people what had been done of the shadow lands of between, his mother lied.
She blamed the knight of flames for his part in the destruction. Blamed him for the plans, the deaths, the innocent lives gone—
“O, Mother!” Just outside the home, Messmer sat. His head tilted towards the ground in shame as his long nails twisted and pulled at his cheeks.
Blood seeped down almost instantly, yet he couldn’t find the energy to care.
Tears streamed down his face in waves, meeting the bloody patches along the way.
His nails tore and scratched at any skin that came in contact, only making his wounds worse.
“Does thou… not perceive mine own consciousness?” A yellowed Iris glanced forth upon the house.
His home.
Only now realizing he made it back, a shudder ran through him.
“Wife,” he whimpered. “Please… forgive me.”
Only the sound of wind greeted his ears, as his now bloody and weakened form pushed against the stone. Slowly making his way to the wooden door merely a foot away.
The flowers lay dormant, the fields around him lay bare and dead. Much like the lands he left behind his wake.
With bodies, upon bodies—
“Augh! No more!” With a slam, the door receded against his strength, banging out against the wall behind.
The ball of blankets jumped up in surprise, a head peeked out from the warm egg shaped cocoon the girl placed herself in.
Messmers eyes softened upon such a sight, he couldn’t help but let out a little smile seeing the girls attempt to warm herself.
“little wife,” he called. Already on his way to the girl sitting about the floor.
“husband!” she cried, reaching out her hands to signal for the man’s embrace.
He gladly accepted, sweeping her into his arms and cradling her head soothingly.
“I’ve missed you,” little sweet kisses dotted across his neck, to his jaw and up the face.
“What— what happened?” Her lips met with a red and open wound, to which the flame winced at.
He had forgotten about such a display.
“It’s nothing, dear wife,” big palms rubbed along her sides. “an accident, nothing more.”
Fear began to corrode his mind, it crumbled and tore at the seams of sanity.
People will come for him.
For his betrayal, his slaughter.
His wife— gods what has he done?
A hand pulled him back, it was soft and careful as it cradled the man’s left cheek.
“It’s okay,”
She didn’t know what was wrong, only that something was amiss.
For the man was troubled, that much was clear.
“I… listen closely, my heart.” Setting her upon the ground he looked down at her form, so much smaller than his own.
His back had to bend uncomfortably to meet her gaze but he ignored such pain.
Big palms surrounded her face, angling her eyes to meet with his.
“We need to go, does thou need anything before our leave?”
“Leave?” She shrieked. “This is our home… why would we leave so—“
“Please, please wife understand me so. I cannot dote on such a matter yet but please.” A desperate yellowed eye looked upon both of hers
“I will protect thee. With mine own blade, with mine own body. But we need to leave, most ardently”
Confused and somewhat scared, the girl could do nothing but nod her head. Even when he placed a mirage of kisses upon her, she did nothing but look upon the man.
Almost as if to study him— understand him.
Soon, she was lightly pushed into the direction of their room.
“Grab what thy can carry and need.” Messmer had said.
So she did.
She grabbed her favorite blanket, the one that had been with her since birth.
She grabbed her jewelry box that lay full of gifts from the knight.
And finally, she grabbed the last vials of homemade oils. Lavender scented, which always seemed to calm her husband down whenever it graced her soft skin.
Seeing his wife’s hands full, Messmer acted. Gently picking her up, the objects shifted about as a bridal style posture was given upon her.
Head now bumping with his armor with every movement, she decided to speak.
“Are you alright, husband?”
This was an opening.
A pristine opportunity to tell her of his forthcomings.
Of his tidings with his mother.
Of the burning lands.
Even of the soon to be castle that will be there home for god knows how long.
Messmer only looked down, peacefully admiring his wife so.
“Everything will be fine, my wife. Thou can sleep while the travel begins.”
He was a coward. Biting down upon his cheeks blood ran across his tongue, to the back of his throat.
Past all the lies and short comings, two thing stay true; he adored his wife
and he would do anything to protect her.

A song of liars and beggars: part II
— Emperor Geta x Reader (Salacia)
— 5.3k words.
— Read all parts here: Part I — Part II — Part III — Part IV
Summary: You were raised outside of this Rome. Born into peace. To know of fathomless deep seas, and skies so big, they wrapped around your whole sight. The way that at night all you can smell are lemon trees kissed by salt. The jasmine plants wound around the white walls of the villa. Salacia. And now you are sent to Rome for your father in the Senate. There you will catch the attention of Geta; in all the wrong and darkest of ways— any reblog and comments are greatly appreciated 💙💙💙
TW: for this chapter; mainly violence and cruelty and mentions of death/imprisonment. also this has turned long winded im so sorry- i wish i could just bang out some gratuitous smut but noooo i need 7k of angst before penetration apparently --
The cell you are thrown into is poky small.
When the guards push you into it, you stumble and you fall. Stone breaks your landing. Collapsing in the dusty dirt. Soiling your pretty blue dress. The sea blue churned into mud. Into filth. Spoiled tide.
Bloody grit and sand sticking to your chin that still drips blood. Ichor dripped on your silk chest. Lip throbbing. Body bruised into the colour of nightshade petals.
You twist back, eyes blurred with tears, to see the dark expression under the Roman guards helmet.
Who spits at your feet and calls you a traitorous whore. He was the same one whose ring of fingertip bruises now circled your upper arm. Even though you were in chains.
Your surroundings are grim. There’s no window. No bearings. A bucket with filthy stagnant water sits in the corner.
The air is stale. Packed close and scorching. It reeks of piss and decay. Necrosis. Festering. Yellow bleached skulls. You hear the wailing shouts of men. The rattle of chains. You will be left down here until they come to take you. In whatever form that may be. Beheading. Or a stoning.
Maybe the Emperors really are gods. Those twin golden growling wolves. And now they’ve thrown you down to the underworld. Left you down here with the dying and the dirt and the vermin for company.
The walls are grimy stone, and strung with chains. Torches the only lick of civilised orange light in these otherwise miserable caverns. Rats creep along the floors - the scurry and click of claws. Not that they’ll find any scrap of food near here. There’s none to be had. Not even corpses. Death isn’t merciful enough to visit here.
Bile coats the back of your tongue. Sour and acetic. The men in the cells opposite you m, sneer and call filthy propositions in the dark. Dark so thick it was like wool. Ask to see under your pretty dress. Leering at you. Puckering kisses.
You are a rare drop of clean ocean in this savagery to them. Pure. A blue crocus blossoming in a crack in the barren dessert. Wash away the sin. Their rotten teeth shine in the dark like knives. Hungry and waiting.
You curl into a ball in the corner. Bring your knees to your chest. Cower in the shadows as the rats run past your feet. Clammy tails flicking over your toes.
You sob quietly. Arms folded. One smashed elbow drying to sticky blood, stuck with grit from your collapse.
Your father was torn away before you could see what happened or where they took him. You heard his shouts at Macrinus, his begging, but couldn’t see where he was taken. You couldn’t bear thinking about the alternative.
Your brothers body will be laying in a paupers grave somewhere you’ll never know. Never be able to go and lay orange gladiolus flowers before his headstone. Forgotten. Your mother will be told nothing of this- of you. Of the supposed treason-
Or maybe a garrison of soldiers were already marching on their way to deliver news. To slaughter the traitors family in that white villa by the sea. Smear crimson up the walls- droplets of red splashed on the jasmine petals. You think of the linen shifts your sisters ramble around in. You think how the perfect hues of soft blues and olives greens will be ruined with the garish red of blood-
You squeeze your eyes shut. Drops of salty ocean squeezing down your cheeks. And even that is of no use to you now. Landed sea nymph. Away from the oceans call. And now you’re bound for desolation. Gasping. Dying. Dragged to land by men who want to pick at your scales and leave you raw, bare.
You never should’ve left home. Not for a distant hollow man and his even emptier words.
Sleep doesn’t come to you. Nor are you awake. You slouch, curled on the cold dirty floor and envelop yourself into the grit and dirt. Abrasive on your soft milk-and-honey skin. The cornflower blue of your dress matted with mucky earth.
You enter a state between waking and sleep. A shallow one, spliced with sliced necks, pooling blood on biscuit coloured sand, and your brothers final cry.
Sounds start chipping at you. The slap of metal. Clicking and shuffling steps.
A jolt across your cell rouses you from your purgatory. Head snapping up on your shoulders. When you accustomed your eyes to the dim, the sight of the person unlocking your cell, makes your stomach plummet.
General Acacius.
There’s no mistaking him for another. That unmistakably noble profile. The firm set of his brow. His aquiline nose. The curl and bend of his greying hair. The way he looks at you - it might just be the kindest thing you’ve been awarded in this abrasive hell you find yourself in.
You raise to your wobbly feet. Heart felt like it had taken to thudding in your throat. Choking tempo as it beats there. Muscle thick and ticking on the back of your tongue.
One thought echoed around your mind; this was to be the path to your death.
You were being led by the General of the armies of Rome. It seemed a grand imposition for escorting a mere slip of a traitor to her death.
War has thickened his body. Muscular arms swing from a wide back and shoulders. Sun weathered skin which spoke of his time out in the elements, fighting for the glories and victories of Rome. Age lay in the silver threaded though his hair. The muted pain in his gait of past injuries catching up with him. Body littered with scars that probably ache and tug. Mars made flesh. Glory for Rome. Victory.
You swallowed. Throat dry. Easing your way to the door on uncertain feet. Hands clasped in chains still. They feel heavy as mountains to carry along. He’s come with guards. Four of them. Armed and marching to the beat of his strides. A valorous man indeed.
You step close to the heavily armoured man. Salty tears leaking down your cheeks that you don’t care to bat away. Atleast one spec of home will cling to your skin when life is gone. Even if it is only your silly scared tears.
He leans close to you when you come to the door
Suddenly a warm hand - calluses and hard furrows that only come from years of grasping a sword hilt - is around your forearm to steady. He unlocks the iron heavy chains and cuffs that surround your wrists. The chafing welts they left circling your wrists as the only impression of your imprisonment.
It’s the kindest touch you’ve felt in what seems like years.
You look at him with incredulity. He claims it all off you so easily. You were easy to devour. Every emotion worn open on your face.
Your lashes glued together with tears. Eyes so wide. Big and shining and they must reflect spring sun off beaded waves like a blanket of sapphires. A question lingers, tucked back shyly behind your teeth. Unable to wander off the curl of your tongue.
Why are you unlocking my hands?
He tilts his head at you. It’s almost chiding.
An unexpected warmth flows from his dark eyes. It’s too dark down here in this filthy stuffy pit to discern their colour. They swing somewhere between bronze and amber.
There is a mercy in them, a mercy to him, you’ve seldom seen anywhere else. Let alone a man as slaked in blood as he is.
Maybe it’s mercy- more likely that it’s pity.
He throws the shackles aside to the guard. Eyes for a long moment the way the iron has cut into your wrists. Raw skin. Damaging such a fine beautifully untouched creature.
He’s certain there’s worse damage to come to you.
His voice when he speaks is honey thick. Deep as it carved down all the rock walls around you. Louder than the clanking of chains and the wails from prisoners. Whom, you noticed, suddenly quieted down. They were whipped when they spoke up, you guess. So they go quiet. Like cowed dogs.
“I’ve slaughtered many a traitor in my time. You don’t seem a danger to me, or my men.” He observed. It’s both a warning and a comment.
It’s ridiculous really. The thought you could be a threat. All slippery, skin soft and coveted as a purely formed ocean pearl.
When you are in fact shivering in a silky thin dress the colour of harmless cornflowers. Huddled in your cell corner gently spilling tears. No hint of resistance or fiery hatred. No storm to be found here in your veins that houses entire oceans and their tempestuous wrath.
He knows innocence when he sees it. That rare, very rare, taste that clings to his tongue like sugary sweet ripe fruit. Something to cut and slice through all the ichor and viscera he all too well knows the flavour of. There’s a calmness to you. A damned sort of acceptance. Calm as still waters.
“Come.” He tilts his head. “The likes of you doesn’t belong down here.” You with your stock of noble blood, shouldn’t perish forgotten in these filthy caverns.
He walks to the pathway that you vaguely recall you were led down. The one that ascends steps and up into daylight. Out from the dust and the dirt and the still living bones of the trapped and the damned.
“General. Pray tell me. Is my father dead?” You ask. Whisper a pathetic imitation of your voice. Raw and weak. Choking on the unknown.
His face is stiff. He doesn’t seem inclined to reply.
“I cannot give you answers.” He chides. He turned his back to you. And his brute tone slaughtered any further enquiry you may have felt compelled to make.
You shrink down as you fell into step. Being led in your dirty dress, littered in cuts and scrapes.
Numerous guards form a metal lined wall around and behind you. Shields and swords and the metal clink of their steps. Trapping you. Armoured cage for a pretty captive. You wince when the new sunlight hits your eyes. Bright and acidic. Gulp for thick air that meets your lungs like ambrosia.
You walk and follow, silently. Waiting to come to the place you’d die.
Expecting to be led to gallows. Or an executioners block. Maybe even a court lined with people, one where you’d be trialed to death for a plot you’d no idea even existed. Maybe you’d be shoved into the coliseum on the next fight to be mauled to shreds by lions. Gouged by teeth and claw. Die screaming in the same dirt as your brother did.
It doesn’t come. None of that comes.
Your surroundings change again and you find yourself outside the grand walls of the coliseum. Looking up at the huge enormity of its powerful walls. The golden stone standing proud against the searing blue sky.
You’re marched across the dusty dirt of a yard, to yet another cage; this one held bars just like your previous one. A cage built on the back of a cart that has two horses ready to pull it along the capital roads. The general opens the barred door and gestures guards in around you.
One of the soldiers hit you forwards with a harsh shove. The back of his sword hilt. A hard enough shove for you to know it would purple to a bruise soon enough. Mulberry purple staining your skin at the back of your hip. You barely even yelp.
The general admonishes the soldier harshly for his rough treatment. You were to be brought - unmolested.
A word the Emperor had ordered with a growing wolfish grin.
“Where am I being taken?” You dare ask. Words crack out your throat. Unused. Thirsty. Timid. Ocean starved. All this dry land is making you dizzy and miserable.
He explained. Tone grave. Before you are pulled inside the bars. Caged once more.
“You’ve been summoned.”
“By whom?” You seek.
His eyes weight into you. Wrapped in pity and severity. His words clang around your head. Coffin nails. Just like bars he shut around you.
“You’ve been requested by the Emperor himself.”
~
You struggle to comprehend the enormity of the palace before you.
Palatine hill boasted of the richest and finest palaces in all of Rome. Including the imperial palace. The huge sprawling building. The importance and grandeur of these halls weighted on you like tonne heavy rocks.
You feel like a smear of dirt among these polished white walls and halls. Crawling with servants and guards. Stuffed with so much riches and finery. You’ve heard tale of how Emperors were hand picked by the gods. They were gods to the people they reigned over.
You are escorted once again out of a yard and into this place you’d heard only grand things about. Marched along corridors longer than you’d ever known. You saw fountains spitting streams of clear crystalline water and imperial gardens with huge tropical plants. Statues of marble and tiled mosaic floors that shine as if recently scrubbed.
Guards at every door. Servants clad in cloth finer than you’ve ever owned - or touched - they carry huge platters of bread or bowls spilling over with plump fruits. Large amphora jugs of wine held aloft in careful hands. This seemed like a luxurious heaven. You wondered if you’d see clouds, goddesses and sun beams even from your lowly mortal perch.
The guards keep you in step. Hauled along so fast you feel blisters aching at the balls of your feet. As you’re traipsed in. Bloodied and low. Beaten down. Your split lip has dried to a cut. You worry it with your tongue. The little whip cracks of pain a reminder of your mortality - one you’re certain you will be relieved of soon.
You are brought to a set of huge imperial doors by the general. Who is bid to enter right away.
Your eyes don’t know where to settle first; the room is one of the richest displays you’ve ever seen. Orange fabric the colour of vibrant mandarins, hangs in drapes over the open arches and doorways. Mosiac floors polished to a shine. There’s gold and marble statues and plinths. Paintings in dark deep colours of battle scenes. Swords and blood and male glory. As if it had come to life right before your eyes. This room is threaded with gold and devotion to male gods.
As is the man who sits leisurely awaiting you on a padded lectus. One spilling with tasseled silken cushions to soften his seat. Emperor Geta.
His robes were the same as when you last saw him. Dark jewel colours of black and blue. Gems cast in gold on each finger. Dark cloths with gold items of jewellery on his breast in the form of a broach. So much gold you don’t now where to test your eyes first.
Maybe he is a god. He certainly has all the riches of one. Stood before you as if he were Jupiter and all his delights. Thunderbolts seeping from his powerful fingers.
A golden crown of laurels ringing his light waved hair. His eyes was where true darkness laid; dark kohl ringing eyes the colour of the darkest Umbrian. Earth of shadow.
He was idly picking at food laid on a rose petal strewn table before him. You’ve never seen an offering of food so large and all for one. Cups of wine. Bread. Dried Fruit and a tiered stand flowing with fresh fruit. Some cheeses. Meats and fish. All laid on plates for him to pick over and discard, or saviour at his behest.
You wonder which category you’d fall into- the former appears the more likely.
Your stomach pangs for the smell of the freshly baked bread. The sweetness of the fruit. The tart wine. Tongue dry as sand and sluggish in your mouth.
“There you are. My little sea nymph.” He sneers over at you. One side of his lip curls upwards.
In panic, you bend the knee and bow your head, subservient, meek, and that makes him smile more.
He’s snapped his regal bejewelled fingers and had you bought to him. Bloodied and blinking dust out your eyes. Dirt stroked on your once fine dress. It now hangs in shredded tatters at the hem by your sandals. Blood spots dried like rusted petals. Brutal handling from guards lay in the bruises now scattering your lovely arms and the welts banding your wrists.
You want to cower behind the wall of guards. But you are rudely thrown forwards. Those shadowy eyes trace over your poorly clad form; you do feel like a minuscule scrap of dirt. A crack in a looking glass. A tarnish on something gleaming golden. The smear of imperfection allowed to exist in this heavenly palace.
He sees your hands are loose by your sides; unbound.
“Why is she not in chains, General? Have we stopped chaining our prisoners” He asks. Ire woven into his words. Eyes unflinching and hard and he scowls at Acacius. Who remained unmoved even in the face of his petulant wrath.
“I saw no need to chain her. Emperor. Such a woman in her position could surely not be a threat to you.” It’s a barb. A small sensible thorn, perhaps.
You flick your eyes across to the General.
“I didn’t even have to draw my sword or threaten her. She came willingly.” He tells his Emperor.
Like a sweetly led fool. A sacrificial creature led blindly to her own slaughter.
The guards stand to attention. Unwavering. Wall of armour and swords around your back as you cower. Eyes cast to the floor as you’re being discussed like a slab of meat. Something without autonomy or feeling.
You can feel Getas eyes on you still. Hard and weighty as warm metal. Searing into your skin. The way livestock are branded.
Those eyes are unrelenting. Violating. Scouring you up and down some more. Inspecting the span of your hips. The dip of your waist. The fall of your chest. Plump of your breasts and hips. The once pristine coil of your knotted hair.
Goddesses would envy you. The furies would want to tear down your beauty and goodness in wrath. Scratch out your eyes. Shear your hair. Anything to steal the golden thread of goodness from you.
Juno had blessed you and kept you indeed. Like you’re fresh out of her temple and sparkling with promise. He knew it the second he saw you. He made up his mind to have you then.
You had something. Something wrapped inside yourself like a shell protecting a pearl. Something good and virtuous. He wanted you all for himself.
If he was good as a god, then blessing himself with a wife who was a gift from the most beloved goddess was his right.
He can smell lemons and salt. And wondered if he inhaled the nubile skin of your neck and hair if then he’d find the source of it. Made him want to bite down on that supple neck and leave his mark-
“An unlikely source for a traitor do you not think so, General?” He asks.
General doesn’t answer but his expression is very telling. “My spies tell me she was not in the capital for two days before the suspected treason.” He offers.
Your stomach lurches, manages to tie itself into knots. Clammy sweat prickles your brow and your neck.
“Maybe she wasn’t aware of the plot. An unwilling participant dragged into the sordid scheme.” Geta speculates.
No answer comes from you still.
“Is she mute? I certainly heard her screams well enough at the coliseum.” He mocks. Impatient.
“Speak. Your Emperor demands it.” The General barks at you. You flinch at his sudden raised voice. Finally trailing your eyes from the mosaic tiles.
“I am not mute. Your majesty.” You explain. Feeling the tickle of humiliated tears at your eyes.
“I can offer no plea for innocence, except the truth that I had no knowledge as to my fathers schemes.”
Because no such schemes existed. Macrinus should be here in chains instead of you. The lying snake. He orchestrated the whole thing.
Geta savours your words. Drinks them in the way he’d taste wine. Rolls them around in his mouth.
He merely nods slightly. You hold your breath for his response.
“Come.” He sneers. “There’s something I want you to see.”
He guides you across to the huge marble pillars which guarded the open mouth of the balcony.
You walk behind him and come to the balustrade of white marble. Peering over the ledge. Out into the courtyard below where a cluster of soldiers and horses are gathered close.
“The soldiers will ride on my command.” He tells you. Sick delight in the power he wields.
When they pull away, and the sight below is exposed to you, your entire body wrenches forwards. Desperation grips you violently. A cry shattered out your throat.
They were going to quarter your father before your very eyes.
He stood, small and beaten, blood pouring from a gash to his head, in a filthy cloth tunic, because they’d humiliated him. Had him stripped of his noble senate robes.
His limbs each tied to separate riders on separate horses. When they galloped off in different directions, he would be torn to pieces. Barbaric.
Through a blackened eye and a swollen brow your father gazes up at you. Despair on his face. A once strong man brought so very low. It wounds you.
Geta is drinking in your every expression. The full horror and pain writ across your pretty face.
“No. No, mercy, please. Your majesty. I beg of you. Mercy.” You babble.
Eyes wide with desperation. Voice breaking as surely as your heart was. Cracking in two in your chest. Sharp as glass shards. Clinking to pieces sharp enough to make your insides bleed anew.
“Why should I spare a liar? Salacia?” He asks you. “Why should I not make an example of what happens to traitors in my court…” He demands. Eyes locked on you.
“He’s offered me things I don’t want or need to delay his death. Money. Information. I cannot help but feel it’s inevitably drawn him closer to it.”
He raises his hand, calmly. You sob. The riders bolt to attention. One more move and that would be it.
You flew for him. Unrestrained. Desperate. Willing to beg on your knees if needs be. You put yourself in front of him. Put your hands to him.
The General and his guards drew swords and came close. Geta turned and and ushered them back with a harsh wave of his fingers. He was enjoying this too much. The nature of despair- the clammy stench of desperation pouring off you like ocean waves.
You could only think of one instance that might appease his lust for blood-
Dying in the place of your elder for his crimes was all you had. All you clutched in your empty injured hands.
“Let me take his place. Put the bonds on me instead. Let me take his punishment. Make me the example.” You beg. Tears shiver and fall down your cheeks. Burning drips of salt spear at your lash-line.
In your desperation you cling to Getas chest. Your nails raking gold and the fine threads of the fabric coat he wore. He didn’t seem to mind. He seemed amused by it.
“Little Salacia.” The way he used your name with a brazenly satisfied smirk altered something in you.
An arm winds itself around your hip. Cups the back. Pressed a bruise that you want to hiss in pain at. But can’t.
His other hand rings your neck. Ghosts his thumb over the curve of your chin. Smearing tears with the gold and jewels on his fingers. You gasp. Air emptying out your lungs in one fell swoop.
“You have so much more to offer your Emperor than your death.” He says quietly. His meaning became intimate. Wrapped in insinuation.
Your mouth opened, no sound came. Your lower lip trembles. You glance down at your father who is crying. Straining, wrenching forwards at his bonds. Desperate to keep you from this.
Geta takes his hand and runs his hand through one knotted lock of it for a moment. Leaning in to savour the smell of you. He moans with it.
Definitely lemons. Mixed with something briny salt, the ocean. In odes to your name.
Your father sees this. The closeness. The insulation that this man would take you. He shouts from his bonds below. Begging.
“By the gods, spare her.” He cries.
“Not my daughter. It is my crime. Take me. I am here. Take me!”
With your father and oldest brother dead, your mothers and sisters would be destitute. They would be reduced to beggars. Brought low. With him alive they were respectable- reduced in honour perhaps, but at least they’d live.
Tears bite at your eyes. You let them. Blink them away.
“What’s say you? My patience is wearing thin…” Geta bullies. Hand dropping from your hair.
It pushes you to act.
“Servitude of my body. I will enslave myself to your every whim. Emperor.” You say through tears. Every sordid whim.
“Exile him.” Youoffer.
Geta’s eyes gleam to that. Intrigued. You would exile and dishonour your own father?
“Exile him from Rome and the Senate, and send him back to Corsica to be with my mother and sisters. Where he is needed.” You implore.
“And what of you, how will you serve me?” He drawls.
“I will stay here and act as your servant in whatever manner you wish.” You accept.
“I have servants. Little nymph. I don’t require any more servants. I don’t need whores or courtesans. What I do require, however, is a wife. One who will give me strong heirs.” He smiles. Clutching your hip in a strong, thick fingered hand.
Your throat constricts. Tears squeeze. As if he’s fisted a hand around your throat and squeezed and choked until you gave. Melted into his hands pliant.
Geta has you exactly where he wanted you. As he planned.
“I need your word you’ll spare him if I agree.” You counter. Eyes hard as diamond tips. Still watery and half logged in tears.
“My word is bond. He will leave this city unharmed.” He assures. Displeased at your doubt.
Clever little nymph, too. To bargain with a god.
Asking an Emperor like him to pledge his fealty. Were you any other commoner he’d have your tongue cut out for that insolence.
Then again, cornered creatures will snap and bite and claw for survival. They will do anything.
“Then I agree.” You cry. “I accept.”
His smirk grows. Wolfish. Unsticking a coil of hair from the blood on your cheek. And he’s close. Too close for your comfort.
“You will be my Empress.” He decides.
“My wife and my property. I will own you in every manner there is. You will give me healthy sons that will dethrone my brother.”
Those words make you shrivel inside.
What have you just agreed to. You may have delayed your fathers demise. But it appears you’ve just turned the sword aimed his way to your belly. Chalked a target on your own back instead- an eye for an eye-
He turns, keeping you in his hold, he lowers his hand.
“Exile that snake out of Rome. This instant-“ He orders sharply. “Take him to the city walls and tell him never to return or I will have his head on a platter for me and my wife.”
You watch with thinly veiled relief as the guards come in to cut his bonds and drag him by the collar.
You want to run to him. You want to embrace him and tell him to return to mother with kind words and love. He is dragged away out of sight.
Bleeding and battered. But safe.
You lock eyes. Same colour as yours, shaded ocean, surrounded by bloated skin and blood sheeting his face. Cut with paths of tears rolling down, before he is gruffly marched away. Dazed, bound, and bleeding. He is choking on his sobs too.
You didn’t even get to say goodbye. Nothing. No familial words. No kindness.
He was torn from you. Now your every whim is stolen away. Dictated by this man. This cruel stranger. One who would bed you and keep you cowed like a broodmare.
You stood there. Watching down on the scuffled marks in the dirt where he’d once been. Dust clouding. Now empty. It seemed like an illusion. Had it all just passed like air. Like a warm sea breeze. Your life altered in one brief moment of mercy and begging.
Geta turns to his General. “You are dismissed. Leave. Go win my wars.” He sneers curtly.
Acacius took his leave with a frown and a bow. Look directed to you as he did. “Emperor. Empress.”
The Emperor snapped his fingers. And within seconds, servants scurried silently from other rooms. A handful of maidens came. Long hair unbound. Robes of orange and blue. He snapped his orders at them. They folded their hands in front of themselves. Heads low as they obeyed.
“Escort my new bride to her chambers. Have her bathed and made presentable. Put her in something decent. We will marry at dusk.” He informs. Glancing you up and down with a leer.
“Then she will grace my bed. Doing her duty like a proper wife.”
He strides over to you where you stand on the balcony, the marble thing holding you up. All strength sapped. Your knees and arms and bones were water. Not marrow.
It was always foam whipped off the waves that made you up. And now you sagged with it. Plaint and drowning. A sad drowned maiden in her brook. A doomed saint of the sea.
“Leave her hair unbound. I like it down.” He orders. Wrenching his hand to the back of your neck. You wither under his touch. He senses this.
“Be grateful. I spared your filthy treasonous father. But I can still make your existence an unpleasant one if I choose.” He warns.
He leans close to claim your mouth in a kiss so sudden and brazen it makes you weak.
His lips are pillow soft and anything but delicate. His tongue seeks your mouth, licks the blood off the healing cut. Moans sordidly when he does. He kisses like a starving hound.
A trail of spit connects your mouths when he pulls away. He smears it to your chin with a finger. Rubs his essence into your skin to stay forever stained.
“I eagerly await to taste more of you later. Empress. Don’t disappoint me. It’s not a wrath you want to risk.”
“Yes, Emperor.” You sigh.
He leaves you so quick, you almost keel over. The servants wait patiently to escort you out in his absence.
In the faraway sky, over the capital, new clouds sag and bloat. Darkly stalking across the once clear blue. The sky turns to grey and churning clouds. It’s too bad you couldn’t see the sea. You had a feeling there would thrashing, heaving storms and waves double the size of these damned palace walls.
Thunder crashes in the distant gathering dark. The ocean wanted you back. Neptune’s rage for the loss of you. You picture home. Humble white walls. The wind so fierce it ripped petals clean off the climbing vines of jasmine. The lemon trees swaying and rocked violently. News of treason and abduction reaching your sisters’ horrified ears. Your mothers cries in situ with the storm.
You watch at the sky until rain pelts the marble walls like lashes. Rain dots your skin. Cold stroking your hair and shoulders. Marring dark blue arrows down your ruined dress. Maybe you’re grieving-
A servant girl has to hook a hand on your shoulder and kindly try to urge you inside. Your tears entwined with the howling rain. It feels like that’s all that’s left of you.

