#SPECIFICALLY TAGGED AS AROALLO TOO

Text
dont u love it when you go in the aroallo tag and then theres like fifty posts by aces calling sex disgusting and immoral. i love this community its so fun (sarcasm)
READING LITERACY TEST: - This post never said sex repulsed aroallos don't exist!! - This post never said that you, tumblr user frog78 that ive never heard of, have personally encountered sex repulsion in the aroallo tag - This post never said that I hate asexual, sex repulsed people or anything similar - This post never said asexual people don't like sex - This post never said all aroallo people feel this way, or that all alloaces are using the aroallo tag
What this post did say: tag your posts correctly!! Unless you are specifically an aroallo person talking about sex repulsion, your post about sex repulsion don't need to be in the aroallo tag!!
What this post did say: aromantic and asexual are still getting used interchangeably, even within the aspec community. This is a problem and it does affect both sides of the community, we should be working together to stop it.

you ever see someone reply to u with such a long take that reads everything u said in bad faith and also puts words in ur mouth and ??? im so confused
#i asked a blog i used to follow not to tag the aro posts they rb as aroace cuz the post wasnt just about aroacesit only said aromantics#right#like this is an issue in aro spaces guys like it'll be an aro post that mentions sexuality or lack thereof nowhere in it#and it'll still be rb'ed and tagged with aroace#bc the blogger had like. rb'ed aroallo specific posts and tagged them as aroallo so i didnt get why they were rb'ing??? aro posts as#aroace when the post i was talking abt did not. mention anything other than aromanticism#like if theyre just doing it for aro organization purposes they should have tagged the one they rb'ed w aroace as aroallo too right?#but they didnt so thats why i brought it up and i mentioned that they didnt tag it as aroallo#again: the post i was talking to them abt did not mention asexuality or allosexuality at all#and they??? got back to me by??? talking abt how aroaces are still aromantic???#i n. i never said they werent? i said. not to tag aro posts with aroace if. it only mentions arospecs and not!!! sexuality anywhere#like i didnt. i never say not to tag it with just aro. i would have preferred it be just aro tbh as thats all that post was about#and then they said??? that me being like 'i'm not trying to be mean or anything' is. admitting that i'm being mean#???????????#and. yknow how i said if they're tagging aroace for aro organization purposes they should be tagging aroallo too if theyre#just tagging any posts that mention aromantics with aroace#i think they were claiming that they did and my suggesting they do that was ?? an admission of acephobia?? or something#but they blocked me now so i cant even ask for clarification on anything so whatever i guess#anyway. dont assume aros are ace just bc theyre aro. same goes for aro posts~

Aces don't care about aro specific problems unless it can be made mostly about them. Aces and aroaces don't care about aroallos unless it can be mostly made about them.
I am happy that the aspec community overall said "we're not doing aphobia in 2024" but in light of the post I just reblogged a bit ago, nobody actually gives a shit that aromantic ALLOSEXUAL (cishet aro) men were the ones directly attacked here.
I don't think I've seen a single aroallo flag come up in all this aro positivity junk. I thankfully am seeing aromantic flags, but I'm seeing a lot of aroace related commentary too. Hell, I've been tagging ace tags on posts already tagged as ace tags bc it seemed important. But the attack was on cis aroallo/aro het men. Not aroaces.
Idk. I'm mulling it over and I'm not happy.

Aspec Venting Space!
Hiya! This is my sideblog designed specifically for aroacespecs and other aspecs to talk about their experiences, find people to relate to, and give out advice if they have any! It includes anyone who is not completely allo- in an area of attraction
[Jump to blog website]
What can I talk about?
Literally anything to do with being aspec! Whether positive or negative, it doesn't matter! This is your place to feel heard and understood as an aspec individual
Both asks and posts are open, so use whichever format you please! Include images, infodump your aspec life story, post art, ask questions, anything you want to use to express yourself
The only rule is not to get into anything too triggering, especially to do with heavy trauma or wanting to cause yourself or others harm
How did it come about?
I made an infographic on my main blog about underrepresented aroace experiences and it was relatable to a lot of people on the aro/ace spectrums. I realised we really don't talk about the hard parts of being aroace so I wanted to create a space where aspecs could vent both positively and negatively - I hope the experiences shared here make people feel just as heard as my infographic did!
Tag Directory
#Negative Vent, #Positive Vent, #Neutral Vent
#Aspec Advice will also be tagged if a post gives some advice!
