Timothy Hutton, Aldis Hodge, Christian Kane, and Beth Riesgraf in Leverage (2008) The Wedding Job
S1E7
Blackmailed restaurateur Ray Palermo was falsely convicted and jailed instead of mobster Nicky Moscone, who didn't even keep his promise to take care of his family. Sophie makes Nate accepts to promise getting the restaurant back for 'widow' Teresa Palermo. The plan is stealing enough cash at Moscone's daughter's wedding, posing as wedding planner, caterer and minister. But is gets complicated because Russian mob guest Sergei and Nicky's bossy wife Heather bring their own plans and his ruthless retinue, including Elliot's nemesis, the butcher of Kiev.
*First interactive appearance of the inept FBI agents Taggert and McSweetin, whose careers will continue to skyrocket thanks to the intervention of Nate and his team. (First appearance was The Bank Shot Job, but they never met the Leverage team.)

thinking about ed's reasons to live - warmth and good food and orgasms - and the moments in the series when these are present (or not), and how all roads lead back to stede
there's a distinct lack of warmth in the gravy basket. it's tinted blue as if it's cold. ed's near-death is portrayed as him drowning in cold water. we don't see him with a robe or a blanket at any point in the kraken era, not even in private, even though we know these things comfort him. we don't see him having any physical contact with the crew - in fact there's often a large space between him and the others. he does not feel the warmth of other human beings.
in contrast, warmth is a key feature of times when he and stede work together well - they use fire to appear like a lighthouse in s1e4, stede burns the boat after the aristocrats upset ed in s1e5, ed is under a blanket when stede comforts him in s1e6, they enjoy the snake snack by the fire in s1e7.
when ed eats without stede, it's not 'good food' - either he's eating marmalade out of the jar or cake icing off a dagger because he misses stede, or he's using the wrong cutlery to eat a prawn and getting laughed at by the aristocrats. he ensures the crew get cake from the wedding raids, but does not join them to eat it. he accidentally ruins the fishermen's meal in s2e8.
when ed eats with stede, the meals are substantive and good quality - breakfast spreads, the snake snack, the meal they don't pay for. they take part in so many little social rituals associated with eating - making food for each other, clinking their teacups together, stede getting the crumb out of ed's beard. many of their major relationship moments revolve around food - stede bringing ed breakfast in s1e4, the cutlery being a turning point in s1e5, blackbeard's bar and grill in s1e7, jack interrupting breakfast and 'well well look who's eating seaweed' in s1e8, their reconciliation at the dinner at anne and mary's house in s2e4, the breakfast in bed in s2e7.
orgasms is in some ways an obvious one bc the only sex scene he has is with stede - but on a wider level, he has very little positive physical contact with anybody that isn't stede (other than his cute little friendship dance with anne) - even his interactions with jack feel somewhat forced and over the top. but ed and stede touch all the time, in a very casual way, and a lot of the moments where they touch are significant - ed holding stede's hand while he's unconscious in s1e4, ed throwing his arms around stede after the lighthouse plan works in s1e4, ed resting his head against stede's hand in s1e6, the foot touch in s1e8, stede trying to wake ed up in s2e3, ed reaching out to protect stede in s1e9 and s2e6, the way they wrap themselves around each other when they kiss.
in comparison, the ways that he shares contact with other characters is starkly different - fang describes desecrating ed's unconscious body, he indirectly loses autonomy over his body when he's forced to shave his beard at the privateering academy, ed and izzy's touches in s1e10 are either violent (e.g. ed feeding izzy his toe) or an uncomfortable violation of boundaries (e.g. izzy touching ed's cheek). compare this to stede's approach to touching ed - he asks ed to come out from under the blanket in s2e4 instead of pulling it away, he checks in with 'is this okay' when they're holding hands in s2e5, he waits for ed's nod of consent in s2e6.
idk i'm just emotional about how hornigold asked ed what he liked about living and he basically said 'stede' three times

Kali Call Of Darkness THEORY?
❗❗MAJOR SPOILER ALERT FOR THOSE WHO ARE PLAYING FOR THE FIRST TIME:❗❗
In S1E7, we have a conversation with Sana, where she says the following:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
"For helping a lost sheep."
"Muktakeshi will punish me for disobeying..."
With these lines, we can deduce, that the Chauhans (especially Priyanka) have strictly instructed her not to disclose a single information about the city and the religion, and especially, The Dozen.
So as per I think, Amrit worked to get Amala from London to Kolkata, and the entire murder of particularly Hayes was a stage play. They were already sacrificing humans, so Amrit proposed to sacrifice Hayes, to attract attention of the British govt. And therefore pull strings to get Gabriel vouch for Amala, despite her being inexperienced asf. We get to know this only in Killian's route though.
Amrit saw how Calcutta was basically 'without order' and all the stuff and wanted the Basus to be back. He arranged for Amala to stay at a former Banerjee's (one of the Dozen) household (We know that Priyanka was a Banerjee before her marriage and after marriage she became a Chauhan), so that Amala could become closer to the culture and way of life, as well as gather information. Devdas didn't know shit until Amala came, but Vimal got to know everything, and therefore warned Priyanka about Amala and the return of the Basus.