Pairing: preacher's son!yunho x reader Genre:[smut] yunho disguised as the devil brainrot Warnings: religious themes, corruption kink a/n: yea.
(also, sidenote, but it was kinda hard translating some of the christian terms bc i grew up with those but in my native language so bear w me
it always came back to that golden cross.
the token of Christ that he held around his neck, dangling on his chest as if it held the symbolism of carrying the holy figure in his heart.
ha. the irony of that.
you watched intently as the tall boy stood in the background. he didn't blend in, even with the gelled-back hair, white dress shirt and the gentle smile that was plastered all over. they all dressed the same, spoke the same, stood the same, but he somehow, his presence was the only one everyone seemed to focus on.
some could say it was the divine light that chose him, and no one would dare to oppose. how could they? not when the boy did everything to grace his image. an impeccable reputation, something not even the son of Christ himself got before meeting his end, being the towns sole preachers son almost faded in line of all the things jeong yunho was;
hard working student, star athlete, gracious volunteer, cheerful friend, sweet lover and darling son. sinful con-artist.
your father clapped alongside the people, cheering for the homily, he made sure to glance in your direction to ensure his own ego that you were being a good girl and paying attention.
he wanted you to fill those big shoes just as much as he wanted to slap your mother across the face every time she burned the food, leading her to fill another glass of wine and fall asleep alone on the couch, but still waking up earlier than everyone to pretend to be the very good wife that she was graced to be, offered just as young as you were now, by her own father, and the only thing she got in return was a sole golden cross to hang on her neck—a mark, a stamp that stated where and to whom she belonged—not your father, no.
but God.
"make sure to shake the preacher's hand" your father spat, oh-so-loyal to his master, shaking its tail as one of the sheep in the flock.
and you did. the mass had already ended when you approached the altar, under the watchful eye of the big wooden cross as you picked at your cuticles. in line, alongside your mother who held the weight of submission on her back, shrinking almost into a ball, you held your hands together waiting for your turn to thank the old man for doing his job.
"smile" your father told you.
and you did. borrowing one of the various features, doing your best impression of the good daughter, the most innocent sheep.
but the eyes of the predator followed around. to anyone, it would be just a caring gaze, but you knew what came within, the dark pair of eyes making your skin tingle and stomach churn.
you avoided it. you knew the consequences but you did anyway. you knew that later, when the blue darkened into the night and no lights would be seen within a mile radius, he would strip you out of wool, pierce your organs and drink from it as if it were the blood of Christ.
and when the birds went into hiding and dark hues shadowed the figures around, you found yourself shaking your leg frantically, looking between the clock on your nightstand and the closed window with lacy curtains that protected you so foolishly from the outside world.
it was close to time to leave when you heard the wine glass clinking downstairs. you put down the bible, shallow breaths forming inside your chest as you opened the window, jumping onto the dry grass that your father never cared to water. why would he do anything that didn't come with god's name attached to it?
approaching the same chapel you stood in this morning, you saw a faint light of an oil lamp coming from the backside, with it, came the following gaze that haunted you every other day, and you could smell the faint scent of soap in his clothes. not a wrinkle, not a stain, shirt as white as heaven, eyes as dark as sin.
he smiled as you came closer. not his usual one, but the one he reserved for those nightly escapades of yours—and your heart pounded from the knowledge that it was for you. you noticed that he was chomping on an apple, the sweet scent of the fruit adorning your nostrils as you stood idly in front of him. a small light reflected on the small piece of gold that hid on his chest.
with his hand up, he held the viciously red apple in front of your eyes. you didn't eat a lot at dinner because a fight between your parents broke out, and you were already sick from attending mass—ever since you started meeting the boy outside, sundays never felt the same—so the sight of a lustrous, full and juicy fruit did the trick on you.
you reached to grab it, but he retreated his offer.
"nuh-uh" he said. "open up."
and as a good girl, you did, allowing to be fed by the same fingers that found its way into your deepest parts. the same ones that dragged along your skin and touched wherever you claimed to be forbidden by the eyes of the lord. but how could it be so wrong? not when his touch felt that good.
yunho smiled at the sight of you biting into the fruit. you had no idea what he was thinking most of the time, but when he smiled like that, it was real.
"come" he said as he opened the back door, discarding the core on the grass. the evidence of it only being the sweet taste left on your lips, now to linger forevermore.
following him inside, you two reached the same familiar room where you grew up going in and out of. the wooden cabinets surrounding you, full of things that were meaningless without being held at the altar on sunday mornings.
the sacristy was somewhere you spent a lot of time organizing things as a volunteer, helping the altar boys and doing your part as part of the church, being the prideful gem of your community. but would they think so if they knew that your only reason to do it was so you could see more of the golden boy?
you could never lie when someone teased you about being too infatuated with the boy. your cheeks would heat up and heart would pound like crazy, to the point where you always worried if you were on the verge of dying or exploding. you first met him at the church, following him around as if he was your pastor, the one that would lead and save you.
then it was at school, but the meetings would always be brief, since he was always busy with school work or sports. you could never catch him alone, there was always crowds around him wherever he went, and you knew you fell into the category of being another one in his flock, but then he caught you staring that one sunday after mass, while he played the organ and no one was around for once.
"you always stare" he said, his voice velvety and seemingly to be something made by God's hands Himself "but you never say anything. are you scared of me?"
shaking your head, you looked down to your shoes, fingers picking at your cuticles.
you knew he was observant, too. most of the times you stared, he caught you, but he never said anything—that's how thoughtful he was, and that was one of the many things that made your young heart belong to him.
before you could even answer, your father called you from the sacristy, and you left, escaping from those warm, chocolate eyes.
but that was the day when things changed; the day he made you aware that he knew of your hobby of watching, because the next sunday, you caught him sneaking wine from one of those big wooden cabinets.
it was before mass, when you found yourself in the sacristy, opening the door without announcing, not expecting anyone to be there. but then you found the boy leaning by the entrance, drinking from the chalice as he watched you closely, his eyes never leaving you.
it shattered you on the inside. the sharp dress shirt he always wore to mass now held a deep stain by the collar, and everything about him seemed so messy. but what hurt the most was to see his eyes turn dark, something you never expected to see.
and it seemed to exhilarate him, the thought of you being the only one knowing. he knew you watched, and he wanted to give you a show.
on christmas night, when the mass would be held late, you stood behind to help clean up and organize the things from the short play held by the community. it was almost the next day and even the preacher had left, but you were folding the costumes and reassembling the scenery.
it wasn't rare for you to be alone in the church, at some point you even had the keys, but something felt eerie about that night. and then you heard a noise. it was indistinguishable at first, and you thought that someone could have returned and maybe got hurt, so you left the sacristy and went to the main hall.
now the sounds grew louder, and your heart pounded in its cage. it scared you, you thought someone might've gotten hurt, but you kept on going, trying to see where the noises were coming from.
stepping lightly, you heard another moan of what you thought was pain, coming from the confessional, the small door closed, but the sounds coming through.
"h-hello?" you called, no response.
approaching closer, your fingers held the handle and you took a deep breath, opening it slowly.
and you were met with dark eyes, the same ones that corrupted you before, the same ones who disguised themselves all this time, fooling everyone who dared to stare back. the same gaze you longed for, but now dreaded.
yunho leaned against the confessional wall, hair disheveled and the dress shirt half open. he panted, and the air inside felt heavy. moans sung by the heart shaped lips, the same ones you wondered if they were hand painted in heaven, now sounding so shameless, making sounds so sinful as he fisted his cock.
but the way your body reacted, your stomach felt like melting, and your face held too much heat. you didn't know you could sweat from other places, but your undergarments were now drenched. and that's when he grabbed your wrist, leading your hand to fall on top of his, enveloping his warm member into your palms.
you knew you were supposed to feel disgusted. you knew you were supposed to go back to your house, pray and go to sleep, but how could you when your hand was melting into his, and the noises he made when you moved your wrist were so forbidden it tasted good?
his pants became heavier and heavier, and the movements grew faster, then he spurted on your fingers and brought them to his own mouth.
seeing as you didn't move, he pulled your wrist, making your face fall closer to his, and then placed both of your fingers between your mouths, giving them a long lick, tasting his fluids.
"this is because of your staring" he claimed, placing yours and his digits into your mouth, making you jolt in shock. "do you know how hard it is to pretend not to see it?"
you did what you did best; you watched him. both of your fingers now resting on your tongue and the bitterness of his release mixing with your saliva.
"take it. prove it to me" he stared back. "prove that you want me."
it was over for you when you sucked on his skin involuntarily.
after that, he would ravish your body and sing prayers as his tongue tasted the sheen coat of sweat all over you. all week he portrayed the golden boy, the blessed child; but sundays, his mind became possessed by you.
now, back in present, he was holding the same golden chalice, signaling for you to grab the bottle of wine sitting next to you.
"will you open that for me?" he asked, voice coated in velvet that rubbed against your ears.
you took the cork off and he waited for you to serve the chalice, but before you could, he stopped himself, as if he had just gotten a new, better idea. he sat on the cushioned armchair behind the desk, pulling you closer by the hem of your thin camisole, face laying lower than yours, to the point you had to look down.
"pour me a drink, please?" you could've swore you'd seen the small, sheer glimpse of those same warm eyes for a moment. but it had to be just your mind playing tricks on you.
the boy sat under you with his fingertips grazing against your thighs as he opened his mouth, waiting for you to serve him. he knew that no matter what he asked of you, you would do it, no questions asked.
you started pouring the wine into his mouth, watching as the deep, dark liquid pooled onto his tongue as he closed his eyes, his adam's apple bobbing as he swallowed every last drop. mesmerized and lost in his godly features, you tilted the bottle a little more than you should, letting some of the wine drip on his skin, a small, faint line leaving its trace from the corner of his mouth to his neck.
he gave your thigh a small squeeze, and you stopped all motion as his eyes shot open, tongue licking his lower lip to not waste any alcohol.
"c'mon, darling, it's not time to make a mess yet" he laughed, the hearty laugh you grew up replaying inside your mind, giggling with your feet in the air. "clean that up now, will ya?"
you just nodded, turning on your feet to grab a napkin when he stopped you, pulling your legs closer in a quick move, making you fall onto straddling his strong thighs.
"you know what I meant by that" he watched every singular move your irises did closely, keeping track of your thoughts as if he could read them.
biting your lip, you looked at where the wine stained his cheek, and leaning forward, you gave it an experimental small lick. not daring to lean back, knowing that he wouldn't leave you alone with that following eye contact, you went lower, reaching for his neck, the tip of your tongue following the trace of a vein that stood under the fair skin.
the deep rumble of his groan trembled from your tongue to the rest of your body, accommodating itself inside your lower abdomen, a spot of wetness that began to stick to yunho's dress pants.
"I haven't even touched you properly, dear" he whispered into your ear as you kept on licking him clean "and you're already getting wet?"
your breath faltered and, ashamed, you hid your face into the crook of his neck. but he never ran from what he wanted, when he wanted—that's when you felt his long, cold fingers sliding inside your panties, the fingerprints embedded on your folds as he played around with the slick.
"y-yun—" you let out a whimper, your fingernails leaving half-crescent marks onto his shoulder.
"huh, what is it?" he asked, whispers into your ears and engraving his voice into your soul as his fingers pinched your clit, making a squeal leave your lips. "what is it that you want the most?"
you bit into his skin, chills running down your spine and cold sweat forming on your nape, could even be mistaken for a chilly breeze in the middle of that hot summer night.
when he slid a finger inside you, you could swear that your heart almost got stuck into your throat. placing your hand on top of your mouth, you tried to control the noises you were now making in union to the newly-found friction.
you found yourself nipping on your cuticles involuntarily, being too swayed by the waves of pleasure and emotional burst, but he caught it. he always did.
"oh no... you hurt yourself" he grabbed your hand with his free one, scanning it, watching as a small button of blood formed where your teeth bit into, it was a tic, you always picked at your fingers, and making it bleed wasn't news, but he seemed disappointed.
and then he put your fingers into his mouth, and sucked on the blood. eyes not leaving yours as you stared back, brows furrowed, a moan leaving the confines of your lips as you felt the texture of his tongue swirling around your digits.
with his free hand, he kept on moving, fingers in and out, pressing the sweet spot that was reserved for him, and only him. you weren't bounded by marriage, nor you thought you would be too soon, but under the severe gaze of god, you were his and he was yours.
the knot that formed on your stomach grew tighter and tighter while he sucked on your fingers and pressed inside you. the bulge in his pants causing friction when you rolled your hips desperately, using his body for your own selfish needs.
soon, the release came, washing over you as a cozy blanket of pure comfort, and you slumped onto his upper body, being held in arms as a cage, knowing that, even when he was the threat, he was the savior.
"you seem pretty found of this" he noted, and then you came to your senses to see that you were gripping to his golden cross.
leaning back, he unclasped the gold chain, the other hand that was nestled inside you left the warmth, the coldness of the slick on your panties meeting your lower lips and making you shiver slightly.
"I want you to have it" he said, placing the other hand on top of your lips, forcing them open, placing the cross on your tongue, and his wet fingers on top of it, pressing. drool began to form on the corner of your lips as you gazed at him with half lidded eyes. "god... how can you be so beautiful?"
in a quick frenzy, you suddenly found yourself on the top of the altar, legs spread and the weight of the golden cross now falling on your chest. yunho kissed your legs, leaving deep purple marks inside, places where only he could see them. he lost his dress shirt along the way, and his pants were unbuttoned, only a matter of time for him to lower his boxers to reveal the hard cock stuck in its confinements.
from where you laid, you could see the tall boy standing in front of you, and on top of him, as if to peek, was the huge wooden cross. the one last symbol you caught sight of as he entered you, the last view before falling into the depths of insanity.
his big hands sneaked under you, holding your body close to his as he moved in and out, the feeling of his cock rubbing against you making you crazier by the second. the feeling too good to be right, and the small voice inside your head that kept you pure, innocent, now was gone. you had no trace of light anymore, not when you were conjoined; not when your body melted into his.
his groans were prayers and you attended them with moans, the song of angels being made right in that moment, and nothing was holier than the way your heart thumped against his. keeping quiet wasn't an option anymore, and your whimpers soon became screams, the sound of his name echoing over and over between those walls.
you screamed, and drooled, and held onto dear life, his body being the last piece of salvation close to you, and the grasp so desperate you would think your soul was condemned. he kept on thrusting, his member hitting the same spot over and over, and the sound of your hips slapping grew louder.
you weren't you anymore. you never knew what came over your body when he fucked you, but it wasn't something holy. it trembled and shook and moved on its own, every trace of control abandoning your senses, the grasp of reality not being in sight.
"I'll make you mine" he repeated in your ear as a promise, singing it as his own psalm. "you'll be forever bound to me; to my body."
"I am yours" you babbled, not even sure if the words were clear, but he got the message as he kept on thrusting, fingers digging into your skin as his lips sucked on your neck.
and when his dark gaze met yours again, a groan run through his throat, the bundle of pleasure snapping inside you, just as his own did. the seed of his own filled your walls completely, and you smiled satisfied, mind far from your body as you were consumed by the primal urges.
now, with his golden cross wrapped around your neck and his claim slipping between your thighs, he marked you as his.
it was scary, how much you lost yourself when he touched you, scary how good it felt, scary how forbidden it was, scary how he made you feel like never before.
for as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him;
and you feared him the most.

