Hi! I read somewhere about someone not liking Luz's ending since she "didn't grow as a person" at the end of the owl house. They said that she only became more depressed or traumatized but she's still the same cheerful and helpful girl like in the first episode of season 1. Do you agree?

i feel fans try to view her as this bubbly girl boss, we know and love, however we overlook her flaws cause of discourse. she’s this impressionable, unruly, explosive girl with self imaging issues & unresolved grief, that effected her lifestyle.

I truly do depict her as a girl failure which ill get to a list of reasons, I’ll be getting into

Now let’s get down to reasons why, she gets to the way she is.

Luz wants to do so much for others, that she hasn't practiced learning about self-love and acceptance, it all backtracks in her past of her deceased father & trying to relate to earth kids with opposite interests that can be harmful.

I felt they truly had fun time to an extent how they can push her in a negative direction, (this goes for hunter which I’ll do a post/video soon.)

Heck to the point in season 3, she never interacted with anyone on earth in her school, which is concerning, cause that can lead to self-harm or failed relationships, also known people as kikimora or talking to her other friends in season 3 coulda gave her a wake up call.

DRAGGING THEM THROUGH MORTAL PERIL IN SEASON 2!

AND NO NEURODIVERAGENCE DOESNT EXCUSE BAD BEHAVIOR OR BLACK FEATURES BEING MINIMIZED.

2.They should've let a POC (person of color) write Luz cause of how she turned out Personality-wise throughout the series, which I rewatched, along critic videos and yes even in season 3 they decided to make her some shonen wannabe edge lord,(A wannabe Pokemon Goh But more emo.)

Luz's is flawed, as a character & written wise, felt the show didn’t know how to write for POC, cause fans who are another ethnicity might view this, and say oh, where portrayed as this etc, but without our black features or even how where portrayed in society in social norms.

Yes I did a post on her fashion & wardrobe and how it affects a character, boy they got my girl looking a hobo at times. ( and the good so called hair symbolism could’ve made Luz even better.)

ALSO (I may be ranting but hope ya listen)

Hated how they tried to Mary Sue her at certain episodes when she's faced with problems or issues that can affect everyone in dire times, for example,

her willingness to learn magic, which she can be impressionable and wanting Praise for the wrong reasons, but To be loved I Understand.

She is a person wanting acceptance and tolerance ( which that whole wanting to be understood season 3 dialogue could've been for season 1), just to be liked by a new world, would have fleshed out her character more, and given the viewers and her friends reasoning why she does staggering things.

also when she wanted to get to learn magic from her sensei, Knowing Eda knew how unpredictable & reckless at times luz can be, but Eda has her issues. throughout 4 episodes I think its been dragged out she has done stupid things to put others in harm's way even OWLBERT.

3.she can act nonchalant & ambivalent in dire situations, (to the point her friends should've Gotten angry with her actions, GUS AND WILLOW PERIOD) But don't worry all that's being glazed with the Mary Sue trope, discourse, & her being submissive to amity,

which she can take many stabbings and hits for a cause you know all is well with a Good ship. INSERT SARCASM

tragically i do feel she ended up a girl failure, But they Try hard at girl bossing her up, cause she was put in situations where she didn't have dire punishments and consequences. plus excepting a power she had no choice accepting at the season finale,

I know I'm being too optimistic, but I'll still hope this whole thing with Blake Lively will open some people's eyes to how easy it is to fall for engineered smear campaigns. How many women, celebrity or not, have had their images destroyed by someone who they rightfully rejected or pushed back against or...whatever. It's insane how easily and how quickly people will turn on someone when the smear campaign bots get rolling. Even if you didn't like Blake before, for whatever reason, the instant wave of utter loathing that fell on her after the firm started their blackballing was just...insane. No other word for it, really. And people are still parroting the smear campaign's talking points even though it's all been exposed! Still calling her tone-deaf for things she said during PR for that movie, when she was doing exactly what she was forced to do by her contract, all of which is detailed in the lawsuit, all of which was engineered and manipulated to make her look bad. I do want to briefly mention Taika too because I did see some of the sudden hate aimed at her blowback onto him for daring to be her friend and commenting/liking Instagram posts of hers, leading to people calling him an abuse apologist and awful person too, adding on to the pile of completely made up bull dumped all over him. What's going on with his online haters is thankfully not a coordinated PR attack like what happened to Blake and far too many other women who dare to go against a serial sexual predator. That's just idiots following other idiots, but those idiots are the same ones who fall for the smear campaigns every time.

i think people genuinely don’t realize how easy they are to manipulate. we all are. it’s much easier to turn the public against someone (whether it’s because of real mistakes or things that are completely fabricated) than it is to make everyone love them.

and i don’t mean this in the sense of being, like, a contrarian or whatever, but a lot of people are too scared to not agree with whatever the popular opinion is. if everyone else likes or hates something/someone, it’s a lot easier to just go along with liking or hating it too, even if you don’t really know why.