He made a deal with Priyanka, that if she keeps an eye on Amala, without disclosing information about their family and the Dozen, and reporting her activities to Vimal, he may will help her conceive. He knew the stubborn nature of the Basu women, and knew that if Amala got to know about it, she would do anything to avenge her family, and finish him, just like he did to her family in Kliphagrami in 1957. In other words, Priyanka would help him keep the Basus away as much as possible, as "another Basu got in his way" (we already know he wanted to take the place of Basus and his brother Devdas), and he would help her conceive.
Priyanka on the greed of having a child, made all sorts of arrangements, including warning Sana not to tell Amala shit.
However, Sana "disobeys" Priyanka and Aryan, and gives her info about Brahmins and other knowledge about Hinduism as she felt pity and compassion for her. In this situation, Amala is our "lost sheep" in Sana's view as she doesn't know anything about her own family and her own importance, but Sana knows. In S1E3, we see this prompt when we were discussing the vision at the hotel room with Sana in the hallway:
Tumblr media
The exact next night, the Chauhans take out Sana and arranges her wedding. She got matched for helping our "lost sheep". Her wedding was a plan to basically seperate her from Amala as soon as possible, so that Amala could not get information. That is why they rushed the marriage as soon as possible.
Oh, and Sana figured out their plans, and decides to warn Amala even immediately before her wedding.
On the day of her wedding, her groom Manu was killed by Devdas, as he got to know he touched his secret stash of books being a Shudra (lower caste) (the Doobay fam is a family of psychopaths).
How did he know that?
On S1E6, when Amala was sent downstairs forcefully from her bedroom by Priyanka, she made Sana search her room for the book of Mahanirvana Tantra. Sana knowing the location of book, gave away Amala. Priyanka now knew about the location of the book and handed it over to Devdas later. That is how Devdas got to know Manu touched his books. Now why did Sana give away Amala in this case? She was probably threatened by Priyanka.
On Sana's wedding day, Manu was murdered, making Sana a white widow (💎choice) or a Sati ritual victim (smh research about modern India by Remy.) This drifted Sana away from Amala more. Her main source of info was stopped.
Manu's death was a coincidence, and not a part of Vimal and Priyanka's plan. Devdas is just a psycho.
However, Amrit and Ratan twisted the circumstances to the point Amala eventually found out about her family, as well as her visions about the past. On the other hand, Kiran arrived. Priyanka gave this informative to Vimal as per the deal. When Vimal got to know about Amala's awareness, he finally sought on killing her and exchange Kiran's energy and soul for Priyanka's child. Probably the reason why Priyanka was so excited at the news of his arrival.
So back to point, our Sana is afraid that Kali will punish her for disobeying her masters and she feels like it is her punishment for helping the "lost sheep" that is Amala.

Venture Bros Time Frame
Based on the Venture Brothers Wiki Timeline and what I could find in the show during my final rewatch before the movie. Like when I calculated Gary’s age, this is not an opinion piece. I pull straight from the source material.
I am not starting from a specific year because we know Venture Bros references current pop culture based on the year each season was released. Various dates documented in the show fail to provide a cohesive timeline. Hence, my focus is on the time frame. I'll be keeping track by noting "Venture Bros Year _" when the series moves into the next year and by referencing years as "000(number of year)" while using dates. I suggest following along with your calendar open like I had to do while organizing this lol.
S1e11 Past Tense - Orpheus predicts that The Action Man will have a stroke in "2 years, 17 days."
Tumblr media
We will start pretty late into the first year, Venture Bros Year 1
S1e13 Are You There God, It's Me, Dean - Takes place in late September 0001.
The episode features Monarch's birthday, which is around late September 0001 when, according to him, "the leaves would be orange enough..." to build his Monarch wings.
The Monarch butterfly migration and the leaves turning can begin around late September in New Jersey.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
A Very Venture Christmas Special occurs on Christmas, December 25th, 0001, between season 1 and season 2.
While the entire episode was a dream, it was still revealed to be Christmas time. Sally is shown to be pregnant with Rocket. This is important because it solidifies that this episode specifically took place sometime between s1e7 Ice Station Impossible and s2e5 20 Years to Midnight.
Tumblr media
Venture Bros Year 2
S2e2 Hate Floats - The boys celebrate their 16th birthday.
Tumblr media
S2e5 20 Years to Midnight - This episode takes place May 4th, 0002, "...in Rusty's 44th year." In s1e8 Mid-life Chrysalis, he states his age is 43. Rusty must have turned 44 last month on April 30th, 0002. This means a little over 7 months have passed since s1e13. Rocket was born to Sally Impossible during that time.
This means the boys' birthday is between December 26th - May 3rd. I'm casting a wide net because, for all we know, the episodes in between could have happened just days apart from each other. They live chaotic lives.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
S2e11 ¡Viva los Muertos! - Rusty promises the boys will receive something better than their clones as Christmas gifts.
Tumblr media
S2e12&13 Showdown at Cremation Creek (Parts 1 and 2) - This episode spans a month between the Monarch's proposal and the wedding.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
S3e4 Home Is Where the Hate Is - The boys state that they are still 16 years old "going on 17". That phrase usually indicates a birthday is approaching, but we can't assume anything definitive. What this does tell us is that a full year has not gone by since s2e2 Hate Floats, assuming the boys didn't die again off-screen.