I LOVE YOU SO MUCH PEACHHHHH you are my favorite writter ! i love you sm sm sm !!!
and.. if you feel generous… maybe a teaser of reader and sanemi in netherwood? :3
love youuuuu🩷🩷🩷🩷
Ohhh boy, let me see what I’ve got!
The door to the den blasted open, the wood nearly ripped from its hinges as Sanemi exploded through its entryway, axe brandished, its wielder ready to bury the blade deep into whatever it was that had caused your visceral panic.
His eyes were wide as he looked wildly around the den in search of his target, a cold violence coursing through his veins, urging him to kill, to eliminate any and all threats to you, to his mate —
Suspended as he was in that merciless fury, it took Sanemi a moment to make sense of the scene before him; for his cozy little den looked no different than how he’d left it that morning. Everything was in place, except for his fiancé, who, rather than being in bed as you were only an hour earlier, was now curled on the floor of the den, pressed tight against the furthest wall. Your face was obscured by your hands, though they did nothing stifle the shuddering, hysterical sobs choking out of you.
Sanemi’s hair stood on end as his heart thumped erratically in his chest, perfectly in time with yours. There was no distinguishing your panic from his; in that moment, your terror was a shared one.
But even though every instinct within him was screaming that he not let his guard down, that he seek out and destroy whatever caused you such distress, Sanemi did not hesitate to toss his axe aside and rush to where you cowered against the wall, having slid to the floor and curled in on yourself.
In an instant he was knelt before you, his arms wrapped protectively around you. His hands urgently smoothed over your hair and back, in equal parts to both assure himself you were uninjured and to soothe you.
You clung tightly to him, every inch of you trembling. your fear so overwhelmed the bond that Sanemi swore he could taste it, thick and cloying on his tongue.
Aware that he’d still not confirmed exactly what had caused your outburst of terror, Sanemi crowded you back against the wall, using his body to box you in and shield you from view. Keeping you cradled tight against him, your face buried in his chest as you sobbed, Sanemi glanced wildly around the cabin den, lips curled and teeth bared at any potential threat that might have lurked in the quiet, shadowed corners of their home. But there was no one there — no one except Genya, who stood petrified near the hearth, his eyes wide and his face gray.
Balled in hands was a small, crumpled pile of familiar red wool embellished with intricate threading.
Sanemi’s eyes darkened. Of course — perhaps it had been too soon to bring you the remnants of your beloved cloak. After all, so little of it remained and you’d yet to divulge the specifics of why, or how you were parted from it.
Specifics which even Sanemi did not know he could stomach learning.
“F-forgive me,” Genya’s expression was tortured and guilt-stricken. “I did not realize — I-I thought she would be happy —“
“Take it outside,” Sanemi ordered lowly, fingers brushing gently through your hair. “Go back to the fire and wait for me.”

Chubby Love | Various x Chubby!Reader
Summary: Sinners comes in all forms.
Warnings/notes: Chubby!reader - Mentions of insecurity - Reader has a body type - Reader sinner form is described!! - grammar mistakes -
Lucifer
He falls hard and does fall for real.
He was flying around, trying to clear up his mind when he noticed you. Your round cute form looked squishy from above, he took notice of your two reptail tails and how some other sinners seemed to be about to attack you.
In other times he would not care, but he decides to go down and put some orden.
Only to find out you are really badass and used your two tails to trow away these lowlifes.
Satan you almost hit him too.
And then he believes he has died. Because your suprised and blushed face greets him as you apologies to the king of hell himself for almost hitting him.
Him? He is in cloud nine. Please, he loves his S/O bigger than him, by all means hurt him, he is sure lust has made its away over him.
But no time for it!! He must be a gentlemen and says its alright then offers you help with your things.
And from there is all a love story. Lucifer is a gentle lover and a slow one. While he likes you he wants you to feel safe around him first.
His flirt is subtle yet noticianble so no one dares to try and get you.
When you two start to date this man is in cloud nine. He will hug you all the time, pressing his hands on your sides (asking if you feel ok with it) leaving kisses on your tummy and cheecks.
If he ever sees you feeling down then he is there to say the most cheesy yet loving things about you. Its not only your physical apparence but all of you. Your voice, personality, hobbies, likes...he could make up a song and play it for you.
Alastor / Cannibal tendencies
Listen. Alastor is cruel and actually likes big sinners because its more flesh. Its pure luck you meet him at the hotel where he cant hurt you.
But, heavens you have him salivating from time 0.
Your sheep like sinner form does not help. All that wool around you its making feel like a predator, eyes dark and theeth sharp.
Its only when he ends meeting you for real and having to pass time with you that his desire to eat you leaves.
His desire is different now. He cant put it in words but he cares about you. And only you.
His shadows are more open and will go after you to play with your hair and pull your wool. Hell they would even cuddle.
Alastor insists its them being them and will have a hard talk later.
Not that he dreams he could lay his head on your tummy and feel your soft wool. Nono, of course not!! Or how he wishes he could try just a bit of your flesh.
You would be part of him forever, right? Well he sees it that way.
Protective like hell. This man is know for being an ass to everybody so he wont let anyone be that to you.
No one will ever think on being that with you, everybody fears him.
Vox does a side comment about your body and his place gets attacked by a full form Alastor who does not kill him yet but does leave him pretty much hurt.
Vox
You probably work for him, having robot part did help you get the job. Plus you can turn yourself into a full ball and pretty much crush anyone and also go fast to pass messages that cant be trusted online under the risk of hackers.
Vox trust you so much and honestly never looked too much into how more or less chubby you are
You do your work well, amazing and he trusts you so much.
He would probably notice he is falling for you because of how you seem to appear in his records over and over.
Its not shy to ask you out and is rather direct about how he wants a serious relationship with you.
Stolas / Not married /
Imagine a big colorfull bird, with six eyes and two pair of wings.
Thats you.
Stolas falls hard. He meets you during a gala and does a double take when he sees you pass.
Its going towards you in seconds. And starts talking and falling over his words. Its only when you laught that he seems to relax.
Then he hears whispering from Stella and her friends (god he is so glad he was able to get out of that compromise). Turns to you to see you looking sad but trying to play it cool.
Decides to take you to a place with less peopel and asks his trustful servants to get him the best alcohol.
You two end talking and just talking, you open up about sometimes feeling bad because of what other says and how society expects you to be a centrain way.
He also opens up about his own insecurities and so you two bond.
You two start as friends but soon start dating. Its a fluff and soft relationstip. Stolas loves to show you his magic and also gets you the best clothes in the nine circles.
He is a cuddle monster and will pass all morning hugging you.
Getting his garden bigger and bigger its your favorite activity, you two can relax and be yourselfs.
Charlie x Reader x Vaggie / Platonic
Charlie meets you in the streets after a bad date. You have been crying a lot and its notable.
She asks you if you need help and offers you to stay ar the hotel with her and the rest.
Charlie knows you stand out, its not only your shape but also how colorfull for a sinner you are, while you are shy and quiet.
Vaggie also opens her arms to you. Maybe its her angel self looking out for you, but she just loves how you are.
Its normal to see you with Charlie or with her both inside and outside the hotel.
Husk
Dear satan Husk is lovesick the moment you walk inside the hotel.
Blames it to your mouse atributes and his own more like sinner form then accepts he is most likely bad heads for you.
Dating you its easy. He is actually an easy partner. Loves to cuddle and wrap his wings around you whenever he can. Whispers the most sweet thins so only you can hear. And when he can, he likes to tangle his tail with yours.
Angel Dust
Oh him....he sees you and says FUCK out loud.
Because DAM you do rock.
Maybe you dont think it yourself, but Angel tells you how sexy you are and dies inside seeing your blush.
Dies more if you flirt back.
Loves to use all his arms to hug you and pull you for kisses. When you two are in the open one of his hands will be on you.

Bound - Miguel O’Hara x Reader
Summary: The crimson phantom steals you to keep for himself… dark!miguel x reader fic. very steamy as always <3
TW: mentions of kidnapping, abuse, and other dark subjects.
two
The scream, it was an awful and otherworldly sound. A thing meant to only exist in the skin glistening terrors that greet you at nightfall. Yet you were very much awake.
Mother…
Your flame dances by the wind of your hasty departure, it had been serving you well as a gold star lighting the ridiculous letter from lord Wickham of Newbury, a town away. You’d met him once, and a handsome thing he was, undeniably. Yet he was also most successfully a bore. A great one at that.
Perhaps you’re just picky with your men. His sapphire eyes and blonde locks tied back by onyx colored ribbons just weren’t enough to catch your steady eye— much to mama’s dismay. He was far from a poor man, quite the opposite. Yet you swore this to yourself, you wouldn’t marry for anything other than true love. The purest, truest love and adoration like that of storybooks. Like that of Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy or Mr. Rochester and Jane Eyre.
So you wouldn’t marry at all, you’d decided. For that kind of longing was far too grand for this simple world with its simple people. This you knew well.
The ink stained paper was waxed and perfected. No stroke faltered or bled from its place. An invite to a ball, as if you had anything other than wool tresses and scratchy cloth to don. You’d prepared to have a laughing fit in your tiny cot at the thought of it all, of a man’s stupidity and their clueless nature but— the scream.
You took the steps two at a time, ignoring their complaints by noisy creaks. Shadows of your siblings circling mama in panic greeted you round the corner. All but the moon and her stars lit the wooden home— besides a single wick candle that dripped on to mama’s wrinkled palm.
She’s a mess of sobs and panic when you reach her, immediately snatching the candle from her palm and placing it in its rightful russet holder. You turn your eyes to your sister, nearly the eldest had you not beat her by a month.
“What’s happened?”
The poor thing, her eyes are wide as the moon herself. Perfect, round circles they are— adorned with cyan and onyx to craft the most delightful gaze. Men throw themselves at her, and for good reason.
“S-she claims to have seen a phantom…”
“I did see a phantom you foolish girl! Right there in the window, clear as morning hour. Can’t you see how my nerves have betrayed me you rodents!? I am being truthful!” She sobs again, face scrunched up into an unpleasant expression.
You swallow, knowing full well what this means. Your eyes shift to little Thomas, adorned in a frayed night shirt and a flimsy cap. His bright blue eyes are worrisome, looking upon you for aid. He’s only six.
You place a cool hand upon his reddened cheek before ordering your sister to help him find slumber in his cot.
You know familiarly what this is and how insignificant it is for him to see it. For you’ve dealt with it in all your time here and it has done nothing more than cause you worry and heartache.
Your palms halt themselves, then find courage in the moment to cautiously rest upon the shoulders of a madwoman.
“Mama, have you taken your medication this evening?” It’s a weak, gentle whisper.
First, you believe yourself to be in the clear. She snaps her head up in panic, and the itch of realization that bites at her gaze relaxes your shoulders for a quick moment; but then, she squints. Before you can straighten your back or step apart from her, she slams her hand hard against your flushed cheek— turning it the color of the mysterious bloom you’d seen in the bend.
Your siblings gasp, falling quiet. Particularly your brother is dismayed, for he averts his eyes and clenches an angry fist. You stumble backward, fingertips grazing the heat of the slap with a certain shakiness. It is your nerves that have fallen sickly now.
It is far from the first time, and it most certainly won’t be the last. You breathe out your frustrations and pain through petal-pink lips— allowing the night itself to have them. Reminding yourself that she is unwell in mindful matters.
She is overtaken with sobs again, murmurs of the phantom and a disappearing flower being planted throughout her words. You swipe away at the warm water rolling singular down your cheek before straightening your back and snatching at the candlestick. You’ll remain strong as the eldest should for your siblings, and for your mother.
“I’ll go search for the phantom, mama. You may watch me from the window if you’d like.”
Worry embroiders itself in her wrinkles, and she reaches a weak hand out for you. You ignore it before making your way past your siblings and out into the icy night.
The creak of the window follows not long after, and your candlestick flame dances wildly with the wind, as though they are in a quarrel. As though they are cross.
You squint, midnight surrounding you. Blackness, nothingness.
Yet even so, you make a show of searching the grassy plain for this phantom she speaks of. You don’t seem to find him.
“Oh sweet girl, have you found the creature yet!?”
Your mother cries. You ignore it, inhaling a shaky breath as the wind lashes its anger upon your skin. The grass is dampened and soft, you’ll have to find new socks for they are browned now by dirt.
A bite of breeze steals the flame from you, and your siblings gasp as your glowing features are taken by the night.
“Be calm! It is just the wind! It is creating faces in midnight, mama. That is all!”
A softer sob now, one of realization and perhaps shame. It renders you content, you can rest now. For the hunger of her paranoia and fantasies are fulfilled.
“Follow the sound of my voice!” Your youngest sister Charlotte calls. It is a faint thing beyond the wind. A faint call.
It is as if onyx curtains have been veiled around your eyes. You search the night for a glisten of light and yet there is none.
Your sister calls again, and you stumble over a vine as you walk further toward her humming.
Your eyes shift to the earth’s core to find that odd blossom from earlier on. A strong color of red and blue— and it seems as though it has the power to shine brightly even at the devil’s hour.
You gape at it, grazing your fingertips cautiously against the petals. You must pluck it and use it to lead your way. Yet soon as your touch greets it, it disappears into darkness— into the night.
You gasp, falling onto your bum at its little trick.
It is you know that has fallen ill with ailments of the mind, it seems. The thought frightens you, enough so that the darkness seems to create more faces now. Enough so that you feel far from alone in the dead of nightfall.
Panic constricts you.
“Call for me again, Charlotte!”
A soft hum, but it sounds so far away now. You take a steeling breath and focus, taking only a selfish moment to hesitate before chasing after the sound. Closer and closer, your arched feet press against soft soil as you near the moonlit window.
Your brother holds a match flame so to find you, and you breathe in relief once you near it. Your nightgown is now stained with mud and the earth, you’ll have to sew another one.
The greeting of panicked eyes settle to relief once you near the window— and yet it is not so far after that they widen to saucers again. Another scream from your mother, then from small Charlotte with glossy eyes.
You gasp, turning against the hold of the night to find two crimson orbs staring right through you.
The phantom.
You know those orbs well.
The mysterious townsman who snatched you from immediate death.
Your body finds itself still, but your mind cannot be. It overtakes you, stumbling you backward till your eldest sister’s palm grazes the muddied gown you wear through the window. Reaching for you through the cries.
She cannot snatch you so soon- for the phantom beats her to it.
The sky itself cracks open in a flash of all the colors your mind can create, and a shadowed creature you’re confined to by the night itself snatches you by waist into the painful sight. It is far too bright for gentle eyes.
The sounds of fading screams and panic pools at the bottom of your pounding chest as you’re rushed through a space only meant to make your head ache. You’re certain you’re stuck in a terror now; but your mind is far too weak to bare it. So? You faint.
In the arms of mother’s phantom and his crimson gaze…