i’ve personally never been the biggest fan of blake, but more for some of the problematic things she’s gotten away with in the past and also because i just don’t really vibe with her. and obviously there are decisions she’s made and things that have come to light about her recently that i think are questionable (making light of a press tour for a movie about domestic violence/using it to push her hair care brand, old interviews of “mean girl” behaviour, etc.). but i don’t hate her and i don’t think she or her husband need to be “cancelled” for being out-of-touch celebrities.

we all know how easy it is for the world to turn against famous women (e.g. anne hathaway, katherine heigl, amber heard, brie larson, even rachel zegler & chappell roan now). and as many of us have seen with the likes of taika waititi, serena williams, and megan thee stallion, the same goes for any person of colour or lgbtq+ person. from the logic of these people, the worst crime you can possibly commit as a minority is being annoying or mean, but any white man in a position of power can get away with abuse/harassment because “he was probably just defending himself.”

what's especially heinous about the new trans drama with TERFs and transphobes targeting the intersex community is not only the jagged line of when one deserves ire in the sand they draw between the willingly transitioning and those born that way but also that they're pretending to protect some "sanctity of womanhood" or what I'll call it for the sake of this rant: femininity.

the sanctity of being the weaker gender because a boon when you are masculine in sports is cheating when you are feminine. the implication in this is that even the strongest Olympic feminine would lose against the weakest Olympic masculine. It's on the same dumb logic as when amateur masculines think they can beat Serena Williams, no matter the strength feminine is always weaker and any show of strength is being Too Masculine. You're enforcing Player 2 Gender and worse you're tipping the bar to Feminine Need Not Apply.

the sanctity of being the pregnant gender. because it's so special right? having your life on the line but your choices still apparently needing to be decided by those who cannot become pregnant because you are feminine and don't know your life or your body or your future the correct way like the masculine. I especially hate the transphobic/TERF woobification of pregnancy like it's superduper special peak femininity moment as if it hasn't been the weapon that it is used against us for 1000s of years. while you glorified it, they went "Look, we've relieved you of your ability to choose when you want to be pregnant because the masculines know best!". again.

the sanctity of being doubted no matter your expertise by any gender because you are feminine. And the kicker is your doubter's gender could be anything. You could be working in this field for 30 years and be the exact same gender but masculinity in the societal voice knows all and they're gonna ask the new amateur or worse the outdated ancient prejudice. femininity is regularly considered lower quality enough to pay less, but not less enough to not pay the same tax %. And despite being an equal tax player, like with pregnancy, you are to cleave to the masculine way of your feminine life. Why expect equal rights? follow directions, feminine.

the sanctity of being the victim. it doesn't matter that there is just as many masculine victims as feminine ones, you're gonna hear about the feminine ones and you're going to roll your eyes or belittle the masculine ones. because being feminine is weak, we all know that! because if we ever let go of the top victim spot we'd have to do something like address how we overvalue domination and sexuality in the masculine in the first place. Because if you're masculine being sexually targeted is "scoring" or being "lucky". But nevermind all that we need to use the victim card to explain why there's a difference in validity points in how the one presumably getting penetrated gets killed when their genitals aren't the same.

And then the sanctity of being not enough: the sanctity of denial. the only thing that I see transwomen and ciswomen share regularly is TERFs and transphobes and tryhards telling them they are not feminine enough for some arbitrary asinine reason. "it's the genitals! but for her it's the chromosomes!""you'll never be a woman because you don't know what it's like to be targeted and a victim!" "You were attacked because something you did, feminine one, you're not a victim!" It's crazy that you don't accept them as women because you're already engaging in history's oldest feminine pasttime: denial for the sake of denying them.

when you are protecting the sanctity of womanhood you are protecting one thing:

the sanctity of inferiority.

Whether you loved them or hated them, no one wanted them to get married in ten minutes on the street. Dan is revealed as Gossip Girl which makes ZERO sense because he sends tips to Gossip Girl and learns stuff from it ALL THE TIME. It’s literally impossible that he was Gossip Girl the whole time. There’s a timeskip and Dan and Serena are getting married, OH cause no one even cares that he’s Gossip Girl and has ruined their lives over and over, so Dan and Serena get married even though they haven’t been together since they were sixteen!! They don’t even like each other at all by season six. Everyone else’s ending is just tragic. Nate’s whole storyline in season one was hating that his life was planned and he’s going to end up like his dad, and he ends up exactly like his dad and he’s in politics despite showing zero interest in it before. Every character didn’t want to end up like their parents and DID by the end

Mulder and Scully rush to find an on-the-run William while the Cigarette Smoking Man pushes forward with his ultimate plan.