Posts are also sorted by relevant orientation! For example: #Aspec Vent (all vents), aroace vent, aplatonic vent, aromantic vent, asexual vent, aroallo vent, so on so forth! There's also #Questioning for vents related to questioning, advice for questioning aspecs, and such!

The reason I feel disconnected from the term alloace and its tag is bc it's just not specific enough and bc of that a lot of commentary on alloaces falls flat to me. The specific gender(s) you have romantic attraction for greatly determine what type of experience you will have. There are so many straight ace experiences I can't relate to. Can you safely express romantic attraction in public? Are depictions of your romantic attraction banned in books and TV/film? Then there's race too. When your race is sexualised and your asexuality is denied, how can you then express romantic attraction freely? When your race is simultaneously desexualised, are you even allowed conventional romance to begin with? When you are seen as a sexual being against your will how can you decentre sexual attraction when no one has ever believed you?
Aroallo on the other hand is used to describe the collective experience of aromanticism without asexuality so there's a consistent community for that that's grown but go to alloace and its less active and a series of random posts, not really 'collective community' stuff. Most alloace content isn't called alloace like aroallo content is called aroallo, but just asexual. There's many ace posts that would fit the label but aren't under the tag. Not sure why but I don't think it's that deep. A lot alloace posts aren't even about alloaces specifically, they're posts about arospec experiences either comparing alloaces implying there's a type of privilege or actively blaming us for arospec erasure. The erasure is real and their anger is justified but again it's assumed under the banner of alloace that having romantic attraction automatically guarantees a certain experience when it doesn't, historically or systemically. The most visible alloaces are predominantly white and cishet. The 'allo asexuality' they have is one a lot of alloaces are actively denied and so we actually have more in common with arospecs bc we both have relationship models and exploration of romance that goes against what is societally expected of us. I relate to Black arospecs bc we share the history of how Black people are sexualised and desexualised. I relate to lesbian arospecs bc our attraction to women is unconventional, experiencing 'half' and not the other.
I'm then left scratching my head being asked to use the privilege I don't have and use the visibility I don't get. Does the aspec community ask aspecs to stand with gay, bi, pan and lesbian aces? Do they make posts on how biphobia and acephobia overlap to protect bi aces? Do they ask aspecs to learn the history of how gay romantic lit was censored? Do they ask aspecs to support alloace victims/survivors with the sexual violence they experience from non-ace partners? Do they ask aspecs to unpack compulsory sexuality? Do they do the community support they wish to see themselves?
So yeah, I'm frustrated. With other parts if my identity and if I don't see certain posts about it I'd be like 'well stop complaining and be the one to say something then'. I could do up 'allo aces are valid' content but again, who would I be referring to? Would anyone care? Is it even possible to make a catchall post that fits the whole experience? It's looking like no. Again I need this community to start to looking outside the scope of their own personal aspec experience cus community is in the name but it doesn't feel like it.

Welcome to Roses Are Repulsed 🌹
What is this blog?
Welcome to Roses-are-repulsed! This blogs main focus is to be a source of positivity for romance and sex repulsed people! Mostly there is a focus on the aro and ace community but repulsed allos are also welcome here!
And while not specifically targeted at other split attraction repulsed identities, you all are welcome here as well :) So if your plato-repulsed or just any or all attraction repulsed then you too are welcome here.
Who runs it?
This blog is run by @redysetdare! You can call me Red or Dare and I use he/they pronouns! I'm a loveless aroace who is romance repulsed/averse and sex repulsed. (Also a-attractional in general? I don't feel any attraction on the SAM at all. Recently also found that I may just be attraction/relationship repulsed/averse in general)
I've been doing my best to make posts about my repulsed experience and trying to push for more support and positivity surrounding repulsed experiences! if you are repulsed, averse, or maybe just tired of romance/sex/whatever in general then feel free to share you experience or just hang out here :)
Glossary of Terms
Sex repulsed: someone who is uncomfortable or disgusted by the idea of sex in reference to themselves and to others. each persons comfort level is different and decided by the individual.
Romance repulsed: Someone who is uncomfortable or disgusted by the idea of romance in reference to themselves and others. each persons comfort level is different and decided by the individual.

Romance Averse: someone who is uncomfortable by the idea of romance in reference to themselves but may be okay with it in reference to others. their comfort with the topic may range greatly and may need certain standards to be met for them to be okay with the discussion.