The Sussur Bloom’s glow pours like a phosphorescent waterfall over the delicate blue petals. You can taste the honey-sweet aroma of the flower suspended in the air.
You observe it acutely, trying to figure out where the boundary of its effect terminates.
Aldous grins deplorably, “You would not believe how much this cost to procure.”
Does he think that will impress me?
Drawing in a deep breath, you calm your rampaging heart and swallow the terror balled in your throat.
Adorning your face with an overtly sweet, innocent smile, you summon every snippet of charisma you possess, “A beautiful flower indeed.”
“Not half as beautiful as my current company,” Aldous winks.
Ew.
“Where is your father?” your eyes flash around, assessing the surroundings for advantages you may be able to exploit, “I believe he should join us.”
“Father is away on business. He will not be participating in this discussion tonight.”
Convenient.
“Perhaps we should postpone this little discourse until your father returns.”
Aldous ignores you, “Did you know that the Sussur Bloom nullifies all magic in its vicinity? A useful item against an ornery sorceress.”
“Aldous…”
“Ah, ah, ah,” he sneers, wagging his finger at you, “You will give me the respect I am due.”
HA! A ludicrous notion.
You clench your teeth so hard that the nerves sing, “Saer, I’d like to-”
“Where is the man who was with you?” Aldous cuts you off, “The Elf.”
The door lock clicks, and you nearly wince, but you keep your illusion of poise intact. A grin slinks across Aldous’s lips as he stalks toward you.
“There was no other Elf. You were roaring drunk.”
He chuckles sinisterly, “You may have been able to pull the wool over my father's eyes, but I am not so easily fooled.”
The distance between you and Aldous recedes as he continues his menacing approach. You take wary steps backward, striving to retain as much space as possible.
The poorly lit gloom only deepens as you’re pressured further to the rear of the shop.
Glancing at the door behind Aldous, you concentrate on the stained-glass window. Daylight is fading fast. You silently rejoice and then scold yourself harshly for it.
I shouldn’t be counting on Astarion to save me.
You soak your voice in your most persuasive, candied inflection, “We can sort this little mishap out. There’s no need to involve anyone else.”
“Who is he?!” Aldous rasps.
Anger. A weakness I can exploit.
“No one.”
“Don’t play dull, Sorceress. I will pry it out of you one way or another.”
“I don’t know who you’re talking about,” you smirk patronizingly, “It seems you’re seeing ghosts. Perhaps a visit to a healer is in order?”
Aldous growls threateningly at your taunting. His teeth scour together harshly, sending shivers rushing up your spine, making your stomach reel and pitch.
“He means much to you,” he sneers, “You protect him by putting yourself in harm’s way,” Aldous’s finger taps his chin, “I can’t help but wonder why he would let you come alone. Perhaps you don’t mean as much to him as he does to you.”
“Perhaps,” you shrug, “I don’t."
“You shouldn’t settle for that, Sorceress.”
This little shit dares scold me?
“As if I care what you think.”
“You deserve someone like me,” his hand comes to his puffed-up chest arrogantly, “prestigiously bred of noble blood, wealthy, handsome, and influential. Someone who can provide you with a life of luxury.”
“Gods, you sicken me.”
Aldous places the Sussur Bloom on a table behind him, but close enough that you are within the negating influence.
His face burns red, brows pinched in a nightmarish scowl, “You’re going to have a very miserable night then.”
“If you fucking touch me, I will kill you.”
Not a threat, a fucking promise.
“You’re all bark and no bite without your magic. I will take my apology in whatever form I choose.”
Your stomach warps nauseatingly, and you swallow the bile that soars into your throat.
Grabbing the hidden dagger in your boot, you swipe at Aldous frantically, grazing a weeping cut across his pudgy stomach.
Aldous lunges at you with a howl, grabbing your arm and twisting it, slamming it hard against the corner of a towering bookcase. The dagger rattles to the floor, and Aldous kicks it away swiftly.
“You miserable swine!” he barks, eyes savage and enraged.
Aldous pins you to the bookcase with a bruising grip. His chest puts so much pressure on yours that the air you inhale whines when drawn into your constricted lungs.
Gods, please, just a little longer.
Aldous wrenches at the high collar of your robe, and a snarling shriek tears from your throat. His forehead slams into your face, cutting off your scream.
Pain causes a disorienting parade of light to erupt behind your eyes, and your lip swells and aches furiously. The sharp, ferrous tang of blood coats your tongue.
You spit, and red-tinged droplets splatter across Aldous’s face, “I should have killed you.”
“My, my, what's this on your neck?” he snickers while eyeing the bite mark marring your flesh, “If you like to be bitten, all you had to do was ask nicely. I would have happily obliged.”
Your stomach churns with the insinuation. You yearn to see the little worm beg and plead for you to spare his life."
Pale hands rip Aldous backward.
Astarion’s voice resounds in the dark, “I hear you like to bite, but do you like to be bitten?”
Aldous shrieks as sharp fangs sink into the supple flesh of his neck. You stand, a wicked smile on your face, watching the life slowly drain from Aldous’s eyes.
You could ask Astarion to stop. You could spare the feeble runt his life. You could, but you don’t.
I was never a hero.
Astarion releases him when his eyes are dull and listless, and Aldous’s body crumbles to the floor.
The door creaks unexpectedly, making you jump, and you grasp at the intrinsic magic usually ever-present, only to find a yawning void.
Right. Where is that godsdamned flower?
Gale jogs in, huffing harshly out of breath. Eyeing the Sussur Bloom sitting innocently on the table, you throw it down and grind it to nothing but a blue paste smeared across the floor with your boot.
Astarion and Gale study you with apprehension as if worried you may buckle and break apart. You cross your arms and frown at them.
How soft do they think I am?
“I don’t need mollycoddling like a spoon-fed babe,” you tut, clearly vexed, “What are we going to do about him?”
Gale’s fingers his chin, “This will certainly complicate things.”
“I will handle this,” Astarion concludes.
“No,” you stammer, “I can help.”
Astarion shakes his head, “You and Gale go for a lovely, very long, relaxing night stroll. Greet, chat, mingle with everyone you see, stop at a pub and drink; I care not, just make sure you are seen far from here.”
Gale nods, “We must set the lanceboard in our favour, so to speak. Astarion can handle this. This is hardly the first body he’s had to make disappear.”
Astarion smirks, “Far from it.”
“I could simply set this whole place ablaze,” you muse.
An excuse, more than anything, to see this place eradicated from existence.
Gale pales, “Burn all these books?”
Astarion snickers and sighs dramatically, “Truly, darling, did you not consider the books?!”
You roll your eyes, “They would make for fine kindling.”
Gale mumbles, mouth agape, “How unseemly.”
Astarion giggles at the ill-humoured scowl darkening Gale’s face before looking at you, “Still that twitchy palm of yours. Nothing screams guilty like a raging, fiery inferno.”
“I suppose you are the expert in these matters, Astarion.”
“Oh,” he grins, “Please do continue showering me with your praises.”
“Good Gods,” Gale grumbles, “We should not linger, my friend.”
“Fine,” you throw your hands up, exasperated, “I will spare the damn books.”
Astarion snaps his fingers, “Gale, the scroll, if you please.”
The scroll?
You cock your brow at him. Astarion unrolls the scroll, recites the incantation, and it vanishes.
The swell and tender ache in your lower lip dissipates. Astarion pulls a handkerchief out and wipes the leftover drops of blood from your chin that had dribbled down from the split in your lip.
“Good as new,” he purrs, but there is concern laden in his eyes.
“Your incantations need work,” you tease to relieve Astarion’s anxiety.
He grins but clicks his tongue in disapproval, “As do your manners, it seems.”
Gale weaves you through small, dim alleys and paths while avoiding the populace until you’re far from the shop.
Once you can return to the main thoroughfare, Gale skillfully greets passersby, striking up mundane conversations to ensure you’re noticed and seen.
Neither Gale nor you speak of what happened until you’re safely back in the manor.
“Fuck,” your fingers wrack through your hair, “I’m so sorry, Gale.”
“You need not be,” Gale squeezes your shoulder, “I’m just glad you’re alright.”
“We need a plan.”
Run. Run. Run. Take Astarion and run - your mind chants.
Hells. My inclination toward avoidance has gotten out of hand.
Gale pats your arm, “What have we always done?”
“Outflank. Outsmart,” you echo his words.
“Spot on,” he grins, “We can delve further into the particulars come morning.”
“You’re right,” you take a calming breath, “I think that’s about enough excitement for today.”
“You have a strange notion of excitement, my friend,” Gale chuckles, “Now if you will excuse me, I am in dire need of a bath. Hells. That vampiric bastard can move swiftly. Perhaps I have gotten indolent in retirement.”
After bathing and changing, you sit on your bed and stare at the unfilled space beside you. Just this morning, you had awoken in Astarion’s room, and your eyes overindulged on the sight of him still peacefully at rest.
Can I go back to resting and waking up alone again? Moreover, do I want to?
No.
Your heart whimpers in your chest at the concept, sinking into your stomach with a quiver. The battle between your fearfulness and what you want continues to war on. Everything you crave is situated on the other side of your doubt.
Why do you keep yourself seated in the dark abyss you retreated to when he left when the light is right in front of you, and all you have to do is walk into it?
I’m still running.
Coward.
Reprimanding yourself for being so spineless, you leave the emptiness of your bed behind and make yourself some tea. Sinking into the chair on the terrace, your legs curl up under you.
The waves flourish and flaunt in the inlet, making the boats dance in concert and the tangy brine of the sea wafts in the air. Coasting clouds cause the pastel glow of the new moon to wax and wane.
The fluttering beat of wings alerts you to Tara’s approach before you see her soar and land on the terrace with a grace only she and Astarion could muster.
The pitter-patter of her little paws on the wood boards makes you smile as she draws near.
Tara stretches her wings before settling, “Would you like some company while you await the vampire’s return?”
“Tara, do you know the vampire’s name?”
“Of course,” she scowls, “You’ve been calling out to him in your sleep for months.”
Oh…
Right.
“Why do you keep calling him vampire then?”
“He calls me cat or cat with wings, does he not?” she huffs exasperatedly, “It does not vex him as I hoped, though.”
You giggle at her, “You must try much harder if you wish to aggravate him.”
She nods curly as if she’s taken that into advisement, “I have not seen you out here recently. What is troubling you this night?”
Patting your lap, you invite her up, “It’s hard to find enough peace to rest when your heart is at war with your mind.”
Tara jumps up and lays down with a soft purr, “Have you always been so meek?”
Meek? Not a word I would have ever described myself with.
“No,” you stare off into the distance blankly.
Her round eyes reflect what little light the moon provides, “You have been lonely here, yes?”
How does she know these things?
The unmistakable glint of unshed tears brims in your eyes, “Is there a cure for loneliness?”
She cocks her head, confused, “You do not seem lonely when he is near.”
“I-” your brows pinch together, she’s right again, you think, “I suppose I’m not.”
“Then he is the cure you seek.” Tara concludes, “May I speak bluntly?”
She’s never asked before. This should be good.
“Please do.”
“You are being an idiot,” she says factually.
You laugh, almost spewing your tea at Tara’s curtness, “I’m sorry. Care to elaborate?”
“The longer you keep yourself tethered to this unhappiness, the longer you will live a life not meant for you.”
I hate how right she is.
Your fingers tap the mug fretfully as tears tiptoe out of the corners of your eyes, “What if I can’t get over my fear, Tara?”
Tara puts her paws on your chest, levelling her green eyes with yours with a stern yet empathetic glower, “Then you must do it afraid, Sorceress.”
She makes it sound so simple.
But it is really that simple, isn't it?
You stifle back a sniffle and scratch behind her ear, “Stop being so smart and wise.”
“Perhaps when you stop being an idiot.”
Another strangled laugh escapes your throat as you stroke her silky fur, making her purr loudly. Resting your head on the high-backed chair, your eyes flutter shut.
“You must do it afraid.”
I will.
I just need a little more time.
Tara leaps off your lap, and your eyes open sleepily to see Astarion standing before you. Dirt streaks the pale skin of his face and hands, and trails, where sweat rolled down his temples and forehead, are evident.
“Wake up, sweetheart.”
You scan the sky as the haze clouding your vision disperses slowly. It must be only hours from dawn.
Your nose crinkles, “You smell like dirt.”
“I thought I would try something new; groundskeeper with a hint of grave robber,” his brow cocks seductively, “Is it working for you?”
You giggle, “Absolutely not.”
“Well,” he pouts with a dramatic sigh, “don’t be afraid to tell me what you really think.”
“I think you really need a bath.”
“I do love it when you sass me,” he tuts, “Naughty thing. What are you doing resting out there? You’re shivering fiercely.”
“I was talking to Tara,” your teeth chatter together, “I must have drifted off.”
He kisses your forehead, “Come on. Let’s get you warmed up inside,” Walking through the kitchen, Astarion turns to you, “Are you gracing my bed with your delicious self again tonight, friend?”
Hells. I was heading to his room without even thinking about it.
“Do you want me to?”
“It’s up to you,” Astarion shrugs as if it doesn’t matter, but there’s a hint of hope reflected in the scarlet of his irises.
Gods, tell me we belong together. Please.
“Tell me what you want, Astarion.”
“You, my love. Always and forevermore, you,” he purrs, taking your hand, “My bed it is.”
Astarion’s room is a chasm of blackness when you enter. With a flick of your wrist, you light the candles instantly with a smug smile.
He chuckles, “I forgot how handy you are to have around.”
“Truly indispensable,” you chime back in jest.
“Better set that ablaze as well,” Astarion points to the fireplace, “You get grouchy when you’re cold.”
You gasp, hand coming to your mouth theatrically, “I’m never grouchy!”
“Oh, don’t fret, my dear,” he glowers at you playfully, “You’re adorable when you're grouchy.”
“Go bathe, you smell.”
He giggles with a shallow bow, “As the lady wishes.”
You sit on the edge of Astarion’s bed, and a smile trails across your lips. These moments with him feel so familiar, so right, and they quiet the clashing present inside you.
Why are you making things so complicated for yourself? It could be as simple as telling him you want to be with him, so why don’t you?
He would finally stop calling me “friend,” at least.
Astarion returns with only a towel hanging loosely around his waist. He nudges your legs apart with his knee and leans in close. His hands slip up the bed by your sides, forcing you to lean back until you’re propped up on your forearms. Your heart parades in your chest, seemingly skipping beats the closer he leans into you.
“Well, you’re not wrinkling your cute little nose at me anymore,” Astarion taps the tip of your nose softly, “A good sign.”
Leaning in close, you kiss his shoulder while making a dramatic show of inhaling deeply, “You stink… less.”
He giggles and gives you a gentle shove, “Less?! Darling, I’m hurt,” he imitates shock with a sulky flair, “I smell excellent.”
Hells, does he ever.
“How do you know?”
Astarion taps your chest over your heart in rhythm with the quickened pace with a sly, boyishly handsome smile, “Your body tells me everything I need to know.”
“Pleased with yourself, are you?”
“Indeed,” he coos, “Now, to bed with you, sleepy love.”
Yes, rest. Gods, I’m tired.
Astarion’s thumb sweeps lazily back and forth over your arm, and you lay your head on his chest. Your eyes feel heavy and sag closed.
Lifting your hand, you draw all the flames from the candles into an orb floating above your palm, extinguishing them. The flaming sphere winks out, bathing the room in darkness except for the glow from the ebbing embers in the fireplace.
Astarion kisses your forehead, “Braggart.”
You giggle, but your voice sounds distant to your ears as the current of your trance pulls you under. Astarion starts to hum while running his fingers through your hair.
“I love you,” you say in a whispering sigh.
Wait… did I say that out loud?
Astarion’s crooning hum cuts off, and his fingers come to your chin, guiding your face up.
The silky skin of his lips caresses yours tenderly, “I love you too. Rest, my only one.”
Gale rubs his eyes, “Where was Mr. Blackwell?”
“Aldous said he was away on business,” your leg bounces nervously, “He didn’t elaborate further.”
Astarion’s hand slips over your thigh under the table, stilling the ferocity of its jostling.
“We have some time then,” Gale concludes, “I have business in the city today. I could make some inquiries.”
“Bloody Hells, you are terrible at this,” Astarion groans, clicking his tongue and rolling his eyes, “Gale, if you go making odd inquiries, you’ll implicate yourself.”
Gale scoffs, “Oh, my deepest apologies if I am not proficient in the matters of covering up a murder.”
“Apology accepted,” Astarion drawls, “We could always kill Mr. Blackwell. What’s one more murder?”
“Mr. Blackwell has a wife,” Gale scowls, “Aldous’s mother.”
“You say that as if it’s a problem, Gale,” Astarion shrugs, “The wife as well then.”
Gale’s skin goes a deathly white as his mouth drops open, eyes round, “You cannot seriously be suggesting we murder an entire family!”
You cut them both off, “Astarion is trying to get under your skin, Gale. Don’t let him.”
“You’re no fun,” Astarion’s lips purse into a pout, “I had the wizard going.”
Gale’s body unknots with relief, “Very funny, my sharp-toothed friend.”
You rub your temples to stifle the headache brewing, “How well connected is Mr. Blackwell, Gale?”
Gale’s fingers tap his chin, “Connected would be an understatement. The man is friends with every high-ranking official in the city.”
Certainly a complication.
Astarion’s fingers drum on the table, “Could we not convince him that his son ran off with some trollop?”
“I could try,” you nod, “but Mr. Blackwell is already suspicious of me. He will not make an easy target.”
“You do have a very delicious silver tongue,” Astarion’s hand slips up your thigh and between your legs, “I have no doubt you could persuade him.”
You sit stiffly, trying not to expose the crudeness happening below the wood tabletop as Astarion’s fingers sweep over your crotch.
“I could try,” you choke out as you clench involuntarily at the sensation, “but it’s not foolproof.”
Astarion scoffs, “If you want foolproof, my dear, we better circle back to the murder option.”
“Do you not feel any remorse for what you’ve done!” Gale explodes out of his chair, irritation creasing his forehead.
Astarion stands with bared teeth, leaning threateningly close to Gale’s face, “I feel only pristine satisfaction. You have NO idea what he was about to do to her, Gale.”
“Stop it! Both of you,” you roar, slamming your hands on the table to get their attention, “I could have stopped Astarion, and I didn’t. If you must hold someone responsible for this, the blame is mine, Gale.”
“Enough!” Astarion’s crimson eyes send shivers down your spine, “You are not accountable for my actions!”
This is about more than just this event.
“Gale,” you sigh with a forced smile, “Go make your inquiries, but be discreet.”
Gale bows shallowly and excuses himself, glancing between you and Astarion. There is a grim tension in the air.
Astarion’s finger taps rhythmically on the table, a telltale sign he’s upset with you.
“Spit it out, Astarion. What is really troubling you because it isn’t this.”
Astarion’s forehead creases as his brows pull down low, and he shouts, “You must stop holding yourself at fault for what I’ve done!”
“Aren’t I?” you scream back at him, coming to your feet abruptly, “The night you left, I made you uncomfortable, and what happened? You fucking ran from me, from our life, from us!”
He left. Gods, he left, and it nearly killed me.
“It-” Astarion’s eyes dart around, “It wasn’t because of something you did.”
“My fault or not, I paid dearly for it.”
You ran and took my heart with you.
You rush to your room, locking the door. It’s too much. It’s all too much at once, and you cannot process it quickly enough.
It was my fault Astarion left in the first place, wasn’t it?
I pushed him too hard, didn’t I?
Gods, you don’t know. You’ve been punishing yourself for all of your missteps since he disappeared, and you can’t relinquish your guilt no matter how hard you try.
Why will I not allow myself to let this go?
Astarion’s soft knock resonates on the door, and your head plummets into your hands.
You cannot do this right now, and your voice rumbles, “Go away, Astarion.”
Astarion plunks down on the floor outside your door, “I will wait until you are ready to speak to me.”
He used to do this when you lived with him, giving you space but ultimately staying close by.
Wrenching the door open, you seethe, “Go. Away.”
Astarion rights himself and pushes into your room as if nothing is amiss. Despite your fiery temper, Astarion was never easily goaded into a fight with you.
“Astarion,” you leer at him in a warning.
“You’re angry with me,” he retorts, “I’m well aware and well acquainted with your ire.”
“Then you know you should be leaving me alone,” you admonish him.
“You never used to retreat from arguments with me.”
Fuck. He’s right. I ran.
Again.
You groan, slamming your door and drop to the floor. The headache you had felt starting is now throbbing in your temples like a battering ram. Pressing your eyes shut, you kneed at your head with your fingers.
Astarion sinks to the ground opposite you, and his hand settles on your forehead, “Darling, are you alright?”
The chill of his skin eases some of your discomfort, and you push into his touch with a relieved sigh, “Just a headache.”
“You did not get much rest last night,” his fingers massage your temples, “I’m sorry. I should not have shouted at you.”
“I don’t want to talk about this right now.”
“You do not have to talk, but you will listen, and listen closely,” Astarion tilts your head up, and you open your eyes to meet his, “You must stop blaming yourself for what I’ve done. The guilt is not yours to endure.”
“But…” you swallow the lump in your throat, wrench your eyes down and fidget with your fingers, “But I made you uncomfortable the night you left.”
“My leaving was not due to anything you did or did not do. I’m-” he sits back, running his fingers through his hair, tousling it, “I’m a coward,” he shrugs, “I’ve always been a coward.”
“You have never been a coward, Astarion,” you shake your head, “What’s changed? What will stop you from leaving again?”
“I am no longer afraid,” his fingers sweep across your cheek before rubbing your temples again, “Well, perhaps that’s not entirely true. I am afraid of losing you again.”
How did he get over his fear?
“Astarion,” you sigh as his fingers skillfully knead the throbbing ache, “you could never lose me.”
“I did,” the corners of Astarion’s mouth creep downward mournfully, “did I not, friend?”
This word haunts me.
“May I ask you something?”
You nod, “Anything.”
“Ever since I returned, you have been exceedingly gentle with me, far beyond customary, even for you. Why?”
“You mean,” your voice trembles slightly, “when it comes to being intimate with you?”
“Yes.”
Fuck, I don’t want to tell him this, but I must stop trying to escape from the truth.
“I-” you inhale a long, slow breath to calm your pounding heart, “You left me the night I made you uncomfortable. I suppose,” you pause, trying to gather yourself, “I suppose I have been worried that if I make that same mistake, I will scare you away again.”
Astarion takes your hands, “I promise you do not have to be afraid. I am here to stay. You need not be so gentle with me.”
Don’t I though?
“Can I trust you to tell me when it’s too much?”
“I will always tell you,” he says conclusively, “Could we please get off this floor now, beautiful?”
Right…
“Sorry. Where would you like to sit?”
“The bed,” he says, helping you to your feet, “Does your head still hurt?”
“Yes,” you groan.
Your brain is bashing against your skull, trying to escape your head.
“Sit. I will rub it for you like I used to.”
Sitting on the bed, Astarion pulls you between his legs, your back against his chest, and you let yourself sink into him. His fingers work the achy spots perfectly.
“What happened yesterday,” Astarion says in a low timbre, “with the boy. Are you alright?”
Am I?
“It’s not the first time I’ve been attacked.”
“Yes,” Astarion looks around anxiously, “but there is a difference between being attacked and being,” he pauses, searching for a way to put it delicately.
“I know what you’re getting at,” you sigh, “I’ve lived a hard life, Astarion. This is just another one of those things that’s better forgotten."
“I understand,” Astarion kisses the top of your head, “But if you cannot forget, I am here if you need me.”
I always need you.
“Thank you.”
“You will tell me more about your life someday, yes?” Astarion’s voice is hopeful, “I wish to know everything.”
My past - another thing I run from.
“Will you tell me more about yours?”
“For you, my love, I am an open book,” Astarion murmurs, “Ask, and I will tell you to the best of my ability, but there are things I cannot recall.”
“Like your face?”
He smiles sadly, “Yes, like my face.”
You and Gale have been practicing magic together, and you asked him to teach you Mirror Image. The incantation was straightforward to learn, but Illusionary magic is not your realm of expertise and mastering the hand movements was tricky.
Mirror Image was meant to be used on yourself, but you and Gale often try to find new ways to use or cast various spells.
After many trials and failures, you’ve figured out how to use Mirror Image to mirror someone other than the caster.
Should I?
“Do you-” you trail off, wondering if this is a good idea, “I could try something - if you want. If I can pull it off, you will be able to see yourself.”
“What?” Astarion jolts off the bed, eyes round with astonishment, “How?”
You turn to look at him, “Do you remember that night in camp when Gale was inspecting a magical copy of himself?”
His red eyes shift around, crazed, and you wonder if you’ve made a mistake and stepped too far.
“Of course,” he groans, “How could I forget his incessant preening?”
Astarion looks anxious, and unease blooms in your stomach, “Are you okay? Maybe I shouldn’t have said anything.”
“Please,” he pleads, his scarlet eyes wide and wild, “If you can, would you please?”
“This may feel odd at first,” you warn, “like countless fingers running over your skin. Don’t be alarmed.”
I can do this. I will do this.
Grasping the Weave, you wrap it around you and Astarion with the finesse of an archmage. Reciting the incantation is as easy as breathing, and it rolls off your tongue poetically.
The hand movements are far more complicated, but you’ve practiced this, and your fingers dance the perfectly choreographed pattern.
Astarion’s eyes stay locked on you.
You pull the threads, and the Weave unravels, only for you to stitch it back together in the image of Astarion.
“It’s done,” you smile, “All you need to do is turn around.”
Astarion takes a deep, shuddering breath but doesn’t turn, “What should I expect?”
You cock a brow at him. You’re not entirely sure how you expected him to react, but hesitancy didn’t even cross your mind.
Is he scared he won’t like what he sees?
“You will see yourself as the world sees you,” you say, calm and encouraging, “You don’t have to, Astarion. If it’s too much, I can always recast this when you’re ready.”
“No, I want to. Gods. It’s been so long, and I just… I just do not know,” he swallows hard, his Adam’s apple bobbing up and down, “Will you hold my hand? I do not think I can do this without you.”
“I’ve got you,” you interlace your fingers with his, “When you’re ready, love.”
He smiles, “That’s the first time you’ve called me that since I’ve been back.”
No… No, I couldn’t be. Is it?
“I- Uh…I-”
“Oh, don’t worry,” he giggles, “I won’t get my hopes up, friend.”
Astarion takes another slow, shaky breath and turns around slowly. The image of Astarion faces him, but its eyes are closed. For a moment, you think you didn’t cast the spell correctly, but when you look at Astarion, the figure mirrors him as it should.
Giving him this moment, you lean your head on his shoulder and wait patiently.
Astarion recoils slightly when his eyes open, and he sees the image standing there. The figures stare at each other, awestruck.
Astarion takes a step closer to the image and touches his face, running his fingers along his jaw, down the bridge of his nose, and over his cheekbones. He racks his fingers through his hair. Leaning in closer, he inspects his eyes and fangs, utterly captivated.
“Good Gods,” he pants breathlessly, “That’s me?”
“It’s you, Astarion,” you can’t help but smile, “in all your earth-shatteringly, realm-ending handsome beauty.”
“I am positively magnificent, aren’t I?” he muses agog, “Now, all your fiery jealousy makes perfect sense.”
You nearly chastise him, but when you look at him to shoot back some witty retort your mind hasn’t yet formulated, he’s staring at you with tears shining down his cheeks.
Shit. Maybe this was a bad idea.
“Fuck, Astarion,” you wipe the tears spilling from his eyes with your thumb, “I’m so sorry. I didn’t mean to upset you.”
He looks at the image of himself again, “I- I don’t believe I’ve ever cried happy tears before,” he chuckles low, his eyes downcast, “Not that I can remember, at least.”
Happy tears?
Before you can process his words, he sweeps you up in a cradling embrace, pulling you off your feet, “Thank you, my love.”
The spell wanes, and the figures form flickers before fading away. Astarion lowers you to the floor and looks at the empty area woefully.
“Astarion,” you guide his eyes back to you, still shiny with unshed tears, “I can recast that spell whenever you want. You only have to ask. This need not be the last time you get to see yourself.”
“Gods, don’t tell me that,” he sighs dramatically, with a striking crooked smile, “I’m likely to overindulge."
“Fine,” you giggle, “You will have to earn your overindulgence.”
“Oh,” Astarion smiles devilishly, eyeing you through thick lashes and hooded eyes, “How would you have me earn it?”
“Oh,” you tap your lips, “I’m sure I can think of something like warming Tara her milk,” you taunt.
Astarion scoffs, “The cat can wait for her milk. I was thinking more along the lines of depraved carnal lust?”
“Now?”
“Well,” Astarion smirks, “Now is as good a time as any, but I need to ask something of you.”
“What?”
Astarion sweeps your hair back and looks deeply into your eyes, “Stop being excessively gentle with me. I’m not as fragile as you presume me to be.”
Isn’t he?
“I-” you stammer with worry in your voice, “I will try.”
“Good girl.”
“Lock the door,” you tug at this shirt, “and lose this.”
“Demanding thing,” he chuckles, sliding the lock into place, “As you wish.”
Astarion pulls his shirt off and stands so close that your breasts graze his chest with the rise and fall of your breath.
Astarion’s fingers curl under the hem of your top, “May I?”
You nod, and Astarion lets his cool fingers caress the warmth of your skin as he strips you. The temperature contract makes your skin prickle, and desire flushes your complexion red.
Your nipples skim across the chilled skin of Astarion’s chest, making them harden into peaks instantly, and you shudder at the sensation.
The pad of Astarion’s thumb teases your sensitive peak, “You have no idea how perfect you are, do you?”
His teasing causes a breathy whimper to escape your lips, and heat pools as your nerves are set alight. Astarion takes your lips in his. The kiss quickly becomes primal, urgent, and all-consuming.
He nips your lower lip gently, forcing your lips to part, and his tongue traverses your mouth. Bolts of electricity ripple down your spine, awakening the achy need in your centre.
Astarion grabs your hips and rolls them against his throbbing erection with an urging grunt. The swell between your thighs sings with the decadent banquet of friction, and you moan low, ghosting your lips over his ear as you melt into him.
“You have no idea how much I miss being inside you,” Astarion growls with a voice soaked in burning want.
Gods. I miss it too.
The walls of your core clench uncontrollably as depraved thoughts and memories of him stretching you, claiming you, swim through your head.
Astarion shoves you hard, and you fall onto the bed with a giggle. Pushing your legs apart, he crawls up, kissing your stomach before swirling his tongue around your nipple, making your back arch and body twitch.
Gods. He could undo me with that alone.
Your splayed fingers slip us his chest, sweeping across his nipple, eliciting a pleasant rumbling groan deep in his chest. His lips meet yours urgently, and he bucks his hips into you, pushing the throbbing bulge in his trousers against your swell.
His presence is intoxicating, and you can’t control your body. Hells, you don’t want to control your body, and you writhe against him greedily, needy for relief.
Astarion’s hand slides up your thigh and his fingers ghost over the pulsating flesh, “How wet are you?”
Embarrassingly so. Nigh on soaked.
You groan as the flush of embarrassment courses through you and cover your face with your arms.
Astarion gently moves one of your arms away from your face, “Do not hide from me. You never have to hide from me.”
He rocks his hips against you, and you convulse and tremble against him with whimpering, sputtered murmurs.
“You’re soaked, aren’t you?” he teases, “May I, friend?”
“Gods, yes.”
Astarion slips his fingers into your waistband in an agonizingly slow descent that makes you wonder if you might combust before his fingers find their target.
He parts your folds while expertly avoiding that pulsing bundle of nerves that is craving his stroke.
“Hells, you are positively soaked,” he drawls, “You’re making quite a mess. We should get these off, yes?”
Astarion hooks his fingers into your waistband. You lift your hips in silent consent, and he slips your pants off you.
You squeeze your thighs together, feeling far too vulnerable under those piercing hooded crimson eyes studying you.
“I wish to look upon you, friend,” Astarion glides his hand between your thighs, “Will you let me?”
He uses gradual force to encourage your legs to part, and you allow your legs to spread for him.
Those cardinal red eyes devour the sight of you, full of unwavering adoration, “You’re beautiful.”
His fingers roam down your thigh to your folds, slick with desire. Breathy, sputtering moans escape your lips as your hips lurch at his touch.
His fingers trace the swollen border of your achy clit, “Do all your friends make you drip with need?
“Astarion,” you gasp.
“Yes, love?”
“Please,” you beg, “For the love of all the Gods. Please.”
“How many fingers?” he growls.
What?
Your mind can’t focus enough to string together what he’s asking. You squirm, trying to motivate his fingers to move faster, but he stills and waits for you to stop your writhing.
“When was the last time you were filled?” Astarion says firmly as he eases the contact of his fingers to nothing more than a light tease.
Do I admit this?
“You.”
Astarion’s brows pop up, eyes round with surprise, “Me? You haven’t been with anyone since I left?”
You stare at him, confused by his shock, “You are all I want, Astarion.”
Wait, does his shock mean he’s been with others since he left?
Don’t be so blind and naive. Of course, he has.
He has...
Under the overwhelming realization, your heart warps and bursts, violently rocketing the razor-edged shards you’ve been cutting yourself with, trying to glue them together. You clutch your chest as they tear you asunder anew.
The world feels like it’s crumbling down around you and drowning you in it.
Your cheeks feel wet. Are you crying?
Astarion’s hand cradles your cheek, and you leap off the bed to your hands and knees on the floor, recoiling from his touch.
How many others has he touched with that hand?
Stop.
But Hells, how many since you?
No. Stop.
Astarion is coming toward you, distress twisting his brows and shining vividly in those beautiful crimson eyes.
How many people have looked into those eyes since you while he drove them to their release?
Stop. Stop. Stop.
Fuck. How many?!
His mouth is moving, but Gods you hear nothing over the stampede of your heartbeat thrumming in your ears.
Run. Run. Run. Run and never stop , your mind wails.
You can’t breathe. Hells, you’re suffocating in this room as it caves in around you.
You can’t take anymore. You must escape. Picking yourself up off the floor, you throw on your clothes in a panicked scurry.
Astarion’s cool hand grazes the skin of your arm, and you shrink away, gritting your teeth.
How many? Fuck. How many?!
Astarion backs away from you, alarmed.
Run. Run. Run.
You’ve barely finished dressing before you find yourself sprinting through the manor.
You need to get away from this place, get away from him, get away from yourself.
Swinging the door open, the sunlight floods in. Someone cries out, but you barely register Astarion’s pained yelp. You launch out the door, slamming into a startled Gale, eyes wide with confusion.
Gale tries to halt you, but you push him away with a hard shove that nearly sends him toppling over.
You don’t stop. You can’t stop.
You run.