Tumblr media
S3e5 The Buddy System - Billy says he is 35. Based on s2e12&13 Showdown at Cremation Creek (Parts 1 and 2), we know that he is 35 at least a month after May 4th, 0002.
Tumblr media
Here's where it gets tricky
S3e8 Tears of a Sea Cow - Dean's newspaper is dated May 23rd. I will explore two possibilities.
Possibility 1
Even though I don't feel like the date on Dean's paper is strong evidence as it could be a secondhand thought made up by the animators or a reference to how each season seems to occur in the year it airs, the month of May would line up as the boys had previously told Hatred they were about to turn 17 years old four episodes prior, indicating a birthday was near. If we say we are already in Venture Bros Year 3 and believe the date in the newspaper to be May 23rd, 0003, the boys would already be 17 during this episode because we know their birthday is before May 4th. However...
S3e13 The Family That Slays Together, Stays Together Part 2 - Hank says "...open my Christmas gifts early...." referring to the clones they discovered in s2e11 ¡Viva los Muertos!. Indicating that December 25th, 0002 has not occurred yet.
Tumblr media
Possibility 2
What this could mean, other than an oversight, is that it was May 23rd, 0002. This would make the boys still 16 years old. And everything between s2e5 20 Years to Midnight and s3e8 Tears of a Sea Cow takes place all in one month... but that also doesn't work because s2e12&13 Showdown at Cremation Creek (Parts 1 and 2) spans about a month by itself and we see the Monarchs multiple times in various stages of their relationship throughout season 2.
Because acknowledging the date in the newspaper would not work either way, I feel that it's safe to disregard it completely based on the current information we have. I feel more confident in trusting the writing that came directly from Doc and Jackson rather than the animation.
S4e1 Blood of the Father, Heart of Steel - The Nazis give Rusty "8 months" to clone Hitler. During this time Hank grew out his hair, Brock got out of shape and back in shape, and Gary got dieseled. Somewhere during those 8 months, we moved on to…
Tumblr media
Venture Bros Year 3
S4e2 Handsome Ransom - Billy says he is 37. If Billy wasn't lying or rounding up, this means at least a year and a day have passed since s3e5 The Buddy System. The boys must be 17 at this point.
Tumblr media
S4e5 The Revenge Society - Documenting where this episode takes place for a later reference.
S4e10 Pomp and Circuitry - Brock tells Hank "...you also have to be 18" to dissuade him from joining SPHINX. Confirming that two whole years have not passed since s2e2 Hate Floats.
Tumblr media
S4e12 Everybody Comes to Hank's - Hank asks Dean "How was your summer?" hinting that they are approaching the middle to end of summer.
Tumblr media
S4e15 The Silent Partners -JJ is in space building Gargantua II. This is information for later reference.
S4e16 Operation: P.R.O.M. - In the commentary, Doc and Jackson use prom to symbolize the boy's unofficial 18th birthday, more specifically their ascent into adulthood. I did not take this to mean it was literally their 18th birthday. The latest their birthday can be is May 3rd and at this point, they are nearing the fall.
S5e1 What Color Is Your Cleansuit? - Takes place the day after P.R.O.M. and spans 3 months. A Very Venture Halloween special takes place in the middle of it on October 31st, 0003. We see Gary raking leaves - Fall. Then the compound is covered in snow - Winter. The weather here is intentional to show the passage of time. It is unclear at this point if we have moved on to the next year. There is no mention of Christmas or New Year's. By the end of the episode, it could be as early as November 0003.
Tumblr media
At this point, we are over 2 years and at least 1 month into the series. We started in September 0001 in s1e13 Are You There God, It's Me, Dean and are now sometime past October 31st, 0003. I am keeping in mind Orpheus' prediction of "2 years and 17 days". In the commentary Doc and Jackson state that the Action Man could have considered his health since the prediction which resulted in delaying his stroke.
S5e3 SPHINX Rising - Gary says "Hank is an adult." I took this to mean he had turned 18 at some point. While their birthday may be at the end of December because we had cast a wide net for them earlier, I will assume we’ve moved on to…
Tumblr media
Venture Bros Year 4
Here’s where it gets tricky part 2
S5e4 Spanakopita! - This episode should take place in October. Team Venture attended the wedding of Aristotle Onassis and Jackie Kennedy which took place on October 20th, 1968. Another historical event mentioned was the Apollo 7 mission, which took place Oct 11, 1968 – Oct 22, 1968. In the flashback we see Spanakopita aligning with the Splashdown date, October 22, 1968. This is evidence that the dates are intentional.
In this episode we see Hank in his strength suit, confirming that Spanakopita takes place after s5e1 What Color Is Your Cleansuit? and A Very Venture Halloween special. I feel it's unlikely that they intended for a full year to have passed between s5e1 What Color Is Your Cleansuit? and s5e4 Spanakopita!. I want to make this as accurate as possible so I'm going to entertain two possibilities.
Possibility 1
If we say that s5e4 Spanakopita! was not intended to take place in October specifically and it was an oversight, then I feel safe to assume the warm weather we see after s5e1 What Color Is Your Cleansuit? indicates that we've moved onto spring or summer, still in Venture Bros Year 4.
