Laura Boisvert has had her four-year-old Samoyed, called Mama Bear, since it was a puppy.
She rents her apartment and, according to her, before the dog was allowed she had to promise her landlord that she’d bring Mama Bear and her other dog to work with her.
“For him to know that they weren’t going to bark during the day or that they weren’t going to do damage to the apartment,” she explained.
She’s lucky, but pet advocates say too many Quebec tenants aren’t.
That’s why, as moving season approaches, the Montreal SPCA and Québec solidaire are urging the provincial government to ban no-pet clauses in residential lease agreements. [...]

The staggering stray dog and cat overpopulation around the world now asks for your help before they are caught for the dog and cat meat trade. Dogs and Cats need nonsurgical, easy-to-use, inexpensive contraception products. Please sign our petition and follow the Alliance for Contraception in Cats and Dogs. Thank you.

Always happy to partner with the Florida Keys SPCA in helping out a Ball Python that was found outside of a laundry room at Porter Place and brought to our center. Thanks to the SPCA and Animal Control Officer Conni for picking up what is most likely an escaped pet and getting the snake safely into care. Thanks to all involved!

The Shaggy Dog Named Phyllis Diller: A Rescue Story
That’s a fun and unique way to name this special dog! It’s not uncommon for rescued dogs to be of unknown heritage, but that only adds to their charm and individuality. And what better way to celebrate this dog’s shaggy appearance than by giving Jax a nick name after the famous comedienne Phyllis Diller, known for her wild hair and hilarious jokes. It’s clear that Sarah has a great sense of…

Going over the small print with a fine-tooth comb, I found out my local "no kill" shelter does indeed kill any animal they deem unadoptable. The reason I was reading it in the first place: a few months after covid I found an underweight kitten outside. It was extremely aggressive. A vet concluded she was suffering from PTSD due to abuse from whoever had her before dumping her out in the cold. I'm a wheelchair user and could not handle caring for a cat like this. She'd been through and survived so much, I wanted to make sure she had the opportunity to be cared for by someone. As it turned out the so-called no kill shelter couldn't be trusted not to murder her. I had no choice but to keep her and do my best.
After about two years of training, love, and psych meds, she mellowed out. She's doing great now. I frequently think about how cruelly her life would have ended if I let a faux-kill shelter get its hands on her though. Thank fuck I'm a paranoid bitch who doesn't take anyone's word for anything.
Anyway, support the SPCA. At least they're upfront about what they do.
I think this is super important to remember.

Critical Thinking Module, Summative Assessment Compulsory Question 3:
This session of the CTS module has opened my eyes to the wide range of career paths available to me. It has shown me that there are numerous options I could explore, which has broadened my perspective on what my future could hold. Additionally, I’ve come to understand how essential critical thinking skills will be in my future design journey and upcoming projects. By applying these skills, I can approach challenges more effectively and create more impactful work. This insight has been both encouraging and empowering as I move forward in my career.
In week 12, I was assigned to a group, and together, we were tasked with answering a set of specific questions.
"What kinds of collaborative projects would you like to do?", "What kind of final project would you like to do?" and "Consider Community engagements and Professional skills".
Regarding collaborative projects, I am particularly interested in working with students from the Theatre Production and Management program to create deliverables like show or movie posters, leaflets, and other marketing materials. We could also assist them by providing visual design support for their productions. Collaborating with students from different faculties would be a great chance to work alongside individuals with diverse backgrounds and perspectives. This experience would not only enhance my design skills but also help me develop essential teamwork and communication abilities.
For my Final Year Project, I want to create an initiative to help stray cats in Singapore. This project will challenge me to expand my design thinking skills by tackling sensitive issues around stray animals. My goal is to address these topics thoughtfully and deliver solutions that raise awareness and are well-received by the community. This will test my creativity and empathy as I work to make a positive impact.
I plan to create a user-friendly app or website to help people assist stray animals, especially cats found around residential areas. Users could post sightings for potential adopters to locate strays or start a fundraising campaign for injured cats. The design would be accessible for all ages, including children, to promote community involvement and facilitate SPCA (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animal) contact for urgent help.