I love you all immensely. Take care. 💖
Tuesday comes too quickly. You don’t sleep the night before. It’s more than just Lee and your mother arguing that keeps you awake. The anxiety of your meeting bears down on you like an open maw, ready to devour you.
You don’t expect it to go well. You’re not even sure why you’re doing it.
That one thought repeats over and over. You don’t have to. You can cancel. You can make another excuse and stay a loser. That’s easy. Maybe that’s why it’s so scary. Because new things are hard.
You languish in bed as the time ticks by. You got to get up and get moving. Soon, you’ll do something. Soon.
You roil in the trepidation. Each move, each little thing, is a gargantuan task. You sneak out to wash your face and make yourself as presentable as you can. You waited too long. You have five minutes to put something on that isn’t wrinkled and stale.
You put on a black sweatshirt, hoping the little balls of lint aren’t visible. Maybe you can get away with just turning the microphone on. You open the computer and shift in the chair. One minute.
You find the email and scroll down to the link. You hover over it and stare. Noon on the dot. Your hand falters and you click the Zoom meeting. It opens in the browser and your breath traps in your chest.
The little box in the corner is black as you leave the red line through the camera icon as the mic catches the rustle of your shirt. There’s a man on screen. He sits before an office backdrop but you can’t tell if its digitally generated or real. His blond hair is combed back and he sports a thick beard and glasses. He wears a wool sweater over a collared shirt and stares down the camera.
“Hello,” he speaks, “anyone there?”
You clear your throat and croak, nearly choking on your own spit.
“Here,” you manage to squeak.
“Ah, hello there, may I ask you turn your camera on?” His voice is low and lilted, almost smoky in a way.
You hesitate and scratch your neck, letting your fingers wander up to your scalp. The itch spread, making sitting still unbearable. You wince as you hear someone in the kitchen, the fridge door closes heavily and a dish clinks on the counter.
“Hello?” The voice comes again.
You panic and hit the keyboard. You steady your hand and tap the camera, shying away as you slouch in your chair. The dim glow of your bedside lamp leaves you in shadow. Still, you feel exposed.
“Better,” he says but with little enthusiasm, “well, I suppose we best get to the meat of things,” he adjusts his posture.
“Okay,” you murmur and cross your arms, looking evasively at the wall.
“Good to finally meet. I’m Professor Smith,” he introduces himself and calls you by name.
“You too,” you utter out of courtesy. This is torture to you.
“Now, you’ve done very well on your completed work,” his eyes scan as he looks at the screen before him, "you’ve shown improvement up until a few weeks ago. You do have a lot of potential to be successful here--”
You nod and hunch down further. You just feel worse. You’re a lazy slob. You didn’t finish your work just like you never finish the laundry or cleaning your room.
“Irene!” Lee’s voice booms on the other side of the wall and you wince, looking over your shoulder then back to the computer. You huddle closer, hoping he didn’t hear that. Your mother’s drone responds to the holler.
“Perhaps it is the format? We could explore another option for your remaining assignments. I can accommodate where necessar--”
“Fuck off!” Lee shouts and a loud bang hits the hallway wall. You gulp and your lips part.
“Lee, please, I didn’t-- I wouldn’t--”
“Should’ve known better than to trust a whore!” Lee barks.
You cover your face and shrink down. No! Not now.
“Is everything alright?” He asks and you separate your fingers, looking through them. You drop your hands and nod.
“Sorry--”
Another loud thump, this time against your door and your mother sobs loudly as she slides down the other side. You stammer and your lip trembles as you stare mortified at the lens in the frame of the laptop. This is awful.
“What is happen--”
You wiggle your fingers on the touchpad and hit End Call. You retract and wrap your arms around your head, folding over your lap as you rock. How humiliating. You can’t believe that happened. Well, you can. It’s what always happens.
Your mother and Lee continue to argue, their fight just outside your door. You shake your head as you stay curled over. You don’t know why she does this. These men come around, call her names, knock her around, and she lets them come right back.
A tinkling noise comes from the speaker. Professor Smith is calling you. You decline the call. An email chimes in at the corner. It’s from him as well. You see the preview, a response to his last email.
‘Please respond or I will call authorities to confirm your saf....’
You click on the notification to expand the full message. You sigh and don’t bother reading the rest as you hit reply.
‘Everything is fine. I will take the fail. Thank you.’
Another call comes in. Just leave me alone! You hit the red button again and delete his last email. And he calls again. Ugh. What does he care. You’re sure he has lots of students to worry about. Another email and another call. Back and forth until you accidentally hit the wrong key.
He appears again, closer to the lens as his forehead lines, “hello, hey, hey,” he sits back, holding up a hand as you scramble, panicking as you fidget and try to figure out what to do, “don’t hang up, alright? Don’t, or I will be obligated to call the police.”
As he commands you, your mother and Lee continue their sparring in the hall, voices raised though not as clear from the front room. You sniff and rub your cheek, soothing yourself as you bring up your other hand to chew on your sleeve.
“Are you in danger?” He asked pointedly. You shake your head. “What is all that then?”
He’s quiet and you are enveloped again in the chaos outside your room. You shrug and tilt your head to one side. You look down.
“My mom...”
He sighs, “look, I wouldn’t have taken the time to call if I didn’t think you could do this. Perhaps, this was the wrong avenue. So, is it possible we meet somewhere neutral. In person?”
You shudder and sit up as much as you can, wringing your hands, “I... I... don’t drive.”
“That’s alright, is there a library near you, yeah? I can find my way.”
You frown and flick your lip under your teeth several times. You see yourself in the little box. You look scary as your eyes are pools of shadows.
“Uh...” you pull your hands apart and open a new tab, happy to have your image off the screen. You type into the search. You think there’s a library close by. “Yes, um, there is...”
“Send me the location. We’ll reschedule. When are you available? Thursday? I’m afraid tomorrow I’m booked up.”
You switch back to the video call. You feel tears tightening your throat and ready to spring. You shake your head and paste the URL of the library branch into the chat. His eyes flit down to read it.
“Thursday,” you repeat but it’s not as much a question as you mean.
“Thursday is good. Can we do earlier? Ten?” He asks.
You don’t know. You’re not used to making decisions. You don’t get asked for your preference ever.
“Sure,” you answer, just wanting to end the call and hide in bed.
“Alright, I’ll pencil you in,” he says, “shall I stay on the call until that...” he pauses as Lee continues to bluster, “subsides?”
“No,” you shake your head.
He stares at you, his forehead lined with disapproval. Why does he care so much? He doesn’t know you.
“Are you certain?” He intones.
You nod, “I have to go.”
You end the call and shut the computer. Your stomach is a jumble and you’re jittering with adrenaline. All your life, you’ve hidden behind these walls; you’ve hidden all that goes on there. To have someone witness it is worse than the yelling and hitting itself.
You ignore the chirp from the laptop and throw yourself into bed. Thursday. So, another torturous purgatory begins, waiting to face the professor and your incompetence once more.
📓
Thursday comes too quickly.
You sit in your room and convince yourself to go. It was easier when it was just a computer screen, though even that was difficult. Only for you because you’re so messed up. Because you can’t do anything.
What else can you do? The whole night you were awake thinking about how you would tell your mother. If you flunk out, you default on the student loan and you’re even deeper in the pit. The true consequences of your laziness are clearer now and you can’t let your sloth bury you again. If you do, you may as well give up on everything. Even life itself.
So, you have no choice. You’re being given a last chance. Again. You’d feel even worse for not taking it than you would for failing at it.
You pull on a hoodie and grab your house key and your knapsack with your computer and notebook tucked inside. That’s all you really have. No phone, no wallet. Just the bare minimum.
You shuffle to the door, standing just inside as you muster your courage. You check your digital watch, an old Casio you’ve had for years. The numbers are dim and hard to read in the dark. You have to get going.
You emerge and go down to the kitchen to sneak a sip of water before you go. Your room is always so dry at night. You drain a glass and rinse it out, leaving it beside the sink. As you turn around, you hear your mother’s bedroom door and the slap of her slippers as she slinks in.
“Ah, honey,” she smiles dopily. You can smell liquor from there. She might even still be drunk as her hangovers usually keep her abed. “There you are! Oh, gosh, are you going somewhere?”
“Mm, library,” you answer, “for school.”
“Oh, smart girl,” she slurs. You try to smile but it’s shaky and weak. Your mom tries, you know that, so you can’t hate her. “Can you stop by the shop on your way? I got a twenty. Wouldn’t mind some vodka.”
You pick at a fingernail, “mom, I don’t... I don’t like buying that stuff.”
“Mm, I know, but I...” she sways on her feet and belches into her fist, “never mind. I’ll just ask Lee when he comes by.”
“He’s coming?” You ask warily.
“Sure, sure,” she turns and staggers to the fridge, “he must be missing me by now.”
She bends, leaning on the door as she opens it, and peruses the mostly empty shelves. You leave her and go down the hall. You grab your shoes and slip them on, once more stopping at the threshold. Keep going. You made it this far.
You let yourself out and lock the door behind you. You take the stairs down to the first level and continue out onto the street. You keep to the edge of the pavement as you weave around other pedestrians that pass.
Your lips move as you recite the directions to yourself. You were sure to memorise the route as best as you could. You get turned around but right yourself and make it to the corner when you can see the grey brick of the library.
You wait at the light before you cross and your heart begins to race the closer you get. Oh no, you don’t know if you can do this. You want to just run away. What if he sees you and changes his mind? I mean, look at you. You’re not some perky coed, you’re... you.
You stare up at the facade and the large letters over the entrance. You take the first step, then the next. You focus on that. Right foot, left foot. Little things, one at a time. You can do this. You have to.

Making of Siffrin model!
If anyone wanted to know how exactly I made this model I will lay it out in detail here! Although this way my first time making something like this so I’m not an expert.
The base is polymer clay (super sculpey I think) with a wire armature shoved in there just in case I drop him. The buttons for the cloak and the dagger are also clay. I used a sewing pin to get a very small hole for the buttons to be threaded through.
After baking, I put base coats of black and white with acrylic paint. If the brush strokes for the white paint are very visible, water it down and do multiple layers until it’s opaque.
After the base coat I moved on to smaller details like the face and boot heels, as well as shadows and highlights. It took me a few tries to get the face right, the one shown above isn’t the final.
It’s also a very good idea to varnish it, especially for the buttons or paint will rub off when passing them through the buttonholes. DuraClear is pretty cheap and works well. A few coats ultra-matte over the whole thing, then gloss to areas that should be shiny (eye, boots, gloves, buttons, dagger blade).
The eyepatch is just a tiny piece of black felt and some embroidery thread Elmer’s glued to the face.
The hair I was going to needle felt, but my white wool(left) was slightly yellowed and it looks weird in context. I ended up using a piece of cotton(right) from my bottle of melatonin*, shaping the ends into tufts with Elmer’s glue, letting it dry, then attaching it to the head. For the dyed parts I used watered down acrylics. I worked drop the hairline inwards, then smoothed it out with loose bits of cotton and glue.
I am a bit worried the glue will end up yellowing in time, we’ll have to see.
*their hair does smell faintly of strawberries because of this. Also a cotton ball would work functionally the same.
For the clothes patterns I mostly just winged it, checking if it fit on the model until I got something I liked before cutting the pieces out of white and light gray felt. I did go a little off-model for the cloak because it needed to be removable.
I attached the cloak lining with a backstitch, and the collar with a whipstitch. The buttonholes I cut with scissors and whipstitched the heck out of the edges after making sure they were big enough. I had made sure the holes in the buttons were big enough to thread a needle through when I made them so I could easily attach them.
The hat brim pieces I whipstitched together while they lay flat on top of each other very close to the edge of the fabric. I did the same with the pointy part, but also flipped it inside out afterwards. I used a running stitch along the edge to attach the top and bottom brim, and a backstitch with the pretty side on top to attach pointy piece while kind of folding it so the edge lays flat against the brim.
The last step was to use very watered down acrylics to make it look weathered.
And that’s it! Not sure if anyone really wanted this, but I figure it doesn’t hurt.
I’m happy to answer any questions!

