I never for a moment interpreted the ending where Solas and Lavellan journey off into the Fade together as anything but hopeful.

The Inquisitor has been the Hero Who Saved the World for the last decade, and now she’s continuing that work. She’s not abandoning her duty. She’s venturing into the realm of pure magic to heal the Blight. Solas being there is just an enjoyable side benefit. Why can’t she save the day, get married to her true love, then head off on her next adventure? Heroes do those things all the time.

The game also is incredibly vague—and sure it’s implied they are going to the Fade Prison, which is the Black City—and Solas says it’ll be terrible… but he’s Mr. Grim and Fatalistic. Don’t listen to him. Lavellan responds that it won’t be terrible. It’s the Fade. You can shape it. It’s like the land of lucid dreaming. It will literally not be terrible if they are together. They’ll heal the Blight and help the Titans and go on many weird Fade adventures.

Again. It’s the Fade! It’s like the best sandbox for creating what comes next for them. They could totally spend all the time they’d like exploring Fade World, then return to the real world and find out only like… an afternoon has passed. Or I’m sure Dorian—after giving them a respectful amount of time for their Honeymoon—uses that magic knife to cut his way in and bring Lavellan an eluvian to use to visit him and her other friends and family whenever she wants. It’s not like they’re trapped forever. It’s left very open-ended. Have a little whimsy! Believe in true love that lasts forever and does not wane no matter the years that pass! Let them have a happily ever after. Why not. It’s fun.

Gosh do you ever have like. Two characters doomed by the narrative. Not doomed to die, I mean like two characters who would've been unstoppable as friends, but were doomed from the start to fall in love with each other, mess up their romantic relationship horribly by saying everything wrong, and eventually having a terrible breakup even though they both still care about each other deeply? And they just didn't know any better?

Help this dynamic has me brainrotting.

I meant to post this a lot sooner but I genuinely forgot; anyway, this fic isn't completely canon to the timeline, it's mainly just self indulgent. Tw! THIS FIC CONTAINS BLOOD, VIOLENCE, DEATH, AND CRINGE. Once again if you know me irl or off of tumblr, no you don't. Just pretend you never saw this.

This was the end, Alex lost. Even after all his efforts Tim beat him, stabbing him in the neck for the horrible atrocities he had committed while under the influence of the operator. Now, here he is, lying on the floor of the college building; as he's bleeding out he thinks back to the one he truly cared about, even under the influence of the operator.

His one true love, Kestin. He tried so hard to save him, even managing to isolate him from the source of the problem and everyone else, even going as far as to slightly distance himself, as to not let him become infected with the sickness. But, Alex could only protect him for so long. He knew the end was inevitable but he never wanted to think that when it came to his lover. Alexs' mind wanders to past memories, remembering the summer before everything went down; God.. everything was so normal back then. 

He and Kestin were on a nice little date, walking along the beach. Neither of them planned on swimming; they weren't very outdoorsy, Alex would much rather spend his time working on his laptop and Kestin prefers to play videogames, Alex occasionally looking up a walk through and giving his boyfriend hints as to what to do. They were talking about their plans for the future. "what do you plan to do after we graduate?" Kestin asked, curious about his partners after college plans.

"I'm probably just going to find an apartment and start trying to make a career as a director." Alex seemed to have most of his life already planned out. Kestin liked that about him, he was alway able to keep Kestin on track as well. "That makes sense, I might become a writer but I'm not sure." Kestin smiled, he was never really good at making plans for the future; in all fairness, he never expected to make it as long as he did. "That sounds like I'd fit you perfectly, you are very creative." Alex was not always good at encouragement, but he tries so hard for his boyfriend. 

"Aww thank you, that really means a lot to me. Do you think we'll move in together?" Kestin asked, he'd been trying to hint to Alex that he wanted to live with him for months but he'd usually be met with confusion. "It's very likely, I do have the intentions of marrying you one day." Kestin stopped walking and Alex froze, as if he hadn't meant to say what he did. "You want to marry me one day?" Kestin looked a bit nervous, not because he doesn't love Alex, he just.. is afraid that Alex might be joking.

"Well.. of course I do, I can't imagine a future without you." Alex stood infront of Kestin. "And, well, I was going to wait until we got back to my dorm but," Alex gets down on one knee and pulls a small box out of his pocket. "Kestin, will you marry me?" Alex looked at Kestin, Kestin was quickly in tears and hugging him. "Yes! Yes! Yes! Oh my gosh yes!" Kestin was happier than ever as Alex slid the ring onto his finger. Nothing could ruin this moment for them and nothing could ruin their love. 

And, then it starts to rain, heavy downpour. Kestin is laughing and Alex is trying to keep Kestin from getting wet as they run to the car, "That felt like something straight out of a teen movie!" Kestin held onto his arm, all giddy. "I certainly did." Alex starts up the car and drives them both back to campus. That night was one of the last happy normal nights that they had.

Which brings up back to the present, where were we? Ah, yes, Alex is bleeding out. His last thought as he slowly passes away is of his fiance, he closes his eyes for the last time. But yet somehow from just above his face he hears a familiar voice.