S5e5 O.S.I. Love You - Hank’s limbs atrophied from wearing the strength suit he found in S5e3 SPHINX Rising for “weeks”.
Tumblr media
S5e6 Momma's Boys - Hank tells Dermott “Last year…” and references the events of s4e5 The Revenge Society which took place in Venture Bros Year 3.
Tumblr media
S5e7 Bot Seeks Bot - This episode takes place in July 0004. We see a flashback in S7e3 Arrears in Science which took place the night before Thanksgiving, November 0004.
Tumblr media
S5e8 The Devil's Grip - Dean says a third of his age is 6 - indicating he is probably 18.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
All This and Gargantua-2 - Monarch says Rusty “hasn’t paid his electric bill since June.” We know we are in July or August because s5e7 Bot Seeks Bot takes place in July 0004.
Season 6 starts in Venture Bros Year 4, August or September 0004 because we know Dean had applied and enrolled in the Fall Semester. The boys would be 18 years old—3 years since s1e13 Are You There God, It's Me, Dean.
Tumblr media
S6e1 Hostile Makeover - Hatred says he's "been waiting to do that (hit Gary) for weeks”, assuming he is referring to the last time he saw Gary in either s5e8 The Devil's Grip.
S6e4 Rapacity in Blue - Takes place on October 7th, 0004. The timestamps are in the top right corner of the security camera videos.
Tumblr media
S6e5 Tanks for Nuthin’ - Takes place on October 8th, 0004 the morning after s6e4 Rapacity in Blue.
S7e1 The Venture Bros. & The Curse of the Haunted Problem - This episode takes place the in the days leading up to Thanksgiving, November 0004. We flashback 2 years ago to JJ discovering the Gargantua crash. This implies JJ made this discovery sometime in Venture Bros Year 2.
Tumblr media
According to The Art and Making of the Venture Bros. - Rocket is 3 or 4 years old now.
Tumblr media
Next, we have a clear time span thanks to s7e3 Arrears in Science. It's Thanksgiving, November 0004. 3 years and 2 months since s1e13 Are You There God, It's Me, Dean.
Tumblr media
Time jump to the start of the Spring Semester in s7e4 The High Cost of Loathing, which starts in Venture Bros Year 5, January 0005.
S7e4 High Cost of Loathing - There is a "two months later" time jump at the beginning of the episode.
We are still in Winter Venture Bros Year 5 as of the final episode. In total making the time span from s1e13 Are You There God, It's Me, Dean to s7e10 The Saphrax Protocol 3 years and at least 4 months.
Possibility 2
If we do say it has been another year and s5e4 Spanakopita! takes place in Venture Bros Year 4, October 0004, which means almost everything is pushed back a year. The boys would be 18 years old.
S5e5 O.S.I. Love You - Hank’s limbs atrophied from wearing the strength suit he found in S5e3 for “weeks”.
S5e6 Momma's Boys - Hank tells Dermott “Last year…” and references the events of s4e5 The Revenge Society which took place in Venture Bros Year 3. That would mean this episode would need to take place between October 23rd, 0004 and December 31st, 0004.
Venture Bros Year 5
S5e7 Bot Seeks Bot - This episode takes place in July 0005. We see a flashback in S7e3 Arrears in Science which took place the night before Thanksgiving, November 0005.
S5e8 The Devil's Grip - Dean says a third of his age is 6 - Dean must be 19 at this point and have rounded 6 years and 3 months down to just 6.
All This and Gargantua-2 - Monarch says Rusty “hasn’t paid his electric bill since June.” We know we are in July or August because s5e7 Bot Seeks Bot takes place in July 0005.
Season 6 starts in August or September 0005, because we know Dean had applied and enrolled in the Fall Semester. At this point, the boys would have to be 19 years old. - 4 years since s1e13 Are You There God, It's Me, Dean. Overshooting the 2 years and 17 days prediction by a lot.
S6e1 Hostile Makeover - Hatred says he's "been waiting to do that (hit Gary) for weeks”, assuming he is referring to the last time he saw Gary in either s5e8 The Devil's Grip.
S6e4 Rapacity in Blue - Takes place on October 7th, 0005.
S6e5 Tanks for Nuthin’ - Takes place on October 8th, 0005 the morning after s6e4 Rapacity in Blue.
S7e1 The Venture Bros. & The Curse of the Haunted Problem - This episode takes place the in the days leading up to Thanksgiving, November 0005. We flashback 2 years ago to JJ discovering the Gargantua crash. This implies JJ made the discovery sometime in Venture Bros Year 3 before S4e15 The Silent Partners.
According to The Art and Making of the Venture Bros. - Rocket is 3 or 4 years old now.
Again, we have a clear time span thanks to s7e3 Arrears in Science. It's Thanksgiving, November 0005. 4 years and 2 months since s1e13 Are You There God, It's Me, Dean.
Finally, we have the time jump to the start of the Spring Semester in s7e4 The High Cost of Loathing, which would start in Venture Bros Year 6, January 0006.
S7e4 High Cost of Loathing - There is a "two months later" time jump at the beginning of the episode.
We are still in Winter 0006 as of the final episode. Making the time span in this possibility, from s1e13 Are You There God, It's Me, Dean to s7e10 The Saphrax Protocol, 4 years and at least 4 months.