Engineer x Pyro preg fic!!!
The RED team's base was never that warm in winter. Especially the base located in Snowplow which was already cold enough, it didn't help that it was the dead of December and all the mercs had to find some alternative way to keep warm. For the team's resident Engineer that meant sitting in his little workshop, being kept heated by some overworked machine that he was using as a heater. He did take the time to tinker with a few little gadgets and gizmos, and figure out why his teleporters weren't working right. The Texan wasn't alone. There sat beside him in a rather comfy recliner chair was Pyro.
The masked mercenary also seemingly working on something, not as advanced as Del's own machines, but hard enough for them that they seemed to be struggling and starting over again a couple of times.
Engineer had let his concentration break a few times, allowing his eyes to wander in Pyro's direction to see what they were working on. Their hands still protected with those near two inch thick gloves, attempting to knit some sort of blanket. The Pyro wasn't particularly skilled it seemed, as they were constantly stopping half-way through every blanket to start a new one, all because of one mistake. Although after some time Engineer had once again decided to peer over to Pyro, viewing a far more completed, now scarf length piece of wool. It was a lot better compared to all the serviette sized blankets that Pyro had so carelessly tossed aside.
Red and yellow in colour and now long enough that it was draping over Pyro's belly, which had grown a large amount in size.
"For the baby, Pyro?"
"Mmr phe mmby!"
If Engineer was correct, Pyro's mumbles indicated that the blanket was indeed for the baby, the baby that had been growing in Pyro's belly for the past six months and even through the asbestos suit, was now becoming more prominent.
Pyro found some comfort in lazing back in Engineer's well heated workshop, and not being disturbed by the other mercs. Beside them was a small table hosting a basket full of yarn balls that Pyro was subjecting to below mediocre knitting, a plate of little sandwich looking cookies that Spy had baked out of boredom (Which he called Macarons) and a cup of hot cocoa in a giant Mann. Co mug, adorned with whipped cream and marshmallows.
Pyro couldn't be enjoying themselves more, although sitting by the fireplace in the Rec Room, needlessly burning whatever random things they could find would be better.
Pyro had stopped for a moment, the sudden change in activity once again garnering Engineer's attention. Gloved hands now gently running in circles around their swollen middle and a gentle mumble could be heard from behind the mask. One couldn't see the fire wielding merc's face from behind the gasmask, but Engie would tell when something was up with them.
Quickly, Engineer turned his chair in Pyro's direction, seeing them now place their hand underneath their rather bloated middle.
Suddenly Engineer felt Pyro's hands grab his own non-robotic arm and was being pulled in their direction and having his palm forced against Pyro's belly.
Another moment of silence as Pyro moved Engie's hand across the expanse of their stomach in hopes he could feel what they felt.
Engineer's eyes, hidden behind goggles, pierced upwards from Pyro's belly to their own shadowed eyes.
"Is it the baby? Is it kicking?"
"Mhmm!"
Pyro shook their head, still attempting to move Engineer's hand around, but not much could be felt on Engineer's part, seeing as Pyro was still wearing that thick, protective suit. And well something had to be said.
"Darlin', I can't feel a thing, you're gonna have to take the suit off."
Pyro didn't hesitate in the slightest, and although it was a major struggle for them to lift their overburdened body up from the chair, they still managed. Unzipping the suit from the back and removing all the belts and straps to reveal their heavily pregnant figure.
Pyro had always been chubby, but their now six month pregnant belly only stood to make them look rounder. They were wearing a lightly burnt up, pink coloured vest, which stood to hide Pyro's very scarred and burned body.
Once again they grabbed Engie's still intact arm and pressed it against their vast belly. A thick layer of fat covered their womb, but Engineer could just feel the tightness of their pregnant womb. The minor disturbance had again awoken the baby inside and kicks and movement could be felt again. The feeling of a little kick against Engie's hand had him almost in tears, a sudden rush of happiness and joy shooting through Engineer's brain, having him suddenly press his noggin against Pyro's belly and placing a gentle kiss near the naval.
"Sweetheart? Is this the first time you've felt the baby properly kick?"
Pyro just shook their head, and Engie could tell their were smiling behind the mask. There had been some worry about the pregnancy early on. With all the stress Pyro's body had gone through in their life and what it would continue to go through as a mercenary, Medic had classified it as a "high risk pregnancy", which worried Engie. Worrying that the baby wouldn't even live till birth, but here he could feel a rather lively baby kicking about.
Engie continued to rub and place kisses all over Pyro's belly, until he could hear some low groans and heavy breathing from Pyro, to which he shot up out of his own chair to help Pyro sit back down in theirs.
Despite always carrying around a tank of gas and a giant, homemade flamethrower, Pyro had found being knocked up to be extremely exhausting. Although they seemed fine once they were back down in the chair.
Engie's hand lay on Pyro's hip, massaging the bone and up by their lovehandles.
"Hold on, sugar. I'm gonna go get you something."
Engineer left Pyro to go search for the merc's sweater, which would be a far better option for them to wear instead of that heavy suit.
Pyro sat, half nude, only their tank top and underwear to cover their shame. Since they were already missing their suit they might as well take off their gloves to feel around their belly a little better. The baby had since found a comfy spot and went right back to snuggling up in Pyro's womb, so not much kicking or moving could be felt.
The hard hatted merc returned with Pyro's pajama bottoms and Company issued Mann. Co sweater. One being provided to all the mercs when being forced into such cold bases.
"Really gotta keep warm in this place, right Py?"
Pyro was happy to receive the clothes, letting Engie help put them on all while still sitting down.
"Mhhmm!"
Pyro muttered in agreement. Neither they nor Engineer were used to such cold conditions, but the sweater and pants seemed to be comforting to the little firebug.
Once Engineer was done dressing Pyro, he sat his body close to his partner, placing his hand once again atop their belly.
"If I didn't know any better I'd say you were ready to pop!"
A sigh escaped Pyro's mask. Didn't they know it? Six months in and having only one baby? And yet they were rather large. Scout had made some backhanded comment the other day about how Medic definitely had a baboon uterus put in Pyro, and that wasn't Del's baby but some dumb Baboon, which earned the youngest merc a slap in the face. Maybe it could be chocked up to Pyro's weight or all those vitamins and crazy experimental drugs given to the mercs. Needless to say Pyro was huge.
"I think you look cute all round like this!"
"Mhmrr mrst mrming mrt mpho mme mmece!"
If Engineer could translate correctly that was a "You're just saying that to be nice." but truthfully he meant it. Something about Pyro's rotund figure and how they had since developed a little waddle was extremely cute to him. Of course Pyro had not been on the battlefield since they discovered that they were pregnant, but Engie could only imagine them not being able to keep up with anyone, so it be best they stay here.
"No, I'm serious. Although I think everything about you is just adorable."
Maybe there was a little blushing behind the mask, but Pyro wouldn't tell.
Engineer now placing an ear against Pyro's belly and hearing a low rumble, indicating hunger, which didn't seem go be satisfied by the little sandwich cookies.
"How's about I go see if someone made dinner? You sound famished!"
No words escaped Pyro's mouth, but a nod of agreement was all Engie needed to go by.

Blend in, make it through the year, and make some friends. Stay unnoticed at all costs.
Hawkins, and one seriously loud-mouthed metalhead, is about to flip that carefully laid plan Upside Down.
Chapter one: Cursed

Chapter Two: Munson Magic
Rose
“It’s the most hellish day of your life,” the words trip off Eddie’s tongue with all the gravitas of a stage actor, his eyes peeping over the demon-painted dungeon master’s screen, boring into her soul. “You’ve been betrayed, abandoned, and left to face danger alone. You have one move remaining; a last gambit. What do you do, Rose? Do you take the potion of invisibility and hide from your enemies, or do you face the dragon Iymrith in its lair, ready to face your demise?”
Fight or flight. Be invisible, or show herself and take on her demons. This first Dungeons and Dragons campaign perfectly mirrored her first day at Hawkins High, and probably her whole life. There was something comfortable about being unnoticed, until you realised no one missed your presence at all. The irony of this choice was not lost on Rose.
She’d stumbled into the lair of Hellfire after school three hours ago, finding herself drawn into a campaign with six very intense, very passionate teenage boys in matching shirts. A party of adventurers, led by a manic, charismatic rocker. He could have been obnoxious with his loud personality, impassioned rants, and a decent-sized ego, but somehow he wasn’t. He was kind, with the prettiest eyes she had ever seen. God, no, she couldn’t be thinking about his eyes right now. Or his lips. Or the glimpse of tattoos on the skin of his forearms, or the ...shit . Compose yourself, McAllister.
Gareth and Mike were talking at a thousand miles an hour about hit points and odds of success as she pulled herself together. The guys were on the edge of their seats, waiting for her next move, each one of them already killed by the dragon; the hopes of the party lay upon her shoulders. Her skin prickled beneath the itchy wool of her mum’s cardigan, far too hot and stuffy for the warm September night. Be brave , she told herself. Take out the sword .
“I take the potion,” she said, defeated. “I drain the glass vial in one gulp, and seek refuge in the thick brambles of the forest. If the ice dragon can’t see me, it can’t kill me, right?”
Eddie gave her time to sweat, ignoring the debate of the Hellfire members in the background. “You sure, Lady Thorn?”
God, it really was warm in here. Rose’s hand toyed with the dice. “Yes, but...maybe...agh. I’m starting to worry that my big, completely unexpected entrance tonight has you thinking i’m brave and cool and capable of slaying a dragon. You’re probably thinking i’m Eowyn, Lady of Rohan, wielding swords and kicking arse, and about to punch the Witch-king of Angmar in the bollocks.”
Gareth, who had taken an ill-timed sip from his can of coke, sprayed it back over the table, choking and coughing until Jeff and Chris both slapped him on the back, just a little too hard.
Eddie didn’t even notice, he was staring like she was on fire, lips parted a little bit. “You read Tolkien?”
Rose didn’t hear him; she was mid-ramble, so hot and flushed she had to pull the cardigan off her head clumsily and scrunch it into a ball in her lap. “I’ve built myself up to be a shieldmaiden, but the truth is, i’m just a hobbit. I want to sit by the fire in Bag End, with a nice cup of tea and a book. So maybe I should just take the potion and run from Iymrith.”
“That didn’t work out so well for Frodo, did it?” Dustin finally broke his silence. “When he wore the One Ring he wasn’t exactly invisible, and it led to him being stabbed by the Morgul-knife, carried by the Witch-king of Angmar himself. You might wanna hide, Rose, but the fight has come to you.”
“Henderson speaks wisely,” Eddie admitted begrudgingly. “The time for self-doubt is over, sweetheart. Iymrith the dragon waits for no woman - be she shieldmaiden or hobbit. His wings beat overhead, stirring the canopy of leaves in the forest. He spies your fiery dark red hair in the tree cover, and takes aim.”
Rose panicked. “Oh shit, oh shit, oh shit...I prize Mike’s single-handed sword from his dead, cold grip and raise it toward the dragon.”
“ Yes , I knew you had it in you,” Gareth choked out, his voice still croaky. “Take the bastard down.”
“But it's madness!” Jeff was spiralling, hyperventilating and shaking his fist. “You can’t just wield a single-handed blade against a dragon with most of its hit points remaining.”
“Jeff’s right, the physics of it would never work,” Dustin agreed, wielding his pencil like a sword. “But we don’t traverse the Forgotten Realms to debate physics, my friends. We do it in the name of adventure. We do it to be heroes!”
The cluttered drama room was buzzing with cheers and applause; Rose lurched to her feet, clutching the edge of the wooden table with her hands. She had no idea what she was doing, but she felt like the moment demanded dramatics.
“I pull back my arm, and launch the sword into the air like a javelin, in the path of the dragon.”
She looked up expectantly at Eddie. He passed the d20, and they all held their breath as she rolled in onto the table. It bounced and clattered, settling on seventeen.
“That’s high, that’s a high number, really high” she babbled. “Did it work?”
“Hold on,” Mike added. “The chances of a random sword hitting the dragon and doing anything other than bouncing off or giving it a little cut is tiny . The DM would have set a ridiculously high target, like 19 or 20. It’s what I would have done.”
Their current DM looked down at a mass of paper and notes behind his demon-painted screen. He let them sweat, face inscrutable, leaning back in his wooden carved throne. “Kid Wheeler is correct. I’m sorry, Lady Thorn, your sword swings in a parabola through the air, skittering off the dragon’s back.”
“Motherfucker,” Rose groaned and slapped the table, earning a slightly startled look from the younger guys.
“Don’t worry about it,” Jeff says, deflated. “Eddie’s campaigns are sadistic. It’s amazing you even made it to the end alone, especially playing as a nymph. They’re kind of useless, with no-”
“Hold on a minute, did I look like I was finished?” Eddie interrupted. “Cool it for a second. The sword glances off the dragon’s back, but as the blade strikes its scales something flickers...you see a disturbance, and instead of a leathery wing, a humanoid shape takes its place. A humanoid with tentacles coming from its head. Its skin is purple-grey, and covered in a film of mucus, from eating brains!”
“Aw, man, this can’t be happening,” Dustin panicked, pacing around his side of the table. “It’s a goddamned illusion. It wasn’t Iymrith after all.”
“What?” Rose cried out, way too loud.”
“I think Mike’s sword was spelled. It broke an illusion. But that means...” Gareth trailed off.
Dustin sighed heavily. “It’s a Mindflayer.”
“Fuck off!” Mike cried reflexively. “We cannot be doing this again, man. It’s been two months.”
Chris’ mouth gaped open. “Did you guys have a Mindflayer campaign over the summer, or something?”
“Or something alright,” Dustin said, serious as the grave.
Tension quietened the table. They looked at each other over the goblet and flickering candles, working out the consequences of this development. And Rose, as usual, had no bloody clue what was going on, only an instinct to let it play out naturally.
“Wait, this is good news, gentlemen - and lady.” Eddie added quickly. “The Mindflayer is working in your characters’ minds. All your characters are still alive, under the creature’s spell. If the odds are with you, you might just be able to break free and slay it. And thus, the baby-campaign continues next week.“
“Thank the gods,” Jeff sighed. “I’m too attached to my spellcaster to give him up.”
Eddie looked over at her, puppy dog eyes watching her every move, manic energy dialled right down, strangely vulnerable. “ So. That’s the whole Dungeons and Dragons thing. What did you...uh...was it good? I mean, did you enjoy it?”
She couldn’t keep the grin off her face. “Did I enjoy it? That was fucking brilliant. I know my nymph was essentially useless when we had to fight, but I did it...I stood up to the forces of evil; I wasn’t just a hobbit, I was a warrior like Eowyn. I just wished I had been better and actually slain the dragon. Not very impressive, am I...”
They rushed to correct her, all talking at once. “Hold on,” Gareth said loudest. “I saw you humiliate Carver and his letterman assholes within minutes of arriving at school, not just making fun of him personally but undermining the stupid masculine sports-thing, attacking the very pillar of his masculinity. You are totally impressive.”
The Hellfire members were laughing, looking at her in a new light.
“What?” Eddie blustered, head swivelling to look at them all. “What? Where? What? How the fuck did I miss that?”
Gareth shrugged. “This is what happens when you get detention in O’Donnells class for ranting about the rigidity of a reading list, man. You miss the best moment of the school year so far. I’ve never seen so many jocks scratch their heads at once.”
Rose snorted with laughter very inelegantly, and flushed red with embarrassment. “It was just like that gorilla impression Eddie did in the cafeteria today.”
Eddie gawped even wider. “You saw me, sweetheart? And here I thought the mouthbreathers juggling their big bouncy balls were the only spectators. Damn. Damn . I am speechless. Words have failed me. And there is never a moment when I don’t have something to say.”
“Clearly not that speechless. You’re still talking,” Jeff mumbed.
Eddie folded his arms over his chest, showing off tattoos, lit by the candles and spotlights. Bats. Intriguing.
“So you liked it?” He asked again. As she glanced at the others, she wondered how many new members they really took on. Six guys, most of whom seemed to know each other well. Admittedly not the type to sit at the top of the food chain in a school environment. Not a single girl amongst them.
“Liked it?” She put her hand to her chest. “I feel like I've just fought off the hordes of hell itself. My heart is racing.”
Eddie’s eyes dropped to her chest; her laughter died on her lips, as realised what she felt beneath the palm of her hand. Not the scratchy cardigan stolen from her mum this morning - that was dropped to the floor, forgotten in the throes of battle - but instead skin, with a ridge of twisted scar tissue snaking up the middle of her sternum, ending halfway to her collarbones. Shit .
She looked down, and picked up the cardigan, holding it up to her chest, but the nervous looks on their faces told her everything she’d needed to know. They’d already seen it.
“Hey,” Eddie said, soft as velvet. “You don’t need to...uh...hide yourself or anything. And I don’t just mean the badass scar, I mean... you , y’know? We’re the freaks, sweetheart. I was a little worried that this apparently perfect girl had stumbled in here, and we were gonna find out you were a preppy asshole, or something. Which you are not, by the way. Very cool. Very unique.”
Rose dipped her head, her face flushing hot. She dropped the cardigan, mustering up the courage to say something, anything.
“This is totally unfair,” Dustin burst out, lighthearted and smiling. “Look at you, showing off your collarbones and everything. I don’t even have collarbones. Watch this...”
He flexed his shoulders forward, and they moved at an unnatural angle and almost met at his front, to the surprise of the older guys.
“Cleidocranial dysplasia,” he grinned, metal-clad teeth on display. “Had a few missing teeth, too, but these babies are new. Look out, sophomore year, Dustin Henderson is going to have a full set of teeth. I’ll be unstoppable.”
He did a little tiger-like roar, and it was the lamest, most brilliant thing Rose had ever heard in her life. She collapsed with laughter, holding her aching sides.
“I’ve seen this act more times than I can count,” Mike grumbled like an old man. “It gets old.”
Eddie was beaming at the head of the table at his little freak show. “That is metal, Henderson. Very metal. How about you, princess? How’d you get the battle scar?” His eyes widened and he made a goofy gesture with his arms. “You don’t have to talk about it, not if you don’t want to. Not an order, not that I even can order you, though i’d kinda like...i’d kinda like to shut up now.”
Rose’s head ducked down, and pulled a thread from the cardigan in her lap absentmindedly. “I was born with a congenital heart defect. Everything was fine until I was thirteen, then it wasn’t fine. I’d go blue in the lips and get breathless. They kept me in hospital for almost a year, told me I had a very small chance of survival because the deformity was so rare, they didn’t even have treatment for it yet. Between thirteen and sixteen I was in and out of hospital more than school.”
“That must have been tough,” Mike said quietly, his quiet demeanour and hidden empathy surprising for a boy of fourteen. “My girlfriend missed a lot of school too, for...uh...similar reasons. It was really hard for her to make friends.”
“You find out who your true friends are when things get really bad,” Rose admitted bitterly. “They dropped off one by one. When I was well enough to go to school they weren't mean or anything, but they weren’t really friends any more either. By the time I was sixteen the hospital had developed a very experimental surgery. Cracked me open like a lobster, gave me this beautiful scar, and - despite the bit in the middle where I died on the table - I woke up, and felt...normal. OK, I was shit for a few months, but then I was normal as any person with a heart condition can be. They fixed up the old ticker and sent me on my way.”
“Hold on...you DIED?” Eddie’s strangled voice echoed across the prop room. “Like, heart stopped? Clinically dead?”
“Yep. For quite a long time. It was a miracle that they resuscitated me, actually. I don’t remember anything. No alternate dimensions, no grey purgatory, no light at the end of a tunnel. Just a feeling of weightlessness, like I was floating in water, no sight or sound. Then I was coming around in the ward, off my head on morphine.”
“That is fucking intense, McAllister. That’s goes beyond metal, that’s...that’s fucking magical.”
“Doesn’t feel magical,” Rose glanced down at herself. The scar was the width and length of a pencil; two years had seen it fade from angry red to a pinkish silver, still standing out from the creamy pale skin. When she looked in the mirror it was all she could see, despite her mother’s words of encouragement, telling her to wear it with pride.
“Scars are fucking cool. Look, I pay to get stabbed with needles so I can have something half as cool as that. See?” Eddie dragged down the collar of his shirt; her eyes trailed down his neck - oh my god, his neck - to more ink scratched across his skin, a figure she couldn’t make out, obscured beneath a guitar pick necklace.
“Did they hurt?” She asked tentatively.
“These babies? Not really. More like a very intense tickle. Except when it went over bone, then I was crying like a little girl. Weeping, snotty, begging for mercy, the whole deal.”
Eddie was a lot . Leather chains at his wrist and on his jeans, demon on his shirt, attitude bordering on obnoxious when it came to the jocks in the cafeteria. Yet Rose could see that in the privacy of the drama room he was goofy, patient, utterly enthusiastic, and possibly even a little bit vulnerable. It was almost enough to give her whiplash.
“I thought a dungeon master would be made of sterner stuff.” She teased.
His grin was brighter than the stage lights in the background. “Oh yeah? You haven’t seen what a DM can really do, sweetheart. Next semester's next campaign is going to be mind blowing. My best yet. If you...uh...I haven’t had time to talk to the guys about this, but do you wanna stick around for it, maybe?”
Rose looked at her watch. It was nearly seven; hours had blown by, her mood totally transformed since the incident in the locker room almost four hours ago. “I don’t think I can, my mum is probably outside waiting for me.”
Eddie grabbed the back of his neck, looking sheepish. “I kind of meant next time. We meet on Fridays, same time, same place. If you want to. No pressure; like Gareth said before, hanging out with Hellfire isn’t exactly a fast track to popularity or an easy life around here.”
“You want me to come back? Really?”
“Hellfire has had girls before, if that’s what you’re worried about,” Jeff explained. “But not since Ronnie graduated in ‘84. I don’t mind.”
Gareth was also enthusiastic. “If you can voice the female characters we come across on our travels, I'm totally in. It’s not been the same since my voice dropped at the end of freshman year.”
“This is so exciting,” Dustin gushed. “We’re gonna have to create a character for you. We can run you through classes, alignments, preferred weaponry...the possibilities are endless! We could even meet at lunch or in the library or something, to flesh you out before next week’s session.”
Mike snapped his fingers. “As long as it brings balance to the party, right? I’m a paladin, that’s like a knight. Jeff’s a spellcaster, Chris a fighter, Dustin’s a bard...Lucas - you’ll meet him next week - is a ranger. We are really in need of a cleric, though. We haven’t had one since our friend Will the Wise moved to California.”
Rose was trying to piece it all together, but it was a lot of new information. “What do clerics do?”
“They heal,” Eddie said, fidgeting in his seat. “Clerics are conduits of otherworldly power. I can kind of see it, but it’s a little...predictable.”
“Predictable?”
Eddie kept her on edge, gaze sweeping over her, nodding to himself. He leaned so close she could smell cigarettes, Old Spice, and something musky, uniquely man . Her throat went dry.
“You are anything but predictable, McAllister. You survived death; you’re probably told you should forget it, move on, pretend it didn’t happen. That shit stays with you, but you can take charge of it. Own it. You know, I can see you as a necromancer.”
It was like Eddie Munson, freak, dungeon master, could see right into her mess of a mind. Plucked out her greatest fear and twisted into a strength.
Dustin took in a shocked breath. “Oooh, that is so perfect. You survived death, and now you raise others from the dead to do your bidding. Liches - or necromancers, same thing - are kinda evil though, and they are not usually part of the adventurers party. And I would have pegged you as chaotic good.”
“Chaotic neutral,” Eddie mused, holding onto his chin. “You’re good most of the time, but you can also be very bad if you want to be.”
He was trying to kill her, wasn't he? Finish off the job, heart beating overtime.
Her lips tugged upward into a reluctant smile. “I like it. I think I really like it. But my Tolkien metaphors are going to be completely confused. I’m a hobbit by nature, I want to be Eowyn of Rohan, but i’m really Sauron the Necromancer himself? Can I even play with you if I'm evil?”
“Eh, we’ll work on it.” Eddie breezed over it, chin propped up on his hands. “I am all powerful after all. Might have to make some adjustments to the upcoming campaign, but I think it's going to work out in the end.”
The clickety-clack of footsteps echoed down the distant hall. “Rose?” A very familiar voice called out.
“Shit,” Rose launched out of her seat. “I have to go, that’s my mum.”
Eddie looked resigned. “I get it. Parentals will be scared of the princess hanging out with the freaky cultists, huh?”
Rose barked out a sharp laugh, scrambling over to the costume rack, looking for the leather satchel she threw dramatically into the corner on entering the room this afternoon. “That’s a low roll and a miss, dungeon master. She may look like an English librarian, but...you’re the Fellowship, she’s the Balrog.”
“Balrog,” Eddie echoed, leaping over to help Rose. “Scary, Flame of Udun, lurks beneath mountains. Got it.”
“Rosebud, are you here? Is everything alright? ” Her mother called out, voice drawing closer with each step.
Eddie popped up from the costume pile with a satchel in his hand and a curious look on his face. “Rosebud, huh? Cute.”
Oh wonderful, now he knew her humiliating childhood nickname. She snatched the bag from him, and paused, desperate to say something funny, something smooth, or at least something memorable before she left. Instead, she went beetroot red and mumbled incoherently.
“Huh?” Eddie squinted.
Okay, charisma is lacking. Honesty might have to do.
“Thank you,” she said sincerely, to Eddie and all the guys all watching behind him. “This could have been a really bad day, but thanks to you, it was bloody lovely.”
“Rose!”
“The Balrog calls,” she paused at the door, taking one last look at the Hellfire boys over her shoulder. “Wish me luck.”