1) This finale goes against everything X-Files by leaning way too hard into the supernatural. Scully is having visions; her kid, William, is exploding people with ESP; and the Cigarette-Smoking Man is back after having been exploded in a previous season finale. The Alex Jones comedy pastiche character (played by the Community guy) is somehow still here too. The series ends with William being set in stone as not Mulder’s son, but don’t worry, because Scully is pregnant by him anyway! Also William got shot and fell into a river but survived somehow, but CSM is definitely dead even though he got killed in the exact same way.

2) I can't believe Chris Carter knew Gillian Anderson wasn't going to come back & that this would be the last X-Files ever and he wrote...this

My review of Double or Nothing 2024

Overall PPV Rating- 8.5/10 stars

In-Depth look under the cut.

I'll start with the pre-show matches.

Deonna vs Rosa- 8/10 stars. Really solid match for a pre-show bout. Both Deonna and Rosa got some good spots in. I was sure that Rosa was going to win, but Deonna pulled one out from under her. I'm expecting the fued to continue until maybe a street fight of some sort between them. It was a good opener to a night of action.

The Acclaimed vs Cage of Agony- 7/10 stars. Max Caster my beloved. Loved the rap and the shenanigans as always. Action was chaotic in a good way. Brian Cage never fails to amaze me with his insane build. Dude is a monster. Very entertaining match to watch.

Now onto the Main Card

Roddy vs Will- 9/10 stars. Almost a perfect match! William Ospreay you are allergic to having a bad match. The actions was entertaining and kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time. I got to see Matt Taven be sexy which is always a bonus. (Mr. Taven please call me) I can't wait to see what kind bangers Will is going to put on now that he's champion.

Post-Roddy/Will shenanigans- ADAM COLE BAY BAY. So happy to see my sinster short king back and ready to cause problems. also. MJF YOU SEXY BITCH. Love the new tattoo pookie!! I can't wait to see the post breakup between these two get MESSY.

Bang Bang Gang vs Death Triangle- 8/10 stars. Jay and Pac aka my two fav greasy little bastard men going at it! Great to see Penta and Fenix back in action again! Death Triangle is so cool. The Gunn bros were chaotic lil weasels as well. They are learning from mother Jay White. and JUICE ROBINSON MY GREMLIN MAN!!! WELCOME BACK POOKIE!!

Orange Cassidy v Trent Baretta- 8/10 stars. Emo Orange you are so special to me. My heart hurts seeing them be mean to one another and I might have cried a little bit. Great match between two men that used to be so close! Emotional for everyone.

Toni Storm vs Serena Deeb- 6/10 stars. I didn't pay that much attention to this match tbh. Serena Deeb is boring to watch if you ask me. Girl had no chemistry with Toni. I did enjoy Nigel being a simp on comms though. And seeing Mariah and Toni be gay is always a plus! Most boring match of the night but still a solid one.

Jericho vs HOOK vs Shibata- 5/10 stars. The action in the ring was good. However, TONY KHAN YOU WILL PAY FOR NOT ONLY LETTING CHRIS FUCKING JERICHO KEEP THAT BELT. BUT ALSO MAKING FUCKING SHIBATA TAKE THE PIN AND RUINING BRYAN KEITH FOR ME.

Adam Copeland vs Malakai Black- 9/10 stars. It would have been a perfect match but Malakai lost so. This was a match for the sickos and i ATE IT UP. Blood! Violence! Religious Symbolism!! It had IT ALL. RIP to Adam's knees after jumping off the cage. Also welcome back Grangrel you funky vampire man! The fake-out apot with Brody and Buddy was dope. I got swerved hard with that one. Second best match of the night if you ask me.

Willow vs Mercedes- 7/10 stars. I'm pressed as fuck that Willow lost. The action was solid. You know these girls dont play in the ring. I get that Mercedes is supposed to be a huge star. But my girl Willow got ROBBED. And you take away Kris and Stoke from her??? We can't have nice things in this house.

Swerve vs Christian- 7/10 stars. This was also a solid match. Swerve ddin't get to be nearly as unhinged as i'd of liked. But thats fine. It was fun seeing the shenanigans with Mama Wayne, Nick, and Luchasaurus! Match had me second guessing Swerve winning a couple of times I'll admit.

Anarchy in the Arena- 10/10 stars. BEST MATCH OF THE NIGHT. Oh my god this whole match was INSANE. It baffles me that Darby Allin is even walking after everything that he's gone through then he comes out and does insane shit like this?? Getting hit by a bus? Hanged??? Sir, please seek help. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time!! I'm looking forward to seeing this Bucks gimmick end. I hate it. Cringe. All the spots were great! Had me engaged the whole time.

It's been Drake's modus operandi. He's a bitch for trying to use women to get at the guys he wants to attack. His bitch-made tendencies are fully in the light with this lawsuit bullshit.

Drake doesn’t respect women because he uses them as lyrical target practice and when he’s beefing with a man in this case Kendrick, he acts like scaredy-cat and he’s filing lawsuits over a diss track against him . That’s why not everybody is respecting him anymore. When is the last time you heard somebody file a lawsuit over a diss track? That’s not real hip-hop.