NOTES AND THOUGHTS
S1e1 Dia de los Dangerous - Presumably this episode takes place on Dia los Muertos, November 1st. Monarch states that he's in Mexico to find his foster parents. Butterflies arrive in Mexico around early November. Because this happened before Orpheus' prediction, it could be plausible that there is almost a year between the first episode and s1e13 Are You There God, It's Me, Dean. It is probably just as likely that Doc and Jackson were not considering keeping to a set time frame until much later in the series.
JJ did not appear in the season 1 Christmas Special. The boys are alive. Rusty was not on his journey running away from the boys' deaths. I wonder if this means s1e13 Return to Spider-Skull Island took place after Christmas. I am also not considering the weather as a determining factor here because I remember hearing about issues with animating different backgrounds in the earlier seasons.
If it helps, I placed the boy’s birthday on the Ides of March (March 15th) to help me keep track of things. It’s both a significant historical date and a 70’s rock band. Plus I wanted them to be Pisces :)
I also stuck the Monarch's birthday on September 30th because that's when Don became Venturion. I think it's poetic.
Tumblr media
Doc and Jackson are phenomenal writers and I’m sure if they were to address this in the show they would find a way for it to make sense that we would all enjoy. I had a lot of fun doing this. I love digging deep into my favorite show and piecing together what I find 💛 Go Team Venture!

OFMD Meta Series Master Thread
My brain works in meta series for some reason, and a couple of my individual metas have been really popular! So in case you're looking for more of my stuff, or to read a meta related to one you already liked, here're my series. I'll update them as I go.
Metas about Stories and Storytelling in OFMD
Do we just keep telling the same story forever? Meta on OFMD S1E7 "This is Happening"
(Note: writing this while on a holiday, there'll be more metas in this series once I get home and go through drafts ;) )
The Fuckery's the Thing: Finding truth through lies in "The Art of Fuckery"
True Stories, False Stories: "The Best Revenge is Dressing Well"
Stories within Stories (within more stories!): OFMD Meta Analysis of Ep 1 E4
Stede Bonnet's Stories (S2)
Ed Teach's Stories
Stede Bonnet's Stories (S1)
Storytelling in Our Flag Means Death
Character Analysis Question Metas
Why was finding Stede's letter so important for Ed?
Why did Ed think becoming a fisherman made any sense at all?
Why did Ed throw away his leathers?
Why did Ed want to "take it slow"?
Why didn't Izzy shoot Ed (then)?
Why did Ed headbutt Stede?
Why didn't Ed always protect Stede?
How did Stede leave pirating so easily?
Did Ed really want to die?
How did Stede know that Ed wanted to "watch the world burn"?
Why did Ed shoot Izzy then?
Spiral Parallels: The second season of OFMD references the first a lot, generally in ways that add a lot to the emotional depth of an original scene. Here's a heap of metas about that because I think it's cool.

One Dress a Day Challenge
June: Weddings
Leverage (s1e7, "The Wedding Job") / Beth Riesgraf as Parker, plus Lindsay Halladay as Maid of Honor
I really have to hand it to the Leverage costume team--they are positive geniuses at coming up with a truly terrible costume when the situation calls for it (here's another fine example of their work). This bridesmaid dress would be bad enough if it had just been overly ruched, shiny, and pink--but whoever decided to sprinkle it with blue roses deserves an Emmy. And just when you think it can't get worse, there are the gloves! Which appear to have some sort of frilly garter holding them on, because you can see in one picture that Parker is starting to pull the glove off, but there's still a band further up her forearm. Add blue open-toed shoes and a silly little tiara for the crowning (pun intended) touch.
The dress zips up the back and then a panel snaps over the fastening to hide it. I've included a shot of the back fastening for reference.
Also, for comparison and to prove that the dress really looks good on no one, here it is on Lindsay Halliday as the Maid of Honor from the same episode:

I was arguing with a Charmed (2018) fan the other day who tried to claim that the reboot "explored more different types of magic than the OG did".
Sorry, but that claim is untrue, even if you stick to comparing all four seasons of the 2018 reboot with the first four seasons of the original 1998 Charmed.
Just by comparing the first season of each show:
Charmed (1998)
s1e2 "I've Got You Under My Skin" has the Charmed Ones use the Hand of Fatima to vanquish Javna. The Prophet Mohammed (that Mohammed, from Islam) is explicitly referenced in the Book of Shadows, and the Hand of Fatima is used throughout North Africa and the Middle East as protection against evil.
s1e4 "Dead Man Dating" primarily takes place in San Franciso's Chinatown, and the supernatural antagonist is Yama, the Hindu god of death. The mortal antagonists are all members of a Triad gang. Three other episodes later on in the series focus on Chinese mythology.
s1e6 "The Wedding From Hell": demonic villainess Jade de Mon turns out to be Hecate, named after the Greek goddess of magic, the moon, and crossroads.
s1e7 "The Fourth Sister": Kali, the antagonist, is named after the Hindu goddess of death, doomsday, and time.