Eddie
“Uh...gentlemen?” Eddie asked, hands running through his hair. “Did I concuss myself under that table, or did that whole session really just happen?”
The prop room was somehow smaller, darker now that she had gone. If it wasn’t for the extra chair squished to the right of his throne, and the incredibly unusual stillness of the six guys behind him, Eddie Munson would swear he just experienced a three-hour fever dream.
“I like her,” Henderson’s first to break the silence, throwing out his chipper verdict on the freaking angel that just upended Hellfire. “She was neat.”
“ Neat ?” Eddie wheeled around, revved up, no outlet for his thousand-mile-an-hour thoughts. Crap, he needed to dial it down a notch. “Yeah, neat. A little raw, but a lot of potential.”
They were laser-focused on him, but he couldn’t afford to scare the freshmen off now, not when Hellfire had two, three if you counted Sinclair, recruits who were really fucking into the game.
Worthy apprentices, at last. Kids who could carry Hellfire forward and make sure it didn’t die next year, with only Gareth left. Cause, goddamn it, Eddie had gone through his last first day at the monkey house that was Hawkins High. There was no fourth shot at senior year, not when he’d be turning twenty in the spring, and the school board wouldn’t allow an adult over twenty to re-enroll. Three strikes and you’re out, Munson. Off the bench, out of the team, and a dozen other tired sports metaphors his old man would have used if he were here.
Gareth, Jeff and Chris were being weird. Quiet. Still . Watching Eddie as he packed up the DM’s board and pieces, gathering up his story notes and scoring sheets with a gentle tap, tap, tap of all the papers, fitting them inside the box neatly. The maps were a little smudged from Gareth spitting out all that coke, but he could let them dry out by the overworked little space heater in the trailer tonight, and trace fresh new ones this weekend.
“Well?” He snapped. “Are you gonna help pack up, or sit there like a bunch of drooling cave trolls?”
The rest of the guys were waiting for something to happen, but it was Gareth who broke first. He raised a single mocking eyebrow. “So are you planning a spring wedding? Or wanna cut to the chase, and ask her to elope to Vegas? I can see you in an Elvis jumpsuit.”
Eddie fidgeted, rings tapping against the table, mouth twitching. Keep it together.
“I don’t know what the hell you’re talking about, Gareth,” he denied casually, shrugging on his leather jacket and battle vest. Armour donned, shields up, ready to deny, deny, deny. “If you really don’t want her to join we can work something out, but I think she’s like us...I think she needs this.”
More raised eyebrows from the older guys.
A girl called out; Eddie’s heart skipped, but it was merely Wheeler’s big sister, the prissy one who ran the paper. Dustin and Mike threw together their stuff in record time, completely whipped by the voice in the hall.
“That’s Nancy,” Mike explained. “See you guys on Monday.”
“Great campaign, Dungeon Master,” Dustin saluted him at the door, over his ‘Thinking Cap’ , before disappearing into the night.
They really were good kids. It had only been three weeks since he spotted Dustin roaming the cafeteria in his Weird Al shirt, scoping the tables and cliques who sat at them, searching for his own place in the school ecosystem. Eddie had offered them shelter at the freak table, sensing kindred spirits. There was something about Dustin and Mike, they completely owned their nerdiness, in a mature way freshman Eddie had definitely lacked. Lucas was different; sure, he was great at D&D and clearly had a tight friendship with the other freshies, but he was a little less comfortable owning it. He’d watch the jocks table with envy, wince every time someone threw a joke or an insult Hellfire’s way.
Gareth, Jeff and Chris? They’d been playing together for years. Greatest friends he had in Hawkins, or at all , now that his childhood best friend Ronnie was in the Big Apple, her book smarts earning her a place at NYU after their first senior year. Her Granny Ecker still lived in the trailer behind Eddie and his Uncle Wayne’s. They were stuck together like magnets once, but now their polarity was reversed, distance growing with each phone call; Ronnie talking about law school and all the excitement of living in Brooklyn, Eddie chiming in every now and then with a new campaign plan, the latest class he was failing, the same old crap she had left behind a year and a half ago. Poles apart. Damn, he must have paid attention in Mr Kaminski’s physics class to remember that shit. Either that, or Henderson’s insanely smart brain was rubbing off after barely a month.
But Gareth, Jeff and Chris weren’t just Hellfire, they were Corroded Coffin too. Hours at Hellfire and even more hours practising in Gareth’s garage brought them pretty close, close enough for Eddie to know they were not going to let this go, not without giving him shit about it.
Chris shook his head. “ I couldn’t pull off what you just did in a hundred years. Talking to girls one on one is...kind of my kryptonite. How do you do it, man?”
“Do what, huh?” He fired back quickly. “Make a new potential member welcome to the group?”
Gareth chuckled mercilessly, dropping his voice to imitate Eddie. “You’re good most of the time, but you can also be very bad if you want to be... I don’t recall you saying that stuff to Wheeler or Henderson, or any of us when we joined. And you definitely didn’t call us fairer than the sunrise over the Greypeak mountains .”
Eddie placed the D&D box gently back on the table, and his composure broke. He collapsed forward onto his forearms, shaggy hair shielding him from his friends and their judgement. Hidden, he could give voice to the chaotic new thoughts swirling in his already-chaotic brain.
“Shit. Jesus H. Christ. I came on too strong. I came on too strong, right? Did I just make myself out to be a grade-A asshole? I...uh...I know i’m lacking an off switch most of the time, but was it too much? Was I bad?”
Gareth wouldn’t let it lie. His face was smug - okay, Eddie couldn’t actually see his face, but he could feel it in his voice, in his friend's aura. “Bad at what ? Say it, Eds. Come on.”
Eddie burrowed deeper into the table, voice muffled beneath all that hair. “Perhaps, maybe, it could be possible that I like the fair maiden Rose. In a...more than platonic way.”
“No shit, Sherlock,” Gareth said, matter-of-fact. “It was obvious.”
Eddie sighed like it was the end of the world. “Let me just crawl away and die. Better yet, put me out of my misery, crack me over the head with that goblet. Lights out, goodnight. Nice to have known you. Jeff, you can have my Warlock. Chris, I bequeath to you my tapes and posters. Gareth, you little shit, you get nothing, not even the dirty magazines under my bed. Bury me in my battle vest. Wayne will have to make peace with my untimely death.”
“This is dramatic, even for you,” Chris gave his verdict. “It’s just a girl. I’ve seen you talk to girls before, after gigs and stuff.”
Just a girl. Sure. Just a girl whose smile lit up the room like the fourth of fucking July, fireworks spinning in his head, fizzing in his ears. Who used Lord of the Rings analogies to adorably find her place in the world. A girl who laughed at Dustin’s goofy jokes, threw herself into D&D without judgement or hesitation, totally giving herself over to the adventure. A girl who wasn’t cheerleader-pretty, but timelessly beautiful, like she should be in a fancy laced-up gown on the cover of Granny Ecker’s historical romance novels, the ones that always seemed to have a shirtless guy wearing a kilt.
He didn’t just have butterflies in his stomach, it was like a horde of winged demons were trying to claw their way out. Brain not yet caught up, body trying to give him a warning. Girls like that don’t wind up with Eddie the Freak, resident of Hawkins’ finest trailer park, the friendly neighbourhood drug dealer.
Gareth turned to Chris. “So how lame was he, on a scale of one to ten?”
“I thought it was kind of suave,” Chris replied, shrugging on his own leather jacket. “Like James Bond.”
“Oh, come on! Double-oh-seven has a little less verbal diarrhoea than our DM. And far cooler cars and gadgets.”
They bickered back and forth as Eddie waded in his own misery, replaying the whole campaign and how she’d reacted to it. She was nervous, yeah, but she got into it. Great improv skills.
“She likes you back, by the way.” Jeff added nonchalantly.
Eddie’s head snapped up. “Oh, right, cause you can read minds now.”
Jeff kicked Eddie under the table. “I have three sisters, so yeah, I have insider intel into the female species. She looked at you like Tara looks at Michael Jackson when Thriller comes on MTV.”
Chris’s mouth drops open. “Ew, like the werewolf part? I guess Eddie has a lot of hair.”
“No, dude,” Jeff replies. “The normal part with the girlfriend at the movies, before he turns. Okay, after he turns too. Women are a complicated species, Chris. They’re into all sorts of weird stuff.”
A switch had fried in Eddie’s brain. “Which means?”
“Weird stuff? Like vampires and-”
“No, Jeff!” Eddie launched out off the table and grabbed him by the shoulders. “The look your sister has for Michael Jackson. What does the look mean?!”
Jeff gritted his teeth, like it physically pained him to talk about his irritating older sister, who he heard just moved to college somewhere in Georgia. “It means Rose was all blushing and smiling, hung on your every word. I’m not saying she’s crushing on you, but she isn’t not crushing on you, if you know what i’m saying.”
She didn’t not like him. That’s only one step away from actually liking him. And liking him was just one step away from a hangout, a date, maybe even move in for a kiss - and now all he could picture was her lips. Seriously good lips. Full, cupid’s bow, beauty mark near the corner of her mouth. So pretty when she smiled. Hope flared his heart, like those electric paddle-thingys had just jolted him back to life.
“I knew it,” Eddie said.
Gareth wasn’t convinced. “Weren’t you just doubting yourself?”
“Munson magic,” Eddie ignored him, swooping round the table, Reeboks tapping on the linoleum, moving to the music in his own heart. “Eddie the Bard worked on his charisma for so long, it had to pay off eventually. Ability off the charts...I got it, man. I got the Munson magic.”
Jeff stepped out of his way and almost tripped, looking over at the costume rack in the corner. “There’s something i’ve got to tell you, but first you have to promise any of this isn’t going to make Hellfire weird.”
Eddie crossed his fingers over his heart. “I will not bring girl drama to Hellfire. I promise on my wicked, hellbound soul. Now tell me!”
Jeff tipped his chin toward something in the pink taffeta dress dominating the costume rack, a chunky silver rectangle, with a cord snaking out the top. “Cinderella left her slipper behind. You might wanna give it back to her on Monday, Prince Charming.”
Eddie gasped dramatically, hand slapped to his chest. “A walkman. Rose’s walkman.”
He was over there in a shot, tripping over the costumes, slamming onto his knees by the precious object. He picked it up gingerly; there was nothing remarkable about the lump of plastic, nothing to tell him more about its owner. But what lay inside tempted him beyond belief. He clicked the button, popped open the top of the cassette holder, and inspected its contents. There were no printed stickers on the black cassette tape, only the faint shadow of a permanent marker on the clear part: Study mix.
“Holy shit, it's a mixtape,” he half-squealed at the guys. He felt like a prospector striking gold, nuggets sparkling in his hands. Scraps of information, carefully chosen slices of her mind for him to study. An introduction to the music that makes her tick. And music was the heart of everything, a window into the mind.
“You know who gives out mixtapes? Boyfriends.” Gareth, that goddamn contrarian, said sarcastically.
Eddie pointed at him, skull ring sparking in the light of the now-stubby melting candles. “That’s it, you're out Emerson. Expelled from Hellfire.”
Gareth spread his arms wide, face scrunched up and ready for a fight. “What the fuck? You just said-”
“I’m kidding, i’m kidding,” Eddie interrupted quickly, “Besides, she’s just moved, she knows nobody. I don’t think it's a boyfriend. If she has one back in England...well that would suck, but long distance doesn’t exactly work out for most people, does it?”
“Real classy, Munson,” Gareth shot back.
“Cool it, Gareth. I just wanna talk to her some more, get to know her. No need to invent drama that doesn’t exist.”
“Whatever,” Gareth shrugged. “Are you still okay to give me a ride home?”
“Of course, man. Gotta pay you back for using your garage as our practice room. I need your opinion on some potential W.A.S.P covers for our next set at The Hideout, we can talk about it on the way home.”
That perked Gareth right up. Eddie might have new apprentices, but Gareth was the first freshman he’d sheltered under his tattooed, scrawny wing when Carver and his jock squad singled him out for a beating a couple of years ago. Hobbits have got to stick together, and when they fought together, there was nothing they couldn’t take on, be it a cave troll, Jason Carver, or the disdain and fear of the entire small-minded town.
Still, Eddie slipped the walkman into the pocket of his jacket, and every now and then he would slip his hand in and touch it, just to make sure it wasn’t a fever dream after all.
---
Forest Hills Trailer Park was never quiet, not even on a Friday night. Eddie’s van skittered into the makeshift parking space by the trailer he shared with Uncle Wayne; the whirring engine and glam metal notes of W.A.S.P disappeared as he cut off the engine, and the dusky September night was filled with dogs barking, a screaming match between the couple in the RV round the corner, and a dog chained up somewhere near the forest edge. God knows it wasn’t the finely manicured neighbourhood of Loch Nora, or even the more modest single storey ranch homes that made up most of Hawkins, but it was home.
Eddie launched up the steps and flapped open the door, humming Love Child under his breath and tapping it on his thigh. His battle vest and jacket were thrown onto the wall hook, and he made a quick sweep of the fridge; the remains of the tuna casserole Granny Ecker brought over on Monday were looking a little sad and dried, and Eddie could not be bothered to cook up the eggs and bacon. He grabbed a can of Miller Lite and an apple, and slammed the door shut.
“Now I know your momma didn’t raise you to be a savage, Eddie Munson. Softer next time, please.” A southern drawl came from the corner of the room.
“Holy fuck!” Eddie’s arms flailed about, catching the Miller Lite mid air and dropping the apple on the patterned carpet.
“She didn’t teach you to cuss, neither,” Uncle Wayne muttered from his recliner chair, peering over the paper, lit by a cosy lamp. The trailer was so busy with mugs and hats Wayne had picked up on the road in his truck driver days that he went unnoticed amongst the clutter.
“You’re scaring the life outta me, Uncle Wayne,” Eddie laughed nervously. “It’s Friday, shouldn’t you be at the plant?”
Wayne watched the apple roll across the floor, scooping down to pick it up when it got close. “I swapped shifts with Carl so he can see his granddaughter’s ballet recital next week. Taking a Tuesday shift instead. I was gonna head out to the country bar in Carterville with a couple of old buddies but they came down with the stomach flu, so you’ll have to put up with your old uncle tonight.”
“You’re...uh...you’re no trouble Uncle Wayne. It’s me that you’ve gotta put up with.” Eddie said glumly, catching sight of the pullout bed in the corner of the living room. “I can go out for a while if you want some peace.”
That pullout bed was a squishy, metal-framed reminder that his uncle had given up his bedroom and his freedom full time after the incident a couple of years ago that led to Eddie’s childhood home going up in flames, and his ex-con of a father - okay, definitely still a con - fleeing town. Even before then, when his dad was in the drunk tank or on a bender somewhere Eddie would be left alone for days or weeks, rescued by Uncle Wayne and taken back to the unlikely safe haven of the trailer park for a while. His uncle's unconditional love and endless patience got Eddie through a clusterfuck of a childhood. He’d never be able to thank him enough for it. Guilt remained, even after he started dealing to bring in some money to help keep the dilapidated home together, and ensure he could pay for his own clothes and van, lifting some of the burden of raising a kid you didn’t even ask for.
“Hey now,” Wayne dropped his paper on the side table and fixed Eddie with a serious look. “I ain’t trying to drive you out. Trailers’ not exactly a palace, but there’s enough room for the two of us. There somethin’ on your mind, son?”
Uncle Wayne motioned for Eddie to sit on the couch next to him, so he kicked off his Reeboks and collapsed in the seat, cracking open the Miller Lite and reclining in silence as he took the first foamy hit of it, yeasty and soothing on his tongue. His uncle lit up a Marlboro Red, tip flaring orange red in the dim trailer.
“Do you think i’m like Dad?” Eddie said, looking absentmindedly at the ceiling with its numerous water and tobacco stains.
He hummed thoughtfully. “What makes you ask?”
“I don’t know, I just...I’ve been thinking about him lately. The way he is with people. He’s an asshole, goes without saying. But he’s got that charm about him, something people are drawn to. I guess I think I had something similar, but I don’t want to be like him. I don’t want to hurt people the way he does.”
“Ed,” Wayne says softly, leaning on the arm of his chair. “Al Munson might be able to charm the birds from the trees, but it's a shallow kind of charming. Scrubs off real quick, and by the time people realise what my brother’s truly like, he’s split town and left behind a trail of gambling debts and broken hearts. That included you and your momma more than once, bless her soul. You might have his charm, Eddie, but yours ain’t shallow. It runs deep,” Wayne smiled a crooked smile, etched deep into his weathered skin. “Plus, Al had a receding hairline, and you’ve got a hell of a head of hair. Needs a cut, though. Startin’ to look like a shaggy dog.”
Eddie bit back a smile, touched more than he could say. “Don’t mess with the hair. I’m like Samson, it holds all my power.”
“No, son. That’s all in here,” Wayne taps the space on his plaid-covered chest, right over his heart.
Eddie dips his head. “Don’t go soft on me, old man.”
“Wouldn’t dream of it.”
He sipped his beer, sitting quiet and peaceful as Wayne put on some Western on the little TV by the door. Gunslingers chased each other across the desert, or ran after a runaway train, Eddie wasn’t really focused on movie detail, instead just basking in quiet, comfortable companionship. Wayne asked nothing of him, and that was what made him want to open up.
“There’s a girl,” Eddie ventured, twisting the metal can around in his hands.
“Is that so?”
“It’s nothing. Stupid, really. But it’s got me thinking about dad, and life and repeating senior year, and...everything.”
“That’s heavy.”
“Yup,” Eddie agreed, draining the can in one last swig.
Wayne cleared his throat politely. “You gonna be bringing this girl around sometime?”
“Woah, hit the brakes, Uncle Wayne. I’ve only known her for about three hours. It was a good three hours though, you should have seen me. I was smooth. She said I made her first day in American high school bloody lovely. ”
Wayne twisted around to face Eddie. “Your girl. She new in town, moved over from England by any chance?”
“How’d you guess?”
A dark shadow passed over his uncle’s face, mouth pressed into a line, eyes narrowed. “Her stepdad is Jerry Gruber, we used to run around in the same group as kids. You’d remember him, he used to head up the engineering office for the plant, left back in ‘81 to work for the Department for Energy. Got himself a job in Europe after that, and a wife and stepdaughter too. Came back last month.”
Eddie’s brows creased; she’d spoken about a stepdad, but he didn’t clock the name at the time. “Yeah, that fits. She said as much.”
“Listen,” Wayne leaned in, voice deep and rumbling. “Jerry bought the old Creel house on Morehead. He’s more foolish than I ever thought...that place ain’t right, Eddie. The only thing that came outta the Creel place is pure evil, and Hawkins ain’t a normal town, no matter how everybody here turns a blind eye to things. I don’t care if you’re sweet on this girl, promise you won’t go there.”
Jesus H. Christ. That place was notorious in Hawkins, a genuine murder house boarded up for years after some gruesome shit went down when he was a little kid. Every middle schooler had been dared to go up to that place and face the ghosts inside, Eddie included. But all that demonic stuff was bullshit. Nothing there but empty rooms, broken glass, and a metric fuck ton of dust. He didn’t even know the place had been sold. He tried to imagine Rose living in a gothic murder mansion, and came up short.
“Have you found my stash, or something? You’re not making sense, unc-”
Wayne grabbed his wrist. “Promise me, son. Promise me you won’t go to that fuckin’ house.”
Wayne didn’t cuss, and he was not physical, not even when Eddie was at his worst. “Alright, Uncle Wayne. I won’t.”
“You mean it?” “I swear on my Warlock,” he added quickly, raising his free hand up, palm splayed wide. “That place is straight out of a slasher movie. No desire to go there.”
“Good,” Wayne gruffed, as he let go. “I’m sorry, son. Didn’t mean to scare you.”
Eddie rubbed his wrist. The man’s grip was surprisingly strong, but then he did manual labour at the plant, not some cosy office job. “Don’t sweat it.”
“And Eddie, don’t get caught up in your head with the girl. A bit of that Munson magic does a whole lotta good, son, when it's coming from you . Don’t let anybody tell you that you’re not good enough. Including yourself.”
Eddie scoffed and zoned back in on the TV, cogs whirring like overtime; his uncle had gone back to the paper, totally normal. That was weird...Wayne wasn’t superstitious. He’d probably watched a few too many horror movies. It was nearly that time of year; Halloween coming up, tacky plastic decorations in the window of Melvald’s General Store, leaves crispy and golden. Something in the air, maybe.
An orchestra swelled as the shootout in the western movie reached its peak. The rogue gunslinger got the bad guy, and something about the music clicked in his brain; he’d almost forgotten about the walkman tucked in his jacket.
Eddie pushed to his feet and crushed the beer can, tossing it in the trash can with a clatter. He padded over to the coat hook, socked feet slipping on the kitchen lino, eager hands pulling the walkman out of the jacket pocket, tapping his fingers against the plastic.
“I gotta go study,” he explained to Wayne.
His uncle’s face had never looked so confused. “Homework on a Friday night. Are you sick again, comin’ down with a fever? We ain’t got no tylenol, but I can go out to the seven-eleven and get some.”
“I’m sick alright. But the diagnosis is looking good, Uncle Wayne.”
Wayne gawped. “What the hell are you studying, biology?”
He grabbed another beer on the way to his room, shutting the refrigerator door softly this time, little headphones and walkman clutched tight to his chest. He gave his uncle a classic Eddie wild grin. “Music 101: Intro to Fair Maidens.”