Rose: Shortened version of "Romance and Sex" with Ro = Romance and Se=Sex. It can be used as an easy shorthand when talking about identities relating to both romance and sex, such as Rose prepulsed, Allorose, Arose, etc.
Allo: apposite of the a-prefix. Allosexual is someone who experiences sexual attraction; alloromantic is someone who experiences romantic attraction; and alloplatonic is someone who experiences platonic attraction.
Sex negative: a political stance where one believes that the act of sex is immoral in some way. Usually pushed by puritan Christians who believe that sex is only meant to be between a man or a woman, that it should only be done to have children and not for pleasure, and that it is a duty of serving god. it is important to make a distinction between the political belief of sex negativity and being sex repulsed.

Hello! Lately I’ve been questioning if I’m aroallo more. I already know I’m aro-spec and I currently consider myself ace-spec but, lately I’ve just been questioning. I was wondering if you know any blogs or resources that have more insight on being aroallo. Thank you in advance!
I would specifically seek out aroallo experiences, so you can check the tags/search here on tumblr and both aroallo and alloaro are used. Arocalypse I believe also has a few threads about being aroallo.
I'll throw this out to followers too, does anyone know any good place to find aroallos talking about being aroallo or any other resources they want to share? Please do!

I'm loving this blocking discussion tbh. For fun here's why I blocked the last 3 people I blocked:
Posted ace-specific stuff in the aromantic tag
Made a post saying that white followers need to "pay rent"
Blazed a Christian post
Oh mood I to dislike that ace and around are treated as equivalent. As a (grey)aro and Bisexual it's frustrating to see almost every "aro" post be really about ace topics or aroace topics us aroallos need more love.
Also yea both of the other 2 would get blocks from me too you are so valid.

most of my theories are surrounding kazui because he's my favourite prisoner (if you can't tell)
right first off - his "sin". At first I assumed it was cheating from the half music video because, wow that was vague, but now with cat and his new voice drama I don't think so anymore. I have 3 working theories
1. He's gay and married to meet societal expectations
2. He's aroallo and married to meet societal expectations
3. he just simply never loved her and married to meet societal expectations
Ranked that in order of likeliness because tbh I feel like the last one wouldn't give as much of dept to his character as the other two and I think milgram has a running theme of "they did a bad thing BUT" blah blah blah with the prisoners and no.3 kinda just makes him seem like an asshole for not telling her sooner.
So: No.1 and No.2
Both of my reasonings for thinking so are very similar, the lyrics about acting and "why can't I be normal?" would fit for both. If he's gay/aromatic he'd be 'different' then what society expects of him. The apple = sin imagery (atleast that's how I've interpreted it) would fit for being gay, and the lyrics about how he "just wanted to touch and caress" could hint that he only wanted a physical relationship (or that he's aromantic) and kinda just dug himself into a hole so he could fit society's expectations (I could go alot more indept but I don't wanna bombard you)
Then there's the whole question of how his wife actually died, and again I've got two main theories
1. She hung herself
2. Kazui pushed her off a balcony
For No.1 the chair constantly appearing in Half could point to that, also the fact that based on his voice dramas it seems he never actually killed her with his hands but No.2 also has some evidence behind it aswell.
We know he's strong enough to defeat Kotoko, he probably wouldn't have a problem with pushing his wife in terms of strength. When Kazui is bent towards the chair in Half there's imagery of a balcony in the distance, and in Cat at the end when Kazui 'eats' the dove his wife immediately falls and the apple splats on the ground. If they were arguing after Kazui told her the truth and things got heated, he would be able to overpower her. Also right before his wife falls his shadow is standing behind her rather,, omenicingly (that's probably spelt wrong)
then I have two more kinda throw away theories
1. The line at the end of Cat - "Lick that sin and oppose punishment, until you can meet the king of the masquerade" kind of sounds like Kazui is asking the audience to vote him innocent/forgiven. If we "oppose his punishment", we'll see the true Kazui in his 3rd Trial? The "King of the Masquerade"?? Maybe.