s1e11 "Feats of Clay" centers around a stolen Egyptian urn and heavily features Egyptian mythology motifs
s1e18 "When Bad Warlocks Go/Turn Good": not the first time Christianity has shown up in the series, but it is the first time the sisters have to save a half-warlock Catholic priest-in-training
Charmed (2018)
s1e1 "Pilot": the triqutra symbol representing the Veras' status as the Charmed Ones has its roots in Celtic (Irish) culture. Books of Shadows are solely used in Wicca, a British religious form of witchcraft. The Veras' BOS even has an entry on Melinda Warren. (Keep in mind that the Vera-Vaughns in this series are supposed to be Puerto Rican, and instead of going with the rich traditions and history of Latin American witchcraft, the producers and writers shoved their Latina witches into a Wiccan framework.)
s1e2 "Let This Mother Out": Spirit boards as they exist today are an American invention. (The Halliwells also had a spirit board that was passed down through their family, but that one did look like a family heirloom, not like it had been bought at Barnes & Noble a few years prior.) Marisol also created the prism world they trapped the Imposter Demon in, so no points there
s1e4 "Exorcise Your Demons": Mel finds a secret spell written by their mother in the B.O. S derived from Santeria that the sisters use to free Angela Wu.
s1e5 "Other Women": Introduces "hellflame", suspiciously similar to Greek fire. The spell Mel and her sisters cast to rewrite her history with Niko invokes the Moirai, the Greek goddesses of fate.
s1e6 "Kappa Spirit": Maggie and Mel briefly suspect that the ghost Brenda is a Banshee, a malevolent spirit from Irish folklore. Mama Roz, a recurring Haitian Yoruba priestess and psychic, is introduced (this kicks off Macy and Galvin's continuing subplot throughout the season exploring Yoruba).
s1e7 "Out of Scythe": Introduces the Scythe of Tartarus and a satyr as a guardian for one of the scythe's pieces, all of which are taken from Greek mythology.
s1e9 "Jingle Hell": episode begins with Hunter and Parker stealing a staff from a Russian Orthodox church, bringing Christianity into play. The episode ends with Harry falling down into Tartarus (again, Greek mythology).
s1e11 "Witch Perfect": music instructor at Hilltowne University (and director for the Hilltones a capella group) is taken over by a set of demonic pan's pipes while on vacation in Greece (once more, Greek mythology)
s1e13 "Maniac Pixie Nightmare": introduces pixies from Central European mythology
s1e15 "Switches and Stones": has Medusa the gorgon as the villain of the week, famously from Greek mythology
s1e18 "The Replacement": new Whitelighter Tessa makes reference to "Western magic" when fighting the Abiku (from Yoruban mythology) that is possessing Galvin
That's *checks notes* seven cultures the original series explores outside of British Traditional Wicca within its first season. The same cannot be said for the 2018 reboot's first season, where the only cultures drawn from are Central/Northern European, Greek, and Yoruba. Santeria (an Afro-Cuban religion) is mentioned once, and the denomination of Christianity shows in-series is very white European. So... yeah, that's three cultures for the reboot compared to the original's seven.
As for the rest of both series over the course of the respective shows:
Charmed (1998)
s2e6 "That Old Black Magic" features the Seventh Son of a Seventh Son, which shows up in folklore across the world
s2e7 "They're Everywhere" deals with the Akashic Records, believed by Theosophists to be a compendium of all universal events, thoughts, words, emotions, and intent ever to have occurred in the past, present, or future in terms of all entities and life forms. (There is no evidence the records actually exist, and the religion of Theosophy was founded by a Russian mystic in the late 19th century, but the word akashic itself is from Sanskrit.)
s2e21 "Apocalypse Not" deals with the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse
s2e22 "Be Careful What You Witch For" introduces genies from Arabian mythology (Genies show up again in season 6)
s3e13 "The Good, the Bad, and the Cursed" touches on racism against Native Americans (via residual energy in a ghost town causing a time loop and Phoebe psychically connecting with Bo Lightfeather, the victim in question)
s4e5 "Size Matters" features a golem, which are from Jewish folklore
season 5 really starts in on expanding the magical community to include nymphs, unicorns, leprechauns, dwarves, mermaids, etc. Season 6 introduces a student at Magic School who's a Shaman, a different species from magical witches (s6e14 "The Legend of Sleepy Halliwell").
s5e6 "The Eyes Have It" introduces and heavily features Romani with magical abilities as a sister species to witches. Specifically, it focuses on a young Roma woman who becomes the matriarch of her family line, has snippets of the Romani language (or one of its many dialects) spoken on-screen, and has Ava grappling with rejecting vs returning to her heritage.
s5e10 "Y Tu Mummy También" again centers on Egyptian mythology
s5e13 "House Call" features a witch doctor who uses voodoo. Witch Doctors are explicitly stated to be on the side of good and good magic, and the one in the episode uses his magic to teach the Charmed Ones a much-needed lesson.
s6e1-2 "Valhalley of the Dolls" transforms the sisters into Valkyries from Norse mythology to rescue Leo from Valhalla (which for some reason is presided over by Freyja, when she's actually in charge of a different area of the Norse afterlife).
s7e1 "A Call to Arms" has Piper and Leo accidentally taken over by Hindu deities Shakti and Shiva (they were attending a Hindu wedding as guests when the deities were invoked to bless the marriage).
The Avatars, the antagonists of season 7's first half, have part of their backstory rooted in ancient Egypt: they were defeated by Anubis, the Egyptian god of death and rebirth.