"Alex... Alex.. come on open your eyes." It's Kestins voice, Alexs eyes open and his face to face with his lover, Alexs head is resting on his thighs, he's smiling down at him looking so happy to see him. But, how could he be so happy? Doesn't he hate Alex for everything he did? "Shhh, it's okay, honey. I'm here, I still love you and I'm ready to spend the rest of eternity with you if you so wish." Alex hadn't even realized that he was crying as Kestin kissed his forehead and held him. "I'm so sorry for everything." Alex sat.up and held his partner close to him.

"I know, and I already forgive you, although I'm a bit sad that we didn't get to have our wedding day." Kestin kept it light hearted as he cupped Alex's cheeks, letting Alex melt into him. "Brian and Jay are here too by the way." Kestin nodded his head as he pointed behind him. Brian was sitting there kind of glaring at Alex, Jay also doesn't look too happy to see him. 

"Oh, uhh hey guys." Alex said awkwardly, "Kestin filled us about what happened, doesn't mean we forgive you though, we just won't cause issues." Brian spoke up after an uncomfortably long silence. "It'd just be counterproductive seeing as we'll be here for the rest of time." Jay added, Kestin smiled at them all. I guess this is their version of a happily ever after and everyone's story can finally come to an end.

I didn't expect this post to do half as well as it did. (Considering I just come on here ranting half the time.)

Since the interpretation of Kenpachi and Unohana's relationship seems to vary amongst the bleach fan base...

Many people -myself included- seem to view it as romantic (bordering on sadomasochistic, in my opinion) and love the intricacies in their 'love story'. To me, every story in fiction is a love story. (Or at least begins because of a love between two or more people.) The greatest fights and complications all stem from love(just look at berserk).

Why am I mentioning this? Because Kenpachi would've never had true meaning in life unless he met Unohana. His meeting with the first Kenpachi led him to meet the most important people in life, Yachiru, Ikkaku, and Yumichika. And there's no greater love than that which you would name your soul after...

And here's where the divide amongst people in the bleach fandom happens,,, many people seem to think that their relationship is something akin to a mother-son dynamic more than lovers. And (maybe I'm just too caught up in kenuno to see them as anything else than lovers but), I disagree.

I can see where people might get confused and draw that conclusion since Kenpachi named Yachiru after Unohana. And since Unohana is seen as 'motherly', then it's only right then their relationship is something of a parent-child relationship? Right? Nope.

I definitely don't agree, because as someone who is a fan of the mentor-mentee romance trope I can appreciate kenuno to the fullest. There will never be anything more romantic to me than baring your soul to someone, naming it after that same person, and then having them die and past off their title to you.

Is this something I would like to experience? Maybe. Anyways, this has been my TED Talk for this week. Thank you for listening. I only had to come back because too many people seem to comment that "unohana is a mother to kenpachi" under wayyy too many posts.

Unohana and Kenpachi's relationship needs a lot more spotlight.

Like this man was so changed(looked up to her) that he shaped a part of his soul and named it after her.

Depending on what you believe, he could be one of the only people to truly know her - or that side of her at least. A side she has hidden from almost everyone.

There's something so romantic to me about (the concept of) fighting to death with the one who meant the most to you. The person who you idolized and is now passing on a torch to you - the strongest.

Rating Non-Zelink and Non-BotW Link Ships in Legend of Zelda Games because they don't get enough love

Malink; Malon x Link: Adorable and somewhat canon depending on who you think TP Link's parents are and what timeline shenanigans you subscribe to. Link's first non-Kokiri friend turning into his soulmate is cute and finding peace after the craziness of OoT is beautiful. Also, Malon is cute as a button. 11/10, love you, funky Horsegirl.

Ilia x Link: Pretty good but feels too much like a reskin of Malink to be really fun. People give Ilia grief for freaking out about Epona but it really isn't fucking deserved. Girl get's done dirty by the narrative and the fandom and she deserves better. Also, memory loss and falling in love all over again is absolute peak. 9/10, you deserve better, baby.

Marin x Link: A child's first taste of tragic ending and hot girls being doomed by the narrative. Very child friendly "Calypso and Odysseus" feel to this one. Still, Marin is absolutely adorable and the idea of falling in love with a literal dream is heartbreaking. 10/10, would cry like a little kid again.

Link x Ruto: Okay, hear me out, this one isn't terrible. Ruto's chld-like crush on the guy who saved her life is pretty cute and being a haughty teenager about it is pretty funny. Also, she understands they can't be together, and sends him off with her love and good wishes, which is surprisingly mature of her. I'm just saying, Ruto isn't the weirdo people make her out to be. 7/10, it still feels like entrapment

Midlink; Midna x Link: TOP TIER! BEST OF THE BEST! ABSOLUTE PEAK ROMANCE! Romeo and Juliet style star-crossed lovers from literal opposing sides of reality. Allies of convenience to friends to soulmates?! PEAK! Adorable evil goblin design for most of the game and then complete knockout reveal at the end?! ROMANCE DOOMED BY THE NARRATIVE?! PEAK, I TELL YOU! PEAK! (Also I headcannon that because Midna looks like a Hylian she's considered ugly by Twili standards so Link finding her beautiful warms her heart). 20/10, best ship, best girl, best love story.