2. Shidou's family died in a car crash he caused/ he was driving when it happened. This is definitely reaching but look his answer about driving in the Q&A's feels very off okay. It would kind of make sense too,, if someone in his family needed blood or an organ or something it could be reason enough in his eyes to purposefully fail surgeries (assuming that's his crime)
Thats all, I like to think about imagery and symbolism more than actually theorising (leave that to the smarter pros) so I don't have many. Good day
I know that after a discussion about Valentine's Day is by far the worst time to post this specifically, but I finally caught up and I don't want to leave this any longer, so before I forget;
(I know some of you aren't here to see milgram theories, so I'll tag it and hide it under the cut)
Now that I've finally watched Cat, I really wanted to put together a full complete theory I was pretty confident on, but I've spent hours thinking about this trainwreck of a man, and I still got nothing - here's how much theory I wrote on Kazui after watching Cat, and I still don't know shit
Tumblr media
Everything about him is so contradictory; after Shidou's second MV I feel as though I have a theory that I think explains everything from both Trial 1 and 2 - his MVs, his voice dramas, all of it - so I'd really hoped I could do the same with Kazui, but he's such a hot mess that I've really been struggling to even wrap my head around everything we've seen so far.
Just from what we were shown in Undercover, I don't think that it's a stretch to assume that Kazui's wife took her own life by jumping from the balcony - but that's about the only thing I'm even remotely confident in.
We know that Kazui apparently spent his marriage - and most of his life - hiding some big secret that we don't know about, and there's a lot of evidence that would support the idea that the secret he was hiding was that he's gay; he talks about trying to live as himself, the 'way he was born' - even the title of his MV, 'Cat', could be a reference to how apparently in Japanese slang 'neko' can refer to a bottom in a gay relationship, as opposed to 'tachi', which means top.
But his second voice drama really threw me - it heavily implies that Kazui has a previous history of violence that he's potentially been trying to leave in the past, and if that was the big secret he was hiding, it would explain a lot of the things that don't quite seem to fit the 'Kazui is gay' theory - but Cat doesn't really support that idea, so I don't know how much water it holds.
And then there's the woman in Half, who, given that she has a detailed face, must be important to him - but she hasn't been mentioned since.
So yeah, I have no idea what to do with this man lol
I've also been thinking a lot about that line from Cat you mentioned - 'Lick that sin and oppose punishment, until you can meet the king of the masquerade' - and I think it's meant to be a metaphor comparing Kazui and Es (and by extension, the audience) to cats grooming each other; basically, like one cat cleaning another, we're washing away his sin to justify an innocent verdict, even though we're not even close to seeing the real him.
It's more or less the same sentiment Yuno expressed in her voice drama - because we (the audience) want to believe Kazui is a good person, we're manufacturing scenarios that let us be sympathetic to him, even though there's no evidence to base those theories on.
All in all, the only thing I'm sure of is that I'm terrified of how little we still know about Kazui.
(Though to be fair, I'm way more terrified by the fact that we're most of the way through Trial 2 and we still don't know where Kotoko managed to find a baseball bat in the magic murder prison.)
Anyway, those are my initial thoughts - either way, Cat's a jam and it's been living rent-free in my head all day <3

Dear Yuletide Writer
First of all, thank you! I'm pretty easy to please, and I can't wait to see what you come up with for me.
Secondly, I'd love to receive treats from anyone! I forgot to put this in my sign-up, so I hope this counts too.
I'll list my general likes and dislikes, though there are a small number of exceptions in my notes for specific fandoms.
Likes:
~any genre, hard fluff to hard angst
~any rating
~hurt/comfort, especially emotional
~anxious and/or depressed and/or PTSD-suffering characters + supportive partners/friends who are always there for them even if they don't quite understand what they're going through
~porn with feelings
~aromantic spectrum characters, asexual spectrum characters, and/or queerplatonic relationships. I'm aroace and in a QPR myself, so I have a lot of these types of headcanons.
~“unconventional” relationships in general (coparenting while not being involved romantically/sexually, aroallo or alloace relationships, platonic life partners, being close friends with an ex, polyamory, etc etc)
DNWs:
~noncon/dubcon/cheating/violence between requested characters
~amatonormativity (the idea that romantic relationships are more important than other kinds, the assumption that all people desire a romantic relationship and would automatically be happier with one, sort of a form of arophobia)
~compulsory sexuality (the assumption that all people desire sex and would automatically be happier than without it, sort of a form of acephobia)
Now for specific fandom notes:
We Are A Picturesque Small Town And We Refuse To Be The Setting For Your RomCom - Rachel McKenny
(Chet Anderson, Medical Practitioner, Lumber Industry Professional, Billionaire – My gift must feature one or more of my chosen character tags (giver's choice))
I just love the aromantic vibes this one gives off with all the townspeople being so fed up with romance. What if this in fact a town full of arospecs? Perhaps someone comes there looking for romance and finds about this other way of living. Or perhaps a “couple” (or moresome) from the town follows the steps of one of those stereotypical romance storylines, but they’re really in a platonic/queerplatonic relationship? Would especially love to see Chet show up as aromantic and be totally done with the shenanigans as he prosecuting someone for their crimes.