Another incoming long ask about Challengers! Really digging how this love triangle shows the nuances of all three's needs/wants/jealousies/passions.

Like Art wouldn't feel left out if he knew Patrick and Tashi talked about him while having sex or that they are deeply concerned with him quitting the sport altogether. Art doesn't acknowledge that Patrick pulled the chair closer or visited him before Tashi at Stanford. He doesn't see from our eyes how Tashi might sleep with Patrick but chooses to stay with Art and only threatens to leave Art cuz without their shared love of tennis then the relationship is truly dead (tennis is how they met after all and what made them happy). It's twisted but Patrick and Tashi do care for Art despite the cheating stuff bc Art was always supposed to be included. College Art is surprised Tashi is still dating Patrick, meanwhile Tashi and Patrick are rooting for Art because as much as all three are lovers they were admirers of each other's skills.

With Tashi she has a love/hate with both boys. She loves what they can do for her, loves watching good fucking tennis, enjoys the makeout in the room where she leads them to kiss for her entertainment (also cuz she peeped the boy bestie attraction). She also hates that their drive can't match hers even when she's out for the count while they're still in the game. Can only imagine how big of a star Tashi would've been if not for her injury or even if she was a guy therefore having more chances at playing against Patrick and Art in true competitive form. For Art, losing isn't that big of a deal cuz in the end he still married Tashi despite not winning the initial game for her. For Patrick, losing isn't that big of a deal if it's Art who is his opponent playing for keeps. For Tashi, though, losing is a big tragic deal cuz she was a game changer and now it's probably the racist bitch or others like her that she beat out standing in the spot Tashi should've been in. Tashi loves the innocence of Patrick and Art when it comes to playing tennis in its purest form but hates that they don't see the importance of making this sport as big as Michael Jordan did basketball or Serena Williams for tennis, they are supposed to raise the bar and set a new standard and instead Tashi's boys are having a pity party rather than sticking to the plan Tashi was planting seeds to harvest.

Then we have Patrick who wants to keep both Tashi and Art, but both are separate from him as they chose college and it's the same college both are attending. Patrick teases Art and never says how much he loves Art but he shows in his actions. He coaches Art and that's why he can clash with Tashi who technically replaces coaching Art, which is why they butt heads in the car about "letting Art win" and how to do it. Patrick sees himself, worst and best traits, in Tashi and Art. Tashi is the more competitive side while Art is the fun side. Tashi challenges Patrick, seducing him only for him to seduce her later down the line, again a power struggle that's more like a game for them. Art reminds Patrick of being silly, he can't be mad or frowned up at Art, even when calling out Art actively trying to breakup Tashi and Patrick. To Patrick, Tashi crossed the line of cheating Art out of a win, but Patrick never thinks Art crossed the line by - as Tashi put it - "being a bad friend". Patrick likes when Art is sneaky and playing unfair, he tolerates and gets excited about it.

And it's interesting to me that Tashi and Patrick are so headstrong but rely on Art to be there. Patrick misses playing with Art. Tashi recovered with Art by her side. They know Art can be just as manipulative as them, is not as competitive as them, yet Art is the one living their dreams of playing good tennis since Patrick is broke and Tashi is forever injured. Art never had the heart they did but somehow he is considered the best, but tennis isn't fun if he doesn't have both Tashi and Patrick watching him/playing against him cuz they're the only ones that mattered.

Listen friend idk what else you want me to say except your brain is so big and this take is literally 10/10. You’re so right !!! This is exactly why the throuple works because they all need each other and the couples (for example, Art and Tashi’s marriage) doesn’t work if the third isn’t there. It falls flat because it’s incomplete.

maria sharapova/serena williams - this is the pinnacle of female sports rivalry to me and honestly nothing in the current wta even comes close (i think iga and aryna may have this rivalry in the future but i think both iga and aryna will never be as outspoken as serena and maria at press conferences). also i love how serena compared her and maria's relationship to 'those guys from challengers' which probably has... implications that she probably didn't consider lmao

That Lily post you reblogged has me thinking, and it’s honestly kind of insane how categorically bad almost all of the parents on Gossip Girl are, even the ones we’re supposed to like!! If we take all of the various anecdotes from Serena and Eric seriously, then Lily - despite otherwise being an enjoyable character - is nothing short of a negligent parent. And variations of the same can be said for most of the other parents with significant storylines!

Like, as much as the show tries to gloss over it later on, Eleanor’s casual cruelty towards Blair and the seemingly intentional provocation of her bulimia despite KNOWING how severe it was throughout season one was actually genuinely awful. Harold, while more sympathetic given his backstory, still chose to relinquish primary custody of his daughter to move halfway across the world and barely see her, even though she was a 15 year old struggling with a serious mental illness. Alison, despite being oddly beloved in this corner of the fandom, is honestly just as bad - she too fucks off except with the added pretense of it being a temporary separation, and then makes little effort to maintain any contact with her kids outside of holidays, leaving Rufus to effectively single parent. And Rufus, despite being the most involved and least “objectionable” parent on the show, still consistently treats his son significantly better than his daughter, to the degree that said daughter at one point muses that her dad “basically hates her” and seems to believe it.