Charmed (2018)
season 2 draws heavily from the Salem and European Witch Trials for its worldbuilding and backstory for characters: recurring character Jordan's ancestor was a Witchfinder General whose bloodline was cursed by a witch he killed; Whitelighters (and their Darklighter counterparts) are discovered to have first been created as a result of the Salem Witch Trials. The castle where the rite to create new White/Darklighters is held is located in Scotland.
season 3 made shit up whole cloth for its antagonists without drawing on one particular culture, but it finally introduces Puerto Rican witchcraft in the form of the Veras' second cousin Josefina (which is promptly forgotten about the second she's finished her plotline)
season 4 reveals that this universe's "original" Charmed Ones were unrelated brown women granted their magic by the nine clans of magical beings (trolls, leprechauns, hobgoblins, lamias, pixies, etc.) -- all of whom are, again, originally from European folklore.
"The reboot explored more types of magic than the original series did."
Bullshit. It very much the fuck did not. The writers kept cycling through Greek, Irish & British, Yoruba and Central European folklore for their worldbuilding and only gave Puerto Rican culture an afterthought. Which is not a good look when the protagonists being Latina (specifically, Puerto Rican) was the fucking selling point for this reboot in the first place.

My Ted Lasso Re-watch: S1E7 (part 2)
Make Rebecca Great Again
Keeley comes to Rebecca's aide during her struggles with hugs and the idea of wicked sex with a new best friend. Seriously, if people did not know that Keeley was bi before she got with Jack, then they weren't watching close enough. I knew when she complimented Rebecca on her topless photos.
Nate's run down of what they players should no do really makes me question what shit they usually get up to on away trips.
The team do eventually have a pillow fight, in Amsterdam. And it's wonderful. Shame Ted wasn't there to see it.
Rebecca not realising she is talking to TV Keeley who is advertising Liverpool. Do hotel ads like this exist? I don't spend a lot of time in hotels so I don't know. And how many did she do because it appears in Amsterdam too, or do they just use the one video and record several voice overs for it?
I love that Keeley and Sassy instantly become friends when they meet. It's good to see female friendships that don't deal with jealousy. They are both there to support Rebecca during her first wedding anniversary after her divorce, and that becomes their shared goal.
Rebecca knows things should be better between her and Sassy. 6 years is a long time to go without seeing someone you care about, especially if there's a child involved.
I will admit, I have not see The Iron Giant all the way through. I know the ending is sad.
Ted asks Nate to help come up with ideas to motivate the team, and to Nate's credit he does come up with something. Right now he's just too nervous to say his idea because he doesn't think it would work. His fear of what will happen if he tell Ted does sort of happen, but it's more of a case of bad timing with Ted's personal life crashing down around him. It's not Nate's fault it happens, just wrong place, wrong time.
Seriously Michelle? Your soon-to-be-ex-husband is currently working.. She really pushes for the divorce hard in this episode. I get it needs to be done, but give the man a chance. This is hard for him to let go of the woman he loves and the marriage he had been a part of for so long. It might have been easier for her because she was ready to divorce him, but that doesn't mean he feels the same.
Ted knows exactly when the saddest part of the film happens. He has seen it many times by himself and with Henry. Beard is not afraid to cry during the film.

🎙 S1E7 / Charles Jodoin-Keaton, scripte 🎙

The numbers are off here again, but in light of that video of the S1E8 recap floating around on Twitter where Condal says that Lucerys was 17 when Aemond murdered him, reminder:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
When we get to S1E3, 3 years passed. It is 115 A.C. in S1E3; episodes 4 & 5 are mere months after the events of episode 3. S1E6 tells us that 10 years since then have passed.
Aemond didn't exist yet by S1E5, and Helaena is still an infant, months old (she didn't exist in S1E3, Alicent was still pregnant with her).
Rhaenyra had none of her boys by S1E5. We can only assume Jace was supposed to have been born a year or so after her marriage to Laenor, after the wedding in S1E5.
So in S1E6--when 10 years went by--Jace has to be 9-10 and in S1E8-10, he's 15-16...
Which means Luke has to be, AT MOST, 8-9 in both S1E6 & S1E7. (Because we have to give the grace of 9 months of pregnancy with Luke right after whenever Rhaenyra birthed Jace, and women can get immediately pregnant after having already birthed.)
In S1E8, Rhaenys says 6 years passed. And only a few months have passed between episodes 8-10. Luke dies in episode 10, so he can only be, AT MOST, 15. but Rhaenyra says he's 14 in S1E10, which is acceptable and goes nicely with what we know about how time has passed so far.
Luke: I can't be Lord of the Tides. Grandsire was the greatest sailor who ever lived. I get greensick before the ship even leaves the harbor. I'll just ruin everything. I don't want Driftmark. It should've passed on to Ser Vaemond. Rhaenyra: We don't choose our destiny, Luke. It chooses us. Luke: Grandsire let you choose whether you'd be his heir. You told us so. Rhaenyra: And do you want to know the truth of it? I was frightened. I was four-and-ten. Same as you are now. I wasn't ready to be Queen of the Seven Kingdoms.
Meanwhile, bec Aemond didn't exist in S1E5, he must be, AT MOST, 10 years old in S1E6 &E7; 16 in S1E8-E10. (Reminder, this is because the writers aged down Alicent.)