On the other hand, I can see this turning Twilight Zone-esque. Perhaps there literally can’t be romance past the borders of the town. How and why? What happens if someone with romantic feelings enters? (If you choose this, please be careful not to make it arophobic. For example, no insisting/inferring that not having romance in their live is inherently sad/pathetic/unfulfilling/etc for every single person.)
In either case, it would be super fun to see appearances of some of the little details like the specific businesses (especially the combo ones) and literal holidays mentioned in the piece.
Pocahontas (Disney Movies)
(Mrs. Jenkins, John Rolfe, Pocahontas, John Smith – My gift must feature all of my chosen character tags; or it may use exceptions I explain in the form)
For this one, please include Pocahontas and the Johns; Mrs. Jenkins is fun but optional. (Though they're no nominated, appearances from any of the animal characters would also be enjoyed.) Despite knowing it's based on history, I've always been kind of bummed Pocahontas ended up with Rolfe instead of Smith. But last time I watched, I was struck by how much I liked the idea of them as an OT3. Each pair has a fun dynamic between them, and this way, everybody “wins.”
As a side note, I know these movies are based on some contentious real history with all the sharp corners Disney sanded off. I'm not ignoring that, but I am just looking for something set in this fictional version.
Snuggly Pup Palace (Podcast)
(Listener | Pooch Palace Visitor, Heather, Sam, Daisy – My gift must feature one or more of my chosen character tags (giver's choice))
I just want to see something more in this setting with the same sort of chill vibe. Maybe just a slice of life of how the Pooch Palace runs. Maybe a continuation or sequel of the sleepcast itself. Maybe a bit of expansion on Sam and/or Health and how they came to work here and what they think of it. Daisy might be my favorite fictional dog; what an absolute sweetheart.
FAITH (Airdorf Video Games)
(John Ward, Father Garcia, Amy Martin – My gift must feature one or more of my chosen character tags (giver's choice))
For this fandom specifically, canon levels of violence/gore are fine, even between the requested characters. Religious content is also fine, but please nothing overtly preachy. I'm not religious, and I'm not looking to be converted.
John is my favorite here. My Type when it comes to characters is very much “guy who tries so hard to do the right thing and suffers for it and is kind of a real kicked puppy type.” So just, I dunno, anything kind of about that? Or maybe what happened to him after the game? I don't recall which ending is meant to be “canon,” but I like the one where Garcia basically becomes his mentor. I like that take on their relationship, but I'm also not opposed to shipping them. (Big fan of John's more-or-less canon bisexuality.) I'm also a little fascinated by John's relationship with Amy and how easily she forgives him toward the end of the game, even after everything. How did she reach that point? And how much must that have thrown him for a loop?
Merge Mansion (Video Game)
(Maddie Boulton, Rufus, Emilio Costa, Roddy Took – My gift must feature one or more of my chosen character tags (giver's choice)
I know Maddie never realizing that the guys are coming on to her is an ongoing joke, but it really reads are her being aromantic/arospec to me. I'd love to see some exploration of that. Maybe she doesn't know it yet herself? Maybe she talks to Rufus about how she just doesn't understand?
If not, sort of anything that's just fun and light related to this game and not featuring Maddie romance would be great. Maybe something based on one of the events or areas. I know the actual merge gameplay doesn't really convert to real life, but seeing some of those objects might be fun.
Eleanor Rigby - The Beatles (Song)
(Eleanor Rigby, Father McKenzie – My gift must feature one or more of my chosen character tags (giver's choice))
I don't get out much musically, so I've just heard this song for the first time relatively recently (specifically the Cody Fry version) and was kinda fascinated by it. What is Eleanor's story? Does McKenzie really give sermons to an empty church? What is their relationship (now romantic/sexual please!) How lonely are they really? My brain likes the idea that Eleanor might be aro/arospec and alone by choice. (And if you wanna go weird, some dark corner of my brain likes the idea of her face in a jar being literal.)