And that’s without getting into William van der Woodsen, Bart Bass, or the Archibalds, who were actual villains!!! Like it’s no wonder that all of the kids grew into fucked up adults when that was the standard of better parenting on the show.

i originally wrote that i had very little to add but then all of this happened! lmao. but still: you're spot on, anon.

one thing i will say is that wrt alison - she does get quite a bit of leeway in this corner of the fandom, hm? i'm not saying that i hate her or that i think she's as bad, as, say, bart bass (but literally who is), but i think what gets me most about her is that she leaves and upon briefly returning, doesn't let there be any space for the fact that the lives of her children have changed while she's been gone. when jenny tells alison she would have been able to go if she wasn't here, it may come off a little bratty, but it's not hard to sympathize with for me. because she's not wrong! her mom has been gone and now that she's back she's supposed to not have changed at all or stop caring about the things she cares about? (note: i know allison was upset about jenny missing her art show for the debutante ball, but it seems like it speaks to a larger issue of allison not liking who jenny has started to become while she's been gone... even though she's the one that left and jenny's allowed to have interests that deviate from hers.) i think the reason alison gets more grace from some parts of the fandom is that we see way less of her than most of the other parents, so there's room to imagine she's a Perfect Mom (TM) whenever jenny and dan go visit her on the weekends or holidays or when jenny leaves for hudson. but i doubt that's the case. (nor should it be! no one's perfect and i tend to prefer characters who are more complicated than that. but the idea that she's this flawless ideal of a parental figure seems... strange, to me.)

there's something really interesting about the lines being drawn between who the 'good' and 'bad' parents are. because I fully believe that lily and eleanor are on a pretty similar level to the archibalds, yet the narrative turns more in their favor. we still see their bad sides but we get their perspectives more and are Supposed to sympathize with them to some degree. the show never quite shies away from lily's negligence (the way it does from being consistent about eleanor's emotional abuse toward blair tbh), but it also never fully condemns her for it. the narrative wants us to forgive her, i think, in a way that it doesn't really care if we forgive, say anne. there are absolutely parents that are designated firmly in the villain category (#mafia boss burt bass circa season 6), but none of them come out looking to be shining examples of heroes either.

i think the show WANTS rufus to look that way but he just... doesn't. i don't hate him or think he's an absolute monster, but it's incredibly frustrating for him to get put on a pedestal (more by the fandom than the show itself, i'd say, though it depends on the circles you run in). a thought i had when i was trying to wrangle my thoughts in response to this ask jdjsjsjs was that... idk it almost seems like, prior to season one, rufus was used to getting to be The Fun Parent? and part of what alison leaving triggers is him having to figure out how to have a more authoritative role in his children's lives while still showing his care for them. and he gets a lot of that wrong! which makes sense. i think that when you're not used to being the authority and you start to try, you might hold on too tight and be harsher than you mean to be at first. which is what he does! especially with jenny. and that makes sense! i don't have a problem with that in and of itself - it's that it doesn't really get better? he refuses to see jenny's point of view throughout every conflict they have and never really tries to have empathy for her struggling to find her role in the ues (despite insisting, according to the pilot, that the only way both his children will be succesful is going to private school) or for her dreams of being a designer. it's hard not to chalk up his often controlling and judgmental attitude toward jenny as misogny (on his part, maybe, on the writers' part, definitely) because he DOES tend to make more) because he does tend to give dan more grace. but if I'M trying to show any grace, i think part of it likely stems from insecurities and fears from his own musical aspirations - he knows what it cost him and that he's not considered much more than a washed-up musician at this point, that he had to choose between his family and his music and he's chosen them, full stop. he knows dan is passionate about writing, but dan's more cautious, more hesitant, less sure of his craft or how much value he puts on it over everything else. (there are multiple story arcs about this!) i think jenny scares him a lot more because she's burning with pure ambition. she's not hesitant or unsure about it; she knows what she wants and she's going to risk whatever she needs to get it. i think i would be remiss to act like that doesn't play some role in how suffocating their relationship becomes.

Lauren James shouldn’t be harassed online for that, but I think discussion about maturity, mentality, & consistency is still fair play. They have been talking points that have followed her for a long time already, but you’ve just done that in front of the whole world.

Women of color, and especially black women, have been overly criticized and racially discriminated against in sport and other public arenas for being ‘emotional’ for a long time (the Serena Williams vs Naomi Osaka US Open final comes to mind). Also not to mention the FOX commentator calling the Nigeria team ‘belligerent’ because wtf. And I fear this will open the door for a lot of hate being sent her way, especially by the British press.

