I just saw someone on twitter arguing that you can’t call gilmore girls a cult success because it ran for 7 season and 150 episodes. They say that makes it a regular hit, and I think this is actually a perfect example of why people are so frustrated with tv now. Gilmore Girls was absolutely not a huge hit when it was on, and it still got 7 seasons because it was a cult favorite. It had a devoted fanbase, but not a large one.

I just pulled up some random old TV ratings that had it at 105th out of 125 for the week. Another week had it at 125th out of 168 - in the orange danger of cancellation category. And yet it got 7 seasons because it was on a small network with low expectations and low budgets, and it had just enough of an audience to keep going for 7 years.

TV is just sooooo different now. We don’t have so many low rated cult classics getting 7 seasons like this anymore. It's mostly just the big hits and even those are rarely getting nearly that many episodes.

I've seen some discourse lately about whether or not Rory and Paris's first aid kit deserved to win at the Chilton fair. Some people say it was really innovative and some people say it was too simple, but I think the school probably didn't care that much in general. They most likely picked the first thing which made sense to them and disregarded the first aid kit because you can get it in the school. They weren't going to spend time thinking through logistics of marketing or if the alarm actually worked or not.

Jimmy told Spinner that “Rick wasn’t that bad” even though he put Terri in a coma. Even if he really was trying to turn a new leaf, where is his loyalty to his friend? Spinner hated Rick for him abusing Terri and didn’t want him around. That shows how loyal Spinner was to Terri and how he truly had a soft spot for her. Sperri Supremacy!

One of the most telling things about Rory and Christopher’s relationship to me is in season 5 when he doesn’t know how Rory takes her coffee.

Coffee is such a big part of Rory and Lorelai’s life and it’s something that we see them with almost every episode, and yet her father still doesn’t know how she takes it! Because he never sees her, and he never properly tries to talk to her. A little thing but I love it!