as an alloaro person who loves sex and experiencing sexual attraction this page isn't for me and it's not inclusive and welcoming to post a blog that predominantly serves aroace people in the alloaro tags! It's so hard to find stuff already please don't clog the alloaro tag!!! I love aroace people and I'm glad you have your space but I have never entered the alloraro tag ONCE and seen a larger number of posts for allosexual aromantics than I've seen mistagged posts by aroace people. It's so isolating and it makes me feel like most of the aro community sees me as some scary sexual other
Hey! I wanted to reply to this and clear something up!
I am a very big believer of this too. I don’t think it is okay to tag posts that are specifically for aroace people as aroallo or alloace, and I (to my knowledge) don’t do that.
The post I believe you referring to is one in which I said that alloaros and alloaces are welcome on my page if they feel they want to follow it even if it is a mainly aroace page! I have seen a lot of posts where alloaros and alloaces have expressed not feeling welcome by aroaces. I wanted to combat that since I do make the occasional eww sex or eww romance joke, and I don’t want them to come off as me not liking people who do enjoy those things. The intention behind the post was to be welcoming and inclusive. I want those communities to feel welcome here, so I made a post stating that they are. I assumed since the post talked about aroallos and alloaces that it made sense to put those tags. I am very sorry if my message got messed up by me using those tags…
I believe that is the only time I’ve ever used those tags but if I have accidentally missclicked and caused myself to pop up on tags not for me I am very sorry. I wasn’t my intention to clog up the tag or make anyone feel uncomfortable.
(I went back and deleted those tags off the post)
Thank you for bringing this to my attention!

The survey results!
I finished compiling all the results to that survey I made and here’s the link to the spreadsheet that has all the responses, sorted into categories, with charts at the bottom. (A few of the charts have words like “sex” and “masturbation” in size 20 font so you might wanna wait on clicking that until you’re in an environment where it wouldn’t be awkward.)
Now, to address a couple things before I get started.
I would first off, like to thank the person who pointed out the fact that I was technically asking minors sexually-explicit questions. By the time I saw their concern, I was up to 60+ answers and it was too late to start it over, so I had to quickly jump in and edit in a note telling minors not to answer certain questions. (I swear, that was an accident! I was debating on whether to include them and then decided on including them, then immediately forgot I made them a demographic as I went on to making the other questions.)
I am also sorry that I didn’t include options under certain demographic questions. I wanted to keep things simple. And to be honest? If I were to redo this, I’d put in a “write in” for gender, a “write in” for orientation. And then, have a required question asking if you were on the ace spectrum, not on the ace spectrum, or questioning. And a similar one for aro. Because that would have made my life 10x easier and you would’ve gotten these results half a week ago oh my god.
Additionally, I don’t want to see any nitpicking on what responses I put where. I’ve had to redo/recount categories several times because I realized I had somehow missed a huge chunk of people who fall under that category. And there’s been responses that I sat on forever trying to figure out where to sort them and in the end, just... gave up. This project has taken up a majority of my free time for the past week and I just want to move on with my life.
Now onto the results, under the “read more.”
There were a total of 745 respondents! (though like six of them showed up blank?) I put their results into categories that you can see on the spreadsheet. Aces, not aces, aros, not aros, alloallos, aroaces, alloaces, aroallos, strictly asexual, strictly aromantic, strictly aroace, gray area aces, gray area aros, demisexuals, demiromantics, graysexuals, grayromantics, aegosexuals, aegoromantics, and questioning.
I do not have the mental energy to go through every questions with every group, so go check out the spreadsheet itself. I’m just going to go over what I found interesting, and explain why I asked some of what I did.
For specific aspec labels, I only made categories for demis, grays, and aegos. Because they were, unsurprisingly, the most common identities (aside from asexual and aromantic). You can see the numbers below.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I’m surprised at the amount of aroflux people though. And aceflux too. The Tumblr tags for them are mostly inactive which made me think they were more on the rare side.
People assume aces are sex repulsed or averse. And they make up the majority of aces. But 9.8% of aces are sex-favorable towards doing the deed, and 15.7% of them are sex-favorable towards sexual content. People assume allosexuals are usually into sex. But 1.8% of allos are sex-repulsed by doing the deed, and .9% of nonaces are sex-repulsed towards sexual content. What about aros? 22.9% of aros are romance-favorable in terms of themselves, and 2% of nonaros were romance-averse. 29.7% of aros were romance-favorable in regards to romantic content, which turns out is the majority opinion among aros!  While .7% of nonaros were romance-repulsed towards romantic content.