Though I’m also seeing a lot of people saying it was just a mistake which doesn’t sit right either. Things we do intentionally are not mistakes. That was a choice. You can call it a split second choice all you want. Still deliberate.

Going from having the best game of your life against China to being so frustrated by Nigeria’s man-marking that you fully use someone else’s body to get up and step on them as you’re leaving…if she’d gotten a red for a bad tackle or something that would be one thing, but you just can’t treat people like that because you’re frustrated.

And making your teammates, who have already played a ton of minutes due to lack of rotation (rip Keira), play down a player for 30+ minutes. Extremely thoughtless in the waning minutes of a high stakes game.

I really hope she takes this seriously and finds a way to get a handle on it, because she could be a top name in the game for a long time.

Deeply frustrating to see that from her because people just got a taste of what she’s really capable of in the China game and the ‘not a team player’ allegations could have been put to bed in this tourney.

Also didn’t love the post-game ‘she’s the sweetest person’ from Wiegman…there needs to be a balance here between blowing this out of proportion resulting in online abuse/harassment & taking this seriously by not not brushing it off as a mistake because she was tired & inexperienced.

This type of thing happens, with some regularity, in this game and in all sports. People get frustrated and do something stupid. But if you want to be a top player, you have to know where the line is, and you have to take better care of yourself mentally so that you don’t get in those headspaces in the first place. Especially in big games.

I say all this as a Chelsea hater, but there’s no denying how skilled and talented she is. Truly could be a game changer for England. Her future is still bright, but definitely an interesting/potentially big moment in her career. I think how she bounces back from this will be very telling.

sorry if this is weird but wanted to jump in and give my thoughts on your tags on that arty ask!!! junior markets and ahl markets are veryyy different vibes imo like. a lot of junior markets — esp the ones you named — are embedded within their communities and have extremely active booster clubs along with billet families that are really all-in! and in some cases, junior teams are located in towns where they are one of the main family-friendly, budget-friendly activities available when it comes to entertainment. i think it makes for an atmosphere that’s conducive to social media engagement + there’s also the intrigue of top prospects that’s lacking a little in the a and definitely in the coast, so passionate nhl fans will also interact more! i feel like with the two pro feeder leagues it often feels a bit more impersonal; they tend to be in bigger cities and are less established as a key part of the community. like your neighbors are not housing these players you know? from a media career standpoint, it’s great to work in the a but the chl is a very viable option as well and generally a better landing place than any other league besides the a and the national!!

YES!!!!!! 1000% they have different vibes, im from Ottawa and while i didnt grow up in a hockey family (neither playing, nor fans) i have been to many many 67s games (our OHL team, they used to [maybe still do?] give out tickets to them through schools in ottawa), and i have been to exactly no B-Sens games (the nearest AHL team, because... fuck you bellville you know what you did [be boring lmao])

specifically what i was referring to was like, the types of interactions i saw (i only looked on instagram, and only checked a handful of AHL and CHL teams), because while the few that I looked at had similar follower counts/likes, the CHL teams had more comments, and discussions in the comments, and the types of social media posts were also very different.

the CHL teams had more interactions with players, they are doing tiktok trends, lots of candid videos taken by players joking around (the pats instagram page is like 40% just players pointing their phones at each other on the bus) etc etc, it has a more relaxed feel, the players are joking around, they seemed more human. whereas AHL teams just post end of game graphics, occasional highlights, and those videos where the players are walking by going to practice and are asked a random question (the laziest, and my most hated type of team social media post [especially the ones where they ask them whos your favorite female athlete and ALL of them say serena williams like....???? do you not realize that your players inabilities to name more than one woman makes them look stupid]) and in all of the AHL posts them seemed.... not human like the CHL teams did.

theory: the AHL players are trying to act super buttoned up/mature in hopes they get called up quickly, and the CHL players are just happy they aren't currently in algebra class.

and i 100% agree that the community surrounding the teams is going to be stronger with CHL teams then AHL teams, due to the while *gestures broadly* but i feel like one of the easiest ways to bridge that gap would be though social media, like dear everyone who works on the social media presence of AHL teams.... show me the boys!!! show me the silly lil guys i wanna know about the silly lil guys on the AHL teams!!! show me them!!! social media is an amazing tool to engage with fans and build a bigger community, and i feel like CHL teams are excelling in it, and AHL teams are being stupid for not using it as such.

anyways, I am very interested in social media from like... a "ive been chronically online since 2014 and have seen the rise and fall of countless careers" sorta way....??? like i don't want to ever work in a way where i need to rely on social media, or have posting on it be apart of my job description (you can catch me in a dusty back room with my objects™️ doing my paperwork™️)..... but because i am forever a hater i need to put my six cents on literally everything.

Riiiiiiiiiiiiing

The bell woke me up at, I rolled over to see Dawn already dressed and packing her bag for the day, piplup was jumping around on her bed.

"What time is it?" I asked sleepily.

