I am slowly losing my mind over the shift towards video as the default media format.
I do not find this to be an efficient way to absorb information. I am bored and distracted by the time the largely unnecessary introduction is over. I can't use ctrl+f to find the specific information I'm looking for. If there are instructions to follow, I don't want to have to constantly pause and back up to the part I need.
At least give me a fucking transcript.

and for my final sermon to the choir of the night: my eternal bewilderment that many people insist Katniss didn’t love Peeta in the first book, that she was simply trying to survive
she. did not. need him. to survive.
she chose to save him. she chose to die with him. she would have died with him, had not Seneca changed his mind. yes, even though Peeta told her to take the victory. yes, even though she still had Prim and her mother to care for. living or dying by Peeta Mellark’s side superseded that.
that’s the entire point.
okay. meeting adjourned.

liveblogging You now i guess for Reasons.
actually what this first episode does well is establish joe as a creep right away. on the surface, to other people, he says the right things, telling coworker that beck was just being nice and not flirting with him, but his inner monologue gives him away entirely. like he Very Earnestly believes that her not wearing a bra and then REACHING FOR A BOOK is trying to get him to notice. and that her lack of curtains is a desperate cry for attention on her part. (note; i hate how people take these things that are obviously supposed to be joe, as unreliable narrator, creepily project intent on beck, are often by fandom taken at face value. beck not having curtains could be for any NUMBER of reasons, but the out of universe reason is because the creators need it to be easier for joe to stalk her.)
like, outside of Everything, what makes joe so especially dangerous is that on the surface, he Seems like a decent guy. quiet, polite, shows interest in beck’s life, and at first, someone who doesn’t Know him could probably mistake him for someone who respects women. but when he’s alone, his thoughts belie his predatory actions. (this is what’s dangerous btw about “nice guys”. their entitlement is a slippery slope. joe is a Somewhat exaggerated version, but honestly? i don’t have an exact number, but i’m willing to bet plenty of guys who ended up murdering their gfs were probably described once as nice guys who should be given a chance.)
#and no this is not an ‘all men are bad’ post#i’m not for bio essentialism in any capacity#this is very specifically about a culture that normalizes and justifies predatory white cishet men who’ve been taught they’re Owed#women’s love#and then very specifically do harm because of that#like!! that is the point of netflix you!#this watvh is gonna make me angry lmao

this show is so funny. they’re like “dan is so evil for writing all these awful things about his friends…..” meanwhile if you pause to read the articles he’s releasing it’s literally just him describing the things they’ve done. like you guys chose to do that sorry he’s being #real

speaking my truth: i know ted from himym is like, actually not a very good either, but it is BAFFLING to me when people think barney is better. the man who REGULARLY seeks out emotionally vulnerable women to sleep with them, lies to them about who he is, sexually harasses them, etc. and yes i know it's because he has 'character development' or whatever but barney treating the One Woman he happens to be 'in love' with at the time (robin, nora, quinn) marginally better than he does other women does not cancel out that in general he's a misogynistic creep w/consent issues galore throughout his 'conquests'. (i would also argue that he doesn’t treat most of them very well either.) nor does the fact that he has a daughter, which causes him to shame girls he was Just trying to hit on (and i know this is supposed to be a part of his character development and yeah don't sleep with the girls so much younger than you but also don't shame them for what they're wearing or wanting to go out and have casual sex, what the hell) all the while /never once saying the name of the mother of his child, instead referring to her as a number./
and again this is not me saying ted is better than barney. he Often does the same shit, especially as the seasons go on, but acts above it and thinks of himself as a 'nice guy'. this isn't me saying he's good, it's they're both awful lmao.
#to me himym can be a fun show only if you understand it as a group of villain protagonist friends#himym#anti barney stintson#ig#anti ted mosby#and before anyone says it: i know the idea that trd is overexagerating some of barney’s faults is a popular one#but A) if we take everything being shown in the story as inherently twisted when there are Often scenes not shown in-universe as told from#ted’s pov#then i don’t know what the point of watching the show at all is#b) ted IS an unreliable narrator sometimes but the show often goes out of its way to Point Out when that’s affecting the story

catching up to you and i get what people mean when they say they like endings where villains win but
in this current political climate, i don’t Want the white cishet misogynistic-stalker-abuser-murderer to win. like i’m not saying there couldn’t be a way to do that that is meaningful and still condemns it (pointing out the ridiculous nature of this guy getting away with everything) but!!! personally, given Everything, i feel like a much more satisfying and hopeful ending (which i think people are in sore need of rn tbh) would be to see that guy Lose.

also, another thing I noticed in 01x05 (is that how you write season and episode??? I hope it is)
usually, Arthur is red and Merlin is blue. basically
but in the first scene where we meet Lancelot, he is wearing a blue shirt and Merlin is in a red shirt and doesn't have his blue neckerchief. and after they escape the Griffin, we get a shot where they are sitting next to each other and it's so obvious that Lancelot is blue and Merlin is red
idk what it means and if it was intentional, but yeah

i know this conversation has been had to death and back, but i just don’t understand how people think nine and rose were anything less than romantically attracted to each other.
their first date was chips after he showed her the end of the world. as much as i hate moffat’s weird needlessly over sexualized writing, they still spent the entirety of their time in the middle of war-torn london on the brink of being bombed by nazi’s discussing their sexual desires. she literally turned herself into an omnipotent, omnipresent goddess and committed genocide just to ensure the doctor’s safety. HE KISSED HER. ON THE MOUTH. JUST BECAUSE HE WANTED TO. BECAUSE HE COULD.
“she only fell in love with him after he regenerated cause he was younger and more attractive” WRONG. she didn’t even like ten when he first appeared. she begged for nine to come back. her attraction to the doctor as ten didn’t come to fruition until he woke up and she saw him size up and fight the sycorax because that’s when she realized he really was still the doctor, even if he did have a different body. it was never about what he looked like to rose, she only loved him for who he is.

RECENT comments on a youtube video showing the scene where she literally gets murdered and they are not exceptions
i never kept up with you after s1 because as good as it was i could not deal with the way people online would do ANYTHING to justify the (intentionally!!! were people missing the point or something) misogynistic abusive stalker murderer villain protagonist because he was played by a hot actor (who ALSO hates the character, as he fucking should, he knows what the story is about!!), including acting like his victims deserved it.
my girl beck did NOT deserve what happened to her, and this fandom was sooo weird about it. was she perfect?? no!! guess what! there are no such thing as perfect victims and she shouldn’t have had to be for people to see that what joe did to her before LITERALLY murdering her was fucking horrifying, holy shit
#netflix you#guinevere beck#like hello?#‘beck cheated’ a) that is not a fucking justification to kidnap and murder her#b) HE WAS STALKING HER THE WHOLE DAMN TIME#the only reason they were dating for her to cheat in the first place was down ti manipulation on his part!!!#c) she cheated with her therapist who was taking advantage of her emotional vulnerability#like I’m not saying she’s perfect but that’s not the point fucking come on