I asked questions about the environments people grew up in. To see if I could debunk any myths about aces being from sex-negative households. It turns out, there were more aces who grew up in a sex positive household (26.7%) than a sex negative (20.7%) one. It was most common for them to be mixed though (33.2%). Interestingly enough, in the not-ace category, 23.7% grew up in a sex negative household while 22.8% grew up sex positive. It’s a close enough difference to chalk up to coincidence though. 41.6% were mixed. It turns out more demisexuals grew up in a sex negative household. 26.5% vs 25.5%. That’s only one percentage off, which meant the tie break came down to one or two people. Overall, since the majority of everyone answered “mixed,” and the sex negative/positive responses were so closely tied, I think it’s safe to say that in most cases, the views one grew up hearing doesn’t mean much in terms of if someone is ace or not. But it is interesting to note that those who are “strictly” ace, have 28.7% in sex positive households and 17.2% in sex negative. So that’s something.
Aros, it seems, grew up with a lot of pressure to be in a romantic relationship. 33% had that pressure, whereas only 19.4% grew up where being single was seen as an okay thing. 37.8% had a mixture of both. Those who aren’t aro, 24.8%  had that pressure and 24.8% grew up in a “being single is okay” environment. No, I did not make a typo. The numbers really are identical. 37.8% were mixed. As for alloallos- 31.9% grew up where being single was okay, vs 21.2% being pressured. Aroaces- 32.3% were pressured, 18.7% were not. Alloaces- 26.1% pressured, 21.1% okay. Aroallos- 39.4% pressured, 19.7% okay. Very interesting stats here. Looks like aspecs, arospecs in particular, are more likely to grow up feeling pressure to be in a relationship. (Then again, kinda makes sense.)
Time to bring up masturbation. The majority of nonaces do it several times a week at 38.4%. The majority of aces also do it several times a week! (But our percentage is 25.5%.) Aces and nonaces don’t have any particular preference when it comes to what they do it to. Most of both categories had that as the majority. However, reading materials come in second for aces whereas nonaces prefer visuals. I was mostly curious about aegosexuals though. 45.7% of them go at it several times a week. 35.8% vary in what they use, but 28.4% go to reading materials, 17.9% use their imagination, and 11.9% go for visuals.
As for libido? The majority of both aces and nonaces are on the weaker side. Not a single person, out of 745, answered any higher than “slightly strong.” More aces have it weak than nonaces, but the fact still remains just as many nonaces have it weak too. Only 10.8% of nonaces answered “slightly strong,” though only 5.1% of aces have it “slightly strong.” 40% of those who are strictly ace have it weak, 38.3% very weak. So aces are unsurprisingly more likely to have a lower libido. But, 2.9% of them have it slightly strong.
Do my alloaces want some depressing news? 20.7% of alloallos see sex as “very important” in a romantic relationship. 20.7% of alloallos see sex as “slightly important.” They are tied for the majority of alloallos. But do not despair, for 13.4% of them say they can go without. So alloallos willing to forego sex do exist, at least. It is a shame though, given 70.5% of aces can go without.
In terms of needing to be in a romantic relationship, 42.8% of aros can go without whereas 3.5% of them find it important. Meanwhile, it is very important to 15.2% of nonaros. Only 4.4% of nonaros can go without a romantic relationship.
Now, for questions that mattered most to me....
I had a theory that, acepecs who feel sexual attraction rarely are more likely to feel it stronger than allos, since allos feel it often enough to sort of “be used to it.” (I sure feel it comically strong and refuse to believe allos live life like that frequently!) Was my theory correct?
Not really. It turns out, allos are more likely to feel it strongly! Only 3.2% of aces feel it “strong” vs 15.0% for nonaces. To be fair, one of the definitions of falling into the ace spectrum is, feeling sexual attraction weakly. Which means we’ve got weak statistics on our end. 4.4% of demisexuals feel it strongly though- the highest of our groups. However, only 1.9% of nonaces feel it “very strong” vs 3.2% of graysexuals.(Of course, the graysexual category is vastly smaller than the nonace category, but that’s worth a mention.) So, there might still be some truth to my theory.