"Oh, Y/n, you're up! It's 7 am so you better get ready before you're late. Class starts at 9" Dawn said.

I got out of bed, got dressed, brushed my teeth, etc. After I was ready Dawn called piplup back into it's pokeball and we went to the cafeteria where we got our breakfast. We finished at 8:30, so we still had half an hour to get to class.

"Looks like we have home room together" Dawn observed.

"Cool, where's the classroom?" I asked.

"Here" she said pointing.

We left to find our first class, we were glad we had the extra time since this was our first time and we wouldn't be late if we got lost. We found the room in 20 minutes and were about to go in when I saw someone behind us.

"Serena!" I called to her.

She came over "Good morning Y/n, how are you?" she asked.

"I'm good, how about you?" I answered.

Serena sighed.

"What is it?" I asked.

"I have to share a dorm room with Misty" she confessed.

"Oh....." I said, that could be a problem. Serena and Misty already hated each other enough as it is, I didn't know how they would handle being stuck in the same dorm.

"But let's not think about that" Serena said. "It's our first day of school, we should be complaining about all the homework the teachers will probably give us, not my terrible roommate"

"Misty isn't terrible" I said.

"Um, Y/n..." said Dawn.

"Oma, I'm sorry, I forgot to introduce you guys!" I exclaimed. "Serena, this is Dawn, my roommate. Dawn, this is Serena, my friend since elementary school"

"Nice to meet you Dawn!" Serena said.

"Nice meeting you too Serena" Said Dawn, then she turned to me. "So, um, who's Misty?"

"Right here" said a voice from behind us.

"Oh, good morning Misty. How long have you been standing there?" I asked.

"Just got here" Misty explained "How was your first night? Was your roommate nice?"

"It was awesome! And my roommate is amazing, she's right here" I said gesturing at Dawn.

"Dawn Berlitz" Dawn said holing out her hand. Misty shook it.

"Misty Williams, good meeting you Dawn" said Misty shaking her hand.

"What's so bad about her?" Dawn whispered to me.

"Nothing!" I whispered back. "Why would you think that?"

"Well Serena didn't seem to like her very much" Dawn explained.

I nodded "They've always hated each other, but they're both really great. If they weren't, then they wouldn't be my best friends" I said.

"Why do they hate each other?" Dawn asked.

"I don't know" I admitted.

"You don't know?!" said Dawn, almost forgetting to whisper. "But didn't you say you were their friend?"

"I am, and no, I have no idea why they hate each other. If I knew I might be able to help put a stop to it" I said.

The bell rang.

"Well, that's the bell, we should probably go in" said Serena.

We all went inside and found seats as close together as possible. Serena on one side, Misty on the other, with me and Dawn in the middle. Thank goodness this school doesn't have seating charts, otherwise, knowing they're luck, Misty and Serena would probably have to sit next to each other. At least this way there was some space between them.

The Prof came in to start the class. "Hello class, my name is Professor Sy—" he was cut off by someone running through the door.

"Sorry I'm late Professor!" said the boy who just came in.

"It's fine, um, Ash right?" the professor said.

He nodded.

"Well you can go find a seat where ever you can find room, I think there's one beside Zoey" said our teacher.

Ash went across to the seat beside Zoey, which just happened to be the one right in front of me, I could already see Serena and Misty freaking out. Damn it, why? I thought as the prof started the class.

"As I was saying, I am professor Sycamore..." he said, but my attention was on Misty and Serena.

Serena grabbed my arm and shook it a little bit "Ash is here! Can you believe it? Ash it here!" she squealed.

"I can't believe this! This is awesome! Ash is here!" said Misty doing fist pumps beside Dawn who looked very confused.

Ash was sitting right in front of me, and I didn't know how he didn't notice the two crazy girls having a party over his existence right behind him. I was about to tell them to quiet down , but professor Sycamore beat me to it.

"Serena. Misty. Please no talking in my class" he said.

"Sorry prof" they said at the same time.

"Ash is here!" Serena whispered beside me.

I sighed. Great. Ash was here. Yet another reason for my two best friends to fight. I can't believe this. Why? Just why?

In the cafeteria.

"Wow, the first day of school is great so far!" said Serena. She had barley touched her sandwich since she was so busy talking about how much she loved it here.

"I can't believe Ash is here" Misty happily sighed.

"Hey, you two are finally agreeing on something!" I smiled.

They both huffed and turned away from each other.

"Ash is something everyone can agree on" Serena said.

"I think I'm missing something, who's Ash?" asked Dawn.

"The boy who came in late for prof Sycamore's class" I said.

"What's so important about him?" Dawn asked.

Misty glared at her for daring to question Ash's importance.

"Uh, I think Serena and Misty should explain" I said, I didn't want another 'Ash is so great' speech, but they could probably do a better job at explaining the situation.

"Well for starters he's sweet, and kind, and he loves pokemon" Serena started.

"Not to mention he's a great battler" Misty continued.