Ryan Condal is wrong or he's lying to try to make Aemond less hated or to alleviate the fallout against his messed up timeline. Willing to back track on his own ages and math's existence. Lucerys was 2 years away from legal adulthood; Aemond was a fresh adult; doesn't make it any less a murder. Nor does it make aging Alicent down any worse a choice or so obvious that you've thrown out consistency for your own project and/or lied about it to save face.
Your math is not mathing, how can Aemond be twelve in ep 6 when he wasn't born before the time skip of ten years? The next time skip is about six years so Aemond in the show is younger than his book counterpart. Another proof is Aegon's words that his father didn't name him heir in twenty years meaning he is in fact twenty meaning Helaena is 18 as she was born two years later and Aemond is about 17.
You reminded me to check and confirm what you say. In this WinterisComing post, it is said that Ryan says, “Young Joffrey is around 6 or 7. As for the other kids, showrunner Ryan Condal says they’re all in “the 17-21 age range.” As if that helps things at all.... In this Elle article, we see the writer themselves not really knowing what’s happening. So I had to buckle up and do some....math (dun, dund\, dun).
By episode 2, we hear Viserys say that Rhaenyra is 15 and in the very beginning -- with a black screen -- we find out that the show’s events occur 172 years before 284 A.C. when Daenerys was canonically born.
So we are supposed to be in 112 A.C when Viserys is hosting a tourney for his soon-to-arrive son Baelon. Rhaenyra is still 15, but Alicent’s been aged down to match her (when she would have been already married to Viserys I for 6 years by then [in canon, they marry at 106 A.C., when Alicent is 18 and Viserys is 29/30]).
These are the Book Ages at 112 A.C.:
Rhaenyra - 15
Alicent - 24
Viserys I - 35
Daemon - 31
Criston - 31
Laena - 20
Laenor - 18
Rhaenys - 38
Corlys - 59
Otto - 36
And the Book Ages at 131 A.C. (end of the Dance):
Rhaenyra - 33*
Viserys I - 52* (age by death)
Alicent - 42/43
Daemon - 49*
Criston - 49*
Otto - 55
Laena - 27*
Laenor - 26*
Rhaenys - 55*
Corlys - 78
Baela - 15
Rhaena - 15
Aegon (II) - 24
Helaena - 21*
Aemond - 20*
Daeron - 16*
Jacaerys - 16*
Lucerys - 14*
Joffrey - 13*
Aegon (III) - 10
Viserys (II) - 8
The Show Ages at 111-2 A.C. for everyone is the same as canon except Alicent, who is 15. She and Show!Viserys marry episode 2, where Rhaenyra and Alicent are still 15.
Three years pass after episode 2 and Alicent is heavily pregnant with Helaena and has already had Aegon the Elder, who Viserys says is 2 years old.
Since Alicent is aged down 9 years, her children are aged back.
So by episode 3/115 A.C., the Ages are:
Rhaenyra - 18
Alicent - 18
Viserys I - 38
Daemon - 34
Criston - 34
Laena - 23
Laenor - 21
Otto - 39
Rhaenys - 41
Corlys - 62
Aegon (II) - 2
It’s only a few months to episode 4. Helena is an infant, Aegon is maybe still 2 or he’s 3 in episode 5. None of the Velaryon boys exist yet.
Episode 5 passes straight after the events of episode 4, so the things of episodes 4 and 5 all happen in under a year.
However, canonically by 115 A.C, Aegon the Elder is 8; Helaena is supposed to be 6, and Aemond is 5, and Daeron is supposed to be around 1.
Jacaerys is supposed to already exist and is 1 here not long after the events of episode 5.
By episode 6, 10 years pass and it is 125 A.C.
Laena and Laenor are both supposed to be dead by 120.
The Ages in 125 A.C./episode 6 are:
Rhaenyra - 28
Alicent - 28
Viserys I - 48
Daemon - 44
Criston - 44
Otto - 49
Rhaenys - 59
Corlys - 72
Aegon (II) - 13
Helaena - 12
Aemond - 8/9 (nothing is given, we just have to go by canon-inspired subtraction/adjustment)
Daeron - 4/5 (???!!! and he’s supposedly in Oldtown at that age?!)
Jacaerys - 6-10 (we’re not given a specific bday in the show)
Lucerys - 5-9  (we’re not given a specific bday in the show)
Joffrey - 0 (freshly born)
Rhaenys says she last saw Corlys 6 years ago in episode 8. The Ages in 131 A.C./episodes 8 - 10 are:
Rhaenyra - 34
Alicent - 34
Viserys I - 54
Daemon - 50
Criston - 50
Otto - 55
Rhaenys - 65
Corlys - 78
Aegon (II) - 19
Helaena - 18
Aemond - 14/15
Daeron - 10/11 (he’s still supposedly in Oldtown?!)
Jacaerys - 12-16  (we’re not given a specific bday in the show)
Lucerys - 11-15  (we’re not given a specific bday in the show)
Joffrey - 6
Aegon (III) - ~ 2
Viserys (II) - ~ 1
Again, since Ryan Condal and the other writers changed the age for Alicent and basically moved everything forward, this is the result of what the ages were. I used the canon ages and calculated when I could. Let me know of anything to consider changing.