What about with arospecs and romantic attraction? 2.4% of aros feel that attraction “very strong” vs 9.0% of nonaros. However, 4.5% of demiros feel it “very strong” and 1.5% of grayros. What about just “strong”? 13.8% of grayros, 17% of demiros, 9.6% of aros,  21.5% of nonaros, 23.4% of alloaces, and 23.2% of alloallos.
Ever since I first discovered the ace spectrum, I wondered how many people allos are sexually attracted to. And alloros romantically attracted to. Is there a certain limit of people an aspec is allowed to be attracted to, until they get their ace/aro card taken away?
Nope! 1.5% of aces have it happen regularly, and 1.7% have had it towards 17+ people! Of course, 63% have never been sexually attracted to anyone, and 30.3% have been sexually attracted to 1-5 people. 3.2% felt it for 6-10. So, people of varying levels of sexual attraction have identified as ace. Nonaces, however, 32.4% experience sexual attraction regularly. Upon questioned “how regularly?” I got varying answers, ranging between a few times a year to a few times a month to a few times a week to even daily! And someone even implied that it was weird to keep count of such a thing! (Which was more validating for me than any validation post I’ve ever read, so thank you to the person who wrote that.)
Aros for people they’re romantically attracted to? Only 1.4% have it happen regularly, and 1.4% felt it towards 11-16 people. 4.5% felt it towards 6-10 people and 42% felt it towards 1-5 people. 50.5% never felt it. So, similar enough numbers to aces. As for nonaros? Only 6.3% have it happen regularly! (When questioned how often, many wrote multiple times a month or multiple times a year.) The vast majority of nonaros, 54%, answered 1-5 people. It looks like romantic attraction is a rare thing for everyone in comparison to sexual!
Maybe that’s why limerence is uncommon! 53.4% of all respondents have never felt limerence before. (Limerence here being boiled down to an obsession with someone, often to an unhealthy extent.) 17.3% felt it. 12.2% felt it, but wouldn’t call it “unhealthy.” And 17.1% are unsure. I asked this because, as someone who went through a bad case of it last year, I was curious to see how  many other people shared my plight. I actually threw the question in at the very last minute as an afterthought and, had I known how many people would take this, I would’ve asked for more details from respondents. I was also wondering if any aros have experienced it. And it turns out, 8.5% of those who are strictly aro have been through limerence, proving that it isn’t just an alloromantic thing, although 23.1% of nonaros have felt it.
There were two other questions I asked that I ended up too burnt out to even do anything with. The first was, “how often do you go out in public aside from school/work?” I asked this to see if there’s a correlation between the amount of people one is sexually/romantically attracted to with how often they leave the house. But it turns out, we are 2 years into a pandemic, so obviously, not many people are leaving the house. So that question ended up being useless. The other question was “how often do you seek out new visual media.” I asked that for a similar reason: People who seek out a lot of visual media, like tv shows, are going to see more people than someone who doesn’t. And seeing more people = more targets for sexual/romantic attraction. I can’t answer that one, because, too burnt out. But there’s numbers on the spreadsheet if you’re willing to sort through that mess to find out.
Last, but certainly not least, I asked if there was too much focus on sex in society. And if there was too much focus on romance in society. I wondered if allos felt the same way as most aces and aros in regards to the prominence of sex and romance. And it turns out they do! 37.2% of nonaces answered yes to “too much focus on sex.” 51.7% of nonaros answered yes to “too much focus on romance.” All across the board of all categories, the majority voted “yes.” 46% of alloallos answered “yes” on romance and 36.6% answered “yes” on sex. Of course, aces and aros had much higher percentages on the yeses, but that’s no surprise.
Looking at all of this, how some allos also have low libidos, how some allos can forego sex in a relationship, how some allos don’t have interest in being in a romantic relationship, how some allos also rarely experience attraction, that some of these allos could actually qualify as ace/arospec, right? That is why I ended the survey asking why they don’t consider themselves ace/arospec. One of the most common reasons seems to be, they don’t like using labels, or the label doesn’t fit them because they do feel attraction. A few mentioned they did when they were younger but stopped because it didn’t apply anymore. Meanwhile aspecs identify as such because, they feel at home in their label. It just fits right.
So I guess, whether you are ace/arospec or allo, comes down to if you’re comfortable with that label. If you’re happy with it. If it brings you a sense of relief. If it describes you perfectly. Or if it’s simply closest thing that fits. There is no, one way to be aspec. There’s no strict, set of rules or criteria you must meet. It all comes down to how that label makes you feel.
So there’s the results. Thank you to everyone who participated!