"Basically he's perfect" Serena finished.

Dawn still looked confused, I knew I'd have to step in since Serena and Misty were now both stuck in la la land and we wouldn't get anything else out of them.

"He's the guy that Misty and Serena have both had a crush on since second grade" I said and Dawn let out an 'oh'

"Is that why they fight so much?" she asked.

"No, they hated each other before they met him" I said.

"Wow, no wonder you hate him" Dawn said.

"What?! I don't hate him. Why would you think that?" I wondered.

"You were glaring daggers at the back of his head, like, really hard. I'm surprised you didn't burn a hole in it. I was wondering why, but now I know he's one of the reason's your friends are fighting" Dawn said.

"Well, I do wish he wasn't going to this school since Misty and Serena will have yet another reason to fight, but it's not like it's his fault. I don't hate him" I said.

"Could have fooled me" Dawn mumbled loud enough for me to hear.

I sighed "Come on, we should eat something before lunch is over" I said taking a bite of my wrap.

Me, Dawn Serena, and Misty were in our dorm after the last class of the day, talking about school and other things.

"So Y/n, you know there's a school dance coming up, right?" Dawn said out of no where.

"What? I didn't know about this. How did you find out?" I asked.

"It says so on the schools website. Serena, Misty, tell me I'm not the only one who knows about this?" said Dawn.

"I didn't know either" said Serena.

"I did" Misty said.

"You did?" I asked.

"Yeah, they have one every year two months after the first day to celebrate the new school year. You would know that if you had checked the school's website" Misty explained, shooting a look at Serena.

"You realize that Y/n didn't know about it either, right?" Serena reminded.

"Um, who do you want to go with?" asked Dawn trying to prevent conflict, I could tell she was doing it for my sake.

"Ash" Serena and Misty said at the same time, should have seen that coming.

The two turned and glared at each other. "What do you mean, why would Ash go with an unsophisticated tomboy like you?" Serena said to Misty.

"Well at least I don't spend three hours in the bathroom every morning gazing at myself in the mirror" Misty shot back.

"Excuse me?!" exclaimed Serena angrily.

Oh no, I thought. This is bad.

"Hey Gary, I felt like someone was watching me in prof Sycamore's class" I said.

"That's weird, are you sure you're not just imagining things?" Gary asked.

"Maybe..." I said, I didn't think so though. Just then, a sound came from my bag.

"What was that?" asked Gary looking around.

"Oh, right" I said, I unzipped my bag and Pikachu came out.

"Ash, why do you have a Pikachu in your bag?" Gary asked.

"You see, Pikachu doesn't like to go in his pokeball, and since pokemon aren't allowed outside they're pokeballs in the halls, I have to keep him in my bag" I explained.

"Is that even allowed?" asked Gary.

"I talked to the principle and he said they could make an exception" I said.

"Ok, if you say so" said Gary.

(Dawn's pov)

Me and Y/n sat on the bed listening to the two girls shoot insults back and forth. I looked over at Y/n, it was obvious that they were hurting her more than they were hurting each other.

"Ok, stop, that's enough!" I said coming between them. "Can I talk to you both?" I asked before pulling them into the bathroom.

"We need to talk about something" I said.

"Wait" Misty interrupted.

"What is it?" I asked.

"We should give Serena a few minutes to look at herself to make sure her hair is still just as perfect as it was five minutes ago before you start" Misty said.

"What did you say?!" Serena exclaimed.

"Do you need hearing aids grandma? I said—" I cut Misty off before she could finish.

"No, stop it, this is exactly what I wanted to talk to you about" I said.

"The fact that Serena needs hearing aids?" Misty asked.

"No, all of your fighting" I said before Serena could respond.

"What do you mean?" asked Serena.

"I mean that you should stop. You're hurting Y/n more than each other" I said.

"I would love to stop, but somebody is making it very hard" Serena said.

"Excuse me? Who called me a tomboy" Misty snapped.

"That's not an insult, that's a fact" Serena said calmly.

"You see? This is exactly what I mean! Look, I know it's probably to much to ask both of you to stop fighting entirely and become best friends. I don't know why you hate each other, but I do know you won't be able to resolve it in one day. But could you at least try to keep it together in front of Y/n? She's your friend, and she really doesn't like it when you fight" I said.

They glared at each other.

"Please?" I asked.

Serena sighed. "I'll try for Y/n" she said.

"Fine" Misty grumbled. "But this doesn't mean I like you, or that I'm even going to be nice to you. This is just for Y/n"

"I couldn't agree more" said Serena.

"Ok, can we go outside and you guys won't fight?" I said.

They both nodded stiffly. We all went out of the bathroom and we saw Y/n still sitting on her bed playing with her Pikachu and my piplup.

"Hey, what took you so long?" she asked.

"Oh, nothing" I said and we all started talking again. Serena and Misty weren't fighting apart from the occasional glare.

I sighed in relief. Crisis averted, for now.