Ganlink; Ganondorf x Link: Objectively the funniest Legend of Zelda ship in existence and I will take no arguments on that. Destined enemies giving the middle finger to fate and falling in love instead? Amazing. Ganondorf hates every minute of it but he's also the happiest he's ever been with this stupid twink and he hates that too. 10/10, something something the Grinch's heart grew three sizes that day.

Link x Zant: Objectively hilarious as Link is seducing his enemies into submission yet again, like any self-respecting bard, but this one feels a little too Batman x Joker like for my liking. I really ship Zant x Therapy but Midna watching her rival give up his conquering ambitions for a twink is objectively hilarious. 8/10, not great but not bad.

what's your take on rhaegar?

take as in, my opinion of his moral character? we don't have all the details for that, filling in the blanks involves a great deal of speculation. my read of him is based on what purpose he serves within the story.

i don't think much of him outside of what he means for dany. it's the way robb is not a character in his own right to me and exists only to serve catelyn and bran's arcs. which is why my opinion of rhaegar is mainly informed by that scene in agot, where dany dreams of him in his armour and lifts the visor to find that "the face within was her own", dany is clearly inheriting his narrative role (jon too in some capacity, but i'm not thinking of jon in relation to the targaryens before the reveal happens), it's for purely this reason i've never seen him as someone with no redeeming qualities. the memory of rhaegar shadows and informs everything she does (it is time to cross the trident) grrm writes her with shades of all her targaryen ancestors, because she's the last of them and embodies three hundred years of her house's glorious and terrible history. but rhaegar's particular echo is the strongest because that's the brother she would've married under slightly different circumstances, she imagines rhaegar as the ideal vision of the king in her mind whom she must emulate, he died and made her the prince that was promised. her entire character is constructed around him. he's not simply a strong influence in her life, she is him. they call her aegon the conquerer come again but she's been having visions of battling the others at the trident since agot, she's also rhaegar come again. she'll do everything he couldn't. it's just a bit inconceivable for a character like that to be revealed as a cold, unfeeling schemer. like, where's the heart in that? if everything rhaegar resembled was antithetical to dany's own beliefs and motives? aerys is already there to serve that exact role.

but what we learn about him from a number of contradictory sources is interesting. melancholy bard prince, born in grief, sang songs of doom and loss among the ruins of summerhall, presumably plagued by prophetic dragon dreams. he's framed as a character out of some song. all rebellion characters have that quality to them, there's a girl who dies trapped in a tower, another throws herself off a tower, the tourney at harrenhal episode is told to bran (and in turn, the readers) in the form of a song. they don't feel very real, or at least, they'll never get to be real the way our present day characters feel real because they're dead and their stories have been distorted and repurposed. robert's version is that of a king valiantly fighting for his abducted lady love, the version told to dany is that of tragic star crossed lovers torn apart by the realm. they're songs, and cannot be the whole truth. it's in the name. it was the year of the false spring and they all thought they were changing the world. rhaegar was going to call a great council and depose aerys, robert and ned where overthrowing a mad king to put an end to his atrocities. except rhaegar died having achieved nothing, robert ascended his throne on the corpses of children, then in fifteen years' time recreated the conditions for the start of another war. and lyanna simply traded one kind of gendered sentence for another. i'm not drawing a 1:1 equivalence between rhaegar and robert (and i do think it will be written as a romance with the truth somewhere between robert and dany's versions), but that she died either way is a pretty significant detail. she died in more ways than one! when they talk about her they recall a helpless maiden dead in some tower, not a girl capable of besting renowned knights.

like, it's very clear to me that the rebellion and its immediate consequences are meant to be read as a tragedy, caused not by the actions of a character(s) but as a result of the systemic failings of their world (which is why it's once again leading up to the burning of king's landing, where it all began, the city is symbolic of the very worst of westerosi feudalism). lyanna's death is less about robert and rhaegar and more about the way there was no escape possible for a girl like her—a theme that's carried over in sansa and arya's stories, except this time it will end with them getting to live the life lyanna wasn't allowed to, because this time they will change the world. dany's earnest dream of "to plant trees and watch them grow" is just that. it's the dream of spring.

i'm making it my life's mission to get every locked tomb fan to watch arcane because i know if it existed in the early 2010s we would see its influence in tlt. guys this show has literally everything you guys want (spoilers!). a billion scenes of hot muscular women fighting each other and getting beat and bruised and bloody. the most devastating doomed siblings narrative you'll ever see and it only keeps getting worse. skrunkly weird mentally ill teenager with access to explosives who blames herself for her family's deaths and is haunted by their hallucinations. star-crossed angsty lesbian lovers on opposite sides of a class system. orphan CANON BUTCH LESBIAN rebel with a savior complex who is also the eldest daughter, who feels immense guilt and singularly responsible for the socio-political situation of her entire society, who becomes everything she once hated and crashes out spectacularly. the most beautiful woman on earth and she has a gold color palette. the complex politics of capitalist imperialism on a regional level. guy gains healing abilities and accidentally invents a religion out of it. am i not describing the locked tomb right now