Hey, Stranger
Book: Open Heart
Pairing: Dr. Ethan Ramsey x F!MC (Dr. Sawyer Brooks)
Rating: Explicit
Warning: 🔥NSFW, ⛔18+ Only, contains explicit sexual content
Category: Fluff, Smut
Word count: 2.4K
Summary: A handsome stranger offers Sawyer a ride in his pickup truck.
A/N: Artwork by the incredible @/artbyainna on Instagram. This fic was inspired by the song Look I Like by Alana Springsteen.
With a fresh coat of lip gloss and a fluff of her tousled waves, Sawyer exits the crowded ladies' room to a cacophony of distant conversations, glasses clinking, 80’s rock music, and pool balls crashing into each other. She breathes in the smell of beer and fried food as her eyes adjust to the dimly lit bar. The main source of light, a buzzing neon sign that reads The Rhode House, beckons her to the center of the action.
Squeezing between several patrons, she flags down the bartender and orders a local draft. As she waits, Sawyer takes in the scene around her. The crowd, mostly locals, is a mix of working classes. The Rhodie accents are thicker among the jovial blue collars, while the more reserved white collars literally wear the mark of their collared shirts.
“A Sea Dog Wild Blueberry for the lady,” the bartender draws her attention. As she turns back around, she catches a sidelong glance from an attractive man sitting a few seats away. She tastes the foam from her glass and casually positions herself to get a better look at the handsome fellow.
The soles of his brown laced boots are caked in dried mud, and he wears a pair of Levi’s that fit snugly around his muscular calves and thighs. The backless barstool affords her a clear view of his perfectly rounded ass.
A distressed cotton T-shirt molds to his torso, the short sleeves tight around his thick biceps. When he sits a bit straighter, Sawyer can see the peaks of his pecs on full display.
She follows a trail of stubble from his neck to his chin and along his masculine jawline. His well-worn baseball cap casts a shadow over his hooded eyes, and dark chestnut hair curls around its edges.
There is something about how he holds his drink and thoughtfully swirls the amber liquid in his glass. A tough and rugged exterior permeates confidence and sophistication. It’s as though he’s lived on both sides of the tracks and finds himself most comfortable living somewhere in between.
As if he could feel the heat of her gaze, the stranger turned his head slightly over his shoulder, catching her in the act of checking him out.
Sawyer doesn’t shy away. Instead, she smiles unabashedly and takes a slow sip of her beer. But the intoxicating moment is instantly sobered when a portly patron sitting between them stands to reach for his wallet.
Luckily, the crowded bar does not deter their interest in each other. Returning to their drinks, they continue their game of eye tag, taking a peak whenever an opening appears.
Sawyer has only had a few swallows of beer, but the way this man keeps looking at her makes her feel a bit tipsy. And just when she thinks he couldn’t be more her type, the complete opposite slinks in beside her, cutting off the view.
She quickly surveys the offender.
Mahogany oxfords match the leather belt looped through his tan dress pants, and a gray wool sweater layers over a neatly tucked-in button-down.
He’s tall and fit, his face framed by a neatly trimmed beard and smart tortoiseshell glasses.
He has the air of a wealthy New Englander, a preppy who probably drives a BMW and is a country club member down the street.
After ordering an Old Fashioned, he turns to her with a smile. “Hi.”
“Hi,” she returns politely.
Leaning down to her ear, he speaks over the hubbub of the bar.
“I noticed you from the other side of the room and wanted to come say hello.”
Her senses are overwhelmed by hints of spice and cedarwood standing this close.
“I landed a big promotion at work, and I’m celebrating tonight,” he added.
“Congratulations,” she offered.
“I’d really like to buy you a drink.”
There’s no denying he’s attractive and polite, but he’s too polished. Too well-mannered for what she had in mind that evening.
The bartender interrupts before Sawyer can even respond, placing a drink in front of her. “From the gentleman in the hat,” he says, tilting his head toward the sexy stranger from before.
“What kind of drink is this?” she asks, holding the glass to her nose to take a sniff.
“It’s our house special…the Rhode House Special. It’s not on the menu, but it’s a local favorite,” the bartender answers.
Turning back to the prepster, Sawyer remembers his offer.
“Thank you, but it appears someone has beat you to it,” she smiles apologetically.
Accepting his defeat, the man in the wool sweater collects his drink and nods. “If you change your mind…” he trails off before returning to his party.
Sawyer catches her new friend's eye, raises her glass, and offers a coy smile of gratitude.
He acknowledges with a tip of his hat.
Eyes never leaving him, she takes a long, savoring sip. She rewards his kind gesture with a slow lick of her lips, earning a satisfied smirk before he turns his attention back to his own drink.
With the ball in her court, she gathers her things and wedges herself into the narrow space between his stool and the occupied one beside him.
“Hey, stranger," she greets, instantly mesmerized by his piercing blue eyes.
“Hey,” his voice is rich and velvety.
“I’ve been watching you.”
“Same.”
Sawyer rests her back against the bar top, the new angle putting her cleavage on full display. Her audience takes the bait and shamelessly adjusts to the new focal point.
“I don’t know if you’re here with somebody tonight…but I hope you’re not,” she confesses.
“I’m not.”
“Anyone waiting at home?”
He shakes his head no and takes a swig from his tumbler.
“Good. Because I like what I’ve seen.” She deliberately looks him up and down. “You’ve got that look I like.”
“Oh? What look is that?”
She drags her teeth over her bottom lip and leans in. Her breath caresses the shell of his ear as she speaks.
“The look of a guy not afraid to get a little…dirty.”
His eyes immediately rake over her body. The silky red fabric of her spaghetti strap sundress feels see-through under his scrutiny. A small smile tugs at the corner of his mouth when his gaze falls on her muddy cowboy boots. He appears to have reached the same conclusion about her.
Downing the last of his drink, he stands, already knowing the answer to his next question.
“My truck is parked in the back. Do you want to go for a ride?”
“God, yes.”
After settling their tabs, Sawyer boldly follows the dashing stranger to the parking lot. His ‘77 Ford F250 Highboy is parked in a dark corner. The truck is in excellent condition for as many miles as it’s seen. An outstretched hand holds her steady as she climbs into the passenger side and slides onto the bench seat.
The driver’s side door opens a moment later, and her chauffeur sits behind the wheel. He puts a key in the ignition, turning it over just enough to let the push button radio come on. Soft country music fills the cab while a soft red glow from the bar’s outdoor sign filters through the windows.
Sawyer notices how he relaxes on the bench, his legs falling open. Scooting to the middle seat, she runs her fingers from his knee up his thigh.
“Before we take that ride, how about we warm up the engine?” she suggests, running the back of her fingers over the swelling fly of his jeans.
He answers with a moan.
Wasting no time, Sawyer unbuckles his belt. She yanks it from around his waist and drops it to the floorboard. Unfastening his pants, she guides her hand under the elastic band, freeing him of the confines of his boxer briefs.
A devilish smile flits across her face before she bends down.
She drags her tongue up and down the length of his shaft, drawing teasing circles around the tip before finally taking him into her mouth. Her hands hold his hips down as her lips expertly glide along the delicate skin. Sawyer takes as much of him in as she can, her cheeks slightly caving in with each nectareous suck.
His head slowly falls back while his fingers tangle into her blondish tresses.
She gauges how close he is by the unmistakable sounds of pleasure and the tightening grip on her hair. She releases him with a pop and sits up when he's on the verge of release.
As he descends back to earth, Sawyer gently removes his ball cap and blindly lays it on the dashboard behind her.
Her hands slowly navigate the landscape beneath his shirt. When her fingers graze the hair on his chest, she eases one hand behind his back and tugs it off.
She studies his torso like a map. Her fingers trace a path from his collarbone, under his rounded pecs, over his ribs, and down the plane of his rolling six-pack. Taking a direct route to the valley of his chest, she diverts quickly to his nipple, circling it with her thumb.
With her lips at his ear, she whispers, “Ready for a wild ride?”
Sitting back in her seat, Sawyer slips her boots off, then reaches under the skirt of her dress. Slightly elevating her hips, she removes her blush-colored panties and hangs them around the rearview mirror for safekeeping.
Throwing a leg over his lap, she straddles him, careful not to take him in just yet. She rests on his powerful thighs and wraps her hand around his manhood, stroking him a few times.
He eagerly reaches for Sawyer’s waist, silently coaxing her to come closer. Hooking a finger under the thin strap of her dress, he slides it off, exposing her bare breast. His large hand envelopes it, massaging her nipple into a stiff peak. He pushes the other strap off her shoulder, the top of her dress falling to her waist. Swiftly leaning forward, he takes her into his mouth.
Sawyer folds her arms around his neck to hold him in place as he delightfully nips and sucks.
The hungry hunk lifts his head and forcefully captures her mouth. It’s the first time their lips have connected tonight, and they are immediately open to one another. He cups her face in his hands, pinning her hair back as his tongue occupies her mouth.
The intense sensation stimulates her whole body, and she unconsciously inches her sex closer to his.
With equal force, Sawyer pushes him away, shoving his shoulders against the back of the bench. Hurriedly, she reaches under the hem of her dress, and holding him in position, she rises just enough to mount him.
He hisses as she lowers herself and takes him in completely.
She rocks her hips back and forth at a steady pace while his hands begin a journey up her thighs, around her hips, and finally come to rest on her bare ass. But the green of her eyes has him on the move again. His touch travels up her spine, over her shoulders, through the valley of her breasts, and past her navel, until his thumb finally reaches the spot.
The pace quickens, and Sawyer pushes her hands against the cab's roof for extra support. Her breasts bounce with each rise and fall. But strong hands hold her hips in place as each downbeat is met with an upward thrust.
“Yes…yes,” she mewls. “Oh my god…I’m so close.”
“Come on, baby,” her lover instructs.
Sawyer cries out as she is lifted to heaven by the rapture. “ETHAN!”
Throwing an arm behind her, she plants her hand on his knee. Her hair falls back as she arches deeply, pushing her breasts forward while she rides out her orgasm.
“Oh, fuck,” Ethan whispers at the sight of his climaxing girlfriend.
The involuntary shudders set him off and filled her with warmth.
Ethan rests his head against the cool rear window and closes his eyes to regain equilibrium.
When he opens them a few moments later, Sawyer rises to help him ease out. But before she can fully dismount, he seizes the sides of her face. Pulling her close, he crushes his lips onto hers. “You are fucking incredible. You know that, right?” He kisses her again, softly this time. “I love you.”
“I love you, too, stranger,” she giggled. “Thanks for playing along.”
“Thank you. But I’m curious. What brought this on?”
“You know I go feral anytime you wear jeans and a t-shirt…” she reaches behind for his Hopkins cap, placing it backward on his head, “and your baseball hat. Also, watching you hang siding with your dad today,” she fans herself. “You were such a tease… giving me peeks of skin… and showing off your hot bod,” she explains, skimming her fingers along his V-lines.
Ethan’s phone buzzes, and he looks at the caller ID. “Speaking of…”
He puts the call on speaker as Sawyer moves back to the passenger side and pulls her dress straps back onto her shoulders.
“Hi, Dad.”
“Hey, did you kids get lost or something?”
“Sorry, we took a little detour,” he winks at Sawyer. “We picked up the paint and will be home right after I stop and fill your truck with gas. You’re almost on empty.”
“That’s awfully kind of you, Son. Thank you.”
“We’ll see you soon, Dad.”
As they put themselves back together, Sawyer asks, “So, the Rhode House Special? That’s the same drink you had Reggie make the day we met, right?”
“It is.”
“Are you going to tell me what’s in it finally?”
He chuckles, turning over the ignition. “Nope.”
“Ethan!” she swats at him as he puts the truck in gear.
He smiles when he checks the rearview mirror to ensure it's safe to back up. “As much as I love this view, I do believe these pose a driving hazard,” he chuckles, unhooking her panties from the mirror.
“I guess I should put those back on,” she says, reaching for them.
“Oh, no, you don’t,” he retreats, tucking them into his pocket. “We’re going to take full advantage of this bench seat.”
Tapping the middle space between them, “Scoot your ass over here and buckle up, baby. This strap is going to hold you down when you start bucking your hips,” he smiles smugly, tightening her seatbelt. “I want you s-”
“Safe?”
“No. Screaming my name again.”
BONUS: This is the slut that had that Sawyer so worked up all day.🥵 Happy Smutember!

The Blanket Test
Today our scientific endeavors march ever onward. For this test, we consider the humble blanket, a precious companion to practically every human on the planet. Our blankets provide warmth and comfort as we drift off to sleep, but to many Pokémon, it's a foreign, curious, mysterious square that eats most of our bodies every night and wiggles around weirdly.
Throw it over your Pokémon's head and see what they do! :3
Do take necessary precautions and use a blanket you're okay with losing or throwing away! If some of your Pokemon have a history of being destructive or are hazardous by nature, I don't want people losing their favorite comforters! When I did the Mirror Test some few months back I know some of y'all wound up with broken mirrors. As always, for the sake of scientific detachment, I shall refer to myself as "tester" and my team members as "subjects."
-----
Subject 1: Vivi the Sylveon Blanket Used: Personal comforter. Results: Subject already mostly familiar with blankets, but still tested for posterity. Subject was already napping in tester's bed as test commenced. Tester prodded subject awake and promptly threw comforter over subject's body. Subject remained still for a brief moment, then began to wiggle under the sheet. Ribbon-feelers emerged from underneath covers and subject successfully removed blanket from most of body. Subject squeaked happily upon seeing Tester. Pets ensued.
-----
Subject 2: Aka the Zoroark Blanket Used: Personal comforter. Results: Subject was idling in pokeball at time of test. Tester released from ball and promptly threw comforter over subject. Subject briefly scrambled, grabbed comforter, and hucked it back at tester. Subject and tester amused. -----
Subject 3: Kati the Gengar Blanket Used: Personal comforter. Results: Subject was called from tester's shadow and promptly blanketed. Blanket held form briefly before subject seemingly dematerialized and blanket fell flat upon the floor. Tester removed blanket to utter absence of subject. Tester then heard giggle and felt chill run up spine and concluded subject returned to tester's shadow and fed off of body heat.
-----
Subject 4: Jeanne the Corviknight Blanket Used: Spare wool blanket. Results: Subject was on watch/resting on front porch. Used spare blanket and threw over subject's head. Subject grabbed blanket in beak and violently shook and prodded at it before the blanket even had a chance to cover her. Subject continued to "investigate" blanket with beak and talons before setting blanket underneath herself and roosting on it. Tester unable to retrieve blanket from subject since. Results still better than expected.
-----
Subject 5: Strider the Dusk Lycanroc Blanket Used: Spare comforter. Results: Subject resting on personal cushion as test commenced. Tester threw comforter over subject. No initial response recorded, subject laid still under blanket for a notable amount of time before eventually rising and walking blindly forward until blanket slid off. Subject barked at tester and sniffed blanket, before returning to cushion. Tester noted rock bits and minor fraying where subject's rock mohawk rubbed against blanket. Washed promptly after results with Subject 6.
-----
Subject 6: Davy the Kirlia Blanket Used: Spare comforter. Results: Subject idling in pokeball as test commenced. Tester released from ball and promptly threw blanket over subject. Subject shook in surprise as blanket covered him, then began to protest and wiggle out of blanket. Subject likely upset hair was being messed up by blanket and bit into it, violently jerking head until blanket was wholly off. Subject then smiled proudly at tester in similar manner he does when victorious against opposing Pokémon. Blanket surprisingly unharmed and not torn by subject's flailing and teeth.
-----
Final Subject: Ren the Human. Blanket Used: Personal comforter and sheets. Results: Nap time. Subjects 1, 2, and 5 joined in. Tester enriched and refreshed by experience.

how do you shade clothes and skin
Shading(in general):
First I decide where the light source is in the drawing. This is important because it decides where you’re going to add shadows to whatever you’re drawing.
Then I shade. This depends on your art style but sometimes I use a soft brush or Gaussian blur on shadows that are far away from the light source. I usually use a multiply layer.
I add a darker, desaturated color to the shadow layer in places where light doesn’t reach at all. This is optional and you don’t have to do this depending on the lighting.
I also add a new layer and paint the reflected light on top of the shadow. Reflected light is on the opposite of the light source and is dim and desaturated. It is also lighter than the shadow area and darker than the light area.
Where the light source is Where the light reaches Where the light doesn’t reach(shadows)
Shading clothes:
It’s necessary to know what kind of clothes you’re going to shade, because how you shade clothes is going to be directly affected by the material of that cloth. Is it a shiny ball gown? Or maybe it’s a soft wool sweater. The shape of the folds, the complexity of the shadow, and the amount the cloth reflects light all depend on the texture and thickness of the clothes.
Shadows on clothes usually form where the clothes fold, like the armpits and joint areas.
Shading skin:
Skin is different from most materials/objects. Skin has many layers and is kind of translucent. So where light hits skin it reflects some of the light but also absorbs the rest of it, resulting in showing the red(from blood and raw flesh under the skin)(I know this sounds gorey but it’s not, just try placing your hand directly under a desk lamp and you’ll get what I mean). This is called subsurface scattering. Adding subsurface scattering makes the skin look more natural. Subsurface scattering might not be seen in darker skin, darker skin reflects light rather than absorbing it. Lighter skin looks rosy and almost translucent while darker skin looks shiny in bright light.
Tldr; skin both reflects and absorbs light, and it has many layers, so you need to shade skin in a different way from how you shade in special cases. This is also optional and whether you should add subsurface scattering depends on your preferred art style.
When there’s a bright light source I shade the skin in a new layer, alpha lock that layer, and paint the edges of the shadows with a light pink color.
Process + Speedpaint video
Flat color
Shading
Adding subsurface scattering: I focus on the face and neck when adding it because these parts blush easily than other body parts. Isabela has brown skin so subsurface scattering isn’t seen clearly.
Adding reflected light: Usually I only add reflected light on the object if the object reflects light easily(A soft blanket would absorb light rather than reflect it, so I wouldn’t add reflected light on it if I’m drawing blankets). Isabela’s skin, hair, and dress are shiny so I added reflected light all to them.
Light: the color of light and shadow should be opposites unless you want unusual experimental coloring. Again, this depends on your art style. I decided that the light will be warm yellow and shaded Isa with a desaturated purple-ish blue color.
Adding blush & palm color: Isabela’s skin tone is either a neutral or cool brown so I added a multiply layer on top of the flat color layer and painted her blush with a desaturated light pink color(I add peach pink or light orange blush to characters with warmer tones). About the palm color, I always lighten brown characters’s palms because they’re actually lighter than the rest of the skin in reality. Some people don’t do this because they have simple art styles, but I just like doing it.
Painting flowers in Isa’s dress + “rendering”: i didn’t want to draw all the flowers so I just used a flower brush in procreate and painted it on top of it. Also I don’t know why people call this step “rendering”, it’s basically adding a new layer on top of all the other layers and fixing unsatisfied parts of your art, adding small details and vibrant colors, etc. so it looks more polished.
Adding flowers in background.

Tell me about being in a cabin with Dean, having a calm, romantic night, and having sex while it snows outside.
Boots and Blankets and Things -
His boots were by the door. Snow was melting off the treds as the heat from the fireplace reached across the big room. The little puddle was nothing to worry about, they could clean it up later.
The thick blankets were tossed aside and rumpled beneath them; the warm wool threads frayed from years of use. They didn’t make blankets like that anymore, they were only ever found tucked away in the back of closets or stowed in car trunks in case of emergencies.
An empty whiskey bottle lay on its side on the floor, kicked over by an elbow, a foot, who’s to say? They’d drunk their fill and then some, raiding Bobby’s stash in the bedroom until they were warm and giddy, drowning in lust and rye.
Flannel shirts were balled up as pillows and stuffed beneath her head. Denim was cast away aside like trash, cotton was sprinkled like breadcrumbs across the cabin.
Outside a gentle snow fell onto freezing earth, weighing down the pine trees, erasing the gravel driveway, the stairs, their hopes of escape. It piled up on the windows, stuck in the muntin, fogged up the glass.
Inside, he held her close, spreading kisses like honey down her body. His lips were chapped from the cold but oh so warm as they nipped at her shoulder, suckled on her breast, parted her lips with hungry kisses.
Light from the fire played across their nakedness, casting shadows in curves and illuminating sacred spaces usually kept hidden. Dean kissed every spot, let his fingers glide over every inch previously unknown. Y/N held her breath as he explored, moaned his name when he struck the sweet spots. She scraped her nails down his back, nibbled gently on his ears, fit her thighs snug around his trim waist.
There was no rush, no need to worry. There were no monsters lurking behind the trees, no doomsday clock ticking away over their heads. There was only the perfect falling snow and the fire, only the passion between them and the stillness of the forest.
Tomorrow, they would dig their way out, shovel the Impala free and fight their way down the mountain. But tonight they slept in peace, sated and calm, wrapped together on the floor by the fire. Tonight they found the love they both needed, the safety of old wool blankets and the warmth of each other’s arms.
